On October 24th, we're holding a New Moon Brew 'N View at the Majestic Theater in Madison! GET TICKETS: https://majesticmadison.com/event/brew-n-view-new-moon-twilight/

As TwiHards, we have our own jargon, discussing terms like “the blue tint” or “TITSOAK.” We talk about how the first Victoria was our favorite and sing every word when “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” comes on. But to an outsider, those references don’t land.

What happens when we challenge play-by-play commentator, Jon Arias, to watch Twilight for the first time? Can the 2008 film hold up without the nostalgia factor or is the baseball scene lackluster to fresh eyes?

kind of like attendance and also thatkind of energy energy. So this one,
like knowing how last year went andknowing that people might be like looking

(03:21):
game, which we've already kind ofmade for New Moon. Yeah, we
tested that a New Year's Eve.Yeah, So if you come, we

you can take it home. Wewill also have signature cocktails again this year
that we are kind of helping tomake this year. I mean we're not

(03:42):
going to help. We're you know, yeah, we will not be bartending.
No, no, you're gonna getthe worst poor in the world for
me. But yeah, we gavethem some themes to work with, some
iconic lines from the movie, andthere will be an NA option which we
love to see as well. Guys, there's going to be a foe up
and I'm not going to spoil toomuch, but uh, it's pretty good.

(04:04):

to FPC Live. So most ofthe concerts in the Madison area. That's
pretty nice. And tickets, ourand tail Right now, as we speak
these words, they're going to belinked in our episode notes and our Twitter.
It's just a mere ten dollars, guys. Okay, so it's like
going to the movies, but youget a bunch of extras. Yeah,

(04:53):
and it's gonna be rowdy and simplyso fun. So please attend that.
Uh yeah, it's gonna be reallyembarrassing if like three people show up and
it's just you know, last yearwe said that and then there were like
two hundred people. Yeah, butthe ticket price went up this year,
so who knows, But there's alot more this year. And it's a

(05:14):
Tuesday, and it's a Tuesday.Yeah, we're really we're moving up in
the world. Okay, yeah, third to second, Monday to Tuesday.
Just slowly, really slowly. Okay. I think that's all we got before
we need to get into our episode. So let's stalk to John. John

(05:36):
Odious is the play by play commentatorfor Badger of volleyball and women's basketball,
which he has been doing since twothousand and eight. He has several championship
rings as part of his role withthe volleyball team. In addition to his

like Kelly Sheffield and Seawan and Nichols. He also produces and co host the
Amon Green Gamer's Launch podcast. John. Welcome to the podcast. Wow,
thank you dynamite intro. You nailedit. Yeah, that's pretty much.
That's pretty much me and John.I don't know if you remember this,
but when we first made this podcast, I remember like coming to your studio

(06:21):
and telling you about it, andyou were one of the people who actually
told us to do a watch partyfor like the movies. And last year
we had a watch party, andthis year we just announced that we're about
to do another one for New MoonLet's Go. And that's because of you.
And in fact, if you wanton, if you end up loving
this movie and you want on theguest list, let me know for real.

(06:44):
When is it. It will beOctober twenty fourth at seven thirty pm,
which is a Tuesday Fidlight Tuesday.Oh perfect, I like it a
literation. So where does that fallin the lineup of movies. It's the
second one, so I feel like, yeah, awesome, that sounds so
cool. Uh yeah, I wouldlove to maybe do that. I just

(07:04):
check my schedule, but that soundsawesome. Then I can get the second
movie, Boom checked off my list. So we're gonna make you watch Twilight.
Yeah, do you think it's gonnabe fun? What's define fun?
Well, what's what's your definition offun? If I'm watching a movie?
Uh? If I think if Isay to you, hey, that was
a fun movie, then I wasengaged the whole time. Uh, and

(07:28):
it probably went by pretty quickly. And at the end, I'm gonna be
like, damn, that was apretty damn good movie. That's that's my
definition of fun. So do Ithink I'm in for fun for Twilight?
I don't remember the plot that muchI have. I believe I've seen Twilight.
So this is where I'm at.I believe I saw it. But
when did it come out? Twothousand and eight? Okay, I was
probably busy with learning volleyball in twothousand and eight. Yes, so I

(07:53):
think I've seen it. I haveno idea what it's I don't remember it,
but am I gonna have fun?I might have some fun? Okay,
Well that's a great, great outlookspeaking of you not knowing the plot
of Twilight. To your knowledge, what is the plot of Twilight? Great?
All right, So they've got thegirl. Her name is is it?

