Speaker 1 (00:07):
Well, call me down a chip off. Looking forward to this.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
But on the boys side, a non conference matchup tonight
on a Tuesday night, Byron Center at Unity Christian Crusader's
Company at thirteen to one, and let's go to the
Montel Construction Coaches Corner. One of our favorites and he
is a legend at Unity Christian and been there for
so long, seen teams and face teams like he's gonna
with the Bulldogs tonight, so we want to hear his
perspective in the coaches corner. Brought to you by Montel
Construction head coach Scott Sodma and coach this is a
(00:32):
great matchup, I know right now. You know teams are
looking to challenge themselves when they can because you got
conference play, which is different this year for everyone of
the Okay Conference. But boy, this matchup with you and
Byron Centter, I'm sure this is one that you and
your kids circled at the start of the year.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
Oh yeah, we you know, watching Byron play this summer
a little bit and knowing the history from last year,
we knew this was going to be a really quality
opponent and we were excited to have them on our schedule,
so and it was a great towards the end of
the season kind of matchup.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Coach, when you look right now at your squad, you
have the lone loss to Hudsonville and the annual get
together with the Salad City Classic around Christmas time, you
guys had won before. That's some great games. Like a
South Christian you've since one and are unbeaten, and okay,
Black Division play.
Speaker 1 (01:18):
Where is your team at.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Right now as we get towards the end of January
on your gauge getting ready for March.
Speaker 3 (01:24):
You know, I think we're right on track. I really do.
I thought we we hit a really good surge right
out at Christmas. I thought we were playing some really
good balls, and then I think we've kind of maintained that.
But like everybody, you know, you get to that middle
of the season kind of a humdrum and type of thing,
and I didn't think our play was always as good
as it probably should have been. But overall, I've been
(01:46):
really plays with this group. It's just a great group
of guys. They work hard, and I still think we
have some growth ahead of us, and I think there
I think by the end of the year will be
right where we want to be coach.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
Only three seniors on this year's roster. But as I
say that, it's not like you're inexperience. You got a
great group of juniors, as you know, a lot of
depth there, and a lot of guys that played for
you last year as sophomore, so this is their second
year on varsity.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
Yeah, you know, we are where you know, I look
at we are young when you lost you know, four
of our top six that were in our you know
rotation last year. But a lot of these sophomore kids,
along with some of our now seniors got playing time
with that group too. So yeah, we have some experience
and we have a year under our belt. It just
they're just in different roles now, right. I mean last
(02:30):
year we had a couple of you know, seniors that
scored a lot of points for us and took a
lot of our shots. Well, now those roles are put
on some of these younger kids.
Speaker 2 (02:39):
Coach Scott Soldzman joined us in the Montel Construction Coaches Corner.
It's brought to you by my home team, Montel Construction.
Fifteen years in the business, five thousand plus projects. Completely
check them out today you can get a free estimate
online at Montel Construction dot com for your next exterior
project and coach. When you look at this team, the
thing that jumps out at me is depth, and there's
a lot of different ways that you can attack. Whether
(03:00):
it's your size down low with guys like Jake Chapman,
great to see him back Max vancouvering as well, or
you can really shoot from outside. I mean, look at
Brogan Surreed this year and what he's done for you guys.
You're leading score at twelve points per game? Is that
the way you kind of look at this team is
with your depth, It's like, Okay, how are teams going
to attack us?
Speaker 1 (03:17):
And then we'll kind of adjust as we go.
Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yeah, we we kind of you know, fell into that
mode now a little bit. Just like the other night
we played spring Lake and they were you know, our
substitution pattern was a little different than it would have
been if we were playing somebody else in the kind
of style of game they played. So I have some
room to just switch things around. I have some guys
come off my bench, like you mintioned mentioned Chapman, who's
(03:41):
been in here, just a really good kid and done
a really nice job for us. So we can go
with a lot of fives. I can go with a
little bit more length, I can go with a shooter.
I can go with a little better defender. So I
have some options which every coach really appreciates.
Speaker 2 (03:54):
Now you look at the situation break down. The Bulldogs
at Byron Center coming in very talented club for Joe Roriguez,
although it might be a little bit different lineup for
them tonight and thus a different style because they're very
good at the gar position, as you know, can get
up and down, can shoot the three like you like
to do. But their big man, Cam Carroll suffered an
injury against Jennison last Friday, and go or no go,
(04:16):
obviously it's a different dynamic.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Win a six nine guys out of there.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Oh yeah, he's obviously a really nice player. He was
pretty scary when I watched him on tape. I thought,
how are we going to stop this kid? Because he
surrounded himself with some really nice guard play. You know,
every one of those kids that are in the starting line,
being a couple that come off the bench, can handle
the ball. They shoot a rock really well. It's a
scary thing. If they're all quick and yeah, I think
(04:41):
they're going to be one, you know, good team and
are going to make a pretty good run when it
comes to tournament time. So yeah, but again, like I've
always told our kids, you know, a wounded dog fights
really hard, and obviously that you know they're gonna miss Carrol,
But at the same time, they've got a lot of
experience and a lot of good players.
Speaker 2 (04:59):
The other thing stands out to me, and you guys
always fall in this category two and you know you've
played South Christian and some other teams, but the fact
of I love teams that aren't afraid to go out
and schedule and their battle tested. When you look at
what Joe Rodriguez the Bulldogs have done, I mean you
know that, yes, they look forward to the Unity Christian matchup,
but it's on the road, it's at Crusader Genesian. It's
gonna be a big crowd. But at the same time,
(05:21):
I mean they've played Mischigan, they played at Cornerstone, I
watched them against Catholic Central, they played against Rockford and
went overtime.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
So it doesn't really phase them, right, Oh.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
No, They've got plenty experience and all those kids have
made a football run, so they have that to fall
back on. You know, Joe's done a great job of
developing a winning program there. Yeah, they're not coming into
our gymnasium afraid of unity, Christian. I know that they're
going to come in pretty confident, and I'm hoping it's
you know, one of those really good, you know, toe
to toe matches as we go throughout the year, because
(05:49):
I think we can both grow from this game.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Coach looking forward to it as always, Thank you so
much for joining us in the coaches corner, and best
eluct to the Crusaders tonight.
Speaker 3 (05:57):
Thank you, look forward to seeing you tonight.

Back there in the home of the Drew Sanders Unity
Christian High and Tuesday additionally, the LFCU High School Basketball
Game of the Week on the boys side Bred Pikin
along with Bunch Gino not court side to night.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
We're up on the track looking down and.
Speaker 2 (08:20):
Just a beautiful setup with a way with this arena
here at Unity Chritian. When they built this new high
school few years ago, one of my favorite gyms to
call game from.
Speaker 1 (08:26):
And I tell you what, when.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
They have district action or they get a packed house
they're playing South Christian or Aland Christian, this place is rocking.
Speaker 8 (08:33):
I just think you didn't pay the bill On time.
That's why we had we got sent up here. But no,
it's a good advantage point. And like you said, I
mean we're used to sitting up high in football season,
so it shouldn't bother us. Yes, it is nice to
be down on the floor and kind of get the
sounds of the game. But you're right, Bradfon's always is
an electric atmosphere. I remember, I mean it was some
(08:54):
time ago, but I when you and I did the
Hudsonville Unity Christian the salad here we had before Christmas, Man,
I mean, you couldn't sit down in this place. And
so when this place is rocking, it is a very
big home court advantage for the Crusaders. And expect still
people starting to come in a big crowd here tonight.
And it's tough because it's a Tuesday, right, It's the
(09:17):
school night, so a lot of people have activities. But
still expect a pretty good crowds. Were very good matchup
all right.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
Thanks to Scott Sodzma, the living Legends I like to
call him. Just keeps going over there on the bench.
He'll be working the towel, I'm sure tonight and I
see it over there He's got a couple of different
editions of that joining us in the Montel Construction Coaches corner.

freestmate today at Montel Construction dot com or by calling
them direct George and the crew at six one six
eight oh five forty nine sixty six Montel Construction. They
are my home team when it comes to excherior projects. Well,
as we count you down to tipoff, you're about four
minutes away from this already laps brought to you by
supporting you. I'm gonna kick it over to Bucchino now
with our vandal On Home Improvement keys to the contest,
(10:05):
and I think one that has to be in bold
and highlighted because of the injury to Cam Carroll is
what style are the Bulldogs gonna play you? And I
saw him against Catholic Central. This is a team on
the perimeter. Their guards are very good. They can really
shoot them behind the art. We're talking like thirty five
percent plus for three different players, and they love to
get out in transition, and they're very good defensively at
(10:26):
being passed. So I think you're gonna see more of
a ninety four foot up and down game, which will
be entertaining for us from the Bulldogs. It's a matter
of community, Christian with their death keep pace.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Well, I mean, did you read my notes before we started?
Is what happened?
Speaker 9 (10:39):
So?
Speaker 1 (10:40):
Uh well, No, the keys of the.
Speaker 8 (10:41):
Game number one for Byron Center will start with them,
just because that's where you went. They're gonna have to
make unity ear in the points. They cannot give up
easy buckets, they cannot get and beat in transition because
like you said, they're operating down Cam Carroll and they're
gonna have the size disadvantage. It's just gonna be that
way with Cam Carroll out of the lineup. So they're
gonna have to make Unity earn their points, which it
means they might have to.
Speaker 1 (11:02):
Do a little pressure. They may have to do a little.
Speaker 8 (11:04):
Three quarter court draped or half court press or something
to slow down unity, get them in the half court
and just make them earn the points, not let them
get out. And then offensively, you said it ninety four
foot game. I think they're gonna have to get out
and run. They're gonna have to make Unity go up
and down with them. And I'm not gonna say try
(11:26):
to tire them out, because Unity has got some depth.
But they're just gonna have to try to make this
a kind of a shootout game, because if they go
toe to toe with Unity and just try to play
a half court game on both sides of the court,
it's not gonna go well. And I think a big
thing you talked about the three point percentage, well, we
see it in the college game with the guy like
(11:47):
Zach Edi when he was at Purdue. The spacing there, well,
you got a really tall guy in the middle, then
you're gonna pay attention to the tall guy, and then
the guards outside are gonna make you pay. That's the
kind of style that Byron Center was able to play
when Cam and Carroll and Jaden Bowman who were in
the label. Now it's just down to Jaydon Bowman, and
so I think also for him, postplay is gonna be important.
(12:07):
If he can get some early points, get scoring down
in the painted area, that's going to open up this
spacing for Byron Center because they're gonna have to get
help down low, so it'll be very interesting if they
do have.
Speaker 1 (12:18):
To get into a half court set.
Speaker 8 (12:19):
I still look for them to try to get Bowman
involved instead of just standing at around the perimeter and
jacking up threes for Unity Christian. Really, the one weakness
I would save for them maybe the thirteen and one
one seventh straight what weaknesses in the have well free
throw percentage. I mean they don't have their highest free
throw percentage amongst the guys that are playing a lot
(12:39):
right now, is barely above seventy five percent.
Speaker 1 (12:42):
Everybody else is below that.
Speaker 8 (12:44):
So if you're Byron Center, if you have to following
them is not the worst thing in the world because
they're not that great at the line. So if it
becomes a free throw shooting battle, that's gonna be to
the edge for Byron Center. Then Unity Christian what they're
gonna want to do, though, of course, we just they're
going to want to exercise that side advantage down low.
Get the ball to the tall guys, let them go
(13:05):
to work on what is now going to be a
little bit more of an undersized front court for Byron Center.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
On the offensive end, talking about Jake Chapman, one of
three seniors on the roster. For Scott Solitzman, it was
just a little over a year ago when he came
back on the court.
Speaker 1 (13:18):
Remember after that cardiac arrest.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
He had the concussion on the hard hit in football
against Coopersville, then came home one day after watching practice
he was out, had the cardiac arrest at home and
then got revived really by his dad and then nine
to eleven and the first responders coming in. Just a
great story. But he is back and ready to go
for his senior season. And Max Vancouver and another guy
who's just a monster as good as he is on
(13:41):
the gridiron, same thing on the basketball court. He brings
it to the defensive end, he brings it to rebound
and everything he does. And so look for those guys
to try to have big nights tonight without the big
fella Camp Carroll in there for Byron Center. There's a

Rub The QT along with bun Gino and Joe are

take a look at your sporting you starting lineups that
I brought to you by Sporting You grandier success since
twenty twelve. They have what you need to look at
your best check out that you're an inventory online. It's
a Sporting You. That's the letter dot com. Well for
Joel Rodriguez. The Bulldogs of Byron center Kean Hinkle as
(16:50):
their leading scorer, senior guard the left. He can really
fill it up, and they had three scores coming in.
