Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on with Mario Lopez. So bro Mario Lopez joining
me now on Zoom. Actress and director Bryce Dallas Howard.
Speaker 2 (00:08):
How are you, Bryce, I'm very good. How are you?
Speaker 1 (00:11):
I'm doing well. Always nice to see you and congratulations.
I love this doc because I'm a big animal lover.
It's out on Disney Plus called Pets, and it's all
about the connection between humans and their pets.
Speaker 2 (00:23):
Right I have three dogs.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
I feel pretty connected. A little closer to one maybe
than the other two, but for the most part, you know,
love them all.
Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, of course, of course. It's like your children.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
You don't You don't have a favorite child, You just
have an easiest child.
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Right, Well, I have.
Speaker 1 (00:37):
I always tell them when they ask me the favorite
I said, it varies. Sometimes you're my favorite, sometimes you're
my favorite.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Depending on you all that, you know what I mean.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
But what kind of pet stories do you follow on
this dock?
Speaker 3 (00:50):
Well, I mean it's it was a really fun experience
because there's kind of three areas that we we explored.
One is that I interviewed kids about their pets. So
kids are sort of the narrators of this documentary. It's
(01:10):
sort of narrated by a Greek chorus of children. Oh
that's cool. Have kind of the greatest hits of my
favorite viral videos that give me dopamine hits, you know
when you watch them with pets.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
And then we profiled.
Speaker 3 (01:28):
A number of pets and their people around the world,
folks in particular who work in the rescue space and
so so yeah, those kind of stories of mutual rescue.
Speaker 1 (01:39):
There what great family viewing right there. And I got
imagine there were some wild pets. Did you did you
have some pretty wild pets in the dock or were
some of those.
Speaker 3 (01:46):
Well, I mean I tried. I tried to be careful
because it's there's a there's sort of a fine line
between you know, you don't like you shouldn't have a
wild pet, you know, like they're like a pet is domesticated,
whereas a wild animal is a wild animal. Now in
the rescue space, you know that if if there's say,
(02:09):
like there's uh Rodney Stops, one of the characters or
one of the guys who we profiled in this he
he rehabilitates birds of prey and uh, and so it's
not uh the relationship is almost like that of a
pet and a human. But the goal is to release
(02:30):
the bird back into the wild. So yeah, so there's
so we do go kind of in that direction. There's pigs,
there's goats, there's sheep, there's you know, obviously the classic
cats and dogs all of that.
Speaker 1 (02:44):
And you grew up with a bunch of different pets,
didn't you, different kinds of pets.
Speaker 3 (02:49):
Yeah, I had kind of My household was the household
where when folks in the neighborhood were like, oh, I.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Don't know, we might need to rehome an animals.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
Like bring him to the outwards like that was sort
of that was sort of the vibe.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Would you have which.
Speaker 3 (03:06):
Lucky Oh my gosh, well I had uh I just
get ready, okay, I'm just gonna put this in here
for a second.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (03:15):
So there were snakes and goats and sheep and chicken
and I'll pack and dogs and cats and you know
and and you know, just lot, lots and lots guinea hens.
Speaker 1 (03:31):
Dang that is you.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
Already say pig? Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's great. Yeah, you
have a little farm out there.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (03:38):
Yeah, yeah, I like the way.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
The Howard roll there.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
And you're also going to be in a new movie
called uh deep Cover right with you and Orlando Bloom.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Yeah, yeah, yeah yeah.
Speaker 3 (03:49):
It's going to be coming out in June. Uh so
that'll be that'll be really fun. That was It's like,
it's about a bunch of improv comedians basically getting sucked
into kind of an underground crime ring, and because they're
improv comedians, they say yes.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
And that sounds hilarious.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
That sounds hilarious.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Oh gods, I want to see that deep Cover. That's great.
Uh And you're gonna be doing some more directing a
movie called All of Her.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
What is that about?
Speaker 2 (04:21):
Oh? That's cool.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
That's in Uh gosh, I mean what I I don't
know what I can reveal or not. We actually we
just got the script in for it. It was fantastic.
It's written by a writer named Sarah Striker, and it's
it's basically all I can say is that one actress
plays multiple parts. Okay, and it's a it's a romantic comedy.
Speaker 1 (04:45):
Fair enough, Okay.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
Whoever that actress is, she's going to be Busy's busy girl,
lots of role.
Speaker 1 (04:52):
I love that you're you're following your dad's footsteps, by
the way, with the acting and the directing. And absolutely
love him and had the pleasure of h he's actually
directed me in some spots and and interviewing throughout the years,
and he's he's just an awesome guy. Obviously he's a
huge fan growing up. And he recently said he'd return
to acting if you cast and directed him in a film.
Any chance you might take him up on that?
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Oh my gosh, I should be so lucky.
Speaker 3 (05:15):
I uh, it's it's really cool because he's always like
acting acting was was his first love and his way
his way into the storytelling business. But pretty young, it
was obvious that you know, he wanted to be a
director and.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
That he was working toward that goal and all of that.
Speaker 3 (05:37):
And over the years I've sort of mentioned to him,
I'm like, god, it would be so great. You know,
how do you think you'd be as an actor, Like
what do you think you'd be? And he and he's like,
you know, I've really I would like to think that
I've gotten to work with all these incredible actors that
maybe maybe I've continued.
Speaker 2 (05:55):
Learning in some way, shape or form.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Like he's so sweet, He's like, you know, like funny
only direct Tom Hanks so many times and not learn
a few things because he's just so great. So so
he's he's always sort of said that to me, like
I would love to be in something you act and
or that's something that you direct.
Speaker 2 (06:12):
But actually he just shot this show the studio.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Yeah, and I was so nervous that I was so
nervous about it that I went with him in person
because I like I knowed like Seth Rogan and stuff.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
We did a movie called fifty to fifty together. Yeah, yeah, and.
Speaker 3 (06:29):
So I was like, Okay, I'm going to go and
like you know, I'm going to be the sort of
the mamager and go and like stay with the talent today.
Speaker 2 (06:39):
And he was so good.
Speaker 3 (06:42):
It was intimidating, like he had he nailed everything, Like
there was no pickup, Like the rehearsal was like, why
weren't we shooting this?
Speaker 2 (06:53):
He was so strong and so I was just I
was really really really really proud of him. Of course
he was.
Speaker 1 (06:59):
He's a legend.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
That's awesome. I can't wait.
Speaker 1 (07:01):