(08:16):
Is it Bella? Okay? Therewe go about Kristin Stewart, yes,
play sir, okay. And thenyou've got Robert Pattinson, Patterson,
patt what's his name Pattinson? Yeah, and he's the dude and he's a
vampire and they fall in love. You did? That's pretty really good?

(08:37):
Is that? It? Did?I knail it? It's like the key
points. Yeah, I mean that'sit's mainly you miss some stuff, but
you'll get there. I know theyplay a baseball game in one of the
movies. Oh, I'm excited foryou to see that because that's in this
movie. Oh it's in the firstone. Yeah, that I like that.

(08:58):
That's that scene. It's you know, I had a feeling. I
had a feeling. And one ofour post questions is specifically, what did
you think of that? Okay,I'll make sure to take notes on that
one. So yeah, I knowthere's a baseball scene. I know they
fall in love. I'm sure there'sa lot of drama in between, probably

(09:20):
like I thought you said you lovedme something like that. It might be
a line like that or something likethat. There's probably they're probably gonna kiss.
Yeah, and there's probably other vampires. Okay, not bad. So
what you were we were talking aboutyour definition of fun and you were like,
when I watch movies, this iswhat I like. What movies do
you tend to like and have funwith? Yeah, okay, that's a

(09:43):
great question because I like to thinkthat my taste in movies is I guess
somewhat similar to my taste in music, Like I'm open to anything, Like
are you going to number one?Are you going to entertain me? If
you are, I am going tosit down and watch, you know,
are you going to elicit some sortof emotion from me? You know,

(10:03):
if I am, that's probably better. And then like how well is it
made? Is it constructed well? Was the cinematography like, oh my god,
this is such a beautiful movie. Was the special effects like kick ass
like on a you know, asuperhero movie or something like that. So
I just kind of I'm open toanything, So there isn't like one specific
genre of movie that I'm into.I'm a big trailers guy, you know,

(10:28):
like see a good trailers. What'syour favorite movie? If you had
a pick, I really don't havea favorite movie. My movie viewing is
usually I'll watch a movie and whenI'm done, all right, that was
good, that was bad, whatever, and then go on to the next
because there's too many movies to watch. If I had to pick one,
I've always set Back to the Futureis my favorite. Those are good.

(10:50):
That's such a boy pick. Itis such a boy pick. Especially yeah,
and especially in that time frame whenbecause you know I'm older, that
time frame is like right when Iwas a younger kid watching that are yet?
Why is this in the podcast?Let's just say I was in elementary
school when Back to the Future cameout. I know that was just a

(11:13):
joke. Question. Okay, ournext question, how old or what year
were you born? Do you watcha Do you think you watch a lot
of sports movies? Though, Likeis that kind of a thing you reach
for? I mean, I willI will watch like The blind Side,
trying to think that's the only movieyou could come up with. Is that
mainly a drama movie? It's ait's a movie that apparently the guy in

(11:37):
it says I didn't get any moneyfor it. But that's a whole nother
drama. I mean, I'll watchhonestly, like, I'm just into whatever
is a good movie. And Isaid, you made fun of me when
I said I'm a trailers guy.Isn't everyone kind of a trailer person,
don't you? Yeah? So wouldyou call yourself a trailers guy if everyone's
a trailers guy? I guess so. I don't know. I just one

(12:00):
of my favorite parts of going tothe cinema, going to the theater is
like I think the trailers are sometimesas much fun as the movie. Yeah,
maybe you should watch the Twilight trailerthen it's pretty good. Oh yeah,
for sure, I will. Yeah, ties in with the music too.

(12:22):
Have you ever read Twilight at allor any of the books? Never?
I have. For some reason,we do have like a Twilight book
in the basement here, so Idon't know which one it was it is.
I've never read that. I've neverread Harry Potter. I don't know.
I'm just telling you things about you. Even read John have you ever
read anything? Now? I readtwenty minutes a day with my daughter at

(12:45):
the library after school. So I'mworking on a couple of books there.
Pretty sick, pretty sick. Yeah, so no, I've never read them.
Like I'm going into this for themost part, like I said,
other than the fact that I didsee it once before, but I don't
remember. I can't believe you don'tremember it well. I mean it was
fifteen years ago. It's memorable.I mean it was fifteen years ago for

(13:09):
us too, that's true, butright, but you've probably seen it again
since two thousand and eight. Yeah, what's your excuse? How many times
have you, guys seen the movie? I couldn't tell you could not tell
you really that many. It's it'slike for us, it's like a comfort
movie because the first one you canwatch as like a standalone. So it's
like Rainy Day. Just watch Twilightand you can forget that the rest exists.

