Speaker 1 (00:03):
Ten oh one h town. Good morning, and welcome two
Way Tuesday. Edisue of the Matt Thomas Show with Ross
here on Sports Talk seven ninety alongside Ross Villaryal Jonathan Allen,
our producer. I'm Matt Thomas, and we thank you very
much for spending part of your day with us, and
hopefully he spending the next four hours with us as
we give you. I mean, nobody's talking Nick Chubb, We're
(00:27):
gonna do it. Nobody's talking about CJ. Stroud, We're gonna
do it. Nobody's talking about the Texans at the mini
camp today. We'll do it. Wonderful only station in the city,
only podcast only legitimate members of the media talking Texans
right here, Sports Talk seven ninety, your unofficial home for Texans.
(00:48):
We bring the people the hard hitting topics they need.
That's exactly right. Yeah, they are meeting right now as
we speak, on the field doing typicult June drills and stretching, wretching,
and he's working out and uh so, yeah, it's you know,
you're gonna get some legitimate media. They're there, they're covering
(01:08):
things and we'll give you real reports and you've got
a lot of fake media there they do not deserve credentials.
But it's a different issue for a different time. Ross,
how the hell are you this morning? I'm great, I'm
gonna I'm gonna like I'm gonna at one point we're
gonna have to put a muzzle on you. We have
to make a fake media moratorium now. I'm just I'm
disgusted by our market that that teams in this town
credential people that do not deserve to be credential. But
(01:29):
that's a different issue for a different time. On my podcast,
Play Goes and Power Bombs and a Holes, Episode two
coming soon. Oh, it's gonna be a while. It's gonna
be a while.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
The Astros are back at action today against the Chicago
White Sox. Look forward to that. At a minute, May
Park and I will be on the on Deck show
beginning at six o'clock tonight. Well yep, oh wow, and
a seven to ten first pitch. The Chicago White Sox
are in town for start a three game series, a
stretch of I think it's what thirteen consecutive games. What's
gonna happen with this rotation? Matt, Well, you're yeah, I'm
(02:00):
just right here. Oh, I'm just worried who's throwing today? Lance, mcolor,
how we feeling? He'll tell us at eleven o'clock. Oh,
that's right, eleven thirty got feelings, Oh yeah, eleven thirty eight.
I'm sure that to Joe's bottle, we bullish on it
because he when he joins us today at twelve thirty.
Hard to argue with back to back quality starts, extra
day off arrest, feeling good? Yeah, and again uh for me?
(02:23):
For for Lance, maybe every six day is about perfect.
Why get you know, just there's no I mean, you're work,
You're happy to have him here. And for that, Manue,
You're right. You get so many young pitchers that are
not accustomed to throwing any of the amount of innings
being on a regular basis. So you know what, if
(02:44):
an extra day can get them an extra inning, let's
go for it. I Mean, I don't know much about
Colton Gordon's career, but I'm gonna assume that he has
not been a part of an everyday rotation at the
big league level for much of his life. I don't
think he threw three hundred innings last year, no, So yeah,
I think it is the trend. Every sixth day I
think that's one of the reason why you will also
see probably never a three hundred game winner is that
(03:04):
you know, going back twenty five years ago, you you
had twenty six turns through the rotation of over one
hundred and sixty game schedule. As long as you were healthy,
you pitched every fifth day, and you probably pitch one
hundred and twenty five pitches. And then of course you are,
you shreded your arm and you got back out there
in regardless of whether we're shut it or not. Yeah,
nobody's getting a three hundred. I don't I actually don't
know if anybody's getting a two fifty. Nobody's getting the
(03:25):
two fifty. Ever, again, I think Noel Ryan strikeout record
is safe. I'm trying to think of a pitching superlatives
to me that are sacred that will no long no
hitters can be certainly matched. Here's your top active win leaders.
Verlander of course has two sixty two. He's forty two
years old. Ain't getting a three hundred. Nope. Max Scherzer
(03:47):
has two sixteen. He's forty, not getting that fifty fifty.
Kershaw's thirty seven, he's got two thirteen, not getting to
two to fifty, and then fourth is Garrett Cole. He's
thirty four. He's got one fifty three, not thirty four. Yeah,
you know he's coming off Tommy John not getting you
two hundred Chris sales, thirty six, he's got one forty two.
(04:09):
That's your top five. Ain't nobody even getting two fifty.
Nobody's getting close because you're, first of all, you're not
pitching as much. Secondly, you're also being pulled earlier, which
means a game that's you may leave in the sixth
ending up three to two, bullpen gives up a run.
You all of a sudden now have a no decision.
You know what? Uh?
Speaker 3 (04:30):
You know?
Speaker 1 (04:30):
Like the facts of life? You take the goal, where
you take the bag, you take them both in there
you have the facts of life. You're making more money.
So if I would, if I was to go to
Verlander and say, if if I would to take seventy
five million dollars of your earnings over your career and
take away from you, and I'm gonna give you the
three hundreds win, would you rather have? You say? You
take the money? He might give away the seventy five.
(04:51):
He's got that Kate up the money too. Everybody else
is gonna say, give me the cash, so let's Talkay,
maybe I should go to somebody that doesn't have a
wife that makes money. How much money do you think
she's made her life. I don't know. Million, we won't
even know. But I mean she's obviously she's one of
the most successful quote unquote supermodels, and she's got a
lot of deals going with I'm sure with cosmetics. This right,
(05:12):
Celebrity Networth says she's only made like twenty to thirty million.
That feels wrong, No, I would be. I think i'd
be closer to agreeing with twenty to thirty over one hundred, Okay.
I basically she didn't have any like makeup or anything. Yeah,
I'm not talking about just for modeling, like you think
you don't have any other business ventures. The all time
models that made the super cash Sidney Crawford, h Christie Brinkley. Yeah,
(05:34):
but a lot of them made like I don't know,
they made it like a line of whatever hair care
products and makeup, and you make a doesn't Kate have
purses or something like me? I don't know what moving on.
I don't think Kim Kardashian worth like a billion. What
does she do? No, she's not even the richest one.
It's Kylie that makes all the cash. Okay, what does
she do? She's got a line of makeup or something. Anyways,
(05:57):
let me take something. No six man rotation, not another rotator,
not on a radio show. The marketplace is going to
give you cosmetic and supermodel salaries with after I rotation.
Maybe I'm thinking of Gizell. Giselle makes all that money.
What's she doing?
Speaker 4 (06:10):
Well?
Speaker 1 (06:11):
She said, Giselle's worth four hundred million dollars. To answer
your questions, she's doing the jiu jitsu guy. He's not
paying her that much. That's true. All right, So the
Astros will be back on actually tonight, we'll have it
for you here on the on Deck Show at six,
first pitch, seven to ten, and all the action right
here on Sports Talk seven to eighty. No NBA tonight,
because I need an extra day off, so they will
be playing until tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (06:32):
Up.
Speaker 1 (06:33):
Eric Gordon says they need two days in between. Let's
give it to him. You know what, I have intentionally
not looked at the television ratings of the NBA Finals
for Game two. It probably wouldn't take you long to
figure it out. But you know, it's funny. I subscribe
to NBA Communications their Twitter account and they are telling
me about the number of page views and number of
social media clicks and and that's really cool. But I
(06:56):
don't know if that pays the bills. Now, you are
getting the rights fees from these networks, but these networks
are also getting getting advertising money to spend or to
get people to spend on their advertising based off of
the rating. So there's gonna be some blowback if the ABC, ESPN, Peacock,
NBC Prime folks do not get any numbers to match
(07:20):
the advertising dollars that they're charging to put these games on. Yes,
or at least, I don't know how long term these
deals are. That is a good question about that. You know,
do you sign up a beer for three years, do
you do an airline for two years or whatever the
case would be. But then, yeah, you you It would
be too simplistic to say the NBA doesn't care. They
do care. They want their they want their in television
ratings to be high because their television partners are gonna
(07:43):
be like, hey, we need some help here. And apparently
Game two is down from Game one, which is game
one was already historically low. All right, so we have
we mentioned at the very beginning Nick Chubb is in uniform,
and I'm looking at pictures on people that are legitimate media,
that are at textans practic. So we'll look forward to
getting a further update on that. Okay, what he's out there,
(08:07):
Let's go. That's fine. I said that's something. I mean,
he's not gonna provide anything. I don't think No CJ
is gonna speak today though. Is he gonna throw today?
Speaker 3 (08:16):
Though?
Speaker 1 (08:17):
How's these? Hell's the shoulder feeling? Okay, so let's let's
go through two parameters here, and we don't at this point,
we have not seen anything from Adam Wax or a
man on the streets is there? If he throws? Are
we or are we like? Okay, that's cool. We pulling
a yorton. We're just saying, who cares? Wake me up?
Week one? If these available week one, we're good. Otherwise
(08:39):
I don't care. But see, I don't think we I
don't think we're going on who cares on your on?
I think we are. We're worried about your not who cares?
But okay, we can be worried about it, but we
have no control over it. Yeah, but if he doesn't throw,
I think the easy answer is, Okay, these are two
more practice that court. I mean I keep saying practice.
These are rills essentially. Yes, nobody's hitting anybody in camp. Yeah,
(09:05):
laid up that word mini camp. I'm sure somebody over
a mini camp. Well. As I told you yesterday, it
used to be three days, and then they would always
just skip the third day. Now they just say it's
two days. You get in there and do it and
get out. There's no more surprise to it. So if
he doesn't throw, my simplistic answer is we can a
hit the panic button and create four hours of false narrative. Okay,
(09:29):
they'll be low hanging fruit for us. As sports radio host,
we can do it. We've bitten the low hanging fruit.
We may have to. It's summertime. Astros didn't play, they
have no finals last night. We may have We may
be low hanging fruit day in the old Matt Thomas
showed Ross Okay, or we can say, okay, this is
fine and you better have your shoulder and whatever general
soreness is gonzo. By the end of next month, when
(09:51):
training camp starts, Ben I would think you'd I think
it'd be perfectly okay to hit the panic button if
he's not thrown in late July. And we said that, really,
we really said that the first day. We're hitting the
concern button today. If he's not throwing, I would say, no, okay,
because this just was from last week. Was he supposed
(10:14):
to all all of a sudden miraculously feel better from
June fifth to June whatever? What is today the ninth tenth? Yeah?
Oh oh, I mean we have an answer when we
come back. Okay, sure? Why not? Gut feelings eleven thirty
Joe A spot at twelve thirty NFL rewind What's what
(10:36):
I'm putting around the NFL today? At twenty believe it
or not? Today sly Stone rip, May he rest, Jonathan.
We need some sly Stone bumpage today? My friend underrated.
I'll say it. I don't even know what that is.
We know that sign, the family stone. You'll recognize the songs. Yeah,
we know. When we throw something at you, your typical
answer is I don't knowing about that, or I don't
(10:56):
know who that is. Work. We aren't very used to
that saw him to put on it this you just
said a name. I was like, we will talk to
you during the break. We communicate. I already put one in.
How about that before the show even start about coming
up next break? So didn't you thank Ross for helping
you out doing your job? I mean you do it? No,
you know what you should say? Yeah, man, I looked
at the computer today. I saw I saw a sly family.
(11:19):
I saw a sly Stone die. I should probably ask
Matt Ross if it's a big deal. It is a
big slidestone die, sly Stone die. He said three times
fast seven one three two one two five Sevenati, oh,
this is so good. You heard this song, Jonathan, uh oh,
(11:42):
he's gonna go And now it's a long pause. I
was like a at a family reunion. Okay, so you
heard it. Dance They have danced to the music. Isn't
this dance to the Music's good? He's got some picks.
This is the older one. Yes, this has gotta be
a late sixties, a number one hit in nineteen sixty eight. Okay,
(12:05):
can I tell you about this song really quick before
we go to the c J Stroud.
Speaker 5 (12:09):
Yes.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
So in the nineties I bought CDs of the best
of the sixties off a Time life. It was one
of those three o'clock in the morning things, uh huh.
And then one of the songs on the one of
the multiple CDs I got was this song, and I
was like, this is unbelievably a jam. Yeah, gets the
people going. And I'm not a huge I mean, I
love the Beatles, but I'm not a generally big fan
(12:31):
of the sixties music in general. But that is just
wrong me.
Speaker 6 (12:35):
My professor at stephen Austin she left, she retired, and
she was like in the radios for like eighties and seventies,
and she left all her vinyl records and she didn't
keep them. So I stole like like three cards of
them and I don't even know these are Are they
like old sixty?
Speaker 1 (12:48):
Can I have some of those? I stole? You stole
them and she left them. And then it was so
basically it was literally, your words were stolen. We're putting
words into your mouth. Those were your words.
Speaker 6 (13:00):
No, no, no, no, you know, in between exams and stuff,
you would just go ransack.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
You know, you said stolen ransack in the same conversation.
We didn't pillage some of no pilfering, did you did?
You use a weapon to secure these things, hold people up,
grand larceny. What's going on with you?
Speaker 6 (13:20):
I don't have a vinyl Okay, can you bring them
up here? And I yeah, I have a bunch of them.
I have like, I know, one's Loving Spoonful. I know
that's just one of the Loving Spoonful, A couple of
rock ones. I have one of them, like Pink Floor
to something. I want some like jazz or blues or something.
Speaker 1 (13:33):
I have some jazz. I don't even know. I have
a lot. I have a bunch of them. I'll tell
you what's good and then I'll take the rest that's
really terrible and not good and not worth it. Yeah,
he'll steal them from you, honestly, honestly, you should look
some of those up. Some of those could be worth
the money. Yeah, I need to go so Yeah, looking
up you could find some hidden gems.
Speaker 3 (13:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
The problem was my uncle gave me a bunch of
Beatles records like forty years ago, and I used Crown
all over all. That's all drawings from Matt So congratulations,
Texans fans. Nothing to worry about. Zilch, zero nada ROSSI.
The videos are coming in from those legitimate members of
(14:13):
the media that are there that, yes, c J. Stroud
is throwing some football. He's dropping bombs. Okay, maybe he's
throwing checkdowns in short crossing routes, at least from the
video I'm seeing. But his arm is working. He's throwing
with his right arm, which is his throwing shoulder. That's
funny if you had set his left on that. Yes, look,
(14:35):
this looks like a fifteen yard pass. It's all good.
Nothing to worry about here, folks.
Speaker 7 (14:43):
C J.
Speaker 1 (14:44):
Stroud is ready to bounce back from the sophomore slump
and lead the Houston Texans back to the Divisional round
and goodbye general soreness. Yeah, he's over, by the way,
zero percent chance he throws tomorrow. This will Today was
I'm doing fine, leave me alone and leave my coach.
(15:04):
So yeah, because because Dimaico got tourists here today, he did.
He was like, that's enough, that's enough. CJ. Stroud questions, guys,
he's only he's only the most recognizable player in the
football team. He is your franchise player, and if he
has a good year this year, you'll be paying him
franchise that money. It is still whacked to me. ROSSI
that you pay one player now you can. This obviously
(15:28):
happens in all sports, but it feels like the discrepancy
between the quarterback and everybody else is so astonishing. Well,
he's the quarterback is the most important position in major
team sports, and it's not even close. But like, let
me ask you this, uh, the most important player for
I well, shake Gilles Alexander be a bad example Booklaomo
(15:49):
the city because he's gonting. He's getting ready to make senny
five million dollars a year. I'm just I'm what is
uh the difference between Jason Tatum and Jalen Brown's money
in Boston? Is it? Is it that big of a different?
I think they're both making close to whatever the maximum
they can. I don't know what the money is. Is
Lebron and Luca's money uncomparable? Probably they will be. Luca
can't do super max now because he was traded. But
(16:09):
you know what I'm saying. I mean it is you
basically pay your quarterback, your left tackle, and you're number
one wide receiver crazy money, and everybody else gets really
good money. I mean obviously very comfortable money, but I
mean if he even has just a decent season. For instance, Ross,
if CJ comes back and has the same exact numbers
that he had this year like you had last year,
(16:32):
he's still going to strike it unbelievably rich. I think
he's going to be even better. Okay. Yeah. Who's the
second most important Houston Texan? Nico Collins? Okay, he's got
what's he making like eighteen twenty whatever it is with
that deal where he's underpaid by the way, because the
(16:52):
Texans did a good, smart, smart, very smart move from
Nick Cassio betting on Nico Collins to break out, which
he did. Yeah. Yeah, so CJ. So next ye of
the game. So in two years, let's put this two
years ahead. Two years. In theory, CJ can be making
seventy million dollars a year. Sixty million dollars a year, yeah,
somewhere in that neighborhood depending. So let's go sixty. Okay.
