Speaker 1 (00:00):
This is Big Boy's Neighborhood on demand, Big Boys Neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (00:04):
Beautiful day in the neighborhood. Man, I've been waiting on
this one. Man, how new Mankind. Welcome to the neighborhood. Man,
Thank you for having me. Hey, bro, people got to
slaughter your name. They do a lot. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Yeah, you say your name honey man Kind honeyman Kind
because you.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
Got like a rhyme to it, but you got a
rhythm to it, you know what I'm saying, Hey, Man,
explain the name because I read upon it, But explain
the name.
Speaker 3 (00:26):
It's like it's a combination of words worlds.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
Man.
Speaker 4 (00:29):
It's just honeyman is a deity from my side of
the world, and mankind is the rest of them. So
I kind of just brought things together, man, and it's
just it's stuck.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
How long has that been your name? Because you know,
we go through names sometimes.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
Question. Yeah, I've been through some which I will never
ever say on the radio, really though, man, say it
on video there, look at that camera.
Speaker 4 (00:47):
Alternatives Now, I mean I feel like twenty eighteen, yeah, okay,
and then so at twenty eighteen when you change the name, alrighty.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
Did it feel like, you know, people say a name
is powerful. Did it feel like after you change the
name from the names that you won't share with us,
you know.
Speaker 3 (01:08):
I'll find out what find out?
Speaker 2 (01:12):
So when they called you, you know, but did it
feel like the power came in the name too, like
after that thing started moving in a different direction, I'm
moving different.
Speaker 4 (01:23):
That's a good question, actually, man. Initially I was just
what stuck? You know what I mean, because it just
felt right to me and other folks. And but eventually
I feel like I stepped into that place, into those shoes.
It takes time, I think, and you know, it had
a little bit of weight to it, which I didn't know.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
Initially.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
It was just like, ah, I want to rap, and
I don't want to use my real name, you know.
Speaker 3 (01:45):
I just this is what I fell into. And then
it took.
Speaker 4 (01:49):
It took a little bit trialing there and just kind
of becoming who you're supposed to be, you know, if
you know, like fate or things kind of unfold.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
So yeah, now I feel good.
Speaker 2 (01:59):
It's why when you will say it's written, it sounds
like such a cliche and it sounds so simple and basic.
When people say, oh, it's written, you know, but sometimes
things are really written. And I always tell people, I say,
you know what things could be written. Then at some
point in your life you come to a blank page
and then you write that page for what the rest
of the book look like. You know what I'm saying.
And that comes with anything that you're doing when it
(02:20):
comes to you know, I was going through certain things.
I was tripping. I could have been I could have
led to this road. But I wrote something in my
book that kind of changed my life a little bit.
Y'all continue to hang out with us in the neighborhood,
Big Boys neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
This is big Boy on Demand, Big Boy's neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (02:36):
All righty got the big dog up in Heren new
Mankind High new Mankind in the neighborhood. When do you
become at one point you're a consumer? When do you
think I can? But I think I could.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Do this later.
Speaker 4 (02:51):
I mean so initially it was when you in high school.
I was just just chilling.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
It was fun.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
That was when I started the freestyle and just like
kind of you know, try the word whatever comes to me,
whatever happens.
Speaker 3 (03:04):
That I had, You know a group of people.
Speaker 4 (03:05):
That just used to get hiring freestyle all the time,
and we used to just be in it.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
It was first or were you an outsider.
Speaker 4 (03:13):
I feel like I've always kind of stuck out because
I've you know, but I'm just I'm just that a
mold of a bunch of things. But of course I blended,
like I'm with my people, right, and folks that I
love and I appreciate, So we're we're there, and this
is you know, these guys were hip hop heads, so
everything I kind of picked up a lot of the
sounds and styles was from that circle. But again, it
(03:35):
was just like, oh, I'm alright with this, but this
is cool. But it wasn't like I'm gonna take this,
this is gonna I'm gonna do this right. It just
but I didn't realize how much of an impact it
was having me on me at that time, because you know,
you're really putting it there, I'm really spending time and effort,
you know, crafting the art, and just you know that
those circles that were you know, that was the only
(03:57):
place I really felt alive. Man, you know, everything else
was just so instant right this moves. I mean, it's
funny because even those moments are kind of you know,
you're living for that moment, but till then life has
just been so fleeting.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
Right. How long were you in Texas? About ten years?
Speaker 2 (04:14):
Okay, so that was like kind of the longest stay, yeah,
in your life by far.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
But yeah, it was beautiful.
Speaker 4 (04:20):
I think also my family was also just like there
was the one place that there like we want to
try and stay here for as long as possible.
Speaker 3 (04:26):
That city does something to.
Speaker 2 (04:27):
You, man, yeah, man, And you know, you know what's
wild about that, man, is you say you're freestyling.
Speaker 3 (04:33):
You already know what it is.