(13:33):
Hey, is uh is Taylor Lautnerin the first one? Yes?
Okay, he's also in it.You said Rainy Day and made me think
of like the Pacific Northwest is whereit's set. Right, Yeah, okay,
all right, I remember he's awolf, so I know a little
bit more about this. Okay, spoiler sorry to those who haven't seen it.

(13:54):
Yeah, so if you've seen itand then just forgot about it,
like why did why do you thinkyou never got into it? Like it
was that cultural moment like for youwhy? I mean, I'm pretty sure
I probably watched it and said I'mnot into the storyline. You know,

(14:15):
I'm gonna you know, I know, right, Like it's probably a little
unfair on my part, but hey, I was fifteen years younger, you
know, I probably looked at itlike, oh, this is just a
book for a certain demographic, andI'm not in your demographic, So why
am I even watching the movies? But it's big enough where you're like,
well, everybody's talking about it,might as well check it out. Is

(14:37):
that is that fair to say thatI just didn't think I fit the demo?
I guess. Okay, did youknow anyone who was like really into
Twilight at the time, Like, was your wife ever super into it?
Or did you have any friends whowere super into it? No? Honestly,
Like, okay, so let meput you in the right frame of
mind. So back then I hadbeen out of college for a few years,

(15:01):
and I was just into sports, you know, doing my sports thing
so in Madison, So I wasreally busy with sports. I didn't really
pay attention to the things outside thattoo too much. But no, I
didn't know of anybody because I didn'tknow any you know, teenage girls at
the time. So I guess that'sfair. Yeah, that's probably good.

(15:22):
Yeah, yeah, maybe that's forthe best. Actually, yeah, when
the Twilight craze was like happening, though, I don't know, like,
what did you think of that?Because you obviously had to know about it
a little bit because like every otherlike backpack or like merch was like hanging
out in Target with their faces onit. Right, if I talk crap
like you guys aren't gonna get madat me, are you. No,

(15:43):
we talk a lot of crap aboutTwilight. Yeah, and honestly, you
know it just probably honestly, itprobably to me at that time, seemed
like a movie for young adults andor teenagers. So I've kind of felt
like, well, they're not tryingto talk to me in this movie.
So that's probably kind of the generalfeeling I had about the movie. I

(16:07):
would say, Okay, well, that's pretty much all we want to ask
you right away, but we dohave some instructions for you when you do
watch. We of course want youto take notes anything you find interesting,
weird, fringe, e. Justanything notable. We would also love you
if you had some like weird quotesthat you liked from it, or write

(16:30):
down any questions you have for usas well. Okay, what's the running
time of this movie? I thinkit's about two hours, maybe a little
under, okay. And then thelast thing that we would really love you
to do is obviously take some thoroughnotes on that baseball scene. And if
you really want to go over thetop, I think it'd be fun if

(16:52):
you did a little play by playcommentary of the baseball scene. Oh yeah,
yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, Okay, okay, all right,
let's go. Can do that easy. Two hours and two minutes.
Also, if you were to watchall of them straight together, it would
be ten hours and eight minutes.Oh my god. Cool, I know
what I'm doing with my Saturday, exactly exactly. I'm ready for that baseball

(17:15):
scene. I am so so Ilove sports scenes in movies. They's so
most most of the time, they'relike not even close to like you can
tell it's just a bunch of actorsthat are pretending to know sports. That
is so accurate. Yeah, yeah, I don't. Don't come into that

(17:36):
baseball scene with too many expectations aboutaccuracy. That's all I'll say. No,
I won't. All right, John, welcome back. It's been like
a week less than a week?Did you did you kind of like it?

(18:00):
No? You having to think aboutthat, Jesus. I mean I
didn't mind it. I didn't mindit at all. It was it captured
my attention right from the start. You know, you've got this girl going
to brand new school and you meet, You've seen all these new characters,
and it's really captured my attention rightfrom the start. And then obviously there's
the weird looks between the two.So yeah, I mean overall, and

(18:22):
then that captures your attention, ismy point, Like what's going on with
these two? But yeah, overall, yes, it was. I enjoyed
it. I would say so basedon your definition of entertainment? Was it
entertaining? Already? Forgot what Isaid? You said it was it was
like kept you engaged. Yeah exactly, yep, So yeah, I mean
I was and you know, Idon't know how much of that was because

(18:45):
it felt like obviously I needed topay attention, yeah, you know,
because I'm going to talk about it. But still no, it honestly,
it did capture my attention right away, and then it was fun to kind
of, uh, you know, see some of the silliness I think I
will call silliness, which I enjoyedas well. But yeah, so yes,
it did engage me and it didcapture my attention, and I did

