Speaker 1 (00:00):
G one O five. It's the Erica Show and Dana
Wooten is in studio, President of the Clayton Chamber, which
everybody knows you. You're kind of like the queen around
there and I see you everywhere and you're doing all
the things, just really giving back to the community and
making sure people are being supported.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
I well, thank you, Eric.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
So everybody knows Dana, right, And so we have a
really cool event coming up that you guys have asked
me to be a part of it Elevate Her, and
I'm so excited. But what is Elevate Her for all
those have not heard about it?

Speaker 2 (00:26):
Okay, Elevate Her is our women's Empowerment Summit and this
is our fourth year and last year you were a
guest as a panelist, right, and you resonated so well
with the audience that we wanted to bring you back
as no pressure.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
Right.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Well, you'll be fine, You'll be great, and we're looking
forward to having you. But we usually have a theme
and last year was Unveiling the Mask. This year is
our our theme is women who are undeniable, unbreakable, and unstoppable, right,
and your story fit into that storyline that we are they.

Speaker 1 (01:01):
Wont stop us. Are strong. You ain't stopping us.

Speaker 2 (01:03):
I know it. So anyway we are. We're looking forward
to having you as a speaker, and you're gonna be
talking about thriving in a world of closed doors and
creating opportunities. Right, so just give everybody just like a
little snippet of what you may be talking about.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Well, first of all, so this is a male dominant
business and I know a lot of industries also have that.
But there's been times where you don't want to just
be a life track, right, I'm like, no, no, I'm
gonna show up front this and I'm gonna be the
main character of my own story. And so you have
to really fight and push for that. And sometimes that
could be negotiating your contract or maybe the female is
paid less, and being on top of things when you
go into those meetings, and also believing in yourself giving

(01:43):
some tibits on that. I know, for me, dressing for
success is important because it makes me feel better and
then you glow and you kind of show up in
that way when you go to these meetings. We're gonna
go over ways to fill your cup because that's how
you're showing up to the world, but also, you know,
respecting yourself and getting that risk respect from others. I
know I'm in a place now in my career where
I feel like I do have that respect, but it

(02:04):
took some time to get to that place.

Speaker 2 (02:06):
Absolutely now. I think as a woman in business, we've
all struggled with those things and coming into your own
is powerful, and we want to make sure that we
are sharing that and our experiences with everyone that's coming
to the conference.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
And not Guy Hayden, because I've had some incredible men
help guide me and be there to fight for me.
You know, obviously, by there are things that to just
be mindful of that might not be as easy are
along your journey.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
So that's true.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
It's the tidbits to get you further along.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
I know. Well, support systems are are huge. And one
of the things that I love about this conference is
I just attended two events. One was a woman's conference
and one was a leadership development retreat, and they both
talked about building your board of directors. Who sits on
your board, who's supporting you, who's telling you that you

(02:58):
need to straighten up when you need to straighten who's
encouraging you? So we all as women need to be
I think building our own boarder directors or tribes, so
to speak. You know, there might be somebody that gives
you a growth opportunity because they are strong in an
area where you might not be, and you want to
learn and grow that way. So I think Elevate Her

(03:18):
is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet like winded
minded women who share some of the same goals and
the same struggles. And so we're excited for it. April sixteenth.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
Aprill sixteenth. Where is it though, and where can they
get tickets?

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Okay? So April sixteenth is at the Clayton Center in
downtown Clayton.

Speaker 1 (03:37):
Which is so pretty.

Speaker 2 (03:38):
It is pretty. It is a wonderful old school building
that they reflourished. It's wonderful, and it's from eight am
and to one o'clock. So we've changed the way the
Elevate Her some it is this year. So we're going
to have vendors there as well. Some of our local
businesses are going to be there, and we're going to
have breakfast de mimosas and and just kind of enjoy

(04:01):
each other's company and before the summit starts.

Speaker 1 (04:04):
And I will say so. Last year was my first
year attending, and I was so excited because a lot
of the women that I've met, we stay in contact.
Like I see them, they're cheering me on, I'm cheering
them on. I'm like, Wow, she's a badass. Excuse my language,
but I'm like, there are really some fierce, fabulous women
that attend this and it's cool to collaborate and make
friends and make them a part of your tribe.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
They are they are. We also have another local speaker
as well. Her name's Tina Bailey, and she is actually
one of our launch Joco students who is a speaker
and an author and a podcaster as well, and she's
going to be talking about how to reclaim your narrative.
So I'm anxious to see what Tina has to share

(04:44):
with me. I love that. Yeah, So we structure EURS
a little differently. We don't do the breakout sessions and
go to different rooms. We just we just want to
make sure that we're all together all at one time.
And so we have our two speakers, and then we
also have a panel of women who are are talking
about owning their own journey and the power of resilience, confidence,

(05:06):
and leadership. And Melissa Overton, who was a speaker, has
been a speaker. Absolutely, she's going to be our moderator
for that. So we're very excited about the day.

Speaker 1 (05:15):
And who's the sponsor this year? Because I know that's
always a big way of making these events happen. If
it wasn't for our sponsors, we couldn't do it.

Speaker 2 (05:21):
We sure couldn't. The presenting sponsor this year is the
Jewel Box and it's a small business, local owned business
on Main Street in downtown Clayton. So yeah, we appreciate
their support.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
That's amazing. Okay, So why is it important for women
to get involved in roles like you're in, because, like
you know, everybody knows you you're giving back. But for you,
what is the importance of getting involved?

Speaker 2 (05:42):
I think the importance of getting involved is building your relationships.
You know, relationships aren't transactional, and I feel like being
part of our Chamber of Commerce or getting involved in
some way form fashion with with some organization gives you
a sense of purpose and it also connects you to

(06:02):
the resources you need to be successful in your business
or successful in your personal life and both. I really
believe that getting involved is extremely important to you. It
helps me my well being, my mental health, my spiritual health,
my physical health, and where you build networks in all
kinds of different places.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
I mean, I joined a board for a prison alliance
which is about prison reformance, faith based and I'll say, like,
I've been on the board for about a year now,
and it's so fulfilling to go out and do stuff
like this job is. But also it's just really cool. Yeah,
and not only are you giving back, but you gain
and you from your own.

Speaker 2 (06:39):
Heart exactly, you're involved exactly. Well, I'm a rotarian and
I absolutely love being a rotarian. I love the service
above self is our motto and I try to live
that every day. Also belong to a gym where I
need to release all the stress and feed myself physically,
you know. So yeah, it's I don't know. Sometimes we

(07:01):
can work in a silo and not be connected, and
I think connections are very important.

Speaker 1 (07:06):
Well, thank you for coming in. I'm excited to see
you on the sixteenth. Tell us the website one more time.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
It's www. Clayton Chamber dot com and just go click
on events and click on elevator and register.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
So and if you forget go to my Instagram. It's
on there and it'll direct you to elevate her.

Speaker 2 (07:24):
Absolutely, we've got Facebook two as you can go on
the Clayton Chamber Facebook page and it's on there as well,
so we'd love to see everybody there
