Speaker 1 (00:00):
Addition to the program starts right now, and I got
in here a couple of minutes late. Oh boy, oh boy,
I'm rushing, rushing to get everything just exactly.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
So.
Speaker 1 (00:10):
I had a lot going on this morning, and I
had to Actually I got in here earlier than I
usually do. That was good, But then I got to
look at all the things I want to talk about
today and realize that it's going to be very hard
to get all that sugar in one sack.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
So much going on.
Speaker 1 (00:29):
First of all, we're dealing with wildfires, and pardon me,
in Texas, and that's never good. I don't care where
wildfires are. Wherever they are, and you'd be surprised. There
are websites out there where you can just type in
a state and type in wildfires, and I'm pretty sure
(00:50):
that every state has a similar sight. And each time
I've done that and punched in Texas, seems like there
are more fires going going on. Then we realize a
lot of them don't even make the news apparently, and
I'm not talking about major giant things like happened to
(01:10):
Los Angeles and Hawaii. And then there's some big ones
over in the Carolina's even more recently, and then our
fire is here, of course, but there are lots of
smaller fires that pop up all over the state, all
over every state, and it really is eye opening to
see how often that happens at least, and I don't
(01:32):
know what the minimum size of a wildfire has to
be to make that map or to draw attention of
local news, but any wildfire is a bad wildfire.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
That's kind of the way I look at it. There's just.
Speaker 1 (01:50):
I feel that's one of the things that scares me most,
probably not for where I live, but just for humanity
in general. I cannot imagine being rousted from a deep
sleep by a policeman's flashlight banging on my front door
telling me that we have to leave. My whole family
(02:12):
has to get out of the house in two minutes
because there's a wildfire down the street and it's headed
our way. That would I think that that might scare
me more than water. Where most of us live. If
the water rises, we can kind of rise with it.
We can move from the first floor to the second floor,
(02:34):
we can move from the first floor to the roof,
or somehow, some way. The water is probably not going
to consume us.
Speaker 3 (02:44):
I would hope.
Speaker 1 (02:45):
And now there are exceptions to all of that, of course,
and they're devastating when any of them happens.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
But I would rather.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
I would rather take my chances with water than fire,
I really would. I just don't see any I don't
see any out really, although we do see stories, the
animals seem to have ways of figuring it out, or
just maybe the ones that I've seen a couple of
stories after most of these fires about an animal that
(03:17):
suddenly showed up a month There was a one out
the California fires. There was a cat that showed up
two months after it was just presumed dead when the
entire neighborhood in which it lived just got turned to ash,
and all of a sudden, this cat just appears out
of nowhere and identifiable, and the owner there were pictures
(03:41):
posted of it around town, and I think it even
might have made the local news out there. And the
owner of that cat stepped forward and said, yeah, you know,
here's a picture of my house burnt to the ground.
Here's a picture of the cat in the house before
it burnt to the ground.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
We didn't know what happened to the cat.
Speaker 1 (03:58):
We just crossed our fingers and set a prayer, and
darn it, that cat didn't show up two months two
months later, crazy stuff seven one three two one two
five seven ninety Email me Dugpike at iHeartMedia dot com.
Speaker 3 (04:12):
The good news for these.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Fires we're having around here locally and currently is that well,
first of all, most of them are under control, are
close to it. And secondly, we've got moister air coming
off the Gulf of Mexico. And air's air, you might think,
and fires can burn in moist air or dry air,
(04:34):
but that dry stuff sure makes it harder for the
firefighters to put everything out. It's sure is tough when
the wind's blowing hard as it has been for a
few days. The values are down considerably this morning, down
into the into the single digits. Where did I put
my little mouse there?
Speaker 4 (04:53):
It is?
Speaker 3 (04:53):
Let me move all these.
Speaker 1 (04:54):
We have more remote controls and keyboards and monitors in
here than I think are necessary, but they're here. The
other highest wind we've got right now, just snapshot of
where we are is it appears to be ten miles
an hour, and that is at Rosenberg. I'll take that
back there as at fourteen fourteen at Rice University out
(05:17):
of somebody must have a fan turned on or something.
Otherwise it's single digits until you get all the way
over to Texas Point, which is right over there by
Louisiana border, and then even offshore it's pretty light. There
are a couple of elevens a little farther down south,
(05:37):
more off Matta Gorda than off Galveston, but the rest
of it and the inland stuff is good as well,
except for that anomaly at Rice University. Everything single digits
basically until you get way down south, and there's even
not much there, so that's a long way to go
to get nothing out of the sack of wind that
(05:59):
we're dealing with.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Be a nice, calm day.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
There was some talk about potential higher winds this afternoon,
which is that's normal this time of year, normal almost
every time of year around here. But it's not going
to be so bad for these fires because it is
coming off the Gulf of Mexico and that does carry
moisture into the air, and that moisture it.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Doesn't prohibit fire.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
It just inhibits fire, keeps things a little bit more
manageable for these people who are out there doing that.
There is so much going on I've got two pages
of cool stuff to talk about today, plus whatever you
guys come up with that you want to talk about.
If there's a subject on your mind, feel free to
bring it up. One of the things that's going on
(06:45):
and going in full steam, at full steam ahead right
now is bass fishing, and I've actually been doing a
little bit. I'm gonna be kind of modifying and moving
and shaking here, trying to get a couple of things
out of this folder while I talk. See if I
can manage somehow to Oh no, I'm not doing a
very good job of multitasking. I apologize to throw that
(07:06):
stuff down. Not worry about it. Bass fishing is what
I wanted to talk about next, and there's a lot
of it going on. In fact, there's some big time
bass fishing going on just up the.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
Road at Lake Ray Roberts Dear fort Worth.
Speaker 1 (07:20):
Day one leaderboard from the bass Master Classic. That's fifty
four of the best fishermen in these United States. They
are really really good at what they do and proving
that out of those fifty four, only I think it
was three of them. Maybe let me see hold on one, two, three, four, Ken,
(07:42):
I'm looking for my note where yeah, three of whom
have not yet put a fish on the board or
did not on day one.
Speaker 3 (07:48):
They go out for day two.
Speaker 1 (07:50):
I think they may have just gone at the same
time we came on the air. But out they go
for day two of the bass Master Classic. Up there,
I named Trey McKinney is leading. Oh gone it?
Speaker 3 (08:03):
What happened here?
Speaker 1 (08:04):
Hold on, let me get this bass Master leader board
up because what I had I thought I had copied
and pasted not only the top five contestants so far,
but their weights, their fishweight and no lo and behold
it only printed out the name Trey McKinny is leading.
(08:24):
That's the bottom line. His five fish sack from yesterday.
Wadhe twenty six' nine and right behind Him Corey johnston
five fish twenty five, nine and then Easton Father gil
twenty four point fifteen for his five. Jay, oh, MAN
(08:49):
i can't pronounce this. Name you want to help me
with a? Seven you, Ready i'll spell. It i'll spell.
It you pronounced.
Speaker 3 (08:56):
It p R Z e K u are a. HE
i feel like half of the work letters in there are.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
Silence they're gonna have to be, yeah otherwise you just
twist your tongue into a. Pretzel, Yeah i'd love to
know that man's last. Name faux Pro if you're, listening
tell me how to pronounce his, name faux.
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Prol, no don't. Worry, uh he's.
Speaker 1 (09:16):
Got twenty three seven for his five, fish and lee live,
say twenty three pounds even for his five that's pretty.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
Solid, actually those Are those are good.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Numbers when you've got an average of better than five,
pounds that's that's good. Numbers and that just tells me
that that it.
Speaker 3 (09:33):
Was not with it WAS i was.
Speaker 1 (09:37):
Expected WHEN i went fishing yesterday, AFTERNOON i couldn't help.
MYSELF i went out with a friend with my Buddy
daniel On thursday, afternoon and we Did, okay we actually,
did and we somehow stumbled onto a more a greater
variety of fish THAN i did. Yesterday we stood out
(09:58):
there at The Little lake Golf Course lakeside fish and
managed to catch it's almost like The Five days Of
christmas or. WHATEVER i think we had four or, five,
no four, BASS i think total between. Us we had two,
Catfish we had one crappie and one fresh water drum
and totally un that croppy ate a crank bait that
(10:25):
would be be big enough to attract a king. Mackerel
That daniel was. Throwing it was a significantly sized. CRANKY
i was kind of surprised WHEN i, LOOKED i saw the,
flash and we had just caught two catfish from the same,
spot also both on, lures AND i thought for sure
that that's That daniel had finally caught a bass out
(10:45):
of this little, spot BECAUSE i saw just that flash
underwater with the color and lo and behold it was
a croppy and a pretty dog one nice one too
THAT i was very surprised at that that little fish
with that soft little mouth of its went after that
big old, bait but it. Did they're hungry in, there
(11:05):
AND i think that's partly because cormorants keep eating up
all their. Food there's another little SHADTHATCH i saw JUST i,
mean we're talking like fry almost they are. Not they
just look like it looks like somebody's throwing silver glitter
into the. Water and when you see, them they're not
even big enough to recognize as as fish.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yet and so probably in.
Speaker 1 (11:29):
About three four, WEEKS i don't know exactly how long
there'll be an issue THAT i have to go deal
with out there and just, muh here's faux pro Weighing in's? That,
yeah faux, PRO i think there may be let me
see what this email, says because there may be fire
closer to. Him, yeah faux pro went To fireweather avalanche dot,
(11:52):
org slash, fire slash state Slash texas and he just
as as my experience, was SAYS i was a bit
surprised to see all the fire's exclamation mark, point especially
In texas, alone when you zoom. In there's stuff burning
all over this country of, ours more often than you,
(12:15):
realize because a lot of them are relatively small and
localized and don't make the.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
News but fire has been going.
Speaker 1 (12:23):
On fire is nature's way of sweeping out the. Trash,
basically it clears underbrush so that more more valuable plants
to the animals and other things that live around. There
it gets out all the, trash and everything that comes
back is something nice and healthy and. Strong And i've
(12:45):
seen up in the, Mountains i've seen areas that were
ravaged by fire thirty forty fifty years. Ago the old the,
stalks or not the, stalks but the trunks of trees
are just still standing and everything else is just burnt
to the. Ground it comes. Back, eventually it comes, back
(13:08):
which it always. Will all, right we got to take
a little break here on the way. OUT i will
tell you About Brazos River Provisions. Company that's the jams
and jellies, folks, jams jellies and sauces made By Mike
mercado and his staff down there In, rosenberg and they
are happy to have you come by and take a
look at what they do and how they do. It
(13:29):
you can buy some stuff right there from, them or
you can get online and you can shop for your
jams and jellies and sauces at their, website which is
very easy to. Navigate and if you're really wondering what
to buy because you have certain, tastes then call down
there and talk to somebody and ask them to help
(13:50):
you figure out exactly what's going to go best with
your pork, shops or best with your, omelets or best
with just best on a piece of toast or maybe
on a corn. Chip they have. Ideas they can help
you make selections because they MAKE i want to say
it's four or five dozen different varieties of, jams jellys and,
sauces but they do know that there's a reason they
(14:13):
make every one of, them because every one of them
pairs best with something. Else, JOKINGLY i Asked Mike, mercado
the guy who owns the, place a couple of about
two months, ago to see if he could come up
with something for the the amateur bass pros that will
not that's, oxymoronic the aspiring bass professionals who are living
(14:35):
out of their trucks and dragging their boats to tournaments
all over trying to make a name for.
Speaker 3 (14:39):
THEMSELVES i asked him to come up with something.
Speaker 1 (14:41):
That would pair well with With vienna sausage and pop,
tarts and darned if he didn't bring me a couple
of jars that had in sharpie now written on Top
vienna sausage and pop.
Speaker 3 (14:55):
Tarts something for.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
Every occasion and every occasion that which you use something
From Brass River Provisions company is going to be made
better for having that product. There B Our provisions Dot
com is the website there at one Thousand Wilson road
down In. Rosenberg B Our provisions Dot. Com thank this,