(19:07):
overall enjoy it. Okay, howdid you watch the movie? Like?
Were you just alone in a room? Did you bring your wife into it?
Were you drinking a drink? Setthe scene? So this is you're
gonna I had to watch it insegments. So number one. We talked
about this earlier. It's not onI mean, it is online, but
I was I'm like, I'm notpeing three ninety nine. So I went

(19:30):
to the library and I got iton a copy of a DVD because they
didn't have the Blu ray. SoI was like, oh, perfect,
It's just like it's two thousand andeight, you know, I'm watching a
DVD, and so I thought thisis gonna be awesome. So I actually
just because of my schedule and theway it fit in. I had to
watch like twenty minutes here, tenminutes there, thirty minutes here, and

(19:52):
then last night I finished it upwith the final thirty minutes. So I
would have rather sat down with mybowl of popcorn, my twenty ounce of
mountain dew and watched it that way, but I had to watch it in
segments. Unfortunately. Yeah, whenwe were planning, and it was kind
of like, if we can't evenif we can barely have time to talk
about it, when is he gonnaactually watch? I watched it At one

(20:18):
point, I was my plan wasto sit down and watch it on Thursday
night, and then I've failed torealize that my NFL team, the Minnesota
Vikings, were playing on Thursday nightfootball. Hear Minnesota guy, sorry,
and so I was like, dangit. So I got into a system
of every time they went to commercial, I would take two or three minute

(20:38):
chunks so listen, because honestly,I thought, if I don't do this
now, I'm gone. I'm allbusy all day Friday. I'm gone Friday,
I'm gone, Saturday, I'm goneSunday. I'm like, I'm not
gonna be able to I'm gonna gethome late Sunday night. I'm not gonna
be able to watch this thing. So I try to chunk away, you
know. And no, there arethe average sporting event, like so many

(21:00):
commercials that after a while, youknow, it starts to add up.
I know. It's it's the weirdestway I've ever had to watch a movie,
this orientine. No, I'm fine, you know, I mean,
listen, I'm fine. We've allhad phones for years now, so are
My attention span is used to jumpingfrom this to that? Quite frankly,
it was just it was kind ofnormal. Yeah, yeah, all right,

(21:22):
fair enough. I will say,I don't think we've ever watched the
movie that way, So that's new. That's a new perspective, just in
like three minute chunks that was onlyfor one night, though most of them
were twenty to thirty minute chunks.Still, I don't think I've ever done
that. Were there any moments whenyou were like, wow, I wish
I could watch like like this seemsreally good, but now I gotta watch

(21:45):
the Vikings? Yeah? Yeah,I mean, honestly, the way movies
The thing I noticed is, youknow, these movies go in like these
short little segments, right, andthen you can tell, like the scene
pops up, So it actually fitin fairly well. But you know,
you don't know if you've ever watcheda movie like that? Did you guys

(22:06):
never watch? I don't know,Maybe I'm older than you. Did you
guys ever watch like movies in schoolwhere you'd have like thirty minutes at a
time and then you'd be done withthee Yeah, like thirty forty minutes maybe.
Yeah, So it's kind of thesame concept. But no, I
think it actually fit in pretty well, to be fair, because you'll watch
that movie against most scenes are onlya couple of minutes long, really,

(22:27):
yea, depending on what scene itis. Yeah, So now that you
have seen the movie, what isyour new synopsis of Twilight? Okay,
it's pretty close I think to whatI said before. So girl moves in
with her dad, new school, new friends, meets an interesting boy.

(22:49):
I don't know. He's not reallya boy. He's like hundreds of years
old, so that's weird. Thetwo she finds out he's a vampire and
then they fall in love. Theendsis oh yeah, and she almost she
gets chased by other Vampires Killer.I enjoyed the first part of the movie

(23:11):
more than like the action. Theaction to me was like, okay,
fine, I guess we got tohave something to capture everybody's attention. I
actually liked the story more of youknow, them meeting and yeah, it
doesn't really progress. Yeah, Imean I had I had some thoughts as
I was watching the movie. Asit was going on. You know,
they were all setting to Taylor Lattnercharacter. They're just setting up for the

(23:33):
other movies, right, because yeah, you never find out that he's a
wolf or whatever the heck he is. But one thing I noticed, and
I had forgotten about this, Likethe first scene he comes in and he's
got the long flowing hair, andI wrote down, so my hair pretty
much looks like Taylor Lattner's if it'snot in a thought see not in a

(23:53):
bun in a while. Yeah,it's been well. I don't like to
show that because I feel solis withit down. But that's the first thing
I'm like, oh, that's Iguess I couldna I can't pull that off.
And then I forgot. I waslike, yo, Anna Kendricks in
this as like a minor character.Yeah, I thought that was pretty cool.

