Clemson Baseball ended the weekend series with Louisville on Saturday
because of Easter as Timber noted, the Atlantic Coast Conference
tries not to have matchups if possible, or at least
Clemson maybe tries not to have games and sporting events

(02:08):
going on on Easter Sunday. Clemson falling in the final
matchup in that series in extra innings. What a tight series.
It was eight to six to the final on Saturday,
and what a really you know, good ballgame. I mean,
Clemson got down six to four in extra innings and

(02:29):
at that point you're kind of thinking, I don't know,
it doesn't feel good when you're down two runs in
extra innings. Some fans had cleared out of the venue.
Maybe they had other plans. Maybe they thought that there
was no chance that Clemson would come back. And the
Tigers did come back and tie it to make it
six to six, and then Louisville would get two more

(02:51):
runs in the twelfth inning and that would be the
margin eight to six. But two one run victories for
Clemson in Game one, seven to six on Thursday and
then two to one on Friday. Drew Titsworth was phenomenal
with his first start for Clemson, pitching the Tigers to

(03:13):
a two to one victory, winning the series. Clempson is
still the first team in the Atlantic Coast Conference that
has not lost a series this season. Clemson, now with
the loss on Saturday, gonna be hard not to say
on Sunday, with the loss on Saturday, they are thirty
five and seven, they are thirteen to five in the

(03:33):
Atlantic Coast Conference. But Titsworth in that game on Friday,
had a career long outing, giving up just three hits
and no walks with three strikeouts. Lucas Malstead, who's been
spectacular for Clemson, got his fourteenth save of the year
back to back games with the save for Malstead in
this series. And I think, maybe more importantly something I

(03:57):
talked about on Friday, you know, finding that extra arm
in that weekend rotation, maybe this is Drew Titsworth six innings,
good performance in his first career start. Lot to like
a lot to trust there for the Clemson Tigers. Again,
it's just one game, but it was one of those

(04:22):
matchups where you go, Okay, that's kind of what this team.
And again that's a very good team, you know, depending
on where you look, certainly a top five program. Big
matchup coming up though against Georgia, that's gonna be a
huge matchup coming up tomorrow at Doug Kingsmore Stadium. But

(04:43):
as for Saturday's game, Tig Davis had a two run
homer in the twelfth inning. It was a bomb that
lifted Louisville to an eight six victory. That game probably
doesn't go to extra Inningso if it wasn't for cam Canerella,
not because of cam Canerella, who had a two run homer.

Speaker 3 (05:05):
On the No.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Two pitch in the first inning, but cam Canerella's antics
in the outfield. Cam Canerella looking like Michael Jordan up
against the wall making an incredible catch it, you know,
an incredible catch at the wall. Just an exciting ballplayer.
Hard not to like cam Canerella. It doesn't matter who

(05:28):
you root for. It doesn't it doesn't matter. You can
be you can be a game Cock fan. And the
fact of the matter is that when you get out
there and start watching college baseball, you're not gonna find
many guys who put off the same aura as the

(05:50):
kids like to say that cam Canerella does. It's infectious.
He just enjoys the game, and he's I think it's
safe to say he's easy to root for, he's easy
to pull for, and he just looks like he's having
a ton of fun out there. But Clemson wins the series.

(06:13):
Certainly a little backstep on Saturday, a little pre easter
lost for the Tigers, but all in all, again just
a tremendous start to the season and they continue to
roll on. Big matchup, as I said a few minutes ago,

(06:35):
coming up against the Georgia Bulldogs. Here's the audio from
Don Munson and that incredible catch that was made by
Cam Canerella.

Speaker 4 (06:50):
Probably thinking the same. Your pitchers have been able to
get out of some jams like that as well. You
gotta be pleased as King hits one a mile a.

Speaker 5 (06:57):
Hell my word, no, sir. He is so good.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
He can do things nobody else can do.

Speaker 4 (07:11):
And he gets such an awesome jump, reads it off
the bat so beautifully well, uses the terrace.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Times that perfectly catches it at.

Speaker 6 (07:24):
The peak of his jump.

Speaker 7 (07:27):
Player.

Speaker 4 (07:27):
I mean, he could have kissed the top of the
wall right there.

Speaker 2 (07:31):
And so all of that happens, by the way, with
Eric Backach on the microphone talking to William Qualkinbush. So
that was top of the fourth. Clemson was up to
one on Saturday and just a bomb hit out and

(07:52):
the beautiful thing about the catch is that it happens
right there at Jack Leggett's name and number on the
outfield wall, and the screenshots that came out of that
photo or of that play hang him in the louver.
Just a brilliant, brilliant play by Cam Canerella. And it's

(08:16):
probably fitting that this middle name's Glover. It's probably fitting
because that dude. As a matter of fact, they've got
it now. I just happened to click on his name
on the roster. They've actually got that clipped up on
his latest highlights. And Willim qualker bish is right, he
could have kissed the wall. His head's above the wall.

(08:40):
The Hartsville native, the junior six foot one hundred and
eighty five pounds, just a tremendous athlete, an incredible baseball player,
makes makes things happen. He's like a spark plug, just
whether it's you know, offensively on the path, whether it's

(09:02):
offensively you know at the plate, clutch hits, clutch, plays
in the field. I mean, the guy, he does it all.
He does it all. And so the Clemson Tiger baseball
team continues on their tour pace thirty five and seven

(09:26):
thirteen to five in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Will look
at the ACC standings in just a second. They'll face
Georgia at Doug Kingsmore Stadium at eight o'clock tomorrow night.
That matchup schedules for ESPN You then a weekend series
on the road in Raleigh against the wolf Pack. As
for the Atlantic Coast Conference, how did things shake out

(09:49):
across the board this weekend and where do things stand
in terms of the conference standings as we enter what
the final I think three final four series of the season.
They got twelve conference games remaining New York Clemson Tigers.
Currently based off of percentage victories, the top team in

(10:13):
the conference is Florida State at eleven and four overall
in the league, Clemson thirteen and five, Georgia Tech fourteen
and six, n C Status twelve and six, and then
North Carolina is thirteen and eight. So that's your top
five teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Duke is twelve

(10:36):
and nine in the league, Louisville ten and eight, Virginia
is nine and nine, and everybody else in the conference
under five hundred, with Wake and Virginia Tech both at
ten and eleven in the league. Miami is eight and nine,
Boston College nine and twelve Notre Dame. They've moved up
a little bit. They're now seven to fourteen, ahead of

(10:59):
Stamford who in fifteen, and Cal also six and fifteen,
and then pitt in last place in the league at
just five and thirteen in conference play, So the Clumps
of Tigers just percentage points behind the Florida State Seminoles.
And of course those two teams will face off coming

(11:19):
up in a couple of weekends. So that's where the
Clumps of Tigers sit. And by the way, that series
is on the road at Florida State. I believe the
Seminoles games this weekend were canceled because of the tragedy
that took place, the shooting that took place on Florida

(11:42):
State's campus last week. They had been scheduled to play
Virginia at home this past weekend, but the university canceled
all home sporting events. I believe away games still took
place for the Seminoles. I believe they'll return to action

(12:06):
on Wednesday. They at least have a game scheduled against
Stetson and then they go to Louisville next week. So
you know, certainly a tragedy that took place last week
down in Tallahassee, taking the lives of two individuals and
hospitalizing I believe five of the victims. The two individuals

(12:29):
that passed away were adults, not students on the campus.
I don't know about the other five, whether or not
they were students. I know at least one of them
was a student, Madison Askins. The two victims who passed
away Robert Morales, he was fifty seven. He was a

(12:49):
longtime employee at FSU's dining services department. And the other
individual was a forty five year old father of two
named Taru Chaba, who was I guess on campus working
in the dining hall as well, or was a vendor

(13:12):
possibly near the dining hall. I'm not exactly certain about that,
but Kari Sellers, who's from Denmark, I believe is representing
or at least I was speaking for the family in
a statement I saw on CBS News. So just a
tragic event that took place on Thursday there at Florida State,

(13:34):
halting all on campus activities and sporting events over the weekend.
Thus the Seminoles record still reflecting just fifteen conference games
being played while schools like Georgia Tech have now played
what twenty I believe Duke's played twenty one. I don't

(13:55):
know if those games will be made up between Virginia
and Florida State. I don't know that any determination on
that front has been made. But again, our thoughts and
prayers go out to the victims, those who passed away,
certainly their families, the other individuals who were also shot

(14:16):
during the incident on Florida State's campus as well. I
think at this point you're just thankful that more individuals
weren't killed in that event. A zero three four or
five zero zero eighty six text line phone line. Again,
you could be a part of the program anytime, any place,

(14:37):
anywhere on our website. That's Clemson's sports talk dot com.
All right, we heard a little bit you briefly heard
from Eric Backitch during that commentary with Williamqwalkin Bush the
back and forth during Camcannerella's home run saving snag on

(14:58):
sun Excuse me, see, I knew it. I knew what
happened on Saturday. Here are coach back Atch's postgame comments
after Clemson's two to one victory on Friday. After Drew
Titsworth had a tremendous performance on the bump.

