Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, Lorient and Charlie, Here Crook and Chase in Nashville Chats. Today,
we are celebrating the man who just charted his eighth
number one country hit, Jordan Davis. Little celebration.
Speaker 2 (00:13):
Yeah, the man of the coolest beard in country music. Too. Well,
he likes yours actual well, I know, but his heh man,
he talks about everything he goes through is make his
beard look so nice and shiny.
Speaker 1 (00:23):
And everything, many many products.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
Yeah, that's bad enough about his beard. Hey, we're talking
about music today. Hey, listen, you mentioned his eighth number one.
Here's another cool distinction for you.
Speaker 1 (00:32):
I should say the name of the song too, you should.
I I ain't saying yeah, okay, so I said it.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
You weren't saying it, but now you are, all right,
So I ain't saying it is number one, eighth number one.
Speaker 3 (00:43):
All right.
Speaker 2 (00:44):
Here's something else about number one's cool distinction. Jordan is
the only artist in history, all right, listen to this,
only in history to have two different songs named song
of the Year off one album. Now. The album is
called Bluebird Days, came out a couple of years ago,
and the My Dirt was Song of the Year in
twenty twenty two, and in twenty twenty four next thing
(01:06):
you know was Song of the Year. How cool?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
Is that? Very very cruel? Well, today, of course we
are focusing on the new number one hit I Ain't
saying and Tonie, I loved your question, taking from a
line in the song, wanting to know if Jordan actually
is the take home to Mama kind of guy.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
Oh yeah, he talks about that interview with the parents ooh,
of marrying their daughter. Okay, that's coming up, but we
start with a little travel talk. Lorien had just returned
from Cruz and Jordan had just returned from the land
down yonder or Australia. Here we go, so.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
Got a little something in common. We've both been out
of the country. I was doing a big country event
in the Bahamas and we were surrounded by this big
group of people from the Philippines who were singing country
music country roads at the top of their lungs. Really
Mountain Mama, take me Home, country road. They were Philippino Yes, wow,
(02:05):
cute as can be and it was thrilling to see them.
No country music. I cannot imagine you in Australia and
seeing people singing your songs along with you that just
must be a feeling that can't be massed.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
It was pretty wild.
Speaker 4 (02:25):
I mean, you know, I knew that we were big
in Sydney and Melbourne, and like I knew there was
a fan base there, but like nothing like what I saw,
because I mean, you know, we were you know, with Combs.
We did this whole tour last year here in the States,
played stadiums all over the place, and you know, it
was full when we were on stage. But over there,
(02:48):
I mean it was a full stadium when we started,
and like that just like shocked me and them.
Speaker 3 (02:54):
Yeah, I mean it was every song.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Do you feel like a big global star?
Speaker 4 (02:57):
You should, no, family, It's like, you know, I mean
it was. It was shocking.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
But yeah, it feels like there's always you know, you
always want to go over there and do it by yourself,
you know.
Speaker 4 (03:08):
It's yeah, I had a pretty I had a pretty
big superstar playing after me over there.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
You know it's the other side of the world, man.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
Yeah, I know. It is crazy for reaching.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
It is your your song, I'm saying is reaching to
a lot of people as well. There's one line in there,
if I may bring it up, take home to mama
type of guy. Do you remember the first time you
were taking home to mama? And well, let me refresh
your memory. So you're a country music singer.
Speaker 4 (03:37):
Yeah, that was a tough interview right there, you know,
but mainly because we had started dating, and you know,
I was like, yeah, I'm a songwriter in Nashville and
i'm bartend too.
Speaker 3 (03:50):
The kind of just threw that under the.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
You know, so and then she kind of came to
Nashville and saw that, Yeah, oh he has to go
bartend every night.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
That's so that's how he So you're.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
All about liquor and music.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
Wow, this is this is gonna go good.
Speaker 2 (04:03):
This is gonna be Kristen's Wow.
Speaker 3 (04:06):
And that was the thing.
Speaker 4 (04:07):
He's like, you know, talking to you know, my father
in law, who's awesome. I think he knew that I
was super passionate about music. And I do remember though,
whenever I asked him marrier, you know, me and him
went and played golf and it's just me and him,
and then after I was like, hey, man, you have
a beer, and he I could tell he was probably like,
oh gosh, this dude was about to ask marry my daughter.
(04:28):
And so I was like sitting there, you know, and
Kristin is graduating from a great law school, been you know,
great attorney or lawyer at a super well known firm.
Speaker 5 (04:41):
So she could bail you out if exactly okay, and
that's where like so I'm yeah, and so I'm sitting
there and I'm like talking to Billy, and I was.
Speaker 4 (04:51):
Like, you know, man, I I love your daughter, and
you know I'm gonna ask her to marry me. And
I just want you to know, like I'm always gonna
you know, I'm gonna take care of her.
Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'll never forget it. He goes, well, Christen doesn't need
to taking care of I was like.
Speaker 1 (05:09):
The plus one.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
It's kind of like, wait a minute, tell me about
the time you took Kristin home to meet your folks.
