Speaker 1 (00:00):
On with Mario Lopez.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Mario Lopez joining right now on Zoom my longtime friend,
the Homie actress and director Melissa Joan Hard.

Speaker 1 (00:10):
How are you, Melissa good?

Speaker 3 (00:13):
What's up you?

Speaker 2 (00:14):
You know, one of the good things about social media
is you may not talk to everyone all the time,
but you get to keep up with them. So I
feel like I know everything that's going on.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
With you and the kids. The boys are getting so big,
so uh yours? I know, I know it's crazy. Congrats.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
You're in a new movie on Lifetime called Killing the Competition.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
Oh looks pretty intense. So do you play a mom
that kidnaps another kid? Is that what happens?

Speaker 3 (00:39):
I can't tell you spoiler alert.

Speaker 1 (00:40):
Come on, because I can see that.

Speaker 4 (00:43):
So I'm a mom who has a young girl and uh,
like a teenage daughter and then a younger son that
she sort of ignores. And uh, it's really fun because
I get to dive into all the nuance of like
middle aged mom, like your kids are getting older and
kind of get your life's getting away.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
Do you want to you know, you know you can.

Speaker 4 (01:02):
See down the road further than they can see, and
you want the best for them, So you're trying to
direct their path, but you're also like, you know, you
want them to do what you couldn't do, all those
sort of things, and then you know, you get a
little you get a little too caught up in it
and snap. You know, you know you've snapped before, right, Maria.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
All the time? Daily? Is this a true story?

Speaker 4 (01:24):
It's based on a true story? It is that it's crazy.
It's like, oh, wait, are you still there? Did I
lose you?

Speaker 3 (01:31):
We're pushing buttons on my things are popping up, and
so I.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Yeah, it's based on true story. I don't know if
I want to tell you the true story, but a
lot of people from the area seem to know this story.
So but loosely based on a true story. So we
took some liberties with it, and I mean we had
some fun. Like I'm a little nervous about people seeing
this movie because.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
We took I mean it So here's the thing.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
At first, I didn't want to be in this movie
because I was like, we've seen it, like we've seen
the Cheerleader Mom.

Speaker 3 (02:01):
That gets a little too you.

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Know, involved, right, But the more we played with it
and manipulated it a little bit and had some fun
with it.

Speaker 3 (02:12):
I mean, the truth.

Speaker 4 (02:13):
Is, like the actual story is stranger than fiction.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Like what happens is absolutely absurd.

Speaker 4 (02:19):
So with the director's help, we've kind of like leaned
into it to make it like I don't know, like
we were kind of taking some some of the like
itania like bizarreness of.

Speaker 1 (02:29):
It all, if that makes sense, okay.

Speaker 4 (02:32):
And it could land somewhere between like shark Nado or Iton,
like you know, I don't know where it's gonna like
all right, audience is gonna love it, hate it, or
love to hate it, like I'm not really sure, but
I love that we took some chances. I say some
ridiculous stuff, I do some ridiculous stuff, and though it's
based on a true story, so that's what kind of
keeps it grounded.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
Nice nice, all right, We'll look forward to checking that out.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
You're also working on a new Christmas movie for Netflix
called A Merry Little X.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
Miss Are you directing this one? Are you? Are you? Actually?

Speaker 3 (03:03):
I'm producing it and I'm playing a part in it.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Okay, But it's fun just being the producer, being on set,
being the I guess kind of quality control of the story.
I'm sort of like the protector of the story in
a sense. But yes, Alicia Silverstone, it's Oliver Hudson, it's
Jamila Jamill Pearson Fode. It's a really fun cast. We're
having like a blast. And then Oliver Hudson's Sun Wilder

(03:26):
is in it as well, so it's fun to see
father son dynamic.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
That's fun.

Speaker 4 (03:31):
Yeah. So we're on set right now finishing up that
one for later on this year, and it's a fun one.
It's we're in the deepest.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
So remember when we did Holiday and Handcuffs.

Speaker 1 (03:39):
Well, funny that that was Calgary.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
That was Calgary twenty well actually even further north of Calgary,
like more towards Band for Pants.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
Was it was it?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
I know, I know we flew into cal You know,
it's funny that you mentioned that because it's almost twenty
years since we did that movie and people are still
coming up to me.