Speaker 8 (15:13):
Yeah, pitching defense, some timely hits, but pitching in defense.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
Story of the game.

Speaker 8 (15:19):
Obviously, Drew Titsworth should get all the headlines for making
his first career start and going six scoreless against a
really good offensive team. And then TP Wentworth with a
great inning.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
Riek Garris, great.

Speaker 8 (15:31):
Inning, Lucas Mallsett doing his thing. But the defense that
we played I thought was championship caliber defense. And the
pitchers did a really good job of attacking the strike
zone and getting ahead and letting the defense play. So
that's a really good Louisville club. They've got a lot
of weapons, a lot of good pitchers. Their pitcher obviously

(15:52):
was doing a really good job of being down on
the zone mixing his pitches. Gave them a quality start
as well. So it was a total pitchers duel today.
And they made some highlight reel plays. A shortstop alone
as a human highlight reel himself, Alisa, but to see
him and Chewfo kind of going back and forth making
web gym after webjam. It was a pretty cool day

(16:13):
and awesome crowd, incredible crowd, a lot of energy. I
appreciate the crowd as always.

Speaker 3 (16:19):
I thought they were really into it.

Speaker 8 (16:21):
You know, when you play a game in about ninety minutes,
we're probably easy to be into it like that. So,
you know, glad we could give everybody a little bit
of their Saturday night back, and glad we were one.

Speaker 6 (16:32):
Run better again.

Speaker 8 (16:33):
But these these nail bier games also glad we have
played so many of them because we're comfortable in them,
but they're certainly not easy.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
I mean it was.

Speaker 9 (16:43):
It was definitely an experience I won't forget. I think
it's just the everyone around me gave me so much
confidence going into it. Definitely made me a lot more
comfortable I found. I heard about it earlier in the week,
and then last night is when coach Bellender texted me
and so and just go have fun, and that's exactly
what I was trying to. I think that was the

(17:04):
first time in a while that I'd been extended like that.
And then he pretty much told me today, just build
off of that and take the same mindset that you
did that. It's I mean, you just have all the
confidence you don't have to you don't really have to
worry when there's a hard hit ball so you just
know that there's seven guys behind you that are gonna
they're gonna make a play on it.

Speaker 2 (17:24):
That's Aaron Backache and Drew Titsworth following his performance on Friday.
It's still so hard not to not to get the
days right on this thing, all right. So then here's
backage on Sunday after Clemson's eight to six loss in

(17:44):
twelve innings. Really good ballgame though, against the Louisville Cardinals.

Speaker 8 (17:51):
Yeah, you know, tip of the captain Louisville.

Speaker 2 (17:54):
They outlasted us.

Speaker 8 (17:57):
Great team, and you know, we just you know, we
didn't Obviously, we had our chances, had the leadoff hitter
on almost almost felt like almost every inning, it was
almost every inning, eight of the first nine innings, maybe
even nine in the first ten, and just didn't, you know,
just didn't capitalize on our scoring opportunities. We've been really

(18:19):
good capitalizing on our scoring chances, and for whatever reason,
it was just a really really bad day of cashing
in when we had chances, and we had we had
tons of chances. So we have no one to blame
on ourselves. You know, when you let good teams hang
around like that, and they'll find a way to get

(18:40):
you in the end, and I and that's exactly what happened.
Certainly proud of our fight and tied it up and twice,
but never really got you know, never really really could
get either that bake it or too many you know,
just for whatever reason, you know, and it's one of
those ones. As a coach, you know, dissect that game

(19:01):
and should have bunted, shouldn't have vunted, should have still,
shouldn't a stall like you know, you're getting Monday money
in court, Monday morning quarterback. Every decision and you know,
one one decision could have changed the outcome of the game.
So we got a point the thumb because there was
a way to win that game. There was a path
to winning that game, and we just didn't find it,

(19:22):
which is unfortunate. We've been really good about finding ways
to win and today just didn't happen for us. So
you gotta put it behind us, enjoy Easter Sunday, and
get ready for Georgia, who's gonna be as good as
anyone we've seen all year on Tuesday.

Speaker 2 (19:37):
So they go eric back into after the win on
Friday and the loss on Saturday to gain you mentioned
that matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs coming up tomorrow. That
game's going to be on ESPN U and it's an
eight o'clock start, So under the lights at Doug Kingsmore
Stadium against the Dogs. All right, quick break, We'll update
you on some transfer portal notes when we return. Lawton, Swan.

(20:00):
They did the show The Shakespare south Land again off
the heels of Clemson, winning the series against Louisville two
games to one, two one run victories on Thursday and
Friday seven six two one. The Tigers fall eight six
and twelve innings on Saturday. They'll face the Bulldogs from
Georgia tomorrow ESPN U eight o'clock. Speaking the George to

(20:21):
the Bulldogs and the transfer portal. According to sources and
Max Olsen from ESPN reporting late yesterday evening that Georgia
picked up a trio or transfers, including the top linebacker
available in the spring transfer portal window. Army outside linebacker
Elo Medozie committed to the Bulldogs, along with Illinois running

(20:45):
back Josh McCrary McCrae excuse me, uh and Miami defensive
lineman Josh Horton all signed with the Bulldogs. According to
sources telling ESPN, Madzie, the linebacker from Army, was considered
the eighth best player in the spring transfer portal ratings,

(21:07):
had a breakout performance for the Black Knights last season
with a team high six and a half tackles, earning
third team All AAC honors. So that got me thinking
about this portal thing as we talk about what did

(21:28):
I what did I say? The number was some of
you you probably you guys probably remember the numbers better
than me, because you know a lot of times when
I'm crunching the numbers or going through it all, I'm
in the midst of about a million other things, my
mouth moving a thousand miles a minute. But we took

(21:50):
what sixty eight teams, and we multiplied that by one
hundred and five roster spots, and that gave us seven thousand,
one hundred and forty spots total. That's total people, seven thousand,
one hundred and forty total available spots in the top

(22:16):
levels of college football. And day one of the spring
transfer portal window opening. Remember I said a thousand kids
had their name in. That number is nearly tripled. And
maybe this is since the portal opened back in December.
But according to Olsen, more than two thousand, eight hundred
FBS scholarship players have entered the transfer portal this offseason.

(22:39):
There's only seven thousand spots available. Now, obviously, when two thousand,
eight hundred guys go in, whatever percentage of them that's
remember that's FBS, that's Football Bowl Subdivision, that's not Power
for AM I making sense, there's more than seven thousand spots.