(17:15):
Who's the highest pick is Dak Prescott I think has
the highest av It's like sixty. Okay, So let's go
to CJ. Macon sixty the second most important player in
your team, which in theory would be your left tackle,
but the Texans don't have that yet. Will Anderson. Could
you could make him your second most important player?
Speaker 8 (17:33):
M hmm?
Speaker 1 (17:35):
What is what is will Anderson sour going to be
in two years? What is Nico Collins Sowur're gonna be
in tw years? The discrepancy is huge, and it's in
an indictment against anything. It just shows you that again
the NFL has done something to say, you get a
good quarterback, you need to make it in You need
to figure out your budget and figure out your salar
(17:56):
cap to make sure that you completely ridiculously spend for
one player in your football team and everybody else has
to kind of you know, I mean think about you're
tying up basically twenty five percent of your salary cap
on one player. Yes, let's see Miles Garrett is the
highest paid edge rusher at forty million per year. Basically
(18:17):
Dak Prescott's making sixty. Yeah, so that's not the discrepancy's
not nearly as bad there, I mean, it's it's fifty.
That's pretty huge. Fifty from from the highest of the
second highest. Pretty crazy. Who's the host as well? Deserve
Miles Garrett who's so forty to sixty? Where's the Sewan Watson? Yeah,
(18:40):
I'll have to go back to quarterback. Well he he
restrictured his dealer as well. Yeah, all right, so that's
the most important thing is that CJ is throwing today.
He will say a few things. As soon as he
says something, we'll be happy to pass that along. And
then after that we will just make sure everybody stays healthy. Right,
you guys not showing up at practice today, it is mandatory.
(19:03):
So if he's not, if they're not there, it's because
of injuries. Compared to nobody holding out, Nobody disgruntled. M
H feels like it's hunky door over there in Texanville.
We'll have an update of holdouts across the league coming
up on the NFL reamwe and there's one player that
has spent the entire offseason and you'll have this in
the rewind completely disgruntled on how rady the Cincinni Bengals
(19:25):
are and how he wanted the new contract. And he's like,
I'm not showing up at many at mandatory mini camp
and I'm not going to be there. And he's not
there today. We will discuss and that's a team that
the Texans are will be competing for for one of
those operational on spots in the NFL. I believe that
the Bengals are you have everybody back. I mean, you
got your two receivers back, You got Joe Burrows healthy.
(19:45):
Trey Henderson is a very very good defensive player, but
he can't help you if he's not in uniform and playing.
Mm hmm. They're still trying to trade him, right. They
don't know what they're trying to do. All I know
is he's been pissed off since the day the season ended.
It's the beauty of the hard capped in FL. Yeah,
can't pay everyone, you cannot? All right? So are we excited?
Are we happy? Do we feel better that CJ is throwing? Yes? Yes,
(20:09):
and yes, no panic button necessary. Now, if he goes
gets a ten to ninety shot after practice today, we're
gonna be a little concerned about that. But I don't
think that's gonna be the case. CJ. Stroud go ball
to Jayden Higgins. Higgins hauled it in with one hand,
perfect pass. Sounds like he is he letting it loose.
We're all good. Who's ever from? That's from Jonathan Alexander Oh,
(20:30):
the beat runner for the Chronicle, does a nice job.
Seven one, three, two one two five seven ninety seven
to one three two one two five seven NINTI. This
is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross with the word
here for uptown appliance repair. Time is ten thirty two
Sports Talk seven ninety Astros will begin a three game
set with the Chicago White Sox. Man, we are in.
(20:54):
You know, I try to be honest as I can
with y'all, and I do lie on occasion, but I'll
be truthful here. Do you see how those two sentences conflict?
I No, no, I love the transparency, man, I love it,
thank you? No's he just I try to story, but
(21:16):
I wind up lying. Here comes go ahead, Here comes
a piece of truth. Okay, we don't we have You
can't build a four hour show around training camp of
ot of mini camp. Okay, but we can talk about
it a little bit. Yeah, we're gonna do a little
bit every single hour. Wonderful. So it's our job and
we have we spend time talking about this. What are
(21:36):
other things that would be an interesting to the audience. Unfortunately,
the NBA is not an interesting thing to our audience. Now,
if Kevin Durant gets traded here or Giannis or for
that matter. Either one of them get traded and it
doesn't involve the Rockets, then it could be of interest.
So if you feel like there's something that you would
like to get into, we are a fair game. Because again,
there was no playoff game last night. Hockey doesn't resonate
(21:57):
in our community. The Astros didn't play yesterday, and c
J Stroud's throwing and while the Playboy play tweets are cool,
they don't result in wins and losses. I am a
I am a believer of We need to discuss what
is important when the events take place, when games take place.
We're not a preview sports ratios on a preview world.
(22:19):
It's a review world. Wow. I mention puts that on
the T shirt, So I mean we can preview things
with Shane. Excuse me, with Shakespeare bald I thought he was.
Why are you asking that Jonathan just could be a
could be a trade. You know all people have very
(22:39):
poetic line, Matt, thank you very much. Do you call
him William Shakespeare or do you call him Bill Shakespeare?
Call him Billy you do not, nobody, You've not even
brought up his name. I call him Billy Shakes. You
do not, as a Twitter handle at Billy Shakes. It
looks like he's half bald, at least in these paintings. Anyways.
So I'm just saying, if there's something that you would
(23:00):
that you would like to bring up, like, hey, I
was talking about buddies that. I mean a lot of
the things that you and I talk about group chat Tuesday.
It's it is a group chat Tuesday. Now. The things
that I are in my group chat, I can't mention
any of them because they're they're really rude. So we
try to be as plas as we can't hear on
this radio show. So if you'd like to be with
(23:21):
us for anything, uh seven one three two one two
five seven and eighty so seven one three, two one
two five seven any we can thank the Arizona Diamondbacks
ROSSI yesterday, Yes, they walk off grand Slam in the
eleventh inning. Love it as. The Diamondbacks beat the Mariners
by a score of eight to four. Yeah. That game
(23:42):
was on FS one and it was they was in
the ninth inning with like one out and they were
up four to one. Where they're Diamondbacks. I turned it off.
So did you actually watch the game? I watched, I
mean I had it on. Let's put it that way.
I wasn't like actively watching pitch by pitch, but I
had it on. Yeah, I always forget about FS one.
I shouldn't forget that FS one. That would have been
(24:02):
a great game to obviously watch. And I caught the
extended highlights this morning. So that's eight to four. Seattle
wins the loser of the game. They're now three back.
I want you to put yourself in the framework of
being a Seattle Mariner fan. Okay, hold on, I gotta
get smarmy and douchey. I gotta feel holier than now.
(24:24):
I gotta make myself think that the Mariners are the
greatest franchise of all time when they haven't done squat. Okay,
I'm ready, nicely done. Okay, so let's get to it.
Number one. Your franchise has had a handful of winning
seasons since the nineteen seventies. Yes, you had two first
(24:44):
ballot Hall of Famers each, Euro Suzuki and Ken Griffy
throw a rod in there. Well, yeah, not getting in.
And you had a Gaylor. Perry was a Mariner, but
he's spent a lot of time in different places. But
let's go to Echiro and Ken Griffy, okay, and you
made some playoff appearances, but you didn't do jack with him. No,
(25:07):
then you build this beautiful ballpark in one of the most
beautiful cities you would think would be an attractive place
for players to go. It's one of the most cosmopolitan
cities in North America. And again, it rains a lot there,
but people don't really worry about that kind of stuff,
and you're just a mid Julei Rodriguez four or five
(25:30):
years ago, came on the scene. It was a major, major,
major star. This guy was a franchise esque type player,
and you give him this hillatiously twelve year deal, big contract,
and ever since then he's basically no disrespect to your
friend Jake Myers, but he's Shake Myers. Oh, hold on, now,
(25:50):
that is way disrespectful to Julio Rodriguez. He's better than Jake.
But come on, man, that bad. You got this picture
named George Kulbe, who's been really, really good. You've got
the major league leader in home runs in cal Rawley, right, yes,
and you're losing the Diamondbacks eight to four and you're
(26:11):
three out and oh, the worst part of it is
you ready for this, ROSSI no, the team that's beating you.
You're in the worst division in baseball probably, and the
team in front of you has its best slugger out
and has been out for five six weeks. Yes, three
(26:33):
fifths of their starting rotation is out for the year
or has been gone for a long period of time.
They literally are wearing out the Sugarland Express bus to
go between sugar Land and Houston to bring up starting pitching.
Mm hmm. Their biggest free engine acquisition is not even
batting his weight, and they got a three game lead
(26:54):
on you in the America League West. Poor Mariner fan,
you don't want to make you know what what I
want to do with that, and I can't because today's
world is a lot different than it was radio twenty
years ago. I like to call Seattle sports bars and
just say, hey, can I find a Mariner fan. We
used to do that once in a while on this
(27:14):
show many many years. It's a thirty there. That's rude. Yeah,
he's just opening his eyes getting his coffee. You didn't
want to hear rude things from you, especially if there's
team lost in extra innings to the moves. But just
think about it. That's why I say, in many respects,
we ought to be very blessed what we have. This
(27:37):
team is not a world content. I mean, it's not
on par with the Yankees and the Tigers. But again,
the Tiger's been you gotta been there, done that. They
went to the playoffs last year. They beat US US
because I'm back up their basement. They beat the Astros.
They lost in their division series. Yankees, I mean, yeah,
they won the you know, they won them American League.
Good for them, and they've been a perennial playoff team.
(28:00):
Also spend more money than anybody else, so you know,
should be there. You don't get that much credit for me. Yeah,
you're right, man, we're very blessed here in here. We
need to sit back and relax and enjoy what we're
going through right now because it could be significantly worse.
You could be Seattle fan. Poor guys, I got more
(28:22):
for you. Go be Angel fan. You spent well, that's true.
You're just like six thousand of you part of Orange County. Okay,
stay with me on this ROSSI on this one. You
are the Dodgers bitch number one. You're a little brother
in your own town. You want a world Series. Jockie
(28:46):
got more run than the team did. It's true. Okay, wow,
you're not getting this, commented the Mother Shows. I'm actually
proud of you for that one. Thank you very much.
You play in a dump. You put lipstick on a pig.
I don't think it's bad. But but compared to everything,
compared to the tash Mahll that's north of you in
Los Angeles at Dodger Stadium, you're just not gonna do it.
(29:08):
They actually spent money. Mike Trout got a huge deal, Anthony.
So you spend all this crazy money on Mike Trout,
who can't stay healthy. When he plays, he's really good,
but he can't stay healthy. He's known Michael Brandley. But
we move on from that. Uh, you spent crazy money
with Anthony Rendon, who never is healthy. It doesn't seem
to care about baseball. And then you had a generational
(29:30):
player and show, Hey, o'tana generation generation all time? People
talk about him since like the greatest baby. Yes, and
he says, not only am I going to leave you,
but I'm going to leave you for the big brother. Mmm.
It's tough. So let's stay with the America League West Okay,
hain't none. The Oakland days. Excuse me, the sacrament As,
(29:52):
I mean, excuse me, the lost Las Vegas, A's o
Cramento in the sixties and the seventies and in the
eighties and in part of the nineties. Ross that's a
franchise that won Carney Lanceford, Mark McGuire, Reggie Jackson, Ricky Henderson,
Jose Conseco, Dave Stewart. I mean, boom, boom, boom. I
(30:15):
mean thirty thirty years of excellence. And they could never
get a stadium. They couldn't even get a stadium in
the Oakland calcium improved dump. They just put a tarp
and called it Mount Davis. Had more possums than fans
in there. It's one of the biggest metropolitan cities in
(30:36):
markets in America. San Francisco slash Oakland. They don't treat
them as two different cities. They treat them as one,
like Dallas for worth, there's plenty of money there. They
couldn't get a stadium. Oakland's crime went up and the
and the A's became miserly. We have it better in Houston.
All those years and years and years of World Series
(30:58):
appearances and wins and playoff appearances, and now they're playing
in Sacramento in front of eight thousand people. But I'm
not done. Okay, Yes, the Texas Rangers won a World
Series a couple of years ago, they bought one, but
how how do you celebrate it? By starting off a
parade at Walmart? And then you go to the Rendy's
(31:18):
to get a riggie bag. Everyone's more locked in on
Cowboys camp, and while they are very happy that the
Rangers won, they're like, please get out of the way
of this parade. I'm trying to go to Texas to
watch the Cowboys at mini camp. Then they spend all
this money. Who's the jibbroni at first basis bat like
one fifty their first basement. No, it's are you talking about? Wait,
(31:45):
Cory Seeker's not hitting, Marcus Simon's not hitting, going like
nine teams their first basement. Jock Peters Jack Peterson, guys
can't bat half his way. He's generous of Christian Walker's
numbers at this point. So you get a parade through
(32:05):
the pawnshops and department stores of Arlington. People in Dallas
could give two craps about your team. You basically stole
the bit from dyke In Park to create your own stadium.
And you don't even have a TV network. They don't
well they have now Rangers TV, but that doesn't you know,
(32:25):
they're not getting any revenue from that. So as I
say to you, you're at ten forty four, Rossie, it
could be worse. We must be blessed at the local
baseball team has a full stadium most nights. I'll give
aways help. I would belive OK night thirty five thousand,
(32:45):
that's a win for the astro on a Tuesday against
the marketing one on one. That's true Dollar dog night.
People can't run to get a dog fast enough. I
was crushing them. By the way, should I get dogs on unders?
Should I got to the main media meal? You want
to spend twelve dollars? You want to spend three? I
kept follow me only two hot dogs? Oh there you go,
two bucks. But if I want to get Chilian cheese
will cost me next for five? Kim Thomas did cost
(33:07):
me gainnough, you didn't have to run out of there
by the fifth inning if you get Chilian cheese. So
I say, Houston, Texas, we are blessed ten forty four
on The Matt Thomas Show with Raws seven to one
three two one two five seventy Do you know that?
No other I just broke down the American League West
for you. Thank you, Matt. It was masterful and that's
(33:27):
why we own that domain. This is like watching Picasso paint. Wow,
this is incredible. Or like Ziggler giving a motivational speech.
I have fired up the community. He's a former motivational speaker.
He's dead not familiar like Tony Robbins. Based Yeah, just
like Tony Robbins. I'm the Tony Robbins of Houston sports talk.
(33:49):
If that's a good thing or a bad thing? Is
that a good thing? Is any criminal activity? I don't
think so. A lot of those guys do I know?
Zig Ziggler was like to steal money from people now
he rests seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
If you were to do a we would do a
fantasy five of summer songs. Ooh, I'm gonna do it
(34:13):
this Friday. I'm off. How about next Friday? How are
you working? I mean it's hard to keep track these days.
I get vacation days. Thus I must take them. That
was a rough blow. I knew that I one't hurt Matt,
and he's always trying to dig at me. That's fine,
it's fine think at me when I'm off. That's how
it works. Yeah, I do, I call it. Yeah, it works. Yeah,
he's know how the eighties spelt. Just what do you mean?
Speaker 6 (34:36):
Just the time a vibe when you walked outside. No,
no technology, no internet. With simpler times, it's fogging in
the fields. Yeah, not everybody buried in their phone seventeen
hours a day. People were nicer, I would, yeah, know
how to accurate interact with other humans.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
People are nicer back then, I would think. So, Yeah,
we weren't worried about crime like we are today. It
depends it was still crying. It depends on where you
lived and grew up. But I mean I would. I
mean I grew up with Green's point. Matt, you were
worried about other day you were born. You were nimmits, baby,
(35:15):
Oh protective it our all situations. Shut up all the nimits. Yeah.
Uh so maybe a week from Friday we'll do a
summer songs to write this down, write it down. So
because we'll forget fantasy vive songs that make you think
of the summer, and if you want to use that song,
(35:36):
you can. Okay, certainly applicable. So sliced nassy, Okay, pocket
full of Sunshine? What did you say? Pocket full of sunshine?
And your your speed talking again?
Speaker 4 (35:49):
Man?
Speaker 1 (35:49):
I was like, what that one was bad? There is
one song that I love for the summertime that when
I'm bringing up on the show, Jonathan, I get routinely
ripped on. So I'm not gonna bring up is it?
Uh Ma, Marina in the Maves? It might be you.
You've drafted that in something and one I can't remember
(36:10):
what it was. This is a song. It's a feel
good song. I goes, I'm still mad. Give me the
songs I can listening back there, Katrina in the Waves,
walking on Sunshine. I took it. I took Lovely Day
by Bill Withers and somebody said that the Lovely Daybay.
But whether it wasn't a feel good song, I'm still
angry about that. What Yeah, exactly, I love Lovely Day exactly.