(24:14):
I think that kind of is whatlike started, oh yeah, her
career, Yeah, a little bit, is it. You know? At
one point she looks at at Edwardand she's like, you know, when
they're first introducing, like right atthe start of the movie, and I
think she refers to him as gorgeous. I don't I don't know, man,
I just don't see it. Ithink he's a good looking guy,

(24:36):
but like is he is he gorgeous? So he's supposed to be gorgeous,
you know, to each their own. And John, to be fair,
like you are like a heterosexual male, So you know, are you the
best judge of that character? Idon't know, but I will say originally
the author wanted, I think ayoung Henry Cavill to play that part,

(24:57):
so you know, imagine that aswell, and I think, yeah,
I think for the time, likeEdward Colin kind of said like this bad
boy with like that kind of hair, was that was like the guy.
And you know, obviously that changesas trends change in things, but like,

(25:17):
yeah, for early two thousands, like a man with that hair who
just wore gray all the time,an extremely pale man, right, Yeah,
I know that's like when like thescrawny indie guy was just like,
yeah, it looks a little malnourished, right. I think he does a
lot of creeping, like like likehe's always just like staring at her.

(25:42):
That's the one thing that kind ofcreeped me out, Like I joed,
like I said, I enjoyed thestory, and I enjoyed, you know,
the story unfolding, but man,he did a lot of creeping.
So am I to believe then thathe actually because he admits it. I
think in the movie, like hegoes to her room and just watches her,
yeah, like every night, okay, and she's okay with it.

(26:03):
She's credits turned on, like yeah, she enjoyed it. And I was
just like he just admitted, likehe sneaks into your room without you your
knowledge, and he's staring at herall the time. I thought the stairs
were kind of creepy. Yeah,And part of it is because he can
read minds and he can't read hermind, so he gets very like obsessive

(26:26):
about that. But I'm also curioushow so obviously that's creepy and unsettling.
Did you have thoughts as a dad, specifically about their relationship or the creeping
element of it. Right, bythe way, that's a good point about
the mind reading, and that's probablywhy he's just like really focused in on
her. Well, you know, the one thing is how old is she

(26:52):
in this movie? Seventeen? Right? Okay, yep, and he's seventeen,
but he's really like almost are overone hundred six or seven. So
the maturity level that he must beat, Like that part of it as
a data was like if I foundout that my daughter was dating a hundred

(27:17):
year old dude, I'd be like, dude, what are you doing?
You know what I mean? Totally. We've had like conversations about this a
lot too of like we don't reallyknow, you know, and it's it's
mythical, but like we don't reallyknow how his mind like matures, so
we don't know if he gets stuckat seventeen or if. But you'd also

(27:38):
think like with all of those onehundred years of experience, like there'd be
some kind of maturity. So it'shard to say, but it is pretty
icky. And he's at least seenhe's seen multiple awards. Yeah, so
that will change a person, Iguess it will. That's a good.
I didn't think about like, doeshis I mean, obviously, does his
brain kind of I mean his bodystays the same, does his brain stay

(28:02):
the same or does it just continueto gain wisdom and knowledge? So that's
a good Uh. I didn't thinkabout it like that. I just kind
of thought, like, well, this is like a hundred year old dude
going after this high school girl, yeah, and creeping and sneaking into a
room, and there was a littlebit of creepiness to it. Well,
and the other thing I think thatyou learn in like the book and one

(28:23):
of the like prequels or whatever,is that he also just wants to be
around her so much so he canlike smell her and like create like an
intolerance for like the smell of her, so he doesn't kill her. I
guess that's also a thing he does. Okay, they didn't explain that in
the movie. No, Yeah, they explained that in like so for the
first book, she also wrote abook from Edwards perspective, because the first

(28:47):
books from Bella's perspective, so shewrote another book and then we learn that
there So there's too many books,John, There's far too many. It's
almost as if she wrote the book, and then she got some feedback yes,
and she's like, oh, Igotta explain this stuff. Yeah,
it's very like exposition heavy. Allright, John, I would like to

(29:08):
delve into characters specifically. What areyour overall impressions of Bella some of her
personality traits, some of her funnylittle mannerisms. Perhaps, I mean,
she does the mannerisms right when yousaid that, Like it's hard to describe,
but she's got this kind of littlehow don't even know, how would

(29:30):
you describe her mannerisms. They're they'relike they're almost like flinchy. I would
maybe say, yeah, that's agood way of putting it. They're kind
of like just little movements, likethese little tiny movements with their face and
everything like that. Like she's thatstood out to me, like right away.
It's just like all these little tome, they were like tiny movements
that makes sense. I don't knowif that makes sense. It's just like