(23:00):
Those are Power four spots, but there's a percentage of
those that are Power four spots. And so when they
come open, and again we're ballooning up to one hundred
and five scholarships, there may very well be some opportunities
for some guys because if I've got to walk on
that's currently not on scholarship, if I can bring in
a guy like Georgia did three guys put them on scholarship,

(23:23):
they're part of my one to h five and my
team's better, and I trim the fat of the guys
that aren't going to play. That's kind of the nature
of the way this system can work. But how many
guys don't end up with places that's the big question,
and that's never reported, that's never discussed or talked about

(23:44):
now Niko Iamaliava, quarterback from Tennessee, is considered the number
one player in the portal after he jumped in sixty six,
two hundred and twenty pounds retrit freshman quarterback. It's now
a deal. He is going to UCLA. Last week when
we talked about it, that was where it was perceived

(24:06):
that he was going to be. Nico, though, according to reports,
will take less than he was getting at Tennessee to
play with the Bruins. Now he'll be closer to the home.
Will he be there for more than a year? That's
a great question. That's a great question. The number two

(24:29):
raded player in the portal, according to Max Olsen at ESPN,
is David Bailey, who transferred from Stanford to Texas Tech.
He's a junior outside linebacker six three, two hundred and
fifty pounds. He entered the portal as soon as Stanford
fired their head coach, Troy Taylor late in March. Remember,

(24:50):
Taylor was not one of those firings that took place
at the end of the season. He was fired because
of two separate workplace investigations conducted during his tenure there.

(25:11):
The allegations were that he had been mistreating staff members,
and so Andrew Luck, general manager, announced the decision back
in March and that the program needed a reset. So
when that happened, David Bailey decided to jump in the portal.

(25:37):
Jade and Ott, running back at cal that I mentioned
last week who I really enjoyed talking with at the
ACC kickoff, he jumped into the portal and he's landed
at Oklahoma. Six foot, two hundred and five pound junior
running back. Really talented, and Brent Minables gets a steal

(26:01):
in my opinion, certainly has NFL talent. I don't think
there's any question about that. He is a really, really
solid running back. Based off the fact that he was
selected to go the ACC kickoff indicates to me that
he's a leader on the team, and I would imagine

(26:24):
that he'll pick that right up when he gets to Norman,
Oklahoma to play with Venables. Bo Atkinson is a defensive
end at North Carolina, also recently entered the portal. He
has not landed anywhere yet. Six foot six, two hundred
and sixty five pounds red shirt sophomore. It's interesting North

(26:45):
Carolina had a couple of guys under the portal and
remember all this kind of around the first real opportunity
for these guys to play under and be coached by
Bill Belichick. Olsen calls it a big loss for North
Carolina and could solidify himself as a future difference maker

(27:08):
the college football ranks. I think that that might not
be Olsen. That's Tom Lougan Bill's take on it. And
the fifth best player in the portal right now has
a destination Joe Cotton, offensive tackle from South Dakota landing
at Cincinnati, six foot seven, three hundred and fifteen pounder.
So that's a quick look at some of the guys
in the portal and the impact that's going to have

(27:30):
on the twenty twenty five college football campaign. Clemson's sports
tal Lawton Swan on a Monday, all right, so I
looked at the top twenty five transfers just to see,
you know, is there anybody from Clemson in the list? No,
of course not. But I did see this news over
the weekend and this has kind of turned into one

(27:55):
where I feel like, how is this How does this
guy still have eligibility? Former Clemson wait, wait, wait till
I say it now, Former Clemson wide receiver Dakari Collins.
I know, I don't get it. Man Like, if you
if you think about Trevor Lawrence's three year career at Clemson,

(28:18):
or for that matter, if you think of Traves Etn's
four year career at Clemson, it feels like it went
by in a blank. But then if I say to you,
how long does it feel like Dacari Collins has been
in college? Mostly you would probably say it feels like

(28:40):
he's on the seven year Swanee plane fourteen semesters, and
I'd agree it feels like he's been there forever. But
n C State former n C State wide receiver Dacari
Collins will transfer and he'll be in the Atlantic Coast

(29:00):
Conference again, third school in the ACC as he's transferring
to Louisville to Cary. Collins spent two seasons with the
wolf Pack. In his two years at NC State, he
had thirty eight receptions for five hundred and twenty six

(29:21):
yards and four touchdowns. The Tigers will travel to Louisville
on November the fourteenth to face off with the Cardinals
in a game that will be one for Clemson a
little bit of a get back game after losing to
Louisville A season ago. I saw some other people commenting,

(29:45):
you know, saying things like I have a tough time
with the word the graphic saying committed when you know
it's his third team.

Speaker 3 (29:59):
It is.

Speaker 2 (30:00):
It's a strange it's a strange time in the world
of college sports. But every once in a while, one
of those comes across the radar, comes across my social
media feed on Twitter, and I go, what in the
world to carry Collins going somewhere else? And never Really,

(30:23):
it's not like his numbers at NC State were breakout.
I doubt the Wolfpack fans were going, you know what,
I wish we had him back, you know what I mean? Anyway,
back to the world of college baseball for a minute.
You know, we typically do a little segment here about

(30:43):
some of the best things that we saw this weekend,
and I gotta be honest, I think one of the
best things I saw actually happened against the South Carolina
game Cock. Sorry, game Cox, It's really not about you
and the fact that you gave up a grand slam

(31:04):
in the first run of a game this weekend against
Old Miss to go down six to nothing in the
top of the first I know it's already been a
tough go of it for the game Cocks this year.
More on that in a minute. But old Missus catcher
kidnamed Austin Fowley hit a grand slam in the first

(31:26):
inning of their game at South Carolina on Saturday to
make it six nothing. But that's not what was cool.
What was cool about it is apparently his mom was
the person in the outfield. She's kind of it like

(31:46):
South Carolina has like a kind of like a patio
or whatever where people can stand, and so she's standing
out there and it bounces and mom fields the ball.
They don't know that on the game, you know, they
don't know it when it happens. But SEC Baseball put
together the clip over on social media.

Speaker 10 (32:10):
I was just gonna say, you gladly trade a run
for a DP, but instead it's gonna be a grand
salami take measures shot by Fawley, a grand slam.

Speaker 2 (32:23):
And they cut it there to indicate his mom caught
the balls pound in Carolina in the first it's six
to nothing, Mom catches, Well, I can't say catch, I
gotta use that term loosely. Mom retrieves the grand slam

(32:45):
in that matchup again, Remember that's a team where we
talked about it going into the weekend. Old miss smoke Job.
Clemson smoked him in the opening weekend for Clemson. But
the game Cocks got the best of the eleventh rate

(33:05):
Rebels three to two in game one on Thursday, seven
to two in game two on Saturday, no excuse me
on Friday, and then got beat twelve too and seven
innings got run out of the ballpark on Sunday. The
game Cocks are back on the diamond tomorrow at six

(33:26):
point thirty at Founders Park against North Florida and then
they have a weekend series coming up against Kentucky. Those
wins were big for the game cox because they'd be
looking at being just above five hundred. Had they not
won those two games, their record would be twenty one
and twenty. Instead, the game Cocks, now in year one

(33:49):
with Paul Minary twenty three and eighteen, doubled their conference
wins this weekend, now sitting at four and fourteen in
the SEC or the South Carolina game Cocks. But again,
what a cool moment for moms if you will everywhere

(34:10):
seeing that moment over on social media, play out eight
zero three four five zero zero eighty six again coming up.
In our number two, William Qwalkinbush joins the program, looking
forward to catching up with him when we get back,
and we talk about the current state of college football
quite a bit, and it really it really is at

(34:33):
this point, Lunacy, I hope we get back to good soon,
especially with this rev sharing model coming. I mentioned Tom
lougan Bill's name earlier. Lougan Bill was on the ACC
ACC Prime Time or whatever the show is called with
Mark Packer. I forget the name of the show. I'll
try to look during the break, but anyway, lougan Bill

(34:56):
gave an honest assessment on the transfer portal when it
opened to the number of guys that got in. Hear
what lougan Bill had to say when we get back
stay with us. Final segment of Battle number one On
a Monday afternoon, Mark Packer, hosts of ACC PM, ah
Hi not ACC Prime Swaddie ACCPM, was speaking with Tom

(35:22):
Luganbil the other day and Lougabill, former director of recruiting
at ESPN, still does you know an analyst job on
the sidelines, et cetera. But you know, pretty tuned into
the sport for sure, Lougan Bill was hanging out with
Mark Packer, and here's a portion of their exchange about

(35:44):
the transfer portal.

