Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross ten oh
one in h Town. Good morning, and welcome to a
Monday edition of The Matt Thomas Show with Ross. It
is very nice to have you with us. Hope you
guys had a very end. Ladies had a very RESTful,
exciting weekend. The Local nine gave us really bizarre games

(00:24):
over the last four days, which we'll get to on
the radio show. Both on and off the field. We
have to. I just I got some breaking news from
the SEC commissioner. He wants all teams that from the
SEC that make the college Baseball Tournament to go automatically

(00:44):
on to Omaha. It's interesting. Yeah, that's a good idea.
Greg Sank says that we are such a powerful conference
that we automatically should go all the way. Yeah, take
up the look factor in the these wacky baseball retails.
Just put the top scenes in. I actually put on
ESPN Plus yesterday and watched Texas lose to UTSA and
thus the Longhorns are out Vanderbilt. The roadbunners are tough. Yeah,

(01:07):
roadtors are tough. The long Horns. Number two overall Sea Gonzo.
The number one overall Sea was Vanderbilt, and they're also Gonzo.
A and m wasn't even in the tournament but kept
their coach around. So they're Gonzo. They're Gonzo, and I
don't know who else is in it. Okay, no, it
doesn't matter, Yeah, it doesn't matter. All right. We are
with you today until two o'clock this sa afteroon. Ross.
Good to have you back after a couple of days.
Good to be back, Matt Yep, it's nice to have you.

(01:29):
You look great. It's nice to see you. What you tired,
I mean, yeah, I'm always tired, all right. I was
just trying to start the show with a compliment. Well,
I mean it was usually I started the other way.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
So I know.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
It's turning over a new leave. Maybe maybe that time
away helped you reconfigure your life. Yeah, I went on
a darkness retreat like Aaron Rodgers. Yeah no do so.
You see you were in a small box with no power. Okay, yeah,
h which is Houston every hurricane season. That's true. That's
why you can come to the house whenever you want
to appreciate it gets you the generator from here comes
the plugs Man Calday Home Products, Texas Seamless what a professional.

(02:02):
I've done this for a few years. We are with
you today until two o'clock has eventually, we've got to
tell the truth at eleven thirty, believe it or not,
at one fifty, and then really an opportunity for us
to kind of gather through a few things, including the
Astros in Jordan. That's a tough one, and and there
are a lot of layers should I guess there shouldn't

(02:24):
be a lot of layers to it, but there's gonna
be some layers to it that we'll get I'll certainly
address on the show today. The Astros get blown out
twice and I mean creamed twice and then have two
pitchers duels. It just shows you how crazy and how
unpredictable baseball is. Yeah, it feels like we have to
go back to the old Crutch phrase, that's baseball. It's bizarre.

(02:47):
It is to get hard to what was the what
was the run differential in the series? Well, I mean
the the Astros bullpen Friday and Sunday. Well, we didn't
have to worry about it on Friday because Robert throws
a complete game. But Sunday the bullpen was good. Yesterday
Hunter Brown was good as while getting another victory. He
know he has what does he have? Eight wins? Now?
I think the Rockies have nine? He's coming for him,

(03:09):
coming for you, Colorado. Could you imagine being I don't
even know if there's such thing as a Rockies fan,
but they're nine to fifty Rockies fan is locked in
on Denver broncos OTA's right, Oh oh, no quie. Imagine
if we were doing Denver sports radio, it would be like,
does Nicolo Jokic need some help? Well, they wouldn't bring
Who is gonna play? Can Bo Nicks make that leap

(03:32):
this year? Who's gonna play the backup defenseman for the Avalanche?
You know what? I bet you? Colorado Rapids soccer gets
more run than really, really, the Rockies. I'll take your
word for it. They're good. I mean, I imagine they
can't be worse than the Rockies, that's true. They're absolutely horrible.
All right. So the Astros get two out of four
and are a half game behind the Mariners because they

(03:56):
came back and walked off this the Minnesota Twins yesterday
by a final score two one. It was a one
nothing game. Twins tied in the ninth and then their
defense lets them down and Seattle wins it two to one.
Cal Rawley had another home run by the way big
Dumper as they call him. Would you ever call that
nickname to a fellow human being, I mean, obviously he

(04:22):
likes Hey. I guess I've got to a couple places
on Richmond. I see some big dumpers. I'm trying to
make the Friday clips one one segment in Yeah, I mean,
I guess after set me up that was your fault.
I guess after a heavy meal too. I mean, it
is what it is. But uh so we got that
to get to we have the so they call you

(04:44):
at Bucky's claytest rushrooms in America. Shout out to them,
I'm sorry taking the lowing fruit. I'm gonna read it
back in Yeah, you, I mean, we've weren't been on
there for four minutes. I don't care if you've been
going too days. Get those repped said, Uh, it's funny.
We had maybe one of the most would you say, Jonathan,

(05:07):
one of the most unnerving non Florida stories in the
history of the show this past Friday. I would like
a run back at some point. Can we run that back?

Speaker 3 (05:16):
That non Flora Storty was disgusting, like, whose was it mine? No, No,
it was not, it was it was mine.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Okay, My second worst story of all time is when
you don't know this, Jonathan, You weren't here, but I had.
We had a story a few years back where a
woman that was living in San Antonio was laying in
her bed and she started to notice that there was
blood dripping off of her roof of her apartment complex.
The person above her had died, had been dead for
several days. Yeah, it was a great story. It's a

(05:45):
really uplifting Yeah, what day was that? On the Wednesday Friday?
It was years ago, it was one of it was
one of the early non Florida stories. And then this
past week Ross we had a woman that had been
complaining of a sinus infection for seven years because of
her her ex boyfriend's fly Chileans X. They broke up

(06:09):
over it. Well, she was hurt, she had a foot
injury or ankled injury and had surgery so she was
immobile and he blue gass and it reached into her
nose and she got a coli through that and has
had the No, that is not I doesn't add it.
I don't believe it. I need to. We need a
medical doctor to break this down. I mean, we could

(06:32):
get you know, I don't think is going on. Yeah,
I think so. I think anybody could put two and
two together, could probably figure that out. But that's a
different issue for a different time. Oh all right, Non Florida,
say the show. That's fine, we got four more hours
of this. We do love it, all right, I have to.

(06:55):
I've been thinking a lot about the whole Jordon hand situation.
By the way, he's his hand is at sixty percent
according to the what Dana Brown said over the weekend.
That's good. So the first thing I would have thought
of was, okay, so if he's been gone since early May, hmm,
and he's at sixty percent, obviously he would be at

(07:17):
before sixty percent, say April twenty fifth, right, I would
think so. So, using the fractions and the equations, if
you're at sixty percent from April twenty fifth to June first,
you gotta get it's gonna be accelerated. You gotta get

(07:39):
stay with me on this, you gotta get the other
forty percent fixed, right, Yes, So if it takes a
month and a week to get to sixty is it
another four weeks to get to one hundred? I don't
know these it's not one for one. Maybe he's an
accelerated healer. What do you call that? When you try fractions?
You know what is like two fourth is the same
as three sixth? The kind of you try rations? Rational? Rational?

(08:03):
I don't know. Jonathan's been in school reef more recently. Rational.
I was a liberal arts man, all right. So that
was the first thing I thought, is if he's a
sixty percent, now, how when do you get to seventy
one percent? When does it hit eighty four percent? I
don't know. I even said I said this last week

(08:24):
before this all went down. Just tell me when he's
back in the lineup. So Dana had to speak Saturday
in the dugout, and he was going through a lot
of medical terms, and clearly he was uncomfortable doing this inflammation.
There was all sorts of phrases, you know, all the
things that you would think a medical professional would be saying,
and not the general manager of a major league baseball team.

(08:46):
But you know what, if you're at your title, you're
gonna have to wear some additional responsibilities. So the number
one thing I think out of some And obviously we've
got really good meetia here Chandler and Brian and Matt
from the Chronicle. They'll do a really good job. They're
on the beat every single day, they're asking the right questions,
they're training information for their readers and their audience, and

(09:06):
we certainly do our affair share as well. But the
overwriting factor was how did this happen? How do you
take batting practice on Friday and then all of a
sudden this shows up on Saturday. I mean, should I
have even been on the field taking batting practice if
there was a fracture? And you know, data had to
unfortunately had to try to describe that the inflammation wasn't

(09:28):
the fracture wasn't seen until they went and goll looked
at the additional inflammation, which unfortunately you're not complained of
after the batting practice. So again we're getting very very
convoluted on this, and there is obviously a concern that
the astros are not being overly forthcoming with their injuries.
Not overly forth coming, they're basically not giving you any

(09:49):
information at all. So I kind of did an informal
survey of my friends that I would consider astro fans okay,
because again, when you're in the media, you may think
you may know what your audience wants, yes, or you
still want to figure out what they want. You can
be a bit out of touch to an extent because

(10:12):
the world we live in and the access is different
than the casual fans. So what I've deduced, and I
brought this up to somebody this morning, I've deduced that
the social media aspect of the astros are incensed about this,
that the astros will not be more forthcoming and more
honest about their injuries and how they what comes up

(10:33):
of them and how they're described or not described, or
you know, whether it's making the trainer available or not.
That's that's that group. That's the p one die hard
on the edge of your seat yet get enough. Well,
they're mad when a pitch hitting decision is made. So's
it's social media. So I went to people this weekend
that are either and I would not say they're not

(10:55):
on social media, but they are not running to Twitter
every fifteen seconds game. That's what their thoughts are on
the Astros, I would say. And this is a group
I probably talked to four or five people this weekend,
you know, some fathers of some daughters of my friends,
and a couple of buddies as well. Those people that
group whatever, And then again, this is a very very

(11:15):
small sample size. That group is like, Yeah, it sucks
that yourdu'ce hurt. It sucks that the Astros are not
more forthcoming with their injuries, but I want him back
because when he comes back, he's going to help this team.
So I would just say, and again, in my very
very small sector of my life, between what I see
on social media and what I see from friends who

(11:37):
I actually are real human beings, that are people that
I don't see on Twitter, that are people that I
have conversation with, ROSSI it's this sucks. I wish the
Astros is more forthcoming, but I'm not losing any sleep
over it. I can get that because especially the media
members and the people who are on social media every
day posting one hundred times with the Astros, they're invested,

(11:58):
and in ten hours or two days or whatever of
this Jordone thing dragging on feels a lot longer than
somebody who's like, I'm cooking dinner, I'm gonna flip the
game on somebody who's casual is not and not an
is invested. It's not going to be They're not going
to experience as much of the ups and downs and
the lack of information and all this stuff. It becomes

(12:19):
a drama, basically a soap opera at this point when
you're invested in every day rather than the casual fan
who's like, oh, what's the score, Let's see, let's let's
put this on for a minute, let's flip on seven ninety,
let's listen to the game, right right. So I feel like,
and I've talked about this before. I mean I've been
a fan of the Astros since nineteen seventy nine. I
mean I've been way more of a fan. I don't

(12:39):
know if it's not necessarily true because I've been the
media since nineteen ninety one. So I more of my
life has been as a member of the media than
it has been as a fan. But I can you
can be you can be both. To say you're not
a beat writer or something, yeah, so there is no
make no mistake. I am a fan of the Astros.
That's my team. It's been my only baseball team. So
I feel like I can come from two different angles,

(13:00):
and I feel like I can have two different opinions
that may not be the satisfactory answer to some. But
there is a part of me that is really upset
that the Astros don't give out more information. There's a
huge part of me that says, what are you trying
to hide? And there's also a lot of part of
me that says, this is sucks. And I know the
Astros in the left handed bat, and I know that

(13:21):
Jordan is gonna, you know, hopefully come back and pick
up where he left off. Not necessarily this year, but
your previous years. Just get back, get healthy. And if
it's seventy percent today and it's excuse me, if it's
sixty percent today and it's ninety percent in two weeks,
let us know. Then. Yeah, there's multiple sides of the
coin that we want them to be forthcoming. We want
to know and because this is something that we talk
about and we're people are writing articles about it, and

(13:44):
we fill shows with that type of content. Yeah, and
then I get the coin that they don't know you
that hey, somebody breaks their hand, that's personal information and
they don't owe it to us. But what I don't
like is when it just becomes flat out lies and
incorrect information. Either keep it, yeah, keep it close to
the vest, that's fine, or to be forthcoming that's fine.

(14:04):
But the misinformation is where I really have an issue.
So I've come up with I think a pretty down
mill down the line response to this future injury talk,
because there can be other players that are injury two.
I mean there have been. I mean look the Kyle
Tucker lack of information as well, two fractures in back
to back seasons.

Speaker 4 (14:22):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:23):
Yeah, we've chronicled, Uh, Jake Myers, it took James click
basically admitting that they brought him back too soon. I
mean that was after well after the fact. So and again,
this could be happening with a lot of different Major
League Baseball teams, a lot of sports organizations. I don't
think the Astros are in this exclusive category of keeping
things uber close. We'll talk more about this we come back.
Ten to fifteen is the time. It is the Matt
Thomas Show with Ross seven one three, two one two

(14:46):
five seven ninety. Where do you sign on this? Do
you are you the information seeker or you know what?
When he comes back, he comes back, let us know
what side you're on. Seven one three two, one, two, five,
seven ninety two. So are is there decide to pick
on when it comes to how the local baseball team
disseminates information, do you go, hey, please be more forthcoming.

(15:08):
We are your ticket holders, we are your fans, we
are vested, we care, and we're not gonna hold it
against you. I don't think giving out medical information is
intelligence that an other team can take advantage of. I mean,
if you you can't take advantage of Jordan not being

(15:28):
in the line I mean, obviously, again, teams will be
disappointed or will be happy that he's not playing because
he's been beating up teams for a better p out
of five or six years. But it's not like the
game playing differently because Jordan Alvarez is not in the lineup.
So after talking with some friends and like I said,
I tried to find people that were on social media,
but not like you know, look Ross, you and I
live and breathe it because it is the easiest way

(15:50):
for us to communicate with our audience. And it's also, yeah,
for the most part, a great place to find information
mm hmm, and hilarity at times, yeah, yes, and anger
and a well a lot of anger. A lot, a
lot of anger. So I've thought about this, and I
was thinking about this again driving into work today. We

(16:10):
will continue to ask the questions about player injuries, will
continue to ask whether it's a minor ailment like a
Zach Decenzo, or it's a major element like Luis Garcia
or Jordan Alvarez, Chas mccorman, whatever. But I'm going to
unfortunately take everything with a grain of salt because more

(16:32):
times than not, the information that is being given out
by the organization does not really match the end result.
Now again, they're not the people that are speaking on
behalf of the astros are not doctors. The only people
that can really give you the prognosis of a potential
of a player's ailment and how long. First of all,
it's two things. Everybody's human body is different. I may
take three weeks to recover from something. You may take

(16:54):
you five or six, so it's inexact science or flip it.
You may be done in two or three days ross
and I may take you too. I know it make
you feel better now, thank you. But asking none baseball people,
I mean non medical people, how someone's going to recuperate
from something unless they're getting it straight from the source,

(17:14):
and they're probably holding a lot of it back. So
I'm taking everything I hear from baseball personnel and PR people,
and that concludes Joe and Dana, who I respect tremendously.
I'm gonna take all of it with a grain of salt.
I just can't fully go, oh, thank goodness Joe said
this or Dana said this, because you've probably been burning
more times than not off of that. And again, I

(17:36):
don't blame them. There's some dynamic, whether it's the athlete,
whether it's protecting the athlete, or it's protecting the medical staff.
There is a lint. There is a line of protection
that is over this organization, and it's everybody. It's every organization.
I mean, I'm sure the Rockets have done things in
the past that have been like what's really going on,

(17:57):
or the Texans or any other sports teams that that
you may or may not be fans of, But it
just feels like this has been a recurring theme the
last handful of years, and so I go, you know what,
how am I supposed to believe you? So I guess
what I'm not. It's you wanna call it a one off,

(18:17):
but it keeps happening. We go to the Kyle Tucker thing,
then we go to this and and then they tell
us this story about discomfort and the swelling has to
go down, and then all of a sudden there's a
fracture and and like it feels like the same old story.
It's it's very bizarre that this keeps happening. It's and
I just don't get it. It is a show real.

(18:39):
I just don't get it. And again, it's not going
to ruin my passion for the baseball No, it's not
going to ruin my passion for the sport. The Astros
won yesterday in that you know, low scoring affair. It
was exciting to see them beat the race that ninth
inning with that pit with that tailor dude from the
race that got toast for tapping his cat. I mean,

(19:01):
that is that is amazing. That's why I love baseball.
And I want the Astros to win. I want them
to win the division they are. I want them to
get at least a wild cart, and I want us
to have a good old time talking about them and
what they're gonna do and trials and tribulations. But in
a six month season where there's hundreds of storylines. This
is just not a great one and it's not enjoyable

(19:23):
to discuss. I'm disappointed that the organization has gone in
this direction, but it is what it is, and I
think it frustrates probably the Beat writers, clearly it does,
because all they're doing is trying to get information. Chadler
and Brian and Matt those are the three Beat guys.
Do they're not? I know all I know two of
the three of them extraordinarily well. I don't know Matt

(19:44):
very well. It seems like a nice enough guy. He's
a swell fella. Yeah. Uh, They're not going to get
get you moments. They're they're as much as you think.
Chandler is a guy that likes to chide people and
get which he does. But if he's a professional, but
he's a professional who's just trying to do his job.
They're trying to do their That's the way that I

(20:05):
I was gonna say the exact same thing. They're just
trying to do their jobs. And these astods organization, relative
to some others, aren't as forthcoming with injury type news,
and so when you're a beat reporter, you're a conduit
to the fans. You're supposed to be. It's you're on
the beat, you're supposed to be talking about what's happening
every day. People would say, if they weren't asking the

(20:27):
questions about the injuries, they would go to the beat reporters.
They would say, Chandler, Matt and Brian, why aren't you
asking how JR dun is? So by default they have
to do it right. And we certainly do as when
we talked to Joe on every Tuesday and he gives
us updates, and I'm sure Sean does that with Dana
as well. But the philosophy of the organization is less

(20:49):
is more, and maybe we aren't being And again I
don't know if it's truthful. I don't I don't think
they're lying intentionally. There what's the Purposely there is a
purple and then there's a fracture. It doesn't make sense
for the media, It just doesn't. Yeah, they're not gonna lie,
They're just they're just not going to give you the
stuff that you want. So that's the that's the balance.

