Speaker 3 (00:00):
All right.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Well, joining me on the line is our good friend
from the Corktown Popes and of course now doing the
holiday rochestra. It's Terry Burns. Terry, how the heck have
you been, buddy, Doc.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
I've been great. Good to hear from you.

Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hey, it's good to hear from you too, and congratulations.
You got another big holiday show coming up on Thursday,
December nineteenth over at the Magic Bag and boy, if
it's anything like any of the others, I know it's
going to be a good one.

Speaker 2 (00:30):
So tell us a little bit about this one.

Speaker 3 (00:32):
Well, we had a show up north and that went
down tackularly, so I'm really enthused about the Magic Bag show.
You know what a great venue it is, and we've
got a great night plans to raise money for Delenance
Food Bag, so we compete some people in need the
holiday season, which easy a nice one feeling knowing that
you're making some good happening in the world. There's a

(00:56):
handful of VIP tickets left and I stress that just
a handful. And with the VIP tickets you get a
meet and greet. Everyone gets a free holiday mixer cd uh.
It's a mix and mingle We've got a little jazz
combo playing live in the background during this and everyone
gets some Italian food, so it'll be a good time.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
A little early VIP party at the Magic Big.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
Yes, sir, So you get to run till seven, You.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Get to get in there early.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
Now you're collecting what cash? But no food donations for gleaners.
Just money, is that.

Speaker 3 (01:32):
Right, judge? Yeah? Just cash. We'll have donation cans there
and of the profits will go towards gleaners. Jim Haler
and I from Soul Hustler, we will be contributing our
performance and our organization for the event, and so everyone
should know that we're not going to see a penny
from it if we feel that if people are going

(01:54):
to lay down their cash to help people in need,
Jim and I should do the same. So we're doing
this for just because it's righting to do.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Well. Yeah, that's awesome. Yeah, who's all in the band
this year, Terry.

Speaker 3 (02:07):
Well, we've got Takashi Eel on bass. We've got Brandon
Huskin from Bray on drums. We've got Jimmy smanth and
Not Martinez and Johnny Evans horn section. Let's see, we've
got David James on guitar and my music director Duncan
W mcnillan on keyboards.

Speaker 2 (02:28):
Johnny Evans.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
I was just with Johnny not too long ago here
a couple of weeks ago, he was doing another benefit
and I happened to be at it as the MC.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
It was over at Freddy's on the East Side.

Speaker 3 (02:41):
So yeah, yeah, I saw your posts about that. Looked
like a great.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
Event at Johnny.

Speaker 1 (02:46):
You guys, well, all the musicians in Detroit have always
stepped up to help out, especially during the holidays. But Terrence,
you've done an incredible job. How many years now have
you been doing this?

Speaker 3 (03:00):
I started the project in twenty twenty just before the
world shut down. Yeah, we released the CD in twenty
twenty one, and so for the past three years we've
we've been working our holiday magic, trying to make people happy,
and finally we get to do a big holiday benefit
and that's a trill for me. It's a great cause

(03:22):
and really looking forward to hopefully selling the theater out.
We're about two thirds of the way there. So if
anyone needs a great date night and celebrate a little jazz,
rock and swim holiday tunes, even have a great time,
I guarantee it.

Speaker 1 (03:38):
I love the name of the well. The theme for
the show a Christmas cocktail that is. Yeah, that's a
good one, no doubt about it. Will you still have
your Christmas CDs available for sale that night?

Speaker 3 (03:55):
I've got maybe fifty left, so yeah, they'll be all
be a little for sale at the thing. I'll have
another merchan start too, But like I said, the VIPs
will least get a pre CD with their tickets.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Tell me about the music that you're going to be doing, Terrence,
I mean, is it all Christmas music? Are you throwing
in some of your original holiday songs? What can we
expect when we come into the Magic.

Speaker 3 (04:22):
Okay, what you can expect is after the mix and
mingle to seven pm, Soul Hustler will hit the stage
and they play a mixture of rock, pop, soul and funk.
So I've that's cover tunes for them. That's Jim Hedler
formerly The Civilians, Jake Smith for Brothers of Another Planet,
James Sparks, Jenny Molina, and Gordon Jazzabey Spencer. So that's

(04:48):
that's gonna be a little more on the new music side,
and then we'll get the stage probably around eight thirty,
and we'll do our Christmas Standards sounds of holiday mixtures
the CD. I'll of course do my original Christmas Cocktail,
and also we'll be playing some Louis Armstrong holiday songs,

(05:13):
you know, rocking around the Christmas Tree or dingle bell rock,
blue Christmas good stuff.

Speaker 1 (05:20):
You know, I've been listening to more Christmas music this year,
maybe than ever before. I don't know why, but I
did get into the Christmas spirit early. So we do
invite people to get out there and enjoy it. And
I've seen the show several times and I know just just.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
How great it is.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
So you know, when people come walking out of there,
they are going to be you know, they're going to
have the Christmas spirit, no question about it.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
They're gonna feel great. They're gonna feel great. I can't
believe all these guys are right here in Detroit. It's
you know, I'm sung here.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
They are the best, and I mean it's awesome that
you've you know, compiled some of the best of the
best to always you know, perform with you. Now, you
mentioned you did a show a couple of weeks ago.
Where was that at and how did it do it?
Apparently it did pretty well. Huh.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
Yeah. We had a full house even with the snowstorm.
We were lucky. The snowstorm stopped in Gaylor and we
were half an hour south in grayling up seventy two
at Tinker Junction and full house. Everyone was having a
great time. It was like a mid century modern toptail
party taken to a small town and everyone was again

(06:37):
I have to say this again, everyone was raving at
the quality of musicianship that was up on stage. You know,
I feel lining that wek linked in this band.

Speaker 1 (06:47):
No never, never the singer. Never the singer. You've really
put this thing together. I mean, it is a nice package.
It's a really cool concept, and people in Detroit absolutely
love it. And I know that anybody going out there
for the first time is really going to love this
holiday rochestra. It's with Terry Burns and his merry men

(07:13):
of incredible musicians Thursday, December nineteenth at the Magic Bag.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
And once again, tell everybody about the.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
VIP tickets because I know that's a that's a that's
a special added bonus.

Speaker 3 (07:26):
It is a special added bonus because you know you'll
be able to walk around, talk to me, talk to
the band will we'll chat and it's going to be
I've got friends driving up from Ohio, repeat, driving up
from Ohio to see the Holiday Rochestra again. So that's
dedication in my book name and very much appreciate it.
But the VIFP tickets are forty dollars each. For that,

(07:50):
you get a pre CD, you get the next team angle,
you get some Italia food, and you get to feel
great and just be Tom. It's like having a Christmas
party for anyone you want to bring with you and
having no stress of setting it up and no stress
of cleaning up afterwards.

Speaker 2 (08:14):
That's the best gift of all.

Speaker 3 (08:16):

Speaker 1 (08:17):
