The first three Twilight soundtracks seemingly found the sweet spot. But as we enter the final two films, it’s clear that the saga is at its peak commercial success, which pushes the producers to find hitmakers like Bruno Mars and Christina Perri for the Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 soundtrack singles.

While Mars and Perri have some of the most iconic songs of the entire saga, we question whether or not the producers can blend these pop songs with the usual angsty rock we expect from Twilight and whether or not all of the love songs on Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 are enough for our emo hearts.

Yeah, because it's the dude's voice. It's like he's trying to like I
literally were dumb. I like thecool guy voice in addition to the cowbell
in the background. Super great.I know what you are. It's why
hearts in recovery and recovery. Seeyou. I simply cannot look at an
apple the same way anymore. Seeyou. My light just had such a

(00:23):
grip on so many people. Seeyou. See that's why Hard Recovery Club
podcasts. And if you ever leaveme, baby, leave some morphine at
my door, because it would takea whole lot of medication to realize what
we used to have. We don'thave it anymore. There's no religion that

(00:46):
could save me, no matter howlong my knees are on the floor.
Oh so keep in mind all thesacrifices I'm making to keep you by my
side, to keep you from walkingout that door. Good stuff. Hey,
welcome back to say it out loudthe Towy Heart Recovery Club podcast.
My name is Jenna from Z oneoh four and my name is Alissa.

(01:08):
I edit the news. Okay,it's been two months, I don't know,
but it's been shorter than Yeah,we have the Pist. We're on
next month. We said we doevery month. I think we're at the
point where we're doing every other month, and I think we're going to stick
to that. We can't space itout any longer. That's pretty bad,
and I think for us it works. It works. We're not forcing it,

(01:32):
but we're also not neglecting it.Yeah, it's fine. What's happened
since we last talked? Hey,So we went to a Paramore concert the
other day, like literally earlier thisweek. It was very fun and guess
what she played. It was tocode and if you want to see a
video of it, a really shaky, bad video, it's on our Twitter

(01:56):
at Say It Out Loud pod Andit was It was very fun because on
the screen behind the stage they hadlike the Twilight text, so I think
it was just times New I think, yeah, but it was close enough.
It was very reminiscent of that trailerin the movie. And they didn't
like make it all about Twilight becauseobviously it's still just a Paramore song,

(02:16):
but it was about twice. Imean, I felt stupid about it later,
but we saw a girl walking outwith the Twilight shirt on, and
I was like, damn it,that's a good idea. Why didn't I
do that? So he went somebodyto lose some But we did see Deco
live. We went a little bitbonkers over it. We went to Bonnie
Verre last night. We did notsee Rosalind live. No next time,

(02:38):
maybe probably not. Okay, Ithink that's it maybe for now. So
let's get into it. We're doinganother soundtracked episode soundtrack episode today, and
our question is did the soundtracks falloff with Breaking Dawn Part one? I
like how we kind of we kindof make the questions a little point at

(02:59):
these days, right, not roomfor misinterpretation. I don't think we can
talk around it. I think thereare some questionable things happening come twenty eleven.
Okay, So to start, Idon't want to talk too much about
your initial thoughts because otherwise then we'rejust going to get into it. So
in one word, I would likeyou to describe your listening experience with this,

(03:21):
I would say like confusing or unexpectedsort of No, I would I
would say non cohesive. Yeah,I think my word is jarring. Okay,
So we're in the same place,So let's talk about a little bit
of some facts about the thing. It was released on November eight, twenty

(03:42):
eleven, so we're in the tensnow, which is exciting because a lot
of like I think indie pop wasin the main genre kind of coming out
of the zeke. A lot ofclub stuffs too, But you know,
same music producer as the last three, so same guy doing all of them.
It overall got a Metacritic score ofsixty three. All Music gave it
a three point five stars out offive, LA Times gave it two stars
out of five, and IGN gaveit a seven point five out of ten.

(04:06):
It made it up to the spotnumber four on the Billboard Hot two
hundred, number one on the USRock Albums and Soundtrack Albums. It is
the first album to have no museon it. I was a little you
know when I say confusing. Thereare two singles off of this, obviously
it will Ryan Bruno Mars and AThousand Years by Christina and then this is

(04:29):
fun so me and my astro,we'll talk about her a little bit later.
She sings a song on the soundtrack. She actually plays Carmen in the
movie. And then you'll get akick out of this. Evanescence really wanted
to be on this soundtrack, butthey submitted some songs and Summit did not
approve of any of them. Thisalbum would have been so much better with
Evanescence on it. Yeah, butit would have been weirder for sure.

(04:50):
Yeah, but we needed something tobring back, like the OG album.
Should we start talking about the songs? Okay? Okay, So the order
of the songs were starting with endTapes, which is by The Joy Formidable.
It is the first credit song inthe movie. What I've been saying,

(05:18):
I said the phrase like reminiscent ofprevious albums. I said, this
one was reminiscent of past albums, but with like a hint of like you're
saying, like the new indie pop, Like it was a little more pop
esque. It gave me green Lightby Lord Vibes. Okay, alright,
it's like it's sort of dramatic andlike anticipatory but still fun. Yeah,

(05:42):
it's still like a little I wastrying to while I was listening to this
and taking notes, I was liketrying to find the word of what I
think I mean. I feel likethere was a tone that was missing from
the soundtrack that was in the otherones. And it's like something about it
being like kind of grungy, melancholic, like something. I can't find the
word. I'm sure there is it'ssomewhere, but this song kind of gets

(06:05):
us there. It's like neutral,It's like not so obnoxiously happy. It's
still got like a little bit oflike dark thing underneath it, but it's
nice. I said. It's aneutral tone setter, a little bit of
that driving guitar that we're always talkingabout in these excited but not like like

(06:26):
again, it's not necessarily like ahappy song, right, Like, it's
just kind of like neutral. Yeah, it was neutral with an element like
it was I said, feeling ofapproaching a climax, but in a hopeful
way. M okay, without likeoverdoing it. Yeah. Generally just a
nice song, interesting lyrics, sellotape, an end to a story that is

(06:46):
hanging over silence, always wasted, swells with every tear drop, so it's
like, yeah, the lyrics arekind of like oh, but itself is
kind of it's kind of silly andhappy. I like this one a lot.
I will say great starter. Ithink I think out of any of
them, I would have probably alsostarted with the song in terms of sequencing.