(21:10):
And again, ultimately, I think for most people that listen
to this show, they want to know about the good stuff.
They want to know the good. You know, if camp
Smith's starting to hit the ball a lot better, you know,
as Hunter Brown a legitimate sion candidate. So we're gonna
do the good and the bad. But it's just it
was just a really weird weekend from he hits in

(21:30):
the cage on Friday to getting he's close, He's close.
I Brian Mttacker even show went to the lineup car
like you did on Saturday and says, no, you're on
the lineup today. Okay, well that's maybe he needs a
day off just to close. Yeah, maybe it's maybe Sunday.
Maybe it's in somewhere in the Pittsburgh Cleveland trip. And
then all of a sudden, Dana goes up there in
the back of the dugout and has to have a
ten minute old conversation with a bunch of medias saying

(21:53):
he's sixty percent and it's now got a fracture. Tough,
but that's what additional media, and that's But also, you know,
when you're a successful team, people care about this stuff.
You have a bigger fan baser that that really does care.
We did have times when nobody cared if anybody was
had any refractured I don't think you could have nine

(22:13):
members of the Rockies with fractured parts of their body
and no one in Denver would care so And we'll
obviously get to more of that later, but most importantly,
the Astros did split the series. They are a half
game out of first place. They have a day off
today and then they'll start a three game series with
the Pittsburgh Pirates starting on Tuesday from the Steel City.
All Right, ten twenty nine on Sports Talk seven ninety.

(22:37):
The things we're gonna get to today is that Tampa
Bay Ray who got injected last night. That was I
put this out on Twitter when had happened. It was
one of the best ejections dit versity in my life
because Taylor Walls. I don't even know who Taylor Walls
is now, by the way, he doesn't like a Taylor
looks like a bubba Bubba Walls, Okay, that's what you
can call him. Yeah, Like he will come after me

(22:58):
like that. Huh? Was he wearing camouflage in the batter's
box or I think he had some something between his
chicken gums, so ch'all. I think he's just a fringe
major leaguer from what I understood. Okay, so if you
didn't see what happened and uh he got the strike
one call on him was horrific. I mean, ross, it

(23:19):
wasn't even close it what if you look at the
uh well it depends on that. Yeah, on the on
the astros screen, it looks like it wasn't even close.
But I saw one of the MLB basically from the
MLB app and it looks it is actually super close.
It was. I'm looking at what I saw on TV.

(23:43):
On the TV, it looks worse than when you go.
And I believe that the MLB dot com dat is
supposed to be like the real Okay, good, real box,
that's good. But from my eyes watching the game, it
was horror. It was a shoelace strike call. He obviously
mister mister Walls was not pleased. Take a step out
of the box. Oh yeah, that's yeah. I mean you're MLB.

(24:04):
That's that's close. That's not That's not how I saw it.
But again, I will trust the data. We're gonna trust
data about millimeters. And then he taps his helmet three times,
which is the international sign of I want it reviewed.
The umpire calmly goes from the back of home plate
to the front of it and turns around and stares
up to the up to the press box, and I

(24:26):
guess he said, you can't do that, get the hell
out or whatever it was. And that's when Taylor Wells
lost his mind. Yeah, and I mean he's lying. He's
he didn't tap in his helmet. He can come on, man,
completely showed the umpire up and yes, and I know
that these umpires don't think they make any mistakes. I

(24:47):
have the feeling there that missed. The empire behind home
plate feels terrible about what the call was. And again
maybe the data will say wasn't that bad of a
miss after all? But to tap and say I was
just adjusing my helmet is a flat out liner. Remember
what I tell you, The average person lies four times
a day. Tyler Wells lied, Taylor ted, I don't know

(25:07):
matter its call when I'd be worrying about his Hall
of Fame speech, but I don't think so. Man. It's
it's funny because he's acting like he didn't do it.
Come on, man, he got you cut in four K correct.
You can see this replay and over the game. It
was on Tampa TV, Houston TV and anybody that wanted

(25:29):
to watch on the extra innings package saw it. You're
a liar, It's all right, yeah, own it. So yeah,
I go check the data. And then somebody sent me
a tweet said, well, you know, he spent a lot
of time in the minor leagues. Maybe he forgot whe
he was. Yeah. I don't think when you have the
word raise across your jersey and you're playing in front
of forty thousand people, you kind of know where you are.
If he'd ha done it immediately, I might be able

(25:51):
to buy that. But he he barks the referee or like,
I mean, no referee the he he like kind of
looks at him, says a couple of things and then
does it.

Speaker 5 (25:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (25:59):
Yeah, like I'm gonna show you up. Yeah, let's talk
to We're going to Lufky. We're going to the heart
of East Texas. Oh wow, fifteen tournaments of my house.
Jeff on seven ninety Jeff, good morning.

Speaker 5 (26:11):
Good morning, guys. Thanks for taking my call. I just
actually turned you on, but I think you had been
or caught you briefly a few minutes ago talking about
the Goordon deal and all that. My question to you, guys, is,
and it kind of goes back to the Kyle Tucker saga.
They say, well, we did some further imaging or our

(26:32):
players being sent to what discount imaging or whatever? Why
don't they do all of that to begin with? When
they're assessing these guys injuries, you know, they come back
and say, well, kind of upon a further review, he
does have a fracture. Well, couldn't we find that out
in the beginning. I don't understand. I think we can

(26:52):
get the best medical attention available anyway. That's all I
have on it.

Speaker 1 (26:58):
Yeah. Thanks, That's what this is hard to figure out
because it seems like when mistakes are made with the
astros and medical stuff, it's players either trying to play
through things or being rolled on, admitted, or being rushed
through things. Yeah, he says, I wanted to play you know,
I want to play through this, and the astro said, yeah,

(27:18):
we try to let you play through this. And even
Dana admitted so much of the weekend that maybe that
was a mistake, and you know what, and that's I
can respect some of that because there are too many
players in professional sports that under any if some if
if an index finger hurts, I gotta miss four or
five days. So there is a certain level of respect
for players who want to play through pain, But at

(27:39):
a certain level you have to to say, is this
pain gonna go away? Is there any sides of it?
Of Uh, the swelling going down? Is it still an issue?
And if it is, shut, shut, shut your body down
for a while. Yeah, clearly this was mishandled at some point. Exactly.
We're not doctors, so we can't tell you the exact point.
We didn't look at the imaging. Like we said last week,

(28:01):
we don't know a thing. Went to FedEx Kinkos to
get the X ray. We don't know, but something ain't right.
Could you imagine Jordon walking into a Kinkos and walking
to Kikos. I'm gona doing it for a rinkos. Rinkos. Sorry,
I would like to put my right hand hands hurt
my hand, my hands on your on the printer? Will
that be color or they'll be black and white? Yeah,

(28:22):
I don't know. I'm just telling you. My philosophy now
is questions. Will we continue to answer get asked, they'll
be answered. I'm I'm going to not give anybody the
benefit that I'm going to say when Jordan Alvarez is
on the field in the lineup card, we'll celebrate it. Yeah,
but to kind of try to you know, you always

(28:43):
show that term sooner rather than later. I hate that term,
as you know, more than anything.

Speaker 6 (28:47):
M M.

Speaker 1 (28:48):
That's why I like to use it. I know you do.
You you egged me out with it. I'm just telling you,
I ain't going with that. I ain't buying it. I
ain't if somebody tells me it could be another three
or four days, don't believe it. When he gets in
the lineup and this is for any athlete, yes, I'll
then I'll celebrate it, but I'm done going. Oh I'm
hearing encouraging things because I don't. I don't believe anymore.

(29:08):
I just don't.

Speaker 4 (29:10):
No.

Speaker 1 (29:10):
And we said the same thing last year with this
Kyle Tucker thing. Yeah, we've been here before, and probably
Kyle's getting pissed, like, man, I'm really in pain here,
tell him a fractured let him know I'm not some
you know, soft wooss because because Kyle was worrying because
there were people like, oh, your done it? What's he doing?
Was he waiting for being soft? Because there was the

(29:31):
comments from Joe's body used it and Dana Brown used it.
We're waiting for him. We're waiting for him to tell
us he's good to go, which implies medical clearance. Yes,
it does. I'm not implying anymore. Yeah, here's what I'm done, ROSSI.
I'm not implying anymore. I'm not assuming anymore. I'm not
predicting anymore. I'm not forecasting anymore. I'm done with all

(29:51):
that unless it's Tommy John. There you go, hey, old
Tommy John. Okay, I'll give you one l twelve to
sixteen months. I'm forecasting sixteen every single the time. It's
been since June of twenty three for Luis Garcia. Yeah, okay,
then I was wrong twenty four months for him for
multiple setbacks? Was he a rushback? Oscar seven ninety, Good morning.

Speaker 7 (30:13):
LA's enjoying the show as always this morning.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
Thank you.

Speaker 7 (30:17):
I have got to say, I like a lot of
the fans. Sometimes I hear comments from a few folks
with the astros, and maybe I don't understand why they
might not come full out with information about injuries. But
I do know this, and there's one thing that no

(30:39):
caller will ever convince me otherwise, the astros are run
by a billionaire, Their players are tremendous assets. They are
not going to some dock in the box on the
corner that's opened twenty four hours a day, seven days
a week and take and walk in pay since to

(31:01):
have their players analyzed, tested and run the full gamut
of the greatest medical facilities and doctors that this city,
in fact, this state, this country, this world has to offer.
And when I hear these kind of phone calls, I
have to just chuckle a little bit to think that

(31:22):
they would do anything but do the very very best
for their players. Now, why we don't always get the answers?
I would suggest to you guys, maybe get some people
on every now and then some doctors that could talk
about that. Not Castro's doctors, but some that could be impartial.

Speaker 1 (31:40):
Well, yes, a lot of time, it's funny to bring
you bring that up, Oscar, because you when you try
and do that, doctors typically not all of them, but
typically will say I can't give you a prognosis off
of something I've never seen from the imaging right. So
that and they don't want to put themselves out there
to say, well, doctor A from this place says that

(32:01):
your un should have been out there when doctor A
never saw any of the graphs or any of the
X rays or any of that. So that's why it's
very difficult for it.

Speaker 7 (32:09):
I get that, But here's my point on that. I'm
not asking him to give a prognosis. I'm asking him.
Maybe the question would be to them, is there many
times something that you see in these X rays or
in these MRIs or in these cat scans that looks
one way and you find out six weeks later because
a tissue damage or whatever appears a different way. Does

(32:34):
that make sense?

Speaker 1 (32:35):
It does? And I've seen a couple of different folks
on Twitter saying that I am a doctor and this
has happened to me, and then other people have said
that again, it really runs both directions. How do you
put him out there even for batting practice when I
mean he had to have been pain free, right, Yeah,

(32:57):
you'd have to think so you would have to assume
that he is pain free on Friday when he went
to the batting cage. Why would you if you don't
feel good, are you being pressured to get out there?
I don't think so. I don't think the gastros are
doing that. So some of this is on the player
to say, I feel great, I'm gonna go out there.
But if he did go out there and wasn't feeling

(33:20):
his best, and then then then that's that's on the athlete.
And again who's to say whose fault it is? And
the necessarily doesn't that be a fault? But the if
nd statement, if he's ready to swing the bat and
he's been swinging off the t, he's been all these
sorts of things progressing along Nane nicely. How does it
all of a sudden we come back as a fracture
the next day? That that, to me is is the

(33:41):
part that my medical license does not necessarily COMPREHENDI yeah,
I haven't got to that chapter yet. Yeah, all right
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
to one three two one two five seven. Unty, I'm
kind of exhausted about something. But I saw him over
the weekend. I mean, I get to it right this second,
But I'm telling you it was a lot of it

(34:03):
was too much coverage of one event. Does that make
sense to you, Sports Harvey, I'm intrigued, Matt. That's what
I'm here for, it to intrigue you seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven ninety If you want to follow
us on Twitter that we'd certainly love to have you there.
It is at sports MT, at sports RVY, and at

(34:23):
uh Jonathan. You're on Twitter. I think I followed you
the day. What is your Twitter account? And do you
ever twitter anything? Tweet anything?

Speaker 3 (34:29):
I don't tweet anything, but my handle is just JK
Underscore Allen. But I don't I don't really tell you
that I don't follow. Then you're wasting your time.

Speaker 2 (34:36):
Man.

Speaker 1 (34:36):
All right, let's talk about Berkeley Ice Center was running
through the news headlines if that anybody cares. But Boise
State is leaving the Mountain West to go to the
PAC twelve. What I know there is I thought the
Pack TUEB was dead. Well, they're gonna rebuild it. We're back, baby.
I think that's three teams. I thought it was just
Washington State. So here are the new pack twell teams,

(34:58):
Washington State, or State, oh Man, boyse U State, Colorado State,
Fransno State, San Diego State, Utah State. That's basically Mountain
West Conference, just with a new name on. Yeah, we've
heard ESPN has been one dollar for the rights packages
Greg Sanky commissioners like, so what does this mean for us? Nothing?
Goodbye that Lebron give him him going, oh, I'm so scared.

(35:20):
Put your games on the WUB knock yourself out, or
come on, Matt, put a UPN while they're at it.
Not the Michigan j Frog network anymore. It's the c
W fifty five of the tube. I believe has has
acquired the rights to the Pack twelve Pro Game two
B PAC twelve Game of the Week. But Matt Thomas
on the call that might actually happen. Let me tell

(35:42):
if I can go to the past. Twob is owned
by Fox. I didn't know that, Okay, yeah, oh no, no,
what's the one that was? What's the one on Sunday Moeks?

Speaker 8 (35:48):
Wait?

Speaker 1 (35:51):
Oh, they have the baseball games on oh Roku Roku,
the Roku Game of the Week Broku channel. It's on
QVCGA Soult Tennis bracelets with it. The top five two
teams in the in the Mountain West are and there
in the PAC twelve. Don't meet on CBS, don't meet
on NBC, don't meet on ABC, don't mean on ESPN,
r F s one. It's nacks on Roku. What I mean,

(36:14):
good for them, I mean it is what it is.
But you're just read just going from one min to
the other. They don't even have a theme.

Speaker 9 (36:21):
It just goes, this is the Roku channel and we're
gonna put a Pack twelve game on it in the
Mountain West that I'm a goopy dog doing the wishing
them the best, wishing the best.

Speaker 1 (36:33):
Man, if i'm Boys State Bronco, I might as well
I'm beating my chez. We're Packed twelve. Maybe we're powerful.
You're playing the on the on the blue field tonight.
They're like, shut your bomass up. There's no such thing. Hell,
there's only there's barely a Power four. Greg sank you
CEC Commissioner and be like, yeah, we're gonna be good
with uh the Big twelve, I mean the Big ten
of the SCC and the rest of y'all can play
a long if you want. It's like a Power plus.

(36:55):
It's like how you have to subscribe to everything now
ESPN plus it's power pull up, Power two plus, Power four.
I don't know. It's very confusing. Yeah, I'm confused, all right,
So I just I just saw that. I actually kind
of giggled. I was like, Oh, the boys State's going
to good for them, Pack twelve with the rest of the
other schools that left the Mountain West Big ten and
SEC are power four plus, power four plus. Well, there's

(37:17):
just you just call them the two, all those SEC
I'm surprised Gordy is not raining here to trying to
defend the SEC's honor baseball. Yeah, it's a game of inches.
Seven to fourth on a game of inches. That was
a beat That was a beatdown until the Longhorns score too.
And then I listened to the game on the radio.
You did, I did, Craig doug here, No, okay, I

(37:41):
listened on the APPS. All right, well that's fine, Okay,
we had how about a Fresco on or something? Uh,
what do we have on Sunday night? Could we put
the game on? I guess we could have. But what
is the college baseball radio audience? Probably minimum you would
have tuned in? Well, I was one. I was listening
to the Austin station. So part of the proud iHeartRadio family.