to get. Him you're gonna have to click him in for.
Me thank, You.
Speaker 3 (15:34):
Evan what's up folk?
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Pro?
Speaker 5 (15:37):
Man it's too early For english.
Speaker 1 (15:39):
CLASS i ain't had my coffee. Yet how do you
pronounce that guy's?
Speaker 4 (15:45):
Name?
Speaker 5 (15:45):
Man, well you, know if you take off the first two,
letters it's se.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Curate, Okay i'll. Go you use from.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
Ten the first two letters don't. Matter this is a
curic and then, lee Then lee is lee. Libasy oh?
Okay well the local boat you, Know Todd castle done
had a big little video on him, yesterday kind of
root for him to win it the way you AND
i would fish it versus the way the guy that's winning. Fish.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
Yeah what what is the Bass Master classics rule On
livescope fair?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
Game it's only only rule Bass master has is there's
a specific number of inches of screen they can have
on their. Boat once they reached that, limit they can't
have any. More so they could have a thirty six
cent screen on the, front but then they only HAVE x.
AMOUNT i think they're only allowed AND i want to
say it's fifty five inches of screen they're allowed on the.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Boat, golly and.
Speaker 5 (16:44):
They're only and they're only allowed one. Transducer some of
the guys had three or four so they could see
three hundred and sixty degrees in real. Time BUT i
think it's one transducer AND i want to say fifty five.
Inches somebody can correct me on.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
That, wow that's just it's almost like going to the
drive in, movies isn't.
Speaker 6 (16:58):
It oh, man it's.
Speaker 5 (17:00):
Crazy and some of them guys got you, know they
got twenty four inch screens up.
Speaker 1 (17:03):
There it's, like oh, crap, yeah it's well. Yeah and
one of the, reasons of, course is and it makes,
sense is that they're sponsored by somebody who's giving them
all of, that and it just it just makes it
so much harder for anybody to break into the. Sport.
Now it'd be like in say in, golf for, example
(17:24):
if there were some twenty thousand dollars clubs that never
hit a bad, shot, well that'd be great for the
guys who were being given twenty thousand dollars clubs because
they they're wearing the shirt and they got the patch
on the, cap and then their, cars track, trucks wrapped
in it and. Whatnot but for the rest of, us
we'd still be shanking them into the. Trees we can't afford.
(17:46):
That oh, yeah even with the system like mine on my.
Speaker 5 (17:49):
Boat my front twelve inches unit is a manual unit where,
yes you stuff to use the knobs and the.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Buttons it's not a.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
Touchscreen. Yeah having that with THE lvs thirty four, box
which is it was, BOX i, mean just to have
those two, items and you gotta have batteries to run,
it you. Know i'd run the two little small motorcycle
type lithium batteries THAT i could keep up, front AND
i have a whole separate independent power station just for life.
Speaker 1 (18:12):
Scope oh my.
Speaker 5 (18:13):
Word so you put all that, TOGETHER i mean you.
Can't you can't get into it for probably less than
four thousand. DOLLARS i just don't see a way to you,
know high, threes low, fours just to get into the base.
Model you, know that's a lot of money for. Us for, Us,
yeah we got to work for, it you.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
KNOW i would, say, yeah when it's coming out of your,
pocket anything's.
Speaker 7 (18:34):
A lot of.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
Money that's. Crazy so not to brag or, anything BUT
i did send to that picture of that one.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
Fish that was my Best that was the best, one.
Speaker 1 (18:42):
And that was that was that was, nice serious it
was and.
Speaker 3 (18:45):
Every one of those fish were within five yards of the.
Speaker 1 (18:48):
Bank it was, YEAH i mean that JUST i gave
up years ago when these lakes were up at full
pool and and blowing and going clear water and tons
of pre b we'll call IT bc before, Cormorants, okay
many years, ago you, know like ten YEARS. Bc it
(19:08):
was just you couldn't throw a rock without hitting a
bas there were that many fish in. There it was so.
Far it was a great place to bring my son
into it because he never got.
Speaker 3 (19:16):
Bored he kept catching.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
Fish but and THEN i went through that horrible dry
spell early back through winter WHERE i couldn't catch a
fish at all in. THERE i thought they'd pretty much
wiped it. Out But i'm finding out that there there
are still some good fish left in. There and my
Buddy daniel On thursday actually caught one that was about
a foot, Long so that may be that may be
the one that the cormorants missed in their in their.
(19:39):
Class hopefully all on chatter baits.
Speaker 4 (19:43):
Too.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
MAN i threw some other, stuff but EVERYTHING i caught,
YESTERDAY i caught on chatter. Baits to see you start
calling me, Chatterbait, Charlie, Man i'm all up in it.
Speaker 5 (19:51):
There that's funny that you say that, too BECAUSE i,
was you, know listening to todcast THAT i like. Say
he's a big kind of local. Prof anybody's ever heard of.
Him it's easy to look. Up but he was talking
about the classic and forward facing. CENTER i hope it's one,
traditionally he. Said, yeah these young kid forward facing, center
they don't know how to get up there in the
shallows and figure it. Out, yeah but he, said he,
said anybody can drag a chatter bait around and catch a.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
Fish WELL i prove.
Speaker 5 (20:15):
That but it's that good of bait though. Me, yeah
is you don't know what to throw it to get
your chatter bait To cinco and go to, work you
know pretty.
Speaker 1 (20:23):
Much Yet, yeah honest to, GOD i had never really
been a fan of chatter. Baits and the only REASON
i threw. ONE i may have mentioned this last. Week,
uh several weeks. AGO i ran into this young man
who lives kind of in the neighborhood off the golf,
course AND i DON'T i don't run them out of.
There they're they're very careful with the. Fish they don't
tear them. Up and, ANYWAY i saw him and he
(20:46):
had a buddy with, him AND i just asked.
Speaker 3 (20:48):
HIM i, said how you doing this?
Speaker 1 (20:50):
Afternoon he, said, Well i've only caught, one but my
friends caught.
Speaker 3 (20:54):
Four said, really what's he?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
Throwing he's throwing a chatter Bait like, okay and In, rome,
manna go get me A roman chatter bait and get after.
It now What i'm.
Speaker 5 (21:05):
Gonna help you too on the chatter bay to get
you something you familiar, With like the beaver style lures
a lot of people flip LIKE i throw the reaction
reaction innovation sweep.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Beaver.
Speaker 5 (21:13):
Yeah but if you take a beaver and thread it
on that chatter bait, hook you, know, sideways. Horizontal the
flatness of that chatter. Bait if the flatness of that,
beaver if you keep it, running it'll come over a
lot of. Wood oh, yeah the flat it won't let
it turn over like it. Does and, like, OKAY i
didn't think about. It but if you throw it open,
hook it's like it's like you, know it's like throwing
(21:35):
the old h and ah spinner bait pretty.
Speaker 3 (21:36):
Much, yeah, YEAH i.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
GOT i hung it once yesterday AND i, was, oh,
MAN i was so, worried AND i was on kind
of there WAS i was down in a low part
when a little spill way comes out and there's a
high bank on both sides of that. Thing and this
darn thing hung up about maybe eight ten yards up
the bank from, me and it just wasn't.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
Budging AND i.
Speaker 1 (21:58):
Had to free spool that and walk back about ten,
yards walk up the hill and then over about fifteen
yards to get a totally different angle on that.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Thing AND i finally shook it.
Speaker 1 (22:11):
Loose BUT i was so SCARED i was gonna lose that, bait,
man because that's the only ONE i had in the.
BAG i just didn't.
Speaker 6 (22:17):
Wait out, there alligator and get.
Speaker 1 (22:18):
IT i might you know, There, yeah that one big
alligator in. THERE i don't want any part of. Him
he was out there. Yesterday he AND i made an.
Agreement i'm not going to bother. Him he's not gonna bother.
Me IF i can find a dead corner And i'll
throw one to.
Speaker 5 (22:32):
HIM i look my way to, work go, Ahead i'll,
SAY i, Look i'll look see if the biggest wildfire
around me is west of you, know AND i say
biggest relative right compared To, California but it's just west Of.
CORGAN i got to, UNFORTUNATELY i gotta go to work
today for a few hours of.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Cover but that's Why i'm not on the.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
Lake BUT i think just in my area within an
hour at, me there's twenty two could in a seven
hundred and fifty eight total in the.
Speaker 1 (22:58):
Country so, yeah you just you don't realize all that's
going on around you because it's not going on around.
Us you, know if it if the one comes down my,
street that's gonna get my. Attention and, yeah that's. PROBABLY
i would like to live out that in a more
rural area and have a little more elbow. ROOM i really,
Would but UNTIL i can either hit the lottery or
(23:19):
retire or something like, THAT i might have to just
chill WHERE i am.
Speaker 3 (23:22):
Go, yes all, Right, Pardy well it's good to hear from.
Speaker 2 (23:25):
You.
Speaker 1 (23:25):
Man who's, so who's gonna win? This who's gonna win
this Bast Master? Classic AND i.
Speaker 5 (23:30):
Don't care who wins as long as they're winning. It
fishing the dirt and fishing fishing traditional.
Speaker 8 (23:36):
Like, Say Lee live, say it's kind of a local.
Hero he's actually a big tongue guy.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
On the lake.
Speaker 2 (23:41):
Fork.
Speaker 5 (23:41):
Yeah but uh But i'm hoping somebody you know out
there that understands fishing this time of the year goes
out there and somebody Like Greg hackney is my. Favorite
i'm ways room For Greg. Hackney So i'm. Okay his
fish are supposed to move up to him. Today So
i'll be tuning in here in a few minutes and
check it.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
Out so what about the top ten or? So how
many of them are our fishing?
Speaker 5 (24:00):
Scope i'm thinking and top ten right, now it's probably
it's probably six or seven of, THEM i would, say
in the top. Ten And i'm puresque away it's gonna
wrap up at the end of the.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
Day so so the the guys who are still fishing
traditionals still have a, chance don't.
Speaker 5 (24:16):
They, yeah ch especially on that lake because because you
can you, know he can come along the right bank
or they're spawning and you could hit five or six you,
know fish over five pounds and thirty minutes if you
hit the right. Thing but it's Like Castle iron, said you,
KNOW i.
Speaker 1 (24:30):