(07:08):
Yeah, I also said it wasa strong start. Should we talk
about the next one? Yeah,I'm interested in what you think of it.
The song number two is Love WillTake You by Angus and Julia Stone.

(07:32):
It is the wedding reception song kindof plays in the background. Didn't
like it, sorry, See it'shilarious because I wrote, I am a
sappie simp and I love I thinkingyou would because like Angus and Julia Stone
like very of the times, verytwenty, definitely like indie pop vibes,
and I think it's fitting. Ijust personally it's not for me. It
did like get old. Like atfirst I'm like, oh cute, and

(07:56):
then I'm like, okay, howmuch sap like can I take in one?
Yeah? I think like my thingwith this entire soundtrack that I know
I have to get over because it'snot a problem with the soundtrack, it's
just a problem with me, isthat, like I don't like sickly sweet
songs like that, and this entirealbum is sickly sweet songs. Yeah,
and that's okay, but it isone of those things where it's just like

(08:18):
I didn't enjoy this one. Yeah, I said it was fitting of the
scene. I could have seen italso working like before the wedding and like
a scene like there's the part whereBella is getting ready. And then I
said, it's definitely been used innumerous weddings since. Yeah, and there's
some pretty it like develops into somemore strings like violins, and yeah,

(08:39):
that's something that is definitely in aton of songs, like strings, a
Kusticki folky guitar, a little bitof Morocca in the song. Yeah,
I don't remember if there was pianoin the song. But that's also something
that's inn a ton of these songsversus a lot of the like grungy guitars
and like driving bassline kind of thingsthat we got in the last soundtrack.

(09:01):
But you know it, like again, it makes sense. I get it
they're getting married, Hine, Butto me it's a little forgettable. Yeah,
Like it was nice and cute, but I didn't like add it to
my playlist of sappie songs. Anotherthing that I that we'll talk about later
is a lot of like not necessarilyduets, but like male and female or

(09:26):
like masculine and feminine voices, anda lot of these songs like balancing each
other out, which is also verylovy. I suppose, Yeah, I
didn't think about that all right.Number three is It Will Rain by Bruno
mars Z, which of course isin the credit scene after the Vulture credit
scene, because we have like aton of credit songs. Okay, I

(09:50):
have a hard time, and thiswill be the next song too, or
in a couple of songs. Ihave a hard time with this song because
it is so ingrained in me thatthis is a twilight song that I don't
know how to talk about it justas a song, you know what I
mean, and has also so ingrainedin me as a middle school girl,

(10:11):
just like going to school and thisplaying on the radio. Yeah, it's
just like one of those songs thatwas like so in pop culture at the
time that I can't I don't eventhink I have thoughts about it anymore.
I'm like, it's just that songfrom twenty eleven. Yeah, and it
like this album I will say hasmore skips than the previous ones, but

(10:33):
I don't skip this song, yeah, like I know what's coming. And
it was also just like casual listeningwhen I was getting familiar with the soundtrack
this past couple of days, butlike I was doing the dishes and I
was singing this song, so Iknow, I'm like, I know all
the lyrics to it. I couldlike happily sing along to it. I
feel like I'm a fifty fifty whetherI skip it or not, because again,

(10:54):
I'm just like I'm so neutral aboutit. I'm like Bernel Mars,
like did put a lot into it? Yeah. Yeah, it's also interesting
this was when Bruno Mars was stillkind of like new. But I think
this is the first true pop songof this saga, right, I would
say so, yeah, because everythingwe had before this was like pop rock,

(11:15):
rock, punky stuff, miscellaneous whateverthe hell muses it was indie somehow.
Yeah, but this is like theI mean, yeah, this would
be on hits radio and yeah forsure, and it was, you know,
like this was on the radio everyhour. Twilight obviously got big after
the first one, and it waslike Summit took over by breaking dawn.

(11:37):
They were like, this is atrue franchise. And then which is weird
and even like like every movie feelsa little different in terms of the colors
and the quality and breaking down wasvery like Hollywood CGI. But it is
weird our first pop song and notour last. Yeah. I mean,
I will say it sticks out alot to me, at least coming from

(11:58):
these two previous song I was justlike, huh, it is strange on
the like listening to the album, like even his voice is vocally so different
than anything we've heard on these soundtracksbefore, which is like, you know,
it's fine, it's Bruno Mars.I'm not complaining, but it was
a little jarring. As I saidin the beginning, right, I do

(12:20):
like this song. Like of allBruno Mars songs, this song goes pretty.
I see. I can't tell ifI like this song or not because
I'm just a far removed. It'stwenty twenty three and I don't know what
to think moving on. Song numberfour is turning page by Sleeping at Last
Fine ally, Hi smile, Hi, you cry when you cast It is

(12:50):
the sex scene and also the walkingdown Nile, but mainly the sex scene.
That is funny that we word itthat way because I asked permission if
I could talk about this, andI'm going to be in a wedding probably
around like the week that this episodecomes out or so, and my friend's

(13:11):
fiance really likes this song and wantsthe bridal party me to walk down the
aisle to this song. Does heknow what it's from? No, So
then my friend was like, that'sin Twilight, just so you know.
And he's like, well, Ireally love the song, and she's like,
I just think it'd be kind offunny because it's Twilight. And it

(13:33):
was one of those things where she'slike he's like okay, whatever. She's
like, okay, but do youreally want it? You know, like
the groom doesn't real Yeah, alot of say so he's like, yeah,
I don't really like it and she'slike all right, Like I think
it'd be kind of fun ironic, but it's still pretty and like she loves
Twilight. She listens to our podcastlike every episode. Yeah, so she

(13:54):
was like all right, And thenI was like, but do you because
they knew it from the weddings.Yeah, And I was like, but
I'm pretty sure it's also the sexscene. So she is revisiting that and
we'll see if Hey, if you'relistening, I really it's gonna be too
late. It's gonna be too late, but I do think you should do
it. I would be the instrumentalversion, which is the Walk down the
Aisle. I don't think if Iheard the instrumental, that's the first place

