(01:51):
five oh zero zero eighty six hit us up all right.
Yesterday we got the news Clemson in LSU officially seven
and thirty kickoff under the lights and death valley man
talk about a prime affair. We mentioned it yesterday, and
really I would make the argument for LSU it's a

(02:12):
much more important ballgame, ironically than it is for Clemson.
I mean, quite frankly, there have been moments in the
early goings of Brian Kelly's tenure at LSU where the
VYU Bingle Faithful have been kind of like, hey, did
we hire the right guy? In the Notre Dame Faithful,
I would make the argument off of the heels of

(02:33):
a run to the national championship a season ago under
Marcus Freeman are probably looking at things and going, now,
you know what, that wasn't such a bad deal for
us either. And so Brian Kelly, who has had a
tremendous coaching career, made the move from Notre Dame to

(02:53):
LSU at the beginning or the end of the twenty
twenty one season the beginning of the twenty twenty two
two season, perhaps feeling like he had reached a pinnacle
with the fighting Irish. He ends up going to LSU.
They go ten and four, six and two and finish
number sixteen in the country. Still some fans upset about that.

(03:17):
They go ten and three, six and two in the SEC.
They finished number twelve in the country, winning their bowl game.
They were a Liaquest Bowl. By the way, he's undefeated
in bowl games. Still fans upset about that. Then in
twenty twenty four, they go nine to four, five and
three and they win the Texas Bowl. They're twenty nine

(03:40):
and eleven. They're seventeen and seven. But LSU fans certainly
feel like they've underperformed given what they had hoped and expected.
After bringing in Brian Kelly from Notre Dame at the
end of the twenty twenty one season, where he went
ele in one, leading the Fighting Irish to a top

(04:03):
ten finish. He had also finished fifth the season prior
in twenty twenty, that COVID nineteen season where they went
ten to two and nine to zero, losing in the
Rose Bowl to Alabama and the College Football Playoff. Now,
for Kelly, I'm not saying you wear out. You're welcome
after three seasons by any means, But if you're LSU

(04:29):
and you go on the road and you lose to
Clemson in the season opener, regardless of how well thought
of the Tigers are, and with ESPN's release, as I
mentioned here yesterday on the program, ESPN currently putting Clemson
as the number two team in the country. Holy crap,

(04:51):
I am freaking out. No need to freak out about that.
They've got LSU as the number six team in all
the land, but they're There's plenty of belief post spring
about this Clemson Tiger football team and how good they
can potentially be. And I know that if things go south,

(05:13):
game cognation hanging out with us every day, peeking over
the fence and being part of the program.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
So you could continue to peek over the fence at
the best radio showing.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
The naked will love to give me grief about the
Tiger's faltering, but it's not my list. I'm not the
one putting them out. It's journalists at ESPN, and it's
Peyton State, and it's everybody else taking a look at
this Clemson team and saying, hey, you know what, this

(05:42):
might be a really good team in twenty twenty five.
Given the returning players that Clemson has on both sides
of the ball. The job that Clemson did in the
transferred portal rather small, if you will. And I'm not
gonna lie to you. I know the Tiger's Lost film off,
and I know there were moments in Phil Mafa's career

(06:03):
where man, he was a heck of a playmaker. And
I get all that. There were times when Phil and
Will or Will and Phil the fresh Prince as I
called him, when they arrived at Clemson, when I would
have much preferred to have Phil MafA carrying the ball
to Will Shipley, no doubt about that, just because of
his style. But I also fall into the line of

(06:25):
you know what I saw Travis Etn, I saw CJ. Spiller,
and as good as MafA was at times, he was
not those guys. And some will say that's an unfair
comparison to Swann. You should be comparing him to those guys.
That's unfair to MafA. But I think really what I'm

(06:46):
getting at is is that losing MafA is a big deal,
but it ain't losing Travis Etn big. It's not losing C. J.
Spiller big. And so you know, for the people that
have high expectations that clemps is gonna have a good season.
Some of that probably persist because yes, you lost the

(07:09):
starting court, the starting running back, but you didn't lose
you know, the ultimate elite type running back. But I
guarantee you if Clemson somehow, you know, falters in game one,
it has a bad year. The game Cocks that are
hanging out with us and you know, talking to us
and text us and hit us up, they'll come and

(07:32):
let me know.

Speaker 2 (07:33):
Come after me.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
I'm a man, I'm forty. I'm not a kid. I'm
not a kid. Come after me if you want to.
But following the match up against Clemson, back to LSU
for a minute. Following that match up, on August thirtieth,
they seven thirty Eastern kickoff, six thirty Central for our all,
for all our buy you Bengal fans hanging out with
this year on the program. They'll take on Louisiana Tech

(07:58):
on September the sixth. They've got a match up against
Florida at home in Tiger Stadium on September the thirteenth.
They'll then play Southeastern Louisiana at home on September the twentieth,
and one would believe at that point if they were
to lose to Clemson, They'll be three to one heading

(08:19):
into their game against Old Miss. That game's on the
road in Oxford. That's always going to be a tricky situation,
especially especially with Lane Kiffin there as the head coach. Offensively,
Old Miss, I'm sure they'll figure ways to exploit LSU's
defense take advantage. That's really one of the big aspects

(08:40):
in my opinion of watching Lane Kiffin in his approach
is his ability to scheme players. Open September the twenty seventh,
that Old Miss, that'll be a tough one. Then they'll
host South Carolina on October the eleventh, the game Coxs
will head out to LSU. That will be a tough
game for LSU first certain because I expect big things

(09:01):
from South Carolina this year. They go to Vanderbilt again.
We know Vanderbilt had a resurgence season a year ago.
Not one hundred percent sold that. You know Vandy will
be able to do it again, even with Diego Pavia
there at quarterback. But that game's on the road. They'll

(09:23):
host Texas A and M. Look the Aggies. Oh, this
is gonna be a hard hitting This is gonna be
a hard hitting take I might argue over the past
ten years, the Aggies are possibly the most disappointed team
in college football by comparison to the expectations. Ooh hot,
take alert there from Swati. They might be the most

(09:47):
disappointing team by comparison to the expectations in college football.
But they get him at home. I mean, it's a
favorable schedule. Then they go to Brant Denny Stadium in Alabama.
That's gonna be tough. They'll Arkansas the following week, they
host Western Kentucky, and then they end their season at Oklahoma.