Else there were a bunch of dignitaries. There Nolan ryan was.
There he was on The parks And Wildlife commission, then
(25:33):
and it was a big deal to open that place,
up and it's still a big, deal and it is
still the biggest non military shooting facility in all Of.
Texas man named Ed riggie owns it right. Now he's

i'm just taking a quick look now and make sure
there are no catastrophes or. Calamities kevin's got something in.
Here let's. See oh, man that's not that's pretty. Rough
kevin couldn't even launch the boat the past two days
because of the. Wind he, sang there's a photograph. HERE
(28:19):
i can't wait to take a look at. This i'll
describe it as BEST i. Can come, on, photo where are?
You sometimes these things take a little longer THAN i would.
PREFER i saw a picture and it wasn't even really
related to the wind and the fishing around here as of,
late but it made good. Sense and there was a
(28:41):
picture of three men in a bass, boat white knuckling.
Speaker 3 (28:46):
Through some of the roughest Water i've ever.
Speaker 1 (28:48):
Seen in that boat when the photo was, taken was
probably tilted.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
Forty five degrees.
Speaker 1 (28:59):
Up it, was the bow was forty five degrees above the.
Stern this thing was one good gust from probably going over.
Backwards and the caption the cut line essentially said everybody
wants to be a gangster until you got to do gangster, stuff.
Speaker 3 (29:21):
AND i kind of could.
Speaker 1 (29:23):
RELATE i did a bass tournament years, ago well not
a bass, tournament but just kind of a fun day
on the water WHEN i can't remember what boat company
it was was offering they had launched a brand new
line of bass, boats AND i want to say we
were On it might have Been, livingston it might have Been.
(29:44):
RAVERED i think it Was Sam rabern AND i was offered.
Up you, KNOW i went up there for a. Weekend
this is long BEFORE i got, married AND i went
up there for a weekend AND i had my girlfriend with,
me and it was. Rough i'll admit it was, rough
BUT i wanted to test one of those boats and
(30:07):
so and she wanted to go. ALONG i, said, okay hop.
In and we got out there and started running, around
and it was it was rough as a, cob it really,
was AND i was trying to go slowly to make
it easy on my. Passenger and YET i knew that
IF i would get this thing up on top and
(30:27):
just kind of skip over the tops of the, waves
it would be more.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
Comfortable And i'd said would you do you want me
to smooth out the ride a little? Bit and oh, yeah,
yeah smooth that ride.
Speaker 1 (30:39):
Out and SO i got into it pretty, good and
we were just skipping like a flat rock over that,
lake and it was between, skips there were some pretty hard,
hits AND i realized immediately THAT i was going to
have to drop off my passenger and go, back can
(31:00):
maybe do some boat riding. Myself it was. Fun it
was exhilarating for, me but not so much for somebody
who hadn't spent that much time in a.
Speaker 3 (31:08):
Boat let's get to get. Tar, dave here's.
Speaker 1 (31:12):
TRIED i don't know what's going, On, evan hold, on

Speaker 1 (32:07):
That, yeah that guy there WILL i don't know that
there will ever be a picture of his, caliber somebody
who was as determined and as. Good you, Know it's
one thing if a guy wants to go out and
throw nine innings and kind of limp through. It it's
another to go out there and just just just beat people.
Speaker 2 (32:24):
Up.
Speaker 1 (32:25):
Uh he was, determined, yeah hell? Boy, yeah like a,
yeah like no other animal on. Earth he was.
Speaker 3 (32:32):

a hit off.
Speaker 7 (32:35):
Him, hey you, know and you could tell it in his.
Speaker 8 (32:39):

Speaker 1 (32:42):

that batter's box wished just wished it was a dream
and they could wake up from. It they didn't want
to see that ball coming at them like.
Speaker 7 (32:53):

Yet if we stick, around they're gonna they're gonna.
Speaker 1 (33:25):
Eat and but you make another thirty minutes or, nothing

he would wade way out their chest, deep throw the
line out next to the barnacles on the side of
(34:18):
those concrete piers.
Speaker 8 (34:20):
Down there In mount Of.
Speaker 7 (34:21):
Gory there wasn't no, uh it wasn't. That it wasn't
a peer. Anymore it was just a peer peer. Pilings, yeah,
concrete you got concrete with barnacles on. It and he
would chuk it down there and turn, around walk back
and hand me the rod and THEN i would have
to go run down the beach to get all the
slack out and uh boom. Boom we had five a
(34:43):
piece sheep's head and no time at all that you,
know one guy come over. There, yeah and we had
people come down sitting in their chairs watching us like
we were sitting on.

consulting on a creek. Started back, then there's just this
train of boats and the bass boats and they're, like,
Yeah i'm On highway thirty. Six oh, yeah no thirty. Five, anyways,
(40:40):
uhry and these are serious, boats. Okay AND i, thought
you know, what there's a tournament over, here and AND i,
kept from the life of, ME i cannot think of that.
Lake it's By. COLLEEN i know that big. Lake and
uh SO i stopped that subway because some when the
play THAT i was looking at the, rents you, know
(41:02):
fad ponds from a half acre to about three, acres
and they were all. White. Captain oh, WOW i mean
they were getting. It and uh, anyways, UH i go
stop this, sway get me a. SANDWICH i go over
and find me a boat, ramp which is real hard
to get to cause the water is kind of. Low
(41:23):
AND i found me a picnic.
Speaker 8 (41:25):
Table you.
Speaker 4 (41:25):
Know unloading the, boats these these guys are.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Good unloading.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Was not really that much of a problem because once
they hit the, water but they were paddled to the
metal reverse they didn't want to bounce. Around but watching
these people come in and and uh land the boat
and load that, boat, now that was. Comical that was.
(41:53):
Comical it's too long of a. VIDEO i was trying

