Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, Lorient and Charlie. Here Crook and Chase Nashville chats
with another dynamic duo, the award winning Mattie and tay Man.
Ten years ago, we met them as their career launched. Charlie,
how do you describe this? They They have been through
some of the most dramatic ups and downs in this
(00:21):
business that I can think of, going to number one,
then the record label folds, then getting another deal, and
that doesn't I mean stop and start, stop and start
through it all, all of these challenges, these girls are
just loaded with resilience. They persevered, They're going forward and
(00:41):
this latest project, it's astounding to me the level of songwriting,
their harmonies, the production. The album is Love and Light.
Speaker 2 (00:53):
And let me just say that title right there is
your first hint of what's going on in their worlds,
both personally and professionally. They have really put their hearts
into the songwriting for this album. You talked about that
a moment ago. I mean, they have come forth with
some love, They've got some sass on this thing, and
a load of reality, especially when it comes to realizing
what makes up the complex universe of women everywhere. Okay,
(01:17):
let me just say, I'm ready to learn. Guys everywhere.
I hope you are too. These are strong ladies. They
are Maddy and Tay.
Speaker 1 (01:24):
That's going to get real right off the top here.
Let's go with all the drama the two of you
have been through personally and professionally. Just about anybody, including
me would have crumbled.
Speaker 3 (01:35):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (01:35):
Yeah, you come back with the project that could have
been full of negativity, bitterness, revenge, hatefulness. You flip all
that into love and light. Oh how and why does
that happen?
Speaker 2 (01:49):
Wow?
Speaker 4 (01:49):
You literally just made the whole album make sense. That
is the exact concept of the record. We have just
been through. I mean, everybody in life goes through hard things,
but this business has not really made us want to
stick around. But we do because of our fans, and
also we just love writing music together. And I think
(02:11):
this album is a product of what an unbreakable, resilient
spirit looks like. And it's almost now with life. It's
like we've been through so much. Whatever happens, it's good
luck trying to shake us because we've kind of been
through it all at this point.
Speaker 3 (02:29):
And get creative at this point to throw us something
that we haven't already been Yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:34):
You are survivors, strong survivors. It I feel that go
back ten years ago, ten years since your first CD. Yeah,
so what was the start here?
Speaker 4 (02:43):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (02:45):
What do you think is the biggest difference if you
listen to that album and listen to this one. What
do you think is the biggest difference between the two
of you?
Speaker 4 (02:52):
Confident?
Speaker 3 (02:53):
Confidence, for sure, And I think that there's an awareness
just coming from falling on our butts and literally picking
ourselves back up and being the ones to kind of
look at ourselves in the mirror and give us that
pep talk of like okay, let's keep going. You know,
there is a fan base out there that's wanting our
music and just reminding ourselves of that. But definitely confidence,
(03:13):
self awareness, and like a maturity of just we are
here to stay. We don't have anything to prove, and
that feels like very settling.
Speaker 4 (03:24):
Yeah, it's like we I feel like we've really like
come into our power, if that makes sense, Like just
in a way that if you allow life to just
wreck shop and you just stay down, it's like okay,
that's an option. Or you can be like, God, what
are all these lessons that you're giving me? The opportunity
to learn through hardship, and this whole record, Love and
Light is about that, just just not staying down. It's
(03:48):
all right to fall and screw up and all that stuff,
but it's all about the bounce back, you know well.
Speaker 1 (03:52):
And what I love about it is through all the
love and light you project through these songs, you're not wishy,
washy doormats and songs like Only Jesus Girl and Alabama.
You stand up for yourself and you stand up for
what is right and what you want in your life.
Speaker 4 (04:09):
Yeah, that is so true. That is such a true statement.
And I love that you hear that and Only Jesus
because that was a very healing song for me. It's
a very sassy song, but it was written from a
very hurtful, vulnerable place where there was a person in
my life that was just breaking my heart over and
over again. And me and my husband were talking about
it one night and I was like, I just I
want to love them, but it's almost like they just
(04:30):
disappoint me and hurt me so much that I can't
do it. And he was like, honey, only Jesus is
going to love them like that, And I was like,
my husband says very profound, beautiful things regularly. Thank you
to him for the Allegeime, Sorry, yeah, but yeah, it
came from like a very vulnerable, hurtful place and then
we just turned it into something beautiful, which was cool.
Speaker 2 (04:51):
Let me point this out. I think from a guy's perspective,
when they listen to the CD everything from Only Jesus
to drunk girls in the bathrooms and all that, it's
an education. It's a look into the universe of a woman.
I think guys should listen to it and learn, and
that way we make fewer mistakes moving forward.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
Folks.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yes, that is that is great relationship advice right there
is Listen to this album and you will understand women
on a.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
Deeper love and light album is inside the woman's brain.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Absolutely, that's what I got.
Speaker 1 (05:27):
The three of us want to ask you a question, Charlie.
Speaker 2 (05:29):
Answer is no, Now that's not that's.