(29:52):
a lot of baking and lip bitingand weird, like it looks like she's
going to talk, but she doesn't. Like, yes, yes, that's
a good point, Like she's goingto talk, but she doesn't. Overall,
I thought her character though, waslike I was. I was invested
into definding out you know, moreof her story and her obsession with Edward

(30:14):
and you know those two hooking up, I guess or whatever. Overall,
I wasn't annoyed by her character. She was she was fine, She was
fine. Yeah. Yeah. Ithink the thing that we eventually, I
mean through this podcast and they're seeingthe movie one hundred times and reading them
book countless times, I think likewe're now at a point where we're kind

(30:36):
of annoyed with her. Really onthe surface, she is just like an
okay character. Yeah. And itis because Sean, who read the book,
also said the same thing. Hewas like, I like Bella,
and we'd have a whole episode that'sI think our first episode that's called Isabella
Toxic, where we just like, you know, are pretty critical of her.

(30:56):
Wow. But I think part ofthat is like she narrates every book,
so then her point of view getsa little muddled and annoying. All
right, what are what are ourthoughts on Eddie? Like I said major
creeper right away. I think it'she he kind of annoyed me. And

(31:19):
I don't know why exactly that is. It's I don't know there was something
about Edward the character, Robert Pattinson'scharacter. I don't know, man,
he just he didn't sit. Hedidn't sit right with me. Did you
find him too like to brooding?Yeah? Brooding? He's kind of a

(31:40):
downer, right, Uh yeah, yeah, he's he's very like well goth,
I guess in that sense, rightmaybe, Or he's just kind of
a loner and I know he hasto be for certain reasons obviously, but
well yeah, And one of thelike fun facts about the movie is,

(32:00):
uh, specifically, Robert Pattinson almostgot fired from that movie because he was
making the character a little too likedark. They were like, you know,
his character needs a smile sometimes it'slike you know what, No,
I would totally disagree with that reallyas much as I didn't, I found
him annoying. Like I think ifhe smiled and tried to be too cute,

(32:22):
it would probably ruin the character.Yeah. I don't know what the
books say, but if he's liketrying to be all heart throbbed teen idols
at times, they'd be like,no, you're a hundred year old vampire.
Yeah. I think there was likehe like went through the book and
like highlighted parts of it that werelike, this man is so depressed and
he just like really leaned into it. He was like, what do you

(32:44):
mean you want him to smile? He never actually smiles in the book.
Okay, Well, now from thatperspective, I'm starting to like the character
more because he really probably crushed it. Then I'm curious about your thoughts on
Charlie as well, our father figure. I mean, you're a dad,
so yeah, you know I didn't. I didn't. I like the dad
surprise surprise, you know, whenwhen she leaves talks crap to him to

(33:07):
make sure that he doesn't. You'reright, it sucks, and I've kind
of I felt for him, butI liked I don't know why I liked
that he didn't that his reaction wasjust to let her go, you know,
like, and he didn't try tolike be dramatic about it. I
don't know. There's something about like, obviously something's going on with my kid.
She needs some space. She's sayingsome crap. I don't like it,

(33:30):
but she needs some space, soI'm just gonna let her do her
thing right now. But overall, like he wasn't like a he was a
good he seemed like a good dad, and so I really didn't enjoy the
Dad character. He tends to bea favorite, I think Team Charlie.
Do you have any strong feelings aboutany of the Cullens, in particular,
maybe Dad or some of the siblings. Dad seemed fair enough, like,

(33:54):
I mean in a way right, like he saved Edward's like like Edward was
Edward dying or something like that, the Spanish influences he had the uh yeah,
during the pandemic of nineteen eighteen,so you know, he saved his
life. Essentially, he saved thelife of these people around him. So,

(34:15):
like, I didn't mind him.He seemed mature, he seemed like
like he was a good leader.Who's the who's the little dude? The
little dude, the little vampire guywith like the big hairy jasper. I
don't know what's up with that?Oh really, Okay, he seemed a

(34:39):
little squirrelly. I don't know abouthim. That's yeah. Well, he's
the newest and she smells good, and I like that. I think analyzing
him and how he comes across andTwilight is interesting for how it developed in
the sequel. Interesting. Okay,No one really like pays much mind to
Jasper in the first one, No, because he doesn't have that big of

(35:00):
a big of a role. AndI think squirrely is a fun word or
his trajectory. Yeah, squirrely, that's how That's how I kind of viewed
that guy. He's like, it'sa little squirrely vampire larkins. Yeah,
he's the newest one. I kindof forget when he was changed, though,
because I know he was a CivilWar guy, but so he's been
alive for a while. But Idon't think I don't remember when he was

(35:21):
changed. But it's interesting that youtalk about the dad and how mature and
how cool he is. Did youknow he's uh, you know his body
is only like twenty three. Ohhe's supposed to be twenty three? Yes,
isn't that annoying? He looks olderthan that? Oh definitely, So
that's super cool. Yeah about Alice? Any thoughts on Alice? Oh Alice?

