From the one eight hundred calls SAM Studio, ninety six
to one The Game, DUMPLINMAXFM, pauland Bran Rapids and iHeartRadio Station.
Well good Friday, Even never one and welcome live to
Vikings Gymnasium on the campus of Hopkins High School, where
tonight here on ninety six to one the Game's Road

(00:21):
to the Bresident Center, presented by MKDE Funeral Homes. We've
got a Division two girls district final, and what a
battle of ok Conference Division champions as well as the
Maroons of Holland Christian come into this final twenty in
three overall outright champs the ok Black, and they'll square
off with a familiar foe they always face off in
the regular season as well, the twenty one and two

(00:43):
Sailors of South Christian co champs along with West Catholic
of that very tough Okay Goal Division. Hello over one
is along with Tom Kendra in tonight Court Sun. I'm
Bret Pikida. Joe Aaron is our executive producer and studio host.
Back in the ninety six to one The Game Studios
in downtown Ground Rapids. Tom, glad to have you along.
It's been since the holidays, we did a boys game

(01:04):
at Cornerstille with Cadillac involved with Coopersville. But we're in
for a treat tonight because I tell you what for
those tuning in, if you want high level high school
girls basketball, it.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Doesn't get much better than this, No, And there's nothing
like March Madness is the great gym here at Hopkins.
Fans are starting to file in here. These two teams,
they've gotten to be familiar foes in recent years, and
they had a great game at this same time last
year in the district final. South Christian wins in double overtime.
We could be in for another incidant classic tonight.

Speaker 1 (01:33):
And I tell you there are players all over the
court tonight for South Christian Holland Christian. I was telling
you on the way down, I mean, I think they're
all said and done because they're at different great levels
from freshmen all the way after seniors. We could have
as many in the starting laps as maybe six seven
college potential players on the floor at one time tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Oh, no question about it. And we talked about on
the way here. It's a family affair really. South Holland
Christian coach Kyle Phelps.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
He's got two.

Speaker 2 (02:00):
Daughters on the varsity, he's got another daughter on the
JV team. And then you look at South Christian, you
got the wold Hi sisters and then you got the
Prince sisters. So yeah, there's a lot of a family
field of this game. But you know it should be
another great matchup.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Two great young coaches, two of their programs, and they
come through the lineage of their dads were coaches. Kyle
Phelps and if that name sounds a mair, I played
against his dad when he was the East Kentwood coach
before he took the boys job of Holland Christian, the
legendary Hall of Famer Mickey Phelps. And now Kyle taking
care of the girls program just I think his second
year for Holland Christian. And then you have on the

(02:36):
other side Erica Brown and if that name sound Smila, Yes,
her husband is Danny Brown. But she played for a
dad back at Flushing High. It was a Division One
player for Sussie Merchant, who coached before she came to
Michigan State down to Eastern Michigan University.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
All right, yeah, so both both of these second year
coaches for both programs They've both done a great job.
Twenty win teams here are going at it against each other.
One of them that's to win. If you look at
this rivalry, South Christians, they've won six in a row
over Holland Christian, but a lot of them have been
close games. Makes you wonder is it gonna be the

(03:10):
Maroon's turn tonight.

Speaker 3 (03:12):
I don't know. We'll have to see.

Speaker 1 (03:13):
He's got a key stat about that double overtime win
and for Holland Christian, they want to turn the tables
on that stat tonight that could lead them to victory.
We'll give you that coming up in the JA and
H Family Stores pregame show after the time out. I
had a chance earlier this morning to over the phone
talk to Erica Brown about the matchup tonight, the head
coach of South Christian. We'll play that for you the

(03:33):
Montel Construction Coaches Corner. We continue counting you down to
tip off Girls District Final Action Division two. It's Holland
Christian versus South Christian live on a Friday nine here
on ninety six to one.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
The game.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
We are just amount of set to go with this
Division two District final. On the ladies side, Holland Christian
and South Christian.

Speaker 4 (03:56):
We count you down to tipoff.

Speaker 1 (03:57):
Here on the J and H Family Stores pregame show
sixty plus location across Mishiky to serve you. Stop by
on your way out to your next game. Are on
your way home jade H Family Stores. Well, I mentioned
Tom Kendris sports side with me. I'm gonna go to
Tom right now with our vandal on home improvement keys
to the contest of this one.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Well well bred. I think it's a classic matchup. Holland
Christian is a great defensive team. South Christian they're more
of an offensive team.

Speaker 3 (04:20):
That's it be a.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Great test see which one wins out in that. Looking
at Holland Christian in that first match up, they couldn't
throw it in the ocean. They were zero for eighteen.
Wow from three point land. I've never heard of anything
like that. I think for Holland Christian they need to
play inside out. They need to get the ball inside
to their big girls Kate van Appldorn, Siri Kiria Smiths

(04:43):
and then kick it out maybe get some open looks
on the edge. For South Christian, I think they need
to get out and run. Sophia Prinz. She runs the show.
She's great in the open court. But unlike most teams,
when they fast break, you know, most teams they'll cut
to the basket. The South CHRISTI and girls they like
to spot up because they're such good three point shooters.

(05:04):
Lizzie woldtheis her sister, Natalie woldheis, Meredith Helmas.

Speaker 3 (05:11):
They're all abby prins.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
They're just great three point shooters if they get hot
from the outside look out.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
So you mentioned South Christian winning the regular season fifty
five forty four. Back out December sixth, cam Vandenbosch once
they hit a couple of threes herself head of the
University Toledo. I think that'll change tonight. She always seems
to rise to the occasion. And then going back to
that district final double overtime thriller with South Christian, me
and Holland Christian a year ago to advance down the
road to the President Center, hoping tap one by the sailors.