(36:32):
Sometimes we have these stupid drunk judges. But anyways, okay,
we go ahead week for Friday, summer songs that make
you think about the summer. Okay, on the Fantasy five. Okay,
now we Jonathan will have to be a judge to
determine whether or not this song is about the summer.
(36:52):
But okay, I think it'd be pretty easy to figure out.
Speaker 6 (36:55):
Then we can't use this one. Why not, because then
there'll be an extra point for whoever.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
No, it's fine, Yeah, you can use it. Huh. Yeah,
all right, so slides stone believe it or not today
coming up at till one fifty this Afternokay, all right.
Speaker 2 (37:12):
I have.
Speaker 1 (37:14):
Discussed and you have as well the last few years
that our media has changed. When I learned this business
and worked my way through it, you had TV, you
had radio, you had newspapers, you had magazines, and that
was just about it. But things do change. The Internet
has opened up, youtubes and podcasts have certainly been a
(37:37):
big part of it. And what it has turned out
to be is you have looser media guidelines as to
who covers things and who discusses things. There are more platforms,
there's more room for inaccuracies, embellishment standards and practices are
mostly gone. Yeah, if you've heard a rumor about something,
(38:00):
you don't go check with two other people. You just
put it on Twitter. If it hits, you're a hero.
And if you're wrong, like well, I must have gotten
some bad information, there's no justified And again these also
and the teams are responsible too, because the teams want
any sort of coverage. So if you give them positive coverage,
they'll give you credential. Matter of fact, if you want
to go to the Texans today and just call yourself something, yeah,
(38:21):
call yourself, I don't know, go to GoDaddy dot com,
get to a spend your ten dollars for a website
and call yourself Texans for Life dot com and they'll
give you a credential. They as will well. To the
bigger point of this is and this is also for
NBA and baseball teams too. This is not just the Texans.
(38:41):
John Boy Media, oh my, we found out about John
Boy Media what during the buzzers During the alleged buzzer
that's the first I heard of it, completely off of
a Reddit story. No facts to it, no foundation to it,
(39:02):
no evidence of it, no anything about it. Just whoever
John boy is created this narrative that jose Al Tube
used a buzzer to help him figure out when you
know what pitch was coming and whatnot. And he got
away with it. No one crushed him and people the
(39:23):
crushed him, but it was astrophans. But it was a
small group. Twenty nine of the other thirty NBA in
MLB cities thought that they were that this was legit.
So that's why out Jose Al Tuobe to this day
gets still booed because people don't believe him. Yes, we
have a story for you at the top of the
hour that's going to piss you off. I'm pretty to yell.
(39:46):
You already got my blood boiler. I'll read it and
you comment, right, Is that fair? I'm ready. You are
not going to believe what John Boys headlines are today,
all right? Remember I tell you about John Boy Media
and how they basically created a narrative that Jsel two
BA was cheating during the World Series. Major League Baseball.
(40:10):
I'm going to present this without comment, and then Ross
can comment, and then you can comment if you'd like it.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninty. Major League
Baseball has acquired an undisclosed minority stake in John Boy Media.
The equity deal sees the league looking to extend its
(40:31):
presence among baseball content creators, and the agreement will involve
John Boy Media gaining access to league and team ips,
participating in merchandising and sponsorship collaborations, and having a presence
for some of its content on league platforms. The two
sides will additionally work to have current stars, as well
(40:51):
as media and celebrity partners, appear on John Boy Media's
The Warehouse Games, a sports league modeled after Backyard Games.
How did John Boy originally become popular? A series of
lip reading videos in which it breaks down often profane
on field arguments involving managers, players, and umps. It has
(41:16):
ninety three million social engagements last year, four hundred million
video views in its history, and ultimately again with the
leaders in the Clubhouse in saying that jose Al Tuve
had a buzzer on during a home run that won
a baseball game. Congratulations John Boy, Congratulations human society for
(41:42):
giving this dirt bag company a run. We already live
in a society, and we were talking about this in
the last segment, Matt, and it's an evolving media world
where you have to be online and you have to
make podcasts and videos, and what happens? How do you
get into the algorithm? How do you get views? You
sensationalized stuff, You make stuff up, You make things bigger
(42:03):
than they are. It kind of is what it is
at this point. But for Major League Baseball to get
involved with this media entity that I had never even
heard of before, this one hundred percent completely made up
josel too of a buzzer thing where this idiot is
(42:24):
making videos where he thinks Josh Reddick has a buzzer
on him and it's a piece of confetti, and he's
breaking down and zooming in on videos of Robinson Chirino's
bat and thinking he's got a b Why would he
have a buzzer on the barre of his bat? How
stupid are you? And then it's it's an authentication sticker.
(42:45):
And then now because of all this stupid made up
stuff that he did that that got millions and millions
and millions of views and was the catalyst for his
company being as big as it is, and all this
money he's getting from Major League Baseball to now where
Jose A l tuve everywhere he goes. The guy that
didn't even participate in this cheating scandal gets booed everywhere everywhere,
(43:08):
and you still have these idiots on Twitter bringing up
this made up buzzer thing. He never apologized, he never
showed any remorse for making this up, and he's made
millions or whatever he's made off of it while completely
lacking credibility. This is insane. Karma is not real. I
(43:30):
can't believe this, that major League Baseball is getting involved
with somebody who look, Okay, they put out daily Baseball content.
You're major League Baseball. You need to kind of partner
with these types of things. As we said, it's an
evolving media world, So I get it on its face,
but it's it's absolutely absurd to me that a house
(43:50):
of cards of no credibility has not crumbled for these people.
And this guy Jamboy, who's just making made stuff up.
He calls him jam boy. It's John Boys, but I
don't care. I mean, by the way he's who what
is it? What is a John Boy? What does that
even mean? Well, I mean there's a bunch of like
(44:11):
bar Yeah, it's you can make anything name you want, guys.
I'm on MLB Network tonight, I'm Johnboy. What that's not
on your birth certificate? Grow up? How old is this guy?
So here's here's my interpretation of this. They s John
Major League Baseball has always worried about staying young. They
(44:34):
worry about their demographics, of their age, of the people
that buy the tickets and go and care about the sport.
I would think the average John Boy media follower fan
of theirs is probably under the age of thirty five.
Fair to say, yes, I don't know what kind of
(44:55):
economic impact they have. Uh, I don't know if they're
season ticket holders. I don't know if they go to
one game of a year, or they just don't even
go to games. They just like to watch baseball on
social media platforms and or TV networks. I don't know
what the demographic is. This is the effort of Major
(45:16):
League Baseball and Rob Manford to say, we're trying to
reach a younger fan base, and if we get in
cahoots with John Boy, we can do that because this
is the next generation of baseball fans. What I'm worried
about is this. If this is the next generation of
baseball fans, my guess is it's a volatile group. It's
(45:39):
a group that doesn't understand the sport. It's a group
that is always thinking about the next conspiracy out there.
It's also the next group that probably doesn't have the
financial wherewithal to go to ten to fifteen games a year.
They will go to their Twitter account and retweet John
Boy and say all the things of all there's another
indictment against him. But they don't spend money, they don't
(46:01):
purchase the uniforms, they don't do this. They're just on
John Boy's jock. So I wish you, Major League Baseball
the very best in trying to pass off John Boy
as a legitimate member of your communications group. Because here's
what's gonna happen. You're gonna see John Boy getting players.
You're gonna see teams being pressured to put John Boy.
(46:23):
If you're the Astros, I mean, if you're Jim Crane today,
are you calling Rob Manford and going what are you
doing now? Again? This is not about economic impact for
the sport. This is the Major League Baseball folks paying
to get into John Boy, to get that audience. It's disgusting.
(46:47):
I'm embarrassed for I'm embarrassed for twenty four. We're in
the twenty first century, right, I'm embarrassed for twenty first
century media. I always alas one ahead, right, I'm embarrassed for
twenty first century media. I'm inmbarrassed from Major League Baseball,
and I'm embarrassed that the Houston Astro is an organization,
are going to have to acquiesce to John Boy Media
for something. You're going to see a Houston Astro on
(47:10):
John Boy Media because Major League Baseball is going to
force the Astros to do that. Hopefully not. I mean,
I guess it doesn't matter. What's done is done here,
but it's just.
Speaker 4 (47:22):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (47:23):
Oh, I know, I exactly. I don't know, no question,
I don't know. If I'm gonna watch my language, that's why.
And I'm gonna be purely selfish here for a second. Look,
we're not you and I are not journalists. No, I've never,
in my entire life ever said we were a journalist.
There are some people that are that do this for
(47:45):
a living that think they're journalists, and we're not. We
are entertainers. If you're not entertained by our show, we're
not around. We are here to entertain, we can provide information.
We hopefully get you a good guess we do some
funny things, but we're an entertainment product. What we don't
do is manufacture things for the sake of set entertainment.
(48:07):
And what John Boy did to jose Al Tuve, who
still has to wear that literally is a black guy
to the sport. And I cannot believe that major League
Baseball would partner up with a group of people whoever
this group is, because obviously John Boy is a huge
group now is compared to just being a couple of
Jebbronis and saying, you know what, I guess if we
(48:31):
can't beat them, we might as well join him. I'm
trying to think of a parallel an analogy on this.
You know, I'm with me in analogies, I'm terrible at them.
But I'm embarrassed for the sport that I love that
they would invest in something like this and basically justify
the behaviors of a group. Now again, I don't know
(48:54):
what else. So what else did John Boy do besides
the whole stuff with Altub? Was there other things involved?
I mean, I think he was just doing a Yankees
podcast and then I don't even know what else. Please
please please listen to our show Tell your friends about
(49:15):
our show. We try to do it the right way.
Are we perfect every day? No, but we try. We
don't manufacture things just to get more people to listen
to our show or to follow our social media's. It's
it never works out, and I hope this is a disaster.
(49:36):
But John Boy Media today is feeling really damn good.
They should day one. Yeah, I mean they Yeah, you're
right Day one the bad guys wanted. I'm upset about it. Yeah,
Or I should say that the manufacturing liar is won,
whomever that may be. Philip and Paarland at eleven ten
(49:56):
on seven ninety Philip, good morning, Hey, good more.
Speaker 9 (50:00):
Yeah, Matt, First, I'm impressed that your reaction is just
that you're only embarrassed. I am super pissed off, and
of course it comes from a Yankees podcast. Or how
am I not surprised? You know, you know, why not
blow you know, really investigates this initial buzzer story, you know,
(50:22):
why not blow the guy out of the water instead?
Here he is. You've just you've just ignited his popularity.
The fact that he's New York based is gonna make
it worse. Those broadcasters in New York are gonna continue
to foice this live that he used this buzzer way back.
I mean, the Yankees have felt you know, we have
(50:44):
owned the Yankees for for many years now. I love it,
love the Astros, love Jim Crane, and I'm not at
all surprised that it's the freaking New York you know presence,
you know, and the fact that he's a New York
base you know, Yankees. It's a done deal. And what
(51:04):
I worry about what's going to become of his Hall
of same bit. You know, sometimes you hear, oh, it's
a lock, Michael Wilbont, it's a lock he's in, you know.
But the the New York dwebs, you know, they continue
to bring this up about Altuve in the World Series
against well not against the Yankees, but you know, cheating
(51:26):
the Yankees out of their out of their you know.
Cashman still contends this for crying out last.
Speaker 1 (51:33):
Yeah, but I've moved past that. The problem is that
other cities have not. Jose al Tuve gets bowed exclusively
for the buzzer. How many times is major League Baseball
so that joseel tub was not involved in this ump team,
but he gets booed hell, he gets booting cities that
(51:53):
don't even boot people in Cleveland. He got boot in Pittsburgh. Yeah, Pittsburgh.
I mean Jesus usually be booing your own team pirates,
which they did.
Speaker 6 (52:03):
But Matt, you weren't there when I brought this up
to russ Even when I was in Kentucky, I was,
and they heard I was from Houston. They would always
bring up the trash cans and the out and back
when I'm even the western Kentucky like it's like a
whole known thing and like weird because of that.
Speaker 1 (52:18):
You know what you people want to Kentucky. You need
more about running water, worry about the damn josel to
worry about the basic dentistry. Yeah, worry about what's between
your cheek and gums. What eleven thirteen we got got
feelings at the bottom of the hour, I gotta got feeling.
I'm gonna be pissed off the rest of the day.
I just I it's sad. Today's been a tough day
(52:41):
for me. I got so many people are texting me
out of control about this loser media. That's the Texans
practice right now, y'all. If y'all know me, stop doing
it stop just pissing me off. Thank God I got
you people out there. I really blessed because hey, uh
(53:06):
seven one three two one two five seven ninety We've
got gut feelings coming up in about twelve minutes from now.
It is the Matt Thomas Show with Ross seven to
one three two one two five seven ninety seven one
three two one two five seven ninety. I got to
bring this up really quick. Going back to the phones,
(53:26):
Congratulations to Texas Tech. U. I saw a number that
is going to blow you away on their NIL. Now,
they have a guy that owned and owned an oil
and gas company and he sold it for like two
or three billion dollars. Man, that's a but it's an
(53:48):
insane amount of money. And so all he he's like
their Phil Knight, Phil Knight. Uh, he's like their t
boon pickings at Oklahoma State. Who else is out there?
H mean close? Yeah. So this guy named Brandon Marcello,
who is a national college football reporter for CBS Sports,
says that he found he found out that between the
(54:13):
NIL and revenue sharing with the NCAA is going to
start kicking in the next couple of years. H that
Texas Tech's going to have for its players between the
NIL and revenue sharing, fifty five million dollars. It'll be
the per says, perhaps the highest paying college athletics program
(54:33):
in the country. I would have had on my list
of schools paying fifty five million dollars, I would not
have had Texas Tech at the top of my list.
That's crazy. See this is greats baby, let's go. When's
the last time Texas Tech won a national championship in football? Zero? Probably? Never?
Never basketba never baseball, No, who knows? They almost won
(54:57):
the national championship in softball, though they ran up against
the juggernaut. That's all right, that happens. They're Red Raider club.
You don't have to get you have to spread out
the twenty million dollars a year that Red Rader clubs like.
We got the first fourteen of it. Don't warn about
We got that fourteen for you right there. WHOA see,
(55:17):
nil money's good. Everybody said it's gonna keep the powers
that be and the powers that be, but anybody can
get skin in the game with the NIL era. You know,
I'm gonna give you and the players are gonna get paid.
I'm gonna give you another sneaky school to keep an
eye on instead of Texas SMU Southern Millionaires University. I'm
just saying it could get something going. If Texas Tech
(55:39):
and SMU or all of a sudden better and overall
athletics in the next ten years. I got news for you.
It ain't just because of their facilities and their great education.
You'd be getting those two schools. Mm hmmm. So the
question then would be who's coming in outside of Texas.
Who's the next school we're gonna be?
Speaker 10 (55:56):
Like?
Speaker 1 (55:57):
What they got that money? I don't know, could be
an I think Rutgers has been spending a lot of money.
Rogers has going to have two top ten players in
the NBA Draft coming up. Not that does any they
make the tournament though, right, No, how do you have
two top ten pikes and you don't even make the
tournament in basketball? Good question. Let's go back on the
phones and talk to the great people of Houston, Texas.
(56:18):
John seven ninety eleven twenty two, John, Good morning, Hey, good.
Speaker 11 (56:22):
Morning to you, Matt Ross appor see you guys taking
my call?
Speaker 1 (56:25):
You got it.
Speaker 11 (56:26):
I'm not a good person of Houston.
Speaker 1 (56:30):
You're not a what a good person of Houston.
Speaker 11 (56:33):
Yeah, you said, back to the good people of Utah.
Speaker 1 (56:36):
All right, you miserable? SOB what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (56:40):
You know, I just passed a sign that said you
ain't a spunge factory coming up in six miles. I
don't know about that. They got some weird stuff here
in Missouri anyway. I wanted to talk about John Boy media.
Speaker 10 (56:53):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (56:53):
I think the truth is that, honestly, people just love
to be live to, you know, like, you know, if
you can and somebody that touched negatively by your ex
girlfriend or your rival, you know, you're just gonna eat
that stuff up. Imagine how many Yankees fans ate that
stuff up when they posted that story. So that's that's
that's what the truth is. People just really enjoy getting
(57:15):
lied to. It makes them feel better about themselves my opinion.
Speaker 1 (57:20):
Yeah, I mean they were looking for a reason of
why they the Yankees lost, correct and they found it.
It wouldn't be because you know, the Astros were better,
and the Astros have owned the Yankees for ten years now,
and it clearly didn't help that what happened in twenty seventeen.
