Speaker 1 (00:00):
And a happy Wednesday. Friend. Welcome to the Thought Shower. Intern.
John is my name.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
I did something a little naughty, allegedly, we'll say allegedly.
So later on this evening, your boy takes off for
London with my father, the Professor, very excited for that. However,
trash Day in my neighborhood allegedly is Thursday, and I
had some leftover food that if I left it out
(00:29):
today like outside, animals would for sure get to if
I leave it inside of my fridge, It's gonna smell
a shrimp, by the way, So that's tell you right there.
So allegedly I may have brought the trash bag to
the radio station and thrown it out in the trash
can in the parking garage. Allegedly, it's hard to say
(00:52):
I made that mistake before you leave something in the
fridge and realize just how porous your fridge is. I'll
say this though. My parents were here for jingle Ball
this past year, so that was in December, and I
was leaving after jingle Ball for a vacation and then
from vacation to their house in Nashville. So I was
gonna be gone for two weeks and like we're gonna
(01:12):
miss the trash day a window. What we did was
put stuff in the freezer and that was kind of
a genius way to do it. So that way nothing
smelled bad and when I got back, I could like, wait,
take it out, put in the trash.
Speaker 1 (01:25):
Good to go.
Speaker 2 (01:27):
This is not meant to be a trash podcast today
How to put your trash away with intern John. Now
that is not the vibe. But very excited. So today
got kind of a full day of you know, work
and doing the show and all that stuff. But then
gonna be going to the airport. It's kind of a
hard window flights at ten forty pm, but the window
(01:48):
of like what time do I want to get there?
Flying out of Dulles excuse me? And that's like just
far away. So it's like what time do I leave?
My dad lands at three from Nashville Mike to see him,
but like I don't want way at the airport for
seven hours. Also have other things to do. I got
working stuff to do, so land in London with land
(02:09):
tomorrow at eleven am. My goals hopefully pass out on
the flight, that's the goal. And then Friday gotta go
to the radio station in London has some meetings.
Speaker 1 (02:19):
Very excited about that.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
We're doing a Winston Churchill tour on Saturday, gonna be
going to the Manchester United soccer match on Sunday, then
First Control, then we fly to Milan. And Milan I'm
very excited for because I mentioned this, that's where we're
gonna see what they film Star Wars. So I'm very
excited for all this. I mentioned too. I'm excited for
(02:42):
Manchester because I like old stadiums, Like I think that's
one of the coolest things ever is when you see
an arena or a stadium that's full of history. Like
the first time I saw Madison Square Garden it was
kind of like an emotional thing. First time seeing Fenway
emotional first. I'm seeing Wrigley Field, kind of places where
(03:02):
it's like, I don't know, I don't necessarily believe. Maybe
I do, like buildings can have energy, and maybe I
do believe that, but it is something cool about seeing,
you know, the house that basically built English soccer. So
I'm very excited for that and the travel with my dattitude,
it's a lot of fun. So Father Son Duo in action.
(03:23):
Next Friday, voting ends for the Baltimore Suns Best of
Baltimore issue. I'm up for radio host Theater as his sauce.
I'll say this, vote for Sauce please. It'd be really
cool for Sauce to win. Hometown Girl, her hometown paper.
Now my podcast, this podcast, The Thought Showers also up.
I'm also up for best DJ, Best Social Media Account.
(03:44):
The station's up for best Station. If you get a
chance to vote, vote yms dot com. That's vote yms
dot com. Let me get to this for your Wednesday.
The things modern culture has normalized but are actually disturbing
right off the bat, the glorification of hustle culture. They
say it's everywhere, from Instagram influencers, the business muggles.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
You've heard it.
Speaker 2 (04:06):
Work hard, play hard, sleep when you're dead. They say
burnout is a legitimate syndrome.
Speaker 1 (04:10):
I am in.
Speaker 2 (04:13):
The middle on this, and that's also like the work
life balance. I think the idea of that sounds great.