(38:02):
All right, seven one three two one two five seven, Honey,
So I tease this and we'll do to the top
of the hour. There's something that happened a lot this weekend,
and I was getting a little exhausted about You ever
see something where you're looking forward to something on television
and then it becomes too much, Like maybe I need
to step away. That's what I did this week. I
need further explanation. You're gonna get it in a matter

(38:23):
of moments. To Tell the Truth is coming up in
one half hour. I can't get enough of Lauren Shahai.
We can definitely have a lot of that on there.
She's just delightful. See well I did to say that
out loud, Okay, I'll keep it to myself. I mean
she's she's doing a great job. She's we don't have
the volume on, but she's doing fantastic. She's network level,

(38:43):
network talent level, MLB network strong, strong network. It's the
slogan should be with the games, mean not as much
of the girls. It's the top talent. I mean they're
not girls, they're women. It's TV's top talent that were
by far ten seven ninety. Wait to tell the Truth

(39:04):
coming up in a half an hour from now, Ross,
I will give you four sports takes. I will believe
three of them, there's only one I don't believe, all right?
For you to sign which one? I'm not telling the truth? Wait?
What was the oldest time? Look at you jumping in
let's go? Yeah? Has he got to win yet? You

(39:24):
know what? He's too busy texts sex and his girl.
Second thing, I miss you baby, that's not a sex Well,
forget it all right? Anyways, to tell the truth coming
up at eleven, program will believe Jonathan? Three one I
will not believe to be for you to decide which
one I don't believe, all right? So uh, Game number

(39:50):
six of the Eastern Conference Finals took place on Sunday
night or Saturday night, and the Pacers won and knocked
out the Nicks, and the Pacers and the Oklahoma Sydney
Thunder will be playing for the NBA Championship. Indianapolis versus
Oklahoma City, I want to say those are two of
the bottom five media markets. I want to say Indianapolis

(40:11):
has got to be about twenty five maybe, and then
in Okamis has got to be about forty somewhere in
that range and maybe off a little bit on those,
but that'd be my guestimation. Oh, by the way.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Yeah, probably the biggest gut feeling in your entire Oh yeah.

Speaker 1 (40:29):
Why don't you say it tomorrow? No, no, that's true
today all week, it's all week celebration. I see how
he is. So the game was over and that was
the final time in thirty six years the NBA and
the TNT will have come to a close. They have.

(40:53):
And this is weird because I'm a I'm a TV
sports geek. This may come as a surprise to none
of you, but I was not a big social butterfly
when I was in high school, especially younger. As I
got older in high school, I was involved, but blossomed. Yeah,
my weight did blossom too, but that's a different issue
for a different time. So my freshman year and sophomore year,

(41:14):
I did not go out and have quote unquote dates.
I wasn't going to dances.

Speaker 10 (41:18):
Uhuh.

Speaker 1 (41:19):
Me and my buddies would watch the NBA and TNT.
We'd grab we get pizza. Yes, we'd rote take different
guys' houses and we'd go watch doubleheaders of basketball on
Friday nights. The NBA and TNT was like, you're giving
me a cable package of all these games that I
normally would only see on the weekends on CBS. This
is amazing. So it was a little bittersweet for me

(41:40):
to see the last TNT game. Now again, the contract
for the NBA for the t new TV deals ten years,
so in theory it's probably gonna be longer than that.
But so it was a little surreal. And they've done
an excellent job. You've had guys like Vern Lundquist, Marv Albert, Kevin, Harlan,
Dick Stockton, I mean, all the legendary goat broadcasters. So

(42:01):
it's a little surreal. And that, to me was the
saddest part about Saturday's game. Beyond the result itself, was
this network which basically took over when Michael Jeffrey Jordan
was really going and got going and made this what
it is today. And look TNT is in its NBA
brain has been magnificent for many, many decades. Obviously, that

(42:24):
to me was the sad part of it. The inside
the NBA guys, that part of it to me was
a little overdone. Why you may ask, because all four
of those dudes are still employed. Yes, they're going to
be on a different network. You would hope that ESPN

(42:47):
wouldn't rock the boat in terms of changing its format
or how they do it. But they're gonna be all
in the same spot. A matter of fact, they're not
even going to Bristol. Can I get where ESPN is.
They're going to do their show from Atlanta and they're
gonna send it on a satellite feed at Bristol to
air from there. Now, they may not be as hon
as much. They're only gonna do I think games after
the first jun January. They may do a couple of

(43:08):
games on Christmas and some big super games, but they're
gonna work less than they did this year. You know,
for years, those guys will work every Thursday night. I
think Charles said third to half of the season or something. Yeah,
something like that. So they're gonna work. They're gonna be
less games, which may make it more fun because it'll
be nice to have those guys on the bigger games
compared to them doing a Memphis Charlotte game or something
like that. They'll actually know the players, but none of

(43:29):
them are out of work. They've all signed new contracts.
They're all insanely rich and got richer, and so to me,
I thought the farewell to inside the NBA. Part of
the NBA and T and T was a little overdone.
I could see that. Yeah, and they're also I think
they're doing another show on T and T. It's gonna
be I don't know if it's gonna be like a
like a first take style NBA style with those guys.

(43:52):
They're gonna they're gonna be on another show, so they're yeah,
they're not going away. So it was I didn't watch it,
so they was basically like, great run, guys, is the best.
It was almost like it was a farewell. And even
when Ernie Johnson said what he said, he says, our
crew stands here. Yes, we've got people that are on
this crew that are gonna get jobs at Amazon or
people are gonna jobs at an NBC. I mean, now

(44:13):
I'm great. I'm assuming that some people will be lost
in the shuffle. I mean that just comes with a
natural move moving a year after year. But it felt
like to me that everybody was just like, yeah, it's sad.
But to me, the biggest storyline of the team of
the weekend was not the inside the NBA show. It
was the game coverage, which was exemplary. I mean, you

(44:35):
had HB. Brown, you had Chuck Daily, you had Steve
Kerr when he was doing games. You've had you know,
Reggie saying, give her take on Reggie, he's better. But
my point is that they did an excellent job. And
I have Kevin Arland and Iron Eagle calling games and
Brian Anderson, now I mean top shelf people that I

(44:56):
admire as broadcasters. There was nobody on those broadcasts and
I said, man, you're a fish out. Even Chris Weber
was good until he became a demon. Then he eventually
got the hook from there. But my point is that
I would have liked to have had them spend more
time talking about the game coverage, because that's what tn
T is losing. That's what we as fans are losing.
We're going to see a different brand of broadcasting with
NBC and Amazon. But the TNT brand was excellent for

(45:18):
thirty six years. I guess to me, it's kind of
always been there, so it's not as special. I'm just like,
all right, well we're bringing back John Tesh and NBC,
so Amazon and yeah. I brought this up on Twitter.
I think that the coverage next year is going to
be fantastic. I think ANBC did a great job. Peacock's
is gonna did a great job. Amazon. Amazon's NFL coverage

(45:39):
is awesome. I mean, these networks they're going to are
not startups. You're putting Mike Turko on the main game.
You're gonna yeah, oh yeah, you're good. You're putting You're
putting the lineups back on when the team's going, when
the games are on NBC, they're going to carry those
starting lineups from the P and M. So you want

(46:00):
to go back and do PA now, don't you know chance.
I'm very happy doing what I'm doing. I don't want
to move. I'm very happy. But you're gonna get more
games again. I don't know if people are not necessarily here,
but if you're an NBA junkie, you're gonna get more
games than you ever have done before. You're gonna have
You're gonna have NBA games on about six days a week.
I love it so for you and I who are junkies,
it's great. To the casual fan, it's when the one

(46:22):
of the Rockets playing and I'm done. But I just
thought it was it was a lot about if there
was any moment that should have been the moment, it
should have been Ernie, who has been a Turner employee
all the way through and remains a Turner employee. Not
that these four guys won't see each other again. You're
gonna be right back on our television. My guess. It

(46:44):
just felt like to me it was oversaturation of that
portion of the broadcast. So again this maybe I'm just
in the weeds on this, but I can see no,
I can see how it ring hollow if they're just
they're not going away. They weren't going away. We just
way back press a different channel number, or just open
a different app however you want to. We're gonna go.
We're gonna go to a channel that we're more familiar with. Yes,

(47:04):
I mean, I know two forty five S and T
I know two o six. You know. The crazy thing
about this, I don't know if people know this or not,
but next year, this upcoming season, you're gonna see Big
twelve football and basketball games on tn t Okay, that
was a trade off coming up next it's bones followed
by Houston versus West Virginia exactly. Isn't that weird that

(47:29):
they that the TNT is like, all right, we'll help
you do this and we'll produce everything. But we need
something back from you. We need some games. So they're
gonna get some games. Oh good for them, now, Grant,
I don't know how good the games are gonna be.
It might be Utah versus Arizona. I don't know, but
I can tell you from a basketball stampole it will
be great because they'll be you know, you'll have a

(47:50):
T and T. I'm sure they're gonna do a big
job of selling the college basketball package because they people
are gonna go. They're gonna just gonna be on their
studio show. I don't know, but I think I think
grand Hill's gonna be part the broadcast. So I'm just saying,
I just it was just weird that you would sell
a show for a set of games. It's like I
think Al Michael's going to NBC involved a cartoon going

(48:11):
back to ABC Flintstones. I don't know what it was,
but you go Google look it up. There's some strange
transactions on that that just I just think TV sports
business is kind of fascinating to me. That's all I
got on it. Thank you, Matt, thank you, you appreciate it. Yeah,
but yeah, for somebody I watched for thirty six, I
mean I watched. I was in the seventh eighth grade,
so I know I watched every bit of the TNT

(48:32):
that I could. All Right, Astro's gonna win yesterday, Hunter Brown,
Cy Brown, Cy Valdez. Do you understand you know who
did the tenth Inning show on Friday night? Oh, so
you appreciated it. Two hours and six minutes, I heard
a lot of people were clamoring for me to host
that show. Yeah, you know, we had two people that
said they missed you. That's great. I appreciate that. And

(48:56):
I quickly said that you were suspended without pay and
that you well hopefully get back to work with a
better attitude. I guess technically I was suspended without pay
because I wasn't on the clock. No, you got paid, Okay,
I think you got paid right, all right, but yeah,
it was a good win quick the night before they
get their ass kicked, the night after they get their
ass kicked. It's it just shows you how crazy baseball is. Bizarre.

(49:18):
I what was it, thirty to nine they got outscored
or something like that in the series. Yeah, I'll go
back and look. Bullpen, e Ra David and A Leaf
was one of our Twitter five. I said, you guys
don't want to calculate it. Well, you calculated it not
looking good. Well, it's funny because you take those two games,
and all of a sudden, that filthy era the Astros
Bullpen had got heavily inflated. Yeah, that's that's why I,

(49:42):
especially for relievers, era can be a little wonky. Well, yeah,
because again you're you could pitch six good innings of
one one inning and give up four and one, and
all of a sudden you have an era of you know,
five and a half. Yeah, you did your job seventy
five percent times as a reliever. By the way, Josh
Hayter continues to be filthy. How many all stars going
right now? Hater for sure, Jake Myers, Hunter Brown for sure.

(50:03):
Jeremy Penia. Jeremy Penia is probably the mix now. By
the way, a lot of people are clamboring for Jimmie,
for the Astros to put a deal on for Jeremy Penia.
I think that the ship has sailed. I think so,
I unless the deal is really really rewarding. Let me
check the old reference page too. He was a representation
is well, go look at his arbitration years. Yeah, I

(50:24):
don't know if he's there at this point, but uh
if if he's not, they better start talking about it immediately,
because you know what, he has solved the Astros leadoff problems.
His agent isn't listed normally they do it. I believe
it's I believe it's Thomas Sports Enterprise. Yeah, you'd like
to get I'd like to change absolutely seven one three

(50:46):
two one two five seven outy seven one three two
one two five seven ninety Is the Astros do their thing?
Split the series of the Rays or a half game
back of Seattle. The Astros have the day off. I
believe the Mariners do as well. Let me check real
quick for you. Oh come on, you're scoreboard watching on
June second. Oh you're kidding me. You're sick. I have
an illness, I really really know. Uh. Yeah, the Mariners

(51:09):
do not play tonight, but they will begin Oh no,
never mind. Oh they're home for Baltimore starting Tuesday. Baltimore sucks.
Baltimore sucks. Would you go oh for I misread Mariners
and Marlins because Marlins are playing the Rockies. I was like, oh,
some easy wins for them? Is that a Roku Game
of the Week Marlin's Rockies. I don't think anybody's gotta

(51:32):
watch that Marlin's Rockies happens. I mean, I mean nobody cares.
Did it really ever happen?

Speaker 7 (51:37):
Mat?

Speaker 1 (51:37):
Yeah? Do you even put the pronouncers on? Do you
even pay them?

Speaker 2 (51:40):
Now?

Speaker 1 (51:40):
They're talking to themselves. She's running a crowd, Mike. That's
very good ambient noise the whole time, seven one three,
two one two five seven night. If you want to
join our show, we're an open line here on this Monday,
giving us a chance to recap all that was. And
by the way, are we worried at all about the
television ratings? And we're worried about people not caring about
those NBA finals because it is two of the three
small marks team, two of the smallest in the league.

(52:02):
You know who's not worried about it? The NBA. They
got a fresh tenure, ridiculously large financial contract coming from
two new networks. By the way, Okay, now, of course
there's only twenty eight markets because there's two LA teams too,
New Yorker rights. The Oklahoma City is twenty six out
of twenty eight, twenty second out of twenty eight for Indiana,
who is the two smallest Sacramento in Memphis and New Orleans.

(52:26):
That's why Las Vegas is needed. It's it's fine. Look
if everybody's if the ratings are low, who cares. It's
gonna be great basketball. I'm gonna be watching. Problem is
I got news for you? Well, we'll say it. Oh
will we come back? It's eleven fourteen on Sports Talk
seven ninety eleven. That nineteen amre on Sports Talk seven

(52:47):
ninety ros Viry out back with you. We got to
tell the truth. Coming up in the next segment, Matt
Thomas will give us four opinions. He believes three of them.
Writing down Jonathan he belie leaves three of them one
he does not believe. That should be fun coming up
at eleven thirty. Phone lines open right now if you
want to get in. We've been talking about the Astros,

(53:10):
the series split where they got two blowouts, two one
run victories against the Tampa Bay Rays, anything else you
want to get to. The yord on hand saga certainly
is a complicated issue, and I don't know a lot
a lot of meat on the bone to argue and
discuss when it comes to the yord on hand thing

(53:30):
as well, seven one three two one two five seven
ninety is the phone number if you'd like to get
in seven to one three two one two five seven ninety.
So you missed the fun on Thursday and Friday during
Texans OTA's what was what scene? Friday? Oh yeah, I
hadn't talked? Is everything? What's happening? What's happening to my

(53:51):
sweet boy? C? J? Stroud? Is he okay? Almost texts Yeah,
So Wednesday he didn't partake and you were here for
that short show. It didn't he didn't. They didn't make
the media available on Thursday. If my concern level was small,
those zero basically right now, it's so so Thursday, they
don't that the media see it. Friday he goes back.

(54:13):
Now Wednesday, Damiko Ryan says he's on a throwing schedule.
It's a throwing program, meaning maybe Monday, Wednesday, Friday, you
throw Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, rest okay whatever. Didn't really super
by it, like I'm not buying a lot of things.
When it comes to teams in their injury situation, that's
just gonna say they have the same doctors as the astros.

(54:33):
So he doesn't throw again on Friday. Does the handoffs
this okay, and Nick Kayley, the offensive coordinator, says, hey,
I'm not concerned at all. Why does that make me
feel worse? So he's not concerned. So there are dumb
ass non media members that go to Texans that practices

(54:56):
that should not be credential because they're not a media member. Okay,
don't know why they get him. So I make if
you guys want to go to Texans practice, just send
an email of the textants. They'll let you in and
call you media because they let someones talk dot just
make up a website. But you should be good. You
should be good. That's not the point of the conversation.
Point ever, is it? Never is? So Anon was like,
it's a nut story, don't bring it up. It's free.

(55:18):
First of all, when you're starting quarterback, doesn't throw during
organized team activities because maybe he doesn't feel great, something
got cleaned out, maybe doesn't fill one hundred percent. Say
it and you're done. Yes, very easy, it's very very
easy to quell fears. Just come out and say something
because guess what, thirty one other teams had OTA's and

(55:39):
their quarterbacks. Yeah, so throwing schedules kind of cool, But
it wasn't necessarily the truth. Thank god Aaron Wilson came
to the rescue. What did Aaron Wilson say? Aaron Wilson
said he was not throwing because of tight shoulder muscle,
not considered serious, no concerns whatsoever, and could return to

(56:00):
activity as soon as next week. I by that because
this weekend, did you see CJ.

Speaker 2 (56:06):
Stroud?

Speaker 1 (56:07):
No, he was he over it to the Fertita Center
shooting baskets. That's different. Now, if you'd have told me
he was throwing VP to ord On Alvarez, it might
have been a little a little better. So let me
tell you, fake media, go ahead and some blinders on

(56:28):
Texans fans. When your quarterback doesn't throw, it's a story.
It's a story. I'm sorry you don't think it is.
But you can say on your podcast it's not a story.
I can say on my radio show it's a small story.
And guess what when Aaron Wilson came out and said
he found out it's because he's got some right, it's
got some soreness, right, muscle soreness. That's okay. I'm living

(56:53):
with that. When I saw that, I didn't go ahh,
I went shoot because guess what do you know what
CJ's throw a Stroud does for most of his season,
he uses right shoulder and he throws the ball a
lot practices, scrimmages and in games. And my guess is
the human body says we need rest, and the right

(57:14):
shoulder said, you're a little tight. Fine relix. So I'm
telling you, you're telling me to you battle at Ross. Yes,
need not worry, all right, but you don't. But you
don't believe me, doctor Thomas. I'm a little bit worried,
just a little bit.