Speaker 4 (05:16):
No, god, my mom was like, well done, Jordan, smart,
good answer, yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:23):
Good, uh very yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:26):
Definitely out kicked my coverage on that one.
Speaker 3 (05:27):
So mom was very happy to meet Kristin.
Speaker 1 (05:30):
Now they've already kind of sneaked another song to us
in case you missed it, which so I want to
give you kudos on that because we know so many
songwriters and they have told us over and over again
for years that it is just so difficult to figure
out a new way to write a love song.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
And when I first.
Speaker 1 (05:51):
Started listening to the lyrics, I thought, oh, this is
a nice song about a hometown. No, it's another way
to express a love song that awesome. Was it difficult
to conceptualize this?
Speaker 3 (06:04):
That one was a tough one to write. Yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (06:08):
My brother is on that one with me, my producer Paul,
and Travis Wood, who's a writer on I ain't saying yeah,
And I love Travis and that you talk about a
guy that works hard at songwriting, Travis is He's up
there like he is a grinder and wants every word
to be right. And that's why titles like this Travis
(06:28):
loves And I knew halfway through the Right, I was like, guys,
we got to do this writer.
Speaker 3 (06:33):
We just got to throw it all out and start over.
Speaker 4 (06:35):
And we finally after about nine hours of writings, you know,
I was just like, we finally honed in on it,
and I think we I think we did a great
job on it.
Speaker 3 (06:45):
This song is I just think that, you know, anytime
you get to flip.
Speaker 4 (06:48):
A hook like that and kind of have some wordplay
on it, is really cool, and I thought we did
this some pretty well.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
I've asked songwriters this before. How do you know when
the song's finished? How'd you know? This one was?
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (07:00):
You know, we got together one day, got the verse
and I was like, all right, well that's easy.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
Like the verse is easy.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
Uh, you know, the course is where you kind of
got to make it pay off.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
So we wrote the course all day. I mean, it
took us goal lee, but.
Speaker 4 (07:14):
When it comes, when it comes easy, then you're like, okay,
that's it. Like there's nothing else we could say better. Yeah,
you just kind of feel like, all right, this is it,
this is it.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
Do you ever fuel up? Like, okay, we got to
have a shot of whiskey, just something to kind of
break us through that wall.
Speaker 4 (07:27):
You know. I wish I was like that, Like I
know people that are like we'll do writers retreats. We'll
go out and people will be you know, like, hey,
I'm gonna crack a beer. I'm like, that's fine, it's
totally fine.
Speaker 3 (07:38):
I just can't can't.
Speaker 4 (07:39):
I can't, Like I don't know because mainly because like
if I'm want to drink some.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Beer, We're gonna drink some beer.
Speaker 4 (07:46):
Like song I'm trying to like, I'm not trying to
write a song and drink a beer, right.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Right, Yeah, look at you've It's not a secret that
you are releasing and you sing, you have new music.
Of course, you have this single doing well, new album
in the works, and it's primarily to fund the diaper
needs of your family. And you're not the first country star.
I remember I asked John Osborne this. I said, you're
you're changing a diaper. Does it ever enter your mind
(08:14):
while you're changing that diaper that you're an award winning
country music star.
Speaker 1 (08:18):
History making dude in the music business and you're wiping
a bottom.
Speaker 2 (08:23):
And you're staring at god knows what?
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah, now, quite a scene.
Speaker 4 (08:27):
Sometimes it could be quite a scene.
Speaker 3 (08:36):
Yeah. I mean, you know, I've probably told you all this.
Speaker 4 (08:39):
The most humbling thing in our dear friend Thomas Rhett
told me this, and if I've told you all this story,
stop me. But it was like, there's no there's nothing
more humbling than being out on the road, planning to
a sold out show Thursday, Friday and Saturday, having everybody
get you whatever you want, catering your drinks, everything's given
(09:01):
to you, and then you get home on Sunday and
somebody's you have a daughter, be like, Dad, I told
you go to get me some milk.
Speaker 3 (09:08):
Like that is that that's where like, oh, I'm not
I'm just dad. Like I think that's the thing.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
To me is like my kids don't even barely even
listen to my music, So like, to me there, I'm
just dad.
Speaker 1 (09:18):
Why don't you tell your daughter, no, you go get
me some milk.
Speaker 3 (09:21):
Yeah, you get me some milk.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I'm the guy.
Speaker 3 (09:23):
I'm the guy around here.
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Yeah, we'll see ye bottle.
Speaker 3 (09:27):
I will not go.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
That's where your attorney wife comes in, exactly, exactly. You
got to go. Man, you're out of time.
Speaker 3 (09:34):
This is fun everything, man, thank you, thank you.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Okay, Charlie, I just have one thing to say, And
I thought about saying this, but then I decided not to.
I thought, Jordan, at least you're not asking your little
daughter to go get you a beer. At least at
least you're asking her to get the milk.
Speaker 2 (09:53):
Well that's a good point. Can you imagine all these
kids are single digits that we're talking about here, So
he he's got his hands full, and certainly the diapers
are going to be full. So by his music. He
needs the fun. So okay, we have your country covered,
and all the diapers and everything else here. Listen to