Speaker 1 (03:58):
It's telling me they love it the favorite.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
It's still everyone's favorite Christmas. I think it's so absurdly funny.
That's what I love funny Christmas movies.

Speaker 1 (04:06):
Because I do too. I like funny Christmas movies. So
so should we do a sequel or what I think
we should do?

Speaker 3 (04:12):
A sequel. Well, how do I handcuff you again?

Speaker 2 (04:14):
I know again I think we you handcuffed me, but
now it's for naughty reasons, not not for you know
what I'm saying.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Maybe you can We're not.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Gonna live out your little fantasy.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Maybe you could.

Speaker 2 (04:27):
Maybe you can handle me that way if I'm handcuffed,
because otherwise I know you couldn't handle me.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
We have to think of it seriously, though, come on
and Jay, get all over.

Speaker 4 (04:34):
If we're married, in our kids and one of our
kids pulls the same ship and we didn't realize.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
That they did it, maybe something like that, or teenagers
we have kids, give a thought.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
I was gonna say, you write it and I'll do it.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
All right, Okay, I'll give it thought. I'll give it thought.
Sounds good, fair enough?

Speaker 3 (04:48):
Together, you and I like.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
We've done a few. I know we work well.

Speaker 2 (04:52):
We got to figure another one out for sure. Are
you are you still in wait? You're in Nashville now right?

Speaker 1 (04:58):
Did you move again?

Speaker 4 (05:00):
No?

Speaker 3 (05:00):
I'm still there?

Speaker 1 (05:01):
Still natural because you moved like five times.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
I remember I saw you reunited too with your teenage
witch aunts Caroline Ray and Beth Broadwick. A while back.
You can't in contact with them though pretty often, right.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yeah, we run into each other.

Speaker 4 (05:16):
I mean we do these comic cons, the nineties cons,
and then we did one Beth and I did one
in London and then the three of us were in
Scotland together, nice long ago October.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
Yeah, are you doing the nineties one coming up?

Speaker 3 (05:31):
No, I'm not gonna make it. I'm still on this.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
Movie and I can't.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I can't make it either. I'm I'm gonna be working
as well. I know while I was looking, I love
that one.

Speaker 3 (05:38):
It's so fun. We see all of our old friends.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
I know that's a good one. That's too bad. I
know they should have those more often. We'll see if
they have.

Speaker 4 (05:44):
That's crazy because I'm like, oh, he played my boyfriend
on this one, and he played my boyfriend, like it'll
be like poor.

Speaker 3 (05:53):
I'm like, oh, there's.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Joey Lawrence and there's Mario and there's this one, and
there's I'm like, oh my gosh, I know Barry Watson,
who I did two Christmas movies with.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
I'm like, holy moly, I'm your favorite. You know I'm
your favorite. I should be Hey, uh hold your hold?
Are the kids?

Speaker 4 (06:07):
Now?

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Nineteen's almost seventeen and twelve.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Wow.

Speaker 1 (06:12):
Wow, they are big and is your oldest.

Speaker 4 (06:13):
If you saw Mason who I had when we did
Holliday and hncuffs, he was like a year old.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
He was exactly a year old who we did Holiday.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
Wow, if you saw him right now, that kid is
a is a beefcake.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Well, I see him all the time, all the good
looking kids.

Speaker 4 (06:26):
Beast right now though he's in a he's in a
cut mode or a I don't know.

Speaker 3 (06:29):
He's in this growth mold mode or his I don't know.
He's like a weightlifter.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
Oh that's cool, pilot but he like yeah, I wasn't say.
Is he studying to be a pilot? Is that what
he wants to do?

Speaker 4 (06:38):
Oh? That's cool an aviation. But he's also like right
now just hitting the gym hard. You'd be so proud.

Speaker 1 (06:44):
Good for you. Oh, I can't wait to see them.

Speaker 4 (06:46):
Dang.

Speaker 1 (06:46):
It goes like quick, you're right.

Speaker 2 (06:48):
Okay, so we're not going to see each other nighties.
Con if I go to Nashville to hit you up,
how can you come to La?

Speaker 3 (06:56):
I don't anymore.

Speaker 1 (06:57):
It's so crazy, you don't at all, huh.