Speaker 11 (57:28):
Now.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
I'll say this shoulders can be bad if he doesn't
throw during MENI camp, which is next month. Then you
saw the alarms and even the fake ass meat. He
can't get mad about that. Okay, So but to tell
me it was a throwing program and it wasn't his day, Yeah,

(57:52):
I would you know what I would have done Ross
when when that came out out and said, you know,
let's have a throwing program where you actually throw so
people don't smell the scent of you not being on
here percent. Okay, maybe be okay, maybe I'm more worried
about I think if Pitcher's shoulder injuries can be really
bad like laboral tears and stuff like that can be
But even Rossi if he got things cleaned out. Let's
say that he got scoped in the office. So I'd

(58:12):
be okay with that because that's very typical for NFL
quarterbacks to happen. That was not one hundred percent in
the off season. Yeah, I mean during the regular season
and playoffs last year. You could just tell the way
he was moving and throwing. You just didn't look on
dred percent. Yeah. So uh, to me, you took something
you could have just said as a declarative statement, and
you made it more than it should. See. That's why

(58:32):
I kind of that's as we we said earlier the
last hour with this astro stuff, that's just the I
just don't get it. Hey, what Aaron Wilson reported, Why
couldn't Demiico Ryans or somebody say, yeah, he's got some
muscle soreness, should be fine. We're not concerned. Bing bang boom,
we're done, we're out of here. We can all move
on with their lives. Because a problem with that would
have been they would have been twenty follow up questions.

(58:54):
There would have been Okay, that's fine. That comes to
Terry quarterback. Yeah, you make it a story for you
make a one day story a five day story because
you don't say anything. And this Jordon thing, oh well,
we're gonna evaluate him in two weeks, not this every
day he's on a tee, he's on a cage, he's
doing coaches pitch like what okay, he's at the Pony

(59:15):
League in al deed, Like what just tell us or
give us a little bit of something. And then what
you're doing is you're making it less of a story.
It goes away, especially in twenty twenty five. We'll move
on to the next thing in thirty minutes. When you
don't tell us anything and it leaves us to worry,
we keep bringing it up. I'm trying to think of

(59:37):
an analogy. Oh oh, It's like if you were caught
as a kid doing something, Yes, if you tell mom
you did it, yes, take you mad at you for
thirty minutes. But if you don't tell her for weeks
that you did something, then she gets more mad because
you're trying to hide it. That's not the worst one.

(59:58):
It's like when I stole her quarters to go play
video games, I should have told her immediately. I did it.
I used to fish out every quarter I could find
in the house as compared to she caught me a
red handed play on the video game to go get
double cheeseburgers from Burger Ring. By the way, I guess
what I did yesterday? You went to burger Ring. No,
I went to Rick Ronalds. Okay, Rick Ronalds. I have
a change dish. Yes, So I went to the Oh no,

(01:00:24):
the coin thing, Oh, coinstar. Yeah, okay, you know what
they're charging you now? Oh, they take a chunk you
know you better? You better pull up about one hundred bucks.
Do you know what it is? I don't know what
it is. Four point nine cents per dollar. Ooh, thirteen percent.
It's pretty pricey. No, you just roll that up and
take it to the bank. Maddy, put one of your
kids on it. Not on Sundays. Oh, that's true. So

(01:00:46):
I could wait till Monday. So I did that. Broke,
So I did the So I took the coin dish
to the coin drop. Oh okay, and I had almost
twenty dollars in change. Just came back at seventeen dollars.
Oh my god. Took that seventeen dollars in cash Ronald's
got the two devil cheeseburger in the basket of all
it was nice. Nine dollars huh to Te's fourteen dollars

(01:01:07):
total cash meal. That's kind of proud of myself. I'm
proud of you, Matt. But I was like, man, I
gotta buy me one of them. Coinstar drifted thirteen cents
on the dollar. I used to have a little when
I was like a kid. You coin bank and you
put the coin in there and it sorts it for
you and you can roll it up. That's actually not bad.
I bring one of those you get fair market. Yeah, bank,
they'll do it for you. But yeah, but I was

(01:01:28):
no banks warping on Sunday, So no, that's all I got.
He couldn't use a card, so point bing is I
could have used the card, but I want to be
a chief skip, so I was a cheap skin on Sunday.
Point being, is that CJ shooting? I mean, if there
was something really really wrong, he wouldn't be shooting baskets. Okay,
that's my philosophy. I like it, So I am. I'm concerned.
I'm frankly calmer today than I was when he didn't

(01:01:50):
practice on Friday, I got Astro's medical team PTSD because
they tell me he's finey always, he's shooting baskets. Oh,
he's hitting in the cage. He's cool. Okay, ex So
you know your six months trainers are doing this. Why
do these trainers have these mystical power over the Houston
sports landscape? I wish it didn't. I wish it weren't
like this, all right, to tell the truth is up next.

(01:02:12):
There are three things I believe. There is one thing
I do not believe. For you to figure it out
next here on Sports Talk seven ninety. By the way,

(01:02:40):
some of you are very funny. You are saving me
gifts of looking for change. I mean, it's true. Shout
out at this guy six nine three one. Shout out
to stros relegation else is in there? Something to him? Here?
Rass You've won me in there too. It's got the

(01:03:04):
big one. Why why did the water jug become the
receptacle for coins like universally? I don't know, but mine
was I just have. I just have. I just had
a dish like any like relative, grandma whoever's house. I
would walk into it exactly like the big sparklets. Yeah, markets,

(01:03:24):
the big markelets thing full of coins. Can I tell
you that become the industry standard. So Kim wanted to
cook a bunch of food that I don't like. They
want to have salmon last have for dinner and I
don't like salmon. I don't like salmon at all. What
if you make it on a cedar plank with some
rosemary and time? No, So I was like, why don't
we just go to use my change because we're trying

(01:03:46):
to I'm not trying to. We try to eat it
home on the weekend. So you convinced them to pivot
from salmon to McDonald with loose change. Correct, and it worked.
Matt one, Matt one, Kim zero, Let's go open up
the coin purse. Let's go on in adventure and get
you a double cheeseburger. Double cheeseburgers, got rid of the catchment.

(01:04:07):
Muster added Max sauce delicious, and the basket of fries
more fries you could possibly stand best nine dollars, it's
pretty close. It's immense. Those By the way, those uh
make Crispy chips trip strips and I never had one yet.
They're all right. I was expecting that with me right
I was expecting better, right, I thought so too, and

(01:04:28):
I was like, after the third one, I was yeah,
so's mid. Huh, Okay, here we go. Flour sports takes.
I only believed show you know three of these four,
I believe boys. Are you ready? Number one? Yes, if
Yannis does not come to Houston, not saying it's safe.
High percentage of low percentage, there's just no percentage at all.

(01:04:51):
He's going on an Eastern Conference team, okay, for the
simple reason he thinks it's gonna be easier to win
the East than anywhere else. Okay, but it might not
be a better Eastern team, be like a mid team
that he wants to make great. Okay, it's number one.
Number two. The only team the Astros will have to
worry about this year in the American League West will
be the Seattle Mariners. It is. I'm declaring it right now,

(01:05:13):
June two, twenty twenty five, I am declaring the American
League West a two team race. Okay. Number three. The
NBA Finals start on Thursday, which is, by the way,
my birthday, Happy birthday, thank you. The thunder are winning
in five games. That's it. Five games, okay, I mean, okay,

(01:05:35):
and number four. I have figured out a way to
entice college football players who are draft eligible to stick
around and play in the college football Playoff. You ready
for this great idea of mine. Don't They already? Mostly,
but some do. I'm just saying you want, you want

(01:05:57):
full participation? Okay? Create a winner's pool for each playoff
victory they split among the teams. A private case is
sanctioning this pool. The na I don't know. They're not
touching that. When when did we let then stop? Yeah?
Get a corporate sponsor to do it. So if you

(01:06:18):
win the first round game n I L D Corporate,
you win two million dollars to go to n L
brought to you by Rate Arm, and the team that
wins gets to do commercials for money or I think
I think you'll have to. I think you'll have one
hundred percent participation. It sounds like a lot of red tape.
Oh please, this college. It's not red tape at this
point exactly. So here are my four takes again. If

(01:06:40):
Giannis doesn't come to Houston, he's headed east. The only
team of the Astros well to compete with this year
in the West will be the M's. I'm saying that
on June second, the Thunder winning over Indiana in five
games and create a winner's pool for each playoff victory
to keep players in the college football playoff three to four,
I believe one. I don't which one? Am I not
telling you folks the truth? All right, Jonathan, you want

(01:07:04):
to talk through this. I think I think he believes one. Yeah,
because I don't see he said that before, at least
when I was half paying attention.

Speaker 3 (01:07:14):
And after all that Twitter stuff he was demanded, didn't
seem like it was any Yeah, two and three to.

Speaker 1 (01:07:19):
Me, I could take it, relieve Matt. Matt might believe it,
Matt might not. They seem both reasonable. And I don't
want to say ice cold vanilla takes because that would
be rude. But ice cold vanette. What are we talking about?
A frappaccino here or what? Yeah, that's your take, that's
what cappuccino or tasty people love frappuccinos. That's what I
would compare your takes to an oat milk shaken frappuccino.

(01:07:44):
And you know what you get that for eight dollars
at raw Rocks. Yeah, heavy profit. It's a very or
a frat pacino, a raw rocks heavy profit. Yeah, a
black coffee minimal, and then you could fund your son's
crappy careers and NFL insider. But anyways, winners pull for
college football. I mean that seems ridiculous and a lot

(01:08:06):
of red tape. I'm just gonna go with that.

Speaker 3 (01:08:11):
Yeah, I'm gonna go for four as well. I don't
think he believes the college pool.

Speaker 1 (01:08:17):
How work? Okay, how's the game work? You picking? Then
he tells him for right, No, he's saying, how's it work?
You win the game, you get that, you get the money,
and you split up among the active players. Oh okay,
So think about this. If it's you're making you're making
two million dollars of the first game, Let's say you
make three and a half for the semi finals and
you make five million, you win that wind Or pool,
you're talking about splitting eleven million dollars over sixty players.

(01:08:38):
I'm confused. I don't think I'm confused. I think it's
pretty damn simple. That's why we picking this one, because
it is what does it? I mean, I guess you
can believe it, but I don't think it's ever gonna
have I mean, it's just not price its member. Yeah right,
I know. See that's true, Jonathan. You got to get
in the mind of a madman. He definitely believes that
Houston's gonna.

Speaker 11 (01:08:59):
Well.

Speaker 1 (01:09:00):
Like I said, the other ones are like vanilla frappuccinos.
This one's sizzling. It's got hob narrow teacher in it.
Your decision, now, I'll stick with four. Whatever. What do
you say, Jonathan, I'm sticking with four, all right. If
Giannis doesn't come to Houston, he's going east. I think
he thinks the quickest path to getting to it. I
think he's he's living for a championship. And I think
if you go to a West team, not name Houston,

(01:09:21):
then you're gonna be thinking about Golden State. Maybe too
old Denver. You know, are you gonna be there him
and Jokic on the same floor together, san Antonio, You're
still worried about whether or not Wemby can be a
guy that can play sixty games a year. I think
he's going east. I think he wants to go to
You know, look, there's a lot of names of Toronto
being mixed in the mix there. So I get him

(01:09:42):
out of here. Yep, the West is too tough. As
it is number two. I do believe it is the
Astros and M's for the American League West. I don't
think the Rangers will provide a threat, or the Angels
or the A's. And lastly, I do believe the thunder
are gonna win five. Yeah. I had a real hard
time coming up with so this was not my best

(01:10:04):
in the case when you go with three out of four, Yeah,
it's a difficult segment, man. You know, I like to
make fun of you, but I want to keep doing it.
But whatever, you're out of town, which is you know,
half the year on Mondays, I, yeah, it's difficult when
I have to do the second yeah. So yeah, you know.
The reason why I thought about this is because you
know Doug Gottlie because right, yes, I know, he's the

(01:10:26):
loser Fox broadcaster we we employ on this network. Sadly,
he's also the coach at Wisconsin Green Bay. They win
a conference game like one, No, okay, they didn't win.
He's trying to take his team to play in this
TBT winner take All, a million dollar tournament. Okay. I
don't know if he's successful in doing it, but he
wants to take his team, the Amateurs the amateurs go

(01:10:47):
in that tournament for a winner, take on off second.
Maybe you could do that for college football to entice
players to stick around. Though, yeah, I thought they couldn't
be active college players. He's trying to skirt those rules,
trying to force his way in there. Usually those are
it's like former players of a scott squad, like you know,
it's the former Villanova wildcat guys who were uh, you know,

(01:11:08):
taking a break from playing in Greece and heading over
what I thought. I thought, you know what, maybe we'll
figure out a way to to entice him. I mean,
it could happen, but it's just now everything's complicated question
and amateurism. The better answer would have been do you
do this for bowl games? Problem is bowl games are
financially in the hole. They're not going to add another
half million dollars, And why are you gonna Why are
you gonna split half million dollars among sixty players when

(01:11:31):
you're gonna be a pro player two six months later
making one hundred times at the mouth. Still that's in
another I just don't get it how they these all
these bowl games still making money? They don't they known
of them? It's crazy. Yeah, I think they just make
rights fees. Yeah, all right, so that was tell the truth.
Nice job by both of you. I didn't mincessarily give
you a big challenge to congratulations Jonathan, Jonathan are very good.

(01:11:54):
Oh wow, he got one. He said, layup, drill. It
feels rude. Oh maybe maybe I'll put words that's an understatement. Understatement?
Whoa just terrible on your part? All right? Eleven forty
four on Sports Talk Seveney the news that noon is
coming up at twelve noon today? Ross what is today's edition?
To believe it or not, I don't. All right, that's

(01:12:18):
what we can look forward to, look forward to talking
with you. It's seven one three two one two five
seven ninety.

Speaker 3 (01:12:27):
So.

Speaker 1 (01:12:28):
Betting in sports is becoming more and more prevalent. In fact,
it probably takes over for more of the analysis of
an event than the actual talking about the players, the strategy,
the coaches, the types of plays will be drawn. It's
just about what Vegas thinks, and you go off of
what Vegas thinks. And I don't know how Vegas does
their thing. I'm always curious about it whenever I get it.

(01:12:49):
We've had handicappers on before, and I always like to
just get pick their brain about a variety of things.
This is one that it's hard for me to fathom.
You're trying to and I know that you know do this,
but don't you want to always try to find money
on both sides and get people of the bet on
both sides of something in theory in theory, yes, okay,
So let me give you why you wouldn't do this.

(01:13:10):
The thunder Pacer series is coming up and it starts
on Thursday. The series price, meaning you have to just
predict the winner of the series Oklahoma City is a
minus seven fifty. Yes. Again, to show you what you'd
have to do, you'd have to bet seven hundred and
fifty dollars to win one hundred dollars. Okay, if you

(01:13:33):
think the Pacers are going to win, that's where you
get the tremendous value. At plus five thirty, you bet
one hundred dollars, you'll get five thirty back. So, obviously,
doing a little bit of logical thinking, the thunder are heavy, heavy,
heavy favorites. Yes, So ross you knowing this a little
bit more than I do about Okay, if I'm rich

(01:13:59):
and I want to put some on an Oklahoma City
founder because I really believe they're going to win. Am
I even wasting my time with minus seven fifty? Or
do I want to go try to at least predict
how many games it would take an order for them
to win to get some kind of value back. I mean,
it just comes down to seven to one means they

(01:14:21):
need to win it seven times out of eight? Is
that right? One on one side, seven on the other
added if that's eight right, so they play there? So
seven to one is saying and they play the NBA
Finals eight times in theory thunder or winning seven of them.
If you think that value of what is that? That
is eighty seven and a half percent. If you think

(01:14:43):
they win ninety percent of the time, there's value for you.
If you think they win ninety five percent of the time,
if you think they win one hundred percent of the time,
there's value for you. So that's that's where you find
the value. So if I went and put ten thousand
dollars yes on Unclehomas to win, I'm only getting back

(01:15:03):
what seven hundred and fifty dollars or seven five hundred?
No about ten seven one seven fifty. I don't think
that math works out. What's uh minus. Oh gosh, now
you're if you put seventy five hundred dollars, how about this,
we'll do you get a thousand dollars? Yes, I could

(01:15:26):
probably put that in the stock and earn a little
bit faster. When you think I am well, people think
that some people do this basically money laundering, Like oh
I won this gambling, now go over the cart, tail
head over the windows and the Pacers won it. Can
they pay? Of course they can. I mean the injuries
can shake Gilless. Alexander turns his ankle in game one,
it's all over right, right, right right? And Indianapolis, I mean, look,

(01:15:49):
the Celtics were heavy favorites to win the East, Cleveland
was a heavy favorite to win the East, and neither
one of those teams even made of what the conference final. Yeah,
so they're paying out seven to Basically you have to
lay seven to one. They're paying out under five to one.
So they are getting money on both sides. That makes sense.

(01:16:10):
They're not getting giving they're not paying out true value
and they're making you pay a premium. They are, So
that's telling how they make money. I really really, as
you heard what to tell the truth of minute ago
I really believe Oklahoma City is gonna win this thing.
But everybody says healthy I while I respect the hell
in Indiana, I they're just Oklahoma City is too deep,

(01:16:30):
too talented, shake gildess. Alexander is going to go off
and it's gonna be like I said, five games. I agree.
So to me, there'd be absolutely no value in me
putting any money down, even if I'm very very The
delight of winning pennies on the dollar is compared to
the harsh loss that I would be taking wouldn't be

(01:16:51):
worth the bet itself. It's just do you think, actually,
it looks like the odds have come back for the
Pacers a little bit what I'm seeing, So do you
think they have more than an eighty seven and a
half percent chance to win the series? If you think,
the answer is yes, you bet. That's basically how I'd say,
how you do futures? Well, in my mind right now,

(01:17:12):
I would say closer than ninety nine percent, Yeah, run
your algorithms, but I mean, yeah, if it's ninety nine percent,
then yeah, lay seven hundred bucks, you one hundred. The
value is there. It just doesn't feel like there's value.
That's only thing I'm saying it's a three hundred dollars
if it's if they're going to win. Yeah, it's true.
And by the way, the referee center bit is very funny.