Of course no Cam and Carroll tonight you were averaging
double dutus book, you know. But the leader is hankled
the senior shooting forty nine percent from on the arc
at seventeen point nine points per game. He'll be joined
by point guard Isaac Lee, just an all around athlete
we know from the grid iron number three and a
(17:11):
senior landing Conrad will get the start tonight, number four
senior as well, and then we really like if we
saw him in that game against Catholic center back Cornerstone
Cash just spawn eleven points per game of junior shoots
forty two percent from.
Speaker 1 (17:24):
The three, but on limited range.
Speaker 2 (17:27):
He's first on this team and assist with fifty to
the season, coming in second in rebounds at ninety one
with his size, he can be a factor really on
the defensive end as well.
Speaker 8 (17:37):
Yeah, I think the key right now for Fyron Center
Bulldogs is going to be the play of number three
Isaac Lee. We know Jayden Bowman is going to start
at the five for Camden Carroll. Isaac Lee we know
him from the football GRIDIRN, but he's been kind of
a solid role player this year providing center. I think
he's gonna have to step up because he's really the
(17:58):
only other guy is gonna open up the offense.
Speaker 1 (18:01):
Everybody knows about Kinko and Bond.
Speaker 8 (18:03):
And Bowman, but I think Lee has kind of been,
I want to say, underutilized. I think he's just kind
of hidden in the shadows, happy to play a role.
He's gonna have to step up tonight if Byron Utter
wanted to win this game.
Speaker 2 (18:14):
So Bowman will get the start as a bestowner for
the Bulldogs.
Speaker 1 (18:16):
You mentioned with Carroll being out for unity, Christian.
Speaker 2 (18:18):
Scott soones when their home Whites broken shirt, we'll get
one start at the guard.
Speaker 1 (18:22):
He is their leadian.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Score twelve points per game. Kyler Burgess a junior guard.
They start four juniors, he's one of them, but they
all had experience up on the Varsitia sophomores a year ago.
Jack Camiga, a junior forward, Owen vanderwalla junior forward, and
then Max Vancouver and the senior in the middle Unity
Christian wins a tap shirt penetration, kick out Vancouver and
right way, nice extra pass the runner up and good
(18:46):
knocking it down Jack Camiga on the floor to looking
for contact.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
No call they play on.
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Here's Isaac Lee quickly in the front court and Scott
Solds was saying watch that off farm, nice pass down,
little Bowman shot block though, going up to get it
with Camiga against Bowman, this one's gonna be played above
the rim on the glass, Partner tonight with all the
bigs down low on the right block feeding the post.
Here's Camiga around his man goes up, lost the handle.
They say it was clean knock away from the top.
(19:13):
Bot got tangled up. But it'll stay with uny Christian
to our rights.
Speaker 1 (19:17):
We're basketball season.
Speaker 8 (19:18):
We're done with football because I feel like maybe we
got a little hangover. I mean, there's been some pretty
empty contact and the officials letting them play there early.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Big bodies out there. Partner, how many would you guess
right now or at least six to three or taller,
maybe half them at least triple tried no good too
strong by shirt. He can really fill it up rebound
cash his pond. Here's Byron Center wanting to run Hanko.
There're three point specialist fakes to three runner no trickles
out bowman on the offensive glass and finally digging it
out of the air for BC is Conrad.
Speaker 1 (19:48):
But it's step in steel five and er Walt.
Speaker 8 (19:50):
Yeah, I gotta be careful there trapped in the corner
and all he had was the outlet.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Have a telegraph pass is easily picked.
Speaker 2 (19:58):
Off out top with the basketball shirt, Burgess swings it
around down low vancouvering. He loves the contact. We know
that from the football season. Good matchup there with Bot
and beats.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Him that time.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
Good body control. Just went right up on the right
block for nothing. Now score UNTI Christian Lee penetration kickout
left side, bought for three and we know he can
get hot count the triple.
Speaker 8 (20:21):
That's a great pass there, slash in by Lee and
then across a court into the corner and bought with
a hand in the face, just right in front of
the unity defender.
Speaker 1 (20:32):
Vancouver and flashes the free throw line.
Speaker 2 (20:33):
He's fifteen foot or no looking on the offensive last
year to Christian, you want to work, but got a
hand on that one on the steel. Not gonna way
have the pass across the lane from vander Wall. Here
comes Bond in transition, wants across over against Vancouver and
one of the better defenders on the un Christian team.
Now Hanko pulls the trigger from the corner, too strong
off the back iron rebound shirt up ahead. Here's Burgess
(20:54):
battling and yet oh ah, a block against Conrad.
Speaker 1 (20:57):
He's saying, wait a minute, how do I.
Speaker 2 (20:59):
Go down on my and it's on me boy, I
think getting away with one that time was purchased with
the off arm.
Speaker 8 (21:05):
Well and for all the stuff that had been previously unwhistled.
I think that's probably where Conrad is most frustrated.
Speaker 1 (21:13):
But it goes against.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Him Vancouver and out of the mbounds. No air ball
at that time against Conrad from the left block. Here
comes Bond in transition, bot all the way down half hook,
no trying to het over vancouvering mister rim completely invall
tipped out of bounds by bowman. We'll go back to
the way, you know, to your point about big bodies
in football, there are some football players and some winning
(21:36):
football players out there for both teams.
Speaker 8 (21:38):
Yeah, and if you're bot trying to drive that ball
there when coach Rodriguez is telling them that's a great drive.
But we got to call him it down a little bit.
That shot a little bit wild. They've had a good
success running ball, getting it out, but they just have
to get a good shot off of it.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Vancouver and skip pass over to Vanderwall right wing, hands
off the.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
Cameca stepping still. He's so quick. Isaac Lee leahead of.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
The pack, trying to dunk it little bit short, but
puts it up and in and Byron center has their
first lead five to four. Half credit for Isaac. But
that's a great pick. They're red the eyes of the
passer stepped right in front of it. Great read mind
you of his secondary days right, Yeah for me.
Speaker 1 (22:13):
See he just picked it off, saw it coming all
the way.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
Burgess now working against BoNT crosses him over Bomb with
the shot block.
Speaker 1 (22:20):
Here comes lead Oh behind the back to free himself.
Speaker 2 (22:23):
They've got numbers four on three Ank a left wing
looking for Bowman on the skip pass, but getting back
quickly that time nice hustled by Owen, Vanderwall, Community Christian.
Speaker 8 (22:32):
And Lee kind of forced to go with the fancy
moved there, his arm got tied up with the defender
and so all he had left was behind the back
dribble and boy, we had some real contacts here and
they're gonna call a double foul on both teams. Yeah,
Binganwall and one to Bowman.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
Getting tied up there at the top of the key
trying to set a screen to free bond.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
Both of them are like, well he started it. Tell
you what partner.
Speaker 2 (22:56):
I love the pace and I love the athleticism We're
already seen in this one Byron Center leads at four
thirty seven left to go in the opening quarter, and
now coach oatesma gonna go to that depth. Cam, I'm
gonna check out along with Vanderwall In for the Crusaders
is Ery Lanstra, senior forward and the big fellow. What
a story, Jake Chapman making his first appearance as senior center.
(23:17):
They bring him off the bench, but he can be
a factor. At about sixty six on the dribble drive
out front Bowman who can put the ball on the
deck for a big man and a shove gonna be
called against UC.
Speaker 8 (23:27):
Yeah, and now the officials are starting to call the
I mean, you try to let him play, but clearly
if they're gonna let if they let that go all night,
it was just gonna be roller Derby out there. So
they're starting to call a little bit more contact there
that one they get on Lanstra.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
You haven't even got through the halfway point of the
opening quarter and you've already gone roller turny.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
I love it. Ken Hanko.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
His kick can really fill it up, just under eighteen
points per game. One of the best scorers in the area.
Penetrat's kick over leaf for three halfway down but bounces
out big high rebound, hold it above his head.
Speaker 8 (24:00):
Jake Chapman, I think hegel had a step there. I know,
because he's short or going into the land of the trees.
He might have got a little apprehensive, but I thought
he had the defender on his hip.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
He could have gone into the glass for two.
Speaker 9 (24:09):
Unity.
Speaker 2 (24:09):
Christian always a good passing team. They feed it down
low Vancouver and to Chapman cut off. His lee comes
over and he steps on the headline. Good defense by Bowman.
And one of the things I was gonna mention Buck
when you were talking about Bowman having to play well
to that against the Bigs and Uni Christian, he also
with that silly foul has to stay out of foul Trump.
Speaker 8 (24:25):
Yeah, I mean he's going to because he's really the
only true front court post player that they have. I
know they've got Carson Peering who's going to be in
their rotation a little bit, but he clearly does not
have the experience that Bowman does.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
Lee trying to penetrate between two defenders strip that time
now to breakout sure trying to feed it to the
man who knocked it away and airy Lanstra off his
leg though and turnover.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Here comes Bond.
Speaker 2 (24:50):
No look past to Lee, left, corner back to Bond
deep three on the way No left it short up
high for the rebound. Lanstra outlets it to Chapman and
now they get it to a guard's Burgess brings it
across the timeline.
Speaker 1 (25:02):
Five four were stuck on that. Byron said, it leads
to by one.
Speaker 2 (25:05):
As we ticked towards three minutes left to go, and
what's been a fast paced moving first quarter Vancouver, A
little two man gag gets the kickout back to him
left wing. His triple try off the mark, long rebound
out to Hankle. Hinkle one on three, still gonna attack,
goes up and block by Burgess again to your point,
Buck Gina, lots of contact there.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
When he went up as he hits the deck.
Speaker 8 (25:25):
I mean Hinkle tried, tried to put the shoulder in
and get a little bit of the contact, but great
job by Burgess. Stared and knock that away, and God defends,
I thought.
Speaker 2 (25:36):
Right in front of the Uni Christian student section, one
of the best in the business in West Michigan. Now
the inbounds Lee try to get to Hankle left wing,
knocked away by Vancouvering Union. Christian plays great defense, deny, deny, deny,
everywhere those long arms and again going to that depth again,
a whole new wave coming in Vancouvering goes out, Brogan
sure yet to get going in this ball game, goes
(25:56):
out and undid. Christian gonna come back with Cody one
Alters checking in at junior forward and Camga coming back
against Bond, who's got the basketball now between the rains,
gets it to Conrad. Conrad top of the key looking
for some space, goes over the top to Hankle cutting
in the corner. Good defensive close out by Walters. Hankle
trying to get around him, goes baseline. Try to make
(26:18):
the baseline pass A tough one to step in Steel.
I tell you what, Lance has done a great job
defensively for UC. Up ahead Camega for three, no bonap
high for the rebound. Second lead to rebounder on this
team at over ninety for this season, second only to
six ' nine Cam Carroll BoNT Dish is in the
right corner to Lee and league gonna be held.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
Yep, we'll call foul down low by Camega as he
tried to make the move baseline.
Speaker 2 (26:44):
That'll be his first foul number three. Remember now they've
gone to the five fouls per quarter rule. Two fifteen
left to go in the first.
Speaker 8 (26:54):
The NBA rule with the quarters instead of going by half.
So only five file on the board between both teams,
and we all played so far. Just they can't get
shots to go down right now, and Unity very cold
from the field. Bayron centers had a few turnovers, but
Unity's just not being able to get the ball in
the hoop.
Speaker 2 (27:12):
Bot steps through, can't make it point blank with a
left hand, a little half look on the inbounds, mad
at himself for missing that one rebound, Eddie Christian, I
tell you what, both ways, though it's been one and done,
you don't make it. The other team's getting the defensive
board down load. Nice stuff and one and oh boy,
that's file number two on Bowman.
Speaker 1 (27:31):
It just didn't have good position at time.