(10:08):
Not a lot of people buying in on Brent divinables
and in the Oklahoma Sooners right now. I know a
lot of people think they'll be in the top twenty five,
but just how good overall is a big question. But
barring what Oklahoma is and how good South Carolina ends
up being, etc. And maybe even another team I really
shouldn't discount obviously is the Florida Gators. But you know

(10:33):
the thought process about LSU schedule and how it all
shakes out. They got a chance to have a really
good year, which is why they're thought of as the
number six team of the country. But you come out
of Death Valley. You come out of Clemson South Carolina,
catching an l on the chin, taking a loss, and

(10:59):
the seed the heat up. You go home. You beat
Louisiana TEKNA, then lose to Florida. Now you're one in
two and you got Southeastern Louisiana before taking on Old Miss.
Fans are looking at that, going, boy, I don't know
if this is the guy. And by the way, South Carolina,

(11:20):
you're homecoming. You are the homecoming date for LSU this season.
I'm not totally convinced right that Clemson and or LSU
should be ranked as highser sort of considered at this point.
These aren't official preseason rankings by any means. I mean

(11:43):
a lot can change between now and the official rankings.
Quarterbacks get hurt, players get injured during fall camp. But
the belief is it's going to be a top six
matchup in Clemson's Death Valley, whereas I said yesterday in
the Death Valley, as these two teams face off to

(12:07):
open the season, and again it's official seven thirty under
the Lights. I believe the release that Clemson put out,
or maybe it was I think it was Ross Taylor
actually put this out last night, but I'm pretty sure

(12:28):
Taylor noted that this was the first night is it
night opener? Now, I can't remember the exact verbiage. Let
me see if I can dig in his Twitter account
real quick. He's at Clemson FB ross. Yeah, here it

(12:48):
is the last time Clemson opened a season in Death
Valley in the ABC primetime slot. That's the wording. Was
its thirty eight thirty five win against Georgia back in
twenty thirteen. Is Brent Mussburger called what he coined in
nineteen eighty five the most exciting twenty five seconds in

(13:09):
college football, and that was really that was really the
game and the moment where Clemson's hill entrance and the
loading of the buses, Like I think nationally everybody knew
Clemson ran down the hill, like that's not a shock.
That was and that was considered for a lot of

(13:33):
people one of the greatest entrances in college sports. And
then that game back in twenty thirteen allowed ABC and
Musburger to really highlight some of the things that Clemson

(13:54):
fans knew about it that people outside of Tigertown maybe didn't.
Not to mention, this would have been pre twenty sixteen
twenty eighteen national championships, right. I mean this would have
been pre college football playoff era. This would have still
been hey, who's Clemson? Who are these Tigers? What are

(14:15):
they doing? Like you know, the old school nineteen eighties
people remembered, but a lot of the younger kids that
those people born in the early nineties pumpson would have
just been sort of average for a lot of those years.
And so that twenty thirteen game was a signature moment

(14:35):
because they showcased the entire entrance, the ride around the stadium,
things that fans outside of Tigertown maybe didn't know about,
maybe just assumed that the locker room was over on
that side of the field that they didn't know it
was this big to do three right turns, as Clemson
calls it with their podcast. And so in that moment,

(15:00):
the nation or college football fans in the nation, got
to witness something that you and I knew for many years.
And quite frankly, the expansion of the West zone, the
expansion of the West zone sort of stole a little
bit of that from fans. That is ridiculous and true,
because when I was younger, if you were sitting on

(15:24):
the home side of the field, like the South stands,
I think is what that's also called. If you're sitting
in the South stands, you could look to your left
and the stands and what was not even really known
as the West End zone back then. I guess I

(15:45):
don't really know what it would have been called. I
guess maybe they called it the West End zone. But
you could see them getting on the bus. You could
see them making their way around the hill or making
their way around the stadium. They were loading up like
that was like, oh boy, here we go. They're gonna
be around in just a second. Nowadays, if you're not

(16:07):
outside of the stadium, you can't really see that. From
inside the stadium. Now, those of you in the South Upper,
on the west side of the South Upper, you might
have a little glimpse of it. But for everybody else,

(16:29):
the other eighty three thousand people in the menu, they
can't see it. They don't really know what's happening until now.
They cut the cameras on. Then they follow the buses
around and you get the whole security camera footage. You
look of it all trying to add a little bit
to the ambiance. I think inside that valley with the

(16:50):
massive jumbo tron, I mean absolutely massive JumboTron. And I'm
gonna make a slight argument here on the JumboTron for
a minute. You know, in the graphic that clemtsoud put
out about playing LSU with the seven thirty kickoff and

(17:12):
and everything, I'm I'm just gonna say, as big as
the jumbo tron appears in Death Valley, in my opinion,
when you look at it a photos in television, I

(17:33):
think that thing could be three times at size. I
really think you could put the same size jumbo tron
to the left and potentially to the right and take
that to be the largest JumboTron in all of America,
I would imagine. I mean it, there's plenty of root Clemson.
Clemson's not short on room for the jumbo tron after

(17:56):
looking at the photo. But seven point thirty against ls
I think it's a huge game for LSU. I think
it's a bigger game for Brian Kelly. You know, this
season is one of those years where it will probably
be a determining factor on his tenure at LSU. And

(18:17):
if they open with a struggle Bus type performance in
Memorial Stadium, Death Valley, against your Tigers eyeball. In that schedule.
It look, it's they're not playing Texas, okay, And you
might argue that they are missing some of the other

(18:38):
big powers in the SEC, if you will. But when
you gotta play South Carolina this year, when you gotta
play Florida and old Miss Texas A and M, You're
gonna get pushed, You're gonna get challenged. It's not gonna

(18:59):
be some kind of cake walk for LSU. And if
the Bengals don't deliver when they visit the Blue Ridge Mountains,
the Tigers will be in a good spot to not
only make a run to the College Football Playoff, but

(19:20):
would certainly begin to at Week one, would begin to
check boxes on the resume for being one of those
top four, those coveted top four seeds. And it's interesting too,
because with the College Football Playoff and Clemson going on
the road a year go to Texas, there might be

(19:41):
some of you that feel a little bit differently about
that fact, that top four fact. I'm not saying that
you want to lose this opening game, but there's some
of you out there saying, wait a minute, swiddie, there's
more to it. I'll tell you what that is when
we return. This is a sports talk on a Wednesday,

(20:03):
Lawton Swad hating out with you know Mike, youve of
to day. He's busy again, so I guess we'll just
have a week off from Mike. You have a no
Boston accent for you here in the South. I apologize.
I do not apologize. How However, for Alumni Hall and
their fantastic location on the corner of campus on College
Avenue of downtown Clemson, go check them out the day

(20:24):

It's alumni Hall online in alumni Hall dot com. All Right,

(21:09):
So those of you that went to Texas this past year,
and I understand you want to get a coveted top
four spot in the codgeootball Playoff. Who doesn't everybody wants
to cove the top four spot. I can't blame you,
but there is always the possibility. And this year maybe
sets up well for Clemson given their schedule, given a

(21:32):
matchup with LSU that the Tigers, and look, I know
you want to win the a SEC Championship. I mean
that's the short fire route to the Collage Football Playoff,
but there is also that home playoff game that isn't

(21:54):
the worst thing in the world for college football town.
I would imagine last seas, all the teams that hosted
opening around games, all of those schools, Penn State, Ohio State, Texas, Like,