(01:17:33):
Every time I see somebody say, oh, the referee centers
are out, I said, then bet your whole life savings
on the other team. Yeah, it's very simple. Now, I'm well,
I didn't do that last time because Scott Foster did
do it and then New York won the game. So
but it was I wasn't it was a comfortable win, right, Well, yeah,
I think it was last that. It wasn't like Scott
Foster's taking this game over correct correct correctly. So I

(01:17:53):
don't know. I just I just find little things in
sports going, Hey, that feels like something I wouldn't Now,
if I believe the Ne're going to win, then I
want to put I'm gonna I'm gonna spend my money
like that. I'm gonna spend seven und fifty hours. I
want to try to predict how many games are gonna
do it in That's where I could see you getting
a little bit of money. Correct. Yeah, that's true, but

(01:18:13):
it can be difficult, I guess. I mean they're gonna
take your money no matter what. So you on the
flip side, let's say, would you say the paces were
five to one basically? Yeah? So that that means if
you think they can win one out of six, no,
no watches both be wrong. Could That's why you know
I'm wrong all the time. That's why sports spending just

(01:18:35):
that's my jam. We were wrong at the old RAF
Rings sports book a couple of weeks ago. You're definitely wrong,
thanks very much. Hunter Brown. Not blaming you at all?
Or am I a band box field? Humidity, warm, wint
right left to right, Canni Corn, home runs, brutal, all right,

(01:18:57):
the Astros get a gem speaking a Hunter Brown? Nice
bounce back? Cy Brown? How about that seven and three? Nay?
I had to remember I had a gut feeling in
the middle of last year that he was gonna throw
a no hitter by the end of this year. You're
still hold on to that, aren't you. I don't think.
I mean, it's very difficult. It was very bold by me,
but he was what was it through five? How many?

(01:19:19):
How many? Yeah, were getting there, But the problem was
his pitch count was elevated. That's okay, Yeah, he's struggling
with command, and he was still throwing five no hit innings.
He's gonna put it together, man, He's gonna get close.
Let's go all right. Maybe I'll re up on that
gut feeling tomorrow. The News at Noon is up next.
You are welcome to join us throughout the course of
the next couple of hours at seven one three two
one two five seven ninety seven one three two, one

(01:19:41):
two five seven ninety We have the News at noon,
believe it or not, today and again all things about
the astros To get to the agenda. C J. Stroud
shooting baskets over the weekend. Uh, it was undiagnosed that
Aaron Wilson said there was a little bit of a
shoulder muscle that was sore. You know what, tell us
we won't bite hens fractured, We won't bite. We're very friendly,

(01:20:03):
aren't we? I think so, very friendlier than New York.
You're a vicious media member, but very nice. Who says
that I want names? Seven one three two one two
five seven ninety seven one three two one two five
seven ninety twelve oh two and eight town. What's happened
to lunch timers? This is our number three of four
of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross with Rossville Real.

(01:20:26):
I'm Matt Thomas. Our producer is Jonathan Allen, and we
thank you for spending some time with us today. We're
not going anywhere until at least two o'clock. We'll be
with you to talk all things about the Local nine
as they split the series of the Rains, which all
things considered is a win because they got beaten badly twice.
We had the NBA Finals are set for Thursday. We've
got college baseball u SEC fans. Are you disappointed Saturday?

(01:20:49):
Did you even realize your team was in the SEC
and the baseball tournament? And we had C. J. Stroud
did not throw on Friday, but was busy shooting baskets
over the weekend. Aaron Wilson of a kPr C said, Yeah,
it's a little bit of a oh, excuse me, time out. No,
it's the News of dude with Matt. No, Well, what's
going on here now? I'm walking out time down for

(01:21:11):
the news dude, And here's the Barbara Walters of Sports
news in Houston. Rossfield are ash a bitstealer as like
as a oh, you're the opening act for a comedy
show stole on my jokes. I'm gonna watch Lauren for
a minute. You just do what you need to do. Lauren,
who shaty? What do you feel about these college baseball

(01:21:31):
players with like four buttons undone that has a chess bras?
That's disgusting? You think that guy shaves his chest? Absolutely,
that's unless he's just a he, unless he's got alopecia.
If y'all shave your chest, let us know seven ninety Actually,
if you shave your chest, please do not call the show.
We don't. I mean, we appreciate you listening, but I
don't want to hear Matt talking about men's hair. All right, anyways,

(01:21:56):
let who's at noon here on Sports Talk seven ninety
as you basically can we just replay everything Matt laid
out for the last minute and a half. That's pretty
much where we are. Well, we will start with the
Astros a wild four games set over the weekend against
the Rays. They lose thirteen to three in the opener,
win on a walk off two to one, lose sixteen

(01:22:19):
to three, and then yesterday this happened.

Speaker 10 (01:22:23):
Bradley delivers and Walker doesn't take any bloops. This one
in a shallow left field. It down for a base
hit around third Paynia coming home. The photo played by
Manga offline and Paydia score standing up Christian Walker a
blue BARBIEI single and the Astros have a one nothing lead.

Speaker 6 (01:22:38):
Way you could go on contact Jeremy Payne from second base,
so anticipation was key, but the way he cuts third
base is textbook one run.

Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
A score, But that was enough for the Astros hun around.
Imagine if you got to the game in the second
inning you saw a pictures duel Matt. Yeah, in an
offense you can. Yeah. It's like one nothing soccer game.
It's about the tensionugh, but boredom. It's about the threat
of scoring Matt. That's what gets the people going. So yes,

(01:23:09):
one nothing game for the Astros. Some people call that
a bore. I say it's good razor on the edge
of your seat baseball for the Astros out Matt outscored
thirty to nine in the series thirty two nine. Last
time I checked the scoreboard said two wins apiece. Well

(01:23:30):
we don't have to check out the old run differential
for the Astros. They are plus fifteen, which is leading
the American League. West Yikes Rangers at a plus three,
Mariners at a plus eight, but more importantly, the Astros
a half game behind the Mariners, both teams out of action.
Astros start a three game set. I wonder if there's
a lot of people in Houston heading over to Pittsburgh.

(01:23:51):
That's supposed to be one of the most beautiful parks
in the on the planet. And Robert Ford right now
is at the Roberto Clemente Museum in Pittsburgh. I saw that.
I saw his post on Instagram where he doesn't follow
me back, but that's okay, you can follow me on Instagram.
At Sports Harvy they had a piece of the Roberto
Clemente airplane, like the fuselage. I was afraid you were

(01:24:12):
gonna say that, and then you said it isn't that
a little dark macabre? However you want to say it?
Like ghost, Oh, macab and ghost. Nobody had the sports
radio show is bringing that up? Those names? I got
one for you. I know somebody that owns part of
the plane, h the the what do you call when

(01:24:34):
you open the door the cockpit or the door of
Jim Crouchy's plane that crashed and uh and Nakadash Louisiana. Really, Yeah,
isn't that creepy? I know, somebody's got a part of
the the Otis Redding plane crash. I just made that up,
but he did that play crash? May he rest? All right?
So you can see the fuselage to the plane. Yeah,

(01:24:55):
there is weird. It looks like I don't know if
it's a propeller or what. That is a little dark,
a little bit and a little odd. Yes, Astros in
action against the Pittsburgh Pirates. We'll talk more about this
on Gut Feelings tomorrow, Matt. But Lance mccullor's junior on
the hill tomorrow. How about a quality start for him
the last time out? We talked about it last week. Well,
actually I didn't talk about it, but was it full

(01:25:17):
blown coverage on the show on Thursday with Lance mccullors.
Junior's quality start with twelve strikeouts. Uh, you know his quality.
But he still got hit pretty hard, you know what
I mean? No, I do only five hits? You mean,
like I think they were slugging pretty well. There's some
rockets out there, that's for sure. Well, another thing that
we've been talking about, Matt, with the Astros, we mentioned

(01:25:38):
it earlier on the show. What are we calling this now?
Do we have to put gate on the end of everything?
By the way, fracture gate. Can we go back to
Pittsburgh for a second. Yes, So, the most famous place
to eat in terms of a sandwich's Promonerancy Brothers. That's
where they stuffed French fries into the sandwiches. You can
get a let's see, a cheese steak which would be
topped with French fry, coslaw, tomatoes, and onions. Okay, yes, yes, yes, yes,

(01:26:05):
I believe jamming French fries into a sandwich is spectacul
right here. Yes, jam is as much cholesterol into a
HOGI role as we can possibly get. Yes, I'm sorry
to die, I'm.

Speaker 7 (01:26:14):
There to do it.

Speaker 1 (01:26:14):
But I was just like, man, every time I think
of Pittsburgh, I've only been to Pittsburgh me he three
or four times. I've never had promonest. Oh really, I'm
kind of sad you've been, but haven't been. I know,
I've never been to Pittsburgh. No, not necessarily in the
bucket list. The only reason I would go in stays
right right, Yeah, that'd be the reason. All right, all right,
moving along, Jays, we mentioned yes, handgate, fracture gate, fracture
gate two point zero. After last year's saga with Kyle

(01:26:37):
Tucker and his fracture, now you're on. Alvarez has a
fractured hand despite taking VP on Friday. Everyone talking about
how close he is, Joe Espada and Dana Brown saying, oh,
you know, it's up to him whatever he wants to
be it. No, it's not up to him. He's got
a fracture in his hand. Although Dana Brown said he
is sixty percent healed. Man, all right, so again, I

(01:26:59):
will want you to use your fractional equivalence here. Okay,
If he's sixty percent and he's probably been hurt since
late April, when does he hit one hundred percent? I
don't that's algebra for you, don't doubting hold on April thirtieth, Yes,
zero percent? Uh huh. June one sixty percent. So that's

(01:27:24):
a month. So that's six weeks. So we're talking about
six weeks. So he was one hundred percent healed and
then he's got to go on a rehab assignment for
probably a week, so we're looking at seven weeks. You
want to play guess when you are on his back? Yeah,
But isn't it like one of those things where the
last ten percent is the hardest to get, Like you're
ninety percent heeled, but it's the last percent. Can't that happen?

Speaker 2 (01:27:47):
Though?

Speaker 1 (01:27:47):
All right, I got one for you. Then, real quick?
Is he backed by September? First? September? First? Yes, it
is zoom met Then answer my quest, I'll say, yes,
he better be back. And by the way, is he
I p R I H I a hand fracture? He
hasn't had a bunch of hand issues. He had had

(01:28:08):
a bunch of knat and juice. I mean, look, he's
he's a He's a violent swinger, one of the highest
average exit villas in baseball, a big, bulking guy. Has
had a variety of alments. Yes, he does the body
frame do it? Does the sport do it to him?
I don't know. I'm not an orthopedist anymore. I would
say he's more eye license because there are plenty of

(01:28:28):
outfielders that don't have hand and knees and legs. All right, well,
Dana Brown, do you wish you handled anything differently with
jord On?

Speaker 12 (01:28:36):
I think the big point here is, you know when
he had the first entry in terms of the muscle
strain and the hand. Uh, you know, maybe we we
we shouldn't have let him fight through that because he
said it wasn't the normal pain that he usually gets
in his hands, so he thought maybe he could grind
through it and it was just just soreness. And maybe

(01:28:59):
at that point point we probably should have shut him down,
maybe for a week, giving it a chance to heal
and and not let him, you know, try to fight
through it and potentially cause more damage.

Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
So I like this admission from Dana Brown. Hey, maybe
we rushed him back. We should have done it, admitting
a mistake. Hey, it's okay for the organization to do that.
When's less time he had a sore hand now because
general handsore us me too. Okay, can you grip a baseball?
I can grip it, and Ridge, I've been gripping and

(01:29:31):
ripping it, Spencer arrogating, can grip in baseball? Now? That's good?
Makes me happy. I'm him. When's here back, I don't know,
don't care. I told you my philosophy, and when you
come back, they come back. I like that. When he's
out there, he's out there all right, man. The athletic
took time because well, it is a slow time for
college football. To rank the top college football recruits of
the twenty first century. Now, unfortunately, I do not see

(01:29:56):
any University of Houston Cougar recruits on this list. Maybe
Ed Oliver could be in there somewhere. I guess. Do
you know who is number one on the list of
top recruits of the twenty first century? Well, knowing how
you like to think, I'm gonna go Vince y'all, Vincent
Paul Young Junior, You're the first prospect to receive a

(01:30:21):
perfect one point zero zero rating. Number two, Travis Hunter,
number three, Trevor Lawrence, number four, Adrian Peterson rounding out
the top five LSU class of twenty fourteen running back
Leonard Fournette. Hmm, again I'm scanning. There is uh yeah,

(01:30:41):
no Houston Cougar's recruits on this list. Are you done? Unfortunately?
And thank you for that update. Quinn yours, by the way,
number nine, he is not arch manning number twenty three.
Quinn rs was a big record. Now we went to
a house first, got his MILLI from there. Correct, he
was a huge recruit. Yeah, didn't live a to the
hype for sure. And now I forget about this when

(01:31:03):
Doyel Green Beckham the Missouri White the way, let me
ask you this on yours real fast. So he was
a seventh round picker of sixth seventh. So remember when
I gave you that take that maybe he should be
better served by staying in college. Go get the nil
money and then try this again. I was actually right
about that. No, I told you you're not wrong. I
told you Quinn wants to Quinn feels like he has

(01:31:25):
enough money and he wants to start his NFL career
because for him, another year in college isn't gonna do
anything for him. Well, that's no, I see, I disagree
with that. Obviously, another year in college could have helped
his draft status. Well, another you would have given him
more guaranteed money. Nobody, even you didn't think he was
gonna slip to the seventh Yeah, so we thought it
was going to be around there for a couple million dollars.

(01:31:46):
I'm gonna imagine the Quinn you were thought he was
going to be there as well. So did he take
an ellen? Did he bet on himself? Yes, we've seen
players bet on themselves and lose, so right now he's losing.
If he can turn into some semblance of an NFL career,
which he unlikely for a seventh round pick those according
to the numbers, then yeah, he bet on himself and
he lost. We also don't know what kind of big

(01:32:07):
offers he had if it was true the rumors of
four million dollars, because there was uh, there was the
rumor that who is the Carson Beck, the Georgia quarterback,
This is supposed to be getting four million dollars. Apparently
that was a lie, and then Nico yamialiava goodness or
something like that. So it was a whole big mess
with the nil. You don't even know what was out there,

(01:32:27):
what turn pro nil money is being largely I think overstated.
Don't you think overinflated? It seems like it. Yeah, all right,
that's the news at Nude twelve fifteen Sports Talk seven Hony,
we are with you today until two o'clock. If you
want to get into your beloved Astros only a half
game out of first place, we'll do that fair game.
If you would like to give us a prediction of
the NBA playoffs, if you are no longer worried about

(01:32:48):
c J. Straw, that's me. If you are slightly worried.
That's ross seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
today's to day. I should have believed in that be
all things about the NBA on T and t ending
a thirty six year run of calling NBA games and
that work. By the way, Charles Barkley says, the NB

(01:33:11):
inside the NBA group taped a pilot for what the
show will be like on tn T without any NBA rights,
quoting Charles Barkley, we won't have basketball highlights. We taped
a pilot about a month ago. It was the stupidest
blank I've ever seen in my life. They can't get
any rights to highlights. No, they just did it without.
Oh they did it without. Like, hey, let's try something.

(01:33:33):
Let's try to expand horizons. You don't honestly and give
credit where credits due. I mean, Charles has become one
of the most sought after television media personalities in the
history of television sports. Kenny has carved out a niche
I mean not going to necessarily rock the boat. He's
the level He's the level headed guy. Ernie is the

(01:33:55):
is the guy that you know kind of is the
traffic cop. Shock doesn't much for me on the television side.
But Shaq is one of the most successful business people
in the country today. Yes, and he's America's pitch man. Yes,
he's doing insurance, foot powder. He owns, owns all sorts
of restaurants and different kind of full on mobile. It's

(01:34:18):
funny because Magic did that for a long period of
time and now he stepped away from that. Now I
think he's just in team ownerships. Yeah, I know he
has got a piece of the Dodgers, which I'm sure
is very doesn't even on an NFL team too. I
want to think. So was it the Commanders. I think
it was the Commanders. Yeah, so these guys, I mean,

(01:34:38):
say what you all about Shaq? And I if Shaq
was to walk in here right now, we'd find him engaging. Yes,
he'd probably buy us a meal. He comes to restaurants
all the time and buy his meals. And he goes
to breakfast club all the time. The restaurant he'll buy
the restaurant out. He's a very good tipper. He's very generous.
I saw like some uh he had given like somebody
his uncle or somebody in his family, like a range drover.

