(00:25):
confused with a passive in hospital.Yes, we get confused with passive in
hospital. There's a nursing home alsoin Zeleeanople that we get confused with.
We're not affiliated with either of thoseorganizations, all right, so what are
you all about that? So ourorganization is centered around promoting choice and independence
for individuals with intellectual disabilities, autism, and behavioral health needs. For people
who aren't too familiar with those kindof terms, it's kind of a group
(00:48):
home, right, yeah, andso they've we've moved away from the larger
sort of establishments for providing support toindividuals with intellectual disabilities. So it's a
community residential home just like anybody else'shome in your community, where your neighbors,
you know, and so it's reallyproviding that support within the home to
ensure the individuals can live a lifewith choice and independence, that they're able
(01:11):
to be dependence is very very important. I agree, I agree. So
how many how many locations do youhave in Pittsburgh. We have about one
hundred and fifty locations across western Pennsylvania, so we're all just a few.
Yeah, you're brand new with justa few homes. So the reason why
you came here this morning is thatyou're looking to recruit. You're looking for
(01:36):
employees, and I'm am I wrongthat you probably are looking for a particular
kind of individual, somebody who haskind of a maybe a calling, or
somebody who's who's sensitive to somebody withdisabilities exactly. Yeah, we're looking for
people with compassion. That's our onemajor job requirements is you have to have
compassion and you have to be ableto have patients to support our individuals.
(01:57):
Many of them are nonverbal, soyou've got to really understand the individual,
understand what they're looking for, andunderstand queues that they provide to be able
to provide support and you know, promote that choice and independence patients. You
need somebody with a certain amount ofpatients and understanding empathy. All right.
So if somebody is interested in maybelooking at some of the job opportunities that
(02:21):

That's correct, all right. Sowe we talked a little bit about
passivent memorial homes and how many youknow, homes you have in the Pittsburgh
areat You're looking for people to fillcertain positions. What kind of positions are
you looking to fill? Yes,we are looking to fill direct support professional
positions. What is that? Whatis So as a direct support professional,

you're assisting with medication administration, You'reworking with the individual to help them dress,
bathe, all of those aspects ofjust their life, their day to
day activities of daily living. You'resupporting them through that. And what kind
of requirements do you do you need? Do you need somebody with any kind
(03:27):
of schooling, high school diploma? What is that? Yeah, So our
positions we have it's pretty open.We don't even require a high school degree
because we want to make sure thisjob is about caring for others. So
if you have that care and compassion, you can start with our organization.
I will say we do offer atwo week comprehensive orientation that will provide you
with the skills that you need forthis position. So we do provide that
(03:50):
training and support to make sure thatyou're successful in your position and your role.
All Right, somebody's interested in aposition, what do you recommend and
what else should they what else dothey need to know? I think really
a lot of people. This translatesvery well for a lot of people.
So if you've taken care of kids, you've taken care of loved ones,
it's a lot of the same things. The level just having folks with intellectual
(04:13):
disabilities, it's just a different typeof aspect that you need to understand and
learn how to work with that individualand make sure that they're successful and make
sure that they have all they needto be successful in their lives. Can
you give me an example of whatthey might do on a data basis,
from like getting somebody up in themorning all the way through the evening.
Yeah, yeah, exactly. Soyou know, waking up in the morning,
(04:33):
getting the individual's breakfast, helping themshower, getting them dressed and ready
for the day. It depends forthe individual, depending on their abilities.
They sometimes go to their job dayprogram activities, or just getting out in
the community to do engaging activities andget them to meet others in the community.
So really it's about assisting that individualand making sure that they're supported and
(04:59):
having to well, I know, passive at Memorial Homes stresses independence, but
there are going to be certain levelsof that independent independence, so you might
have to there may be certain individualsyou might have to assist quite a bit.
In somebody maybe not so much exactly. Yeah, it's it's a wide
range. We have a wide rangeof people we support from children through seniors
(05:19):
and all varied medical and behavioral needs. So it's really about just learning that
individual and their unique preferences and theirwants and desires in their life. So
if you need more information, thewebsite is p m h f O s
dot org. That's p m hf os dot org. And once you
go to the website, where dothey go after that? Yeah, our

love somebody with passion, patience, has a caring mentality, and really just
(06:28):
an optimistic person that can support theindividuals and make sure that you know they're
well supported. But also you haveto have some attention to detail for this
job because you are completing all ofthe documentation, health records, you're administering
medication, so you really need tobe understanding of all of those and understanding
of how important they are to thoseindividuals and do those as to the best
(06:48):
of your abilities. Now, youmentioned you don't you don't need any college

you're able to pick a shift thatmeets your unique needs. You know,
(07:10):
we have regular shifts that are overnight, daylight kind of those afternoon shifts as
well, but we also offer blockshifts, which are basically you're at the
residence for two and a half days. You complete your shifts full forty hours
of work in those two and ahalf days, but you're actually staying at
the residence. You clock out,and if there's any type of emergency or
any needs that may happen while you'rethere, you would clock in and be
(07:33):
paid for that time. But otherwiseyou can sleep and use that time to
just stay at the residence. Butyou basically complete your full forty hours of