You take, you take the real evidence, and you had
(57:41):
it with conjecture, and then everything becomes the true, blended
all together, and it spits out false, made up, easily
easily debunked stupidity, and Major League Baseball just said, we
don't care. We want that young group. Like I'm looking
at their I don't know what their Instagram followers are,
(58:04):
but their John Boy media is at four hundred and
thirteen thousand people. That's not that's not even, that's not crazy.
That's not Now what is John Boy by himself? Let
me look at John Boy by himself. I don't know
he's blocked. Uh, he's at five hundred ninety four thousand. Yeah,
their Instagram almost has a million, he says on there
on his John Boy this is at John Boy not
(58:26):
a reporter Yankees fan. But there's a lot of people
that I know that follow them. Thinkes you what, curious
as to why? Okay, So between that the two John
Boy media counters a million followers, which is that's nice,
but that's not her shattering. It's not crazy. Now again,
(58:48):
this minority state could be very minimal. They didn't say
how much it was or what it percentage it was,
but they're digging in and John Boy's like, yes, we'll
take your money, and so we'll take your content, and
we will we will take you. You're telling me you're
gonna give us players, You're gonna give us an opportunity
to get into the Major League Baseball windows, behind the
scenes and all the kind of stuff that Jennarian's clicks
(59:10):
we're in. We'll sign a deal with you. Major League
Baseball is like, so, you got twenty three year olds
that make twenty thousand dollars a year, We'll take them
and hopes that maybe when they're thirty three years old
they make one hundred and twenty thousand dollars a year.
This is this is a this is an attempt to
get younger. This, in my mind, the only thing they're doing. Yeah,
(59:33):
I mean, I get it, but it's just crazy that
this they didn't do it the right way to me,
John Boy media, and it's getting rewarded. That's that's the thing. Okay,
But we've bothered. But we've seen people do things that's
easily to get popular. I mean, I that's part of
the media. I mean, let's go, let's be Kim Kardashian. Oh, okay,
(59:57):
had sex with Ray J and it. But you know
what those have a crazy jump. But you know, stay
with me on this. Tell me, Jonathan, how did Kim
Kardashian get famous? Answer my question one sentence and one
sentence alone on a back website on the Paris Hilton.
Wouldn't she with Paris Hilton on her reality show? And
(01:00:19):
then she got to spin off Keeping Up with the
Kardashan What got what got her soul popper to begin
with having sex with Ray J and getting a videotape? YEA, yeah,
but at least that was honest, hard work. She wasn't
she wasn't making stuff up. She could have really did it.
(01:00:39):
It wasn't Ai. They didn't have Ai. And that's true.
That's true. Patrick West on her back. Okay, Patrick, good morning.
Speaker 12 (01:00:48):
Hey, good morning guys. Hi All, this is crazy with
John Boys stuff. Like the last guy said, it's the
pander Yankees fans. I guess because most of their championships
come before baseball was even integrated. They got all those
championships and only white people are allowed to play.
Speaker 3 (01:01:03):
They gotta make it feel better.
Speaker 12 (01:01:04):
But other than that, if I'm not as sure I
if you're forced to give them a player to interview,
I just thought Shavee Wakem to them. That's all they did,
Shay Wakeham. Nobody yells until they apologize. I'm sorry, Shay.
You gotta take one for the team. Thanks guys, you
all get.
Speaker 1 (01:01:19):
One you later, I did Shaye Wakem getting this conversation
that's rude, which is like while by catching trays. Yeah,
I don't think he had any errors on Sunday. What
you know? You say it about every other player. Why
are you looking at me like that? You could have
said that about a bunch of different people, do jerem
opinion't have any errors yesterday? No, nobody had an error yesterday,
(01:01:41):
or you can say before all right, time for us
to get some gut feelings out, all right? What do
you get in your gut? I feel disgusted in my
gut seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five seven ninty. It's
time for gut feelings. This is where you make sports fortions.
If you get them right, we make you a hero.
(01:02:02):
If you get them wrong, we typically don't make fun
of you. Eleven twenty eight here on Sports Talk seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
seven one three two one two five, seven ninety listen up,
Gus and by segment, so appealsten that Tommas you'll they
got a gut dealer. This is their gut feeling on
(01:02:23):
the Matt Thomas Show. This is we spend the time.
We spend thirty minutes per week making sports predictions. When
we hit, we brag about them, and we miss on them.
Unless they are completely absurd, we don't make fun of them. Ross.
Before we get to this week's predictions, we want you
guys to make your predictions and lydies as well. At
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
(01:02:44):
one three two one two five seven Hounty, how do
we do last week? Matt Thomas? Last week you said
the Rockets do not draft number ten in the NBA draft.
We'll see how that goes. That remains to be seen
two weeks from tomorrow, by the way, you will also uh,
it's two weeks from marrow. It's kids coming up. You
gotta have Kevin Durant traded by then. Yep, I don't
(01:03:07):
know if if you said that, if we lock that
in on a feeling, you may be finding out in
matter moments. Yes, okay, you also said no yord on
Alvarez for the Astros until after the All Star break.
Feel great about that? Feel great about it? Why do
you feel great about that, Matt? Because sure, because I
don't believe anybody Joe a spot at twelve thirty. By
(01:03:31):
the way, Oh, wonderful thunder and five. You said it
is one to one. Yep, we'll see if the Pacers
can get a split back in their place. I think
game number three will be on July first. That's actually
pretty funny.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
C J.
Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Stroud is following this up to me. This is over
to me, I said, c J. Strout is fine, nothing
to worry about, ready for training camp and season. Now
if his shoulders throbbing after practice today, and make amends
with that. Oh look at this one too, lansome Colors
junior back to back quality starts. You are so proud
of yourself. Well, it was the Pirates lineup. It was.
(01:04:10):
It wasn't like it was the greatest call of all.
We'll talk. Yeah, we'll see, we'll see might not might
might have breaked that out. Then I also said thunder
in five and I only wrote down one for Jonathan Allen.
He said Pacers in six. So far he's on trying
and he remains bulletshow on that he should? So, Jonathan,
We're gonna let you go first. Remember, speak slowly and clearly.
(01:04:33):
Give us some of your nunciation. It's key.
Speaker 6 (01:04:38):
Astros win. I think they're gonna win the next six
games in a row. Oh wow, six good Knights in
a row with White Sox last time. Okay, come back
with vengeance and then the Minnesota Twins and the Minnesota Twins.
I don't have any help for him, Okay, I'm surprised,
but I think the next six games are gonna be us.
Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
You know that Ryan Gusto is throwing some of those games,
and would you be why hating on the Gusto? He's fine, Martinez.
It is what it is saying. Where is Seth Martinez?
We could use him? And why is that so horrible
since the last time we played them? Soon well, they
won the last series against the Astros, and that it's
(01:05:22):
time for revenge, all right, go ahead, Matt, Kevin Durant
will be traded before the draft. Boom? Okay, and may
I give you the favorite that I'm going to go
ahead and jump aboard on this. I think he's going
to San Antonio. San Antonio, who would San Antonio give
(01:05:47):
up for that? You think? Uh, Jeremy Sohan some picks. Picks,
they want picks. You gotta match that big salary, though.
I maybe Harrison Barnes, Uh, Chris Paul's afraid and that
doesn't work out there? Who else would they give up?
I don't think they would give up Stefan Castle. I
(01:06:10):
don't think you'd want to do that. I don't think either.
Keldon Johnson, Devin Vacell. Yeah, you guys, guys that big
I could see Vacell, sure, Okay, Kelvin Johnson, I like
I would. I'd put him in a Rocky uniform tomorrow
if I could. You can't. I can't. He's in a
San Antonio. By the way, I wrote down your gut
feeling from yesterday Pierce, Damian Pierce traded by week one? Yeah,
(01:06:33):
Damian Pierce will not be a part of the Texans
in twenty twenty five. That's a gut feeling. Okay, all right,
what you guys gotta say, traded or release you? I'm
gonna yeah, that's fine. Okay, all right, folks, you got
a big one. No, you pregnant pausive for a saying
I gave you back to back quality starts. Yeah you'd
(01:06:54):
We got Lance mccallor so on the day by the way, Yeah,
back too back, too bad, three quality starts in a row.
What's up? Say? What? What's up? What?
Speaker 4 (01:07:08):
Bro?
Speaker 1 (01:07:09):
What are you talking about?
Speaker 13 (01:07:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:07:10):
I like that? That's good? All right? Come on, no, Russ,
all right, show some faith. How many picture you're gonna
throw tonight? I don't know. We threw him ninety six
last time out. I feel like Ross is jinxing Lance
with Colors man. I said, back to that quality starts
literally last week, and he did it. So how am
I doing that?
Speaker 2 (01:07:27):
Now?
Speaker 6 (01:07:27):
You're now you're egging you no, not egging anything out,
riding on the high and you know, you know, knowing
the back away from the table like Matt.
Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
You guys don't know. Just May thirteenth, what the LNGO is?
May thirteenth, literally four days after the Reds disaster, I said,
I'm not leaving Lance with Colors Junior Island. I'm backing
my guy and he's been coming up big. What's up?
I'm doing it again. I ain't scared. Christian Walker's batting
(01:07:56):
average is two o six right now? Correct?
Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
Ye?
Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Please don't say something starting with a one. By the
time we do this next Tuesday, thank god, he will
be a two fifteen or higher. Okay, I want you
to be right. I don't know that you're gonna be right.
You just need him to hit two thirty for a
week or something like that. Chriss and Walker. I think
a nine point bumping would mean probably three or four
(01:08:22):
multi hit games a right, maybe not three or four
now at this stage of season. No, all right, we're
not going to do the man, I'll do the math
for you to all right, anything else from you, Jonathan,
go there before we go to the audience. No, I
think I'm good. Okay, I want to. I want to
give you one more. Uh. I'm gonna go and put
this way out there. I'm gonna go with Chubb less
(01:08:49):
than five hundred yards. Okay, Okay with that, that's fine.
Oh I got one for you. I got another one
for you. Write this one down. Okay. The Texans will
not have anybody rush for one thousand yards this year.
See now, why would you do that? That doesn't necessarily
mean it's a bad thing. I think it does in
(01:09:13):
a seventeen game season. No, you got we got one guy,
rushing for nine forty another one for four forty seven,
another one for five nineteen. Uh, you needed one of
those guys. Gotta step up. He's gotta be Joe Mixon.
It's gonna be all Woody marks all the time. Maybe, Yeah,
I'm gonna I'm gonna go with it. Not a single
thousand yard rusher. But that's not necessarily guaranteeing a bad thing. Okay,
(01:09:40):
all right, sure, why not? I forgot Barkley went for
two thousand yards. Oh, by the way, and by the way,
CIJ Straw will not throw tomorrow. Wren't that down? Sixteen
rushers went for one thousand yards last year. That's not
a lot, including Joe Mixon. Yeah, I think play fourteen games. Yeah, yeah,
I'm okay with that. I'm gonna stay with that. The
he goes, I don't, I think it'll pass with this
(01:10:01):
pass prediction seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you got a gut feeling, let's get it in
right now. Ed seven ninety Good morning, Hello, Ed, great
to hear from me.
Speaker 5 (01:10:17):
Ed.
Speaker 1 (01:10:17):
How are things mm hmm? What your wife's sleeping around
on you? Oh? Come on, that's terrible. I hate hearing
about that.
Speaker 10 (01:10:26):
Ed.
Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
You haven't paid your income tax and since nineteen eighty seven, Ed,
how you you dropped? I don't even know. If you
wanted to get feelings, then around Datter. We invited him
on the show. All right, So if you have anty
got feelings, let your voice be heard right now. It's
seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven ninety Our buddy
(01:10:47):
Duanna l Passa was a question about the nil. That's
you know what, you're a nial experty. That's good, that's
all right. So Gordy, if you're listening, you we need
you in here because we've got anil question here. It's
going to confuse the hell out of all of us.
Seven one three two one two five seven hoey, listen up,
cause the boys have been so peeler. Wasn't that tumman?
Speaker 10 (01:11:06):
Yo?
Speaker 1 (01:11:06):
They got a gut feeler. This is their gut feeling
on the Matt Thomas Show. It's actually your gut feeling now.
Seven one three two one two five seven ninety seven
one three two one two five seven nine zero Brian
and The Matt Thomas Show. With Ross Brian. Good morning,
morn fella.
Speaker 3 (01:11:24):
Tell y'all doing today very well?
Speaker 1 (01:11:25):
Thank you for calling.
Speaker 3 (01:11:27):
All right, Well, I've got a couple of things. Shre
I'm missed on Kyle Busch at the race last week.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Well we all did, don't worry.
Speaker 3 (01:11:36):
Well, that's okay.
Speaker 14 (01:11:38):
They're going to Mexico City and that's gonna be a
road course and uh, I'm gonna go with Shane ve Genzbergen.
Speaker 3 (01:11:44):
Or Chase Elliott to win that one.
Speaker 14 (01:11:47):
And then with the Texans, I will say this season
they're gonna go twelve and five and at least.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
Make the AFC Championship.
Speaker 1 (01:11:56):
Twelve and five. Twelve and five gets in an AFC Championship, Matt,
your thoughts on the Texans not happening? We got a bet, right,
I don't know. Was it lunch? Yeah? Uh, fast cast
cats fast can Del's.
Speaker 3 (01:12:15):
I said they will go to the championship. I didn't
say they would win it. I said they'd make it
to the championship.
Speaker 1 (01:12:20):
That's good. That's better than they've ever done.
Speaker 3 (01:12:23):
I got faith though them.
Speaker 1 (01:12:25):
Well good. I mean you're supposed to, if you're a fan,
you're supposed to have good faith in the team. You
if you're a fan of a team, you want to
get out there and you want to see your team
good as far as it can. Uh and and get
and reach heights had never been there before and that
would be a new height for them.
Speaker 14 (01:12:40):
And one last long the Strows will go seven and
three in their next ten.
Speaker 1 (01:12:45):
Look at that. We gotta go. We gotta hold this
for two weeks. Thanks for the phone call. We appreciate it, Brian.
Seven and three. What are the next ten games of
the local nine look like? Let's take a look here.
I didn't I didn't do this. Okay, we get three
with the right Uh the week is still have the
weakest schedule remaining in baseball. Then they've got three with
Minnesota and then after that it's uh four with the A's.
(01:13:06):
They go seven to three with that, right, I think?
So be nice. The bats will show up a little bit,
help some of this pitching, so your man Ryan Guster
can go deeper in game little run support, Oh he's got.
They could score ten runs and he might still have
an issue going deeper in games. What your hatred for?
Speaker 3 (01:13:23):
Ryan?
Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
It's unprofessional? So what would you call it if you're
not hating? Yeah, exactly realistic. What do you mean, that's
what they all, that's the manipulator. What you know what
you are? You start calling you the manipulator? Oh all right,
I'm gonna start calling you mister projection. You know what
I like about Jonathan He's reading through your bs like
I haven't reading through your BS for fifteen years. It
(01:13:45):
just took him talking about you. You have disdain for Gusto.
You don't You want to make sweet love to Jake Myers,
but you want to just throw Ryan Gusta to the curve.
He hasn't thrown five innings since he's come back in
the rotation. See, he's in a tough spot. Get the
guy I want. I wanted to throw six shut out tomorrow,
not tomorrow, Yeah, tomorrow. I just don't know that he's
going to I'll take six innings of two run ball
(01:14:09):
hashtag quality start. I would love that and be just
filing it. I want him to go throw no hitter.
I just don't know that it's gonna happen. I want
Lance mccullors to be healthy the rest of the year,
and we just don't know that it's gonna happen now.
But guess what, till further notice. He's out there, We're
all good. Yeah, and Ryan Gussell's till further notice. Remember
this rotation, let's go. So I'm cursing Lance mccullor's junior
(01:14:32):
for praising him and wanting good and then I'm a
hater for just being realistic about Ryan Gusto. Is that
what we're going with right now? You didn't say that
Jonathan did seven one three, two one two five seven
on eight? Eric, Oh, yeah, I got a quick one.
Oh we can cut off Eric first? Yeah? Hold yeah, Eric,
hold sorry, I mean come uh. Nick Chubb does not
(01:14:52):
finish the season on the Houston Texans active roster. Wait
a minute, why did you bury this so late and
in the game here? What do you mean that? That's
like a that's like a It's like a Marquee headline.
He will either be a released or be on ir
Do you know that Texans Twitter is going to hate you?
(01:15:17):
It's just a gut feeling. There are so many people
on Texans Twitter like this could be the most part
one two combination in the NFL. I heard the exact
same thing last year about Joe Mixon and Cam Akers.
Two major major knee surgeries. He's twenty nine years old.
(01:15:37):
A lot of tread on the tire. This is a
battle Red Ross talking here, talking to about just being realistic.