Speaker 1 (43:16):
There and then but THEN i could barely hear. Myself oh,
no put it, back put it back to. Regular i'm so.
SCARED i said. That, Okay i'm. Good this, works never
mind seven one three two one two five seven Ninety
email Me Doug pike at iHeartMedia dot. Com we've talked
about bass fishing because the Bass Master's classic is going,
on and no better time than the present really to
(43:38):
get to talking about saltwater. Fishing, then seeing as how
it's a pretty safe bet that's somewhere Between sabine And Port.
Isabel there's a tournament going, on probably out Of port.
O'Connor that that tiny little well it used to be
a tiny little sleepy town on the coast where you
could go to get away from the crouds Of galveston
(44:01):
and just drive for miles and miles across that beautiful
bay and never even see another. Boat not so much.
ANYMORE i if port O'Connor it's just. Gotten it's gotten
bigger THAN i wish it. HAD i have some very
fond memories from fishing out Of port O'Connor back in
(44:24):
its sleepy, days And i'm all for everybody finding their
place on the coast that SOMEDAY i might find one for.
Myself but dog, GONE i hate to see places get
so crowded when they weren't. Before and there's there's no
way around. That it's happened To. Galveston it's gonna happen
to pretty much any coastal, destination because coastal destinations tend to.
Speaker 3 (44:46):
Draw crowds as they.
Speaker 1 (44:48):
Should where else are you gonna find saltwater, fishing not
knocking bass fishing at, all but out of the fish
That i'm out of all the Bass i've caught in my.
Speaker 3 (44:58):
Life Joe doggett AND i had this.
Speaker 1 (44:59):
Conversation forgive me if you've heard me talk about it,
before but we were sitting around in the office one day.
Speaker 3 (45:06):
At the, paper AND i think it was he who
brought it.
Speaker 1 (45:09):
Up we were talking about the difference in the fights
between the fresh water and saltwater, fish and neither of
us could ever remember any single large mouth bass that
we had. Caught and at that time we had both
caught not a, lot but a couple of double digit
fish and ten pounds are. Better and we still in
(45:32):
every season of the, year and we still could not
recall any largemouth bass that took more than one minute to.
Land they just. Don't and if you watch any watch
major league fishing, now these, guys, granted they're on the
clock and they're hustling their fish in as fast as they,
can but even if they were to take it down
(45:54):
a notch and enjoy the fight a little, bit it
wouldn't take one full minute to catch the large mouth,
bass whereas in salt water, now, grant a sixteen inch
trout isn't gonna keep you busy for a minute or.
More but when you start getting into five six seven pound,
(46:14):
trout probably gonna pull a little bit of, drag probably
gonna keep you honest for more than a. Minute and
add redfish to the, equation and there's just no question
that you're gonna be there for more than a.
Speaker 3 (46:27):
Minute on a good.
Speaker 1 (46:28):
FISH i wrote years, ago probably it might have been
three decades ago in a COLUMN i did that if
you tied a large mouth bass and a redfish tailed
to tail and toss them in the, water that redfish
(46:49):
within ten seconds would have that bass's gills flapping around
the front of its. Head it would pull it backwards
so hard that it would just flip its gills. Backwards
AND i STILL i stand by. That there's just saltwater
fish have to be, stronger they have to be, faster
(47:10):
they have to be they try to get big as
fast as they can because everywhere they go until you're
six foot, long, marlin there's something wanting to eat. You
there's something that will eat you if you slow down
and don't pay. Attention on one of the things THAT
i wrote that really made the most sense to, me
(47:32):
and and its time was fairly New i'm pretty sure
THAT i may have been the first to write.
Speaker 3 (47:38):
It but in salt.
Speaker 1 (47:39):
WATER i wrote every, fish all those trillions and trillions
of fish in the salt water of the, world in any,
water really or, only but mostly in salt, water because
it's such a hard environment for, them that all those,
fish they're only concerned with two two other fish than,
themselves the one in front of them and the one behind.
(48:00):
Them the rest of, irrelevant the rest of. Irrelevant if
the one in front of, you if you can't catch,
it you're gonna starve to. Death the one behind, you
if you can't accelerate out of its, mouth it's gonna eat.
You and that's what it boils down. To and that's
THAT'S i. MEAN i go bass fishing because it's very,
(48:21):
convenient but, man oh, man IF i had SOMEPLACE i
could just walk the banks and do WHAT i do
at those little, lakes but do it with red fishing,
Trout i'd be there. Someday someday seven one three two
seven Ninety email Me doug pick at iHeartMedia dot. Com
i's got an email about. Crabbing let me go see
(48:42):
what that. IS i saw the the line come in
my daughter looking to it for a place In matagorda
to catch, crabs also the best time of. YEAR i
will defer to my brilliantly educated audience and see if
(49:02):
somebody's got some little quiet public place Where glenn and
his daughter could go down and catch a basket of
crabs at some, POINT i would, yeah and then maybe
he'll invite us all over for crab claws seven one,
three two two five seven Ninety email Me dougpike at
(49:23):
iHeartMedia dot. Com oh, yeah, Uh david's the first one
to bring it up this, morning So i'll bring it up.
Speaker 3 (49:31):
NOW i do need that crab.
Speaker 1 (49:32):
Stuff if somebody knows a good place to go crabbing
down there Around Matta, Gorda i'd appreciate that there are
almost any place down there close to the coast where
you can sling a chicken neck, out tie it to a,
string sling it out, there and then get yourself a
dip net and watch for. Activity it should be. Okay
be sure to license yourself up. Duly depending on her,
(49:54):
age she may or may not need. Something you don't
want to get in trouble for going down there and doing.
That And i'm pretty confident that you need a license
just like you would for fishing to go. Crabbing at this.
Point If i'm, wrong somebody correct.
Speaker 12 (50:06):
Me.
Speaker 1 (50:06):
Please david wants to know if we can get back
into that, discussion and we can about the plan.
Speaker 3 (50:13):
THAT i believe his name. Is is It Rick curry
Or Tim?
Speaker 1 (50:16):
Curry the man who wants to make The parks And
Wildlife department go.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Away he wants to dismantle.
Speaker 1 (50:24):
It he wants to move its employees into other parts
of the state. Government And i'm one hundred percent against.
That this state has some of the best natural resources
in the entire country, anybody and everybody who works in
(50:45):
natural resources in any other state will tell you. That
they may not say it to their constituents back, home but,
overall the outdoor opportunity In, TEXAS i believe steps is
light years ahead of maybe any other state Except alaska,
(51:08):
maybe And alaska's two dogs on.
Speaker 3 (51:10):
Cold i'm not going to stay up there all.
Speaker 1 (51:12):
Year even IF i went for two weeks to, FISH
i wouldn't stick around waiting for winter to come. On
WHERE i have TO i have to heat my car's
engine to make it. Start that's that doesn't sound. Fun to,
me any of the contiguous forty eight down, here none of,
them not one of, them compares to what we've got
(51:34):
going on right here In. Texas just right here In,
texas we Have, well if you're from, here you, know
and if you're, NOT i don't want. TO i don't
want to tell you all our secrets too. Quickly but
even even if you don't own a, boat even if
you don't own a, ranch even if you don't have
a lease to hunt that kind of, property you can
(51:55):
still find, legitimate good quality hunting and fishing experiences just
walking in the water or walking through the. Woods, now
the public hunting experience here is a little bit different
than in a lot of states because the overwhelming majority
Of texas is privately. OWNED i like to the tune
(52:17):
of ninety three ninety four, PERCENT i think of the
whole state is owned, privately so we don't have that
much public land to.
Speaker 3 (52:24):
Hunt but because the.
Speaker 1 (52:26):
State is so dog, gone big eight or nine percent
of this state encompasses a whole lot of. ACRES i
tell you, What i'm let's Ask bob to hang, on
BECAUSE i don't want to get it behind on another.
Break i've already Given evan two or three gray hairs this.
(52:46):
Morning sorry about. That we're gonna head out and when
we get, BACK i will, yeah, okay we'll rack them
up as they come in right after the. Break Phoenix
knives has been hosting this all custom knife show up
there In belleville for many years, now several, years not,
many but Several this Year april five and, six at
(53:07):
The Austin County Expo center right there In, belleville free,
parking by the, way which you hardly ever get around
here except the grocery.
Speaker 3 (53:14):
Store more than.
Speaker 1 (53:15):
One, hundred nine, hundred excuse, me one hundred and fifty
plus knife makers coming in from all over the, country
all over the, country the nation's, best and that of
course includes the host From Phoenix Knives Cowboys, zamanski one
of the original contestants On forged And. Fire it's a
great opportunity for anybody who appreciates quality, cutlery appreciate, swords, axes.
(53:43):
Hatchets these people could these are the people who make these,
things and they make them in a way that's just
so much, better so much more beautiful.
Speaker 3 (53:53):
Than what you can get in a lot of.
Speaker 1 (53:55):
Places great opportunity to get out, there meet these, people
see them in competitions amongst themselves in different aspects of
knife making and. Sharpening so it's gonna be, fun it really.
Is i'm gonna try to make it out. There i'm
Gonna i've got a lot of reasons to go in that,
direction and that's gonna be one of them that. Weekend
(54:16):
IF i can get out of, here IF i can
get out of, Town Austin County Expost center right there In.
Belleville if you want to find out, more go To
Phoenix knives website and then click through to the page

Website Phoenix knives dot. Com day one way and had
twenty six. Pounds, YEAH i mentioned that. Earlier rudy and these,
(54:38):
guys it's gonna be interesting to see and faux pro
let me know that it's about a, third probably a
third of the people are not using livescope in that
Bass master's classic because and the only reason they're probably
not used that this week is because there are so
many fish up shallow and if they can.
Speaker 3 (54:56):
Figure out how to catch those, fish they're gonna do very.
Speaker 1 (54:59):
Well let me see IF i can. GET i don't
know what's going on in. There go ahead and Put
bob on for.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
Me, yeah there we, Are. Bob what's up?
Speaker 13 (55:06):

Speaker 3 (55:08):
You i'm. Good i'm very. Well thank.
Speaker 1 (55:10):