(01:34:59):
He he to be very very generous, very very profitable, smart,
sharp business guy and makes a lot of money and
is very good pitchman, anthropic with it. Yeah good, I
mean all positive things. Analysis. Does he know the Detroit
Pistons roster? No? No, you know that John Moran is
in active? He's like, ma key for the game? Is
John Moran? He's not playing Shack. That was a Rockets game, right,

(01:35:23):
did that? Uh? That's crazy. My favorite segment they do
this last couple of years is can that Can they
name the team which this player is who he played for? Yeah? Yeah,
they call it who he played for, but they go
like way deep on the roster like Garrett Garrett Temple,
Yeah exactly. I have no idea. I don't remember it
was Toronto Raptors. Oh sure, why not? Yeah? They do
guys like on the end of the bench and who

(01:35:43):
he played for. So it's I don't get mad at
them because I can't get those either. Do you think
that Shaq knows that Aaron Holliday is a Houston Rocket? No, Jay,
Shawn Tate, No, who else? Jack Landell would be kind
of a curious one. But would you see Jack got
a little bit of shall we say, spicy commentary on

(01:36:07):
a podcast last week or two. What did he say?
He said it was part of politics, of the reason
why Steven Adams played over him during the part of
the part of the season, like Kiwi versus Aussie politics.
I don't know what it was, and I don't know
what politics means. But then he said, well, on second thought,
now that I think about it, he played really well
in the playoffs, and I get it. I'm sorry, Jock,
I'm an I like politics. You mean basketball playing acumen

(01:36:31):
or like what would you call skill. Jock's a good guy,
by the way, like him a lot. Calls me mate, Yes,
I know, hey, okay, oh yeah, we're real tight. He
calls me chief. Yeah okay, well, uh boss, boss. That's
that's what Jabari Smith calls me. Again. There is zero
chance not a single player on the team knows my name.

(01:36:52):
That's just fine. I mean, it's fine. I get over it.
That's fine. The best thing all last year when it
came to Steven Adams is we were in Miami and
I think we spent the night. If I'm not whatever
it was. He is known for his proteins. Yes, like
big Tomahack's when you crush a whole Tomahawks steak. So

(01:37:12):
this is the day of the game, this is before
the game against the Heat. And he and I get
in the elevator and he's carrying a plate with him.
Uh huh. How often you carry plates in an elevator
like an act, not like a noun to go play
to an actual like a real plate. I said, where
did you get that? And I said, I said, I
had him cook it up for me. It was this.

(01:37:34):
He walked down in his flip flops of the grill
and then they grill it up and he walks back
up there. Ridiculously thick steak. I mean it had to
have been a pound with a big heaping of mashed potatoes.
M not every day you see a seven foot player
with a thick steak and amount of mashed potatoes on
a real plate in an elevator. He's got a fuel up.

(01:37:54):
Whatever he's doing is working. I like Steve Adams. Meanwhile,
I'm still in the morning muffin some downstairs next to
the free coffee. Terrible. You're drinking creamer and you say,
I have ten creamers for breakfast. Got to say this
for the gambling money. That's what it is. Let's talk
to my kids. San Antonio, twelve, twenty six, Mikey, thank
you for waiting in. Good afternoon, Good afternoon, guys.

Speaker 11 (01:38:18):
I'm actually driving back from Houston. Went to the game
on yesterday. Nice after the game, yeah, and I was
curious to know your opinion and if you know details
of what happened that guy getting tossed. But first of all, Matt,
you'll be glad to know that there was no way
they tried to get it started. I think it may
was like the fifth inning.

Speaker 1 (01:38:38):
And do you know something, Mike. Mike, first of all,
thank you for bringing that up. Second, anything you did
to make sure it didn't happen. I have seen less
waves into twenty twenty five that I have seen in
Houston years. I don't know what I know. If it's
because a wave buster is h O U thanks, or
we're just becoming smarter fans. But I want to applaud
all of you that have gone to games. Now again
we're hearing the kids just got out so things could

(01:39:01):
turn quick. Crowds have been light, so maybe it started.

Speaker 11 (01:39:04):
It started on the third base side, on the lower level.
And but it just it never got far. And you
know anyway, what I what I wanted to know your
opinion on. So the guy getting tossed and I saw
it after it looked at it was definitely a ball.
But my painting was IP should have just let it go.
I don't know what he said to it. The only

(01:39:25):
thing I don't know, but I just don't know what
calls all that and why the guy got tossed at it.

Speaker 1 (01:39:30):
If you guys, I do, it's very easy, Mike, and
thank you for the phone call. Please drive safety back
to San Antonio. So they used during spring training this
year and it's used in the minor leagues this year.
An appeals process on the ball strikes. If you believe
that a call was erroneous, you tap your helmet. Yes,

(01:39:53):
all right, So that's nice and simple.

Speaker 2 (01:39:55):
Right.

Speaker 1 (01:39:56):
There's only one problem. You can't tap your helmet and
to make big leagues because it does no good. So
what that guy did, what's his name, Taylor? What Wells? Balls? Wells,
doesn't really matter. He'll be a Durham before you know it.
What Taylor did is he tapped it because he wanted
to show the umpire up right. He was being snarky
or sarcastic. So I put it as a cova on

(01:40:18):
Twitter of handing a guy handing an umpire pair of glasses. Right,
that's what he did. He did like the glasses symbol
with his hands or you know, or John Cena, you
can't see me exactly he did that. Yeah, he lied
at he knew exactly what he was doing. He was
trying to show the umpire up, and the Empire is like,
anybody got time for that? And he throw him his

(01:40:38):
ass out of the game. Yeah, essentially you can't argue
balls and strikes, and essentially that is number one, it's
mocking and number two it's arguing balls and strikes. He
was saying something to the umpire. Yes, he stepped out
of the box, called for his time out. There was
Taylor even said there was chirping from the raised dugout. Yes,
that would have been all allowed for a certain length
of time. But when you go to the tapping your

(01:41:00):
helmet and he said he was adjusting his helmet bs
B S. He was trying to show him up. If
I was the umpire, I would have done the exact same.
It was a very justified ejection, extremely earned you're well earned.
And then then he lost his mind and tried to
charge the umpire went nuts. He as the kids would say,

(01:41:23):
he crashed out. Oh way, is Taylor and boy's name
are a girl's name primary both. It's a last name
that got turned into both. To me, how do you
feel about it? There's any anybody in eighteen sixty seven
named Taylor? I just feel like Taylor's a super preppy name,
and that dude just does not match a Taylor Taylor.
It looks like more like an Enis e n Os Enis.

(01:41:45):
Don't care do you think I said? I thought you
said Enis, but I mean Enis cabell Is the only
one I know. Enis from the from the Dukes in
the Bandit? Yes, wasn't that a smoky in the banded Enis?
Or was it Duke Duke Hazard? That was? That was
the deput You got his own TV show and I
can't your track. That's fine, I have to watch us
smoking the bandit again, all right, So there you have it.

(01:42:08):
So yeah, Enis decided he didn't want to stick around,
or the umpire made sure he didn't stick around. Then
he really lost his mind. And then Kevin Cash came
out there. It was moot. It was big Enis and
Smoking in the Bandit. Oh that's the cow McNair character. Yeah,
I did not know that guy's name was Enis. What'd
you think it was? By the way, I recently saw

(01:42:31):
Smoking in the Bandit for the first time. Go ahead
say it. It sucked, now, are you generationally? Yeah, I'm
not a shaming I'm just saying it was. There was
just very little to no plot and the dude just
drives around for two hours, right real fat? Oh, come
come on, And it wasn't that fun. I didn't don't.
I don't think I laughed one. I want you to

(01:42:52):
name two movies, okay, that are at least thirty years
old that I like that you still laugh at this
day because I don't you do it right now? No,
if we come back, okay, because I watch one of
them this weekend, now, thirty years old is just a
ninety five minute. Can you go forty? I can go forty. Okay,
you go thirty. I'll go forty. I can name you

(01:43:14):
two movies that are forty years old and I still
barely laugh after all these. You had to be there,
I think correct because in his Southern Friday.

Speaker 8 (01:43:24):
Sure why not?

Speaker 1 (01:43:26):
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seveninty twelve thirty two
on Sports Talk seven Hunty all right, real fit, quick
to finish off. We were just talking about there are
two movies. You guys know that Airplane is my favorite
movie of all time. I we had Caddy Shack was
on this weekend on some one of the movie channels. Ross.

(01:43:47):
I still ridiculously laugh at everything about Caddy Shack two,
not Candy Shack two, Caddy Shock to Caddy Shack one.
You gonna say you're the one that enjoy it. No, no, no, no,
no two T two. Caddyshack ted night and Chevy Chase's

(01:44:08):
character didn't do much for him. It was forty five years. Yeah,
I thought Caddyshack was okay. And then again, this is
all me recently, while I don't know the last five
to ten years watching them. Airplane is Airplane is great.
I'm with you on that Blazing Saddles I found hilarious.
I haven't seen Blazing Saddles start to finish in a lot.

(01:44:28):
I'm trying to think of the Yeah, so I like
it's hidden miss but I'm smoking the band and I'm
just sitting there saying, I just don't get it. You
don't get Caddyshack. No, no smoking in the band, oh
smoking abandon. Yeah, I don't remember them being overly. I
just remember that Sally Field and Burt Reynolds were together

(01:44:49):
and that was kind of weird. Yeah, there was a
lot of sexual tension, a lot of and Jackie Gleeson
was in it. Two. Yes, I didn't care for it.
I love that transam though it's an old timer. It's
one of my all time favorite cars. Okay, So the
two movies for me that still hold belly laugh funny
forty years later would be Caddyshack for me, an Airplane
you're going with?

Speaker 9 (01:45:08):
What?

Speaker 8 (01:45:09):
Oh?

Speaker 1 (01:45:09):
I was gonna say Airplane and Blazing Okay, very good? Sure,
One up Money Python, Holy Grail. That was good. Never
saw it. What that's your era? Never saw any of
the Money Python, not a single one of the case. Yeah,
you're more of a slapstick guy. Let me ask you this,
thats a pretty slapstick Let me give you five movies

(01:45:31):
of the last twenty years. Okay, do they hold up? Okay?
Does the Hangover hold up? Yes? Does wedding crashers. Yes,
step brothers, Yes and yes and yes all three Yes,
Ricky Bobby, forty year old Virgin love. I saw that

(01:45:53):
like a couple of years. Yeah, maybe last year. Still hilarious.
Bride's Maids. It's dated though, It's it makes it because,
I mean, it shouldn't feel as old as it does.
Talking about forty year old Virgin. Like they have flip
phones and stuff, and they're working at the electronics store
and they're like, we got this new DVD player. Nobody's
using d I loved I loved it when it was
James Ingram, Mom will be there and and what's his

(01:46:15):
face is? I'm gonna mam will kick your ass if
I hear the song. Oh yeah, I shock. Yeah. Uh. Bridesmaids, Yeah,
I think I haven't seen it recently, but I don't know,
I haven't watched it. Let me give you a couple more. Okay,
I know this is We're in a huge sports June,
and its June. It's about that time of year. Vacation
holds up. I have never seen vacation all the way through,

(01:46:39):
unbelievably funny now Vegas vacation. I loved when I was
a kid. Vegas is the worst of the is the
best of the rest. It goes vacation one, Christmas vacation two.
Oh yeah, yeah, Vegas vacation three, and then European vacation
is a distant fourth. The European vacation absolutely sucked. I
didn't catch that one. But Vegas vacation somewhat holds. Christmas

(01:47:04):
vacation definitely holds. Oh yeah, in vacation are Christmas vacation is?
How old? It's almost eighty years? Yeah, it's gonna be
close to forty eighty nine. It's thirty six years ago.
Back in Beverly, Dangelo was hot. What is she now?
Matt old can be old and hot. That wouldn't fit
her though. Okay, you know she's married to don't No,

(01:47:27):
I don't know she's married too, don helly. No, not
a horrible al Pacino. No, she's not. Al Pacino's married
to like some twenty year old. She maybe was married Alpacina. Okay,
wasn't It wasn't al Pacino recently impregnating some twenty year old?
Yeah that Robert de Niro did that? Was it Robert

(01:47:47):
de Niro? I'm getting mixed up? No, I thought it
was al Pacino and the woman also had a she
had another baby with some old billionaire. I'm looking up here,
uh spouses here now we're now, I'm I'm wigged out
about Beverly D'Angelo. Wah, I can't believe you did that

(01:48:09):
from al Pacino from ninety seven to two thousand. She
hadn't been married in since two thousand and three. Now, oh,
I'm sorry you had to update your rolodex on that.
The IMDb they're only married for six years. Yeah. Hey,
in Hollywood, that's like twenty. That is true. That is true. Okay, well,
the show's gone to a grinding halt. Uh more, Beverly

(01:48:31):
d Angelo talk coming? No, no, no, no, we'll break down.
You want to discuss in Texas off season? O Tas
will do that now. I don't know what to tell
you about that. Yeah, uh yeah, I want to look
up this al Pacino. Does he have a Does he
have a lineup card? Like uh Derek Jeter does. It's

(01:48:51):
probably pretty good. It's a little bit older obviously, yeah,
nor I'll follow, And how old is she's eighty three?
And they conceived child? How I mean? Yes, I mean
I free what I take yeah, and she was thirty
at the time. What do you have to use a crane?

(01:49:16):
There are phrases popping in my head that I'm not
going to say. So I'm gonna, you know what, maybe
uses rise health dot com. I'm going to show some
restraints and we're walking out of here. Maybe he uses
rise health. I'm all for that. All right, we have
to get back onto sports because this is what has
made this show the show, that it is a sports commentary.
Well so he said spaceballs, that's a good one. Never
saw it, and I expect you not to have seen

(01:49:41):
violent movies. All right, quickly baseball, but Spaceball's bullderm stands time? Yes, yes,
major league absolutely, of course, uh standlat Yes, thirty years old.
That's got to be what you were saying. Yes, I
never saw it. Uh maybe three was saying, oh my god,
I'm feeling old. Let's get out. You should fill you
look all right now, thank you? Growing up. It's dealing

(01:50:04):
with you major league. Yes, we talked about that, leaving
their own, leaving their own. Yeah, this is historical movies.
It's good. There no crying in baseball. It's funny. Do
you ever think Madonna's hot do you ever think she
wasn't well. I mean now she's not well. Now she
looks like a gargoyle. But it just had her day.

(01:50:26):
She yeah. I mean, you don't blame Sean Penn, Dennis Rodman.
I don't don't laugh at me like that, Jonathan. Look
her up. She's got a lot of surgery. She got
some bad motok go look up Madonna nineteen ninety one
and she got triple botox or something. Yeah, it didn't
go well, something right? All right? Back to sports, sports
and more sports. I demand we talk sports. The city

(01:50:47):
of Houston. Demand is to talk sports seven one three,
two one two five, seven ninety with a couple of things.
I did not tell Jonathan what song to play for Madonna.
I just find a Madonna song, Jonathan, this is my
favorite Madonna song. It is absolutely like a prayer. A
video on YouTube. So she was the hottest she's ever been.

(01:51:11):
Is in that movie and in that's in that video
is brunetto Yet well she's changed her hair color multiple times.
Now some could say, what's the song was she? What
was the name of the song that she was walking
on the street completely naked, not vogue? Oh god, thinking
about what you know I saw him thinking about it. Yeah,

(01:51:33):
I think so. Uh, but that just love just found
my love. Good call, Yeah, like a prayer. She's a
smoke showing that now she's a skeleton. She looks like
she's participating on the mask singer and she hadn't taken

(01:51:54):
her mask off yet. She looks like she's inheriting a
meth lab and working in the laboratory right now, y'all
older the have y'all seen that we're older than you?

Speaker 3 (01:52:03):
Like that weird horror film where they go to that
abandoned town and it's like Philip Kendall like wax figures. Oh,
then you know they find out and then like he's putty,
like dipping live people in wax and like trying to.

Speaker 1 (01:52:16):
Like, Yeah, she looks like that. I don't know what
you're talking about. I can't remember what it's called though,
House House of Wax, House of I think, yeah, I
think it's called Hasse Wax. I just googled it. That
was the scariest movie I've watched in college. Guess what
I'm not watching? Yeah, she looks also, she looks like
that guy from a saw Ooh, what's his name? Dick Saw? Saw. Yeah,
she looks like Jigsaw. By the way, I got some

(01:52:39):
bad news. Tennessee is losing one nothing to Texas in
the bottom of the six. And that bad news because
the Tennessee picture is cute. Tell me I'm wrong. Number
two twenty three, I don't know what she looks like.
Number two doesn't see number two. Number two is all right.
I'm talking about twenty three wind up and the first

(01:53:01):
pitch ooh, it hits. She hit her pissed off. Let's
go Horns. This is the semi final. That's what I'm
talking about. Nothing but excellence at the at the University
of Texas. I'm a big softball fan. Beach volleyball is
my personal favorite. Buttall is not far behind. You know
what she is. She's a pretty lady, Yeah, young lady,

(01:53:23):
A pretty young lady. Yeah. I wish to her and
her nineteen year old boyfriend Matt No the best. She's
of age. Back to sports, Back to sports, looking like Jigsaw.
Let's uh get my phone's my phone system's not working.

(01:53:43):
Let's got to Nancy and Tom Ball. Nancy's going to
save us. Hello, Nancy, how are you hi?

Speaker 2 (01:53:48):
Thank you for taking my call. Sure I have a
question that my grandson, eighteen year old grandson and I
are debating. We disagree on the is.

Speaker 1 (01:53:56):
It an opinion or is it a true question?

Speaker 2 (01:53:59):
It's true question, I think.

Speaker 1 (01:54:01):
Is all right?

Speaker 2 (01:54:02):
Okay, they just brought up Jacob Melton from the minor leaguess.

Speaker 1 (01:54:06):
Correct, that is correct. Yesterday got his first major league
head on a seeing I single.

Speaker 2 (01:54:09):
Yes, yes, okay, when he came up, he was making
a major league minor league salary. But when they brought
him up, he makes major league minimum.