See no, no, no, no, no. You know what you know, if
you're a better Red, you're not realistic. I am a
fan battle Red just means I'm a fan Beller Red Ross.
I'm a fan of the Texans. I root for them.
I've given up on them. By the way. We as
a city, and you just give up on the Oilers
(01:16:00):
over there by, Like I think it's like wood Way
and Sage. There's a there's an Oilers Love You Blue.
It's like a little Transformer or whatever it is that's
painted with Oilers stuff. No no, dad, I haven't been here, Dad.
They're dead. Let's give up, folks, they're dead. People like
Jonathan Allen were born and have had a story d
one track careers and the team wasn't even here and
(01:16:22):
they've been the Titans the entire time. And the Titans
want to glom onto the Oiler's history so much. Just
let them, just let them just by the way. It's
not like the Oilers had some storied history where they
won rip it off the Super Bowls, year after year
after year. It was nothing but losing and disappointment. And
I don't understand why we continue to try to hold
(01:16:42):
on to it in twenty twenty five, I'm not when
they die, they died. If they died, they died, you
got you got? Are you sure? Because you're not gonna sure.
It's a gut feeling. You're not going to get a
credential if you're If you're telling, it's a gut feeling.
I just don't think it's gonna work out. If I'm
(01:17:03):
wrong and he rushes for it, You're not gonna get
a cookie from the team. Look happy flowers. I never
get any of that stuff anyways. It's fine. I have
I have not. I have not gotten any of that
anywhere you like. Would you like to get something? No,
I don't. I'll get you some stuff. I don't care.
I'll sudden message of pr Okay, you see what you
can do with I thought it was an opening. There's
(01:17:24):
an opening. Once you get that open, I'm good. Could
you don't. I don't have the skills. You you're pr
talking to people? Oh God, forget what you have no
chance in that. Let's uh, oh, here we go, all right,
without any further Ado with a lot of to do.
Eric on seven on a Hello.
Speaker 8 (01:17:44):
Eric, Hell, you guys irritated me there while I was
on hold when Ross said talking about people that want
the Oilers back, I happen to be in that club of.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Yeah, you've got problems letting things go. Eric, you want
Zach You think Zach Greenky is still going to be
a viable major league based all player. Clearly you have
things letting Eric trouble letting things go. Eric, I had
a question for you. What was the name of your
first girl friend, h Kimmy? What is she doing right now?
Speaker 8 (01:18:11):
I don't know, but I sure wish she'd come back.
Speaker 1 (01:18:13):
See here we go, I knew.
Speaker 3 (01:18:17):
Give me back.
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
Hey.
Speaker 8 (01:18:18):
I got a gut feeling though for you guys. I
believe the Rangers are going to be our opposition going
down the stretch here. I think they're gonna be the
ones that challenge us. And I'll tell you why. I
think they're going to go out and get a bat
or two to upgrade that lineup.
Speaker 1 (01:18:33):
I think they have a deeper.
Speaker 8 (01:18:34):
Farm system than us, and they have a much better manager.
And I want to point this out. It's a rumor
going around. I know because I started it that they
made is Zach Grinky sweet Steakes.
Speaker 1 (01:18:45):
They have a much better manager than who I'm not
respondingly the color kick American bay City. I mean, look,
the Bay City water is a little off. He's been
hit by a light pole. I mean he's been huffing. Yeah,
I mean he sniff's glue. I mean it is what
it is, ericon, bay City is. What do you think
Bay City is? I mean it is you know he yeah, yeah,
(01:19:15):
seven one three, two one two five, seven ninety Dwayne
and l Passo at seven ninety eleven fifty sixth Twayne,
what do you got?
Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Good morning, generous. First of all, my prediction is that
Jason Kidd from the Dallas Mavericks will be traded to
the New York Knicks for what reason.
Speaker 11 (01:19:34):
I do not know.
Speaker 1 (01:19:36):
They like him, apparently, you're yeah, that's not a crazy
prediction at all. I don't think.
Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
My question is on the nil. Will college sports in
every you know, men's and women's college sports be ruined
because of the money that's that's being given to them,
or will smaller colleges such as just say Utah State
(01:20:03):
will be able to dip into that cash? Or how's
it going to work? That's my question.
Speaker 4 (01:20:08):
Thank you, gentlemen, thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:20:10):
I don't know how this is going to affect the
group of five schools. I don't I don't know. I
don't think anybody anybody knows. Hmmm. Does Utah State have
twenty million dollars to give to their athletes? Probably not.
They're gonna be Yeah, when state ever been relevant anything?
Speaker 3 (01:20:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (01:20:30):
Last time.
Speaker 4 (01:20:31):
No.
Speaker 1 (01:20:31):
This is what this will do ultimately, is it will
keep the power for schools and not even every one
of them. The good the best of the power force
alive and thriving, and the rest of them will be
just kind of just hoping to get catch, you know, lightning.
It about all new powers can emerge with some financial
again gains, if like Texas Tech, Yeah, you have to
have rich alums. Thinking about it, if Texas Tech did
(01:20:51):
not have that dude that sold his oil and gasket.
But they are they a factor in this?
Speaker 8 (01:20:56):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:20:57):
Well when they have they ever been so? Now they
can be so good for them. It's one guy, It's
all it takes. Now you got a shot when you
had no shot before. Yeah, mess and Mu's got plenty
of money, They got plenty of people, free market. Let's
go all right, so get ready text tech and SMU.
I mean the powers and the Big twelve and the ACC.
(01:21:18):
You better start cutting them checks. Maddy. I'm not cutting
any checks. You're wearing a uh polo right now, A
couple probably two years old too. I need some fresh gear.
It's a little loose. You've been losing weight.
Speaker 5 (01:21:29):
Man.
Speaker 1 (01:21:29):
Let's quite a noon. Yes, let's go tape worm doing
a number on you. It's not tapeworm. I just crushed
three chicken fetoes.
Speaker 7 (01:21:35):
Stop it.
Speaker 1 (01:21:36):
I eleven fifty eight. The News at noon, we will
hear from CJ. We will hear from Demico. The News
at noon is next poll four on Sports Talk seven ninety.
It is time for us to give you the big
headlines of the day. We present to you the News
at Noon and the handle Little Responsibilities. La Marv Alberts
(01:22:02):
of Houston sports journalist hols. It's Ross Filleral little Texans
going floor the win.
Speaker 7 (01:22:11):
C J.
Speaker 1 (01:22:11):
Stroud with some spectacular throws in many camp today. We've
gone from Otah to mini camp. Eventually we'll go to
camp eventually preseason and then the season. The clock is ticking, Matt,
but could d see that c. J. Stroud was out
throwing bombs at Texans practice. Afterwards, he said, I'm really okay.
(01:22:31):
Also sounds like he's not too happy with the media
talking so much about him and his shoulder.
Speaker 15 (01:22:37):
All right, I was already for you know, before you
guys seen me out there pretty normally. I think y'all
don't have much to talk about, so y'all just everything
is blown out in all season. So I'm fine, man,
I'm really okay.
Speaker 1 (01:22:49):
With got all that fake media, with that awkwardmedia laught,
y'all don't have really have much to talk about. I'm fine,
nothing to worry about, good, says J Straup. Can I
throw a little conspiracy in there? I love when sports
are Okay, let me just kind of play this and
(01:23:09):
and I'm actually reacting this because we we just heard
it from from Adam Wexer. A couple of things here,
all right, I was.
Speaker 15 (01:23:18):
Already you know before you guys me out there pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:23:21):
Normally, pretty normally. Why didn't he say normally? Why did
he say? Why did he go with and throw a
little pretty normally? How you doing matter? I'm pretty good
because he had general soreness. Okay, Well, help me out
with a conspiracy theory. No, I just wouldn't he just
say I'm throwing normally everything. He's not throwing normally. Okay,
he's throwing pretty normally. Okay, but it's okay. Yeah, I
(01:23:43):
think if you have general soreness, you're not throwing one
hundred percent. Okay.
Speaker 15 (01:23:46):
Don't have much to talk about, so I'm just.
Speaker 1 (01:23:51):
Are you okay? No, I'm not okay? Chefing here? I
don't know. Well, I mean, let me tell you some
This radio show doesn't do twenty four hours of one team.
So I'm okay, you know are you sure you're okay?
I'm great?
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
You know?
Speaker 1 (01:24:05):
Nothing to talk about? Jay? Why don't you stay up
right and throw some touchdown passes on those some ants
and we'll be all right. Hey, no ironts he's ready
for a bounce back season. Good, No, I nothing to
talk about? Well, you know what? Then you know what?
Then don't invite the media. We'll see how much fun
you get. By the way, your owners want a new stadium,
so be nice. You got a bunch of fluff media
(01:24:26):
down there gonna have you interesting who you're mad at?
You're a man, and everybody I met at the Texans yeah,
you're met at the media that's down there. Yes, yes,
and yes, because the people will keep texting me stuff.
Stop texting me. Why don't you block them? No, these
are my friends that are doing that. They know they
It aggravates me, all right, Tomko Ryance, you so upset
(01:24:48):
with the media. There you go. No one knows more
about my players than me, says Demiko Rians.
Speaker 16 (01:24:54):
You're not really a worry about the outside opinions or
other people. Nobody knows the informason about our employe for
the meat. So I'm gonna make sure I always do
let's say the best less a.
Speaker 1 (01:25:05):
Lot of players first and foremost that they're.
Speaker 16 (01:25:07):
Held they will is That's always in the forefront of
my mind.
Speaker 3 (01:25:09):
And so that's why the decision was made about CJ.
Speaker 1 (01:25:13):
I think you guys saw him out throwing the day.
Speaker 3 (01:25:15):
Think he looked pretty.
Speaker 1 (01:25:16):
Hard to be saw him throwing today. Looks fine. Good
holding them out. They're just proceeding with caution, and that's okay.
Nothing to worry about much ado about nothing. Look, it's
the middle of summer. Gotta talk about something, Matt. I
guess yeah, we just talked. We're not a we can't
(01:25:37):
get anything on the NBA Aftras are off Texans. You
get the center stage, go for it and enjoy it.
We'll get to the Astros in just a moment, but
one more note on the Houston Texans. Of course, Nick
Chubb in practice for the Texans wearing jersey number twenty one.
Here's what Ian Rappaport had to say about Nick Chubb
joining the Texans.
Speaker 3 (01:25:58):
First, I like this one.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Yeah, I hate to see how we'll see how much
he has left. If he's close to what he was.
I mean, look looked.
Speaker 9 (01:26:07):
If he's close to what he was, him and Joe
Mixon are going to be a insanely physical duo.
Speaker 1 (01:26:13):
If he's close to what he was. Matt but just
three point three yards per carry last year, as we mentioned,
I guess we'll wait and see. At the minimum it
cost the Texans just two point five million dollars with
its SyncE as it could be worth up to five
best pennies and if it's worth and guess what if
he gets five million dollars, that means that was a
steal of his acquisition. Low risk, high reward for the
(01:26:35):
Houston Texans. Let's move on the Houston Astros with the
day off yesterday, settling in for a three game set
against the Chicago White Sox. Lance mccullors junior back on
the hill today, Matt, and we'll have Joe A spotted
to talk about coming up at twelve thirty. Astros find
themselves three games in front now of the diamond of
the Mariners because the d Backs walked off slam them
(01:26:58):
ms last night eight to four. Hm hmm. That's a shame.
Mariners came all the way back in the ninth inning
after I believe the Diamondbacks closer got hurt or something
like that. That's what he was saying on Twitter. Like
I said, I saw one out and I was like, Eh,
this thing's over, and I was going to bed anyways,
And then have you went to sleep? One? I am,
I went to I got to bed. I didn't man
(01:27:19):
fell asleep. Now going to bed and falling asleep or
two different things, as you know. Anyways, Matt, Pounthers Panthers,
The Pounthers pounce. Panthers pounce, yes on mistake prone Oilers
six to one route in Game number three. They're now
up two to one in the Stanley Cup Final. How
many minutes of three games of the Stanley Cup Final.
(01:27:42):
Have you watch? You can't say finals, they get mad
at you. It's like when you say French Open, they
get mad. They want you to say rolling Garrows. Whose day?
The French? Guess what? They don't control me. It's like
the British get mad when you say British Open Finals. O,
how should I say? Hockey fans gonna come after you?
They know the Houston is fuming right now. They are
very mad at me. How many minutes of the Stanley
(01:28:02):
Cup final have you watched? Zero?
Speaker 4 (01:28:05):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:28:06):
I watched one minute of the French Open final? Did
you literally too? Literally? Last point? What'd you think of
the last point? Matt amazing? Okay, moving on to the
news at noon. There's no NBA Finals for a couple
of days, but the ratings are out. Oh they are
for game two. Game number two even lower than game
(01:28:32):
number one, which was the lowest since Nielsen began tracking
in nineteen eighty eight. Oh down twenty nine percent from
Game two last year of Mavericks and Celtics, the least
watched Game two of the finals since they heat Lakers
(01:28:52):
in the fall of twenty twenty two NBA bubble. That
was also the night the president was hospitalized due to
COVID nineteen. I forgot about that. Dunny T got the
COVID in twenty twenty. Or was he the president? No,
probably was. No, the election was twenty twenty, so he
was still president. Oh okay, right now he's back and
(01:29:14):
everything's going great all across the country. My prices are down.
My four one k's backup. I'm half for one k's
doing a long ride four ol one K doing really good.
Thank you who ever did responsible for that. The only
other Game two with a smaller audience in the Nielsen
people meter era, which would be eighty eight to present
was Nets Spurs on a Friday night in two thousand
and three. Nets and the Spurs. Oh three, oh boring
(01:29:37):
eighty seven eighty five was probably the final for you
are probably no, don't look it up. I don't want
to look it up. No, don't do it. Don't do it.
You want to recap that one? No, I'm looking it
up right now. Game three the final was what'd you say?
Eighty seven eighty five eighty four to seventy nine coorse.
(01:29:57):
It was worse than I thought it would be. And
that's your news at noon. Thank you. Very much. All right,
we have Roger, Caleb, and Chaff. We'll get to all three.
You've got to get to all three of you before
we get to Joe Spot at the bottom of the hour,
so I'll be ready for that. Wonderful We'll get to
those guys get to you as well. Seven one, three five, seven, Hunty,
Joe A spot is coming up in about twelve minutes
(01:30:19):
from now. We've got some really nice people that want
to talk some sports with us, and that's what we
want to do here on the show. So we're not
going to mess around and go right to the phones
and talk to Roger on seven. Unty Roger, thank you
for holding in.
Speaker 2 (01:30:29):
Good afternoon, Good afternoon, Matt Boss. Hey, Uh yeah, I'm
gonna do my gut feeling. I say, Ryan Gosta goes
for five no hit in and then uh behind some
stellar extraordinary defense and then uh he's exhausted at seventy
eight pitches and then they pull him. They pull him
(01:30:50):
after he walks some basis loaded and uh Sean Duben hasn't.
Speaker 11 (01:30:53):
Going there and uh, uh save save the uh save
the it. He gives up one.
Speaker 1 (01:31:03):
You were not you know, you know, Roger, were not
running that down under any circumstances, Sean Dubin gets a
sacrifly no, no, we're not doing it, Roger. No, in
the interest of time. When I know you're talking, you
hear this, You hear this, Ryan Guster Hayter over the
let go baby, I'm in it. I don't think it's
gonna happen now Roger's been sniffing glue, but I hope
(01:31:26):
it happens. Roger sniffing glue. Hey d all right, thanks,
see you later on, Roger. I don't know if we
ever when we created gut feelings, we're ever going to
have a Ryan Gusto five no hit inning conversation. But
you know what, that's the that's the part of the
second with that. I don't hate Ryan Gusto, Matt. I
(01:31:49):
think that people knowice otherwise we five no hit innings,
I'm totally unhy Hey, nine no hit innings, I'm on
board with. He's got two more turns to the rotations,
thirteen days in a row coming up. Yeah, they have
to go to the six man, and that's okay. I'm okay.
If they did it the whole season, I would everybody fresh.
If you had the arms. Yeah, where's ragedy? What's the
(01:32:11):
latest on him? How are you doing? We can ask
I'm not asking about but I'll ask about you. You're
not We're not asking Joe about. You can ask about you.
I'm not asking. Okay, I told you I'm done with it.
What percent is he at? No, I'm not doing that either.
Don't don't put don't put it, Joe, can we get
you something like? We're not I'm not allowing Ross to
put joanah uncomfortable position there and that's not happening. Ask
(01:32:33):
him for an exact percentage? Jeff and friends? What at
twelve twenty one? Hi Jeff, Hey, how are you amazing? Hey?
Speaker 12 (01:32:44):
Awesome?
Speaker 7 (01:32:45):
Hey?
