Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario Lopez. So, girl, Mario Lopez, join me
right now on Zoom coming and host my girl Chelsea Handler.
How are you, Chelsea?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
Hi there, how are you?
Speaker 1 (00:12):
I'm well. I noticed you didn't call me your little
pet name right now. That was for off camera off air.
I like it, and now I expect it every time
off off air. Of course. First off, happy early birthday.
You're about to join me on the fifth level. You
look great, likewise, Mario likewise, thank you very much. How
(00:35):
are you celebrating?
Speaker 2 (00:37):
Well, I mean, I'm just about to start celebrating. So
I'm going to have I think I'm just gonna have
birthday parties all year long. I just filmed my you know,
I do an annual birthday ski video where I ski
in my bathing suit. So I just filmed that in
Sun Valley and it was quite a production. So I'm
excited to release that. And then I'm gonna have a
(00:57):
birthday party in Whistler.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Then I'm going to have one in New York.
Speaker 2 (01:00):
I'm gonna have one in LA They'll have London. I'm
just going to keep rotating and like keep the whole
year is going to be a rotation of parties.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
That's what I'm talking about. It's like a tour, a
birthday tour. Mine was, like Marty gro I did a good,
solid week and then I got tired, because that's what
happens when you hit the level right there. Congrats, you
got a new book coming out on your birthday, as
a matter of fact, called I'll Have What She's having?
What is this one all about? Because I know you've
written quite a few books.
Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yes, this will be my seventh book, and it's coming
out of my fiftieth birthday. Because it is a it
is a road map for women who want to live
out loud and be themselves and not listen to any
of the pressures that society puts on us, to actually
be brave and live your authentic life and to be
(01:45):
a sister to all women. And yeah, it's about my
life and the kind of woman that I wanted to
be when I was growing up and the kind of
woman that I am, and kind of contrasting and comparing
the two, seeing where I fell off the tracks for
certain periods of time, and getting yourself back up and
putting yourself back on the track of becoming the person
(02:07):
that you really want to be. It's that kind of story.
So I'm hoping to inject a ton of optimism into
people when they're, you know, feeling such despair and you know,
and for people who need a little boost of confidence.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
That sounds really empowering and really cool. Are you where
you thought you would be at this point, at least
emotionally psychologically.
Speaker 2 (02:33):
I mean, I don't know that I was thinking as
a young person about where i'd be psychologically or emotionally.
I just kind of had this vision that I wanted
to be this fierce, badass woman that wasn't a follower,
that didn't wasn't fake, you know, that was real, that
would stand up for people called that's all. That's that's
who I am, for sure. But I think my life
in the fact that I have such appreciation for it
(02:56):
now and that I've grown up so much, and that
I've had success for such a nice period of time
to allow me to live in such a comfortable way
and allow me to be a sister to so many
people without having children. All the children in my life
are in that book. People assume I hate children because
I don't have them. I'm like, no, no, it's just
a preference, Like like like I don't I.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
Like playing pizza.
Speaker 2 (03:17):
I don't want Pepperoni not to meet the child.
Speaker 1 (03:19):
Pepperoni Pizza not interested.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
So it's kind of the whole book is just really empowering,
I think, and people always ask me how I'm so
fearless or how I have so much confidence, And this
is the book to explain why, and that it is
an inside job for all of.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Us, right, and I want to be more confident.
Speaker 2 (03:40):
If everyone was confident, we'd be in a much, you know,
less violent world.
Speaker 1 (03:45):
It's true, that's true. Actually, you're exactly right. Well, congrats
on that. And meanwhile, you're going to be continuing your
Vegas residency with some new dates this year. What can
fans expect when they come to your show? What you are?
You talking a lot about your stuff that's going on
in your book.
Speaker 2 (03:59):
Yeah, oh no, Vegas is a stand up show, so
that's a lot different. And I'm there, Yeah, I'm there.
Next date is March twenty. First, my Vegas residency has
been off the hook. It has been so much fun.
I perform once a month, which is exactly how much
time I could stand in Vegas. I don't gamble after
my show. I win every time I've made that casino lucky,
(04:20):
what do you play? And I'm performing the casinos, the Cosmo,
and then I perform inside the Chelsea Theater. I mean
it's just than that.
Speaker 1 (04:28):
That's right. I do remember you perform side in Chelsea.
When you gamble, what do you play? Watchack okay and
you win? Huh yeah?
Speaker 2 (04:35):
I win, And I whomever I'm gambling with I give
money to because I'm like, listen, this is on me
and everyone wins. Every time I've done I think four
or five shows so far as as part of my residency,
and every time we walk away with money.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
It's just been a gift. What are we playing?
Speaker 2 (04:52):
You want?
Speaker 1 (04:52):
Mario, I'm definitely good at adding fast. I would see
I'm not. I'm gonna be honest with you. Under the table,
I'm like this, I'm like this, I'm really bad. You're
good at math. See, we would be a good We
would be a good good.
Speaker 2 (05:05):
Yeah. Nothing complex.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
You also got a new special coming to Netflix at
the end of March called The Feeling And is this
is this different from what we'd be seeing in Vegas
or I hear you're spilling a lot of tea in
this one.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
This this is different. Everything's different. Yes, this one is
a special called The Feeling. What my show in Vegas
is different. That's a new a new hour of material.
But the Feeling is about is a reference to me
and my young girlfriends and how we got our rocks
off as a young as young children, when we discovered
rubbing our pants up against the corner of a wall.
(05:39):
So I of course took that too far, like I
take everything too far in my life, but it's a
that's what the reference is. It talks in this book.
I talk a lot about my childhood before I spill
all the tea, and my childhood was filled with lots
of the feelings.
Speaker 1 (05:53):
Jersey right, your Jersey girl, Hey, yes, nice nice, and
you also have a weekly podcast. Dear Chelsea, you're essentially
giving out advice right there, right.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
Yes, who doesn't want advice for me? I love dishing
out advice. It's first of all, the best person to
give advice to someone who has no skin in the
game and has no relationship right situation. So yes, I'm like,
that's more of my big sister mess. I love like
pushing somebody in the right direction and being like.
Speaker 1 (06:19):
You don't need that guy.
Speaker 2 (06:20):
Get the hell away from him, or you don't need
that job, quit and start again. Move, do something you know,
be daring.
Speaker 1 (06:26):
See solid advice. I like that. I'd listen to you.
I so appreciate you taking the time. Congratulations on everything,
and listen. Be sure to pick up Chelsea's new book
and catch a comedy special, which is dropping on Netflix
March twenty fifth. Thanks for checking in.
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Thanks Mario, see you soon.
Speaker 1 (06:42):