(22:15):
you think those schools didn't enjoy that opportunity to have
a college football matchup on their home campus. Who was
the other Notre Dame hosted Indiana? You think that wasn't
a big deal? Absolutely? And how about the fact that

(22:35):
two of those teams that hosted by the way, the
number eight seed Ohio State and the number seven seed
Notre Dame were the two that made their way to
the College Football Playoff National Championship Game. As a matter
of fact, you might remember that none of the teams

(22:57):
that got buys advanced, But either way, a chance to
host a college football playoff game, I mean, that's another
real possibility for this Clemson Tiger football team this season.
If you don't buy into an ACC championship run, but

(23:19):
you do buy into a really good resume, guess what,
you'll get a chance to host a college football playoff game.
And you can certainly argue it worked out for those
four schools Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, and Notre Dame.
As those are the four schools that advanced to the

(23:41):
semi finals. The top four seeds in the first year
of the College Football Playoff did not win a game.
Top seeded Oregon got smoked by Ohio State, Seconcy To
Georgia got beat by thirteen against Notre Dame, Boise State
got pounded, the three seed got pounded by Penn State,

(24:04):
and for seeded Arizona State and Texas had a little,
a little battle if you will, in Atlanta actually turned
out to be a better game than I think it
looked like it was gonna be. It's Arizona State rallied
but fell thirty nine to thirty one in that ballgame
against the Texas Longhorns. But yeah, that's something else to

(24:25):
consider this season and something I think when you see
Clemson tabbed as one of the top couple of teams
in the country out of the gates, a lot of
people go, oh man, what a year? Can we make it?
You know? I think I think the perception is still
being like top four. God, can we get to the playoffs? Dude?
It's a twelve team playoff and I'm not saying you

(24:48):
want to be one of those schools that hosts. But
I can think of I can think of worse things
than starting your season at home under the lights at
seven thirty against LSU and then maybe wrapping up the
you know, or maybe not wrapping up the season, but
wrapping up the home slate with a night game in

(25:11):
the College Football Playoff era at home taking on Oregon
or something, you know what I mean, like O G.
Swani or you're telling me we might you might could
add an Oregon home game to Clemson's schedule. Yeah, something
like that. Again, who knows how it'll all play out,
but certainly, the the excitement and from the standpoint of

(25:36):
the media, the expectations are through the roof. And I
think it was William Kwalkinbush who said on Monday something
along the lines of, you know, it's almost like Clemson's
got to try to temper the expectations, like say, hey, hey, wait, wait, wait,
it's way too early to start, you know, writing that check.

(26:00):
It's way too early to start saying the Tigers are
the number two team in the country or even wait
for it, I have now seen them listed on one
one ranking as the number one team in college football

(26:21):
coming out of spring. Yeah, you are not gonna believe it.
The Tigers. We've seen them flirting with two quite a
bit with Penn State at one post spring breakdowns, et cetera.
Well one college Football playoff insider host commentator. However you

(26:44):
want to label them, says I not so fast, my friends,
but we're gonna put the Tigers a little bit higher
on the docket than number two post spring. Yep, it's
out there. It is. It's all on the world wide web.

Speaker 3 (27:01):
Oh got new and get my news from the internet,
like give you other normal person under seventy.

Speaker 1 (27:06):
That's where it is. I'll give you the update on
who said it and the rest of their top twenty rankings,
not twenty five, their top twenty rankings. When we get
back here on the show, The Shakes the South Lay
and it is Clemson Sports Talk. Keep a lot right
here well Fox Sports Radio fourteen under the buildings, and
of course you can listen around the world on the

(27:26):
iHeartRadio app, and don't forget to catch the podcast that
are also available to you each and every day. Stay
with us Clemson Sports Salt, Lawton Swine. So Josh Pate,
we heard from him the other day. We talked about
Josh Pate Well, CBS Sports's Josh Pate, host of Pate
State or the Josh Pate I guess it's called the

(27:48):
Josh Pate College Football Show. Put out his post spring
top twenty rankings, and we've seen people falling in love
with those Tigers. We've seen people that love what is
doing and are prepared to anoint the Tigers as one
of the top two teams in the land, including ESPN
as their release on Clemson and LSU listed the Tigers

(28:12):
as number two and LSU was number six, but post
spring rankings from Josh Pate pops the Tigers on top
the number one team in college football. Holy moly. I
said it the other day. I'll continue to stand by it.

(28:32):
This is the most love Clemson football has gotten since,
probably coming off of the heels of winning in twenty eighteen.
Maybe it felt like this in twenty nineteen after losing
LSU in the National Championship game, before that twenty twenty season,
but remember the twenty twenty season was marred with the
conversations about even if we were gonna have one, which

(28:55):
nobody was certainly were because of COVID nineteen. And now,
looking back, I think it's quite possible that twenty eighteen was,
you know, after that national championship, after forty four to sixteen,
after the dethroning of of of Nick Saban in Alabama,

(29:15):
and doing it in a fashion almost like if you're
a fan of Game of Thrones, it was like red
wedding style here spoiler alert, not gonna try to give
you too much information on that because some of you
might still want to watch that show. But since then,

(29:35):
I think this is the most well thought of Clemson
has been in the mind's eye of college football experts,
But how do you feel about that? Like, again, this
is not me. I don't know where I would put
Clemson right now, But this is not your boy Swanee
throwing up the Clemson Paul. This is the national media

(30:01):
and national media members evaluating Clemson as such. Josh Pate's
post spring college football playoff rankings again, Clemson number one,
but we'll start at twenty, will work our way down
towards the Tigers. At number twenty, he's got the Texas
Tech Red Raiders, followed by number nineteen, the Michigan Wolverines

(30:22):
at number eighteen, the South Carolina game Coss game cognation.
I know, I get it. That's a disappointing spot to be.
That would be a spot where I would say, man,
we got a lot to prove now. Granted, granted, you
look at the number of players South Carolina had drafted
in the NFL and I wish we were talking to

(30:43):
Mike Youber the day. But that's probably a part of
that storyline. If you had some of those guys back,
you're probably much higher. You're probably top ten. But when
you lose the kind of guys that Carolina lost. That
sets you back a little bit, but you can still
go out and prove it. You still get your at bats.
Number seventeen the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. Now that's one

(31:08):
to keep your eyeballs on, for sure, because certainly Brent
Key has done a really good job during his time
at Georgia Tech in setting himself up for a huge
amount of success and the players there, the transfer portal,

(31:30):
the recruiting, I mean, everything at Georgia Tech has ticked
up in the right direction under Brent Key's tutelage. And
as I noted last year during the ACC the ACC
kickoff up in Charlotte, when I saw Brent Key and

(31:54):
his flared collar, I was like, oh boy, this guy's
looking confident. And the Tigers will take on the Yellow
Jackets in the third week of the season. By the way,
at number sixteen the old Miss Rebels. Number fifteen Illinois.
Don't you wonder if South Carolina had defeated Illinois in