Speaker 1 (01:54:17):
Correct, that is correct.

Speaker 2 (01:54:20):
Okay, he's only let's just say he's only there for
two days. They send him back down.

Speaker 1 (01:54:24):
What happens They called a two way contract. They called
a two way contract, can go back to minor league wages.

Speaker 2 (01:54:29):
Yes, oh that's what I told you.

Speaker 1 (01:54:32):
Now, don't get me win the argument. Yeah, so Nancy,
don't get into a deep dive on a two way contract.
But yes, there is numbers. Yeah, you're not. Once you
get there, you don't inherit the contract. Wrestler, You you're
you're up to a certain level. You have a two
way contract, meaning you make minor lage money as a
minor leaguer and major league as a major leaguer. So
let's say, for instance, like last year, Jose Bray, you

(01:54:53):
went down to the minor leagues to work on his game.
He was making major league money the entire time. It's
it's based off of service time and where you are
as a major league player. But yeah, not for Jack.

Speaker 2 (01:55:02):
I understand that he's be a major leaguer and that
I understood that. But this is what I told you
about the minor leaguers. When they come up, they make
major league and then they go back to minor league. Sorry,
and he didn't think that was true. He thought that
the one the light last what do they call those association.

Speaker 1 (01:55:18):
Bargains a players association?

Speaker 2 (01:55:21):
Yeah right, he thought that they.

Speaker 1 (01:55:22):
Unless there was something recently collectively bargained that I don't
know about. I believe. Yeah, you're a correct Nancy. Okay,
thank you for you, Nancy. Sorry, and tell you and
tell your grandson to respect his grandmother. Come on, now,
tell your grandson. We said, suck it. Yeah, tell your
scrandson and getting to get worry about college and not
we're about arguing with his grandmother about baseball because she
knows more than you he does. Thanks Nancy, We'll see
you later. Okay, all right, I think she said it.

(01:55:45):
I did, thank you, thank you. My phone screener system
still not working, which is fine. Oh no it is.
Let's go to uh Matt in Spring Branch at twelve
fifty five. Matt, what's going on? Hey man? Hey Ross?
How you doing it? By the way it says on
the screen here, you want to talk about U t
s a versus the Longhorns? I will pluckly step aside. No,
why no? You you listened to the game. I was busy.

(01:56:06):
I didn't catch it. Yeah, long horns sucked in disupport
in America? Right? How about that? Go aheare we.

Speaker 11 (01:56:11):
Go ra here?

Speaker 8 (01:56:12):
So a couple of weeks ago I called about my
experience up there in other oklaholm, I'm sorry Arlington at
the Rangers game, and uh, you know so apparently calling
on Monday with dumb baseball takes is just what I
do now.

Speaker 1 (01:56:23):
But at any rate, Ross, I don't remember.

Speaker 8 (01:56:26):
A couple of weeks ago you were doing the postgame
show at Carbak. My brother and I were tackling you
because you wouldn't say birds up as really.

Speaker 1 (01:56:33):
Oh that's right.

Speaker 8 (01:56:35):
I wonder if your team just something to.

Speaker 1 (01:56:38):
Throw out there and think about it. You know what,
maybe I did, Jixim, Yeah, I remember you, Matt, Yeah yeah, Okay,
what is it?

Speaker 5 (01:56:45):
What is it now?

Speaker 1 (01:56:46):
Runners up? What do you call it?

Speaker 2 (01:56:48):
Go?

Speaker 1 (01:56:48):
Birds?

Speaker 8 (01:56:49):
Birds up?

Speaker 1 (01:56:50):
Go birds up? Well, the birds.

Speaker 8 (01:56:53):
School of the backup school whatever you know?

Speaker 1 (01:56:55):
Yeah, I mean it's fine. It's what are you called
the funnel school? Or if your grades aren't good enough,
that's where you stay trap school.

Speaker 8 (01:57:03):
So that being said, you know, we're not gonna have
a lot of success, probably, but I just had to
blow our boasts a little bit rather about the little
bit we've had.

Speaker 1 (01:57:09):
So I had to go out there. I got you.
I'm wishing all the I'm rushing the roadrunners all the best.

Speaker 8 (01:57:14):
You're diplomatic.

Speaker 1 (01:57:15):
Enjoy the rest of the season. Yeah, well oh all right,
enjoy he just dropped and enjoy the rest of the season.
On College Baseball Talk, Bismack, Okay, I didn't watch the game.
I didn't have to. Normally around this time, Regionals is
when I get invested in starting learning who the players are.
I know they have the really good freshman closeder Dylan Valentis,
but other than that, I'm not a whole lot up

(01:57:37):
on Texas baseball. And by the way, speaking of that,
shout out to Kingwood softball team. They won the U
six A Division two championship over the weekend. Okay, and
congratulations to the baseball team at Kingwod High School. They're
paying for the state championship this weekend in Austin. Oh
really wow, that's great thrilling stuff there. Let me tell
you something. We are your official home of high school sports,

(01:58:01):
no or not, and when Kingwood volleyball goes to state championship,
will have live in depth team coverage State championship. It's
not how they do. Last year, we lost in the
first round of what the base playoff playoffs? Okay, how
what was the district finish?

Speaker 10 (01:58:16):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (01:58:16):
Third? They like three teams in the district in four
Oh wow, soft I didn't I didn't make up the rules.
You know they let the fifth wild card. Oh now
Texas leads to nothing. That's like leading and two nothing
in salt. My god, e five what are you doing
over the third base woman? I mean, my god? Yea

(01:58:38):
to nothing in softball is like a five nothing baseball. Yeah.
I thought it was great. I think I'm team Lady
Balls for a variety of reasons. One reason better ut
than your ut. No, it's a young ladies are gonna
be the future of the stars of our of our world.
There's accountants and dennis and teachers and doctors in that group,

(01:59:00):
and I'm rooting for them. Okay. Twelve fifty eight, It
is the Matt Thomas Show, with ross another hour left
to go. By the way, my friend Joseph, who runs
a variety of cinemas in the Houston area, says that
next Wednesday, I wonder if it's this Wednesday or the
following Wednesday at seven point thirty there he's gonna be
playing Blazing Saddles this movie theater and then the following

(01:59:23):
Saturday and Sunday too, So if you want to go
see Blazing Saddles, you can go see it. All right,
let's go. It must be what a sixty year anniversary
of it? Fifty years? Maybe? Was it seventy five ish? Yeah,
it's gonna be fifty years then seventy four. Wo My
birthday is Thursday, by the it's on the Roku channel,
by the way. Oh geez no, no, go to the

(01:59:44):
movie theater and see it. The popcorn coke Nicies twelve
fifty nine Final Hour Matt Thomas Show with Ross is next.
Now Ross argument members of our staff about the seventy
nine trans am. No, I'm not just talking about Smokey
and the bandit and the talented lady Longhorns leading Tennessee

(02:00:07):
two to nothing in the Women's College World Series SEMIS.
It was a screaming Mimi to the third basement. Nice dig, yeah,
very nice dig. Texas long Horns. You're all you're involved
in everything. What does that mean? College World Series, NCAA
tournament final four years in football final four, you're the

(02:00:32):
rowing championship. Your volleyball team is pretty good. That's right.
I forgot about that rowing chip, track and field. That
all decent in that. I think so I think they
want a championship year and yeah, I'm trying to get
this rowing. They still have shipped my rowing championship. John.
Then you were you were a track stir with the

(02:00:53):
Texas Runners. Nice people, were They kind of arrogant and
the stuffy That's what I thought. I'm sorry. I just
the rest of their clientele and there and they're not
true very humble. Please hold on, let me see this,
uh this rowing championship t shirts on sale that Uh,
it's gonna be next Wednesday, not this Wednesday. The Synopolis

(02:01:14):
and the Woodlands is gonna have blazing saddles five dollar tickets.
By the way, that's not bad for a movie and
make it. No, that's a great deal. He's gonna my
buddy's gonna try to get Caddyshack and airplane. If he
does an airplane night, we'll do an airplane night with
the audience and fight y'all up there is it outdoors? No,
it's a movie theater. I'm just asking, why don't we
get any good drive ins? Did they have some somewheres?

(02:01:37):
When you said the Woodlands out on the sticks out there,
they got some drive ins? They do?

Speaker 4 (02:01:40):
Really?

Speaker 1 (02:01:41):
Yeah, where's an airs driving to us? I had the
Magnolia Texas. You don't even know that. I mean, I
guess you're right. You could have said Montgomery had been
more believable. Uh huh, I'll look. I thought there was
one out there somewhere. Why did pep Why do we
get rid of drive ins? Because people were sneaking? People
in the cars are making less money. Remember there was
a reason. I don't know what it is. I don't

(02:02:02):
think it was because a crime probably that I mean,
and you just bring your radio and pick up the
They get a chair and sit in the outside.

Speaker 8 (02:02:11):
God.

Speaker 1 (02:02:12):
Ah, I used to love drivings when I was a kid.
This one says there's one off of navigation. Oh, I
wouldn't go there, new chance?

Speaker 7 (02:02:19):
Why not?

Speaker 1 (02:02:19):
Matt Well worried about getting No, No, what's the problem.
I believe it's a heavy crime area. There's a very
nice Big City Wings on Navigation there is, and it's
great to go to. So you know, we'll do Ross.
We'll go, we'll go to the driving, then we'll go
to Big City Wings. After that I'll go to one
of the Mexican joints on you can go there. I'm
gonna go to one of the Mexican one of the
thousand Mexican joints on navigation. All right, So the Astros

(02:02:44):
have an off day today. It's kind of nice. Remember
all the remember that run they were talking about was
seventeen consecutive games. They getting some Mondays off, the nights
are off the better schedule. Yeah, it was really weird
than being Memorial Day off last week was kind of
weird though. That's okay, Well, why can't they you get
a holiday. Why can't they, Matt can see their families
grill it up, because play with your children, because you
should play them a moral day in July fourth and

(02:03:06):
Labor Day every year. They're human beings who need those
days off with their families. Matt, I support the Astros
being off on Memorial Day. The Astros had nothing to
do with. You don't need to be well, you don't
need to be doing pre and post game anyways. You can
hang out with your family too. It's funny because I
would be I am the holiday worker. You are, like
I'm telling them Clanton, not so much, but you are man. No,
I mean no, you know what I think. I think

(02:03:28):
the rest of the year Adams should do every holiday.
So when they have a July fourth game, that will
be on the pre and post July fourth, Labor Day,
Labor Day, five Day, President's Day, Columbus Day, slash, what
do they call it else? What Indigenous People's Day? I
believe it is as well. Whatever is everybody's day any
if there's any day anybody's holiday, Adam Clam's doing the
Hispanic Heritage Day. We'll get them on that. We got
our schedules, we got our Junie schedules, and all I

(02:03:51):
kept saying was Adam and animal. They're working a bunch.
Oh it's in our time slot. That's fine, that's good.
Appreciate them. Great job. Two to six the A team
you're on sports Stock. Seven to ninety. Sadly, Tennessee lost
to Texas to nothing. Suck it, Tennessee. Is this an
elimination superball? I don't know. No, they played seven? That

(02:04:15):
they played? Yeah? Seven? Yeah, I want you cry, loser.
Those girls from Tennessee is crying and you're making fun
of it. I'm just kidding. So they're playing for the
World chap. They're playing the World Series Championship, their World
third championship. Guess what, They're gonna lose Oklahoma again because
everybody loses Oklahoma. Man, they're a dynasty. Man, What do
you mean to say? We also it doesn't it doesn't hurt.

(02:04:35):
They play their series every year in Oklahoma City. That's true.
They get a home field advantage. You know what, I'm
arning for Texas. You know who gets really mad about that?
Didn't didn't Gordy tweet about that?

Speaker 4 (02:04:47):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:04:47):
You got with people. Apparently there is a OU Softball
Twitter and they are a furious bunch. They hate Gordon,
they hate Chris Gordy, but his point is correct. They
they have a big softball culture, but they hold it
there every year because the taum's huge. Yeah, they're gonna
sell tickets and then the Sooners are likely going to

(02:05:08):
be in it every year and they're gonna make a
bunch of money. Look at how big I act like
it's not a home field advantage is ridiculous. It's like
how every year the the the Big Twelve Basketball Championships
is in Kansas City and it's ninety percent Kansas fans.
And guess what happened this year? University of Houston won't
have to stop that Kansas ass. Yeah, and then they
choked in the championship. But then it was a tough loss,

(02:05:30):
very questionable. Fishating down the stret turn the ball over,
he can get a shot off. But yeah, by the way,
he turn those girls off. They're crying. They're not so
upset a great season. B No, it's about a motion, Matt.
It's not the thrill of victory, the agony of defeat.
I've seen a lot of defeat in my life. I
don't want to say are L Thomas they don't call
me the L and your meant Matthew L. Thomas. That's true,

(02:05:52):
that's true, but not for that reason. Seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five sevenointy tight. Kyle's in Paarland at one
ten on seven high, Kyle Cale Cale You there, hey, Kyle?

Speaker 5 (02:06:07):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (02:06:09):
Yeah, yes, sir? Oh well you sharing me now? No,
maybe speak louder, go ahead, speak as loud as you can.
Are you calling from a submarine?

Speaker 8 (02:06:21):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:06:22):
Calling from the blimp? So somewhere? All right? What you got?
You hear me better than that? But go ahead, just
start say what you need to say.

Speaker 2 (02:06:35):
Anyway.

Speaker 1 (02:06:35):
Matt You know I've listened to you for years, and
I thank you and I are brothers from another mother.
That's disurving. Now I'm going to tell you why.

Speaker 11 (02:06:44):
We're both of course etched cougars, which is way better
in Texas.

Speaker 1 (02:06:48):
Uh. We both like the McRib yes, sir. Both love
to gamble, Yes, both love to gamble. Both love Barry
manlot yeah oh wow? And and uh I understand that
Playing is one of your favorite movies, and it's my
favorite comedic movie of all time. What's your favorite movie?
Of all time. It's probably my favorite movie of all
times because I leaned towards comedies more than I mean,

(02:07:10):
there's some dramas that I do enjoy, but I like
to look at funny movies much more. You know, man,
how many times did you have to watch it to
get every joke? You miss things? I've watched it probably
one hundred times, and I still catch things every time,
like I yeah, and thank you for the phone call, Kyle.
Things like the pamphlet for American Jewish Athletes the greatest

(02:07:36):
huge athletes. It was in a pamphlet on a plane.
That's stuff I didn't catch right away. Okay, I didn't
know what it was like for the girl to say
I and everyone with a man before until I was
older and figure that out. And you figure these jokes
out when you get older. Yeah, and the red zone
and the oh, it's just I don't want to talk
about it. This makes me laugh, Okay. Terrible acting by

(02:07:57):
Kareem Abdujabar. No, he's been dragging. He's been dragging bobble
on near up and down the court for ninety four feet.
Subpar acting performance, but great movie. I'm with you, one
of the great all Time comedies, Thank you very much.
One of the few things we agree with. Airplane two
probably a major disappointment compared to how great airplane was.
I never never didn't catch them. They were on a
space ship and Sonny Bono was trying to explode it

(02:08:19):
with a with a he brought a bomb on the
on the space and then he ran into a tree. No,
well I didn't really, No, that was not running in
a tree. Well, while he was skiing, he was running
into a tree. God, you are so insensitive. Just there's
evil in your heart. There really is. Uh, how are

(02:08:43):
we gonna make it this summer? We're gonna be great. Actually,
we're gonna be more entertaining than these other folks. I'm
telling you right now. Are you sure of this? Yes,
I've been entertained. Are you not entertained? We could do
a text and o TA review. No house CJ shrouds
with said the shoulder update, but them up in all Honestly,

(02:09:06):
they better not be a shoulder update, because if he
doesn't throw at any camp, then anybody with an alarm
should hit it. Whin CJ ready to throw? No, no, no,
we're not doing that yet, hopefully because because even Aaron
Wilson said that nothing. Don't worry about nothing. There's Nick
Cayley said, nothing to worry about. So Nick Hayley, Nick Kyley, Kaylee. Okay.