Speaker 2 (27:32):
Nice job by Vanderwald to see him as he seal
him as he went baseline and got the ad.
Speaker 6 (27:37):
Wall.
Speaker 8 (27:37):
If you're Bowman there, it's it's a little bit of
a silly foul. You're not gonna be able to seal
him off. Just kind of gotta let him go up
there and get the bucket, especially knowing that you're really
the only front court player you're in the rotation.
Speaker 1 (27:51):
Now.
Speaker 8 (27:51):
Peering, who he mentioned, is gonna have to come in,
and Bowman probably gonna have to sit for a pretty
long while before he's able to come back in.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Good job of the big man, Owe band Wall's got
a good touch. Get in the end one knocking down
the free throw.
Speaker 1 (28:03):
Seven to five.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
You need Christian by two, so we roll under two
minutes left to go opening quarters, So Bowman will have
to sit down. Hearing coming in for him his first
appearance tonight for the junior Hanko out top trying to
dribble himself free gets into BoNT, gets into the Pancakes
opposite Isaac Lee. Three ball on the way, no off
the front rim battle for the rebound and able to
(28:24):
corral it was Cody Walters outlet the shirt into the
front court with a dribble. Nice leave that time with
the Lanstrom might have got away with a little walk
down the park. And now as he goes up, stripped
away by Hankle. Here comes BoNT and he was grabbed
as he was bringing to the front boards. They're gonna
get Cody Walters of Unity Christian with the foul. More
(28:45):
substitutions coming in for Joe Rodriguez as checking on the
Easton Whitchers another football player, backup quarterback, but a good
athlete who'll come in and get Landing Conrad a blow
at the one twenty four mark.
Speaker 8 (28:59):
Will you talk about the depth if you didn't Toads
about going to his bench early Byrons there just recently
having their first two substitutions.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
Leon bought out chopped as Byron center gonna try and
spread the floor here and bot just got his pocket
picked that time.
Speaker 1 (29:14):
Fell asleep. Didn't think the big would try to strip
him back the other way.
Speaker 2 (29:17):
Nice job of spinning and using his size, just laying
it up and in over bought was Owen Vanderwalt. So
he's got five quick points. Now back to other way.
Whiters on the penetration tried to leave them for peering
and it was too low knocked away as three guys
surrounded him off of Byron center.
Speaker 1 (29:32):
Will go back to the crusader.
Speaker 8 (29:34):
I mean, that's just a lot of passing in close quarters.
If your whitterer's there. Once you get into the painted area,
you just gotta go up with the shot there.
Speaker 1 (29:41):
I hope you gets some contact.
Speaker 8 (29:43):
Instead, he tried to shove it across to his partner
down there peering and then they just tried to play
catch with it down low and doesn't happen.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
How about Owen vanderwall since he came back back in
off the bench five quick points. It's a four point
lead for you to Christian nine to five final forty
seconds of a quarter.
Speaker 1 (29:59):
Sure you have to get going fakes. The three now
gives it up Camga.
Speaker 2 (30:02):
Down the lanes, putting two defenders and it was like
the Red Sea parted as he got to the block.
Speaker 8 (30:07):
Well, they know that they can't get somebody else in
follow trouble with Bowman on the bench. So it's gonna
be pretty light resistance around the rim for Byron.
Speaker 2 (30:16):
Center Bot against Camigan. Now is they want to spread,
gonna take the final shot, gets it over to Lee
almost told by Walters.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
Lee hop stepped through the paint, try to leave for Whitcher.
Speaker 2 (30:24):
Should have just gone up and Whitchers couldn't control it,
knocked away and Uni Christian goanna tie him up as
Eschenier will stay with the Bulldogs to our left as
Burd just gonna check back in for coach Soldesman with
nine and a half seconds left.
Speaker 8 (30:37):
Yeah, they've gone from trying to knock down shots to
just trying to pass it around and find a really
good look. That's a mark of a team that's been
struggling simply because they haven't been able to put the
ball in the hoop for a while. Now they have
too many passes and getting the defense in tight. I
don't know what the conversation is between coach Todesman and
(30:59):
the officials year.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Now they've got it cleared up. Nine and a half
seconds left to go.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Opening quarter being brought to you by Straight Line Fence,
a fencing Company and Grand Rapids with a Personal Touch.
Speaker 1 (31:08):
More on them in a minute.
Speaker 2 (31:09):
After period now sets a screen, dives towards a basket
league and to throw it way out to bonto final
seven seconds to the quarter of eleven to five, Unity
Christian buy six around sure, BoNT down the lane, strong
move puts it up an end as the buzzer sounds,
and that stops the bleeding for Byron Center after one.
Unity Christian eleven BC seven back with second quarteraction after this,
(31:31):
as you're listening to a Tuesday Night Boys edition of
the LMCU High School Basketball.
Speaker 1 (31:35):
Game of the Week here on ninety six to one
the game.
Speaker 2 (32:46):
I loved seven Hide Christian after one Crusaders was starting
the basketball. That opening border being brought to you by

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Owen Vanderwall tell you what.
Speaker 2 (33:08):
The big fella has been a presence here with no
Cam Carroll and they're feeding him on the right block.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
He gets two more.
Speaker 8 (33:14):
I don't know what coach Tozma told him on the bench,
but it certainly worked. He's had seven quick points after
his return, and they've got that lead back out to
six Byrons Center. They just got to start shooting the ball,
passing ball around a lot and just taking away good
shots or not taking them.
Speaker 2 (33:29):
Yeah, he's got seven of their thirteen. Is now Bonce
dribbles into a double team at the top and he's
kind of nonchalant. Byron Center has been with some of
their passes and drilling and the basketball and trap.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
He got the long arms either at Christians, you're getting
a hand on it.
Speaker 2 (33:44):
They're lucky as the Possessioniro goes back to them with
the Bulldogs, hank go back in.
Speaker 8 (33:50):
Yeah, because Unity took the Possessionario at the start of
the quarter, so Byron Center gets it back.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
On the inbounds Bot there's Hankle trying to free him
and get him going the right wing. Lets it fly
no off the back, heel up high for the rebound. Camega,
one of the talented juniors for coach Soldisman, no look pass,
but he led Vancouvering too far. I think you thought
Max are gonna continue the rim and he kind of
stopped there on the baseline, Sally.
Speaker 8 (34:14):
A quarterback, thinking you're gonna break in, and all of
a sudden they throw the ball and you're just not
there and Vancouvering was uncovered for a long time down
the floor, just didn't get to the hoop and.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Pass goes awrye Isaac Lee with a basketball in the
front court trying to feed it in and coming over
the top was Vandrwal Peering was trying to post him
at the top for maybe a little scissor action.
Speaker 1 (34:35):
And here's what's impressive when you look at it. They
start four juniors.
Speaker 2 (34:38):
To the Crusaders Community Christian all four of those juniors.
Don't let it fool you as that as the second
foul on Vanderwalltzer.
Speaker 1 (34:45):
Keep an eye on that.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
They were all on the varsity a sophomores and got
time if they didn't even start, so it's not like
their first.
Speaker 1 (34:52):
Year varsity players. Oh Lee close to and over and
back there.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Whitchers in their hands off to Hankle, Hank trades download
a Peering. Peering goes baseline, kicks opposite, nowhere to go
shut off by Vanderwald now bought the runner down the
lane too strong with the left.
Speaker 1 (35:07):
Hand rebound cleared by camera.
Speaker 8 (35:09):
Guy tried to fake a little past there. I mean
he was in the lane. Just go up with the ball.
You don't have to fake the pass. Sure they're leading score.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
You had to get coin triple trump the top, no
bottomp high for the rebound. And what's so great about
him being a guard with that size and ability to
go up and snatch rebounds, he can lead the break
right away Ankle.
Speaker 1 (35:27):
Now the rebel penetration.
Speaker 2 (35:29):
Tries to scooping underneath in traffic to pairing knocked away
and stolen. And again you're right in close quarters Byron
Center just overpassing right now making it easy.
Speaker 1 (35:37):
No look past down.
Speaker 2 (35:38):
Low vanderwal How do you lose him? Peering did and
Vanderwall two more from in the paint.
Speaker 8 (35:43):
Six seven guy probably shouldn't go unnoticed and Peering just
lost Rota in there. Thought they were gonna be switching
around and right underneath that time he got it in.
Speaker 2 (35:55):
I love how the guards are really pastering Byron's center too,
and bothering them more then with their quickness and the
ability to get in front, with getting hands in deflections
on passes or knockaways from the dribble. Bot now as
a taste dribble gets it over left side to Hanko
can't free himself with the size of vancouvering.
Speaker 1 (36:12):
Well, if I'm buying, I'm going right at Vanderbal He's
already got two fowls.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Bot pull up jumper from fifteen too strong one and
done again.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Vancouvering up high for the defensive board.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Outlet to the Burgess, up ahead to sir left sides,
skip pass over Camigain for three no off the front
iron battle for the rebound. Guess who Vandwwall spins the
land and got stripped by Bot.
Speaker 1 (36:31):
Otherwise he was going to get two more.
Speaker 2 (36:33):
Number twelve has been a beast out there for Unie Christians.
Speaker 8 (36:36):
Well, that's where you see the absence of not only
Cam Carroll but also Jadon Bowman who's on the bench
with the two quick fouls and now Byron Center going
to go extremely small on the lineup as they take
peering out and lead.
Speaker 2 (36:51):
Yeah, Hinkle in there, Conrad comes in, Whitcher stays in
jumper by Vancouver and it's a two from fifteen inside
the arc on the right baseline. Good and just like that.
Biggest lead of night is ten seventeen to seven in favorite.
Speaker 8 (37:05):
Unity Christian, Connor Jenks coming into the game the first
time in La and Conrad back in back door cut
Bot saves it from going out of bounds.
Speaker 2 (37:13):
Get to the Conrads, get past over Hanko can't pull
the trigger quickly closed out by the taller camera.
Speaker 1 (37:18):
Gun now tries to drive around him off the window.
Speaker 2 (37:21):
No bothered by a shot though with all the size
Vancouver and the rebound. Here's burchase up ahead now nice
pump Bake lays it up and in cameg on the
left side. Boy Unity Christian just putting on a clinic
right now. I think Joe Riant Rodriguez has seen enough.
He wants to time out, Boy Unity Christian. What a
way to start this second quarter? Was eleven seven at
(37:42):
the break Folks eight unanswered. They lead at nineteen to
seven with four to twenty eight left to go here
before halftime, Well.
Speaker 8 (37:48):
And they've gotten, like you said, one and done on
the offense, and then just not getting any rebounding.
Speaker 1 (37:54):
Especially with the lineup that's going to be out there.
Speaker 8 (37:56):
You got a lot of guys that are looking up
at the front line of Unity Christian, so it's really
hard to get boards.
Speaker 1 (38:03):
And then you go the other way and you.
Speaker 8 (38:05):
Do did a great job of getting the ball inside
and exploiting that miss mismatch and at a quick eight
to zero run here through the first half of the
second quarter, and Joe Rodriguez is going to go to
the drawing board and try to get them back on draft.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
Had a whale of a game on the girls side
on Friday night, South Christian at Whaling.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
If you missed it, forty four forty two.
Speaker 2 (38:25):
The Sailors pulling out in all of our Game of
the Week broadcast are now podcast in our podcast section
the Trinity Held Michigan High School Basketball page.
Speaker 1 (38:33):
It's all there. At nine to six to one the
game dot com.
Speaker 2 (38:36):
We had a combined seven to three pointers fifty dollars
donated by MCU to Kids Food Basket for every May
three pointer during our Game of the Week broadcast, So
add three fifty.
Speaker 1 (38:45):
To our total and for the season.
Speaker 2 (38:47):
Now we go over the three thousand market three fifty
going into our action here tonight. Of course we update
you during our Game of the Week broadcast and also
every Thursday night. Don't forget the MC basketball blitz from
six to seven here on ninety six to one the
game talking girls high school basketball, boys high school basketball
in the West Mission area with yours truly and Jason
Hutton nineteen seven on our score. Hinkle, yet do I
(39:12):
believe score this game? Hands off to Whitchers, dribbles down
the lane, kicks opposite to Bond. He's double team almost
lost it, gets it back left wing as we approach four,
and it's left to go here first half, trying to
free himself. Connor Jenks you mentioned in the ball game.