(32:15):
their bowl game with those two b flip flop, does
that even matter? Like what you do in that final game.
I mean, obviously Clemson's rated higher than Texas because you
know that because Clempson is number one, But does that
head to head matchup matter at all going into another season.
I don't know. Maybe a little bit, Maybe a little
bit anyway. At number thirteen Arizona State and number twelve

(32:39):
the Miami Hurricanes. Checking in at number eleven the Georgia
Bulldogs and at number ten Brent Venables in the Oklahoma Sooner.
So Josh Pate buying in buying into Brent Vinables there
in Oklahoma. We could certainly talk about Oklahoma in just
a minute. As again, the quarterback will be the biggest

(33:02):
question I would assume in terms of the possible level
of success that Brent Vinibles has. I don't deny the defense.
It'll be quarterback play. And you saw what happen in
that South Carolina game for Oklahoma that blew up right
in their face. At number nine the Florida Gators, number eight,

(33:23):
the Ohio State Buckeyes, number seven, the Oregon Ducks according
to Josh Pate, and number six the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.
At number five LSU and number four Alabama, number three,
Penn State number two post spring for Josh Pate, Payton
State says it'll be Texas and number one again Clemson.

(33:47):
But back to Brent Vinnables and the Oklahoma Sooners and
the questions surrounding their quarterback play twenty twenty five. John
Mattier transferred in from Washington State. He was the nation's

(34:10):
leader in total touchdowns a year ago. And look, I
think Michael Hawkins Junior has a chance to be a
really good quarterback. But I think a year ago, you know,
he looked like a freshman, and Matier is a red
shirt junior. He's got some history, you know, under his belt.

(34:35):
It was a Manning Manning Award finalist a year ago,
and certainly gives them confidence and an upper classman in
that quarterback room that they sorely need this Oklahoma Sooner team.
They've got one other upper classman, Cole Gonzalez to transfer

(34:57):
from Western Carolina, who's a senior. But I mean, Mattie's
the one that I think everybody thinks is going to
get the bulk of the play in time, and uh,
that'll be good for Hawkins Junior, in my opinion. Final
segment of our one around the bind keep it locked.
Final segment of our number one to show the shakes
of south Land Clemson Sports Talk. All right, NBA conversations

(35:20):
here on the program, because again it is the NBA playoffs,
and whether you like the NBA or not, that's you know,
that's not really the point of this conversation, not to
drag you down by any means. But last night, the

(35:43):
Indiana Pacers advanced with a one fourteen a one oh
five victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers. The top seed in
the East is cooked, Tyrese Halliburton leading the way thirty
one points on ten to fifteen from the floor as

(36:06):
the Pacers advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals. You know,
I talked about feeling good for the Knicks. We'll see
if the Knicks can get the j ob d o
n e the job done tonight at seven o'clock on
T and T against Boston in an elimination game for
the Celtics. But I kind of feel good for Rick Carlyle.

(36:28):
You kind of look at his story, you follow his career.
I mean, he's he's been you know, I talked about
Papovich Elder the other day, but I mean Rick Carlyle
has been around and was the head coach of the

(36:50):
Pacers from three to seven and has looped back now
after spending but thirteen seasons with the Dallas Mavericks from
O eight to twenty twenty one, winning a championship as
a head coach in twenty eleven with the Mavericks. Also

(37:13):
won the championship in eighty six with the Celtics. But
Carlisle is a good story, sort of a retread. They're
in Indiana and delivering, delivering the Indiana Pacers to the
Eastern Conference Finals, where again they await the winner of
tonight's matchup between New York and Boston at seven o'clock

(37:38):
on TNT. Also tonight, Minnesota, the Timberwolves have a chance
to advance. They're up three games to win over Golden
State nine thirty on TNT. If I had to guess,
given the situation in Boston losing their star player Jason

(38:01):
Tatum for the year and probably for about it a year,
I don't know how long it takes to come back
from that, but man, when you get the old Achilles injury,
it can be a while. I wouldn't I wouldn't expect
the Celtics have a great seating next year in the
NBA playoffs unless he gets back about mid season Anyway,

(38:25):
I think New York gets it done and I think
Minnesota gets it done. I think both of those teams
advanced tonight. Now last night, the other thing that we
saw in the series that was two to two, Denver
falls one twelve one oh five to Oklahoma City. But

(38:45):
Nicole Yogis was phenomenal. I mean, showed why he's considered
by something to be the best player on the planet.
Forty four points, seventeen to twenty five shooting, hit some
crazy shots along the way. But Denver had control of
that game up twelve with five oh seven left in

(39:07):
the third quarter, and Oklahoma City just kept what was
Dory from what's that movie? Uh finding Nemo? Just keep swimming, man,
Oklahoma City just kept swimming. The two teams got into
a crazy back and forth affair for the final two

(39:29):
and a half minutes or so up until about two
minutes left in the game. So the final from about
four fifty to two minutes back and forth, I mean,
just bang, shot for shot, that's all you kept hearing.
It was like Shi Gildess, Alexander bang, Nicole Yogis bang,
and then all of a sudden, the home standing and

(39:53):
number one team in the NBA. They were thirty five
and six in the regular season. At home, Alhoma City
Thunder turned it on, turned it up, and closed it
out with a thirty four point fourth quarter, outscoring Denver
in the fourth thirty four to nineteen. They outscored them

(40:14):
by fifteen points in the fourth quarter. They win it
by seven points at home, and the Oklaanhoma City Thunder
are within one game of the conference championship. They'll face
off with Denver Thursday, eight thirty. That game is going

(40:37):
to be on ESPN. So here we are winding down
in the NBA. Speaking of winding down, our Carolina Hurricanes
don't play tonight, but tomorrow they'll get their chance seven

(40:58):
o'clock on TNT in the NHL Playoffs against Washington. Carolina
up three games to one. Tonight, however, a series tied
at two games apiece Florida and Toronto at seven o'clock
on ESPN, and then Edmonton can close out Vegas. The
Oilers up three games to one over the Golden Nights.

(41:20):
That's a nine to thirty start on ESPN. So there's
your playoff update, hockey and NBA alerts for you. Here
On a Wednesday, afternoon again, gonna continue to be guest
free here on the program and hour number two. Mike,
you have a Gamecockcentral dot Com can't join us today.

(41:41):
He's actually in a meeting and yesterday had a bunch
going on, so I hate we're gonna miss him this week,
but we will battle through in our number two of
the program. Again. You can be a part of this
show if you're a podcast listening. Here's what they tell
me on Android. Podcast Addict is the app on iPhone.

(42:07):
I personally believe the best app is called Overcast for podcasts.
But if you're a podcast listener, be a part of
the show. Hit us up text us eight O three
four five zero zero eighty six. All right, with a
quick break, we'll come back with more an hour number two,
The Show that Shakes the South lank Clympson Sports Dot Rayer,
Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred each time for Clipson Sports

(42:28):
Talk with Lawton Swan. Swanny. It is our number two.