Speaker 11 (35:45):
This transfer portal thing has reached the point of absurdity.

Speaker 10 (35:48):
Uh.

Speaker 11 (35:49):
And I'm all for everybody getting paid again. I don't
want to beat thinking impacts being a hater not being
a hater.

Speaker 3 (35:55):
But man, we got to get.

Speaker 11 (35:56):
Some rules and regulations before we totally destroy college football.
So let's just imagine for a second that at the
end of every single NFL season, Patrick Mahomes decided in January,
I'm going to go out on the market and just
see who's.

Speaker 3 (36:12):
Going to pay me what.

Speaker 11 (36:13):
Then I'm going to go there. And then the next season,
after I do whatever I do, I'm going to put myself.

Speaker 6 (36:17):
Out of the market.

Speaker 3 (36:18):
Then I'm going to go there.

Speaker 11 (36:19):
If you did that in the National Football League, the
league would come crumbling down in less than a year.
That's exactly what we're doing right now in major college football.
And trust me, pack as you know, there is plenty
of blame to go around. You can blame the NCUBLEA,
you can blame the presidents, the ads, the coaches deserve
a ton of the blame, especially when it comes to
tampering because they're all involved in it, not all of them,

(36:42):
but a significant portion. And we dump this on the
lapse of every program with the most transformative legislation, maybe
in the last forty five years of the NC DOUBLEA,
with no blueprint of how to execute it, no way
of policing it, no way of governing it. This is
peer pay for play. This is not name, image and likeness.
It was never intended to be applied to the high

(37:04):
school level. And that's how we've gotten to this point.
You know, the Nico situation was inevitable. It was just
a matter of time. And let's not forget you've got
other guys. I'll give you another one, Micah Hudson, who's
not getting the same type of news cycle. He was
a top one hundred player in the country at wide receiver.
Texas Tech signs him last year. He plays his true

(37:25):
freshman year with the Red Raiders. Well, he's not the guy,
so he's going to pick up his ball and he's
going to go home. He then goes and he decides
he's going to transfer to Texas A and m That
lasts a couple of months. Well, now I'm going to
leave Texas A and m I'm not happy there. Well,
now he's facing the likelihood of dropping way down, losing
complete market value, potentially having the option of maybe walking

(37:47):
back on to Texas Tech and having to earn it
from the get go. Well, he's one of a number
of guys that we're seeing this happen. Nico just happens
to be the feature guy because of the story in
the back and what led to this. I'm hoping this
turns into a huge deterrent. And the other thing too,
here pack, I'm tired of hearing about representatives. None of

(38:08):
these guys are accredited. None of these guys have to
be certified like you do in the National Football League
or the NBA. They're not Many of them are not professionals.
You've got all these people in the ears of these
kids that have no business navigating this space. And then
you wonder why kids make poor decisions and do the
things that they do.

Speaker 2 (38:30):
And I want to stop that right there, because that's
the point I really wanted to get to a couple
of things. One I said last week, I think Lougan
Bill's point on this is very similar in that one
of the things that I think this situation with Nico
can be is a lesson about leverage for players you

(38:54):
don't have that type of leverage, and with situations where
players don't find destinations or get less money, like that's
the perfect scenario. I mean, the perfect scenario, as I've
always said, is the coaches just sort of and I
know there'd be some trouble for colluding, but just say
we're not doing that. We're not playing this game, and

(39:15):
we're not paying more than X for these kids. They're
getting an education. We're not paying any player more than
a million. We're just capping it. You know, that's just
gonna be our personal cap. But I know that can't happen.
And until there are rules and regulations in place, players
that jump into the portal to think they're gonna go
get more, if they start making less, guys will stop moving.

(39:37):
It will stabilize. So I think that's number one. Number
two is something I never never really talk about with
the portal, and it's not something I really think about
because I don't think the you know that word representation
or the agents or whatever is I don't think it's

(40:00):
something that's realistic to try to, you know, keep up with.
And I don't really have the interest in asking a
high school player because you can't ask the college guys.
But I don't I don't have any interest in asking
a college player, hey, you know, or a high school player, Hey,
who's your representative? Do you have a representative? Like that?

(40:22):
Just to me, that's gross, doesn't feel right. And so
I think that the fact that there are so many
people that are trying to play these kids, to make
money off of these kids and take a percentage of
their earnings is probably another real problem with the guys

(40:45):
that jump in and hopefully, hopefully some of that will
shore itself up with the changes that are coming with
college football. But I think their point is very valid that,
you know, pro sports could not survive this, in college sports,

(41:06):
I don't think can survive it. The problem that college
sports or the advantage I would say that college sports
as is that fans don't necessarily want to turn to
pro sports. They just don't want.

Speaker 3 (41:19):
To watch the pro sports.

Speaker 2 (41:22):
Pro sports, on the other hand, a lot of those
fans would be fine turning it off, and so if
they had the type of movement that we have at
the collegiate level right now, there'd be a lot less interest.
It's already a part of the problem. You know, people say, well,
I don't want to see all the great players go

(41:44):
to the Yankees, or I don't want to see players
leaving their team, like there was something great about Magic
being a Laker for his entire career or Larry Bird
being a Celtic his entire career. I saw posts on
social media and they were showing Keem Elijah Wan with
the Toronto Raptors, and I was like, I don't remember that,

(42:10):
and I'm kind of thankful that I don't. But he
did play with the Raptors for two seasons in two
thousand and one and two thousand and two. Quick Break,
We'll come back. Williamqualkabus joins us an hour to stay
with us.

Speaker 1 (42:24):
It's time for Clipson Sports Talk with Luwton Swan.

Speaker 2 (43:04):
It is our number two. That's drivetime right here on
the show The shakesare south Land, Clemson, Sports, tal Lo
and Swan hanging out with you on a Monday. William
Qualkinbush will join us in just a little bit. He
had some recording to do after his program, and of
course the show that shakespare Southland brought to you apart
by our good friends over at METS Plumbing seven three

(43:28):
two drip, drip, drip, drip. You know the jingles seven
three to two drip. That's Mets Plumbing, mets Plumbing dot com.
All right, William qualkabish around the ben interesting note out
of Tigertown. Today, we'll talk with Qualk about this. This

(43:50):
happened just a little bit ago, actually, just before the
program went on the air, some news about to Clemson
basketball players entering the transfer portal. Now you might be
thinking to yourself, swannye who's left? I mean, there was

(44:10):
a point where we dwindled this thing down, just a
couple of players on the roster, and you said something about, well,
maybe you know, a guy like Jayden Zachary, because he
had played, because he had played at a lower level,
might have a chance to pick up a fifth year
of eligibility. Well that's still not off the table, per se.

(44:38):
But Jaden Zachary did enter the transfer a portal today. Now,
does that mean Jaden Zachary's leaving Clemson? Not exactly. It
could mean that if granted the fifth year of eligibility,

(45:01):
he would return to Clemson. It could mean that if
granted a fifth year of eligibility, he could go somewhere
else and play. And so with that being said, Jade
and Zachary entered the transfer portal today. But that wasn't

(45:27):
the odd one. The stranger one was Ian Shefflin. Wait
a second, Swannie, what are you saying the chef is
cooking up an exit strategy. I don't know how else
to say it. Ian Shefflin is at this point in

(45:50):
time out of eligibility. That's just what it is. But
because the NCAA might bring a fifth year of eligibility
to the table, Jade and Zachary and Ian Shefflin have
both entered the portal with a chance that they could

(46:12):
play another season. But I want to make it abundantly clear,
it does not mean that they would not play a
fifth year at Clemson. But you have to put your
name in the portal before Friday. So one of the

(46:36):
stranger ones we've seen, for sure. Jeff Porzello tweeting out
Clemson's starters Ian Shefflin and Jayden and Zachary have entered
the transfer portal. Sources told ESPN. Both players played four
seasons of thirty plus games and have no eligibility remaining

(46:59):
but if a fifth year eligibility becomes a thing, they
are in the portal. It is a strange, strange day
and time in the world of college supports, because think
about this, if they do get and are granted a
fifth year of eligibility, I don't know what stops players

(47:21):
from saying, well, how about a sixth year of eligibility?
Like at this point, what is the rule? Like what
legally would the rule would the NCAA have to stand behind.
We're only giving a certain amount of eligibility. I don't know.