(14:18):
in my mind. And it isa pretty song. It's super wedding me.
Yeah. Sure, It's definitely beenused in weddings. I will probably
do a combination of laughing and crying. Yes, yeah, yeah, no,
and I think that's fair. Asidefrom that, it is a very
beautiful song. Yeah, it's areally good love song. Again, it's
super fitting for the wedding movie.Did you know Ryan O'Neill of this band

(14:43):
wrote the song for the movie? From edwards perspective, Oh interesting, see,
now I gotta pull up lyrics basicallylike and I've been waiting for you
message. I think, oh yeah, I've waited one hundred years, but
I'd wait a million more for you. Well that's kind of fun. Yeah.
I was just looking it up tolike verify and remember which specific scenes
it was in, and then Googlegave me that little fact. That's kind

(15:07):
of nice. Yeah, did hewrite it for the sex scene? I
wonder if he knew, like inthe pitch, because I think they only
show you like a small snippet ofthe movie when you like write a song
for a movie. I'm curious whathe saw I would inspire this. Also,
I had a thought while I waslistening to this song today that I
think they're reasoning for using the samesong and both scenes is interesting, and

(15:31):
it was just taking me back tothis Stephanie Meyer being traditional and wanting to
connect it to like a feeling oflove and not making it overly sexual.
Yeah. No, I agree thoughdefinitely, Like I think it's just about
like like very deep intimacy and loveand it's not necessarily supposed to be seen
as like raunchy, which is funnyto me because he's also like breaking the

(15:52):
fucking bedframe, feathers of flying everywhere. So I'm like, I'm getting mixed
signals. What am I supposed tofeel? It is like a really sweet,
like lovey song against strings and pianoare back, but I like indie
rock pop vocals. Yes, thevocals are like raspy. Yeah. I

(16:12):
don't know a lot about this band. I probably could have looked into it,
but it feels it feels more cohesive. Maybe M again another song that
is just like so ingrained in meas a twilight song that I'm like,
no, yeah, this is Mit's there. But am I ever able
to have any kind of real opinionon the song that isn't just like it's

(16:34):
the sex scene and Twilight. No. Yeah, because they were talking about
the song, someone like played itand I was like, this is the
sex scene and they were like,no, it's the wedding scene. And
I was like, I was like'snot associated with that? Well, I
don't know, it's hard to saythat. I was gonna say, I
don't think anyone's like associating the songwith sex, but maybe maybe just to

(16:59):
call my mind, but honestly, that would be such a memorable thing,
you know, And look again,it's nice. I really want this person
to do this. I will letyou know immediately after I get my phone
back from whatever wedding things. Yeah, I'm cheering for them, all right,
let's move on. The next songis called From Now On by the

(17:21):
Features. It is in the montageof the Honeymoon where she's trying to be
like, hey, what if wedid the thing? He was like,

(17:41):
and they're playing chess yeah and jumpingin the river. Yeah. I liked
the song a lot. It gaveme eclipse vibes like Vampire Weekend vibes that
like indie rock. Yeah, it'sa lot more energetic. I realized I
liked a lot of the songs onthis album that reminded me of Eclipse specifically,
Yeah, you did love because Iknow maybe that was like one of

(18:03):
the disappointing things. I think it'slike we started to go from like pop
punk kind of vibes into rock andlike grungeyer rock, and then I was
really wanting that to continue in thissoundtrack, and it just didn't. I
also think something that was interesting realizingwhat scenes they were in and then how

(18:25):
it went from like something really lightheartedbefore a really dramatic moment. So like
this song is like like upbeat, will you like distracting Bella so we don't
have sex, and then like shegets so sad after that chess scene.
Yeah, and then she's like cryinglike please touch me, and then she

(18:47):
ends up being pregnant. Yeah.Yeah, No, I liked the song
a lot better. It's a littlejarring. After turning page, I think,
right, I will continue to talkabout this, but I had an
issue with the sequencing of this albumbecause when you have so many slow,
nice little love songs and then someof these songs that are a lot like
more energetic and happy and faster beats. I'm like, oh my god,

(19:11):
because we literally went from it WillRain to Turning Page, both like similar
ish kind of vibes, like veryslow, sweet tempos into like having a
lot of energy again, which Iguess is fine, but I was kind
of like, oh, hey,I agree. It was very random,
and I don't really necessarily think theywere thinking about this, but it was

(19:34):
like I was like, oh,that kind of fits with the plot of
the movie. Yeah, but Idon't like listening to the album separate like
all the other albums we can listento separate from the movie to a degree.
Yeah, Like, on one hand, all the songs like are always
related to the movies, but youcan enjoy them as a separate piece.
And this is just the songs thatwe're in breaking down. Yeah. Yeah,

(20:00):
it's like again, it's a funsong. I think it's one of
the stronger ones from the album. In my opinion. I like the song
a lot, and I like thatit's it's still romantic. It's about like
growing up together, like growing oldtogether. Even I think one of the
lyrics talks about like growing gray together, but it's like less like not obnoxious,

(20:21):
but it's less like sickly sweet, which is nice for me. And
there's enough music and it's upbeat enoughthat you don't like think about the lyrics,
like the lyrics don't carry it.Yeah, and uh, it's like,
I don't know. I think it'sreally fitting for like the Honeymoon to
have it be like fun and stillromantic and still playful. And I get

(20:41):
I said, it gives me likeI mean, obviously the Honeymoon montage was
a montage, but it was likeit's a very montage. Yeah, song,
very much road trip vibes as well. I put it on my indie
house party playlist. Yeah, sothere you go, like, here's a
here's a song that we really enjoyedfrom this album one of One. Next,

(21:03):
it's A Thousand Years by Christina Perry. I've died every day, Wait
four. This song is in everygoddamn scene in my mind. But it
is the fourth end credit song.I know part of me is like,
is A thousand Years? The othersex scene? No, which is the

(21:26):
fourth end credit? I think likeI think it's because it comes back in
part two and it's so much abig part of Part two. Did they
put it in commercials? They putit so they put in the They probably
did, I would guess, becauseI'm like, it's in a very obvious
place some in Part two. It'slike the final end credits where they show
every character and that to me islike the biggest moment for this song in