Speaker 13 (55:17):
Try i'm up here To Lake connor today visiting my
Coun i'm gonna try to do a little crappy. Fishing
BUT i want to share a story About George. Foreman
okay THAT i worked for the phone company up In
kingwood when he lived up. There this was one of
the most accessible celebrities you ever met in your.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
Life he never met a.
Speaker 13 (55:39):
Stranger, wow just a tremendous. Guy he talked to. Anybody
BUT i have two. Stories, ONE i was up there
working it at his house and there's a young man
who Called slim and a, big tall guy that always
comes to the gate to let you.
Speaker 8 (55:57):
In, Well i'm bringing on the. Gay no one come
and find.
Speaker 13 (56:01):
IT i see this big guy coming out Of who
in the world was? That, well the guy posting it Was.
Speaker 8 (56:06):
George he was in a big room but.
Speaker 13 (56:09):
HE i thought he was In vegas because he just
had a fight With Axel. Schultz and when he come
up to, ME i, Said, GEORGE i thought you won
the fight he was beat the, dad which he did.
Win he, said, yeah that guy could. Punch george was
just a great. Guy but another. THING i was there one,
day and you, know when he was in The, olympics
(56:31):
he took The american flag and waved it in the.
Speaker 8 (56:34):
RING i don't know.
Speaker 2 (56:34):
If you remember.
Speaker 8 (56:35):
That you might be too young for.
Speaker 3 (56:36):
That i'm not too young for, anything, okay.
Speaker 13 (56:42):
BUT i messed that To. George he gave me a
boxing sign THAT i.
Speaker 2 (56:46):
Gave to my.
Speaker 8 (56:47):
Dad oh, WOW i, thought what a great.
Speaker 13 (56:50):
Guy but he drive Around kingwood and if you saw,
him he stopped and talked to. You sure he didn't
care who you, were BUT i just wanted to share.
Speaker 8 (56:57):
THAT i heard that last.
Speaker 2 (56:58):
Night it was.
Speaker 4 (56:59):
SAD i like.
Speaker 1 (57:00):
IT i like when people like that are very accessible
and very, friendly and a lot of them aren't a
lot of. Them they come across that way on, camera
but they're, not and so to hear that about him
is really.
Speaker 13 (57:14):
Refreshing, well you know you MENTIONED i heard your young
man this, morning saying he Saw noel And ryan at
a restaurant and.
Speaker 8 (57:22):
Stuff i'm like.
Speaker 13 (57:23):
HIM i don't THINK i would approach someone out like,
that you, know in terse of their privacy and.
Speaker 8 (57:28):
Stuff i'm sure they wouldn't. Care BUT i just went.
Up But george wasn't like. That he was just a
Tremendous we're gonna miss.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Him he's a great.
Speaker 8 (57:37):
Man, yeah that's WHAT i want to share with.
Speaker 1 (57:40):
Him, yeah thank.
Speaker 3 (57:40):
You good to hear from, You, Bob, okay.
Speaker 13 (57:46):
Buddy And i'm looking At Lake Lake conra right now
and it's just dead calm.
Speaker 1 (57:50):
Oh, man that's not that's good. News these firefighters can
knock all that stuff. Out thank you appreciate.
Speaker 4 (57:57):
It.
Speaker 1 (57:59):
Audio, Yeah i've come across and had the very good
fortune in this. Industry Because i'm in the, Industry i'm
in to meet a lot of pretty well known. People
and it goes everywhere from entertainment to, baseball football and
(58:19):
just all all of. It golf certainly running to and
shaking the hands of a lot of very important people
in that, game and most of them have been quite,
friendly quite, forthcoming and more so than they had to.
Be and a lot of these, cases people get set
(58:40):
up for press conferences or something like, that and they
you can tell they really don't want to be, there
they really don't want to be talking to. Anybody But
i've had the good fortune of kind of these second,
tier actually it'd be more like first, TIER i, guess
interview opportunities with some pretty influential people in the world,
world and it's been a lot of.
Speaker 3 (59:02):
Fun you really get to know them.
Speaker 1 (59:04):
Just in a quick. Snapshot and if you run into,
somebody if you see someone like that and you recognize
them in a restaurant or in a grocery store or,
wherever you don't really have to be, intimidated whether you
know if they're friendly or, not but just to acknowledge at,
least you could just just walk by and very casually say,
(59:26):
hey love watching you play your, game or loved you
in whatever movie you were, in and it's a pleasure
of mind to see, you and don't try to get an,
autograph don't go that far unless they engage you. Back
and if they're nice enough to, say, well thank, YOU
i appreciate. That what was your favorite FILM i was,
(59:48):
in or or what's your favorite highlight from my? Career
and then they've opened the door and got a minute
to talk to, you and you might even get yourself a,
picture you might even get your self an. Autograph but
IT'S i would say that PROBABLY i want TO i
might be overly optimistic, here BUT i bet that about
(01:00:09):
eighty five or ninety percent of. Celebrities sometimes they try
not to be. Noticed they try to disguise themselves a
little bit when they go, out.
Speaker 3 (01:00:20):
But most of them are just regular. People they really.
Speaker 1 (01:00:22):
Are they just do something on television or on stage
for their, work and they're happy to talk to. YOU
i don't get recognized often for obvious. Reasons there aren't
that many people who would know who the HECK i.
Am but when it, happens it's very. Flattering AND i
NEVER i never brush anybody. OFF i never stopped them
(01:00:45):
from saying. Hello and it's happened a few times in
the grocery store in the mall, once and it's it's.
Fun it's very. Flattering LIKE i, said there was a
guy who recognized my voice the first time somebody ever
said or, You Doug, Pike AND i said, yeah and
the guy, SAID i recognized your. VOICE i was talking
(01:01:05):
to a cashier or something, somewhere and this guy just
he kind of walked over and stood next to me
UNTIL i finished talking to, her and that's when he said, That,
like holy, cow thank you so. MUCH i appreciate. That
it's very. FLATTERING i need to find some sort of
PRIZE i can carry around in my, Pocket, evan and
maybe just give to people who recognize me in. PUBLIC
(01:01:29):
i don't know what twenty, dollars give them twenty. Bucks
they'd all be looking for, me, then wouldn't. They, yeah,
yeah keep an eye. Out the guy's got a stack at.
Twenties somebody'd come up and take all the twenties, then,
though well it's been a while SINCE i had a
stack at. Twenties.
Speaker 3 (01:01:46):
YEAH i don't carry that amounts of bills like.
Speaker 1 (01:01:48):
THAT i signed golf. Ball, NO i can't do. That
that would look very awkward in my. Pockets i'm not doing.
Speaker 3 (01:01:54):
That, no it was worth a.
Speaker 1 (01:01:58):
Shot i'm thinking of a, punchline But i'm not going
to say. It absolutely not gonna say. It seven one
three two one two five seven Ninety email Me Doug
pike at iHeartMedia dot. Com, Oh, Evan, Evan, Now, evan
are you are you thinking about maybe hanging out with
me more or is this something you just can't wait
to stop? Doing?
Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
Uh, NO i do this ship you really doing this, Show?
DOUG i like.
Speaker 1 (01:02:23):
It, ACTUALLY i appreciate, It thank you very. Much so
what is your level of experience in the out of? Doors?
Speaker 14 (01:02:29):
Uh WHILE i was In scouts AND i kind of
got like a nice fondness for the outdoors growing. Up so,
like sometimes When i'm too stressed, out it's definitely like
a nice, LIKE i gotta go take a walk.
Speaker 3 (01:02:38):
AROUND i just gotta feel nature Anytime i'm. Stressed how
far do you lift from?
Speaker 14 (01:02:42):
Nature, Well i'm in the, suburbs SO i, mean IF
i really need, TO i just go to the nearby.
Speaker 3 (01:02:46):
Park it's a little. Woodsie, yeah you, know it doesn't
take a, lot it really.
Speaker 1 (01:02:50):
DOESN'T a city, park a county, park and then ramp
up to state. PARKS i don't know where exactly you
are in, town but there are.
Speaker 14 (01:02:59):
States i'm about some Sugar. Land so IF i really
want to Mather, way Then i'll go to Like.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Brass, yeah you go watch the alligators down.
Speaker 14 (01:03:06):
THERE i Mean i've seen him SINCE i was a,
kid SO i mean they never really move except for
like once in you, know a million.
Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
Years, well go down there during the breeding, season you'll
see them. MOVING i had my wife down there walking
around once and and.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
And we were having a great.
Speaker 1 (01:03:22):
Time there's that one trail that goes along a levee
where there's a drop off into a reservoir on one,
side you know Where i'm talking, About.
Speaker 14 (01:03:29):
And, yeah just a lake on the other. Side, yeah, yeah,
yeah it's Like Horseshoe lake or. Something, yeah something like.
Speaker 1 (01:03:33):
That but, anyway the long and the short of it,
is it was breeding season AND i was walking her
through there because down in that lower level you could
see quite a few alligators out. There and up ahead
on the, TRAIL i noticed this, big giant alligator's head
sticking out of the bushes or out of the the.
(01:03:53):
Grasses they're a big, tall probably almost thigh high grass.
Speaker 3 (01:03:57):
Hidden two huh, yeah big.
Speaker 1 (01:03:58):
Male and he's he's gonna come across. There he wants
to get down into that lower level where the girls.
Are And i'm, like oh, boy if she sees, this
it's all. Over i'm not really concerned with him because
we probably were gonna be able to get past him
before he decided to. Cross AND i felt comfortable walking
(01:04:20):
her through. There but as we walked, forward he came
out a little bit more and he got like a
four arm ount and a head and half the other
four arm, out and she caught the motion in her
eye line and she looked at, him and she looked at,
me and she, said we're.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
LEAVING i, mean this guy was twelve fourteen feet, man
he was. Big alligator wins you, know ten out of ten, times,
yeah ten out of, ten guarantee you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
That.
Speaker 1 (01:04:44):
YEAH i put a picture up the other day of
the one that's out there WHERE i, fish and that
alligator was. RIGHT i, mean he was parked on the
spillway WHERE i would try to stand to. Fish and
he's an honest. Ten he may not be, twelve but
he's an honest. Ten AND i put this video up
On facebook that, said no matter WHERE i fish, anymore
(01:05:05):
there's always a poacher in my, spot always somebody else
beating me to. It AND i just had to have.
Him let him have it that.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
Day Tell dave to hang, On i'll get him when
we get. Back we're gonna take this.
Speaker 1 (01:05:15):
Break on the way, OUT i will introduce my newest
member of the. Family and That's Riceland Waterfowl club down
In Eagle. Lake i've been talking To David pruitt about
doing something for, years, said please let me talk about
what you do down, there because it's somewhat.
Speaker 3 (01:05:30):
Unique.
Speaker 1 (01:05:30):
Really he is a club operator who manages thousands of
acres for, waterfowl make sure there's tons of water, there
and by default ends up with a lot of ducks
and more geese than probably a lot of places have as.
Speaker 3 (01:05:49):
Well he's been doing this for a very long. Time
he knows.
Speaker 1 (01:05:52):
Exactly by the, way if you ever want to learn
how to do a little duck, calling ask. Him he's
got bushel baskets full of trophies and. Accolades he's won
pretty much every contest there. Is he's wanted at least.
Once great. Guy he's about my, AGE i, guess maybe
a little bit, younger probably a little bit. Younger works
hard all year round to make sure that everything is
(01:06:13):
ready to go when the season. Starts and that means building,
blinds that means moving water and putting in more water
and creating a perfect ideal waterfowl habitat so the birds
come to. Him all these all of this is available
only to members of the. Club and their guests. Too
he doesn't run any guided hunts on his, places which
(01:06:36):
is a nice twist, really because if you're gonna work
hard as a as a regular sportsman, hunter you're gonna work.
Hard you want to make sure you're in a good,
spot and a lot of outfits that the good spots
kind of go to the guide. Sometimes let's face, it
that that. HAPPENS i was part of one of those,
places and it's a it's it could be, frustrating but
(01:06:57):
that doesn't happen With. Riceland it's only the the members
and their guests who are hunting down, there and all
of the blinds that they have, out all of these
great blinds they put, out are at least a quarter mile. Apart,
now there was one that SOMEBODY i think must have
taken a golf range finder or maybe a hunting range
(01:07:18):
finder down to and he came back and Told david
Hey man that blind's not a quarter of a mile
from WHERE i was hunting this. Morning he, goes, really
how far was? It david told me this, story four
hundred and thirty. Yards it's, like, Okay i'm, Sorry i'll
move it thirty. Feet MAYBE i don't. KNOW i don't
know what he's gonna, do BUT i do know that
he's gonna have. Ducks he's gonna have a lot of,
(01:07:39):
ducks and he's gonna have a lot of happy, hunters just.
Speaker 3 (01:07:42):
Like he did last.
Speaker 1 (01:07:42):
Year if you had, trouble if you struggled a little
bit last year with your duck hunting wherever it was you,
were maybe Give Riceland waterfowl a. Shot Riceland Waterfowl club
Dot com is the. Website go talk To david and
let him KNOW i sent you down. There Riceland Waterfowl
club dot. Com you're gonna be glad you made that.
MOVE i appreciate. IT i want to get into the
(01:08:07):
as curries BEFORE i, do, though with this whole notion
of abolishing The Parson Wallet, department which is, ludicrous really it,
is and there's there's some ulterior.
Speaker 3 (01:08:19):
MOTIVE i can't help but believe that this comes from something.
Speaker 1 (01:08:23):
Else BEFORE i get into, that, THOUGH i got an
email From Lyle lyle's longtime. Listener i've gotten a lot
of good emails from, him and he's moved back To
New orleans and he's asking me where he ought to
fish In New. Orleans and it's been a hot, minute
like probably sixty something years almost, no not Sixty i'd
(01:08:44):
say fifty five years SINCE i lived over that way
briefly with when my dad got transferred there part of
me for four years WHEN i was about ten ten
to about thirteen or, fourteen somewhere in, there and my
friends AND i we lived In, metaie and my friends
AND i could ride our bicycles down to a fairly
just an undeveloped piece of The Lake Ponch train, shoreline
(01:09:08):
AND i WOULD i would steer you away lyle from
the fresh water stuff around. There i'm not sure what's
close To New, orleans but, man if you can get
The Ponch train even without a, Boat i'm sure there
are some places to go off. Hand my recommendation that
is just this rubber standard issue, recommendation is to call
(01:09:29):
a couple of tackle stores around. There they're gonna want
to sell you, lures but to sell you, lures they're
gonna have to give up a couple of spots that
are checked with the kids in the. Neighborhood the teenagers
in the neighborhood probably know where you could go fish
close to. Home there's got to be something that whole
city's under under sea. Level there's bound to be some
(01:09:51):
water somewhere that it's got some fish in. It, huh all,
right let me shift. Gears i'm gonna go To let's
go talk To. John go ahead and hit that And
i'll get the there in a. Minute, john what's.
Speaker 12 (01:10:01):
Up, WELL i know you've spent a lot of time
in the field with camera and the. Glass, YEAH i,
KNOW i bet you haven't done it as much.
Speaker 8 (01:10:11):
LATELY i sent you SOMETHING i every.
Speaker 12 (01:10:14):
YOU i know you get a zillion, emails BUT i
know you would appreciate go through this list of. Pictures,
uh second third degree friend of mine sent me their
amazing wildlife pictures.
Speaker 8 (01:10:29):
When you go to take it on a, break.
Speaker 12 (01:10:31):
Because it takes a minute to really appreciate, him they
are amazing. You not a lot of people can appreciate
what it takes to get a get a frame like.
Speaker 2 (01:10:40):
That i'm a.
Speaker 8 (01:10:41):
Novice i'm a, novice and And i'm, like Just i'm in.
Awe he did all this in a couple of. Months and.
Speaker 12 (01:10:50):
You, know most guys they may spend three days to
get one capable, frame.
Speaker 15 (01:10:55):
Right you know WHAT i?
Speaker 8 (01:10:55):
Mean you know what it. Takes but, ANYWAY i know
a couple of people that can appreciate.
Speaker 1 (01:11:01):
This SO i, thought, yeah we're looking at this little photo.
Library you, said there's some good stuff, here no, Question.
Speaker 8 (01:11:07):
Oh get through it. All it's all it's it's all.
Birds but, MAN i mean the quality of that is
is national geographic.
Speaker 12 (01:11:18):
Type, yeah good stuff. Good but, anyway just JUST i.
WAS i just got it from my third degree friend
this morning and went through. IT i, said there's there's
a couple of PEOPLE i GOTTA i gotta tell, you.
Speaker 1 (01:11:30):
WELL i appreciate you sharing with me for. SURE a
couple of bobcats thrown in there as.
Speaker 12 (01:11:33):
Well, yeah that that's really hard to. Get you can
you can't just set up on. THOSE i know there's
a white eye that nest. Here So i'm gonna set
up on. This you gotta stumble into a bobcat pretty.
Much they don't just pop out in shooting and shooting
like you.
Speaker 16 (01:11:50):
Know WHAT i?
Speaker 8 (01:11:51):
Mean so any?
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Good what do you just?
Speaker 8 (01:11:56):
Have you hung up your camera bag pretty?
Speaker 1 (01:11:58):
Much Mostly i'm just shooting with my phone WHEN i
see SOMETHING i really, Like, yeah because carrying it around
it's it's enough that it's a ton of tackle and.
Uh but now IF i go down and make a
serious trip with somebody and really want to come back
and get a story out of it for one of
the MAGAZINES i still write. For i'll probably take, cameras but,
(01:12:18):