(43:11):
That's drivetime right here on the Show that Shakes the
south Land, Clemson Sports salt On Swan hanging out with
you on a Wednesday afternoon. No, Mike, you've but we're
going guests free here on a Wednesday, as we continue
to roll on towards another weekend which gets us closer
to kick off of the college football campaign. But yesterday

(43:33):
the news came out about Clemson and LSU and their
opening season matchup being under the lights in Clemson's Death Valley,
the Death Valley, if you will, and again ESPN announcing
other contests as well, including the matchup over in Ireland

(43:57):
set for August twenty third between number fourteen Iowa State,
Number eighteen Kansas State, that little Dublin trip if you will.
You know Clipson has played some games in Japan in
the past. Obviously, Florida State made that trek over to

(44:19):
Ireland what a year ago along with Georgia Tech and
a shocking opener for the Knowles, and that shocking opener
never stopped. Then of course dj Willunglowa gets hurt and
you know, the whole season unfolds for the Seminoles as
it did. But by the way, if you keep a
score at home, some breaking news into the CST studios here,

(44:42):
dj Wui Unglowa was an undrafted free agent and we'll
play or at least get a chance to play with
the Los Angeles Chargers. The Seminoles only had two players
selected in the twenty twenty five draft, but the Los
Angeles Chargers made a surprising move signing former Florida State

(45:05):
Clemson Oregon State quarterback dj Uyunglowa. Ungla Ay took to
the field at rookie mini camp yesterday wearing number thirteen.
Charger fans remember that star wide receiver Keenan Allen war
number thirteen during his tenure there from twenty thirteen through

(45:29):
twenty twenty three, and Allen was one of the top
wide receivers ever. But djuyunglow A, drafted by Jim Harball, well,
let me rephrase that, undrafted by Jim Harball, got a
free agent deal with the Chargers. But the Florida State
Seminoles a team that certainly you know this season with

(45:52):
their move to bring down Castellanos from Boston College, I mean,
that's and intriguing pickup because he is much more similar
to what they had with Jordan Travis with his ability

(46:14):
to make plays with his feet. Thomas Castellanos a year
ago led Boston College past Florida State in the second
game of the season, which was another step back for
the Seminoles. While that car was being driven in reverse.
We'll see if they can get that thing in drive

(46:36):
this season. But thinking about that matchup over in Ireland
and what I talked about just a little bit ago
with Clemson and the possibility with the College Football Playoff
of having an additional home game, neutral site games are

(46:56):
something that dabosweeney has certainly embraced. More specifically though, I
think the neutral site games in Charlotte in Atlanta are
the ones that best fit the billing for fans. And
I don't know many people that made the trick to Japan,
and you know, we don't really have games over in

(47:17):
Japan at this point. I don't think in college football.
I don't believe anybody's been over to Japan for a
College Football Playoff game as of late. But I do
think about in wonder just from the standpoint of like

(47:37):
where you would want to go, Like if you had
the chance to go, you know, if Clemson was playing
in Dublin, is that one that you would do? Or
where is the venue? You know, they got the Bahamas Bowl,

(48:01):
they got the bowl game out in Hawaii, and look,
you Tiger fans, you've traveled your rear ends off. I
get that. I mean, you've traveled your rear ends off
when it comes down to the college football playoff, although

(48:21):
those travels have been a little slimmer in recent years
than they were from twenty fifteen to twenty twenty. But
if you start to think about other countries like England's
won where if you could play a game at one
of these old school Premier League soccer club stadiums, you know,

(48:44):
that might be one people want to do. I don't
know of any college football games that have been in Australia,
but a lot of people talk about the pro aspects
of going to visiting Australia and things of that nature. Right,
So where would you want to go? Or if there
was a neutral site in America that you could open

(49:07):
the season, but it had you had to travel a
little bit? Like would you be interested in a neutral
site game? I know we just lined up twelve seasons
with Notre Dame from twenty twenty seven through twenty thirty
nine or whatever, But what if you had a neutral

(49:31):
site game instead of doing a home and home. What
if you did a double neutral two years apart against
like Oregon, but you played it in Jerry's world sort
of halfway across the country for the two schools, or
Southern cal even a little East coast, West Coast, a

(49:55):
little acc big ten action and play it in Jerry's world.
Like we talk a lot about, like where you would
like to go, And certainly this past season presented that
opportunity when Clemson got a chance to play against Texas
in the College Football Playoff, and if your seating had
been a little bit different, maybe you're playing at Ohio State,

(50:20):
right like the College Football Playoff. If there's a huge
benefit at this point with the first round games for
fans of every team in America, everyone, it's that you
can end up playing in December at any good teams venue.

(50:43):
And that's a positive. It's a positive for the sport,
you know. Heck I talked about earlier this week South
Carolina and the fact that the game Cocks. When I
was growing up, the game Cocks were an independent and
cause they were independent, they played, you know, at a

(51:06):
pretty unique schedule. I think that's the fair way to
put it, Game Cocks. If I had to pick one
at random, like I know your eighty four schedule was
a good season, but I'll pick one at random, and
I'll say nineteen eighty two, because I want to I
want to be fair about it. I want to just

(51:26):
pick and choose. But if I take the nineteen eighty
two South Carolina schedule and take a look at who
they played, I mean, it's gonna be a pretty random
smattering of teams. South Carolina opened against Pacific that year.
Then they hosted Richmond, they hosted Duke, they hosted Georgia,

(51:56):
they hosted Cincinnati, and they hosted Furman. Now that's crazy,
but the game Cocks at nineteen eighty two played six
consecutive home games. They then went on the road to LSU,

(52:16):
They went on the road to Raleigh, they hosted Florida State,
they hosted Navy, and they played at Clemson. That's a
pretty good slate, getting yourself, what eight home games and

(52:38):
three away games? Not bad? Not bad schedule in there,
South Carolina. They got wallet by Florida State fifty six
twenty six. But looking at it like that's kind of
the way it was for the game Cocks at that time. Heck,

(53:01):
as the Wu Tang Clan said, let's take it back
to seventy nine. Let's take a look in nineteen seventy
nine at North Carolina versus Western Michigan, versus Duke at
Georgia versus Oklahoma State, versus Old Miss at Notre Dame,

(53:22):
versus INC State at Florida State versus Wake and at
home against Clemson. Hey, how do you like that? Like,
these are teams out of their conference. They played Oklahoma State,
they played Notre Dame. Now they can go to Oklahoma

(53:43):
State that year, but they went to Notre Dame. I mean,
give South Carolina this when they were an independent and
teams were independence back in the day. I mean, you
mixed it up. The game Cocks went to Michigan the
following season. Game Cock fans, you know this, You've you've
ventured around, you ventured around. The game Cocks went to

(54:05):
Michigan and won in ann Arbor seventeen to fourteen in
nineteen eighty. Like, don't don't think that Gamecock fans, especially
a slightly older generation, in between their time leaving the

(54:30):
a SEC and their time arriving in the SEC, don't
think that they didn't have some really cool opportunities to
travel and go to some venues that other you know,
schools didn't go to. They went to Houston, they went
to Virginia Tech. And I'm not trying to pound the

(54:51):
chest about you know, their their team or their success.
I'm talking about venues and where you want to go.
And the College Football Playoff delivers that for people now,
the college football player. The College Football Playoff delivers it.