(21:48):
the theaters or in the movies.Put a lot of money into pushing it
out. But yeah, it's funnythat it is the fourth end credit song.
You'd think it'd be like, Imean, I guess her coming her
like opening her eyes. It wouldbe weird to be like I died it,
did you know? I think theyshould have just kept it for the
second one at the end. Yeah, Like that's big enough. And that's

(22:11):
what I remember it being because Iremember like tearing up when I first saw
it and being like wow, wereally yeah huge? Yeah, And like
by that point I think I wassick of the song, right because honestly,
so here's my I have said this, I think before on the podcast.
I hate this song. I justhate it. And it's like the

(22:32):
crappy part is like it's not abad song, I just hate it.
It was just overdone. It wasso overdone, which is ironic of me
to say, as like a personwho works in pop radio, but like
it was just like drilled into everyone'sheads. The other thing is my mom
loved this song two pieces, soshe always fucking played it, and I
was just like, I was like, not into this type of music at
the time. I was very muchlike an indie pop girly, and so

(22:52):
I'm just like, I can't.It's only twilight. Do you remember Jar
of Hearts? I just okay, honest, they made What thing is that
I don't like her? Yeah, she had her moment and then didn't.
And what do you say about thesong other than yeah, it's the Twilight
song, which sucks because it likeis now the Twilight song. I feel

(23:14):
like over de code, which Ihate. No it, I get that,
I said in my initial notes,no comment. This is middle school.
This is slow dance at the eighthgrade. Yeah, yeah, yeah,
that's the other thing. Every wedding, every dance, it's there.
It's haunting me. The first thingI wrote about the song is the sequencing
is starting to piss me off becausewe went from okay, first song,

(23:37):
nice, upbeat song, second songslower happier, third song slow, fourth
song slow, fifth song energetic, sixth song slow, Like can we either
group these together or like split themup a little better. I feel like
the singles are like too close together, which puts so much weight on the
first half of the song after Yeah, I don't know. Again, it's

(24:00):
insanely romantic, which is again, this is a mean problem, I'm sure,
but it is getting overdone at thestart of it, at the start
of the album. I guess againit fits with the plot where it's like
wedding, honeymoon, fun stuff, and then like they don't sequence it to
the plot is my thing, Likethey've never sequenced the soundtracks to the plot.
They sequence somehow like they sound goodtogether. So I'm just like,

(24:22):
so, let's sequence it better differentthan the Yeah others. So I don't
get it. More strings accuser guitarat Yeah. We can put it to
bed, It's okay. Song numberseven is Neighbors by Theopolis, London.

(24:52):
It is the scene where Jacob isconfronting Bella and Edward at the reception,
so a little tense, which feltso weird. This song feels so weird
to me. This song is soweird and I don't remember it at all.
No, I remember the Course alittle bit, but it's weird because
normally for plot points like that, they just score it. They don't like
play like a soundtrack song like this, So that's interesting. But yeah,

(25:18):
this song's really I like it,but it's super weird. It just this
is what jarred me a million percent. The song is like like the most
different sounding song of any single albumthat we have ever listened to up until
this point. It is there's rappingit, there's brit rapping it. I
can't understand it. With the scene, like, I'm like, they probably

(25:41):
just use like the first like instrument. Yeah, I feel like I had
to be a background like reception songand then it kind of whatever. I
don't know. It wasn't like myvibe. It could be my vibe if
it was just in a completely differentcontext, but in the context of these
songs, I was like, yeah, sit with this because it's like this.
I really like the Course and Ithink the chorus fits. The verse

(26:04):
is just like this British rap.Again, I kind of liked this song.
I think it's interesting and like kindof different, but man, it
is so fucking weird in this yeah, it didn't like I was. I
listened to this while I was sittingon a hammock by the river, and
I was just like, I didnot listen through all the way. I

(26:25):
was like, I can't. Ithink they should have taken this one up.
But whatever, Sorry Theopolis London, but it's a cool song. Just
I don't know why they brought youinto this project. Song number eight is
I didn't mean it by the bellsRibot. It is the second credit song.

(26:52):
This was another that reminded me ofEclipse and was like white stripes e
Yeah, it's like or I like, yeah, it was like southern rocky
blues kind of twang. Yeah,I said, the name of this band
feels very fitting. I also noticedthere's a lot of feminine singers on this
album. Yeah, I wish Iwas in this scene. I think it

(27:14):
would have done well in a scene. Yeah, because it's like again,
it's energetic. I mean, whenI think about Breaking Dawn part one again,
except for the whole pregnancy, killingher bard and then she dies whatever.
But I think it as a asprobably one of the more happy movies.
I mean, overcome a lot ofthe conflict from the first three.

(27:34):
Yeah, I mean they're getting havingfun. Yeah, I mean, of
course it's starts a new conflict.Jacob's all pissy and then she's at the
start of the movie there is noconflict. Yeah, exactly. But yeah,
it was kind of a weird creditsong because I'm trying to think,
what is so our first credit songis the end tapes? Oh, our

(27:55):
second credit song is this Yeah, and then I think it gets into the
singles, so like that I thinkwould be kind of weird. Yeah,
to go from this into this intoit will rain. Yeah, I don't
know what that anyways. The lyricsof the song are a little odd.
I thought you were cheating. Icouldn't bear you leaving, Okay, but

(28:18):
yeah, it's fun. It's playfullof driving. Again. I feel like
we have two soundtracks in the soundtrackand we're just trying to fit these two
things together, and it's not quiteyeah catching me. I know. I
think it could be interesting, butand granted, like the decisions behind these
albums are made by people who getpaid to make these but it just fell

(28:38):
off. I also said the songkind of makes me mismuse, which I
never thought i'd say. No.Yeah, like I got a similar vibe
from them, and it made mebe like, I just want to listen
to Eclipse. It feels like we'retrying to feel like a muse shaped hole
that we just can't quite fill. All right, let's go to song number

(29:00):
nine, Sister Rosetta by The Noisettes. I can't get This is the song
that we play when Bella is likeshaving her legs and like putting on perfure,