or better than most of the Equipment i'm still.
Speaker 12 (01:12:24):
Carrying so, sure if you're if you're two feet away
from somebody holding up a, fish.
Speaker 8 (01:12:29):

took quite a few years ago now out at the
golf course of a big redtail AND i most of
you have probably heard me talk about it and probably
even seen. It but it's a pretty decent, shot IF
i do say so, myself especially under the. CIRCUMSTANCES i
(01:13:03):
was playing golf AND i looked and saw this hawk
standing on the, shoreline or not on the, shoreline but
just on the kind of a little piece of elevation
on the golf, course if you. Will it wasn't any spectacular.
Thing it was just like there he, was AND i
(01:13:24):
tried to position myself the BEST i. Could most of
a good photograph is going to be from the lighting
and the uniqueness of the subject matter and the cropping
that you. Do and As i've told anybody and everybody
who wants to, listen the main, thing especially if you're
(01:13:47):
trying to do this with your phone and not out
there on a photo, safari if you, Will but the
main thing to do is.
Speaker 3 (01:13:54):
Make sure you get.
Speaker 1 (01:13:55):
Something just start clicking images with your phone and try
to get is just get increasingly close to the subject
until it finally flies away or swims away or runs
away or.
Speaker 3 (01:14:06):
Whatever and then go back and.
Speaker 1 (01:14:08):
Look at the images you got and and see if
some of them can't be cropped to become a little
bit better. Photograph hang, on try this camera on golf. Course,
okay let me send send, him Send john this image
and maybe he can shoot me back a little a
little critique of that.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
One.
Speaker 1 (01:14:30):
Uh but, yeah that just get gets, something because your
your phone is gonna do a really good job if
you give it a chance to and don't try to
manipulate it while you're trying to get to the.
Speaker 3 (01:14:39):
Emails and do yourself a, favor and don't try.
Speaker 1 (01:14:41):
To enlarge everything with your, phone especially if it's something
pretty far away that you have to really go wide open,
on because it'll just pixelate like crazy when you try
to do anything with. It seven one three two one
two five seven Ninety email Me dougpike at iHeartMedia dot.