(55:11):
I mean, but Clemson, Like I say, Clemson, they went
to Japan once for the Barrage Bowl, which was a
bowl game, and then the other time was God, what
was that? What was that other reason that Clemson played
in Japan? Was it something about I can't remember if

(55:33):
it had to do with being on probation or so.
I really don't remember. Timber Ray if he was here,
Timberrey could tell us tomorrow or I could probably just
throw it in the Google machine. But anyway, would you
want to go to Dublin? Would you want to open
up in Dublin again? This year? That's number fourteen, Iowa State,

(55:53):
in number eighteen Kansas State. Then that Thursday, August the
twenty eighth, at five thirty, Boise State in South Florida.
I'll play on ESPN. Then at nine o'clock it'll be
Nebraska and Cincinnati in Kansas City on ESPN. Then Friday

(56:16):
August and twenty ninth at eight o'clock, it'll be Georgia
Tech at Colorado. I mentioned Brent Key earlier. You know,
Colorado's been all the buzz, all the buzz because of
Dion Sanders and his son Shador and Travis Hunter. What

(56:42):
will it look like in Colorado? In twenty twenty five,
Julian Lewis transferred in. Cadence Salter is also there. Julian Lewis, though,
was the former five star prospector I mean still I

(57:03):
guess technically a five star prospect, the number two recruit
in the class. Lewis kind of going the way of
the showbiz factor, announced his commitment to Dion talk about
the connections back to ESPN in some respects on the
Pat McAfee show back in November. He was previously committed

(57:28):
to Southern cal And of course Lewis is the local
product out of Carrollton High School over in Georgia. Six
foot one, one hundred and ninety five pounds, had offers
from pretty much everybody, but Lewis de commits from Southern

(57:51):
Cal and four days later committed to Colorado. And I
have to beg the question, you know, how good is
Colorado gonna be in twenty twenty five, because I think
if we're being honest, as much as I like Deon Sanders,
you know, we talked about LSU earlier, I would say

(58:16):
it's safe to say that Colorado hadn't done much to
make you go, man, what's the what's the what's the
Mark Jackson saying, Mama, there goes that man again. I mean,
year one they went four and eight and one and
eight in the conference. Year two, last season they went

(58:39):
nine to four, seven and two. Deon Sanders during his
time at Colorado was thirteen and twelve and eight and ten. Now,
that program has been a complete disaster for a it

(59:02):
was at one point I would probably argue that there
were some moments in there where Colorado late eighties, early nineties,
it was dare I say, on the cusp of being

(59:22):
one of the best programs in the country. They had
a fantastic rivalry with Nebraska. They had a cool factor
for some reason when I was growing up. But in
recent years, the Colorado football program fell completely off the map,

(59:49):
and Sanders certainly brought attention to it. But they got
a huge opener hosting Georgia Tech next season and they'll
repay that game at in Atlanta, which will be cool because,
of course, I kind of always thought that Deon Sanders
would have been a great fit with Georgia Tech given

(01:00:13):
his ties to both the Atlanta Falcons and the Atlanta Braves,
and I really thought that Dion would resonate with kids
in and around that area, and obviously going to Carrollton
and getting a kid like Julian Lewis right out of
the state of Georgia tells you everything you need to
know about Dion's influence and the ability to go out

(01:00:37):
and get great players, or at least perceived great players.
That's an eight o'clock start on Friday, August twenty ninth,
Georgia Tech on the road at Colorado. Then on Saturday
at noon in Atlanta, Syracuse, and Tennessee on ABC at
three point thirty, it'll be number nine Alabama at Florida State,

(01:01:00):
also on ABC, and the seven thirty is Clemson against
number six LSU, the Tigers number two according to ESPN.
Then on Sunday, the game Cocks number thirteen according to
the Four Letter Network in Atlanta in another athletic kickoff game,
this one against a Virginia Tech and Brent Prye. There's

(01:01:20):
a coach who is going to be on the hot
seat this year at seven thirty that night it'll be
number seven Notre Dame at number twenty one Miami on ABC.
And then on Monday, Labor Day, I believe September the first,
it'll eight o'clock TCU at North Carolina. So that's a
quick look at all the games that are going on

(01:01:42):
that ESPN announced. What was it seven matchups? I believe one, two, three, four, eight, nine, ten.
Excise me ten games that ESPN announced yesterday. But the
big question is and text me if you want where
would you want to play an opener? It could be
across the country, it could be in another country, it

(01:02:05):
could be around the globe. I don't care. But if
you had a chance to have a pretty cool opener,
where would it be? All right? Well, had a quick break.
We talked about President Jim Clements and his daughter Grace.
At Clemson's graduation the other day, Dabo Sweeney was asked
about that moment. You'll hear what Clemson's head coach had
to say when we return Stay with us. Lawton Swan

(01:02:28):
with you on a Wednesday afternoon so earlier this week,
I mentioned that over the weekend, Clemson's graduation ceremony took
place and Jim Clements his daughter Grace, part of the
Clemson Life program there in Tigertown, was graduating during the
Clemson Life they had a little private ceremony, she jumped

(01:02:49):
into his arms and everything went swimmingly. But then during
the big graduation ceremony in front of all the people,
as she jumped into his arms, he lost his balance
and they ended up fall and hitting the ground. But
a really cool moment and really an awesome moment for
the Clemson Life Program because of the publicity that the

(01:03:12):
program received from that. But Dabo Sweeney was on the
ACC Network with Mark Packer and Taylor Tannebaum on Monday
and he was asked about that moment. Here's what Dabo
Sweeney had to say.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
You joined me on April first, and we talked about
Tom Allen and You're like, packing you guys got to
tackle better all that stuff. I'm watching some ceremonies last
week where the president of the institution, President Clemons, so
I consider a friend, goes to the ceremony and his
daughter Grace tackles them on stage and I said, man,

(01:03:51):
Tom Allen has had some kind of impact already. Comes
how about that? And I let me tell you something.
She can help you. She took that right down to
the ground the plumbing. All yeah, some kind of s
That was an amazing scene.