(29:21):
I think getting ready to bang.Yeah, human moment. I do
like how the previous song transitions intothe song yes for I felt right,
yes, because this is another likekind of bluesy rock, but yes,
And I think it's fun for thescene because it's like kind of gritty and
swingy and it's very like like everyonelike help her. I didn't really like

(29:42):
it, yeah, in a curlyway. She's just a girl either.
Yeah. I do really like itin the scene in the soundtrack, I
like it little less whoopsies. Yeah, it was like it was fun for
me picturing the song with the scene. But like my second listen of this
album, I was like, Okay, I could set it honestly, but

(30:03):
you know, it's the same thing. It's fun, it's kind of aggressive,
driving it's faster. I also said, we're no longer brooding, and
I wish we were. I onlyrealized this like ad track nine in the
album, right, And I thinkit goes back to like the first three
albums are all about what's going tohappen with Bella and Edward. It's like
Bella and Edward he leaves Jacob, like are they going to be together?

(30:26):
This seems yeah, so like it'sjust hard, and then now they're like,
we've we finally we've gotten our parentsblessing, We've like cleared things up
with Jacob. We've like the vultorreissue behind us, like well for the
first like twelve minutes of the movie, and then it's like Jacob's like,
oh, so you guys are gonnahave sex while she's a human, Okay,

(30:47):
so you're gonna kill her? AndI'm like, they're still brooding moments.
I just the soundtrack and A getI think we talked about this in
the past, like and probably allof them, but all the soundtrack songs
feel very concentrated towards the beginning, and then when we finally get into like
the plot, like the you know, the bigger pieces of plot it starts
to be only score m we shouldscore a film. We really, I

(31:11):
think that'd be a lot of fun. Maybe not scoring a film, but
soundtrack of a film. I thinkthat would be yes. But yeah,
I just want to get back tothe broody stuff, because there are broody
I mean, Jacob's a little pissbaby in this We could have given him
a song, huh. It's likeeverything's too nice in this album. You
know. It's like it's either thesongs are like fun and aggressive and driving,

(31:33):
or the songs are like really sweetand nice, and I'm like,
there's too many nice moments. Sorry, but that's Twilight. Okay, all
right. It's on number ten isNorthern Lights by Sighter Sky, and so
is Spatiful. I think it'd beennice with you the s Beawtiful, which

(32:00):
is Bella and Jacob's dance at thewedding. At first I said, twinkly,
I know, Northern Lights by CiderSky, how pretty, and then
it sounded very like that. Assoon as the lyrics started, though,
I was like, this is thisowl City. I literally wrote down It's
giving Owl City totally, but likeworse. Yeah, not as good,
but it's not as like fun andelectronic did just like skip it at a

(32:22):
certain point. Yeah, I havenothing else to say. I don't remember
them dancing to this either, No, not at all, so unmemorable.
The sequencing is just like it's likethey literally hit shuffle and they were like,
let's go with that. I don'tget it. I don't see the
I'm like trying to justify it asthey talk about it, but no,
there's nothing. There's nothing here.I could rearrange this in like ten seconds

(32:45):
and make it so much better.Another duet vibe back to being really romantic,
which is also funny to have forBella and Jacob. I also said
Edward Cullen would never play this onOX. No, no, I feel
like that should be the standard,Like would our characters play this on OX?

(33:06):
That is a really interesting way tolook at it. And Bella would
not either because she loves boring.Skip number eleven is flightless bird American Mouth
the wedding version by of course Ironand White. It's during the wedding,

(33:40):
I believe it or not. Yeah, this did make me cry in theaters.
The callback was perfect, like thatis the scene like that. Obviously
we've talked about this, but likeseen the end of that movie is what
made me like I need to keepwatching these, I need to read them.
Like the amount of like angst andlonging in that scene where like you

(34:00):
think he's gonna bit her and sohe just gently kisses her and he's like
is it not enough to just behappy with me for now? So like
that scene is like so important tothe whole song. And then but this
version is worse than Yeah, likeit on its own, I don't like
it. It got old. Yeah, I get the point of it in

(34:22):
the movie. I don't like itbetter than the original, but yeah,
I mean and again it's really cohesive. It's got like the strings, the
piano, it's giving kind of jazzclub Towards her point, I will say
it my biggest beef with the song. It's pretty right. The song itself
isn't meant to be like super Imean, it is a pretty song,

(34:46):
but like like the lyrics are likeI'm a fat house cat and then there's
these beautiful strings in that ground.I'm like, this doesn't make sense.
It needs to be a folky guitar. No, yeah, this song's weird,
but yeah, I'm just like, here's these like funny folks see,
like you know, Iron and Wineesque lyrics, and then it's like way
too pretty, Like they're trying tomake it be and it will write and

(35:06):
I'm like, but it's not,and you're kind of making it bad again.
In the movie, it is perfectlyfine. Yeah, because it does
transition from turning a page or whatever. Yeah, so like it makes portal
sense. I just don't care aboutit on its own. So yeah,
the scene in the emotion of theactual film, like Carrie's yeah, the
whole yeah thing. Song number twelveQuam on Water by Imperial Mammon. Yeah,

(35:37):
it's lost love. It is Abellaalone after discovering she's pregnant, all
right, did it feel too happy? Yeah? I think she was happy,
and I mean it would have helpedif we watched the movie, but
whatever. I think she was alittle happy afterwards. Yeah. I don't

(35:58):
think she was scared until Edward waslike this isn't well. I think it
was after that because I think shewas like touching her stomach and he was
like what and she's like, goesit and then the housekeeper came in and
was like, hey, that's rightbad. But I think it was when
she was just like alone, andshe was like, yeah, I'm gonna
have a baby, you know.I think another duet that we have on
our hands. Imperial Man likes sucha funny requiem on water Imperial Mammoth.