(47:48):
I mean, based off of what we've seen, I don't
know that they could win any lawsuit at this point.
And it's kind of ridiculous because you should be able
to have rules. You should be able to have rules
that courts would uphold and say, well, that's the rules,
that's the way this business operates. You've got four years,

(48:12):
five if you're granted, you know, a red shirt season
or whatever. But with players potentially challenging and getting into
the portal, with the NCAA getting an opportunity to vote
on this, maybe, just maybe, maybe these guys get a

(48:35):
chance to play again collegiately. Jayden Zachary no eligibility. His
is a little more questionable because he did play at
junior college, and we've seen some guys that played Juco
have that year not held against them. That would also
be good if that becomes a thing for Clemson transfer

(48:56):
wide receiver Tristan Smith, that would give him a couple
of more years I believe of college football. But either way,
strange things unfolding. Pete Nako's from All Three said he
was told by a source that Clemson is letting this

(49:17):
is the other part is letting Cheflin and Jade Zachary
enter the portal despite the players not having any eligibility
or remaining in case a lawsuit allows players five years
of eligibility. The school is letting them into the portal.

Speaker 5 (49:38):
What the world?

Speaker 2 (49:39):
What a weird world we currently live in. Speaking of
the transferred portal, it did hit the Midlands today as
former four star offensive lineman in state offensive lineman, highly
recruited offensive lineman Cam Pringle the portal. Pringle's a big kid.

(50:01):
I mean I saw him at Clemson when he was
there on a recruiting visit. Six', eight three hundred and
forty five, pounds four, star four excuse, me four star
prospect out of The charleston. Area trying to remember what

(50:22):
high school he went. TO i saw him play in
high School, Woodland Woodland High. School But pringle has entered the.
Portal he will have four years of eligibility. Remaining AND
i Know Clemson South carolina were in the. Mix i'm

(50:44):
trying to see who all else. Was i'm not saying
That clemson is gonna get back in the mix on
The campringle, train or that The tigers would ever go
back to the well from a kid who decided to go,
elsewhere but he committed To South carolina Over, Clemson florida And.
Georgia AND i DO i remember, him you, know being

(51:07):
on campus At, clemson being on the, sidelines and The
tigers really The tigers really liked. HIM i can tell you.
THAT i, mean his length and size is precisely What
Matt luke really. Likes so he was set to commit
On january twenty, second twenty twenty. Three, Georgia South, Carolina, Tennessee, Florida,

(51:33):
clemson AND Nc state are what seemed to be listed
on his. Graphic But pringle now in the, portal we'll
see where the six foot eight three hundred and thirty
five pounder ends up playing. Collegiately but without further, ado
we will jump into a conversation With William Qwalkin bush

(51:54):
here on A Monday, qult what's, up Budding, great.

Speaker 7 (52:00):
It's a pleasure to be with you as, always and Uh,
man we got a lot.

Speaker 6 (52:03):
To talk About bill like shoot be the off. Season
but this season does not have an all.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
Switcher, no it never, does especially with the portal which
closes On friday and won't open again Until. December so
if you're looking to jump, in jump in. Now William
qualkinbush On twitter At Qualt. Talk we'll Talk clemson baseball
in the next segment with You. Qualt BUT i was
just talking about the news that broke just about an
hour ago With Ian shefflin And Jayden. Zachary no eligibility

(52:29):
jumping into the. Portal what do you make of all of?

Speaker 7 (52:32):
This, well it's basically a preserve of a preservation effort
for their college. CAREERS i, mean this is as it
stands right. Now nobody's gonna sign these guys because they
don't have. Eligibility, now there is a court case that's
currently underway up In New Jersey it judge recently made
a ruling that suggests THEIR MADI a path to an

(52:53):
extra year of eligibility for guys who have played four
years of.

Speaker 6 (52:58):
College that would INCLUDE i And.

Speaker 7 (53:01):
Cheflain it would Include James, zachary it would Include Victor.

Speaker 6 (53:04):
Lockett this is to.

Speaker 7 (53:06):
Be, clear this is not the junior college route to The
Agle poper ruling That Jade. Zachary initially they were trying
to sort of, pursue AND i Think clinton did an
inquiry on that and found that it was not gonna.
HAPPEN i think they even officially appealed it to See
zachary can have another year based on a junior college, experience, Right.

Speaker 6 (53:24):
It turns out is not the.

Speaker 7 (53:25):
Case, so uh so this is. Different, now this is
based on the fact, that you, know there are some
that think that THE ncaa shouldn't be able to have
any hells ability rules because student athletes haven't been.

Speaker 6 (53:37):
Consulted there's been no collective, Bargaining, so uh.

Speaker 7 (53:41):
You got to Judge Who's you've got to judge who
sort of sort of ruling on. This it's unclear whether
this ruling would open it up fully or if it
would be, uh you, know if it wouldn't start next,
year we don't really have any idea on. That it's
gonna need to be uh pushed out a little and.
More it's gonna to be more of A i DON'T

(54:03):
i don't, know more like a more well rounded uh,
pronouncement so to, speak for just to actually have any
deep at. All but, SO i, mean you, know For
jamie to get Into, porum For champlin at the portal,
ventually just keeping options open at this point now isn't
a waste of, TIME i mean kind of because, uh
it's it's. Hard it's hard to say for What for two, Reasons,

(54:25):
Okay one is because it's hard to say that any
judge is gonna be, like, yep as of exactly this
moment right. Now any judge that knows what's going, on
knows that there's money already. Allocated these guys don't have,
spots so teams have already sort of adjusted their. Rosters
they promised money in a way that, says, uh these
these guys are gonna Be.

Speaker 6 (54:44):
These guys are gonna be.

Speaker 7 (54:45):
Gone it's hard to bring them back after they.

Speaker 6 (54:48):
You, know you already thought that they were.

Speaker 7 (54:49):
Gone that's number, one number, two and it sort of
goes more to the Point clinton has been in the portal, Swanning,
uh they don't need this sounds. Crazy they don't need
In shepplin right. Now they got a lot of fo
they got a lot of post. Players they don't Need Ian.
Sheplin you can make the argument that they do Need James.
Zachary but here's the other. Thing how much money is
out there in the. MARKETPLACE i, Mean i'm, thinking you,

(55:11):
KNOW Dj haggerty is a guy that a lot of
folks are after From. Memphis he has been publicly saying
that he wants four million.

Speaker 6 (55:21):
Dollars it's, funny who has four million?

Speaker 7 (55:24):
Dollars that money is out there unless you're just printing
money somehow you find.

Speaker 6 (55:28):
Two million under the couch.

Speaker 7 (55:29):
Cushions nobody has four million dollars right now to throw
it a singular, player because it's all been allocated to
players who are already in the. Portal there's nobody that's
waiting now to the end and, going, yeah we were
open and we get spent four million On haggarty or
Like siyakovich from cal or any of these other players
that are that are out there Stayakovich is actually was

(55:50):
recently linked To clemson in a, tweet AND i have
reason to believe That winston has reached out To haggarty
and To. Stayakovis So clemson's in the sweet stakes for
both of these. Guys but like the price tags are really.
High now you throw Jaydon zacharyen in the. Mix if
they're probably gonna have to bring their prices, down then
so is. He SO i don't know what the market
is for these guys because a lot of the money

(56:12):
that's out, there the big money that's out, there even
the big spenders that are going up to ten million,
dollars they've already got their.