As they go this small lineup now round. Chapman had
just checked in Brinity Christian his hinkle, but again with
(39:33):
the size, can't get the shot off.
Speaker 1 (39:35):
Whitchers with a.
Speaker 2 (39:35):
Half look, knowing the lane, and in Conrad knocks it
out of bounds, and boy, Unity Christian, it's just like
they have a fence up that's about six foot five
in size around that lane.
Speaker 8 (39:46):
So you got defense and they also got a lid
on the rim because Byrons there just cannot buy one
at that time. Conrad with the half hook and it
wasn't a bad shot, got it down the front edge
and just couldn't get the fall.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
So they come back. They rolled the dice with Bowman
here with the two personals with three forty seven lefty
gobuck first half. Got to get something going, got to
get a spark for this Byron Center offense. They were
stuck on five for a while instead at just seven
down twelve, Brogan sure with the basketball, he's really yet
(40:19):
to get going for you to Christian, that's been a
break for Byron Center. If he starts to knock down
some threes, look out came and gut feeds the post
Chapman big fellow down low, and he traveled that time
shuffle de Feaker John by Bowman holding his ground defensively
against the bigger Chapman.
Speaker 8 (40:35):
Well, it was five to four Byron Center pretty much
halfway through the first quarter. Right since then, it's been
all Crusaders.
Speaker 1 (40:44):
Fourteen to two run since then, Brett.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
See if Isaac Leegan get it going, he checks in
the game, He's got his quickness penetrating down the right
side of that lane with the dribble left it for Bob,
but bot against I think a defensive stopper in Max
Vancouver with his size, whoever they put him on.
Speaker 1 (41:02):
Now Hinkle frees himself and yes, a triple.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
They got the switch they wanted with Chapman, and he
just kind of gave him a little jab step, came
back behind the ark and knocked it down.
Speaker 8 (41:10):
Well, and it's basically what we talked on the pregame, Brent.
There is no definitive post presence, so the defenders don't
have to respect the paint.
Speaker 2 (41:18):
And now a couple of force travels with the pressure
by Byron Center. They've been jacked up now after that
time out by Joe Rodriguez to get things going, plus Hinkle.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
Hits the three.
Speaker 2 (41:29):
By the way, that's a nice fifty dollars donation from
Lmsuny Kids Food Basket nineteen to ten. Isaac Lee across
the timeline watched by Burchas, Uni, Christian Sceane and the
Man and Man pressure boone with a high screen.
Speaker 1 (41:39):
Now Conrad on a double screen.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Lee works from right to left, goes back to his
right hand, gets in the pain and then just lost
it with the hands of Cami and Cammig a fill
in the lane right side, Sure leaves it for him
and he puts it up an end.
Speaker 1 (41:50):
Boy. Sure just cleared everybody out that time when he went.
Speaker 8 (41:53):
Airborne again the contact officials letting them play.
Speaker 2 (41:58):
Hankl behind the dribble camp Free himself, Urgas playing some
pretty good d on him and now Lee oh boy,
almost threw it away trying to get it to Conrad.
Conrad now lost his footing as he went down the
lane tied up by came Ga. Things get a little
chippy there as caming had tried to step over him.
(42:18):
Now the official steping in front of Landing Conrad PASSESSIONI
are gonna go in favor of Unity Christians to a
turnover against the Bulldogs.
Speaker 8 (42:28):
Yeah, it looks like Cony I just maybe have stepped
on the defender's foot or something, because he just lost
his balance and went down.
Speaker 1 (42:35):
And knew he was able to tie him up, one.
Speaker 2 (42:38):
Of those tough bulldogs from the grid Iron planning for
Mark Cisco twenty one to ten Unity Christian final two
minutes of the first half five instead of trying to
get some life here and take it into the locker room.
Speaker 1 (42:50):
Any Christian trying to extend their lead out.
Speaker 2 (42:52):
Remember just one loss for the Crusaders to their arrival
in the public school room in Hudsonville in the Salad
City Classic just before Christmas, and that's it.
Speaker 1 (43:01):
Back door caught beautiful.
Speaker 2 (43:03):
Came Ga pump fake Bot went flying off the feet
for Vancouver, and cam GA's had a nice first half.
Speaker 1 (43:08):
Lason up and in.
Speaker 8 (43:10):
Yeah, if you'r Byron Terry just can't afford turnovers at
this point. They've had a lot in the first half.
But that's part of the reason that they're stuck on
the scoreboard. Finally getting to double digits with Hankles three,
but just a lot of turnovers on the offensive. Then
for Byron Center, it's why they're not getting points on
the board.
Speaker 1 (43:28):
Reach in foul up on the board. It's gonna go again.
Speaker 2 (43:31):
Shut his first team second on the dribble penetration by
Lee twenty three to ten. You gotta get it in.
They're close to a five second call. Now he just
Chroz in the back court and Hinkle will go and
retrieve it, bring it across with the bounce the timeline himself.
Watch my shirt under a minute a half left to go.
First half, Stay with us for the whole Jepson Physical
Therapy halftime show. Nice job between the legs, dribble Lee,
(43:54):
but he couldn't finish with the size of Chapman at
the rim. Rebound clear by Union Christian yours came ga
three to sixty spin and he lost the handle.
Speaker 1 (44:00):
Hinkle now up ahead to Lee.
Speaker 2 (44:02):
Lee against Vancouver a nice step through lost his balance.
Good job by Vancouver, and now Bowman tries to kick
it out to Lee does saves it to Conrad. Conrad
with a scoop umping in. Want to scramble there by
Byron centerment they get the.
Speaker 8 (44:15):
Two boy, just a lot of activity for two points,
but your job there by Condrey had to go in
and decisively finally found a gap in the defense for
Unity as they were all spread out chasing the ball around,
and was able to get that one down.
Speaker 2 (44:28):
Boy, if you're Jill rod riguson Byron Center, as poor
as it's been in the first half, you could get
this thing single digits. It's got to be a moral
victory right going in the locker row.
Speaker 8 (44:37):
Unity right now looking like they're gonna try just to
get the last shot up with the way they're approaching
this possession.
Speaker 2 (44:42):
Remember no shot clock in high school basketball in the
state of Michigan, the rule that I hope changes in
the near future. Final twenty two seconds purchase truly out
front Byron Center though, picking up the aggressives. They're looking
for a steal and they've got the guns to do it.
And Ankle Bought and Lee just hounting their defenders well.
Speaker 8 (44:59):
And the big guys for Unity just not really getting
involved standing in the corners so far.
Speaker 2 (45:03):
Caming go ooh bake to three nice cutting back door
Vancouver in for two. Good look by Caming and Albam
gonna let it fly on the spin from three quarter
court and it's well short. And that is the way
the first half ends. Won a finish and one a
second quarter by a Unity Christian. They'll take a thirteen
point lead to the locker room. It's Unity Christian twenty
(45:25):
five Byron Center twelve. Stay with us the Whole Steps
in Physical Therapy halftime show coming up after this on

During a high school wrestling match, Wrestler A executes a
takedown on wrestler B near the edge of the mat.
Wrestler A's foot slash toe remain in contact with the
mat inside the boundary line while all of wrestler b's
body is outside of the boundary. Is the action considered
inbounds and points be awarded for the takedown? Yes, a
(49:03):
match is considered inbounds if at least one point of
contact of either wrestler is inside or on the boundary line.
In this scenario, Wrestler a's foot slash tow in contact
with the mat inside the boundary satisfies this requirement. Therefore,
the takedown is valid and Wrestler A should be awarded
the appropriate points.

not one, but two future Basketball Hall of famers. Dave
de Buscher of Detroit Austin Catholic knocked off Chet Walker
and Benton Harbor seventy one sixty eight to win the title.
(49:42):
That year, de Buscher scored thirty two for Austin, while
Walker had twenty five for the Tigers. It was the
first time the two square it off against one another
before both had long NBA careers.
Speaker 11 (49:52):
They were both.
Speaker 10 (49:53):
Selected in the nineteen sixty two NBA draft to Buscher
by the Pistons and Walker by the Syracuse Nationals. They
were both named the NBA All Rookie Team in nineteen
sixty three. Walker won an NBA title with the Philadelphia
seventy six Ers, while de Buscher won two playing for
the New York Knicks. Walker was inducted into the Naysmith
Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in twenty twelve.
Speaker 11 (50:13):
De Buscher was inducted in nineteen eighty three.
Speaker 10 (50:15):
De Buscher also pitched for the Chicago White Sox for
two seasons, making him one of thirteen to ever play
in both the NBA and Major League Baseball.

Speaker 11 (50:36):
Thanks for joining us. I'm John Ross and we'll be
back next week.
Speaker 1 (50:40):
Neil LUI.
Speaker 14 (50:57):
Join our back inside the nine sixty one the Game studios.
We are at halftime of our LMCU High School boys
basketball game of the Week. Let's do a quick, rapid
radio scoreboard currently on our sister station Big one O
one three FMMSU hoops is in action versus Minnesota game
is just underway. We are just about seven minutes in
(51:18):
MSU number seven. MSU by the way, leeds Minnesota six
to three. In the NFL, the Detroit Lions have hired
Denver Broncos passing game coordinator John Morton as their new
offensive coordinator, sources have told ESPN's Adam Schefter earlier today Morton.
He traveled to Detroit on Monday to meet with the team,
and he signed his contract this morning. Morton has previously
(51:41):
been an offensive coordinator in the NFL with the New
York Jets in twenty seventeen. He was also an offensive
coordinator with USC for two seasons. Morton replaces Ben Johnson,
who was hired by the Chicago Bears as their new
head coach. Once again, we are a halftime of the
LMCU boys basketball game of the week. Let's head back
courtside to Unity Christian as they lead Byron Center twenty
(52:03):
five to twelve. Let's join Brett Pakita and Buck Gino. Guys,
thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (52:08):
Just underway Byron Center with the basketball moving left to
run in a radio tal they start this quarter down
thirteen is the original starting lops back in they're trying
to feed at the bowman a little two man game
with bond knocked away. That tough Unity Christian defense.
Speaker 1 (52:20):
Now down low Vancouver and shot block by Lee. Wow.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Lee showed his athleticism there, bought in transition three on two.
No look past the bowman lays it up and in
and when we get a stoppage and play, we'll recap
the first half scoring Summery Individually brought to you by
MKD Funeralomes. But who knows in a game like this
books you know when that's gonna happen.
Speaker 1 (52:38):
We might be doing the scoring and summary in the
at the third intermission.
Speaker 2 (52:41):
Here Burgess with a basketball to Vancouvering. So it's Burgess Vancouvering.
Camigo was the leading scorer for Unity Christian with ten
Vanderwal down to the block and yet to really get
going as their leading scorer Brogan Shirt coming in at
twelve points per game. Down low Vanderwalt. Good defense by
bowman to wall them off. Ball pop loose. Here's Lee
(53:02):
Lee on the brink right side. Conrad goes baseline up
amongst the trees, and they're gonna get Vancouvery with a
slap on the wrist on the backside when he went up.
Speaker 8 (53:11):
Scoring someway for the first half for Unity Christian the
leading score number ten Jack Camminghat with ten and then
you head Owen Vanderwall with seven and Max Vancouvering with
six Byrons Center. When you score twelve points, the league
scorer doesn't have a ton and that's five for Casher
Spott and then Keyan Hinkle with three. Conrad at the
Lion also had a couple and that was his third
(53:33):
point there. So Mayron Center is gonna have to get
themselves on the board, getting that offensive flow that they
just didn't have in the first half.
Speaker 2 (53:41):
Conrad good rotation knocks them both down. That's big twenty
five to sixteen that Foiul went against Vancouvery in his
first team's first up. This third quarter six forty five
and ticking left to go, Burgess comes off on high
screen with Hinkle on him, Manda ban presser defense by
BC swing past the cameon. Now they feed at the
Charity stripes to Vanderwall, hands off to sured nothing there.