(36:23):
They would say that this poem fodder, sweet song, nice song, pretty
song. Lyrics are kind of interesting, kind of quirky, which you would
expect from a band called Imperial Mammoth. Yeah, but yeah, I would
say quirky is like my big,my big thing on the song, even
though it's like not quirky sounding thoughit's like very nice. Yeah. Also,

(36:50):
I broke a jar and started bleedingwhile the song played, so I
don't have a lot of notes, but I am giving it a minus point
for that there is blood all over. My note is Shane, though Yeah,
I didn't write down a lot besides, like I feel like this is
weird for the scene, Yeah, because it just really just bothered my memory
of it, I think, Yeah, but I liked it. I like

(37:13):
a simple, little folky, cutesong. That's cute, that's it.
Chick Song number thirteen is Cold byAqua Lung and Lucy Schwartz. This is

(37:43):
the song while Bella is being babiedknow about that, Like I was against
sitting by the river just laughing atmyself. I am baby, I said,
this vibe is more like it scary, said, what's gonna happen?
Yeah, fingeren dread. I probablycould have looked this up. This song
to me feels like it was madefor the movie because it ties in with

(38:05):
the score really nicely. And Icould be wrong about that, but it
sounds like the vibes that like CarterBurwell was going with in the score.
But yeah, it's kind of haunting. I think it's a way for in
it. The word cold I wrotedown cold ones cold wait, Yeah,
no exactly. It brought me tosome earlier albums. Yeah, just a

(38:25):
piano only song. Another duet, but like a spooky duet this time,
which is nice. Lots of prettyvoices on the soundtrack too, like I
feel like in the past move andagain it's the shift of genres, but
I feel like we had a lotof interesting voices in the past ones like
some gruff guys, and I'm like, yeah, and we have a couple
of those on here. But likeeveryone's just like some just very pretty good

(38:50):
singers, which I guess is chill. Yeah. No, for a lot
of them, I did write likethis song, I wrote pretty song,
and I wrote because pretty is differentthan beautiful, like pretty is like yeah,
cute, beautiful, yeah, andlike light and I wrote that for
a lot of these. Yeah,I don't know what it was a beautiful
song? Do we think? Inthe sounder? I think the closest we're

(39:12):
getting is eight Will Rain? Right, I agree. Actually I was going
to say it as a joke, but I do actually believe it. Yeah,
I think like if we're trying tomake a scale out of this,
that's beautiful. This song, well, the song is kind of cool.
I guess the song is a weird, but then pretty would be a thousand
years? Yes, yeah, that'scorrect. Instead of asking if your girl's

(39:34):
pretty or beautiful, ask is sheit will Rain? Or a thousand years?
Anything else? On this one?Not really. I it's not like
the type of interesting song I wouldlisten to. Actually, yes, but
for this album, it did likebring me back into it actually checked out
of it works really well on thealbum. I don't necessarily care about it
on its own. It will notbe going onto one of my flights exactly,

(39:58):
which is okay, song number fourteenis yo Vera by me and my
astro. No, no, ohno, this is Bell and Edward fucking

(40:22):
in the ocean, my favorite scene. I also wrote pretty, though,
now that we've established what pretty means, Yeah, maybe more towards the beautiful
scathe iconic scene personally, like Iwould skip this song, but I admire
the talent a lot. Yeah forsure. Yeah, I think I'm in
a similar similar boat. I didlike translate the lyrics really roughly, and

(40:47):
it roughly translates to it will rainwhere it's raining, I think like active
tents, so it's like it willrain minimal drops, it will rain from
my mouth, the sea will comeout. And then it's kind of a
Romeo things, so it's no noRomeo, no no, no, don't
leave me. Your life was alreadyconceived. It will rain streams of water,
smooth water. I think the translation'spretty bad, but roughly water and

(41:09):
Romeo. So kind of a weirdlyrical song for the sex scene. But
I guess it's maybe impending doom ifyou know Spanish. That's fun. Sure,
And then again another callback like Romeoand Juliet, Yeah for sure.
You know what kind of a speciallittle song Knowing is from one of the
actors, and it's during a prettybig scene, I mean the scene that

(41:32):
starts a lot of other stuff,if you know what I'm saying. But
yeah, pretty simple, more piano, more strings, pretty cohesive in that
way, very cinematic as well. It's like like there's only there's not that
many lyrics. It's like five plusminutes long. By the third minute,
I was like, is this notover? I was like, did I

(41:52):
listen to this twice? I dothink I skipped at the syrup point.
Also, it took me until this, Like I think I had been thinking
it, but this song is whatmade me write down album lacks cohesion,
hard to be like this song feelslike like you know, other albums we've
been like, this feels like aNewan song, Like no song feels like
a breaking dawn song. Yeah,because I don't know what a breaking dawn
songs. And like this switch upfrom like folky songs to a interesting,

(42:19):
grungier ballad to like a Spanish balladwas just like what what After both of
the singles have passed, I waslike, yeah, like, what's gonna
come next? They should have puta single towards the end. They really
should have all right. Song numberfifteen is Love Death Birth. It is
by Carter Burwell. It's all throughoutthe movie, most predominantly well Bella is

(42:52):
transforming as per usual. Don't havemuch to say about the song. It
is a score song, so Idid. It took me a si because
I was like, oh, thattitle isn't really fitting, and it like
give me a bit to recognize itwas the score song until they started they
rope in the meadow. Yeah,it's which recognizable. It's super I will
say, it is a really coolscore song, like the way that it

(43:14):
like flows into like like it tapsinto all of the other score pieces that
he's done. And then like rightwhen you get to the end, it's
just that like little like it getsall quiet and then I can just see
her eyes opening. Yes, Iknow it fits with the scene so well,
because that scene is one of likethe coolest scenes where her veins are

(43:35):
turning the ice and like her spinesnaps up. Yeah yeah, and I
just like I just of all mytimes like scene a movie in theaters,
I think I remember, that's ahuge moment. I remember this movie.
The most strange placement though, weirdplacement because we have another song. Well,
okay, that's technically the end ofthe album of the soundtrack, but

(43:59):
there is a bone. There's afew bonus songs. Song number sixteen Slash
a bonus song like a Drug byHard five Kick Kick. I don't like
the song. I could not figureout what other type of band, but

(44:22):
I said it's Muse plus something likeit was Muse plus some very basic pop
or basic like nineties pop. Yeah, it's like it's not the Cure because
I actually like the Cure, butit's like a very commercial version of the
Cure. Yeah. Because it's thedude's voice. It's like he's trying to
like I literally were dumb. Ilike the cool guy voice in addition to