Speaker 9 (01:32:46):
I just wanted to see if anybody had checked their
Twitter handle for Antonio Brown lately.
Speaker 11 (01:32:52):
Have you guys seen what he's been posting.
Speaker 1 (01:32:55):
Yes, he is saying he's having sex with Gavin Newsom's wife.
I haven't muted, so no, oh you need to check
it out. Rossa Trant, thank you very much, Ross Tron,
thank you, Jeff, jeff A miss Prime. My feeling is
that Antonio doesn't do it. No, he's got a social
(01:33:17):
media manager and like fake news has been put out
on there before, so I muted it. It's funny. I
don't need it. I mean it's oh, I don't follow it.
But when it shows up, I what was the one
the other day? That the one I put a few
few weeks ago that was the all time burn? I
don't know. Now it's gonna bother me. I don't have
(01:33:38):
to look a look at my timeline, okay, because yeah,
he had something a few weeks ago that was incredibly
an incredible burn that was like Antonio wouldn't have thought
of this himself. Let's go to his brain is scrambled
San Antonio Caleb on the Matt Thomas Show. Ross Caleb,
good afternoon, and thank you for holding what's up?
Speaker 3 (01:33:56):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:33:57):
Thank you so much?
Speaker 4 (01:33:58):
Uh?
Speaker 13 (01:33:59):
I wanted to talk talk more about the rumor I
guess about Zach Greenkey going to Texas trip or what
to play?
Speaker 1 (01:34:10):
Of course?
Speaker 3 (01:34:11):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (01:34:12):
And Dodgy play for the Rangers.
Speaker 13 (01:34:17):
Well, correct me if I'm wrong. I was looking through
stuff about the Texas Rangers. Are they the only organization
that does not host a Pride Night?
Speaker 1 (01:34:26):
I think that's accurate in baseball for sure.
Speaker 13 (01:34:31):
Okay, you know, I still don't understand why he's not
an astro. You know Joe is spotty. You're about to
talk to him. I mean he's got to go, just
like Kamala Hare.
Speaker 1 (01:34:42):
Oh jeez, if you call Caleb, we have your phone number.
Do we want to call you? Let me Mamy screenshot
that real quick? Hold up? Oh it went away. Dang.
Kamala Harris is not in office anywhere. No, she's not, okay,
I mean she may run again in three and a
half year. I got no comment on that. Let me
(01:35:04):
just tell you save your money. We're gonna be significantly
funnier than any of you are. We've told you this
for fifteen years. Zach Grinky is going to I don't
understand notion. Look, he's the guy. Caleb is doing math.
I mean it isn't with Eric in Bay City. Yeah,
although one was in San Antonio. Yeah, we don't even
(01:35:26):
know if they're in San Antonio. That's true. Let's talk
to Charles on this note. On that note. Yeah, this
segment is going down the Two Bears really quick. Hello Charles, Hey, Hi,
y'all do it fair?
Speaker 7 (01:35:41):
I want me to forget about the Toilers, but I
won't do it. Not gonna do it. I'm just over
fan and we'll never forget about him. And I'm never
gonna forget about Geen Peterson of the Rockets, when the
Rockets had a real announcer, and how sweet it.
Speaker 1 (01:35:56):
Is and none of this nothing but a nylon.
Speaker 3 (01:36:00):
Okay, that's it.
Speaker 1 (01:36:01):
By You're a douchebag. God this what the hell? You
know what, Matt, Matt, you do a great job on
the Rockets. I don't. Charles sucks. I suck well. Charles's
old ass is still hanging on to the oilers. How
(01:36:23):
many super Bowls and the oilers bring you? Charles, Charles,
You're a douche, one hundred percent douche. And you know what,
if you have a heart attack tomorrow, I won't cry
over it. He gets struck by lightning. Oh wow, Oh man,
what a segment. This is what is what is happening
(01:36:46):
right now? This is gonna get us some serious honors
for Marconi Award winning Station of the Year. Here's what
I'm gonna do. I'm gonna start. I've decided i'm gonna
start when you guys call. I'm gonna start photoshop, not photoshop,
screenshotting your phone numbers. So I'm gonna call you guys
after the show, because if you call my show and
(01:37:06):
deliver this, I'm gonna call you back. It seemed fair, Okay,
all right, it's just no, you've been warned because I'm
a I have a much my off air persona you
won't like, got a lot of free time. Yeah, so
Charles again, get in a car wreck? What uh I mean?
(01:37:34):
I don't. I'm personally my name is Ross. I'm not
wishing that Charles getting a car wreck, Charles, I hope
you stroke out. I mean love you. Blue was like
fifty years ago. Guys. Let me you know. I'm I
was a huge Orner fan. Yeah, we all were. But
what did they bring you? What are we clinging on to?
(01:37:56):
I'm not talking about you, Okay, okay, make sure what
is Charles clinging on too? Disappointing losses in AFC Championship games,
getting ran by the Bull, the Bills, seventy six year
old Joe Montana and Marcus Allen coming in here and
erasing the long oilers wind streak. What are you holding
(01:38:17):
on to? It's your team? I mean people, the Red
Sox didn't win a World Series for seventy five years,
and people held on to them. I mean, just you
hold on to move away, you hold on to what
you hold on to. By the way, shout out to
Sea Bass. Twenty three. Antonio Brown's tweet about Shannon Sharp
and his doll You know they were doing those doalry creations.
(01:38:40):
Oh it's just a I thing. Yeah, those a those
like the fake doll things. That's what I'm That was
the burn. Okay, that was that was was awesome, all right?
U Joe A. Spott is coming up. We're gonna class
up this show like default. I don't think I have
to screen shot to Joe spot is a phone number?
Do I? I think he'll be he'll behave himself. You
(01:39:00):
think he's gonna crush you? No, and maybe Charles wasn't,
But that what's just so mean. That's why I can Charles.
If you get a straight bullet today, I feel terrible
about it. He's not in La. Now you get a

Right now, we'll spend a couple of quarter minutes with
our friend Biscuit on the Matt Thomas Show. Ross, Biscuit,
what's a good word, brother?
Speaker 3 (01:39:53):
Man?
Speaker 1 (01:39:54):
We all just get along? Oh no, you're kidding me.
I like it. We don't get along, Well, it's better
we paper.
Speaker 4 (01:40:01):
Come on, man, Coogler, Man, come on, man, you you
you you Coogler Man.
Speaker 1 (01:40:06):
You better than that man, just because I want him
to get shot, as you know, I want everything to
be terrible in his life.
Speaker 4 (01:40:15):
Man, come on, but let me say this man, my pacers,
your pa.
Speaker 1 (01:40:20):
Wait wait wait wait wait, bitute, you've been called us
all year long. You've never said the term your pacers
in your life. What are you talking about?
Speaker 4 (01:40:27):
Well, you know I'm from Indiana, so I gotta you know.
Speaker 1 (01:40:29):
Yeah, but you haven't dropped your pacers on my pacers
on us and this show in a year? What do
you just jump on? It's convenience? What's going on with you? You
know what I'm calling you out? I love it.
Speaker 4 (01:40:39):
You know I'm Lakers. You know I'm Lakers, but you
know I still pull for the home team.
Speaker 1 (01:40:44):
You know, it's funny. As soon as my Hawks start
getting some better draft picks will be much better off.
Speaker 4 (01:40:49):
Well you go, you get a long time to wait
a minute.
Speaker 1 (01:40:52):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (01:40:53):
Uh uh, I just I'm surprised when they caught off
their first game, man.
Speaker 10 (01:40:59):
But.
Speaker 4 (01:41:01):
I don't see it many unless Myles Turner.
Speaker 1 (01:41:06):
Did you have Minnesota beating Oklahoma City biscuit?
Speaker 4 (01:41:10):
No, I don't. Did I have no? I don't think so.
Speaker 9 (01:41:13):
No.
Speaker 8 (01:41:13):
I had.
Speaker 4 (01:41:13):
I thought Minnesota was gonna put up a better fight.
But uh, you know, what's the name a man even
shoulders colors? Man, he's not there yet. Man, His maturity
level is not it's not to the level that you
want your superstar to beat.
Speaker 1 (01:41:30):
But see, you know it's funny you say maturity level.
I think it's Oklahoma City's defense put the clamps on him.
I I don't think Anthony Edwards is not all of
a sudden gonna lise up. I think Anthony off the
court anti but that yeah, I mean I don't. But
even if that improved five years from now, that doesn't
necessarily mean he's going to become a better player. I mean,
(01:41:51):
he may conduct himself differently, but I don't think it's
gonna make him any different, especially what I say when.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
I say his maturity. Did he lose, it ain't no
big thing to him. He could care less if he
win and lose. You know, he want to win. But
you need your superstar man to give it all. And
you know, putting up four five shots in half and
you know, well, I just no man, you know, Mike
(01:42:17):
or Kobe or Bird or whoever you're king or whatever.
Them guys, man, they give it all one hundred. They
put it at all on the floor. And that's what
you see with that SGA. He's he's leading. You got
to have somebody to lead the charge up the hill, man,
and that's what the Rockets need. You need that guy
that's gonna leave the charge up the hill, whether the
bullets is flying or not, and then the rest will follow.
(01:42:39):
And that's the whole key.
Speaker 1 (01:42:40):
Yep, this guy got wrong. I got Joe Joe a
spot of thank you for the phone call. I appreciate that,
you know. I look, I'm I'm a huge Anthony Edwards fan.
I mean, I don't want him to do anything good
against Rockets, but there's a huge part of me that's
like that guy's gonna be thrown on the side. I
don't know if Maturey's gonna change him, because I think
he's just built that way. I think the Thunder were
just I think the Thunder just defended the hell out
(01:43:01):
of them, So they did. All right, let's spend ten
quenty minutes with our friend Joe spot. I enjoying another
Monday off. But I'll tell you what skip the Major
League schedule makers, and do you guys any favors. You
just finished a seventeen game stretch now I got thirteen
in a row. Hope that you enjoyed that off day yesterday.
Speaker 10 (01:43:17):
Yes, yes, we did, Yes, we did, you know, especially
after a nice road trip getting your chance here to
relax yesterday and get usself ready for thirteen game stretcher here.
Speaker 1 (01:43:33):
You know, Ross brother's up to me yesterday, and we'll
ask you if I gave you know, back when we
were growing now, actually before I was growing up. I
don't want to age myself too bad, Skip, but I
used to have a couple of scheduled double headers every year.
Would you like to see that to give yourself two
more off days or three more or do you want
to just kind of keep as is right now? I
like the way that we have it right now, just
(01:43:54):
because double headers can just cause some fatigue. It it's
a long day.
Speaker 10 (01:43:59):
You you know, you asking a lot of your players,
your pitching staff. You know, even right now, you know
we do everything in our power to get games in
when it rains. Yeah, just because of the toll doubleheaders
take on your on your team, on your staff. Usually
takes a couple of days for you to recover for
(01:44:20):
for eighteen innings. You know, it's not like you're going
to play one nine and one seven or two seven
inning games. No, you play in eighteen innings. That's that's
a long That's that's a long day.
Speaker 1 (01:44:28):
Hey, I was glad you guys got the game in
on Sunday. I know the result wasn't what you wanted,
but you had rain in Pittsburgh. How does a manager
of a baseball team kill three hours and twenty minutes.
Speaker 10 (01:44:39):
Well, there's a lot of work that, you know, that
you can do in those three hours. You know, going
to Cleveland gave me an opportunity just to go and
look over gott a report and and video and kind
of prepare myself for for the Cleveland series. Uh, since
we were going to get there really early hours in
(01:45:00):
the morning, so you know, I was able to sleep
in a little bit and did most of my work
doing that doing that range left.
Speaker 1 (01:45:07):
And it was a very good road tribute took two
out of three from Pittsburgh, two out of three from Cleveland.
I don't know, did you spend any time watching the
end of that Arizona Saddle game last night?
Speaker 9 (01:45:17):
You know what?
Speaker 10 (01:45:17):
I did watch Naylor walk off homer my off day
on try to, you know, spend it entire day, my
entire day with the family, devote my time to the girls,
try to stay away from watching any ballgames. But you know,
but but I do go and catch some highlights and
and just catch up to know what's going on there
on the league.
Speaker 1 (01:45:37):
Astro's manager Joe spot up with us here.
Speaker 8 (01:45:40):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:45:41):
We talk a lot about pitching and hitting and rightfully so,
But the defense has been really great for you guys
lately as well. How much is that a factor for
you when you're kind of figuring things out, putting lineups
together and just kind of figuring out how things fit defensively.
Speaker 10 (01:45:56):
Yeah, huge, something that we've done here really good for
the eight years that I've been here. You know, we
pitch and we play defense. I think that's kind of
like corner store in the foundation of our organization. We
have been blessed with some elite hitters and some really
good offenses, but I think what allows us to be
successful and put ourselves in in championship position has been
(01:46:22):
our defense and our pitching. So when I put lineups
together or when I'm walking through my strategy, want to
make sure that I keep defensive options on my bench.
And also when I'm playing certain when I'm certain pitchers
are on the mound, trying to have the best defense
behind them to try to prevent as many runs as
(01:46:44):
you can, or trying to gain as many outs as
we can.
Speaker 1 (01:46:47):
Lance for Colors Junior on the hill for you today
against the White Sox, back to back quality starts, how
are things been going with him day to day? And
and your confidence level ending him today good.
Speaker 10 (01:46:58):
Yeah, he's been, he's been. He's he's in a really
good spot in between starts. I think he's work has
been really good. Giving him some extra an extra day
has really helped him bounce back and recover. You know,
I think in doing the thirteen game stretch, we are
going to be tested one more time our resiliency when
(01:47:19):
he comes to our pitching, and I think we are.
We're in a really good spot here, trying to be
smarter at how we line these guys up, trying to
get these guys an extra day here and there, and
and hopefully it puts it in a position to have
a nice stretch here thirteen.
Speaker 1 (01:47:34):
In a row. I know that manage League Baseball dictates
you know how big your roster is when it comes
to pitchers and position players. Would you like a little
more flexibility with that? Because let's say that you were
a manager, Joe, that even with the off days, you
wanted to go with a six man rotation or et
enough guys to do so. Would you like to be
able to have an extra arm because you are making
that sacrifice and going with a six starter.
Speaker 10 (01:47:57):
You know what I think I'm open to having a
conversation about having, you know, carrying an extra an extra
an extra pitcher. I think in today's game, how you know,
we use our pitching and how this long stretch of
games and also you know, looking at the injuries on
on the pitching front, carrying an extra arm, I think
(01:48:18):
it would help. I think that'd be open to a
conversation on on that extent of things, and how can
we really help our our staff protect them and have
a little bit more of an extra arm that can
we could all we could deploy them and and protect
some of the guys we have since we're asking a
(01:48:40):
lot of these guys in today's game.
Speaker 1 (01:48:43):
Let's get to the offense a little bit.
Speaker 15 (01:48:44):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:48:45):
It was late April. I think you made the decision
to go with Jeremy the leadoff spot, and your PR
staff does a good job of giving us notes about
how he has been since in that top spot. Looking
back at it, do you go, my goodness, why didn't
we think about this earlier? Or a lot of it
is that you know what he handled the responsibility you
gave it to him, and he's made the most of it.
Speaker 10 (01:49:05):
Yeah, And I think I think that's the way I've
looked at it, I think he has really embraced the
role and he's done a really good job. I think
Cosey also in the three spottis hearing he's hitting over
three hundred, so I think the move has paid off
having pread it there in the middle getting on base also, uh,
you know, driving the ball the ballpark. I think he's
going to it has been a really good move. And
(01:49:27):
you know, we you know, we found ourselves in first place,
playing really good baseball, and I feel like our offense
still hasn't really you know, taken any I hadn't carried
that momentum that I've seen in the past. And once
he gets hot, I think it's going to be, you know,
one that we are going to ride on for for
a while. But Jeremy Panna has done a fabulous job.
(01:49:49):
The way he's hitting the ball, the energy that he brings,
the speed on the basis, the hustle, just he's been phenomenal.
Speaker 3 (01:49:57):
You know.
Speaker 1 (01:49:58):
I was mentioning to the audience yesterday day about the intangibles,
and look, when you play one sixty two, you've got
to score runs, you got to have good pitching, you
got a little bit of things. But the two things
that teams tend to forget about the costome division championships
or playoff position skip are defense and bullpen. And your
bullpen has been phenomenal. Your defense has been top shelf
(01:50:19):
for as many many years do you when you're on
the plane coming home, we're closing your eyes going to
better night going. Man, we have put together a team
that hasn't been at its best offensively, but I've got
two parts of my game that have been so solid
that it's kept us where we are.