that Guy, curry let's bring that music down a little.
Bit let them get out of. There This Representative curry
(01:17:26):
has introduced a bill that would abolish The parks And Walleafe.
Speaker 3 (01:17:32):
Department i've talked about that more than.
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Once and on top of, that he introduced a bill,
that in a, nutshell IF i remember reading it, correctly
would also greatly reduce the penalties for offenses related to deer.
Breeding Representative, curry from What i'm reading and a lot of,
(01:17:54):
places is also into deer. Breeding and so he may
not be the man we would want to write legislation
about dear breeding because clearly he has a vested interest in.
Speaker 3 (01:18:12):
It if What i'm reading is. True if, not then
somebody tell.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
Me But i've seen it from more than one, source
AND i would hope that that it isn't the case
that there's.
Speaker 3 (01:18:23):
Anything you.
Speaker 1 (01:18:28):
Know the REASON i hesitate is because it almost seems
two coincidental that just back On february twenty, fifth The
parks And Widlife department finished up a, long long, investigation
and oh, yeah let me Get george mixed up in
(01:18:48):
this real. Quick let's go ahead and bring him. On, Hey,
George i'm going to bring you into this. CONVERSATION i appreciate, it.
Speaker 8 (01:18:55):
SIR i think you're spot.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
On douglas.
Speaker 1 (01:19:00):
The Gentleman Congressman, curry he, added.
Speaker 15 (01:19:04):
According to this, article uh That i've, Vetted, uh he
doesn't want to see the agency get, dissolved but wants
to see a. Change and then the quote is the
intent of this bill is really to start a.
Speaker 1 (01:19:15):
Conversation and he goes on from there like a politician. Will, yeah,
WELL i think it's a bad conversation to. Have there's
no reason for it that The parks And Wallet department
operates in the. Unit and if it if it's dismantled
and all these parts of The parks And Wallet department
get swallowed up by other. Departments, uh what's the purpose of.
(01:19:39):
That these people work very well together to protect and
preserve and. Conserve this takes invaluable natural, resources and this
guy wants to ass blow it.
Speaker 8 (01:19:50):
Up well hopefully, so you.
Speaker 1 (01:19:52):
KNOW i don't.
Speaker 15 (01:19:53):
Know but here's the thing you're spot on in my
in my, opinion it's just my, opinion is it has
to do what is the number one cash crop In.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Texas, okay it ain't, Alfalfa, okay it's.
Speaker 1 (01:20:07):
Dear, yeah there's a lot of money. Made that's what it's, About.
Speaker 3 (01:20:12):
Doug you already touched on.
Speaker 1 (01:20:14):
It it's about chic chronic wasting.
Speaker 3 (01:20:16):
Disease And i'm.
Speaker 1 (01:20:17):
SORRY i WISH i had more confidence than all these
people that are that are, involved BUT i. DON'T i don't.
HAVE i questioned.
Speaker 15 (01:20:25):
IT i, questioned you, know all of this as much
AS i questioned having a prescribed burn In Sandy Center
county when you have twenty to twenty five miles prior
sustained wins and gusts up to thirty and thirty five
miles per. Hour and that's being investigated, Too and nobody
can convince, ME i don't care who it is, president.
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Nobody can convince me that that was a smart thing to,
do you, Know And i'll leave it at.
Speaker 15 (01:20:50):
That that's a.
Speaker 1 (01:20:51):
Lot AND i sent another email AND i it's, CONFESSED
i have seen your moment AND i may have sent
it previous emails to the WRONG. U i used iHeart.
Speaker 3 (01:21:02):
Radio oh, yeah, OKAY i.
Speaker 1 (01:21:06):
Sit on him about those. Burns AND i sent you
this forecast for yesterday and. Everything just take a look at,
that And i'll try to send you the ones on
the smart meters off for because that's very.
Speaker 3 (01:21:16):
Important all, Right thanks, man your, Family i'll see all,
right all, Right, yeah kind of back to it once,
again innocent until proven. Otherwise and there's.
Speaker 1 (01:21:27):
Nothing the man has not done anything that's outside his
his right to do. It he is a state representative
and he can put up any bill he. WANTS i
just disagree with what he wants to do to The
parks And Wilafe. Department And i'm not questioning his his.
MOTIVES i have no reason to believe that he's doing
(01:21:47):
this selfishly or for personal, gain but the fact just
because he is in that, industry HE i don't know
that he's he's the right person to be making the
rules that industry when the rules that he wants to
make might benefit him. Someway and once, Again i'm not
(01:22:10):
saying he's doing anything. Wrong i'm really. Not he's got
every right to put that bill in, there and every
right to make the case for, it and i'd love.
TO i may try to get him on the show
and just, say what's, up what are you doing this?
For why do you think the parks and wallache department
needs to be? Dismounted And i'll make an effort to do,
That ACTUALLY i will as soon AS i get off
the show. Here i'm going to make a Note Curry.
(01:22:34):
Call i'll make a note to do that WHEN i
finish up the show today and see if we can't
see if we can't get him to talk about it
on the air or at least in an interview a phone.
Speaker 3 (01:22:46):
Interview i'll just do that with him this week IF
i have.
Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
To if he doesn't want to get up early on
A saturday Or sunday, morning that's that's certainly his, prerogative
But i'd like to hear it from him instead of
everybody talking about what he's doing while he's doing. It
let's just let him talk for.
Speaker 3 (01:23:01):
Himself i'd be happy to have him on seven, one three,
two seven.
Speaker 1 (01:23:05):
Ninety let's let's Hit david real quick before we get
to the, Break, david what's, up?
Speaker 10 (01:23:09):
Buddy, Yeah, JACK i want to add another element to this,
discussion and that Is Tigris TEXAS Agg Commissioner Sid. Miller
there was an article in The Houston chronicle Where he's
come out and, said, well you, Know i'm not necessarily proposing,
it but it would Say texans a lot of money
to put, it a lot of the h a lot
of it under the you, know The Bag. Commission and
(01:23:31):
when you think about if you're someone who believes that
wild game can be, grown raised and managed like live,
stock that is where you would put.
Speaker 4 (01:23:42):
It.
Speaker 17 (01:23:43):
Uh if you wanted to have favorable if you wanted
to have very favorable regulation toward wild game as if
it were live, stock then you would put it under.
It so, Uh AND i think if you would You
i'm not a, biologist BUT i think if you would
speak to a, biologist wildlife, biologists he would tell you
(01:24:06):
that would be the absolute worst thing to, do is
to try to treat life wild game like.
Speaker 3 (01:24:13):
Livestocks, yeah they're apples and.
Speaker 1 (01:24:15):
Oranges they really are a very good.
Speaker 9 (01:24:17):
Point and you know you're.
Speaker 10 (01:24:19):
RIGHT i, mean they got their feelings hurt when they
were transporting wild deer. Illegally and, uh you know it's
Good doug that you know the hunters and the and
the state were a, minority and it's good that they.
Are they're bringing out into the open for the non hunting.
Majority how some people view deer differently from people like, Myself,
(01:24:46):
yeah who feel very strongly about the free chase element of.
Hunting and these are people who breed. Deer let's face
that they breed trophy deer for the purposes of putting
those animals inside a high.
Speaker 2 (01:25:04):
Sense to, quote be. Hunted do you want to call us? Hunted?
Right and.
Speaker 10 (01:25:12):
For a lot of, money you can always follow the money,
trail and the money trail is where this legislation is being.
Speaker 4 (01:25:20):
Originated it'll.
Speaker 1 (01:25:22):
Work thank, you all, right thank, you all. Right rapidly
approaching another. Break we got to do it, well shift.

morning and we'll just do a run through of that.

(01:26:02):
that we're going to. Have hopefully we'll get this started
soon about picking winners of, tournaments AND i would love
to start with The Houston, open which is coming.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):