(35:44):
Oh no, she was solid.Alice was solid. Alice was like
she's in she understands what's going on, Like, she was very super helpful.
She would be like a great employee, too, Eager argued, a
great employee. I've never heard acharacter described as a great employee. Well,

(36:06):
because she just seemed to go alongwith everything and was like, never
come. She didn't complain, didshe? I don't think so. Yeah,
I don't think she ever complained. She just you know, we got
the goal. I'm gonna play myrole. She'd be also not only good
employee, but a good teammate.Okay, she can also see the future.
It's a really good employee. Yeah, and that's pretty that's pretty key.

(36:28):
That was a cool scene. Idid like the scene where she's like
drawing out the mirrors the players. She's just looking straight ahead like that's exactly
how I envisioned someone who could seethe future trying to sketch it out.
It's just like staring off into space. I thought that was cool. Yeah,
she's solid. We love Alice, all right. I think we should
get into the nitty gritty of themovie, uh and talk about the relationship

(36:53):
between these two characters. How areyou feeling about the relationship. Is it
is it nice? Is it good? Well? I mean they don't like
there's this and I understand it's inthe format of a movie, so you
got to move things along a littlequicker than you'd probably like to. But
like, obviously there was an attractionright away, which is fine. That

(37:13):
happens people are attracted to each otherwithout knowing each other. But I was
pretty surprised that once she found outlike he could kill her, that she
like liked it even more, youknow what I mean, that's a good
way to sum it up. Yeah, like that, that to me was
kind of strange. Like obviously therewas some tension there when he was like
kind of rude to her in classor whatever, like because she she's like,

(37:36):
what do I smell or something likethat. But then after she finds
out like, hold on, thisguy who I thought was attractive and oh
I probably you know catch looking atme is is actually like could end my
life. And then she's like,oh I gotta pursue this, you know.
So that was kind of ye,that was kind of strange. No,

(37:58):
it is a weird thing where it'salmost like her figuring out his secret
is like what makes them together, right, it brought them. She just
wants to live forever. I meanthat's the other thing. Like they've know
how what's the timeframe from when theymet to win there at the end and
everything's literally like two months so shegets there in March and then they're at

(38:19):
Prom at the end. Okay,Yeah, So after a couple of months,
she's like, Wow, she movedfast. She went from like this
guy is cute too, I'm inlove and I want to live with you
forever. Yeah, like jump timelinesof existence. Right, that was pretty
fast. In my opinion, Ithink she probably she had to do it

(38:42):
over again she she gets older, she might say, hey, let's let's
slow it down a little bit, like maybe I want to be with you
for eternity. But I'm not sureafter two months if that's the right decision.
I mean, because she was likegiving her neck up right away,
like geez. Yeah. Well, and then my question is like does Edward

(39:02):
actually like her or does he likethat he can't read her mind? And
does he like that she smells reallygood? And he kind of wants to
kill her? You know, that'sa great question because like, otherwise,
what does he like about her? It's power point because I don't I can't
tell from the movie right is basedon smell, yeah, and and and

(39:22):
the other part with the mind reading, but a big part of it is
just his physical like whatever with her, like and yeah, that's a good
point. I didn't think about itlike that. It's creepier. Yeah,
Like that's something I think about whenI think about the relationship, is like
there's never obviously it's a different kindof teen movie because it's supernatural. But

(39:45):
it's like there's no scenes of themjust like going on a date or like
laughing together. It's just like superintent, right, or bonding over something
like right, Like that's not teenromance. But then that is like what
was given to us as ten yearold as like this is oh sure,

(40:07):
yeah, so we've been impacking. That was he repulsed by her smell.
He was gonna like he every timehe smelled her, he wanted to instantly
kill her. So in that scenewhere he's kind of like he's just fighting
the urge to like yeah, becauseagain in that book, he's like thinking
about murdering the entire classroom so thathe can drink her blood. Oh damn,

(40:30):
Yeah, it's intense. Yeah,So if he goes from not liking
her to you know, just withthat intense attraction to wanting to kill her,
and then all of a sudden tolike protecting her, like she's like
the most important thing in his life. I don't Yeah, like what triggered

(40:50):
that, what made him go fromthat to like, now I just have
to protect her? I don't know. I didn't ye know, it's a
good point. I'm not sure whatthat was. No one else is allowed
to want to kill you, onlyI can. But then he doesn't want
to bite her, so ironic, and you can suck the poison out or
the allegedly I guess I didn't know. Like that was like like when she

