Speaker 1 (00:01):
It's Mike Jones and we have Lincoln Park business to
talk about with miss Emily Armstrong and Phoenix. Guys, thanks
for taking some time today. Really appreciate it. Thanks for
having us absolutely and I want to talk about Phoenix
with golf with you and Emily, your prius and your
your big green alien sunglasses.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
But first with the band.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Man, I don't know how long it's been going on
for How you guys kept all of this a secret
and everything?

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Tell us all of it? How did this come together? Emily?
You joining Lincoln Park?

Speaker 3 (00:32):
I just kept showing up. Yeah, And I've said it
many times. You just can't. You don't feed stray cats,
you know, leave Phoenix.

Speaker 1 (00:43):
Like you guys have the first conversations. How did you know?
Like Emily was someone we want to audition, We want
to bring her in and see what's up, Like, how
did that come come together?

Speaker 4 (00:55):
It was never really an audition in that in like
the true sense of the word. We were just trying
to figure ourselves out and we were inviting other people
to be a part of that process and kind of
the feed the stray cat thing. We were feeding a
lot of stray cats, probably, but the ones that at

(01:15):
the end of it, stuck around and that worked and
fit that we loved and that were willing to take
on the assignment was Emily and Colin. So it was
a long kind of stop start process for everybody. I
think that went back even twenty eighteen or nineteen. But

(01:37):
at the end of it, the momentum and everything that
we were doing just really felt like a good fit.

Speaker 1 (01:43):
Did it start, Emily, were you guys doing Lincoln Park
songs or just trying to jam and see what happened there?

Speaker 3 (01:50):
Just jam and write new stuff?

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Yeah, starting fresh and let's do it.

Speaker 3 (01:55):
Well, yeah, it wasn't. It didn't have the LP label
on it. It was just let's get to go and
write some stuff. And then eventually it started to, you know,
slowly but surely, it started to reveal that it had
the LP the Lincoln Park DNA. You know, it was
undeniable at some point where it was just like, whoa,
this is cool, this is fun, you know, And so

(02:16):
it wasn't like an idea to be like we're going
to bring or it's going to be a Lincoln Park album.
It wasn't like that. It was a slow, steady process
and it just it caught fire.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
You know, well, now we have the new album from Zero,
and you guys have been doing a bunch of shows.
You're going to kick off the North American tour soon.
When you guys do that first show, that that live
stream show you did Phoenix, How nervous were you It
had been a couple of years since you did a
live show first off. You know, I'm sure you guys
were just as nervous as Emily was.

Speaker 4 (02:51):
You know, I think I was naively, and thank goodness,
I was naively unaware of how many people would kind
of like pay attention to that, because, you know, everything
everything up to that point was was kind of obviously
a secret, and so we didn't have a true gauge

(03:11):
of how that might land or what it might mean.
We only knew that we wanted to do new stuff,
and we didn't want to have to talk about it first,
Like we didn't want to have to sit around and
describe what does it sound like or what does the
band look like or whatever. We just wanted to be
able to get to a place where we can just
show it, you know, and say here it is, this
is what we're thinking and doing. There you go, you know,

(03:34):
discuss like like we handed over to you. Now you guys,
figure out what you think about it.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Here's enjoy it.

Speaker 4 (03:41):
Yeah, enjoy We're looking back, you know it. So in
that process, yes, I was super out stressed, but as
almost more stressed the next week or whatever when we
played our first show in an arena and it was
actually a show because at that point the launch event,

(04:01):
I think we only played maybe forty minutes of music
and it was pretty like tight and rehearsed and this
is what it is and this is what we want
to be. And then it was suddenly like, oh, now
we're playing a show in an arena with like people
who are now here expecting something, and I was I
think that was a bit more, a lot more anxiety

(04:23):
for me, and thankfully that that went amazingly well. I
continue to be surprised and impressed and thankful for our
fans not only for caring, but how much they care
and how much like they add into that live show
and that's insane, it's so special.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Well, I want to tell everyone guys that, you know,
like we said Lincoln Park, you're starting off the North
America tour soon, you're going to be going to Baltimore
and Philly and Austin and Chicago and LA and Seattle
and everyone could see about tickets at Lincoln Park dot com. Emily,
how about for you, like when I was watching that
live stream that first one, I was like, holy crap,
here we go and you come out as a surprise.

(05:05):
How many songs did it take for you to feel like, Okay,
I'm in this now, like I could let the nerves
go a little bit and let's do this for real.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Or was it just the whole show? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (05:17):
I think the whole show for sure. No, But like
around four songs is usually like the good like, Okay,
I'm settled. Let's just you know, Okay, I'm here now,
you know, let's let's just keep ripping through this.

Speaker 1 (05:34):
You know, now that you guys are fully back in business, Dave,
are you or Phoenix?

Speaker 2 (05:39):
Sorry?

Speaker 4 (05:40):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Which one? Do you care? Either way?

Speaker 4 (05:43):
Nook?

Speaker 2 (05:44):
Okay, I wasn't.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
I was like, I was like, man, I gotta stay
with Phoenix on this, and I I, well, I see
it on the screen here. But anyway, now that you
guys are are going on tour and everything, are you
able to get out to golf courses on those days?

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Off.