(44:43):
the cow bell in the background.Super great. I said, I don't
hate it, but I don't loveit, and I feel like the chorus
is easy, Like if I wasseeing that song in a concert, it
would very like it'd be one thatif I didn't know it, I could
catch on halfway through. Yeah.Yeah, with the with the mus thing,

(45:04):
I said, it kind of haslike sci fi elements, like it
is kind of technoi but in avery specific way, and it feels like
they're singing like a different song forlike part of the chorus before it gets
into like the more energetic but likeit's just like it's just really strange song.
Frankly, I put down this songis bad. I don't know if
I've ever called a soundtrack song bad, but here we are. I didn't

(45:25):
like this song. I think it'dbe good. It's brought it to Yeah,
it's a it's a really great it'sa good start. It's a good
demo. But I think we needto work on I think they're just trying
to do too fucking much. Yeah, exactly. The mix on it is
also so muddy, Like I wasagain, I was listening to this whole
thing through my nice speakers. Iwas like, this sounds like sh Another

(45:47):
bonus song is Turning Page instrumental, which is the sex or walking down n
Aisle, right, I think Ithink the words are the sex scene yeah
again by Sleeping Net. Last,I have nothing new to say about the
because that's the instrumental. And thenthe last bonus song is Eclipse All Yours
by Kevin Teasley, which is thelike instrumental version of Eclipse from the previous

(46:12):
movie which is kind of cool.Added, I do like that. Again,
I'd like Eclipse a lot now thatwe went over that last time.
Yeah, I don't like the waythey did this though. It's like it's
giving like cheap, like commercial backgroundmusic. Yeah, I'm pretty indifferent about
it. Yeah, I said,I feel like I'd hear this in a
hobby lobby. It sounds like abad karaoke version of the song. Okay,

(46:37):
just didn't like it. Sorry.Yeah, and the bonuses are pretty
boring. Yeah, the bonus, which you know whatever, that's it though,
that's the breaking non part one soundtrack. What do we think there wasn't
like any song I was like excitedto talk about. Yeah, there's things
that I liked, but yeah, nothing like opened me to new music or

(47:00):
old music that I forgot I liked, Like, it didn't really pull me
in any way. Yeah, becausethe singles are iconic, but like again
I about I mean, I mightgo listen to Bruno, like a Bruno
Mars mix just for nostalgia purposes. But it's not like someone's gonna be like,
oh, what are you listening tothese days? And I'm gonna be

(47:21):
like, I've been really into BrunoMars again. And we've said it about
a billion times while talking about thesesongs, but there is just no cohesion.
It like bounces from mainstream pop toindie pop to like to some like
kind of like interesting rock moments.Any song that reminded me of previous albums,

(47:43):
Yeah, didn't have been good onthose albums. Yeah, I was
just glad to have anything. Yeahyou know what I mean. Yeah,
it's like the only like there. It's weird because there were cohesive moments,
Like again, we have a lotof piano, we have a lot of
strings, we have a lot oflike acoustic guitar. I did it wasn't
in all of the songs, Ican tell you that. And then we
just go back and forth and backand forth to like genre de genre de

(48:06):
genre, and it's so confusing, and it was like very frustrating. Yeah,
so you guys can just skip thisone. Yeah, we did it
for you. Do it for you, so you really don't have to just
listen to Bruno Mars. That's it. Yeah, it really was, Like
I mean obviously, the first timeI listened to it, I was taking
notes, and then the second timeI was just listening to it to listen

(48:28):
to it again, But that secondlisten just wasn't I was just like fucking
bored. I didn't really like listeningto the score song Like the music wasn't
very good, but it did haveme thinking a lot about like just the
journey of the saga. Yeah,I will say I did take a little
peek into Breaking Down part two andit gets more into there, so hopefully

(48:52):
that one's better. But yeah,I don't know. I just I think
it was a hard transition album wherethey were just like trying to find it
and they didn't really do a goodjob. And imagine if Evanescence was on
here, then we'd have something totalk of them. God damn. All
right, So here's the fun part, fun part. As per usual,

(49:12):
weach picked out three songs that wewould put on this soundtrack. What was
your headspace when doing this? Whatdid you want to do with your songs?
I wanted ones that kind of remindedme of the songs that I liked,
and then I also went with onethat's kind of a callback. Okay.
I went with songs that felt Ireally wanted to like keep to like

(49:32):
a twenty eleven, like twenty tento twenty thirteen kind of thing. And
then I also kind of picked sceneslike I picked like I'll talk about it
later, but I picked like alove song, and I picked like a
rock So anyways, I'm gonna startwith my callback. Since we don't have
a good sense of what this albumactually feels like, I was like,
we can pick anything, So Ipicked a lack of color by Death Cab

(49:54):
for Cutie turns you Yes, feeldiscouraged. There's a lack of color here.
Oh see, that's smart. Ialmost went with death Cat song I
think it's not it's light but notlight in the way that songs have been

(50:15):
on this soundtrack, because it's kindof melancholy at the same time, and
I liked I really just I've hadthis on my playlist of like songs I
would put in a Twilight movie, and I have never known exactly where to
put it. So I just decidedto put it here because it, like
death Cat, feels very like Ironand Wine to me. Yeah. Yeah,

(50:37):
And I just wanted more of likefeeling nostalgia toward the album, so
I just put in a song bya band that I like that reminds me
of Twilight. No, and DeathCat makes perfect sense in Twilight too,
because it's like sweet, but it'snot annoyingly and it's still just like I
don't know. Yeah, it's likea pondering song. Yeah, that could

(50:58):
go in a scene with like JacobOh for sure. And I like that
It's almost neutral enough where you couldput it in a lot of scenes too,
Like it's kind of rainy vibes too, you know what, I think
it really work in there. Wellthanks, all right. So, like
I said, I wanted to doa kind of rock song. This isn't
quite a rock song, but Iwanted to do a song that felt that

(51:21):
had some energy. This is calledChampagne Swing. It's by Rocky I like
that. Yeah, I picked asong because again this album wasn't super rocky,

(51:42):
and I did kind of want moreof a rock song. But every
time I picked like a true rocksong, I was just like, it
just doesn't fit, it doesn't feelright. So I picked something with a
little bit more energy. I thinkthis could easily be like a Honeymoon song.
But I think with all the happymoments in this album, you need
somehow be your stuff, which againthat soundtrack already has. But I like
that this one has more energy, but it's viby. It still feels like

(52:07):
indie pop. Yeah, it remindsme of like the first song, where
like it's energetic in a positive way, but still neutral. Yeah. I
don't know if it'd perfectly fit inhonestly, just because it's a little like
it feels a little more modern thantwenty eleven and it feels a little I
don't know, it feels a littlenot super twilighty, but with this album.