Speaker 3 (01:29:01):
Com let's take a look at The Bowels.
Speaker 1 (01:29:03):
Bar shall we ongoing down there Where florida At Palm.
Harbor that's where they are At, innisbrook The Copperhead course At.
Innisbrook to be precise and, specific Where Jacob bridgeman.
Speaker 3 (01:29:19):
Is leading by a single shot that it seems this.
Speaker 1 (01:29:22):
Year at least in the in recent, weeks we'll call,
it the scores have not been kind of out of
control low as they tended to be for a couple of,
seasons except for in the majors and in a rare
handful of tournaments that really spruced up the courses to
(01:29:45):
favor the course over the. Player Jacob Brigman's bridgeman's only
six hunder par and he leads by a shot Over Victor,
Hoblin Rio hissuni and Bionghoun. On at four under, par
we Find Shane, Lowry Kevin, Wells Kevin velo excuse me
(01:30:05):
at tiny little print, Here Xander shaffley also at, four
And Jeremy paul and then there are half a dozen
guys at three and it goes on from. There Jordan
speith making a statement he's only at two under, par
but he's three under so far through just four holes
on its round. Today so the course is there to
(01:30:26):
be had, well at least for one. Guy i'm trying
to see how if anybody else is really making any
kind of a. Move very few people on the golf
course yet so, yeah about, Half, no not even, half,
yeah maybe. Half bottom line is the cut line was
actually only at plus, two and it's been a while
since we had one of. Those, yeah two, Plus holy.
(01:30:50):
COW a lot of golfs to be played. Left BUT
i don't think there are going to be that many
BIRDIES i. Would i'm not gonna Say i'm not gonna
just go the easy way and say it's going to
be double six and twelve to. WIN i think it
might actually take a little bit more than that to, win,
actually but not by maybe thirteen, Fourteen but it's certainly
(01:31:12):
probably not going to get to, twenty like a lot
of Tournaments haen in recent.
Speaker 3 (01:31:17):
HISTORY i like.
Speaker 1 (01:31:19):
THIS i like it when they have to work a little.
BIT i like it when they have to struggle, sometimes
and if you get, wins you forget any kind of weather,
event and then all of a sudden it gets just
a little bit. Harder right, now it's sixty degrees over
there with a three mile an hour southwest wind that
that's not going to help the golf course any but
(01:31:41):
pen placement and some of the rough that they're dealing
with this week and probably will next week as. Well
at The Houston. Open, yeah that's going to be an issue.
Certainly Texas Children's, Open Houston open coming up next week
At Memorial park Golf, course and there's a whole lot
of firepower in the lineup for that. One it's gonna be.
(01:32:04):
Good i'm gonna have a conversation With Jason. HOLDING i
believe It's. HOLDING i think that's. It Jason holden from
The Astros. Foundation he's going to be on. Tomorrow he
is their vice president of marketing and he's gonna be
on tomorrow with me to talk about the tournament and
who's coming and what we can expect to, see how
(01:32:25):
the course is being set.
Speaker 9 (01:32:26):
Up and so.
Speaker 3 (01:32:27):
FORTH i know who we're going to a little bit
of who we're gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:32:30):
See roy McElroy And Scottie scheffler both, coming which is
pretty dog one GOOD jj spawn who just this past
week lost in a playoff To rory McElroy at the
at THE Pga. Championship it's Gonna Ricky fowler's, Coming Jason.
Day Ricky fowler was my son's childhood. Hero AND i
(01:32:51):
Think i've told this story, recently But i'll tell it
very quickly once. Again at one of The Shell houston
opens years. Ago my son was out there AND i
set up to broadcast from close to the practice facility
where all the pros were lined up and teeing it
up before they went out and played the. Course and
my son Saw Ricky fowler and he AND i were
(01:33:12):
walking back toward the car And ricky was coming out
with his caddy and my son just.
Speaker 3 (01:33:17):
Froze he couldn't say, Anything.
Speaker 1 (01:33:18):
Dad That's Ricky Fowler's Ricky. FOWERS i, said go talk to,
him go say.
Speaker 2 (01:33:22):
Hi and he just.
Speaker 3 (01:33:23):
Couldn't he couldn't do.
Speaker 1 (01:33:24):
It and it's. Okay he was, young and he was
kind of, intimidated, starstruck if you. Will and the next,
day WHEN i was back out there broadcasting On, SUNDAY
i Saw fowler and his caddy sitting at a little
kind of a halfway stop between the locker room and
the practice. Range there was a place set up where
(01:33:44):
they could sit and have a bottle of water or
whatever talk about what they were going to do that.
Day AND i walked over to him and introduced myself
AND i, said my son was here with me. Yesterday
he's a huge fan of, yours as AM, i and
he just couldn't gather the courage to come over and
get a picture with. You would you mind letting me have?
(01:34:05):
One and he, said heck, no give me your. PHONE
i gave him my. Phone he gave it to his
caddy and we stood there and got a picture AND
i took it home to my, son and he was
just green with.
Speaker 3 (01:34:14):
Envy you could just tell he and he learned then
that it's okay to talk to these.
Speaker 1 (01:34:19):
Guys he really. Did and he learned then, that just
like we were talking about With Nolan ryan, earlier people
of celebrity know that they're going to be. Recognized they
know that people are going to want to talk to,
him and so long as you just don't overwhelm them
and just try to break into their dinner at a,
restaurant if they're having a nice dinner with their spouse
(01:34:42):
in a, restaurant don't go over there and pull up a.
Chair just say, HEY i admire your, work glad to see,
you it's an honor to see you, here it's a
pleasure to see. You whichever word you want to, use
just to let them know that you like what they.
Do football, player basketball, player, anybody any of these people, actresses.
(01:35:03):
Actors i've met a few of them as well over the,
years and just LIKE i said, earlier they they put
their pants on the same way we, do one leg
at a, time seven to one three two one two
five seven. Ninety email Me dougpike at iHeartMedia dot. Com
i'll slide back IF i. May i'm trying. To i'm
trying to.
Speaker 3 (01:35:23):
Decide, Oh i'll tell you one little piece of golf.
Speaker 1 (01:35:26):
NEWS i THINK i mentioned it a couple of weeks.
AGO i may not. HAVE i was at the range
about a week and a half two weeks ago now
and late late LATE i was the only guy out.
There the sun was almost, down and that in the
positioning of where we have the tea line set, up
WHERE i out there At blackhawk keeps. It once the sun's,
(01:35:48):
down you can actually see again down down range because
it sets up east and west and it's it's very hard.
Sometimes bottom line IS i make a swing with my gap.
Wedge i'm working on kind of a three quarter swing
with the gap, wedge and didn't take a particularly big.
Divot but that club head just decided it wanted to
divorce the shaft of the club and it did so
(01:36:10):
in that, swing and there was this awkward feeling right
as the ball pardon, me right as the ball struck
the clubhead it and then it just went totally.
Speaker 3 (01:36:19):
Light there was no weight at the end of the club.
Speaker 1 (01:36:22):
Anymore and my eyes caught just this tumbling in the
air motion of the head of my gap wedge sailing down.
Range now not very far because it wasn't a full,
swing but NONETHELESS i was left with a predicament BECAUSE
i had to play the next. Day and when you
(01:36:43):
go looking for, wedges it's pretty easy to find all you.
Want you can go to Bass pro or not Bass pro,
shop go To Dick's Sporting, goods you can go to
one of THE pga. Supercenters you can go to any
any golf store or big sporting goods store round is
going to have lots of, wedges but they're not going
to have very many left handed.
Speaker 3 (01:37:05):
Wedges and SO i ran over to Dick Sporting.
Speaker 1 (01:37:08):
Goods in true to, form they had PROBABLY i don't
know thirty forty wedges between sand wedge and pitching, wedge
all little gappers in all different, degrees different. GRINDS a
lot of manufacturers represented grand total of four left handed
ones grand total of, four which wasn't very, many BUT
(01:37:28):
i selected one And i'm playing with it now and
It's i'm getting a feel for, it but it's definitely.
DIFFERENT i had been been swinging that original for a
very long. Time it dated back to WHEN i had
a very good relationship With Tailor, made and that's that's
what kind of wedge that, was and it was a
(01:37:50):
very GOOD i loved, IT i really. Did it got
me out of a lot of. Jams but Now i'm
kind of getting used to this new, one which is
a little bit. Lighter head a little, bit BUT i
feel a little more connected and a little it feels
a little more sensitive in my. HANDS i can control
it a little bit, better and so hopefully it. Will
it will bring me many many chips to within kick in.
(01:38:14):
Range it will be bring many pitch shots FROM i don't.
Know i'll probably be good from about eighty or one
hundred with this club, now maybe not quite a full.
Hundred AND i don't worry about that because one hundred
years Ago Jim murphy instilled in me.
Speaker 3 (01:38:32):
A very good touch for a very.
Speaker 1 (01:38:35):
Good touch for shots from anywhere from about maybe twenty
five or thirty yards out to about one forty or,
so which is WHERE i was pitting pitching ridge back.
Then i've lost a little bit of. That not much
frustrating to get old good, HEAVENS i need to take
a break on.
Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
The way out very. Quickly, greg hang, On i'll get
to you as soon AS i get.
Speaker 1 (01:38:55):
Back Timber Creek Golf, club speaking of the, GAME fm

way maybe three miles west of The Gold.
Speaker 3 (01:39:03):
Freeway very easy to.
Speaker 1 (01:39:04):
Find and once you pull through the, gate you're gonna
find twenty seven holes of fantastic. Golf not. Difficult you
don't have to worry About you don't have to worry
about a ton of, sand you don't have to worry
about a ton of.
Speaker 3 (01:39:15):
Water there's just enough to keep you. Honest but if
you'll stand on that tea, box you'll look down the.
Speaker 1 (01:39:20):
Fairway the architect of this facility made it very simple
to see where you need to hit the ball to
have the best shot at getting yourself onto the green
from there and then making your par pick the right
tea boxes for your level of strength and ability to
drive it far and don't hurt. Yourself just make it.
(01:39:42):
Fun Timber creek's a, fun fun, layout it really. Is
they got a great teaching staff if you need. Them
WITH Jj woods over there next door to the, range
they have a fantastic grill in which you can get
yourself a little something to eat before or, after maybe
a cocktail or two or, three depending on how you
play golf and how much aiming fluid you. Need it's
(01:40:03):

Speaker 1 (01:43:37):
Whatnot how many brothers and you, know siblings and how
one of them always catches the, most and then in
the eleventh, hour the little kid who has been struggling
catches the. Biggest that's happened to me a. Lot it's
almost like it couldn't be, coincidental you.
Speaker 9 (01:43:54):
Know, Yeah my MY i had two brothers and they're
two years, apart And i'm six and eight years behind,
them AND i got to watch. Them they were the
most competitive people, ever and we would we would fish
off the piers in the sixties at at Rock work
under the lights and catch all those little speckled trout
(01:44:16):
and you, know all of a sudden one of them
want to catch at two or three pound trout and
they would. Glow and my, dad my dad used to,
say you, know we fished from like midnight until six
in the. Morning and the little little place that we
had was earth staid was not air, conditioned so we
fished at. Night and he, said, YEAH i could figure,
out you, know which one of the boys caught the
(01:44:38):
biggest fish that night.
Speaker 2 (01:44:39):
From the way they. Walked one, was one was, threatened
and one was. Glowing so oh, yeah but that's so much.

Gonna i'm gonna lean into what we've been talking about
a little bit more than a little bit this morning
and just throw it out to you.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
Guys who Is now we're gonna have to limit it
to outdoors.
Speaker 1 (01:45:33):
Or, golf, okay but who is the most famous person
you've run into at some point in outdoors or? Golf
and and while you're thinking about that and maybe, call maybe,
NOT i don't. KNOW, I LIKE i, Said i've got
a pretty good list of People i've been very fortunate
to meet in my.
Speaker 3 (01:45:51):
Lifetime seven one three two one two.
Speaker 1 (01:45:53):
Five seven ninety email on, Me doug Pick At iHeartMedia Dot.
Com uh pardon me. THERE i got an email From Billy.
Stoker And billy WHEN i was talking about my gap,
wedge And billy, said like all new, irons as soon
as you get, them take them to somebody who has
a Lie loft machine to have them. Checked and that's
(01:46:16):
something that's very important and not a whole lot of
people talk about it or even think about.
Speaker 3 (01:46:22):
It and even when something.
Speaker 1 (01:46:24):
Is stamped fifty two or fifty, four fifty six degrees
or sixty, degrees fifty eight, whatever even if it's stamped,
that it may not be, that and it's a good
idea to get them checked so you can make, sure
especially if you get a whole new set of. Irons
those that set of irons didn't go through the process
(01:46:48):
of one of. Each they're making one thousand three, irons
one thousand four, irons a thousand five, irons one thousand
and six, irons and then they just yank one of
each each number out of the out of all the
ones that are, made and the ones you got might
not be precisely bent and precisely built to be that
exact number of degrees that the pros are notorious for
(01:47:11):
knocking them down and making these things go. Longer that's why.
Speaker 3 (01:47:14):
They're hitting nine irons one hundred and eighty. Yards that's.
Speaker 1 (01:47:19):
They're, good and they swing hard and they generate a
lot of, speed but a lot of those irons are
bent down a little bit to be a little bit,
stronger and that's how they get some of that performance
out of them that most of us only wish we could.
Have so who have you met, fishing, hunting, camping. Whatever
(01:47:41):
who have you stumbled upon in some sort of outdoor?
SETTING i would love to. Know let's go talk To.
Steve tee them up for.

Fishing we were just back and forth talking about. Fishing
(02:04:17):
and that is one way that you can maybe get
a little extra a little extra time with someone who
you admire as much AS i admire. Him and that's
the way to do, it is just have something else
to talk, about because they get tired of golfers get
tired of talking about. Golf and most most of the
guys on, tour well not, most but a lot of
(02:04:37):
the guys on tour travel with fishing.

little water where all that technology isn't really going to benefit.

Them if they'll keep allure in the, water they're gonna
have a good chance to win the Bast Master. Classic

go for that fishing old, school fishing old, school just
(02:07:26):
getting out there playing your out of your own brain
and not off A tv. SCREEN i would love to
see that, Happen and nothing against the guys who are using,
it but they might be hurting themselves this week under these,
conditions by not going up into sixteen eighteen inches of
water and seeing what they can find, there.