(54:02):
Back to Vanderwall between the rings, Bowman bothering him now
coming over shirt nice crossover, can't free himself from Conrad
down lowing the block. Vanderwaldt just kind of backing his
way in Bon though, hits the deck and strips it
away from up ahead to Lee Lee in transition, Oh
ahead with the right hand. Nice job of using his
body to keep vancouvering off of him.
Speaker 8 (54:21):
Oh, coach shows what parking at Owen vanderwald I mean,
he gets his pocket picked by Bowman.
Speaker 1 (54:27):
Then Bok finishes the job. Just have to be aware.
Speaker 2 (54:30):
Sure now for three? Can he get going from the
left corner? No tipped out of their bond. Up ahead,
Bowman ahead of the pack, lays it up and in.
It's a twenty five twenty ball game. Here come the
Bulldogs and coach soakem' gonna take a time out. Thirty
second time out. We'll keep it right here and remind
you that the scoring somebody in that first half. Being
brought to you by MKD Funeral Homes, every story, every moment,
(54:52):
every day since nineteen thirty seven through four generations.
Speaker 1 (54:56):
That respected favorite tradition continues at MKD.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
Funeral Homes now with location to serve you the nearest
one just down the road here downtown Jamestown serving the
Jamestown Hudson bal area. Find out more at MKD funeral
Home dot com. And with this timeout books, you know,
I want to go to you with second half adjustments here.
Obviously Byron Center has come out and they're pushing the
pace like we thought they would do in the first half.
Speaker 8 (55:17):
It feels like cheating now that we've seen it. I
was just gonna say, I mean, they're gonna have to
get out in transition. They got to convert the buckets, right,
That's what they had to do. In the first half,
they just were able to do it. They weren't getting
to the rim and finishing well. Now in the second half,
clearly they've gotten that message and are able to finish
at the rim.
Speaker 1 (55:37):
And for Unity Christian, what.
Speaker 8 (55:38):
They've got to do is they've got to guard against
giving up a big run, right, they can't let this
team back in the ball game. Well then they just
did that, so kind of throws that out the window.
And if you're Unity Christian right now, you just gotta
kind of settle things down, get back to basics what
was working, which was getting the ball inside, getting a mismatch.
Speaker 2 (55:56):
An at O run to start the second half for
Byron Center has made it twenty five to twelve. Game
down twenty five to twenty. Camia the lead score has
it right elbow, watched by Bond and now just throws
it away.
Speaker 1 (56:07):
Lee gonna run it down.
Speaker 2 (56:08):
Lea ahead of the pack, goes up and he puts
it up and in second breakaway lay up on the
night and it's a one possession game.
Speaker 1 (56:15):
Twenty five twenty two. There's just Camming good thrown into
an empty spot in the floor. Vancouver.
Speaker 8 (56:20):
He thought he was gonna try to get him on
the baseline and then Camming had just wafted it and
Isaac Lee that was the only guy that was available
for the pass.
Speaker 1 (56:27):
And he takes it in.
Speaker 2 (56:28):
Cammi get down low cutting the right, Black turnaround Jumper
got bothered by Bowman one and done rebound Bond as
the Bulldog student section is starting to get into it.
Up ahead Bowman on the right block. Nice job against Vancouver,
went up, got knocked down, No call, Jil Rodriguez, Campa
leave it. They play on and now Hankle trying to
strip Burgess kicks it right side. Camga watched by Conrad
(56:51):
down low vander Wall and he's gonna throw it away
double team.
Speaker 1 (56:53):
Here comes Hankle in transition two on one.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Hanko with a left hand lays it up and in
twenty five twenty four and won a run by the Bulldogs.
Speaker 8 (57:03):
Twelve nothing run to start this quarter for the Bulldogs.
I don't know if there's any paint left in that
locker room that with Joe Rodriganez, but he got the point.
Speaker 1 (57:13):
Through Burgess has it right corner. Watch by Hankle.
Speaker 2 (57:17):
This is kind of more the ball game we expected,
even without gam Carroll the pace now a knock away
from behind. Hankel gets the steal, bombing up ahead fot
realize he doesn't have numbers, but he doesn't care him
take a three zero.
Speaker 1 (57:28):
It would have brought the roof off of this place.
No good off the front rim. I don't know if
that was the shot Jill Rodriguez wanted. With the run
is back to the way.
Speaker 2 (57:36):
Short gets a good looking at three. Lucky for Byron center.
He's off still short.
Speaker 8 (57:40):
I mean really, if he waits there for the defense
to come back, you gotta try to run the ball
if you can, and that time I think he was
okay with his shot.
Speaker 1 (57:49):
They had a rebounder down there. This couldn't get the
shot to fall high double screen for Hankele step back three,
got it.
Speaker 2 (57:57):
Look, God, here come the Bulldogs can't go from the
left wing right in front of the BC bench and
they now have the lead twenty seven to twenty five.
Speaker 1 (58:07):
Lee almost picks that one up four right.
Speaker 8 (58:10):
Anticipation and instincts by Lee, his hand always in the
passing lane that time, knocking it away on the far side.
Boy Byron Center has turned it up defensively, but I
know the offensive part has been impressive, but defensively Unity
has been completely flustered.
Speaker 2 (58:28):
Halfway through this third quarter, Lanster and Walters checking in,
Chapman checking it as well for coach Sojman.
Speaker 1 (58:35):
Uc at thirteen and one. They are just stunned.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
Right now, quiet crowd here at Crusader Gymnasium. Lanst swings
in the corner shirt trying to get to Chapman again.
They throw it away too far, stealing the picket. Pocket
is landing Conrad that time on the post.
Speaker 8 (58:49):
Yeah, Chapman came out to front his defender and then
Lanster just throws it away.
Speaker 2 (58:55):
Hanko behind the back to free himself, float to the lane,
just abuse broken shirt and can go putting on a show.
Speaker 1 (59:01):
Twenty nine to twenty five.
Speaker 8 (59:03):
BC think he was about kicking it out to the corner,
but just had a little bit of mishandled and said
why not and put.
Speaker 2 (59:08):
It in.
Speaker 1 (59:10):
Buck Gino.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
They scored twelve points in two quarters. They've scored seventeen
in this third quarter. We still got two fifty ticking
left to play. Kick out sut for three any answers,
nothing but nylon and let's see if that gets broken.
Going for unity, Christian. That's another fifty dollars donation by
the way from LMC. You're the kid's food basket. Things
are heating up, partner here.
Speaker 8 (59:32):
I'll Byron Cider Falley getting that offensive rhythm. But now
again getting into the half court, it's gonna be tougher
for them to score the basketball with this lineup.
Speaker 1 (59:42):
Lanster watching Hinkle.
Speaker 2 (59:44):
Now UC State in with their reserves, demand a man
pressure defense. It's Walter's need a silly bump too aggressive
that time against Bonds, Coach Shows.
Speaker 1 (59:53):
Was like, no, what are we doing? It's forty feet
from the basket.
Speaker 2 (59:56):
Well and you gotta respect his ball handling, right, I mean,
he likes to set you between the legs and that's
exactly what he did.
Speaker 1 (01:00:02):
He kind of just lured him into that block.
Speaker 2 (01:00:05):
Is now with time outs a thirty second time out
for BC and Joe Rodriguez.
Speaker 1 (01:00:09):
We'll keep it right here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):

(01:00:34):
on ninety six, won the game.
Speaker 1 (01:00:35):
Glad to have you along on this Tuesday night.
Speaker 2 (01:00:37):
And I know it was kind of a slow start
in that first half, but boy, if this third quarter
is an indication.
Speaker 1 (01:00:42):
Of how this one's going to finish. And if you're
just tuning in, no big man for Fire and Center.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
He is out in cam Carroll the six ' nine
prospect going to Bowling Green next year with a knee
injury that he suffered last Friday night against Jennis.
Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
Well.
Speaker 8 (01:00:57):
I think the first half Yers that just kind of
spent the half feelings sire for themselves.
Speaker 1 (01:01:03):
And now they've come out to play. Now Burgess with.
Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
A steel bullet pass too strong, BoNT trying to feed
it to Boneman and now stepping in front Conrad with
the contact.
Speaker 8 (01:01:11):
Is Burgess was on the breakout. It's a good gamble there.
You stop, stop the break you're not in the bonus right.
Actually it was a very good follow. Twenty nine, twenty
eight Bulldogs by one. This is the way it broke
down by quarters fokes you see, by four after one,
eleven to seven, and then they outscored Byron Center fourteen
to five. Is Chapman down low and Bowman had to
(01:01:33):
follow the problem is that's his third and he's the
lone big in there really for BC.
Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
Well, he just doesn't get leverage there.
Speaker 8 (01:01:40):
He gets pushed out by Chapman, obviously the bigger player,
and then he reaches in. I thought they were gonna
get him before the shot. They let that one go,
and then he reaches in again on the way up
for Chapman, So now I was going to get two.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
You see so good at feeding their big players in
the post, and they do a good job of teaching
post position. Chapman got big there and he's already six six,
but got wide and forced Bowman to follow him going
over the top.
Speaker 1 (01:02:06):
First free throw, good by the big man.
Speaker 8 (01:02:08):
I think that's when Bowman's had a couple of files
like that where you just gotta let him have the basketball. Right,
you're not in a good position, they're at the basket.
Speaker 1 (01:02:16):
Just let him have the two.
Speaker 2 (01:02:17):
Chapman missed it around and out rebound Lancetra second chance.
Speaker 1 (01:02:20):
Sure just cannot buy the threes.
Speaker 2 (01:02:22):
Now the outlet almost stolen, a Hinkle comes up with
it for BC, brings it across the interlocking U see
at mid court himself behind the back dribble to free himself. Now,
Burgess always lured him into that one with a block.
Get job by Byron Center being a little smarter now
in the spacing of the floor to give themselves a
chance against the length of unity Christians.
Speaker 8 (01:02:42):
When Hinkles had the ball, he's instead of trying to
distribute it and get rid of it early. He's just
trying to dribble into the traffic and he's drawing a
couple of fouls that way.
Speaker 2 (01:02:50):
Oh nice back door cut. Bowman gets it goes up.
Nobody's filed by Chapman. So he said, you know what
what you did to me on the other end, I'm
gonna do to you too, and got your hand with
the cookie. So Jayden Bowman the transfer from me. He's
Kent Wood coming over, will go to the charity stripe.
He is a senior.
Speaker 8 (01:03:06):
If he catches that clean, he probably is able to
make the easy too, but couldn't handle it and end
up drawing the foleo on Chapman.
Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
And I think those two gentlemen right there. I just
reference Bowman way off on the free throw Chaps. He'll
get one more filed in the active shooting, But I
think Bowman when Carol comes back, we see him come
off the bench, and also Chapman for unity Christian are
the X factors for how far these teams can go
with all the size we see in West Michigan.
Speaker 8 (01:03:29):
Yeah, and Boben, like you said, he's been coming off
the bench and now having to start. This is the
first game he's had to start and had early foul
trouble and still has three fouls.
Speaker 1 (01:03:39):
Able to convert that one.
Speaker 8 (01:03:40):
So it's a new thing for him on this team,
so he's trying to work through it as well.
Speaker 1 (01:03:46):
Fourth team file for Unity Christian this quarter.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
Remember it's fine for quarter, so I'd be aggressive if
I'm Byroen said it the next time. On offense, Bowman
splitting the pair to give the Bulldogs at one point
lead thirty to twenty nine, minute twelve and ticky left
to go. Third quarter. Here's sure reverse pivot with the dribble.
Not a Camic gat Camic has been quiet in this
quarter after a big first half. Nice lead for vancouvering
down the baseline, lays it up again with the right hand.
Speaker 1 (01:04:09):
Great look there by Cam.
Speaker 8 (01:04:11):
A great and late break there by vancouvering to enter
the lane and get the easy two.
Speaker 2 (01:04:15):
You know what I love about Cama guy. He's got
forward size, but he's got guard skills. You can handle
the ball. Good passer, good shooter, good basketball like you
now Lee try to spin away. Nice knock away by
Cody Walters three on two Vancouver and always can just
gone up Leason for Chapping who flies down the lane.
And gets the floating to go. Here comes here dit
Christian right back. They have a three point lead. Now final,
(01:04:37):
thirty seconds.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
To the quarter.