(41:14):
got bit, I was like,oh, wait, I must have remembered
Twilight differently because she got bit. That's done. You're done. You're a
vampire. It's just gonna take awhile, however long that takes. And
I was like, oh, Imust not have realized that she actually turns
into a vampire at the end ofthe first movie. But then they come
away with this BS where you apparentlyyou can suck vampire poison out or whatever

(41:36):
the hell it is. Yeah,I guess, like, can't you do
that with snakes? Yeah? Allegedly? What did you think of that scene?
By the way, that like theYeah, that's like one of the
most intense scenes of the of themovie of cinema in cinema history. What
makes it so intense This the violence, you know, the yeah, the

(41:58):
violence of it. The song, him sucking on her arm and making that
weird face, her just screaming.Mainly the song. What was the songs?
The song by Robert Patson himself. What there's like two songs in the
movie. And he's singing the songwhile he's sucking the blood, like the
song's playing that he's singing, like, oh my god, I'd missed that.

(42:19):
I gotta go back and review thetape. It was very like I
did, like when that happens, and I think he like gashes her leg
or whatever. Obviously she her legsmessed up. I was like, dang,
this is going to be a lifelonginjury for her, you know.
And as soon as you know, she's going to be limping her whole life.
And then like she gets bit andI'm like, she's a vampire,

(42:43):
and yeah, the sucking thing wasit was kind of it was kind of
interesting, you know, like herdad's like or his dad's like, you
know, suck it out. Idon't understand why dad couldn't have done it,
because he has much more restraint thanEdward does. And he's a had
a cult professional It'd be like, hey, there's this important thing that needs

(43:05):
to happen, and I'm used todealing with human bodies and things like this,
but I know you have no experiencein the field. Why would you
do it. I think it wasa thing where he was like, Edward,
you have to be the one todecide, which is crazy because it's
like, hey, whether she livesor quote unquote dies, that's up to
you, brother. And she's standingright there, okay, what's standing well,

(43:25):
laying screaming, writhing. I thinkalso like it being a teen movie,
like you're like, oh, it'sit's fairly light. The first you
know, they're just like in love. It's intense love, but like it's
just a love story. And thenall of a sudden you're like, this
is action. This is horror.Like my mom's like should you be watching

(43:45):
this? Right? It gets prettydang violent there towards the end. In
terms of okay, so what wereour thoughts on the blue tint is that
is that when the sun hits them, now it's just the film itself,
like the cinematography of it. Ohyeah, it does have that, doesn't

(44:09):
it. There's that kind of well, I mean, I guess I didn't
really notice it. Do they putthat on there just to create this sense
of, like, I mean, obviously a lot of it's in the cloudy,
like you don't want to be brightand sunny. Girls wouldn't have a
movie with the vampires in it?Is that? The reason I guess I

(44:29):
didn't catch that is that the reasonthey do that. I think it was
just like a filmmaking choice that waskind of edgy and cool looking. Yeah,
I think it does help with likethe climate they're in and just the
vibe of you know, like theemon is. But then when you like
and you do get used to itas you watch it because the whole film

(44:50):
is that way, like you havenothing to compare it to. But then
the other movies like are significantly brighterand like there's color. Really, can
you realize, like this is afilter? That's awesome? Why did they
go away from that? Then?Well, so the first movie was actually
like an indie film, right,Yeah, and it got to Yeatwood.
Yeah. Well, and it wasthe first one was directed by Katherine Hardwick,

(45:14):
and then they switched directors after thefirst one, and so a lot
of things changed it definitely got moreHollywood, which you know, it was
a really successful movie, so ofcourse it did. But yeah, that's
the worst thought. But the storyoverall keeps it keeps it going. I
bet. Yeah, It's like eachone just has like different color to it
and by the end there's just likeit's much crisper and right. I'd love

(45:37):
to compare it, I guess tothe other films to kind of see the
difference, because I did not noticethat right away. Each movie kind of
feels like its own thing, Likeit's definitely one story, but it feels
like they're trying to, you know, have its own like theme and vibe
for each one. But like thefirst movie is definitely still pretty different.
Like even some of the like interestingcamera angles and like the tilts, and

(45:59):
like the way they approached scenes verymuch feels like less Hollywood and more kind
of more artful almost at times.Yeah, no, it sounds like a
dumb question. How did they getthat shot of them in the trees?
I'm sure that was green screened orsomething, but that was that was well
done. For two thousand and eight, I saw him like, did they

(46:20):
really they didn't put him in trees?