Speaker 1 (05:31):
Not an option. Okay, now that you know what drunk
girls do in bathrooms, what we're doing in there, yeah,
what do you think? Are you afraid? Are you grateful
that you know?
Speaker 2 (05:42):
No, they're plotting when they go into the sand in
duos or as a group, you're plotting something.
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Yes, you're plotting to have a great night. You're plotting
the breakup text.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
You're dump some guy out here, or be.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
Like, hey should I should I hit on this guy?
Should I at my shot?
Speaker 3 (06:00):
Let them buy a string?
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Yeah, you're never going to the bathroom for the reason
you should be going is that it well.
Speaker 4 (06:06):
That's like the you know, tiny little percentage of the
time you go in there. It's like you do your business,
wash your hands, get all cute, and then you plot.
Speaker 1 (06:14):
Yeah, he's afraid. So my gosh, with so much you
two have been so busy. I have to know, how
in the world do you co write almost every song
on this album, all but one, right on all but one,
when your wives, your moms, with babies running around, your
(06:36):
touring gosh knows what else? How in the world could
you write such great music with all of that going on?
Speaker 3 (06:44):
Thank you, we just figured it out. I mean, everything
does take two times as long, that's for sure. Our
schedules now are split between touring and being at home
and raising kids. And my daughter asked gymnastics on Mondays
and music class on Wednesdays, and life is very, very busy,
and we don't have as many days as we used
to to write, but when we do right now, it's
(07:06):
very intentional. And I think that's why we're so proud
of this project, because every song there was so much
heart put into it and we didn't overthink anything.
Speaker 1 (07:14):
Yeah, it seems like that what you described may give
you even more of an intensity.
Speaker 4 (07:19):
Oh yeah, because we're not playing around. We have babies
that are relying on us to not only pay the
bills and make money, but also the example that we
want to set for our kids, Like I want my son,
even from as little as one and a half, to
see his mom and be like, Oh, I could chase
a dream, I can work hard, I can make it happen.
And then also like, the resilience that we have is
(07:39):
something I'm so proud of. And you don't build resilience
by everything in your life working out. And there's so
many times where we're like, God, do you even want
us to be in this business?
Speaker 3 (07:47):
Do you?
Speaker 4 (07:47):
I mean, we had this conversation fricking two weeks ago.
We're like, are we supposed to be doing this?
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (07:52):
And that's like a regular occurrence, but I think it's
a good question to ask yourself regularly. Because you want
to know if you're on the right path. But it's
almost like every time we start doubting if we're supposed
to do this, God opens another little door and we're like, yeah,
all right, we'll just keep walking if you just keep
making the way, all right.
Speaker 2 (08:08):
One final observation. Yes, a moment ago, you guys said
thank you in harmony. Oh yeah that's us. And let
me just say the harmonies and the vocals on this
CD are incredible. It's it's almost like two voices coming
out of one person.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
That's me what it feels like. Yeah, yeah, that's how
it feels. On stage two. I love that where sometimes
I'm like, oh, I almost just saying taste part just
because it's in my head.
Speaker 1 (08:35):
Well, and I know all of this music comes from
such a great place, that's such a spiritual place for you,
just so you know this album is going to become
or already is kind of like a sermon for me
when I need a little kick in the behind.
Speaker 4 (08:49):
Oh my gosh, this because those words mean so much,
because that was my dream. I was like, I want
this album to be like when someone's having a crappy
day and you just need a reminder love and light,
or you just need a reminder of down that road
where it's like I'm not going to fall for the
same crap and I'm going to stand up for myself
and and even just deserve, you know, knowing what you're worth.
There's a song on the record called somebody Will that is,
(09:11):
if someone's not treating you right, then you do what
you got to do. But you don't have to tolerate it.
You know.
Speaker 1 (09:15):
It's helping me love Charlie Chase even more.
Speaker 4 (09:18):
Oh, you know what, this album is just perfect. It
it's a it's a relationship helper. It's a soul helper.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Y'all are it's knowledgeable?
Speaker 4 (09:29):
Thank you?
Speaker 1 (09:29):
And harmony? Thank you?
Speaker 4 (09:34):
Yeah? Yeah? Ready all together or just y'all ready?
Speaker 2 (09:41):
Thank you?
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Oh that was good.
Speaker 2 (09:45):
That was good. Counting off didn't help a bit, Charlie.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
It took you a minute to figure out.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
We're all looking at your shad. You go start, no,
you start your point? Oh never much.
Speaker 1 (09:59):
Oh it is fun. They are not sisters, they're just
best friends and they speak in harmony. They complete each
other's thoughts. You know, they do describe themselves Maddie and
Tay as soulmates. You see it in the lives that
they live together with their families and also in their music.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
They've been through a lot, but they are strong ladies.
I have to admit ten years together as Maddie and Tay.
Our congratulations to them on reaching ten years in this industry.
That's quite an accomplishment right there.
Speaker 1 (10:26):