Speaker 8 (01:04:39):
If you're Byron set, you cannot get the ball. If
you're a guard into the lane, you just can't do
it to dead zone. They've turned the ball over multiple
times in there at that time. Lee fell victim. Thirty
three point thirty. Lee's got the basketball. Now final fifteen
seconds left to go. Third quarter comes off a screen
from Bowman right wing. Now Bowman rolls not there, they
(01:04:59):
get it a.
Speaker 2 (01:05:00):
BoNT see if Bot dribbles it down and takes himself
Bullman with the high screen to the left.
Speaker 1 (01:05:04):
BoNT comes to the middle of the floor.
Speaker 2 (01:05:05):
Gets around his man, goes up offensive foul on the
shot attempt. And how about Cony Walters with his defense
here tonight he was demand drawing the charts for coach
Towdesman the Crusaders.
Speaker 8 (01:05:19):
Well, coach Rodriguez for Byron Sader doesn't like it because
where the defender was possessioned. He thought it was pretty low,
right close to the basket. Now there is no semi
circle in high school basketball. Actor is in College of
the Pros. But well he kind of felt like the
defender baited him into that.
Speaker 1 (01:05:36):
A little bit long baseball pass.
Speaker 2 (01:05:39):
Nice catch by Cammiger runner no off the front iron
by the student section would have gone nuts if that
one would have fallen, but it did not, and we've
got a one possession game as we head to the
final eight minutes in this one after three Here at
Crusader Jim Nazim, it's Unity Christian thirty.
Speaker 1 (01:05:56):
Three Byron Center thirty.
Speaker 2 (01:05:58):

another look.
Speaker 1 (01:07:44):
Same guy.
Speaker 8 (01:07:44):
You gotta talk there, especially with your undersized going in
their two guards underneath. That's not where there used to being.
That's kind of what happens sometimes. So Vanderwall back in there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:57):
He gets the ball now strong power, trouble down low
goes up again Bowman. No good job by Bowman not
to file there and he comes out there. I think
he got hit in the face. It's gonna be BC basketball.
So it goes out of bounds and now the official
coming over. Bowman got hitting there. Yeah, he took a
shot right in the nose there. I think it was
just yeah, Vanderwall elbow I think when he went up,
but I mean not adverting like you said, right, he's
(01:08:19):
gonna have to come out.
Speaker 1 (01:08:21):
That's not good for BC.
Speaker 8 (01:08:22):
Well, they'd have to take a time out if they
wanted to keep him in. But I don't think he's
in the shape, then a time out will help. They're
gonna have to take him out of the game.
Speaker 1 (01:08:29):
Carson, Pierre and the junior are gonna have to come in.
Speaker 2 (01:08:32):
He came in earlier of this contest when Bowman had
foul trouble, and we just know Jayden Bowman's all right.
Speaker 1 (01:08:37):
He's getting looked at by the trainer. He's gonna walk.
Speaker 8 (01:08:39):
Maybe I did not see the contact, but from the
way he's acting, he got all of whatever Vanderwald gave
him by accident.
Speaker 2 (01:08:47):
So it's peering out there with Hinkle. Isaac Lee gets
a look from Fredy, knocks it down. Good set up
that time, and you talked about it. Don't travel in
amongst the bigs with the dribble from BC. It's been
a nightmare for them tonight and that time they stayed
in the perimeter and Lee hits a big three with
a fifty dollars donation to kids Food Basket, but ties.
Speaker 1 (01:09:07):
It up at thirty three.
Speaker 8 (01:09:08):
The guards for Unity have not been out deep as
much as they were in the first half, either Cam.
Speaker 2 (01:09:13):
And got I think Bot might have got a piece
of that, yep, but Bot was right there to close
off quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:09:19):
And here comes Fyron center. Try to regain the lead.
Ankle dribbling out top watched by Burgess. Now over the lead.
Speaker 2 (01:09:25):
Good match up here with Vancouver in high screen from
peeroing rolls, but a pick up by vanderwall Lee between
the legs, dribble trying to step back, trying to spend
nowhere to go, Bot bakes the three against Sure gets
into the paint.
Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
Oh nice job. Oh he missed the bunny.
Speaker 2 (01:09:40):
Great job of looking off Vancouver and to clear the
lane when he went up, but he couldn't finish.
Speaker 8 (01:09:45):
Yeah, Vancouver and just kind of got frozen in the tracks.
Was gonna go up and can test a shot and
then couldn't get the kiss.
Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
I love Boto the Junior. He'll be back next year.
He's got a lot of game, folks. It's gonna be
a good one before he's done for the Bulldogs at
Jill Rodriguez already is Camegan now with comrade on, they
switch out top as a handoff little Michigan State weave
the Vancouver and now Sure picked up his dribble between
the rings. Needs help gets it from Burgess.
Speaker 8 (01:10:09):
As surprised that Unity is now setting up and trying
to get into the half court.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Oh man, they had Vanderwall in a flash and now
sure tried to go behind his back, picked.
Speaker 1 (01:10:18):
By Lee Leah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
Ahead of the pack, oh and knocked away by Camea
just so fast in transition.
Speaker 1 (01:10:24):
He's gonna be a good one next year.
Speaker 2 (01:10:26):
Heading to Penn University to play football is now good news.
Bowman back in there. Great job by the training staff
of BC. As Peering goes out, five point fifty one
left to go in regulation, Buck Gino, we're tied at
thirty three apiece. What a ballgame this has played out
in the second half to be as we thought it would.
With eleven and four Byron center against thirteen and one
(01:10:48):
Unitie Christian coming in, they throw it out top to Bot.
Now Hinko coming off a screen, can't dial up that
three big rebound by Max Vancouver just snatched it out
of the air outlet to Burgess.
Speaker 8 (01:10:59):
Also, Byron's doing a really good job knowing that if
you're not gonna get the rebound getting back on defense.
The first half, they got burned a couple of times
trying to get up for the rebound offensively. Now just
kind of giving up that they're willing to get up
to one and done if they can get back on defense.
Speaker 1 (01:11:13):
Oh a nice screen and roll.
Speaker 2 (01:11:14):
Sure, freed himself off the Vanderwall screen rebound, Hanko. When
we get a stoppage and play, we'll do our wing
douzy fan of the game, Hinkle behind the back of
free himself, goes up swatted by vanderwal hit the dak
good sportsmanshift though, but a foul tofore that going to
be called against Tyler Burgess trying to guard Hinkle.
Speaker 1 (01:11:33):
Let's do this right now, but you know why we
got the foul.
Speaker 2 (01:11:36):
We'll go Callers seven to our studio line. Joe Ereton
is ready to take your phone. Calls Callers seven for
that wing Tousey twenty five dollars gift card at six one, six, four, five,
four thirty seven seventy six Hinkel on the inbounds deep
three No, off the back iron long Karen BoNT had
it lost at Hinkle gets it back, kicks out Lee
Pump fake for three on the left corner, step back
trying to get it no, and Burgess claims the defensive rebound.
Speaker 1 (01:11:59):
Bowman's got to be careful. He's got three.
Speaker 8 (01:12:01):
He doesn't want to pick up the fourth burchas five
minutes left and potential overtime looming quickly.
Speaker 1 (01:12:06):
In the front court to Walter's in the right corner.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Thought about the three bounce pass back out getting that
number caller seven six, one six four five four thirty
seven seventy six. Good luck from wing Doozy Burgess as
they swing around the horn left wing. Now the van
derwall has been quiet this half after a big first half.
Cam a guy who led him with ten. Oh, nice
shovel pass down low and vancouvering's just the garbage guy
(01:12:30):
right hangs out around the rim and puts it up
in hand.
Speaker 8 (01:12:32):
Well, he had the leverage on Conrad, the height advantage,
the position. Great job there by vancouveringing a nice pass
by camming a underhand pass into the post.
Speaker 2 (01:12:43):
Easy to you know what Vancouvery does so well, moves
well without the basketball, always going to the basket, and
his teammates are looking for thirty two.
Speaker 1 (01:12:51):
Yeap at the end of the first half, got the
that got that bucket because he got to the rim, and.
Speaker 2 (01:12:56):
In a game like this, every bucket counts right, thirty
five thirty three after that bank two to give you
Untie Christian the lead back. Here comes Vanderwald to close
out with Hanko and he knocked it off himself out
of bounds.
Speaker 1 (01:13:09):
Touched it last, and again they're not.
Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Respecting Unity Christian with their length when they come out
to guard, and the guards are just kind of trying
to dribble through it. They can't with the long hands
deflecting it off them out of bounce. This one is
a full time out, so we'll step aside as well.
Three point fifty four left to go in the fourth,
it's a two point game. Unity Christian thirty five Byron
Sender thirty three. Back with more after this on ninety
(01:13:31):
sixty one thick game. Ye back here for sider Gymnasium
(01:14:48):
two point game Repequita buck Gino. After the timeout, three
point fifty and ticking left to go. Unity Christian with
the basketball and that slight two point advantage after they
led by thirteen at the break. Nice comeback by Byron Center,
especially that wild third quarter.
Speaker 1 (01:15:05):
For the Bulldogs. Down low.
Speaker 2 (01:15:06):
They go to Vanderwall, closed off by Bowman's playing with
three files, kick over to Vancouver, can't dial up the
three Vanderwall the offensive rebound, Bowman knocks it away from
about a bounce, but it'll stay with the Crusaders right
in front of their student section to our left.
Speaker 8 (01:15:19):
I mean, I like Max, I don't know if I
want to be drawing up place him to shoot it
from deep. I mean, he's really having a day inside.
That one almost went though, it almost went down, But man,
I mean, you're just taking away one of your better rebounders.
Speaker 2 (01:15:35):
Vanderwall step out three too strong. Think Byron center will
live with that.
Speaker 8 (01:15:39):
To your point, we got we got the centers taking
threes and uh, it just kind of minimizes the advantage
they have down low, especially.
Speaker 1 (01:15:49):
When you got guys.
Speaker 8 (01:15:50):
He's down in the toy now but shirt and camera
capable shoot. I mean, I know they're open, but sometimes
there's a reason that you're open because of that coouvering.
Speaker 1 (01:16:00):
Got the foul, by the way, and the rebound attempt
against Bot.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
Now working against Bot defensively tries to go baseline on him.
Vancouver in second team second this quarter, no files on
the board the fourth vinment center three and.
Speaker 1 (01:16:12):
Change left to go a good ball rotation.
Speaker 2 (01:16:14):
All the way around to Bot in the corner. Out
pops out halfway down. Rebound cleared my vander Wall. Here's
Burgess at the timeline of the front court, got all
the way down. Halfway down the lane, Leason form Vancouver
and s get passed over to Walters, leaves the handoff
for Vanderwall. Now Cambiga, who's been quiet in the second half,
trying to spin on Bowman. Bowman, good job trying to
knock Hi away, but he's gotta be careful not to
(01:16:35):
get his fourth. And exactly what he did. He was
swinging wildly trying to double team.
Speaker 1 (01:16:40):
Lee had him covered. You can just see that one
coming and.
Speaker 2 (01:16:43):
Jaydon Bowman, you're too valuable now with his fourth personally
got to stand the game.
Speaker 8 (01:16:47):
Yeah, I think Vanderwall might have gotten away with a
little bit of a moving the screen because he absolutely crushed.
Speaker 1 (01:16:56):
Kyrie.
Speaker 8 (01:16:56):
I thought, oh, we are we running a twenty four
trap and I'm going back.
Speaker 1 (01:17:00):
He just got dacked. But no call there and now
Bowman takes up a chinzy one. That's for gotta be
careful as attacking. Nice job, Burgess.
Speaker 2 (01:17:09):
He went right at Boma with the four personals who
are staying in there, bought the other way. Nice job
on the feet from Isaac Lee. You see this kind
of fell asleep, didn't get back defensively.
Speaker 8 (01:17:18):
Good job there by breaking down the wing and making
himself available.
Speaker 1 (01:17:22):
Good smart past there by Isaac Lee.
Speaker 2 (01:17:24):
Good counter by Byron Center after the score by Union
Christian thirty seven thirty five Crusaders by two Burgess right
wing watch by Hanko walls him up.
Speaker 1 (01:17:33):
Now get to the camera, go with bond on him.