(02:09:31):
Now to be confused with drag Hayley in the comments,
I don't know who that is. One thirteen on Sports
Talk seven ninety seven one three, two, one two five,
seven ninety So I'm setting if you're on, Alvarez gets
back by September the first. I'll be pleased. That's a
month to get ready for the playoffs. Okay, because guess what, Ross,

(02:09:52):
I'm stealing a bit from Adam Waxer. The Astros are
making the playoffs this year, and I'll explain it next.
One thirteen on Sports Talk seven ninety back on The
Man Thomas Show with Ross here on way Haley in
the comments, not Jack Haley in the comments. I made
the mistake as soon as I said it was that
Back to the future. Where was that? No, it was

(02:10:13):
a movie, oh Bill Haley in the commets. Rock around
the Clock was the most famous song. Oh man, what
a great one. All right, back to sports because that's
what people know. By the way, if you want to
join us and not correct our stuff, which is the
I mean, I feel like the show should be fully correctable.
At any more moment. You're a mistake, call us on on it.
We're not perfect, certainly, not not even close, not close

(02:10:37):
to close seven one three, two, one two five seven.
So Adam Wexler brought up this bit on their show
Is it a Thursday or Friday? When I was listening, Okay,
and I think they're I think Wexer hit on the head.
They're only gonna be I mean, he's playoff spots of
there in Baseball six six plate. We don't care about

(02:10:58):
the National League. Okay, no, we don't. He came up
with seven teams playing for the division for playoff spots,
and six of the seven are gonna get him, obviously, right, Yes,
it's either going to be it's gonna be the Yankees
in the American League East mm hmm, because they're laid over
Toronto's five and a half games. But Toronto is not
a legitimate contender to fit to And I don't think

(02:11:19):
Boston's gonna come back their eight and a half out.
Bregmant's gone for another handful of weeks. I don't really
think Tampa Bay is a Thread. They're nice, but they
don't have enough pitching. I don't think, okay, and Baltimore's
already done for the season. So there's one playoff spot.
The Tryt's gonna have a playoff spot. That got the
best wreck in the American League and somebody has to
win that division. Then you have three teams fighting for

(02:11:40):
the wild card, Cleveland, Minnesota, and Kansas City. So that's
four teams, two divisions. Okay, okay, Yeah, and maybe you
could consider Toronto, because Toronto maybe a wild card. So
let's put two in the East, two in the East,
three in the Central. And as you heard me on
to tell the truth early today, I believe Wex when

(02:12:02):
he says there's only gonna be a two team race
between Seattle and Texas, between Seattle and Houston. So that
adds two more. That's soul of seven teams for six
playoff spots. Here we are June first, twenty twenty five.
There are seven teams ross in the American League fighting
for six playoff spots. I think the Rangers are going
to have a round five hundred this entire season, if

(02:12:23):
not further below. I don't count the Angels. I don't
count the A's. I don't count the White Sox we
are in. Maybe Kansas City could sneak in. I mean,
obviously they're close. Maybe you could. You could have stretch
it out to eight teams. But in theory you have
probably eight teams the very most, fighting for six playoff spots.

(02:12:45):
That's why as long as the Astros do something and
Jordan Alvarez comes back at some point, the playoff streak
for the Astros should continue. You're gonna find fault with something.
That's fine. I can live with that. You said Detroit,

(02:13:06):
New York, Seattle, or in Houston for divisions. Mm hmm.
Tampa Bay is only one and a half out. You
said you don't think they're gonna do it. I don't think. Basically,
only get you only gotta win. What did what did
the uh?

Speaker 8 (02:13:18):
Well?

Speaker 1 (02:13:19):
I mean eighty four win? Teams have gotten wildcards before
last year eight. I think the last year uh the
last wildcard was eighty six. I'm gonna disagree with you
and Wex. All right, so you're throwing Tampa Bay in
the mix. Tampa Well, they're in the mix right now.
I'm saying by the end of the season, they're not
gonna be in it. I'm gonna say they're gonna drop out.
They're gonna fall so far out of the race. I
think with the nature of the third wildcard, generally it

(02:13:41):
keeps a lot of teams in towards the end, right,
and the Astros are one of those teams. I'm just saying,
I am very, very bullish on the Astros returning to
a playoff spot. Now, am I saying they're gonna win
the America League West?

Speaker 2 (02:13:55):
No?

Speaker 1 (02:13:55):
Am I saying they're gonna have one of the best records. No,
but unless this team continues to suffer additional injuries which
could happen. Which could happen, And I do believe the
Astros will make some sort of move to get a
left handed bat and or a starting pitcher. They have
to make those moves. Yeah, this is a lot of contingencies. No,
I don't think it's guaranteed. The Ashers are in at all.

(02:14:17):
Your two games ahead of the Rays, who just outscored
you thirty to nine in a series, but the scoreboard
said two games apiece. Yeah, right, so then yeah, I
don't say I see how we can say, oh, well,
the Rays are going to be out of it. But
the Astros are going to be in. They just they
just tripled your score line. I'm going to go off
of the recent history of the race competitive for a
while and then bow out. Okay, well I'm gonna go
off of the I'm going very recent history of the Rays.

(02:14:39):
They they really pounded you over the weekend. You were
lucky to get displayed in that series. Talk about took pitching,
took a walk over. Well, there weren't much pitching in
two of those games. Hey, from Bervaldez from guess what
Fromer won in two hours and six minutes? Well, what
about the raise line up the other two games? So yeah,
Fromber and Hunter were great in those two games. That

(02:14:59):
you want on a walk off in a one to
zero game as well. But uh, I'm not just gonna
say the Astros are in the thick of all this
and the Rays are out. I'm gonna tell your right
now because mine glass is half full. Okay. Meanwhile, Battle
Redd is already thinking about Texans training camp. Yeah, how's
CJ shouldered update? You're gonna have at least a wild
card team in Houston, Texas. I agree with you. I

(02:15:22):
think they'll at least be a wild card, but also
be home either. Could they also could be on the
road too, more than likely on the road. You got
starting pitching issues right now. Lance Pillers Junior hopefully goes
out there and he's good again. Can give you another
quality start. Yep, they're going after a pitcher they need
top Nightingales even alluded to it with with what resources,
how quality of a pitcher you're looking for? Probably a

(02:15:46):
use taking Coochie type. Okay, well that worked out daytime.
Think about how that trade worked out. Now, would you
like to get somebody that's got years left in his contract?
I think probably that's going to cost you more. It is,
but it costs you at this point nothing. Wagner's done
nothing as a major leaguer. Jake bloss is hurt, and
uh is still hanging out in Buffalo wherever they play. Yeah,

(02:16:12):
he loves Buffalo. Actually I don't think he loves that.
I haven't checked his numbers. Uh, we can get a
low Perfrio. Don't we have a low Berfrito? Update sounder,
don't don't do the on live on the radio. Something
that means something's positive. Fifty four games, five home runs,
His numbers are getting better. It hitting said, ops of
seven eighty seven at Triple A. At Triple A, how's

(02:16:32):
Will Wagner doing it as a blue jake? Oh? Last
I saw he was hitting like one eighty nine, and
I think, do you get sent back down? I can't
recall worked with Jays this year. He's hitting six in
twenty games and has to check his game. You're make
me pull up Will Wagger game logs. I'm I'm mad

(02:16:53):
at you. Yeah, he must be down with it. He
must be done back down in Triple A or hurt
or something, because he hadn't hit with the big league
club since April twenty seven. Oh so he's been gone
for a while. Okay, so yeah, I would expect a
back end rotation guy, but probably a guy that's got
not necessarily mileage on.

Speaker 4 (02:17:11):
In the arm.

Speaker 1 (02:17:12):
But at least we have a track record ross of
him being a guy that can throw six innings making
the area of four ish somewhere in that range. You
have to get that pitcher and it has to work out.
Hunter Brown and Fromer have to keep doing their thing. Okay,
here's the thing, trying to hold the glue together with
Gusto and Gordon and well, the one thing about this
series that Diget exposed is that the Astros bullpen is good.

(02:17:34):
It's not immune from giving up a bunch of runs.
You can't. They've used them so much in the last
twenty five days that you'd had to have thought at
some point they're gonna be one or two games in
a stretch where they were gonna get beat up, and
they did. Yeah. By the way, Forrest Whitley, nice guy,
but it's not going to pan out for him. You

(02:17:55):
call him DFA DFA Whitley. If I was Brendan Rodger,
if I was Forrest Whitley, I wouldn't be thinking about
real estate, and if I were the Astros. Even though
Descendo just one of the injured list, and even in
Chas mccarmick is the injured list too, right, I think
they added both. Yes, yeah, yes, if Chas gets back,

(02:18:16):
I would try to showcase him. I think you could
get I'm not talking about a meaningful player, but something
to help you showcase and Chas McCormick going the same
sentence is a little tough. I don't. I don't think
you're literally going to give him away. It's one of
my point, is Astros bullpen or e RA, at least last
week was second in baseball. Now it's all it's back

(02:18:37):
to ninth. That's a that's a too terrible performance will
do to you. That's crazy. That's what ERA is the
greatest relievers, But to keep bringing it up, So that's
on me. What about expecting that you go with x FIP.
X FIP is their eighth so it's a little better.
Nobody cares field independent pitching. It's a good metric. That's fine.

(02:19:00):
It's more about heart hit contact, you know, because ERA
can be wonky.

Speaker 4 (02:19:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:19:06):
Yeah, going from second best ERA to ninth best r
bullpen in one weekend is gonna do that to you. Yeah,
you give up three singles and get out of the game,
and then a reliever covers your ass and your ERA
a zero. If he lets those guys score, then you
area blowns It's it's it's ERA sucks. Yeah, may most baseball.
Most baseball numbers just irritate you, right, you know, just

(02:19:27):
batting average in ERA? Yeah, all right, seven one three
two one two five seven ninety seven one three two
one two five seven nine zero. If you want to
follow us on Twitter at sports Empty and at sports RV,
believe it or not today coming up in uh twenty minutes,
what is the category NBA on the TNT thirty six years? Rip?

(02:19:50):
May they rest, But I mean it's still gonna be
the same guys. It's gonna be different guys calling games
on Yeah, Like Kevin Harlan's going to Amazon, Iron Eagles
going into Amazon. You know who Tarrico is. I mean great,
you're gonna have recognizable people calling games for sure, Believe
it or not. Coming up here in a moment, we'll

(02:20:11):
be on the NBA on tn T closing its doors
kind of as NBC and its properties. Of course, Peacock
and Amazon taking over some NBA stuff. NBA on NBC
also going to be on Sunday nights. That's pretty smart
by NBC trying to take over Sunday nights basically all

(02:20:33):
throughout the year what we always tune in for Sunday
night football and the big games. They're gonna try to
do the same thing with T and T. I think
it's a good idea. Just appointment set Sunday night. You're
a sports fan, just flip it onto NBC and you're
going to be good. Ross v Reale with you on
the Matt Thomas Show, sometimes with Matt, but mostly with Ross.
Our boss was talking about LSU baseball little rock today.

(02:20:55):
Oh that's big one huge. Oh you can't call them
markanso Al little rock. They're just little rock. Why, I
don't know. They're trying to get like uh the raging
Cajuns are trying to get rid of the I'm sorry
you're you are u A L. R. McNee states no
longer in the state. It's very confusing. It's going on
with this. It is odd. It is odd. All right, Well,
so there you go, wishing LSU baseball the best time.
I'm going let's go a little rock, all right, little

(02:21:17):
rock for life. You SEC people are so arrogant and
you think you should Texas, Oklahoma, Auburn, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Florida.
How about the Florida in Mississippi State is arrogant? How
about the Florida coach ripping the crap out of the
Coastal Carolina staff because they move their game back an hour?
Just torment new Age. I saw that I didn't know

(02:21:37):
what this. I saw the story. I didn't understand or
or read the details of the story. I guess I
just wish Yeah, you know what, SCC. Why don't tell us,
go away to your own deal. Okay, the biggest money makers.
You're just so entitled. Sorry, you're arrogant, you'rebnoxious, you're overrated,
says College. All right, LSU is still in there. Yeah,

(02:22:01):
God say tigers say good say. I don't care about
the Tigers, mister deep seated history of SEC with text
has been there one year. Let's go route route for them.

Speaker 9 (02:22:12):
Care.

Speaker 1 (02:22:12):
I mean, I wish them the best, but I'm not
going to take a rooting interest, not gonna be watching
the games. It's not like I'm locked on SEC. That's
other people on the station or that work for the station.
I haven't seen Guardian days. It was okay. I don't
think he's fine everything all right. I think he's working
from home. That's fine, That's okay. We're kind of used
that around here. It's far. Yeah, Parlyn's not that far,
by the way, we're close. Speaking of LSU, Angel Rees

(02:22:35):
former LSU Tiger. Yes, there is a viral video going
around of a bunch of dudes that are making bets
about Angel Reese missing her first shot per game. She
love so I watched the latest one and she made
her first shot and those guys lost their mind. By
the way, you cannot, I don't know. It's a it's

(02:22:55):
a it's a fake bit. You cannot bet on a
person to miss their first shot. Yes, you can where
on the sports books? No you, Yes, you can't. We're
not going. You cannot go to Lake Charles and bet that.
I'm sorry you. I bet you can. You go to
that kiosk. You know how many bets are on that key.
I will bet you a steak dinner on that. You
cannot bets the first shot? Yeah, mister, make first shot,

(02:23:17):
absolutely no change. You can bet on everything you and
I can make that side bet. I'd be all for that. No, yeah,
you can. These gambling sites have everything now, Matt, I'm
still I will bet you the stake. I want you
to go to to Uh, well, you can't. We don't
have a sponsor like Charles, So I'll just saying just
just pick a random casino. Can you bet it? And

(02:23:37):
you can bet it on those offshore bet you know
those betagg the line or whatever the goofy ass stuff is.
But you cannot. You cannot go to a casino. You
cannot go to Caesar's and bet you throw the regular window.
But these kiosks that have all the bets or the apps.
Absolutely is that what you're saying. I'm saying you cannot
walk to a teller. Maybe maybe the kiosk. All right,

(02:23:59):
you better that. The point being is that this has
become a viral thing, is that they're watching her miss
all these first shots and then the finally the one
I won made. She made one, so good for her.
That's fine, Eric and base Oh, Eric, it says Heckling
Ross about the long Horns. The floor is yours. Take

(02:24:20):
your time.

Speaker 4 (02:24:21):
Yeah, when when you announcement from now on, Matt, if
you would say, Eric from Bay City, a road runner
uts a graduate, all right, right, we put it to
Ross and old Schloss. That's right. We took the d
of the year and we gave it to him.

Speaker 1 (02:24:36):
All right, Enjoy your next loss. Enjoy the pinnacle of
the pinnacle of your athletic program is winning a regional
baseball game against the Texas longhornse That's how big the
long Horns are.

Speaker 4 (02:24:47):
What's the Longhorns? It feels so good to beat the
big SEC Longhorns that bum conference at one one playoff game.
In football, this past season, after all that talk and.

Speaker 1 (02:24:59):
After winning championship year after year, I'm not gonna stump
for the SEC. Don't even make me do this air. Yeah. Look,
I was there a lot. When you're a big heritage
athletic program, everybody's best day of their life is when
they beat you. I didn't realize there were such fans
as Roadrunner fans. I'm gonna tell my Grain children about

(02:25:21):
the day the UTSA rud Runners defeated their long ones
and then went on to lose. Anyways, by the way,
U T. S A guy, aren't you Isn't your campus
just full of office buildings? I've been every campus off
I'm driven by U T.

Speaker 4 (02:25:36):
S A.

Speaker 1 (02:25:36):
I'm driven by like if you drive to a University
of Texas, that's a college campus. You go by university,
so that's a college campus. You go by Texa A
and them it's a college campus. Okay, by UT s A.
It's like nine high rise buildings. That's it. There's no grassy.

Speaker 13 (02:25:50):
Knolls, No, there's no fraternity row, sorority section, no place,
no college union to hang out, no big state and
they they play their football games the Animal Dome, that
decrepit building.

Speaker 1 (02:26:06):
Okay, I'm just saying, so it's a commuter school. You
guys just got hot dog stands and government assisted apartments.
Who's us, guys? You of age, we're basically, I want
to say, like a vacation destination. Yes, I think it's

(02:26:28):
where the course. What are you talking about? They want
to think I'm talking about of course. Yeah, I think
they're building Guantanamo too. Over there, High Rhys is beautiful
places to rise, relax, I thing rising high up. There
is a gunfire in the air. You get an opportunity
to even smooth.

Speaker 3 (02:26:46):
They're all cracked up and theirs messed up.

Speaker 1 (02:26:51):
Yeah, they're called wait just a minute, nackadocious. They called
everybody said necos campus is pretty nacodociaus is pure hell
outside at the campus.

Speaker 2 (02:27:00):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:27:01):
Yeah, you have ases pothole city call it. They call
it pothole you. They call it God's gift of Southeast Texas,
the harbor to Southeast Texas. They call it. Bulletproof glass.
We've had our champ crime man, Like, who hasn't had
crime issues before? It happens some places worse than others. Yeah,
you're right, how's that Austin crime low m hmm. Yeah,

(02:27:26):
they're not arresting anybody. Let go check up and go checkup.
They don't arrest anybody. The crime rates alone, dupe. I
can get some CBD at Texas without any issues. Oh please,
nobody's getting high on the U of ahe campus, not
a person. We're on the library studying. Uh huh. I
got time to get got a bunch of Delta eight
majors over there.

Speaker 3 (02:27:45):
If I tell you, Matt, my my cousin's going to
your vase next year, so to do what she's want
to be an architect.

Speaker 1 (02:27:52):
Oh see, great architecture school. She's gonna be making high
six figures. She'd be giving you nice gifts, you and
your bride and your children that you're gonna eventually having. Yeah,
it'd be a good shape, all right, Uh believe it.
I got you got nothing, be nice. Yeah. I wish
to the best of you and your cousin. You know what,

(02:28:12):
she's going the best architecture school in the country. We
don't have anything that's not the best. What's the best
in the zip code? Probably your television Engineering U Medical School.
Now we have we're conquering America Medical School. Solven Diseases
law school's amazing leaving scissors in people's bodies. All right,

(02:28:34):
let's play. Believe it or not? It is all things
about the NBA on t ah Wow. Actually it's not
even the best in the zip code. I just looked
up best architecture school. Rice is one. I didn't know that.
That's crazy. Thanks for that. Good for them, all right,
go kooks, go cooks. May oh, but we're gonna be

(02:28:54):
preseason number one in basketball, so suck itde on Sports
Talk seven nine, are you much of an on paced guy?
Sports Rvy, Sure? Why not? Tigers are on pace to
win one hundred and five baseball games that according to
MLB Magic Numbers, the Rockies are on pace to win
twenty five games? Are the Rockies gonna go twenty five

(02:29:19):
and one thirty seven? I mean, if that is the case,
you know how you talk about relegation in soccer? Wouldn't