Speaker 4 (01:04:03):
Well listen, so what you didn't what you don't know?
So I actually got to speak at the Clemson Life
graduation that they that they had about a week prior,
and she comes running and I mean she she jumps
up and I mean she uh. President Clements catches her
and it's just perfect. It was just it was so amazing.
So I think I think they were trying to replicate

(01:04:25):
that at the and it just didn't quite stick the
landing the way they wanted. But President Clements, I mean
he he uh, he's also And I don't know if
you saw it, but Today Show had had Beth and
Jim and Amazing Grace as we call her, and I'm
gonna tell you I thought it was If you haven't
seen that segment on the Today Show, it's one of

(01:04:47):
the best things that you you should watch, and I
mean it will just bring joy to you. And Beth
is amazing, you know. President Clements gets a lot of credit,
Like I get a lot of credit, but you know,
he'll be the first want to tell you, like me
about Kathleen Beth Clements is amazing and you know, the
type of mom that she is, the type of father

(01:05:08):
that Jim is, the Clemson Life program and all that
it does. But to see that really awesome moment, because
I mean, I've watched Grace, you know, I met them
in twenty thirteen, so for the last twelve years we've
been doing life together. And to see, you know, just
what Clemson Life has has allowed and how it's equipped

(01:05:30):
Grace and how she's just blossomed at Clemson. It's it's
been awesome, and I know, something that's really meant a
lot to their family and brought a lot of hope
to a lot of other families out there as well.

Speaker 1 (01:05:43):
And so that's kind of my point about that moment.
If Jim Clements and Grace and this is the irony
of the falling down part and getting a lot of
attention if they stick the landing, because Debosweeny said, probably

(01:06:04):
not a lot of people are talking about it, sadly,
but sometimes because of the mistake or the accident, the
happy accident the joy in the moment, you end up
being blessed by the reach of the moment. And for

(01:06:24):
programs like Clemson Life and Carolina Life, et cetera, around
the country and for other schools. And this is again
something that I think you need to recognize other schools
who maybe don't have a Clemson Life style program. Kind

(01:06:47):
of weird how that sounded. A Clemson Lifestyle. No, a
program in the same style as Clemson Life. Easy for
me to say, you might look at that and go, man,
we need to have that kind of impact in our community.
We need to have that kind of impact for our alumni,

(01:07:10):
because that is not something that is what's the right
word that just you just said, well we went to Duke.
We don't have that. You know, we don't have to
deal with that. That's not how this works. You know,

(01:07:33):
disabilities like these individuals are growing up with. They they
are in all parts of society and all educational institutions
and families regardless of race, color, religion, creed, whatever exist

(01:07:55):
and to allow those individuals opportunity and maybe in some way,
shape or form ountain if this is the right word,
but it's independence that's created and for the parents too,

(01:08:17):
write like, I don't know. You know. My thing is,
I never really try to pretend that I know how
somebody else feels when I do not live their life. Never,
but I imagine the pressure and the uncertainty and worry that

(01:08:43):
so many parents have if their child has some sort
of disability. And to have programs where perhaps when your
child was five or six years old, you thought, now, man,
what are we going to do? They're never going to

(01:09:03):
live on their own, and things that certainly cross these
parents' minds. To have that place for those kids to
go and grow and work and learn and celebrate and
become more independent. What a moment to enhance and shine

(01:09:28):
a light on the Clemson Life Program and all programs
like it so that more people step into leadership roles
at other universities to make sure that more children are
getting the opportunities that Grace Clements and other kids receive.
That's the beauty of that moment and what happened on

(01:09:51):
stage for Jim Clements and the entire Clemson Life Program
and his daughter, Amazing Grace. Quick break. We'll come back
with more on a Wednesday afternoon. The show that Shakes
to south Land Clemson Sports Talk All right real quick.
You know, we mentioned not that long ago about Clemson's

(01:10:15):
gymnastics coach Amy Smith being fired after just two seasons.
That news came out in mid April. Well, in less
than a month, Clemson has found their new head coach
is plural. Justin Howell and his wife, Elizabeth Crandall Howell

(01:10:36):
were named co head coaches of Clemson Gymnastics and what
appears to be quite a coup, quite frankly landing these
two as they come to Clemson from Cal, a fellow
ACC school. But more on that in a minute. Former

(01:10:57):
YCGA National Coaches of the Year and ACC Coaches of
the Year, Justin Howell and Elizabeth Crandell Howell were named
co ed coaches of Clemson's gymnastics program. Graham Nef announced
the Board of Trustees Compensation Committee approved the measure on Monday.
The husband and wife duo has spent the last thirteen

(01:11:19):
seasons building CAL into a national contender, serving the past
seven seasons as co head coaches. And that's the one
thing that Graham Nef said about this, it would be
a national search and he got the Atlantic Coast Conference
Coaches of the Year. In the statement, Nef said, We've

(01:11:41):
gotten to see the program that Justin and Liz built
up close during their first season in the ACC, and
the consistent excellence they have achieved speaks for itself. In
addition to many competitive accomplishments, their reputation has been praised
time and again. In our research, we emphasize finding a
coaching staff with experience in some of the biggest moments

(01:12:03):
and who could continue the trajectory of our program. We
feel we had that in Justin and Liz. We were
impressed with their technical ability, approach to operations, plan for
development in corporation of help, wellness and recovery, and attention
to detail. We are excited to see them get to
work now. In their time at CAL, the Howels, Justin

(01:12:32):
and Elizabeth Crandy Howell had plenty of success. They coached
the Golden Bears to twelve consecutive NC Double A tournament appearances.
They finished as NC Double A runners up in twenty
twenty four. CAL earned top twenty finishes every year since

(01:12:53):
twenty thirteen, seven top ten final rankings since twenty sixteen,
and in addition to be a named the AEC Coaches
of the Year, they led CAL to a perfect A
perfect conference record in a regular season title in just
the first year. With their first year in the ACC,

(01:13:22):
Justin Howell said in a statement, I'd like to thank
President Clements and Athletic Director of Graham Neft for this
unbelievable opportunity to lead the Clemson gymnastics program. The world
class resources and support for Clemson student athletes to succeed
in the classroom and on the competition floor are incredible.
Liz and are excited to bring our passion energy in
pursuit of excellence to Tigertown. Clemson is truly a special place.

