Lord is also a metaphor for idealizing boyfriends in the
past in an unhealthy way. She says, I also thought
a lot about David and Goliath and this story of power.

Part of making this album was definitely coming to terms
with the fact that there have been a lot of
power dynamics in my life and they're not romantic most
of the time. I've been working on it for a
long time. I've looked up at some man over and
over and I was like, I'm just gonna let it
rip here and say it all, because when I say this,
then I'm free. That's Lord talking about her new song David,
off her album Virgin, which is out now.