(52:29):
Exactly, with this album, Iwas like, I can do whatever
the funk I want. Exactly. We were joking that we could have done
some crazy stuff. I was joking. We were going through like the top
hits from twenty eleven, and Iwas joking. I was like, let's
put in I Need a Doctor bylike Skylar Gray, Eminem and Doctor Dry.
I really like if that followed theBruno Mars song, it really wouldn't
feel your hospital that about to givebirth and it's I need It's that that

(52:53):
went hard. That's all right, what's your next song go in with a
similar vibe of the one you justsuggested? One I picked was Machine by
Grimlin, but it's like gr mLN, which just very similar to what

(53:21):
you just said where it's like likeit's a little up beat, like it's
a feel good song. I'm likedriving and I'm not a man, you
know, but there's like a certainlevel of like deepness to it. Like
and by that I mean like likethe bass is heavier and that song like
it's very subtle, but it's thereand consistent, and again it's just kind

(53:45):
of neutral. Yeah. I thinkthe thing I'm realizing that I like about
a lot of the Twilight songs, say for like a few different ones,
but like I like that a lotof the songs. I could imagine myself
driving through Forks on a rainy day. That is the vibe that song.
Yeah, it's like again it's bringingback a little bit of the like dark
just a little hint of the darknessback, Like we're gonna put it in

(54:08):
the album for them. Yeah exactly. Sorry guys, but we're like a
little emo, okay, and youtook that away from us in this album.
Again, another like good one thatyou could do in a transitional scene
and then kind of like do onthe background. I really wanted to do
a love song because I was like, yes, no offense to these love

(54:28):
songs, but I want to dosomething that is like painful, Like these
are like cute love songs. Iwant like a painful piny. This is
called Islands. It's by Young theGiant, Fuck Girl and n Ha Good

(54:49):
Never. It's hard to only listento a clip of the song because it's
like really a slow build up,but it's like very atmospheric. It's really
like low and slow. I justfeel like for their kind of love,
we're talking about the emo twilight saga, something that's eternal. Yeah, that

(55:14):
hurts the glimpses I got of thesong just now. I would that lean
towards beautiful, Yeah, exactly. We need more beauty, And I like
in Young the Giant, this albumcame out, I think, and I
want to say twenty twelve, butthat might be wrong, but like right
around that time. But they're definitelyindie pop and that song is just like
really beautiful for them, Like Ithink a lot of people know them for

(55:36):
they're really fun, upbeat songs. But like it's a good one to listen
to. Front to bag. You'reobviously only going to get like a thirty
second clip of it. But mythird song is on our own Lime Cordia.

(56:01):
So I think that song it's justvery fun. It's very like indie
pop or reminds me kind of likePhoenix. Again, I was just missing
stuff. But also I think couldfit like Honeymoon. It could fit a
reception, and it's just like afeel good song that didn't feel angsty enough
to go in any of the otherones. Yeah. No, I agree

(56:22):
with that because it is nice andlike again, I this soundtrack has those
nice moments, and I think they'reperfectly fine and acceptable. But I just
didn't like the way the people whochose the soundtrack picked out those moments,
right, like this one could replaceone and it would feel a little Yeah,
that one feels like it could belike Honeymoon montage. Maybe even though

(56:42):
I liked the song they chose forthat, Yeah, they're saying finally on
our own, like yeah, exactly, even just chill it and see.
Yeah a good one because I've hadit on other playlists. And then I
was going through my Twilight playlist andI was like, huh, yeah,
I guess I knew what I wasdoing somehow. Okay, So I said
I wanted to do a rock song. I said I wanted to do a

(57:04):
love song. I want to doa sex song. I did, And
this was hard because I was like, I could make it so like stupidly
raunchy, but I was like,it has to fit in. Sure,
you probably will recognize this one. This is Nothing's gonna hurt you baby by
Cigarettes after sex smile quay nosolch.I love this song. I did too.

(57:38):
Yeah, I've been listening to thesong for a long time, and
I really I wanted to pick outa sex song because I'm like, no
offense to turning page. We lovethat song, but I just feel like
for the sex scene, I wantsomething a little different, something that's a
little more sensual, not necessarily likeraunchy and gross, but like just sensual
and without playing any ideas in anyone'shead. Yes, that is my personal

(58:00):
vibe. It's a song that's likethis could just be kind of a piny
and love song. Yeah, butlike what, like is that also my
sexual love language? Yes, yes, right, yeah, No, it's
it's that like really like deep bass. It's like the low and slow vocals.
It's like I think it's a goodtransition song to go from I'd Love

(58:22):
You too, Hey, Right,I like that song a lot. I
like really struggled to find like thesex song, and just nothing felt right
for the movie. Nothing fit into the vibe and the indie rock pop
vibe. But that song cigarettes aftersex right around twenty I want to say,

(58:42):
twenty twelve is when that first EPcame out where that's on it,
and lyrically it makes sense too, like nothing's gonna hurt you baby, which
is also a little ironic for thesex scene because he does her, but
like for the sake of it beingcute, you know, yeah, and
I kind of like the irony ofit. Yeah. I like that.
I like that, and I likethat you've just like introduced me to them

(59:04):
again, That's what I got.I had more Picking out the songs is
always fun, yeah, but Ihad much more fun. And I didn't
even spend that much time on thattoday, honestly, Like I just went
through the playlist I've had saved andwas like, because like the soundtrack was
just so underwhelming that I was likeall I have. Yeah, I was