Speaker 8 (01:17:35):
Oh no shot clock Byron Center is gonna have to
start thinking about potentially following if they don't get a
shot up quick.
Speaker 2 (01:17:41):
Vancouver ain't strong wove around in outstage within the offensive class,
puts it back up and end.
Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
It's like he's playing nerf boop around their backs.
Speaker 8 (01:17:49):
Vancouvery nobody underneath that can match the height, and he
had good position.
Speaker 1 (01:17:53):
Now a screen to free Lee up and under can't finish.
Speaker 2 (01:17:57):
Good job by Vanderwall rebound cleared by a wall up
ahead Burgess to camea puts.
Speaker 1 (01:18:03):
It up an end. Bot fell asleep that time, didn't
see him.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
And now Joe Rodriguez, as the lead has grown to six,
has to take a time out.
Speaker 1 (01:18:12):
One thirty three left.
Speaker 4 (01:18:14):
To go.
Speaker 1 (01:18:16):
Forty one thirty five Unity Christian.
Speaker 2 (01:18:19):
It is a full time out, but we'll keep it
right here, and congratulations goes out to Jonathan Sayah playing well.
Listening tonight to our broadcast, he was called seven. He's
our wing Doozy fan of the game, brought to you
by a wing Doozy in the best chicken wings in
West Michigan three plus years running. Oh of those fries
so good as well with locations of wyowing in to
the Metro Health Village off of Byron Center Avenue, Bullog
(01:18:41):
Fans and all about that, and just off Chicago Drive
for the Unity Christian Fans here in Hudsonville, right next
to Gemmen's East Hardware Wing Doozy, and we also want
to thank tonight LMSU was here, Buckets was here for
the Grand Rappids Gold and we had folks with the
Kids Food Basket out front to grit everyone in the
lobby and let you know him out the need right
now for Kids Food Basket, our official nonprofit for the
(01:19:04):
LMCU High School basketball game of the Week. With our
Baskets for Kids campaign, we've phrased now over three thousand
dollars plus. And then we'll add to that with our
three pointers tonight, which we've had a bunch here in
the second half. LMCU generously donating fifty dollars to Kids
Food Basket to nourish local kids to reach their full
potential for every three pointer made in our LMCU Game
(01:19:24):
of the Week broadcast during the regular season.
Speaker 8 (01:19:26):
Byron's are now down six thirty three to go. The
big thing right now is they've only got one team
foul in this quarter. So for them to get Unity
Christian to the line and try to extend the game,
they have to commit a lot of fowls. So time
is that under side and neither is the scoreboard. They're
gonna have to figure it out.
Speaker 1 (01:19:45):
Crusader's trying to pick up win number fourteen.
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
Now, Hankel tried to hold you over to BoNT Oh
got it back because it was stolen momentarily by Vancouver.
And with those quick hants, what Camp Max Vancouver do
now trying to guard BoNT which is a tough challenge.
Give it up a little of the quickness category and
Bot gives a little pat on the backside, saying, hey,
good work, big man. He is tough Max Vancouver and
on the floor. Yeah, it's his third though. If we
(01:20:10):
go overtime or something, just kind of keep an eye
on that. We got Bowman out there for BC with
four lead an inbounds, get to the Bowman strong move
in the right hand, but can't finish. Walled off by Vandrwalt.
Good job as Bowman hits the deck, no call.
Speaker 8 (01:20:22):
Yeah, that's a pretty good defense there. And Bolas falling
away from the basket. That's you gotta if you're gonna
try to get that and sell it. Can't fall away
from the defender. You got to go into it, try
to a little get a little more contact. And Byron
Center now starting to foul. But again that's only their
second team foul with Wee picking up his first of
the game.
Speaker 1 (01:20:42):
So here I be aggress I'm aggressive fan.
Speaker 2 (01:20:44):
Byron Center really challenged to dribble, trying to steal because
you have files to give.
Speaker 1 (01:20:50):
They burn another one there and it's bought his second
on the reach.
Speaker 8 (01:20:53):
D Well, Now they're gonna bring in white shirts because
he's got some fouls to burn, and they're also gonna
take Bowman out on.
Speaker 1 (01:20:59):
The defense into possession. Yeah goes smaller here.
Speaker 8 (01:21:02):
Oh, and you also don't want Bowman picking up his fifth.
I mean you're gonna need him on the offensive end
forty one thirty five.
Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
Sure, now double team, they got the steal and they
get it as Hinkle digs it out of there to
Bond quick looking a three, lets it fly no off
the front rim up high Max Vancouver and just doing
it all for unity. Christian kind of felt like that
one they had to go down.
Speaker 8 (01:21:23):
Yep, if your hint or if your bond, excuse me,
boy Don's had a tough night shooting from the flour.
Speaker 1 (01:21:28):
I just couldn't get that one to go down.
Speaker 2 (01:21:31):
The lead is still six as we'll walk to the
other end, and I don't know, partner, but I'm looking
at uptown chiefs Gate, mister do everything. Player of the
game number thirty two is making a case in Max Vancouver,
and I know Cam has had a great game, especially
first half as well. They get it in another foul
by BC. The anvill finally send him to the line.
Fifty one point nine seconds left. Now we are up
(01:21:53):
above on the track. We're gonna try and talk to
the winning coach if we can. They'll take them a
little bit to get up here before stet our discount
door postgame show tonight, Buck Gina will select our Uptown
Chiefs Skate offensive player of the game. I'll select our
Montel Construction defensive player of the game. Purchase too strong
on the first well.
Speaker 8 (01:22:10):
And this is the part where Unity Christian I talked
about it in the pre game. Not a strong, foul
shooting team. Several players under seventy five percent. And that's
what you've got to do, is you gotta get him
on the line, make them earn those points.
Speaker 1 (01:22:26):
Which is just the opposite for Byron Center. Their guards
can really fill it up.
Speaker 8 (01:22:29):
And Burgess is fifty one and a half percent coming
into today. That's what he does right there.
Speaker 2 (01:22:35):
Split's the pair I was gonna say, right on the money,
right forty two to thirty five, final fifty seconds. Gotta
hurry up a little bit if you're Byron Center and
you're looking for a three here bought off a high
screen from League, can't free himself. Good defense by Union
Christian League gard in the perimeter. Bot on the drible
penetration step through, tough shot. Good defense by Burgess. Hankle
digs it out of the offensive rebound. Now Bot spins again,
(01:22:57):
tries to finish no at the rim. Great defense without
folling by Union Christian and now that's gonna be the
knight for Boma. Just had to grab broken shut.
Speaker 8 (01:23:06):
Yeah, I mean if he doesn't, I mean there's more
time goes off the clock, right, But I mean part
of that is because he had a couple of you know,
small ones at the first quarter, and that's what really
triggers it. So Boba'll leave and frustrated as you can tell.
I mean, he gets fouled out, he gets hit in
(01:23:26):
the face, didn't have a great game. They just sometimes
you wake up and it's one of those nights. Jaden
And speaking of.
Speaker 2 (01:23:34):
That, the leading scorer for Unity Christian is broken shoulders
at the line right now, twelve points per game, and
he knocks down the free throws he does so well.
His fourth point is just gonna say he didn't really
go off for them. So if Unity Christian credit for
other guys stepping up.
Speaker 8 (01:23:46):
Had a three in the first half and that's been
about it, and then they just got the foul shot
the fall.
Speaker 2 (01:23:52):
He is a guy you would like though at the
Charity Strite, nothing but Niel out of a second makes
it a nine point game, forty four to thirty five.
What a come by Byron Son the second half is
lead arounding out of the three from the top and
now landing Conrad fouls Burchas and I'm sure Joe Rodriguez
will call off the docks here.
Speaker 1 (01:24:09):
After the final I mean nowety seconds.
Speaker 8 (01:24:11):
Yeah, I mean at that one, Conrad had just fighting
for the rebound. He's sure he's not trying to foul
to stop the clock there, He's trying to get the rebound. So,
like you said, I think Coach Rodriguez will tell them
to cease the following activities. And I will say this,
I mean, this is the first game without Cam Carroll. Yeah,
and the first half of that look at the third
quarter showed them what they can be. But just the
(01:24:35):
fourth quarter again, unity too much and they're gonna end
up winning this one.
Speaker 1 (01:24:40):
Pulling away.
Speaker 2 (01:24:41):
Burchess hits the first three today, Christian Wholesale Substitution's final
twenty seconds in this one, Scott soldsmclear and the bench
high fives Vancouver Raine shirt as normal starters.
Speaker 1 (01:24:53):
Vander Wall.
Speaker 2 (01:24:54):
They're looking to pick up win number fourteen out of
the season, you know, christ iph They hang on fourteen
to one. Overall, five and zero is still the top
of the Oka Black Division. With the shuffle and now
Burgess makes the second he'll go outs and for him
is justin Phoebus Junior guard forty six thirty five. The
leaves eleven and for Byron Center, like you said, life
(01:25:15):
without Cam Carroll to have to do it again on
Friday night gets Mona Shores on the road triple try
bhinkle no, followed by Whitter's no.
Speaker 1 (01:25:22):
Bot still working.
Speaker 2 (01:25:23):
Out on the offensive lass and now we'll whistle with
ten point nine seconds left.
Speaker 1 (01:25:27):
And that's just it what we talked about earlier.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
If you're tuning in for the first time, Bucchino without
Cam Carroll for at least the rest of this week.
He is in street closed as a knee brace Mona
Shores on Friday, Hudsonville next Tuesday, and then at Muskegan
next Friday.
Speaker 1 (01:25:41):
Who leads the.
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Ok green Isaac Lee for three no final two seconds
bot no, And that's the way it's gonna finish. Respect
from both clubs, but Unity Christian gets to win here
at home tonight by eleven forty six thirty five the
final over Byron Center.
Speaker 1 (01:26:00):
Come back in that second half by BC down.
Speaker 2 (01:26:03):
They're big star Cam Carroll and they will grow from this,
but they dropped now to eleven and five overall, and
they've got a lot of work to do with the
Okay Green coming.
Speaker 1 (01:26:12):
Up, which is a tough division, and they're gonna.
Speaker 8 (01:26:14):
Have to do it with for at least a stretch
here without Cam Carroll. So I think they showed a
lot of heart tonight. The shots were not following, they
were giving it. They're all just again struggling without their
star player, and it's going to be in a justin period.
You can't simulate that playing against another team. You can
practice all you want, but I mean you you just
(01:26:36):
can't simulate that. So a tough test tonight playing against
a very good Crusaders team, and if you look at
the score of forty six and thirty five, you're like.
Speaker 1 (01:26:44):
Boy, you know it probably didn't go too well.
Speaker 8 (01:26:46):
It really didn't, But I, like you said, Byron Center,
it was twenty five to twelve at a halftime. They
end up having a brief lead in the third quarter,
so they came all the way back, but then again
went cold, scoring only a couple of points down the stretch.
After they got to thirty three to thirty in favor
of Byron Center, just two more points down the stretch,
(01:27:07):
So tough one for Byron Center.
Speaker 1 (01:27:09):
But you know you won't hear Joe Rodriguez complaining that's a.
Speaker 8 (01:27:14):
Learning opportunity for them, and they found out now how
hard it's going to be without the services of Cam Carroll.
Speaker 1 (01:27:20):
So we're gonna take our time out now.
Speaker 2 (01:27:21):
We'll come back with a discount or postgame show with
Scott Soldima.
Speaker 1 (01:27:24):
Looks like he's working his way up.
Speaker 2 (01:27:26):
The stairs to come to us. Forty six thirty five
the final. Unity Christian improvement to fourteen and one overalls.
They get to win tonight of a Byron Center. We'll
come back with more from Crusader Gymnasium after this on
ninety six to one the game, and welcome back to
(01:28:05):
drew Sadersymnasium as the Unity Christian fans go home victorious.
Speaker 1 (01:28:10):
Forty six thirty five the final.
Speaker 2 (01:28:12):
Here's the way it broke down by quarters is head
coach Scott Sltzman gonna.
Speaker 1 (01:28:15):
Join us here in a minute. Un Christian up four
after one, eleven to seven.
Speaker 2 (01:28:19):
Then they broke out with a fourteen to five advantage
into that second quarter, lead it by thirteen twenty five
to twelve, and then all of a sudden out of
the third quarter, here comes BC.