(01:13:44):
Go Tigers. His wife said, I cannot express how excited
we are to come to Tigertown. The passion and commitment
to excellence that runs through Clemson was clear from the
moment we arrived on campus. The abundance of resources have
been carefully and meticulously curated to support the student athletes
in every pursuit sports, academics, career and leadership development and

(01:14:06):
to utilize those skills to go out into the world
as leaders. It was, however, the people that we met
in Clemson that confirmed that this is the place we
need to be. Justin and I believe that Clemson gymnastis
can become one of the top programs in the nation,
and we cannot wait to get out there and work.
So you go out and you make a splash, and

(01:14:31):
I'm not sure you could have made a bigger splash
quite frankly. I mean, I think when you make a
change and you cut ties with Amy Smith, the question
certainly becomes, well, if you want to have a national program,
where do you go, who do you bring in? How
does that work? And to manage to bring in one

(01:14:57):
of the top coaching do in college gymnastics shake your
head at the job that this Clemson Tiger stat or
this Clipson Tiger Athletic Athletics administration do. That's a huge pickup,

(01:15:23):
just monstrous. Speaking of some of the other programs outside
of Clemson football, you know the big ticket items. Clemson
will host the ACC Rowing Championships on Friday and Saturday.
They've got a full schedule, a full slate of rowing

(01:15:44):
events that will take place on Lake Hartwell. The Tigers
of the twenty second ranked rowing program. Other notable names
in the field, Stanford's the top rowing program in the country,
cal is number nine, Syracuse eleven, Virginia thirteen Duke eighteen
in North Carolina twenty four again, that's Friday and Saturday.

(01:16:07):
Clemson Rowing hosting Track and Field heads to Winston Salem
for the ACC Outdoor Championships. That gets going tomorrow Thursday
at noon noon to nine twenty. You can watch that
on the ACC Network Extra if you're into that. That

(01:16:28):
last Thursday through Saturday, all of which will be aired
on the ACC Network Extra. Clempson is coming off a
successful regular season. The Clemson women looked at Security Conference
Championship sweep as they were crowned the twenty twenty five
ACC Indoor champions earlier this year, and the clips of

(01:16:50):
men look to be crowned ACC Outdoor champions. They last
during that title back in twenty twenty two to twenty
twenty three, and it wasn't all that long ago we
were talking about basically the distinction of the Clemson track
and field program. So good to see them out there
and having success on the track. All right, looking at

(01:17:11):
the clock, just a few seconds here till I gotta
hit the brake, and then we'll come back and we'll
put a big old show. We'll put a big old
show on the bow. We'll put a big old bow
on the show that Shakes the south Land on a
Wednesday afternoon, Don't Forget Tomorrow. Timbrey joins us right here

(01:17:32):
on Fox Sports Radio fourteen hundred and of course on
the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
What have you done for me lately? It's a fair question.
Just don't lose sight of the bigger picture. Don't forget history.
Looky for us at Clemson. The answer to the questions
what have you done for me lately? And what have
you done? Always are the same.

Speaker 1 (01:18:04):
We win.

Speaker 4 (01:18:46):
Sometime.

Speaker 1 (01:18:51):
Final segment on a Wednesday Clymses Sports Talk, Lawton, Swan.
You know with you eight zero three four five oh
sh zero zero eighty six. That is the text line.
That is the phone line. And again, if you're up
in Tiger Town, stop by our friends at Alumni Hall
on the corner of Campus on College Avenue, right there
in downtown Clemson. It's Alumni Hall online at alumni Hall

(01:19:16):
dot com. Check out their officially licensed Clemson merchandise. Don't
forget when you're shopping in store. Clemson students, faculty, in
all military get ten percent off at Alumni Hall, just
a stone's throw from Historicriegsfield, right there on the corner right,
you know where Subway and TDS are right there. Yeah,
just across the street Alumni Hall. Don't forget if you

(01:19:37):
shop online and you go through our website clemsonsports slub
dot com to Alumni Hall and you shop around and
buy something, we get a little support from Alumni Hall.
So make sure you're doing that as well. All right.
We talked about Clemson and LSU and that kick off
being set. Well, the ACC Championship game surprise, surprise, surprise,

(01:19:59):
gonna be played on under the lights again up in Charlotte.
That is a good thing about that matchup. I absolutely
love that day in Charlotte. Just so little advantage. My
sister lives in Charlotte. One of my sisters. I shouldn't
say my sister are singular. I have two. One of

(01:20:19):
my sisters lives in Charlotte, and the great thing about
it is she's super close to the stadium. If I
have a regret about it this year is that because
there are so many other games on, there's so much
else going on in the world of college football. Like
we stay at her condo and watch the games and
then we go to the stadium. So I don't get

(01:20:42):
the hobnob and do all that with Tiger faithful there
in Charlotte. I'll be better this year. I'll get out
a little earlier, go hobnob with the fandom. But the
twenty twenty five ACC Football Championship Game will kick off
at eight pm Saturday, December sixth the Bank of America Stadium.

(01:21:04):
Put on your calendar. It'll be a surprise if Clemson
is not there. ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said, the Atlantic
Coast Conference Championship football game will once again be featured
on the biggest stage on Championship Saturday, a primetime game
on the ABC from Bank of America Stadium offers another
national stage to showcase ACC football. We look forward to

(01:21:25):
an exciting season filled with elite competition, incredible talent, and
memorable moments across the conference. It is the sixteenth time
in eighteen excuse me, the sixteenth time in seventeen years
that the ACC Championship Game has been played in primetime
since its inception in two thousand and five, until the
fourteen different teams have competed in the ACC Championship Game.

(01:21:50):
The winner of the Conference championship has advanced to the
national Championship game or competed in the College Fotball Playoff
nine in the last twelve seasons, including both of the
two teams who participated last year, with both Clemson and
SMU making it into the College Football Playoff. Hey, look,

(01:22:12):
I'm all about it, man. I like that Saturday Like
I feel like if you were playing in like the
noon kickoff, which I believe might typically be, I feel
like that's the Big twelve. I feel like it's the
Big twelve. Maybe it's the Big Ten. Either way, it's
just like, man, what a waste of a day. Like

(01:22:34):
I like the ability to kind of chill out, watch
game one, watch game two, see playoff spots getting filled
and have all of that done in front of me.
And I can't remember this year. I think maybe the
Big Ten game went had to have with the a
SEC Championship. I feel like it was the Big Ten,
but maybe not. I think the SEC Championship also sometimes

(01:22:57):
runs up against it. But you know, it's all well
and good. A primetime spot is a prime time spot,
and Clemson will be in the prime time to kick
off the season. They'll have a chance to be in
the prime time in the ACC championship game. Now, you know,
if I get my way, if I'm the commissioner of
college football, and again there are conversations about making changes

(01:23:23):
to the college football playoff. But you know, if if
it's up to me, if it's up to me, I'd
make the conference championship games exactly. Not that I would
put the top four teams in each conference in the

(01:23:45):
conference championships. Will be a battle between number two and
number three to determine who else is in the college
football Playoff. That's what I would do anyway. Look, we'll
keep our eyes on it. All always going to be rumored,
but CBS is reporting that there is a possibility that

(01:24:06):
there could be changes this year to the college football
playoff format. So we will discuss that with you tomorrow.
Because I only got thirty seconds left here again, follow
us on Twitter, follow us on TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, We
are where you are, and we are the show that

(01:24:29):
shakes the South Lane. Now I'm going to get out
here a little bit earlier than usual because I was
listening to the show yesterday and I got talked over
at the end. So I'm going to get out right
now until tomorrow. As always, y'all take care now and
go Tigers.