Speaker 6 (56:18):
Ten million dollars.

Speaker 7 (56:18):
Roster so it's just interesting to see the.

Speaker 6 (56:21):
Timing of all of.

Speaker 7 (56:22):
This and then let's say that that it's, granted the
eligibility is, granted what kind of money is out there
for people that nobody thought were going to be available
in the first. PLACE i have my doubts that they're
going to be able to make this work in a very.

Speaker 6 (56:35):
Short amount of.

Speaker 2 (56:35):
Time just come back for the love of the game,
quality that's why we played, it, Right that's exactly.

Speaker 7 (56:40):
Right, SOBODY i, mean maybe they.

Speaker 6 (56:41):
Do maybe maybe these guys are coming back.

Speaker 7 (56:44):
And they playing for the love of it, again they playing pignificant. Discount,
PERSONALLY i think the money in that particular, case even
though for a lot of players the money's gonna be
better to come back to, SCHOOL i think in those
cases unless there are very particular circumstances where they've got
money set aside and just just swung a mist on
a bunch of. Guys, honestly Maybe i'm a losing team.

(57:05):
SOMEWHERE i feel like the money in the opportunity might
be better to go ahead and go.

Speaker 2 (57:08):
Pro so, Qualk let's just let's just Play devil's advocate
for a. Second say that the ruling ends up being,
yeah there's a fifth, year what's stopping the sixth year
or seventh? Year, like at what point do we draw the?
LINE i, mean you gotta have. Rules there's gotta be some.

Speaker 6 (57:25):
Rules, YES i totally agree with. That here's the.

Speaker 7 (57:29):
Problem i'm just gonna say some. Judge every Time i'm
gonna say the magic, Words i'm saying it Till i'm
blew in a. Fake did you collectively? Bargain and until
the answer is, yes all of these dictates from THE
ncaa on the shopping, block because what The Supreme court
told THE ncaa in no uncertain terms is that you

(57:53):
may not limit the ability of athletes to earn a
living based on their, name, image.

Speaker 6 (58:00):
And likeness if they can pursue their. Degree, swanee why.

Speaker 7 (58:04):
Are you telling an aleat he can pursue a degree
in a in a, university but he cannot pursue a.
Living it seems to go against The Supreme court, NOW
i would point, out and coaches have told me this
in a number of. Sports at some point you just
outgrow college, athletics like you can't really relate to the
eighteen year old is babtine. Dynamics is probably good for

(58:26):
college athletics to have limitations on in this that eligibility.
Restriction the problem, is, though that from an employment, standpoint
And i'm using himployment very carefully. There THE ncaa has
been told by The court you cannot restrict the player's
ability to earn so as long as they're, ELIGIBLE i
think on those, grounds THE ncaa has a hard time

(58:47):
arguing that they should have to. Lead what like If
Jason zachary wanted to remain enroll In clinton in pursuing
a matter's. Program is THE ncaa gonna tell me as
to Lead, no unless they collectively, bargain let the athlete
treble to ratify some terms of some sort of employment
agreement or, whatever some adjacent them to employment, agreement whatever

(59:08):
you want to call. IT i think that is going
to be very difficult for THE ncia.

Speaker 6 (59:12):
To get out of a.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
Court qualk about two and a half minutes before the.
BREAK i do want to get your thoughts On Lee
corso in the news that came out last, week his
final game day the first week of the. Season give
me some thoughts as a little a younger guy than,
me On Lee corso's impact on the.

Speaker 3 (59:29):
Game you know what's.

Speaker 7 (59:30):
Fascinating people have been looking for the next League. Corso
we've been doing.

Speaker 6 (59:33):
That for ten years or, more and the reality is not.

Speaker 7 (59:36):
ONE i said this the other. DAY i Mean Lee,
corso he. Epitomizes he embodies the pure joy of college,
athletics just the most joy like when you think of
the most pure pageantry of college, athletics the bands and
the cheerleaders and the tailgates and the things that make

(59:59):
the game. Beautiful the fund the innocence of.

Speaker 6 (01:00:01):
It That's Lee. Corso they replaced.

Speaker 7 (01:00:04):
Him With pat, McAfee who also is sort of silly
and also knows how to not play a straight man
and also as so you don't go to for hard
hitting analysis kind of Like. Corso but his silly is
like the let's see how FAST i can show this.
Beer let's see how many turns it takes me to
break the. Table ye was, silly, RIGHT i, mean it's

(01:00:24):
just a different it's a Different it's not a Silly
And i'm not saying that one or the other is.
Better i'm not making a value judgment on. That i'm
just simply saying that they have Replaced Lee corso with
a different type of sort of, clown if you, will
the crooked man to the straight man on the set
that is silly in a different, way that's willing to

(01:00:46):
sort of put himself out there in a different. Way
you're not gonna see Headgear Reheze davis is already talking about.
THIS i think it's a great. Move you, know somebody, said,
well who's gonna put on the head?

Speaker 3 (01:00:54):
Gear?

Speaker 7 (01:00:55):
Nobody that Is Lee. Corso it was not The college
And ande. Headgear it was The Lee corso headgear pick
because it was uniquely, his AND i think they would
be doing him and the show of disservice if they
tried to pigeonhold somebody else into what Made Lee corso?

Speaker 6 (01:01:09):
Great what Made Lee corso? Great does that he Was Lee?

Speaker 7 (01:01:12):
Corso what Makes pat McAfee great is the Heast pat.
McAfee does that change the things about the?

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Show?

Speaker 7 (01:01:18):
Yes? Uh does that change the things about the way
it's gonna feel and you, know some of the types
of people you might attract and you might lose the
people along the. Way, Yes BUT i Think adam's core
the makeup of the cast in terms of who is
gonna be you, know Herm street is still gonna be
your analysis guy and doesn't how it's gonna be kind
of in the. Middle he's gonna pop off about some

(01:01:38):
hot topics and. Stuff and then you're gonna have McAfee
as sort of the loose, cannon and you're gonna Have
Nick saban as the coach on the. Thing you, know
he's gonna have that sort of coach. Mindset if you
think about, it they're kind of Replacing corso with two
people Because saban's letting his hair down a little, Bit
but McAfee's also sort of a silly. ONE i think
it speaks to the greatness Of Lee corso and how

(01:01:58):
beautiful the soul that he had as for the game
of college, football that it was just a, pleasure even
if he, declined and even if he, was you, know
unable to recapture the magic after his multiple strokes and
some of the issues that he's, had, man his soul
and his hart for the game has just been beautiful
to watch and it will be missed.

Speaker 3 (01:02:18):
Quick.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Great we'll come out With moore With william Qualkin bush
on the flip, side keep it locked back out that On,
Monday william Qualkin bush holding through the, break hanging out with.
Us he was on the call for all three games
this past weekend For clipses as they take On they
took on The Louisville cardinals a week after taking on
The Stanford cardinal AND i don't know about, you, dude
but that's got to be more tongue tied than just

(01:02:40):
about Anything i've dealt with in a while in. Radio,
YEAH i think it's, great.

Speaker 7 (01:02:43):
You, KNOW i think it's great to Play louisville After
stanford and you KNOW i didn't call The stanford, series thank,
goodness because there's no WAY i would have kept that.
STRAIGHT i, MEAN i have no chance to keep that.
Straight but, yeah, yeah a lot Of Cardinal Cardinals clemson
football didn't.

Speaker 6 (01:03:01):
They it Wasn't it.

Speaker 7 (01:03:02):
Wasn't, uh it wasn't. Exactly maybe it was basketball, somebody
some of us board did that already this year where
they Went Cardinal cardinals Or Cardinals.

Speaker 2 (01:03:10):
Cardinals, well football definitely played them. Both i'd have to
look at the schedule to see if they were back
to the.

Speaker 7 (01:03:14):
Back it wasn't back to. Back it wasn't back to.
Back there was some sport to play them back to.
Back AND i remember BECAUSE I i.