Speaker 4 (05:58):
I haven't yet, but granted we haven't been touring during
the time of year when we when we really can. Oh.
On that note, happy Basters Week.

Speaker 2 (06:06):
Yes, Happy Masters Weeks all that celebrate Big week.

Speaker 4 (06:10):
Around our household. But yeah, I mean it's like that's
That's something that's so.

Speaker 5 (06:15):
Fun being on tour is that obviously we have a
night job, so we're looking to fill like a lot
of days and all over the world when it makes sense,
like to play We've I've gotten to play golf in
some crazy, crazy fun spots.

Speaker 3 (06:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (06:28):
So's it's such a good opportunity to just get outside
and disconnect from the craziness of being in a rock tour.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
And it's got some fun now, Emily, I said at
the beginning, I wanted to ask you about your prius.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
Why do you rock an eleven year old prius? Now?
What's I think? That's great? It's twelve. I'm sorry, excuse me.

Speaker 3 (06:52):
Yeah, it's okay, Yeah, she's she's an old one. It
still works. What why rid of it?

Speaker 5 (07:00):
You know?

Speaker 2 (07:01):
I saw the video.

Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah, I saw the video of you out there changing
the tire and and screaming up and down about I
thought that was hilarious though, It's like, you know what, Yes,
she could be one of the biggest stars in the
world right now, but uh, she's still doing the twelve
year old Prius.

Speaker 2 (07:14):
That's great though. I like that.

Speaker 3 (07:15):
I don't even know what video that is. I don't
want to know.

Speaker 2 (07:18):
There was there's one that's out there.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Well, Phoenix, let me ask you then you got I
saw you were at the Mercedes Driving Experience. You got
some connections with some other car companies. Maybe maybe we
can help Emily out.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Yeah, I mean we can. We can get her a newer,
a newer Prius with better tires.

Speaker 3 (07:34):
Or.

Speaker 4 (07:37):
Emily just Emily just keeps it real. She doesn't need
any any fancy car or whatever. The Prius goes from
point A to point B. The horn works all good.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
It gets where you need to go.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
We'll see and.

Speaker 2 (07:54):
Uh we'll talking about new things to you. Guys.

Speaker 1 (07:56):
Also have the new deluxe edition of From Zero that's
going to be coming out, uh May sixteenth. You have
three new songs in there, five live ones too. Do
you have even more stuff that you were like, we
got to whittle this down. We can't put it all
out there right now because I'm sure that had to
be hard to pick just a couple of them.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Sure, yeah, I think yeah. In the process of writing
for us, we always have a lot of stuff that
just doesn't make it, you know, whether we run out
of time or whether it's just not coming together how
we wanted to come together. But with the Deluxe, these
were these were two songs that we knew had a
lot of potential, but we just wanted to have some

(08:38):
more time with that being on chatter and I always
I'm so bad with our own songs. I just call
it fade. What's it called, Emily, but you fade? But
you faid thank you. So those two were those two
were sticking around, you know, at different stages of the

(08:59):
writing of From Zero and Up from the Bottom came
together really quickly, and after we'd already started touring, you know,
and that I think that song carries a lot of
the energy and influence that we were kind of seeing
and feeling from getting back and playing live shows again.
So it was just a process of like, we've got
more things we want to do. From Zero itself is

(09:21):
already a tight, shorter album. It would make sense to
like release some more new fun stuff, and also like
I said it earlier and talking like I'm not getting
I'm not getting any younger, and I want to keep
releasing new music. So let's just get stuff out to
the to the fans, and you know, let them do
with it what they want or what they may. But

(09:44):
I don't want to sit and wait a ton.

Speaker 1 (09:48):
You guys have been away for years now, no more waiting.
Let's let's keep on moving forward. Let's keep the progression going.
And Emily, the last thing I want to ask you,
uh talking about new things coming out, what about those
green alien sunglasses you had on stage a couple of
weeks ago. Will we get those in the Lincoln Park
web store soon enough?

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Or at shows? Can we buy those soon?

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Dude?

Speaker 3 (10:09):
That'd be sick. I mean, I have a tendency of
just trying on everything that's thrown at me or thrown
up on stage, and that just happened to be one
of the things that were thrown And I've worn all
kinds of sunglasses on stage that I love it. I
love it so much. I even bras and sunglasses, dolls, everything,

(10:31):
it's just fun.

Speaker 4 (10:32):
I love it.

Speaker 3 (10:33):
But I should have kept those ones, but I threw
them in the crowd. I thought, you know what, pass
it along.

Speaker 1 (10:38):
There are plenty of people that will make you the
custom Emily Armstrong, Alien Shades. Maybe who knows, we'll keep
a watch out for those. Maybe maybe they could be
the with the deluxe edition of the next album Down.

Speaker 2 (10:50):
The Road or something.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Who knows. There you go, well, Phoenix, Emily. I appreciate
you guys taking some time today. And like I said,
Lincoln Parks starting the North American tour soon you got
gonna be hitting everywhere, uh, through the spring, then coming
back later on this year. Plus from Zero, the deluxe
edition of that is coming out in a couple of weeks. Man,
lots going on now, lots to look forward to. It's
it's great for all of us Linking Park fans. Justice

(11:13):
is great for you guys.

Speaker 2 (11:14):
And thank you so much, thank you, appreciate you guys,