Speaker 1 (01:28:29):
They win that third quarter eighteen to eight.
Speaker 2 (01:28:31):
We've got a one possession game, thirty three to thirty
Unity Christian heading in to the fourth and then the
Crusaders play some good defense, get some stops, hit their
free throws, and they win it by eleven forty six
thirty five. Their head coach Scott So it's joins us
right now in the Montel Construction coaches quarter. Coach, how
crazy was that one? And you know Byron Center getting
used to not playing with Cam Carroll. But boy, they
(01:28:52):
look like a different team started that second half, didn't they?
Speaker 15 (01:28:54):
Yes, they did. And we talked about that at halftime.
He said, they're too good a ball club to buckle.
They're not going to buckle, gonna come out firing. And
you know, fortunately we were a little flat and we
did some things that we are not in character, going
one on one instead of moving the basketball.
Speaker 9 (01:29:08):
And give give Byron Center credit. They took it right
to us.
Speaker 15 (01:29:11):
And yeah, but again I'm really happy with the resilience
of our kids too. You know, they're down two after
being ahead, they didn't quit. They bounced back. Our defense
tightened up again, and uh, I think that was a
difference in the ballgame.
Speaker 8 (01:29:23):
Well, with Cam Carroll out, coach, you're able to extend
the defense right, your guards are come out and the
perimeter game for byrons there obviously with Cam Carroll in
the game, it's a it's a downlow, it's it's a
high low game. With him out not being the post presence. Boy,
you really had those guards playing aggressive and they did
a heck of a job keeping Hankling.
Speaker 1 (01:29:40):
BoNT to really not getting a great shot selection.
Speaker 15 (01:29:42):
Yeah, I thought that was really the difference tonight is
we're really a good pressure defense. We're gonna come after you,
and our kids recover really fast. They help and recover
back to the shooters because you know as well hank
On and BoNT and Lee, they all three of those
kids can fire it and so and again they didn't
shoot it well. But I'd like to think that our
hands on defense and the pressure we were applying, you know,
(01:30:03):
made a difference.
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
You know, you talked about that both teams when we
had our pregame conversation where to grow from this game,
regardless of the outcome. Here's what I took away from
you seeing you for the first time I'd seen Byron
Center now for the second time is broken. Sure had
you know, just kind of a uncharacteristic game for him.
He had shots, he just didn't knock him down. Hit
a couple free throws. I think he hit one. But
look at all the other guys, Owen, Vanderwall Cam again,
(01:30:26):
you know this, But I mean that's what makes it
tough for you, Coach Vancouver is just a piece. I
never forget about Max because he just does it all
the time. But I mean other guys step up. Cody
Walters with the defense I know.
Speaker 9 (01:30:35):
And isn't that the case?
Speaker 15 (01:30:36):
That's what I said to Cody after the game or
when he came out the last I said, Bob, that
was a great job. You bought us some minutes. You
gave Shirt a chance to sit out and just kind
of reflect a little bit.
Speaker 9 (01:30:45):
And yeah, you're right.
Speaker 15 (01:30:46):
It wasn't one of Brogan's better nights. But again, that's
the nice of our team. We don't really center on
one kid, and tonight we had other kids step up
really big.
Speaker 1 (01:30:56):
What is this prepare for you? Before I go back
to Bucchino lung call for the district. We talked about
it both you and Byron Center and loaded districts.
Speaker 2 (01:31:03):
I mean, their pace, their guards, I mean that helps
you right when you're getting ready for granted as Christan
or South Christin or whoever.
Speaker 9 (01:31:09):
Yep, yeah, that was and we knew that they would
run up.
Speaker 15 (01:31:12):
They leaked out a few times and they got us too,
and we and that was unfortunate because we really take
pride in getting back and making sure. But they get
down the floor. Their guards are so athletic, I mean,
and they jump really well. But this is a good
test for us. And like I said, our defense goes
wherever we go. And that's I think been a staple
of our program for years. And I always say that
the kids, the defense travels. Whether it's on our court
(01:31:34):
or someone else's, you can always bring that. And I
thought that that really probably was a difference. You know ten,
what did they have at half twelve points?
Speaker 1 (01:31:41):
Yeah? Yeah, yep.
Speaker 8 (01:31:43):
Well, coach you one seven now eight straight seven coming
into tonight and now that at fourteen and one as
you go down the stretch, how do you feel that
this game really helped you guys realize that you know,
when you're even if you're hot, you're gonna have to
bring it every night because you're gonna not to be
playing easier teams as you get into Tempruary March, you're
(01:32:03):
gonna be playing tougher.
Speaker 1 (01:32:03):
Ones and you're able to get away with win.
Speaker 8 (01:32:05):
How does that make you feel as a coach knowing
that these kids kind of got a little bit of
a lesson night, but you still are able to get the.
Speaker 15 (01:32:11):
W That's what we just talked about my quick talk
to them. As see, we learned a lesson tonight. You
guys showed a lot of character coming back. But when
you're not ready and coming out and playing at the
level that we need to play at, then we're not
going to be very successful. But I've got great kids,
I really do. I'm really proud of their effort tonight.
They as you could see out on the floor, they
they work, boy, they all work, and it was It's
(01:32:33):
been a pleasure to coach them. And we still need
to keep getting better. We need to get You know,
we didn't shoot it very well tonight, but then neither today,
so neither were team really shot the ball?
Speaker 2 (01:32:41):
Well fuck, you know what's a good night for coach
Sotzma and unity Christian because he didn't have to work
on the twel he.
Speaker 9 (01:32:46):
Must to my knees were fairly weak though they were.
Speaker 1 (01:32:50):
Hey, coach, thank you so much. A pleasure. Go enjoy
this one and we know you'll take it and move
forward down the road. Right.
Speaker 9 (01:32:55):
Yeah, thanks for coming. Guys. You do a great job,
so thank you appreciate it.
Speaker 2 (01:32:59):
Scott soldzma head coach Unity Christian joined us in the
Montel Construction Coaches corner. Happy about that victory forty six
thirty five. And that's so true, Buck, I mean, you
hit it right on the head that he takes these
and grows with it. And I love how he congratulates
every kid. This was a team effort tonight, really for
Unity Christian and some guys that maybe don't normally step
up to It's gonna make them stronger come March. And
(01:33:20):
I tell you what that looked like. A South Christian
team that looked like a Grand Appist Christian team that
byrant Center team beats South Christian just like Uniti Christian
did in overtime. That only helps you because you know
those are gauntlets. The Unarich Christian's gonna have the face
just to get out of the Division two district.
Speaker 1 (01:33:35):
Well, you talked about it too. Coming out of the
locker room.
Speaker 8 (01:33:37):
He knew, you know, a wounded dog always fights the hardest,
and they were.
Speaker 1 (01:33:42):
Wounded coming out of halftime.
Speaker 3 (01:33:43):
You know.
Speaker 8 (01:33:44):
Joe Rodriguez, it wasn't pleased with their performance, and he's
probably going to tell them in the manner that he
found fit. And it worked because they came out. But
like coach Sosa said, you had to roll with the punches.
You knew you're gonna get their best shot, right. He
had to know, and they were just a little bit flat.
And that's the lesson that they're going to learn is
(01:34:04):
at some point you're gonna play a team that either
a like Byron Sare that has Cam Carroll or be
another team that has similar talent, and you're gonna hit
them in the mouth a little bit and they're gonna
come back at you. You've got to be ready for that.
So I think a valuable lesson for you and De Christian.
But like I said, also for Byron Center, yeah, getting
used to not having him. I thought overall, the effort
(01:34:25):
was there. They did, like coach Osan said, they didn't
shoot the ball well. But I think for Byron Center
now they look at it and go all right, we
know what we have to do with to win. With
Cam not in the lineup, we just have to go
do it. We have to execute.
Speaker 1 (01:34:38):
We get knocked down shots because they had plenty of shots.
Speaker 2 (01:34:40):

Christian's roster and the points per game averages, Rack boyers
Broken shared with twelve point four and we got Kyler
Burgess was.
Speaker 1 (01:37:11):
Just about eight.
Speaker 8 (01:37:13):
You're like, okay, well maybe some of these other guys too,
I mean Owen Vandrbal But the leading scorer tonight was
none of those guys.
Speaker 1 (01:37:20):
It was Max vancouvering number thirty two.
Speaker 8 (01:37:22):
He had twelve points, solid effort for number thirty two,
the senior and boy, he really came up big because
Broken shre just I don't know if it was because
the defense from Byron Center. I don't know if it
was just the game plan how it worked out, but
Broken Shured was very very quiet, only had five points tonight,
but Max Vancouvering picked up the slack and so for
(01:37:45):
that he is our Uptown Cheap Skate offensive player of
the game, Max van Coovering with a dozen congratulations to
the senior comunity, Christian number thirty two, and he's gonna

Construction defensive play of the game, I'm gonna stay with
the Crusaders community, Christian, I love the coach. Soltizman agreed
with us and he gave a high five to Cody
Walters number four, just kind of doing the grind work tonight,
buying some minutes for the starters doing a great job.
Junior forward Cody Walters Tonight's Montel Construction defensive Player of
the game.
Speaker 1 (01:38:30):
Well it was mister Cammi guy.
Speaker 2 (01:38:33):
Jack Camiga, one of the talented juniors that played last
year in the Varsity's a sophomore, had the impressive first
half with ten points. Kind of shot out, but he
does so many different things, and here he set up
Tonight's Uptown Chiefs skate offensive Player of the game. Nice
little shovel pass as our j and HS Family Stores
highlight of the game from Camiga to Vancouvery Cama guy
who led it with ten Oh, nice shovel pass down
(01:38:54):
low and Vancouvering's just the garbage guy right hangs out
around the rim and puts it up in the end.
That's Tonight's Jane H Family Stores Highlight of the game,

every Thursday night at the LMCU Basketball Blitz, and we
are proud to have David Channa head coach of Norfiew.
They got a big win in that snowed out game
two days in a row with Northview. We were supposed
(01:39:26):
to bring you in South Christian at the home of
the Wildcats, and they are on a roll right now.
They are leading unbeaten in the Okay Goal which is
a tough division for the boys and the girls basketball wise.
But he's gonna join us in the Montel Construction Coaches
Corner Thursday night from six to seven, myself and Jason
Hutton as our guests, our Montel Construction Coaches Corner segment.
Speaker 8 (01:39:46):
Well, I mean football the Okay Gold We saw what
that division brought us and then they're like, all right,
we'll just make the basket one that hard. So you
guys are all the gold. That boy, that's a tough one.
But David John's got the Wildcats rowlin. So Northview a
really fine year for that school athletically, not just the
boys either. I mean they've got some pretty good girls
(01:40:06):
teams too, so heads off to them. But it was
a shame that we didn't get to do the first edition,
but I think you're gonna announce later that we're gonna
get a reprieve on that one, and I know you'll
be warming up in Florida at that time, but Hutton
and I will be doing the rematch of that one
on February eighteenth, so that should be a good one.
(01:40:27):
And man, I mean, we've seen the north of you
in the last couple of years under David really has
some good talent, and boy, they're rolling right now.
Speaker 1 (01:40:34):
Don't forget to check out our schedule.
Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
We go lighter in February because we're gonna bulk up
in late February the start of the boys District action
and then March it's full bore on the road of
the Buzzon Center brought to you by MKD Funerals. But
we have updated both the eleventh which will be our
next broadcast February eleventh, So a little time off here,
boy side the ringmatch between Rockford and Hudsonville at Hudsonville
just down the road, the home of the Eagles. That
February twenty fifth, Bucket, I'll head out to a Redmond
(01:40:59):
Potter gym. They've redone that at Skegan High a girls'
edition Miskegan. They should have hopefully both of their great
guards back that are Division one prospects. Against West Catholic
we haven't seen yet, Probably the second best team in
the area girls wide, and when you look at Rockford
of course kind of elite and they get Sienle Wolf back,
and then you've got West Catholic and you've got Grand Haven.
Speaker 1 (01:41:19):
So that'll be Tuesday, February twenty fifth. In this buck mention.
Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
We haven't added to the schedule yet, but you can