Speaker 2 (04:34):
And it's a difference between I like listening to it
and I can create it.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Yeah. Yeah, there's a world of difference to that too,
you know.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
And for some people it's a you know, it's a
hopover you know what I'm saying, and then for some
it's a longer stretch, but it is it is a
different world when you say, man, I think I think
I can do this.
Speaker 4 (04:55):
Yeah, you know, from consuming to pursuing, Right, there's a
there's a that's the difference.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
But then once you build that bridge, this is yours.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Lacrosse, y'all continue to hang out with us in the Neighborhood,
Big Boys Neighborhood.

Speaker 3 (05:15):
Big Boy's Neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
All right, it got the big dog up in here,
Hon new Mankind High new Mankind in the neighborhood. Hey man,
when you do a song like Big Dogs, right the
video for Big Dogs bro that Yeah, that's definitely one
of those where you can't tell the homie just stop buying,
get in, you know, because I've been in a lot
of videos, right and people are like.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Big just come on down and make a cameo.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
You know what I'm saying, What dude, this could have
been your your last video.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
And when we see it, what what is that called
when when people just get in that circle and roll
around on is it a is it called the death trap?
Speaker 3 (05:54):
Or it's called the Well of Death?
Speaker 2 (05:56):
Oh so it really got death in it, So it's
the Well of Death.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yeah, it's called the Well of Death and it is
a very very well known part of like carnivals and
festivals and India, like you'll see it a lot. And yeah, man,
it was it was. I got to shout out to
my brother Bijoy, who's the director. I mean, he's the
one who's.
Speaker 3 (06:20):
Just a same you're still good with him. That's my brother.
Speaker 2 (06:22):
That's crazy because I would not be cool with somebody
that's put me in a video, like.
Speaker 3 (06:26):
How you put it that way?
Speaker 4 (06:27):
Because the thing is like, you know, see here's the thing, right,
that man, when it comes down to it, is the
only person that gets me to a certain degree, right,
gets me to a level which I can which which
they understand the way that I perceive things.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Right.
Speaker 4 (06:42):
He sees it, and he's but you know, it's not
like we're just like when we when he thought of
the idea, he was just like, oh, bro, you got
to get into the car. We just thought it was
a cool idea. But when we're there, he's like, brother,
you might have to do this. You're gonna get inside,
and we're like cool, Like because again it's if he
has that guy's a vision to right, and but the
only person that can also or can make can manifest
(07:05):
that can bring it to life is me, right, Like
that's the balance that we had found for that kind
of a video. It's like because no one else was
going to get into it. You do know, you know,
like because I was asking all the homies around me,
I was like, right, y'all should try this outright at
the side of the mountains.
Speaker 3 (07:22):
After you did it, like try and like you are
the artist, brother, you are so good.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Like yeah, you know what I love about that. The
homies want to be in the VIP section.
Speaker 3 (07:33):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
The always want to do you gotta all access passed with.
The homies want all that when it comes like man,
getting that car, get on a bike, you Like, they're like, Noah, no,
you're the artist.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
I can't I can't blame that. I can't blame them.
Speaker 4 (07:43):
And that's why I like I do what I do, man,
because it's those moments. Like I said, I search for
these moments because that lives with me forever.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
Like they don't get to they don't get to keep that.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
Y'all continue to hang out with us in the neighborhood,
Big boys neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
This is big boy on demand.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
Big boys neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
All right, it got the big dog up in here,
new Mankind high new Mankind in the neighborhood. What do
you tell your parents about this thing called hip hop?
You know what I'm saying, this music thing, because were
they were they go to school, parents, we brought You're
here for opportunities.
Speaker 4 (08:14):
And yeah, yeah, you know what I said, because a
lot of immigrants when you come into the country, that's
they try from the lack of safety and the lack
of security that we come from.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
That's the one thing that's kind of safe. You know.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
It worked for my families. And it's a it's a
it's an easy way to integrate. You learn and you
pick things up and go to school, get a degree,
work and you know, it's like it's works. It's it's
like a foundation. So that's all they know, right, they're
just going to be taying the same thing. And I
was definitely against.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
It, you know. I mean I still did good school, right.
Speaker 4 (08:46):
I think it's just because like if it was, you know,
you got, like I said, you need to adapt. I
got to be able to find a balance. But I
was getting into all sorts of trouble. Yeah, you know,
like every single place. I feel like some of the
reasons why my parents move was because I was.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Liket's get them out of here. Yeah, so you want
to you would have found it.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
Yeah, I found it I owned it, man, Man, I
made sure that there was you know, I kept these
moments right and I just explored. Man, I wanted to
dip my toes and everything.
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Man.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
I remember when I was in Israel, right, they were like, yeah,
you gotta be careful over here, they pickpocket Like what
But like you say, if there's something there, you found it.
You definitely found and you found hip hop though you
know what I'm saying. When you were going to school,
what did your parents want you to be?