Speaker 6 (01:03:21):
Did one or the other of the, games and uh.

Speaker 7 (01:03:23):
Sort of brought that up that it. Was it was
an interesting back to, back so you know it. Was
it was women's BASKETBALL acc. Tournament they Beat, stanford and
then the next DAY i had to Play louisville AND
i had to be real careful with my singular.

Speaker 6 (01:03:37):
Plural uh in that.

Speaker 2 (01:03:39):
Example there you, Go William Walker bush here on A monday.
Afternoon it is, difficult no doubt about. It when you
got those two back to, back and you, Know clemson
baseball the three, games, man they were really. Phenomenal Drew
titsworth in that middle game On. Friday uh just you,
KNOW i said going into the, WEEKEND i really felt,

(01:04:01):
like outside Of Aiden, connock they really need to find
somebody else that could give, them you, know the high
quality six innings, start whatever you want to call. It
And i'm not saying that one, game you, know is
the magic elixir qual but, boy it sure did feel
good to have somebody out there on the bump that
could deliver For clemson in a big.

Speaker 6 (01:04:19):
Way well it.

Speaker 7 (01:04:20):
Did and you, Know Drew, tisworth the way he pitched was,
phenomenal you, know for a guy THAT i think his
longest outing was maybe four innings out of the bullpenel
was a midweek a week and a half before Against Gardner.
Webb that fastball is.

Speaker 6 (01:04:34):
Nasty it's it's.

Speaker 7 (01:04:35):
Nasty it reminds me of the closer for The college
Of Charleston, privet who literally is the one pitch. Guy
he just throws that fastball at the top of the
zone and it takes off like a rocket ship and
he can't touch. It very annoying when it guy throws
one pitch and it's a fastball and nobody could square it.
Up but that's What Drew tisworth's fastball was doing the other.
Night And i'll tell you this. Too you, know The

(01:04:57):
tigers had been looking for consistency in the rotation Besides
Aiden kannock And Drew. TITSWORTH i think you're making a
little bit of a value judge me, here because it
does weaken your bullpen when you take Tit's worth. Out perfect,
example you got A saturday Of game. Three you don't
have Tits, worth you don't Have, garris you don't Have,

(01:05:17):
Malstead and first of, all it changes how you might
Deploy Garrison, malstead maybe not, together maybe you do those guys.
Separately ideally in your first couple of games there as
a closer one day and then the next. Day but
if you for some reason don't have either one of,
them now you're down basically your top three, relievers all
those high leverage, guys because tits worths in the, rotation my,

(01:05:40):
opinion is worth that trade, off and it was worth
it On, saturday because even though you didn't have those
guys the first nine, innings she used two, pitchers used
The gerald for two And bailey for. Seven, look you
don't have To this doesn't have to be an all
v high. Rotation it, Doesn't But Drew titsworth gives you
an option After Aiden. Kannock it gives a nice compliment

(01:06:02):
to Bj, bailey who's more of a pitch ability. Guy
you got Tits worth throwing that bastball by people at
the top of his. OWNE i thought the pitching, plan
the decision to open with Fitz, GERALD i don't think
it could have worked any better For clemson in this.
Series that's Despite Aiden cannot getting hit around a little
bit and victimized by a couple of errors in there
and just some interesting stuff going on. There he was

(01:06:23):
not his, Best BUT i thought this was the best
plan that Cumps into executed for the first twenty seven
hours of the.

Speaker 2 (01:06:29):
Series clemson moves up to number two in all Five
Major division One baseball. Polls we've walking with us On
twitter at Qualk. Talk the other THING i will say
Cam CANERELL i talked about him earlier that catch he
made at the. Wall, dude he's just a. BALLPLAYER i,
mean he just makes things. HAPPEN i absolutely love the

(01:06:49):
way he plays the. Game it's a relentless effort THAT
i wish every player who plays sports had with kind
of in, them but that's something that you're born with,
man and he is a difference.

Speaker 3 (01:07:02):
MAKER i So.

Speaker 7 (01:07:03):
YEAH i was ON tv talking To Eric backetts during
the play during that, catch and one of the things
THAT i loved watching it later is THAT i really
didn't get to focus On Eric baggatt's reaction, live Like
i'm trying to make sure That i'm calling it.

Speaker 6 (01:07:16):
Correctly did he catch the?

Speaker 7 (01:07:17):
Ball are we gonna show a? Replay Like i'm thinking
about a lot of stuff in that, moment AND i
felt LIKE i was focusing on. NOTHING i was watching
a thousand. Things and one of the things that's beautiful
is Watching Eric beckett's watch live As Keim canilla makes that.
Catch just the joy on his face to watch him
make that play is. Remarkable AND i ACTUALLY i didn't

(01:07:40):
get to ask him, this BUT i really want, to
and maybe the next time we have him on THE
tv side in a couple of, WEEKS i might be
able to Is he recently said that there was a
catch THAT i saw live at cal where he said
it's the second best catch That i've seen him. Make
he jumped over the wall and right center and robbed
the home. RUN i want to know if that was
better or worse than this catch coln al ranks and

(01:08:01):
how many guys third best catch is an all run
robbery like either the one At calaway reaches over a
high wall and brings it back or the one away
to still shout of him looks like a lizard crawling
up the wall where he could have kissed the top
of the wall On. Saturday just a remarkable, athlete great human.
Being he's having allowed the offensive year by a. STANDARDS
i know HE'S i know he's frustrated by, That but,

(01:08:24):
man there are some things on a baseball, field no matter,
what that he can do that nobody else in the
game can. Do and you saw one of them on
that catch over the.

Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
Weekend, yeah reminded me kind of the jumpman, logo to be,
honest kind of Little Michael jordan with this thug. Spread
and how beautiful is it That Jack leggett's name and
number are kind of right there in the frame of that.
WHOLE i, mean it, was it was. Wild you're called
with spectacular and you're. Right coach's reaction actually played the
clip that either you OR espn whoever, posted AND i

(01:08:55):
played that little moment and he's JUST i think coach
is just, Going, wow what a. BALLPLAYER i, mean he's he's.
STUNNED i think everybody.

Speaker 6 (01:09:04):
Was he's literally just.

Speaker 7 (01:09:05):
Stunned he's just like. Wow you, know he didn't really
put together a sentence for a little bit. There he just.
Stunned and look and as many times you think him
do something like, that the bat happens in the. Game
and by the, way how many times we Have Eric
baggat's ON tv and some guy that sits in an
absolute tank and he has to talk about like talk through.
It AND i thought that was gonna happen. Again we're
used to. That, uh this was. DIFFERENT i could get

(01:09:29):
used to this more conversations.

Speaker 2 (01:09:31):
Like, that no. Doubt qualk appreciate you as, always, buddy
have a great week and we'll talk to you real.

Speaker 3 (01:09:36):
Soon.

Speaker 7 (01:09:37):
Thanks swani as gonna be ready to have a good.

Speaker 2 (01:09:38):
Week they Go william Kwalkin bush again his his conversation
and call with With Eric. Backage when Cam canerella makes
that play, man it was. Unbelievable see what for those
of you just joining us when we get, back we'll resent.
It we'll play that clip for you here an hour number.

Happened highway robbery out in center field At Doug Kingsmore.

Speaker 4 (01:11:20):
Stadium able to get out of some jams like that as.
Well you gotta be pleased As king hits one a
mile and he.

Speaker 5 (01:11:28):
My, Word carella, says, no, sir he is so.

Speaker 2 (01:11:34):
Good he can do things nobody else can. Do just
Appreciating eric backage. There he is so. Good he can
do things that other guys can't. Do here it is
one more.

Speaker 4 (01:11:50):
Time able to get out of some jams like that as.
Well you gotta be pleased As king hits one a
mile and, hell.

Speaker 5 (01:11:57):
Oh my, word, no, sir he is so.

Speaker 8 (01:12:04):
Good he can do things nobody else can.