Speaker 10 (01:50:34):
Right now, correct, and you know, and that's very important
for us to protect those our areas of strength while
we work on the areas that need to you know
that we need to get going like our offense, and
our offense has shown you know, strikes where you know,
for example, you know we have nineteen come from behind wins.
The only way you do, guys, you pitch, you play.
Speaker 1 (01:50:55):
Defense, keeps you in the game.
Speaker 10 (01:50:57):
And then here comes to two out runs, you know,
out to out runs and our resilience offense that we
never out of a ballgain. Right, So there is those qualities,
there's those elements of our of our offense that are there.
It's just finding consistency every day where we can not
have to lean on heavily on our bullpen just to
(01:51:18):
always trying.
Speaker 1 (01:51:19):
To keep us in the game. And it's just a
matter of time.
Speaker 10 (01:51:22):
But it's it's it's important for me to protect you know,
our defense and our bullpen and our rotation to continue
to give us quality starts, for us to continue to
you know, put ourselves in a position to play play deep.
Speaker 1 (01:51:35):
In October and the wrap up our conversation, you mentioned
the number of runs score with two outs. I was
looking at some stats. I think you're the only team
in the top five and like in the last two
months that have done as much as you've done with
two outs in winning baseball. So is it coincidental? I mean,
is the approach changing is a little bit of both.
Speaker 10 (01:51:54):
I think it's both. I think we you know, you
never you've got you have to for I always still
our teams, you have to force us to play twenty seven,
Like we're not going to stop playing until twenty seven
out of the game. Is it's it's done. You know,
we are going to find ways. It just takes one pitch,
it takes one walk, it takes you're putting the ball
in play and our opponents making a mistake. We got
(01:52:16):
to keep you know, pressure on defense, you know, by
stealing it base.
Speaker 4 (01:52:20):
By going first to third.
Speaker 1 (01:52:22):
That's how you.
Speaker 4 (01:52:23):
Stay in games.
Speaker 10 (01:52:24):
And we have done a really good job of that,
and we can stop doing that. We have kind of
shown a way of that going to be our style,
and my job is just to make sure that, hey,
we are going to be this type of team for
one sixty two. We can't stop and they've done a
really good job responding to that.
Speaker 1 (01:52:46):
Skip. Thanks for the visitors. Always will see the ballpark
later on this afternoon, and good luck tonight against the
White Sox. Ah Man, thank you, you got it this
Joe Spot a manager of your Houston Astros whe us
at the twelve forty six ross you the NFL we
want at one twenty Excited about that huge believe it
or not. It's all things about sly Stone. Yes you're okay, Yeah,
(01:53:08):
doing great. I got a funny little story about an
athletic director who just got fired. It's not a funny story,
but it's just kind of a weird story. Would you
like to hear it when we come back? Of course?
Seven one three two one two five, seven ninety. If
you want to join our conversation seven one three two
one two five seven ninety.
Speaker 3 (01:53:27):
Thank you.
Speaker 1 (01:53:28):
Lance. You'll be on the mound the Night Astros and
the Chicago White Sox on deck six o'clock. He'll be
hosted by a championship award winning reporter, producer, artist, friend
to all, friend of America, basically a saint of the
Houston Sports Beania Marketplace. Who is that? Maybe me, you're
(01:53:51):
a saint. You just told the guy to go get
in the car crash. Yeah, it's true, seem very saintly,
but he was saying he was doing, he said things
to me, So I want to make sure he's he's
got Bodley harm coming his wife. Yeah that's fine, you
can root for that, but also then you can't call
yourself a saint. Okay, you know what, I'm not a saint. Okay.
Speaker 3 (01:54:09):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (01:54:10):
Do you know who Angela Suggs is? Yeah, it's Terrell's cousin.
She assumed to be the former athletic director at Florida
A and M University. What happened, Well, she was arrested
yesterday hmmm, after she allegedly stole thousands of dollars from
her former job with a corporate credit card at corporate
credit Card will get you what happened? She is facing
(01:54:33):
several charges including felony, grand theft and felony scheme to defraud.
She was also charged with four counts of false claims
on travel vouchers, which are misdemeanors in a state of Florida.
She's flying a wacky key on the company dime. She
worked for something called the Florida Sports Commission. She worked
for there for seven years. Okay, she became the ad
at Florida A and M, where she most recently hired
(01:54:54):
Charlie Ward, the former Heisman Trophy winner and former long
term NBA players are head basketball coach something just a
former Rockets legend. Former Rockets legend officials in Tallahassee said
that sugg has used a corporate credit card for personal
use and stole more twenty four thousand dollars. She allegedly
made wire transfers, cash withdrawals, and personal purchases at a
(01:55:15):
casino during business trips. And investigation was launched last fall,
and an audit revealed that Suggs allegedly falsified travel vouchers
by filing the unauthorized charges as meals or claimed that
they were accidents accidents. She also repeatedly failed to comply
(01:55:37):
completely repay the Florida Sports Foundation for her personal expenses.
Come on, miss Suggs, Miss Suggs, come on, I would
think raws and and we will get to the Texans
and the Astros coming up at the top of the art.
But I would just think it's hard to embezzle these days. Right,
(01:55:59):
it is not impossible, but it's just becoming more and
more difficult. Yeah, fudging receipts and all that type of stuff.
I mean, you did it for years here, and I
got you in the right direction. I think I filed
like one expense report in sixteen years. Yeah, there's a
reason for that because the first one was refused and
said please make adjustments. Yeah, I don't want to hear
you know what. Never mind be nice? Could you should be?
(01:56:20):
I'm trying to leave a good example for h but yeah,
I mean twenty four thousand dollars. I mean, come on,
young lady or old lady. I don't know how old
she is, but I mean, straight up in bezel And
I'm surprised Florida A and M didn't figure out a
phone called the Florida Sports Commission. A, y'all lighting the wallet. Yeah,
(01:56:43):
we're twenty fourth. G's down. Who's in charge of the
woman that you want to hire as your athletic director?
Speaker 5 (01:56:50):
Oh?
Speaker 1 (01:56:51):
Angela turning yourself into the Tallahassee ooh, Leon County Authority.
How embarrassed do you do when you get caught red handed?
Speaker 5 (01:56:59):
Like?
Speaker 1 (01:57:00):
Has she released a statement yet? I believe, yes, I
have it here. It's I'm guilty. Sorry, Oh I thought
I say said to quote Shaggy. It wasn't me. That's
not with Shaggy, the one of the Mister Machine or
the one that sings, you know, the one that the
one that Chris Gordy loves, one that Gordy is a
hall of famer. We have one karaoke hall of famer,
and it's Chris Gordy. You know, we karaoke in the
(01:57:21):
Rockets road trips. Sometimes. He always bullies me into karaoke
with him. Why do you Why say, because come on, man,
you gotta sing, you gotta you gotta do. Yeah, he
has me do the straight part of the song and
then he does the Shaggy. Let me tell you about
what ross is Ross is that guy who will not
treat karaoke seriously, and he'll go up there and he'll
(01:57:45):
just bark the songs. That's not true. I mark what song.
I don't know what it was, but I've seen you
karaoke one time and I barked like a dog and
you were like, you said, you know what, instead of
making it like Jonathan when I karaoke, I'm seriou about it.
I like to go up there and sing the song.
I don't go up there to just yell at or
I like to really sing the song. What song? Have
(01:58:06):
you seen me doing karaokes? I don't know it was,
but it was somewhere where you was fake news media.
This is not No, it's not that's that's a Texans practice. No,
this was somewhere I saw you and you just were like,
instead of saying, you know, I'm gonna treat this seriously,
I'm just gonna just yell a bunch of lyrics that's
not accurate. Okay, that wasn't me yelling.
Speaker 2 (01:58:25):
Well.
Speaker 1 (01:58:25):
It was like, hey, I don't know the words. So
instead of treating it seriously, I'm just gonna make a mockery.
Are you let me ask you this. Are you a
karaoke mockerer? Answer the question a little bit. I'm not
barking stuff or whatever you're talking about. So you're answering
my question, do you like? Yeah? See you don't take
(01:58:46):
karaoke Hereio, that's the best I can sing. I can't sing.
Were you gonna go out there and screech?
Speaker 5 (01:58:51):
No?
Speaker 1 (01:58:51):
I want you to go out there and like, if
you what is your favorite song to sing? I don't
have one? Okay? Uh? I do internationals players anthem? I
do the Andre three thousand verse. Jonathan, you a karaoke guy?
You know a fun fact about me? I was varsity
choir in high school? You know what? Whoa you guys? Area?
Speaker 10 (01:59:09):
Do you know?
Speaker 1 (01:59:10):
Ironed the Equivua sixteen letter jackets in high school? The choir?
Speaker 8 (01:59:14):
The choir?
Speaker 1 (01:59:14):
Really? Yes, sir, Yeah, I had little.
Speaker 6 (01:59:17):
I got a little of the nineteen choir, and then
I had before I moved up been Keller. I was
varsity and I chose track instead.
Speaker 1 (01:59:22):
You know that's probably a smart idea, but yeah, I
love karaoke. I'm the guy. Go do what's your go to?
Go to?
Speaker 3 (01:59:31):
Mm?
Speaker 1 (01:59:32):
What's that song? Uh? What's that? Girl? Is love? Don't
do that. Minnie Riperton. There we go that song because
you'll be We just talked about that last week song.
Oh my god, what song is it? We'll get it.
I'm gonna get it. Here's my here's my problem. What
I'm talking about the I don't I don't think I
(01:59:53):
can sing a current song. So that's why it's tough
for me to go karaoke because everything I want to
sing is old. That's okay, man, No, it's not a
ok No, it's not okay. I'm I'm thinking about adding
wagon wheel to my repertoire. You should and a fast
car the Luke Bryan and or a Tracy Chapman version. Well,
(02:00:17):
you do your own version, aren't they? H No, I
mean on ones got a little bit more acoustic. They
both have acoustic guitar, a straight rip of the other.
I prefer the original. Yeah, I'm good with either one. Okay.
So if we ever go karaoke sometime in the next
few months, those are the two songs I want to
put out there. I like the quiet, understated, painful soul
(02:00:38):
of Tracy Chapman, and I do sing panel Man where
I was had Everybody got a free drink because of
my song. How great it was? Yeah, I heard the
dogs were barking. They were not barking. They everybody put
their big lighters up on their phones and sang with me.
And this is the eighty song, ya know it. I
like it by the barge. I'll sing that too. Oh
that's a good one. I would sing that. Okay, okay,
I think time for a break. Okay, all right, How
(02:00:58):
does c J. Stroud doing We'll find out. We'll answer
that question for you to start the final hour of
the Mount Thomas Show at Ross Believe it or not.
Today is coming up in fifty minutes of his All
Things about slid Stone rip seven one three two one
two five seven ninety seven one three two one two
five seven ninety All right, if you are a Texans fan,
(02:01:18):
terrific news for you. As your quarterback, the one that
will hopefully throw for five thousand yards forty touchdowns, rush
for three or four more, hopefully throw very few interceptions,
was back on the field today. Now, he was on
the field last week, but he didn't throw. The question
in Sports RV is did he throw today? Yes, he did, man,
(02:01:39):
And here's what he had to say about how he's
feeling after practice.
Speaker 15 (02:01:43):
All right, I was already for you know before you
guys seen me out there pretty normally. I just I
think y'all don't have much to talk about. So yeah,
just everything is blown out and as so I'm fine, man,
I'm really okay.
Speaker 1 (02:01:55):
Man, he's fine, He's really okay.
Speaker 4 (02:01:59):
Good.
Speaker 1 (02:01:59):
I'm glad, nothing to worry about. I'm sleep balling. The
Texans franchise quarterback is doing well. He does have a
good demeanor to him. I like, yeah, I just like
to listen to him. He's he's he's genuine. I think. Yes, Well,
we've covered a lot of because quarterbacks can be that
(02:02:21):
kind of political esque type person. Right, you don't got
to call Brakoswiler out like that. Well that's what I
was thinking of. Uh, but there have been others. I mean,
they're bross while they sound like a vacuum sean. I'll
say this, going back to the Orders War, Moon was
a politician. I'll take your word for it, which was
he just was great quarterback, Hall of Famer, but there
(02:02:42):
was there was some politicking to his I mean again,
when you're the face of the franchise, typically you have
to probably say I mean don't you think Tom Brady
acted like a politician for a lot of times? I
would say so, yes, But I mean doesn't now because
you act like a politician, dos I mean you can't
be a fantastic quarterback? Well, I mean C D. Shroud
will always cover for his guys, it's for sure. Yeah,
but have a thousand questions about his offensive line. Yeah, yeah,
(02:03:03):
and you're supposed to do that. That that comes the territory.
But I just he's he's an easy guy to root for.
I agree, and so thus I've got a root for him.
I do too. Battle at Ross says let's go, let's go,
and more importantly, he's doing okay. And again what he
has to understand is that, uh, when you open up media,
(02:03:25):
to our legitimate media, to practices, you're going to gonna
get asked questions, especially when you don't throw I mean
what I would what i'd throw back at c J.
I when you would necessarily me to do this is
you'd say, CJ, if you remember the media and your
star quarterback doesn't throwing you asked the questions, yes, it's
not and it wasn't out of line. Well that that's
the thing too, though, is that the Texans made this
a bigger story when when it first happened with c J.
(02:03:47):
Stroud and Dimiko Ryans comes out here and says, Oh,
everybody's on a different schedule, We're on a different schedule
and drags it out. Yeah, and then Aaron Wilson has
to do his digging, and then he comes out with
the shoulder thing, and then they finally admit it, and
then it becomes this thing and then about throwing today.
So while it would still have been an off season story,
it wouldn't have been as big as it was if
the Texans didn't try to just shuffle it to the
(02:04:08):
uh to the back burner or whatever, or shuffle it
away under the rug. So, but more importantly, the most
important thing is he's throwing. I didn't think he was
not throwing because he all of a sudden, had, you know,
rotator cuff surgery, it'd be it'd be hard. As Chris
Tims said, uh, I think on Pro Football Talk he says,
like it'd be if if CJ had a procedure you
(02:04:31):
you'd have a very hard time hiding that. It'd be
hard of disguise. Well, yeah, I believe he did say
specifically he did not have surgery. Yeah, so that's good news,
all right. Also today, did Demiko have a couple of
things to say?
Speaker 3 (02:04:43):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:04:44):
Yes, Demiko Ryans was also asked about CJ. Stroud. Basically
just goes on to say, yeah, I know what's best
for the players. I'm keeping them on this regiment and
c J Stroud was a part of it. And then
he talks about how he thought c J Stroud looked today.
Speaker 16 (02:04:59):
Not really worried about the outside of canyons and other people.
Nobody knows the information about our players board the peak,
so I'm gonna make sure I always do.
Speaker 3 (02:05:09):
Let's say the best interest.
Speaker 1 (02:05:10):
About employers first and foremost, that they're.
Speaker 16 (02:05:12):
Help the willc That's always in the fourth side of
my mind. So that's why the decision was made about
c J. I think you guys saw him out throwing
the day.
Speaker 3 (02:05:20):
I think he looked pretty.
Speaker 1 (02:05:21):
Hard to be so him throwing today he looked fine
to me, basically said as precautionary with CJ's trout. So
it's all good, yep, I gonna worry about and he
shouldn't throw tomorrow because he'd sent it today and that
they said no, no, I'm I'm predicting that. Okay, So
when he doesn't throw tomorrow, I'm not gonna wake out
about it.
Speaker 4 (02:05:40):
I didn't.
Speaker 1 (02:05:41):
I'm working out the first time. But it was I
would say not concerning, but it was you could put
an alarm on that when when your franchise guides him throw,
he does just Minichamp. Yeah, and hopefully you rest that
arm relaxed going on the vacation. See you late July.
Let's go all right. Astro started three games series tonight
against the Chicago White Sox six o'clock on deck Show
(02:06:03):
will have Lance mccullors throwing today. That is baseball start
number one. Baseball start number two is the Astros will
open up play with a three game lead because the
Arizona Diamondbacks walk off Salami against the Seattle Mariners eight
for the final score. The Diamondbacks go d Backs. Is there.
(02:06:28):
You're talk about nondescript franchises and yeah they have a
World Series, Yeah they got both. But yeah they were
like an eighty four win team in twenty three and
they didn't deserve to be. I mean, I mean right,
I mean, hey, the Astros may go to eighty four
or made you know, they may not be in that,
they may be in a similar situation. You're hopefully another
(02:06:51):
one that's just a franchise that I mean did there's
no rich tradition, there's Can you name five players? I
don't think you can of the all time or right
now all time? You probably can, but yeah, but even
all time, it's like Luis Gonzalez, you think I think
of him as an astro as well? Mark Gray, she
think him as a cub? Yeah, John Maryland Red Sox
(02:07:14):
and Mariners.