Speaker 3 (09:35):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Man, Like, you see the typical you know, brown households
that are like you want to you know, whether it's
an engineer, doctor, doctors, man, and you know whether you
choose to or not. You have these inclinations because of
that that household, right like or the the kind of.
Speaker 3 (09:53):
Headspaces that you're in.
Speaker 4 (09:56):
And uh like me as much apologize to my parents
with how much pain I caused them growing up, But
it's also like I actively try to break out of
all this, right. I was like, just whatever I could
to step out of the house and get into whatever
messy activity I could get into. I was doing that, right,
But all the while, no matter what, there is a
(10:17):
there is a you know, years of being a part
of a system and being part of this environment. So
you know, even when I was done with school, it's
like I tried. I tried to go and tap into things.
I was living very fast here and there. But it's
also like just inherently, it's just like you should attempt
(10:38):
these kind of things.
Speaker 3 (10:38):
That's why I'll never drop on anyone for.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
Trying to work and build a career, you know, because
it's like I understand.
Speaker 2 (10:46):
Y'all continue to hang out with us in the neighborhood,
Big Boys neighborhood.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
This is big Boy on demand, Big Boy's neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (10:52):
Alrighty got the big dog up in here, new Mankind
High new Mankind in the neighborhood. Hey man, when you
do a song like big Dogs, right, when did you
know that record and video was different and it was
taken off.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
There was just like a couple of days after we
had released it. Honestly, it was just moving different. Yeah,
And I think the video did a lot too for that, right.
I Mean the song was fun to show like it's
you know, but it also like, you know, the way
that we also look at is after I drop a song,
and you know, boys drop a song, like I don't
like listening to it because I hear it so much.
Speaker 3 (11:26):
Before I drop it. Oh my god. And then that
song was everywhere.
Speaker 4 (11:31):
Oh my god. Man, I'm just like, how do you
like again, Like I just shut off from everything and
just be like, but I could see that the trajectory.
I'm blessed for it, don't get it wrong, Like just
the trajectory of it was just like, wow, man, this
feels a little different. This is this is kind of cool, right,
and you know people are working.
Speaker 3 (11:48):
With it hell in a major way.
Speaker 4 (11:50):
Yeah, Like because again when we're making and we don't
see it this way at all. In fact, we see
it in a very painful way actually, because the way
that I go about my process, it's like very it's
like a labor of love. And emphasize on the word
of labor, because, like I said, whether you're shooting the video,
it's like whether it was for Big Dogs or even
run it Up, which we just shot, Like, these are
(12:11):
very intense scenarios that we're shooting to put together, right,
and it's like we care about this so and when
we're editing it, you know and shout out to Bijoin
his team, like you know Mayron who's also editing. These
boys like take their time to like figure it out.
And there's so many variations of what we do and
how we feel about it because you know, the chaos
that I have from living like Bijoe also has that,
(12:32):
Like we have these kind of like it's we're deeply
chaotic and flawed individuals and we're like, oh, man, like,
because we care about this. It's like you really pour
to the point of you might maybe depleting certain.
Speaker 3 (12:46):
Things in you. Right, so when it's about.
Speaker 4 (12:48):
To release, we're like, oh my god, man, yeah, man,
like damn, like this is a lot.
Speaker 3 (12:54):
And then we finally put it out. It's like, Okay,
this is how the world sees it.
Speaker 4 (12:58):
I mean, so even if they tell me, oh yeah
this is great, this is cool, this is like you
don't know what I've been through.
Speaker 2 (13:03):
Right right right right, Like yeah, I'm already exhausted, already.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
You're partying right now? Yeah, dude, I'm just like dumb
money in the club tears. You're not having a good time.
Speaker 2 (13:14):
Is it crazy that music has taken you to places
and will continue to take you to places that your
lifestyle just growing up took you to as a as
a child.
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Well that's good, yeah, yeah, yeah yeah, because you know,
I found myself in place again. I've tried not to
travel from this. Now all of a sudden, I'm traveling
around the world. Man, I am forever jet lacked. I
cannot get a break. You know, Like we flew in
from to We just performed at Mexico for the first time.
Speaker 3 (13:41):
Incredible. Isn't that crazy though? Yeah? Incredible?
Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, thank you, my brother, thank you for having man.
I appreciate you, man, and God willing we will see
you again. Absolutely alrighty there it is right there man,

Speaker 3 (14:06):
Man, that Kendrick Lamar album is ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (14:09):
It is so He's extremely, extremely talented, and I always say, man, like,
he puts so much in not that they needed to simplify,
but I'm like, man, that's extremely hard.
Speaker 4 (14:20):
Even in one of his songs where he's like, I'm
not going to give you a double on condrums, couldn't
tell you so it doesn't go over your head, right man.
Speaker 3 (14:27):
That was a double.
Speaker 2 (14:30):