Speaker 2 (01:12:09):
Do what an awesome clip Cam canerell will have for
the rest of his life when it comes down to
that moment and that play and his head. Coach just having,
that you, know that level of what's the right word.

(01:12:31):
Here it's not, respect not, honor not, dignity just having
you know when when you've coached and you've been, around
LIKE i think Da books when he says it, best
you know it when you see, it and you know
when you don't and with Cam, canerella regardless of Like

(01:12:55):
qualk mitched some of the offensive. Issues, now he certainly
had some big moments and big. Hits i'm not sure
that in the biggest of, MOMENTS i wouldn't want him
at the, plate but to have that play made, defensively
the audio does not do it. Justice let's put it that.

(01:13:15):
Way and that tweet WHERE i saw that version of
the video came from THE. Mlb Major League baseball tweeted
that one so home run robbery By camcatarella a zero

(01:13:38):
three four five zero zero eighty six text line phone
line be a part of the show, anytime, anyplace, anywhere you,
know on our, Website Clemson Sports talk dot. Com all,
Right So qualk AND i were also talking About Lee

(01:13:59):
corso and his impact on the world of college sports
and college. Football you, know the thing THAT i started
thinking about too with Coach corso is how he managed
to almost take making that pick from being something that

(01:14:24):
you wanted, right like you would want him to pick your,
team to where he went through a little streak where
he missed it so much that when he'd pick, you
you go, no not the. Jinks it was like the
sports illustrated Cover. Jinks and THEN i think as we

(01:14:45):
went along and you got a little further into his
tenure and you knew his career was winding, down you
almost went the other directtion and hoped that Coach corso
would put your helmet on or your your head gear,

(01:15:08):
on because it may very well be the last time
that he adorns a head. Gear and because of that,
fact AS i said last, WEEK i think it is
safe That corso and Game day will be At Ohio

(01:15:29):
state And texas simply because he will Pick Ohio, state
he will put on that brutus helmet headgear, again and
that will bring the story full. CIRCLE i, mean the only,
way the MORE i thought about this over the, weekend

(01:15:53):
the only Way corso would not be Picking Ohio state
would be If Ohio state was playing you, know a
school that had no significance AND espn couldn't justify being
there for that. Game but because it's a big, matchup

(01:16:16):
a huge matchup to two teams that were in The
College Football Playoff big TEN sec opening, weekend like no
offense To clemson IN, lsu but you aren't That Florida
state and they're opening Against. Alabama you aren't that that
game is the best game that weekend in terms of

(01:16:40):
recognition of the college Football. Playoff you've got the debut
of Arch manning And cours Picking brutus the only the,
Ultimate like you, know. WRESTLING i didn't get a chance
to Watch WrestleMania last. NIGHT i did get to Watch Saturday's. WrestleMania,
eh we'll see What sundays looks like. Tonight i'll probably

(01:17:02):
try to watch. It but the ultimate he'll turn would
be the build up to being At Ohio state and
everybody expecting him to pick The buckeyes And brutus and
the head, gear and then to he'll turn that in
and pick The. LONGHORNS i, mean that would be the
ultimate way to go out if your, course SO i
will give you, that that would be the way to go.

(01:17:24):
Out but, yeah there's no chance it's not In Ohio
state And. Texas not a chance at. All final segment
coming up around the. Bend stay with, Us.

Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
What have you done for me? Lately it's a fair.
Question just don't lose sight of the bigger, picture don't forget.
History lucky for us At. Clemson the answer to the
questions what have you done for me lately and what
have you? Done always are the? Same we win.

Speaker 2 (01:18:45):
Final segment on A monday, afternoon the show that shakes
The south wyand THE Nba playoffs officially getting underway after
the play in games, concluded and if you were keeping
score at home in The, west where everything was as

(01:19:06):
tight as can, be the seventh Seeded Golden State warriors
one game one of their play in over the eight
Seeded Memphis grizzlies to earn their spot Against. Houston and
then the seventh Seeded Golden State warriors Beat houston in game.

(01:19:29):
ONE i told you how tight it was Out west,
yesterday and then The grizzlies eliminated The, mavericks putting The
west exactly where it would have been one verses, eight, two, seven, three,
six four. Five more on those matchups in a. Minute

(01:19:52):
in The, east you'll recall seventh Seeded orlando beat eight
Seeded atlanta to move into a two seven matchup With. Boston,
well then The heat knocked out The. Bulls The heat
where the ten seed knocked down the nine Seed bulls
then knocked out the eight Seed, hawks meaning the ten

(01:20:12):
Seeded heat are in THE Nba playoffs as the eighth
seed going up against The Cleveland. Cavaliers now FROM Nba.
Action last, Night Oklahoma, city the best team in THE,
nba throttled what record wise Throttled memphis one thirty one

(01:20:35):
eighty a fifty one point victory In game one FOR,
Okc boston Top orlando one oh three eighty. Six cleveland
Beat miami won twenty, one one hundred and AS i,
Mentioned Golden state Topp houston ninety five eighty five last. Night,

(01:20:55):
tonight a couple of games ON, Tnt TRUE, tv And
max seven point. Thirty it'll Be detroit In New york
as that series got underway over the. Weekend New york
leads at one game to. None denver and The Los
Angeles clippers at ten o'clock tonight On TRUE, TV t
AND t And. Max denver leads that series one game to.

(01:21:18):
None then tomorrow you've Got milwaukee And indiana at seven
o'clock ON NBA tv at seven, Thirty memphis AND, okc
and you've got Our Los Angeles, lakers who are down
one game to none To. Minnesota tuesday night at ten
o'clock ON. Tnt by the, Way indiana up one game

(01:21:41):
to none Over. Milwaukee AS i, Mentioned Oklahoma city up
one to oho Over, memphis and again Our lakers currently.

Speaker 3 (01:21:50):
Down.

Speaker 2 (01:21:51):
Man there was a huge run By minnesota in that
first game to take a lead on the, road mind,
you but The west is, TIGHT i mean these. Teams
there was not a, lot AS i mentioned going into the,
playoffs not a lot separating these teams in terms of their,

(01:22:13):
records especially Out, WEST i mean Out. West from the
teams that are in the, playoffs there were four games
difference between eighth place and second. Place that's just. Crazy
memphis was forty eight and thirty four and in eighth
place And houston was fifty two and thirty and in second.

(01:22:38):
Place that tells you all you need to know about
how The west is a huge. Logjam and it's hard
to imagine that anybody except The Oklahoma City thunder ended
up winning The west because they were sixteen games better

(01:23:05):
than everyone on that side of the. Docket Sixteen to
put that in, Perspective cleveland in The east was just
three games better Than boston and was sixteen games better
than the fifth, seed The Milwaukee. Bucks Oklahoma city was

(01:23:26):
sixteen games better than everybody out. West but AGAIN nba
playoffs are. Underway Our Los Angeles lakers got their back
a little bit against the wall at this, point losing
home court advantage After game. One that's not where you
want to, Be, Lebron that's not.

Speaker 3 (01:23:43):
Where you want to.

Speaker 2 (01:23:43):
Be let's get this thing figured, Out. Luca, ANYWAY i
will be keeping up with it for, sure but tonight
not so. MUCH i LIKE i, SAID i will lock
in and watch a little bit of the, wrestling just
AS i don't watch a lot of. Wrestling, okay BUT i.
DO i do Watch. WrestleMania that's about the one SHOW

(01:24:08):
i watch a. Year it's a two day of. Affair
BUT i do watch. It nothing wrong with. That it's
a male soap. Opera that's what it. Is it's a
male soap. Opera the problem IS i don't watch it
enough to know. How i'm, like, oh that guy's still.
Wrestling it's kind of like when you turn on like
a regular, soaparper you, GO i thought that guy died

(01:24:31):
in a car crash a couple of seasons. Ago oh,
yeah he's. Back his body was frozen and they resuscitated
him years. Later oh, okay seems. Realistic all, right we
gotta get out of. Here we'll talk the other morning till.
Then it's always. Y'all take care now and Goat. Tigers