Speaker 3 (02:07:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (02:07:16):
Uh. Who's the greatest diamondback that we think of as
just a diamondback? Probably you can't think of it if
to go look at their all times? Corbyn Carroll, who's there?
Speaker 8 (02:07:29):
Now?
Speaker 1 (02:07:31):
Who's the greatest diamondback?
Speaker 10 (02:07:32):
Dude?
Speaker 1 (02:07:33):
Does Phoenix Radio even do it? Who's the greatest diamondback
in the mall? Right now? Who's on the mound rush
more of Arizona Diamondbacks? I don't even know. And I
think we're losing audience because of this, so we're gonna
skip on. Oh, Paul gold Schmidt, Ah, that feels right,
but yeah, yeah, I'll go gold Schmidt. What Cotel Marte
(02:07:59):
is in their top five all time? War step, let's
stop over her head. That's rough, all right, that'll conclude
our Arizona Diamondback conversation. He's going to the Diamondbacks Hall
of Fame. Could tell Marte all right, now, one more thing.
If you have not heard, I guess congratulations or in
(02:08:22):
order to John Boy Media, No stop, I'm not congratulating
them who worked out a deal. This is we're not
kidding you. The same media group, the same Yankee fan
who believed that jose Al Tuve used a buzzer to
indicate pitches coming his way. The catalysts for their fame
was a made up conspiracy theory, completely made up conspiracy
(02:08:45):
that had no justification. So Major League Baseball is going
to reward them and the people that follow John Boy Media.
Major League Baseball has bought a minority interest in John
Boy Media. They are now collaborating with things. It is
an absolute and again and my philosophy is this is
(02:09:05):
Major League Baseball's weak attempt to try to get the young,
to try to get their sport younger. Will it work?
My guess is it won't hurt. When they say minority interest,
I could be ten percent. I have no idea, but
whatever it is job boy Media is getting a check
from Major League Baseball and Jim Crane's paying part of it. Oh,
(02:09:28):
you just made me sick. I'm just am. I not
let my lying to you, no whatever. I just muted
the word john boy on my Twitter. It's gonna work
for you, well for you. I try to mute all
polit a words. It doesn't work. Really, you gotta have
any with my mutied words. I got it all. I
(02:09:48):
got Democrat, Republican, Trump commell, I got it all muted.
You really? Yeah, my block it. I'm almost at ten
thousand black people. By the way, Wow, congraduate. We're gonna
throw a party. Yes, blocked ten thousand. Everybody's braking about
their Twitter account. My my authent my account is real.
Now I'm dropping like fives because all these people are
dropping on Twitter. But yeah, it's fine. We could have
(02:10:10):
a ten thousand blocked Twitter. I invite all those ten
thousand boxing party, and how many of them are real?
Like twelve? If that? How about this? Can we I
was think about this. Why do we do a party
of people that have that have blocked me? We could
we could do today's people. We can do today's honorary
person that's been blocked by man Thomas, the hater's number one.
(02:10:31):
Let's start with Jordan Schultz. Yeah, he hates me if
you knocked me. I never even tweeted at him because
I did the call of fraud. I mean, he is
a fraud. I upseid that Jordan Schultz doesn't follow you
or it blocks you. No, I don't care. Okay, all right,
up next, it's Ross's NFL rewind all right, some my
buddy Aaron's listening and it's like I just got in
a car herd. What you just said. Yeah, John Boy
(02:10:53):
Media is now owned in part by Major League Baseball
Ross and again, we have different audiences that are catching
the show at different times. We had to let that
sink in a little bit here. That is the bad
guys won. The bad guys won that Major League Baseball
(02:11:18):
thought that it would be worthy of getting there, and
John Boy just tweeted out two hours ago. MLB trusts
us to continue creating content exactly the way we have been,
so nothing's gonna change. Just excited to be able to
do more. Now you know what you're gonna do. You're
gonna be able to just create stuff, whether it's true
or not. You dragged jose Al Tube through the mud
(02:11:39):
still to this day, years after it happened. Years no apology,
no apology, no we goofed up, and you get to
have a Major League Baseball cut you a check. If
I'm Jim Crane, I'm calling Rob Manford and saying, Rob,
you're beginning twenty nine checks. You ain't getting one from me.
Why don't you last the Yankees for double or triple
(02:12:00):
the amoun because the're the ones that gained enough off
of this. I mean, come on, this guy, John underscore
garon nine, John Boy led the Astros buzzer conspiracy theory
because a Reddit user who claimed to be a Beltron's
(02:12:22):
nieces ex boyfriend's Abu Abula Abila Abila had a dream
about it. Now MLB partners with them, you'll never find
me feeling bad for what the Astros did. We were scapegoated.
The agreement, by the way, for John Boy and MLB
will allow John Boy Media access to league and team
ip in electro property, merch and sport sport sponsorship collaborations,
(02:12:47):
and having a presence for some of its content on
MLB platforms, i e. If the Astros are told by
Major League Baseball to put Cam Smith on a John
Boy podcast. They'll do it, I don't think so, hopefully not.
They got to be able to fight at that at
some point. So let's do this. Let's let's look more
(02:13:08):
macro on this. If Rob Manford is told by his
marketing focus group, you're too old, and Baseball has fought
this forever, they fought this in the nineteen seventies, eighties
and ninety I mean, I think they do a pretty
good job though with with media, and I think they
market themselves better than say the NBA. How does Major
(02:13:32):
League Baseball market to eighteen year olds? MLB the show?
Speaker 3 (02:13:36):
That's it?
Speaker 1 (02:13:37):
Way? Yeah, I mean I don't think you can just
market to a video game now. It can help, especially
the game is cool. I'm sure there's other ways. I mean,
I don't know what I don't. I'm not concing that
an eighteen year old is concerned. I would have to
disagree with you. If Mike Trout walked into a restaurant, well,
let's let's go show, hey would be yes. If Juan
(02:13:58):
Soto walked into a sports bar, walked into a Big
City wings at Marquee right down the street from US, Yes,
how long would it take for somebody to recognize I
think five seconds? You really think so? I think so? Yes,
anybody would call it. Hey, he's nineteen years old. First
of all, he's not nineteen, he's only twenty now. Granted
(02:14:19):
he's physically looks like an athlete. So let's I don't know.
I feel like Major League Baseball doesn't know what to
do with its marketing plan. I don't. Yeah, I mean,
I know, I know who Aaron Judge is and what
he looks like. Show Tani, I mean Choey a Tony
doesn't speak a look of English and he's a major star. Okay,
(02:14:43):
but we're going to go ten deep. I don't know.
I think a question, give me the next eight most
recognizable unbelieved. I never said a number of ten, but
I think I'm going to say, but I can name
Timmy and be a players will be easily to recognize, Okay,
like Kevin Durant, Lebron James, who is not a christ Paul.
(02:15:07):
They're still NBA players. Yeah, and the guys I'm not
I mentioned to you are all guys that have been
around a while. I don't know. I think major League Baseball.
I think they've done a good job, Like I think,
uh no, maybe not a household name, but people are
aware of who Bobby wit Junior is. He plays in
Kansas City. They've did a good job. I feel like
of marketing him and Bobby Witt Junior do anything publicizing
Major League Baseball. Forget about TV commercial. I don't care
(02:15:30):
to say TV commercial. Well, what else? What's he gonna do?
Speaker 3 (02:15:33):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:15:33):
He could be on a boat. You could be on
a maccuarae cover. I mean when is man is Bobby
went Junior around the cover of S I I don't
get s. I so I don't have the answer to that. Yeah,
I don't know. I I think nobody gets. This is
a byproduct of MLB going. We've goofed. We don't do
enough to get the youngsters involved. And John boy does
John boyd It's credit has got a younger generation of
(02:15:54):
I mean, look, a fifty seven year old New York
Yankee fan doesn't know who John Boyers don't particularly care
a twenty seven year old does. Somebody's tweeting in Major
League Baseball. Put shoo Tony in Fortnite. That's the marketing
that's got the kids. Yeah, there you go put a
put a a computer module version of a of shoho
(02:16:16):
Tani m m all right, don't I just and now
and now you're doing that. Now you're gonna get rid
of ESPN eventually moving move more of your games to streaming.
This to me, well, they they drew a line in
the sand because they were upset that there wasn't enough
correct coverage affiliated program and their money, and their money
(02:16:37):
is also down to they're not getting anything close to
what SEC football is getting or the NBA. I just
this is a direct relation to we've got to get younger.
We believe the John Boy way of doing it, the
social media way of doing it, will be the best.
Damn damn if there's credibility to it, though, And so
(02:16:58):
I hope that you even you made the bat up
and enjoy lying in it.
Speaker 3 (02:17:03):
Now.
Speaker 1 (02:17:04):
John Boy's probably going, hey, wait a minute, should we
be known for just the JSAL tube? I don't think.
I mean, it's probably what else is John Boy. I
don't follow us. I don't know, breakdowns to certain things
that happened in baseball. And then there's content, but it's
also mostly Yankee slanted that I know. I don't consume
a whole lot of John Boy media. I'm gonna be honest, Okay.
(02:17:25):
I mean, though they put out shirts and they do
I don't know, do general baseball stuff. Yeah, it just
it just makes me sick. But the first time i'd
really heard of them and they became really famous was
with this whole Astros scandal. I'd be curious to know
(02:17:47):
how many numbers as far as followers, clicks and views
and all that type stuff. I mean, this would be
extremely difficult to tie down. But where how far their
reach expanded because of a completely made up conspiracy theory
tenfoil hat like out of nowhere that has been confirmed
by absolutely nobody with any semblance of credibility and dismissed
(02:18:12):
by guys like Jeff Passon and Rob Manford and Ken
Rosenthal and other people. Yeah, and that MLB has a
marketing dollars amount, right, they spend it, and they're investing
in this which is whatever, which is paid for by
thirty MLB owners. I'm being the one here in town
(02:18:32):
good for them. I mean, I wonder what joseal tuo
Bay's thought. Hose was not sending it, but I can
see Jose doesn't ever talk about these kind of things.
How would hose I think Josee tu Bay feels about
this today. Guy's been bowed for basically eight straight years
off of one media non media, one internet report, and
(02:18:53):
now major League Baseball is collaborating with that. People still
believe it's like happening. I'm seeing it right now today,
that people still believe this thing that is, like I said,
has been dismissed by everyone with any shred of credibility.
All right, let's play believe it or not. All things
about sly Stone may rest in peace tomorrow is allive
or dead. By the way, I'm gonna give you a
break tomorrow. I'm gonna work on during the Astros game. Really, okay,
(02:19:18):
unless something spectacular happens tomorrow or somebody really famous dies.
That's true. Seven one three two one two five seven ninety.
If you want to play believe it or not. Seven
one three two one two five seven ninety. All right, tomorrow.
I think Wednesday is my favorite day of the week.
(02:19:38):
We get uh a chance to talk with Brian Borga
Sevic of a Space City network when he comes in.
We get a chance to do shut your bomb ass
up in it. But it got time for that we
get an opportunity to uh get more Texans mini camp reports.
We'll have a chance to break down the Chicago White
(02:19:59):
Side Houston Nationals game like a mutta. Hopefully have some
positive highlights and a great song. Hopefully nobody will die
so we can do play alive or dead tomorrow and
believe it or not. Well, you could just put that
them to the list, but if you got it wrong,
it'll be really good bad and uh, you never know
what's gonna happen, maybe even a player guest tomorrow. You
never know. Okay, Astro's enjoying a three game lead over
(02:20:23):
the hated Seattle Mariners America, Like what second Mariners? Astros
have all these injuries and issues and their bats are
naively waking up, woken up. Christian Walker's been bad, young,
yourdea has been bad. Jr UN's been hurt and you
still can't take advantage. Yeah, you had a full one
(02:20:44):
lead or you were down for one, went to extra
innings on the road against Arizona with like eight thousand
people in the stadium stadium right, are there even eight
thousand Diamondback fans in Phoenix? I don't think so. That
feels like Whose country is it? That's not a cardinal country,
is it? I think I think it's a Sun's time.
If they're the very bad, if they're playing really well,
I mean, I think I'll take your word for it.
(02:21:07):
I have no idea. I've never been to Phoenix. Oh
you would love it anyway? Three two black, twenty degrees. Oh,
three to two black? Every go three two black jos.
All right, let's go. Actually five minutes left to go
on the show. What should we do? Weeet should Playmerica's
fastest growing sports radio game show. We simply called it
(02:21:29):
be Believe It or Not? And here's how it works.
You call seven one three two one two five seven
ninety seven one three two one two five seven ninety
today's edition to Believe It or Not? Is all things
about sly Stone. As long as here it just showed up.
I'll read just eatement about Sly Stavid's completely utterly accurate.
You'll say this believe it if the same as Ronie's
(02:21:51):
full of bunk come made up? You'll say this not
two believe it or not? In a ron all things
about Sly and perhaps his family Stone will when you
apprize what do you playing? Forward today Jonathan Appear.
Speaker 6 (02:22:02):
Tickets to see Heart on June seventeenth at Smart Financial
Center and sugar Land. Tickets are on sale now at
Smart financial Center dot net.
Speaker 1 (02:22:09):
All right, let's play Believe it or Not? Mike on seven? Auntie, Mike,
you ready to play Believe it or not? Mike? Are
you ready? Mike is not? Remike said, I'm going to
hang up because I don't want to go see Heart.
That's fine. I can respect that. Let's go to Ken
on Seveninty, Ken, You're ready to play Believe it or not?
Ken sly Stone nearly died of the measles and was
(02:22:33):
in the resulting pneumonia at the age of seven, but
eventually full of recovered. Believe it or not, that is
made up. I mean I would assume he fully of
recovered since he was seven years old and he went
on to have a successful career. Well, he never had
the disease. That's okay. Statement number two for the wind
sly Stone comes from my musical family, even recording his
first record, a gospel song with his brother and two sisters.
(02:22:56):
He was only thirteen years old at the time. Believe
it or not, that's correct. Congratulations nicely done. You're going
to see heart? Carl on seven ninety Carl, You're ready
to play? Believe it or not?
Speaker 11 (02:23:09):
Yeah?
Speaker 12 (02:23:10):
And I don't have my blinkers on today.
Speaker 1 (02:23:13):
Slid all right. Sly Stone was a heavy drug user
on tour, and he became famous for snorting copious amounts
of drugs in a violent storing. Excuse me, storing his
copious amounts of drugs in a violin case. Believe it
or not? I just say no, you should say believe it? Sorry.
(02:23:33):
Tourney Blaker's on next time Your Little Help?
Speaker 15 (02:23:36):
Uh?
Speaker 1 (02:23:37):
John on seven ninety John, what was your favorite part
of today's ten to two radio show?
Speaker 4 (02:23:42):
Hi?
Speaker 3 (02:23:43):
You're your questioning about the astros?
Speaker 1 (02:23:45):
Sly and the Family Stone had three number one hits
on the US Billboard charts. Believe it or not?
Speaker 3 (02:23:53):
Believe it?
Speaker 1 (02:23:53):
That is correct? Statement number two for the win. Sly
Stone was banned from the Soul Train for life and
nineteen teen seventy three after showing up on drugs for
his taping and getting an argument with security staff. Believe
it or not.
Speaker 2 (02:24:09):
Not?
Speaker 1 (02:24:09):
That is also correct. Congratulations, Kirk cursing Ross. What did
Don Cornelie say the Slidestone after his performance? See you later. No,
he said, I hope you have peace, love and so sorry.
I just had to do that.
Speaker 14 (02:24:29):
Uh.
Speaker 1 (02:24:30):
Matt On Seveninti, Matt, you're ready to play. Believe it
or not? Believe it slide the family Stone. We're inducted
into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in nineteen
ninety three and introduced by George Clinton. Believe it or
not not, that is a believe it's thank you for
playing though, appreciate it. Goodbye out bump bumping down. Sean
(02:24:51):
On SEVENINTI, John, You're ready to play Believe it or not.
While living in Los Angeles, Slidestone was often in the
same social circles Charles Manson, even getting in several disagreements
with him. Believe it or not not, that is a
believe it? Yikes? What is he doing with fighting with George?
With Charles Manson? And that's it. It was B plus.
(02:25:20):
I usually expect a from you, but I gotta be
B plus today. That's all good, All right, hey everybody.
Tomorrow we're on the air at ten o'clock until two,
where we will have again shut your bomb ass up.
Bryan Bogus, sevic Astros recap plus more from Texans training camp.
Up next, It's Wex, it's Clint, Knit's ty right here
on Sports Talk seven. I need talk to you for
Astros Baseball tonight at six