It does right. Everything's balanced. It's like severance, You're balanced.
Everything's good. However, if I I always want to do
my own radio show, That's been my goal since I
(04:35):
was seventeen. I've also wanted to do other projects like
coach hockey like comedy, like the podcast, and if I
had a work life balance, the show wouldn't have happened.
This is the reality of it. Yeah, so I do
think like the idea is nice. Again, I'm not saying
(04:55):
you can't find it. In my travels. I have found like, yeah,
he kind of I got to sacrifice that balance a
little bit if you want to be calling the shots.
I guess if that makes sense. And I'm not saying
it's right. I don't think. I mean butterfly effect. Right,
if I could go back and do things more with
the work life balance, would I be in the same
(05:16):
spot the odds would say no. Right, That's just kind
of like, now, what the odds all this happened? Which
is one of those crazy things. Dude to mention this before.
It's like the odds of being born old on odds
of being born is one in four hundred trillion. Okay,
to be born, you have how many grandparents? Hold on,
(05:43):
I saw this somewhere that's not I wanted to see this,
says four grandparents. Well, yeah, but I saw something where
it's like, oh, wait, you need uh nor to be born?
You need two parents, four grandparents, eight great grandparents sixteen,
second great grandparent parents thirty two great grandparents thirty two,
(06:04):
third great grandparents with great great sixty four, fourth great
grandparents one hundred and twenty eight fifth great grandparents, which
is kind of crazy. It goes on on on, and
I guess what I'm saying is like, this podcast is
going different direction.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Do I believe things happen for a reason? Yes? I do. Uh.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
I look at my life and it's like, what are
the odds I wound up in DC. Well, in order
for that to happen, just me, I had to be born, obviously,
But let's go back.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
My parents have me born?
Speaker 2 (06:37):
Well, my dad was born in Rhode Island, my mom
was born in Minnesota, So what are the odds that
their relatives came over? My dad's relative stopped in Island,
my parent, my moms went to Minnesota. Okay, my dad
goes to Vietnam at eighteen, comes back alive. That's where
of the odds, and that moves to Wisconsin, moves to Minnesota,
meets my mom. They're friends for like seven years and
(06:59):
then they date, so they get married. The odds of
me being born and then it's like I happened to
apply for the radio job in Minneapolis, happened to apply
for the job in Des Moines, and then all those
kind of things had to happen right for me to
get here where it's like, it's not all by chance.
I don't even know where I'm going with this, but
I thought about the other day. I'm like, God, it's
(07:21):
been crazy because for me, it'll be thirteen years here
in October, and it's like, what are the odds all
this happened? And I always say too, if you told
me everything that's gonna happen when I took this job,
I wouldn't have believed it. And also I'm not too
sure what part of it would be the most believable,
Like if you were telling me that I would either
(07:44):
be running the show, there'd be a global pandemic, I'd
have a number one comedy album, or somebody would hang
intern John on pregnant banners over the DMV. I don't
know which one of those seems the most realistic.
Speaker 1 (07:58):
You know what I mean?
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I don't, but I'm here, We're doing it. I'm excited
for this week. It's gonna be a fun one as well.
But yeah, I'm sorry I went off and not a tangent.
But again I also understand too, like I have like
three hundred Underrund texts, and that's not a good thing.
Speaker 1 (08:15):
I do do too much.
Speaker 2 (08:18):
However, Like for me right now, I don't necessarily need
that life balance because there's nobody to balance it for,
if that makes sense. So for me, it's like we're going,
we're grinding, We're gonna try and do as many things
as we can, to grow as much as we can
and to make this thing as big as we can.
That's kind of like the goal, which is why I'm
(08:39):
excited for the comedy shows June twentieth. June twenty first
the Arlington Draft House. You can get dinner, you can
get the show as well. Tickets started a fifteen bucks
benefit the Warrior Canine Connection. It means a lot to me.
This is the most important show in my life. It
just say is if you get a chance to get tickets.