(05:37):
Meredith Helmas, the sophomore get the start out of the
top of the key, and they have good senior leadership.
Lily Knits has it out top. They'll rotate her through
good passing team is South Christian. Now here's Sophia Friends.
They're leading scorer. Sofia left hander by nature, and she
loves to attack the basket, averaging just over thirteen points
per game. Bold heyes can fire the three. She has

(05:58):
it right now leaders. It started last year as sophomores
for Erica Brown manded man pressure defense by Holland Christian
in their home whites good defense. Friends picks up the dribble,
needs some help, kicks it left side in the corner.
That's Nits who was kind of their star. And that
went over West cathok and the second.

Speaker 4 (06:14):
Go around, pull up jumper.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
South call I'm away and knocking it down as Kampoonstra
see's another one.

Speaker 4 (06:19):
The moment's not too big for her. That was a
big bucket.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
And now full court pressure help us almost to steal
Holland Christian. Now with bandon boskets at the crossed timeline
and into the front court with it is Kate van Appledorn.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
You see early South Christian. They want to speed up
this game a little full court pressure. The faster the
game is, the better it is for the Sailors.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
How about Sailors two three matchup zone to start trip
will try firing from the left corner. Too strong by
Edlin Naihoff, one of the talented seniors for Kyle Phelps.
Now Vanden Boss tries to lob over the top. Good
catch in traffic over the zone that time and on
the attack Nice finish on the dribble drive from the
right wing, putting it up man in was Brooklyn Phelps
the point guard.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Nice take to the basket. Very aggressive by the coaches.
Kid Brooklyn Phelps a seat a junior.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Great floor game is now the step through by Waldhei's
too strong off the window. Battle for the rebound. Helmus
has it for South Christian. Nice facing the three by
Prince Monster driving the left camp block by Vandon Bosh.
She's gonna be a Toledo Rocket boy. Toledo has come
up and really recruited this area. The Dyster sisters gonna
play for the Rockets is now Vandon Boss draw with

(07:28):
a player on her hip and some contact as she
goes to the baskets. Let's see who they get there.
File's gonna go against Cam Booster, the senior for South Christian.

Speaker 4 (07:38):
Her first.

Speaker 1 (07:39):
That'll send Bandon Boss the line just underway six oh
five left the opening quarter. We're tied it to a piece,
and already you can see the physicality, no.

Speaker 3 (07:47):
Question about it. Cam Vandenbosch, as you mentioned.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Going to Toledo, a six foot senior, very aggressive to
start this game. She took that ball the length of
the court, took it all the way to the basket drawn.

Speaker 1 (07:58):
The foul average is twelve all points per game, five rebounds,
three assists and three steals. She's a four year Varsky
player for the Maroons. I remember watching as a freshman.
Fill it up, knocks down both free throws four too.
Holland Christian. Here the early going Tom's Keys to the
Contest brought to you by Vandaland Home Improvement. With eighty
years in the business. Vandalon Home Improvement offers top notch
contract the services to customers in West Michigan called six

(08:20):
one sixty six, six out eleven eleven. More details and
go to Vandalions dot com. Telmus tried to feed it
in little matchups on by Holland Christian deflected away and
on the steel here comes Brooklyn Phelps crossed it. Timeline
matched up with Boonstruck. A couple of good seniors there
down low the left hand. Nice finish that time by
Adlin Nihoff the five to eleven senior. That's a quick

(08:42):
thirty second time out, gonna be taken by Arka Brown
and the Sailors.

Speaker 2 (08:46):
Wow, great start for the Maroons. Kyle Phelps, he said
after that that that win Wednesday night over Whalen to
get to the final game, He's been waiting a year
for this matchup, and here it is, and the Maroons
off to a great start here.

Speaker 4 (09:00):
You know, Tom, We'll keep it right here.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Six to two, Holland Christian, South Christian taking the time
out the Sailors and Holland Christian playing their best basketball
right now, which is what you wanted. The month of March,
Holland Christian rded a six game winning streak, but they
ended the year with the nice win over Hudsonville kind
of a rivalry game for their Hudsonville a very good
team out of a deep Okay Red Division.

Speaker 4 (09:18):
And for South Christian.

Speaker 1 (09:20):
When we last chatted with them before the Waveling game,
they've gone an unbelievable run and haven't lost, rought a
thirteen game winning streak.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
Coming in they are and the last six games. Brett
for South they've won by double digits, so they're really
playing well. And that's why I think it's really important
that Holland Christian has got off to the good start.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
They have little one two to two matchup zone for
Holland Christian. We saw a two to three for South
Christian and now down low passed into the interior. Nice job,
and they're gonna get Holland Christian with a bump as
they tried to feed it down to Lily Knits. That's
gonna go against Adeline Nihoff her first teams. First, remember
the new rule this year, five thousand a quarter put

(09:58):
you at the line. It's no longer and a half.
Sophia prinz Off the inbounds Waldheigh stepped right to the
three knocks it down. That's a great sign when you
get Lizzie Waldheist getting to going of the Waldheigh sister,
she's the old one.

Speaker 4 (10:11):
A junior.

Speaker 2 (10:12):
She is a forty one percent three point shooter. I
mean that is an incredible percentage. And you can see
she's got a beautiful stroke.

Speaker 1 (10:19):
Banded boss sir, how about that? Right in front of
the South Christian bench, the senior says, I can do it.
One better nine to five Holland Christian Helmus on the attack,
got it knocked away. Good job defensively by Kira Smich
and now is steal by Helms and couldn't get the finish.
Meredith Helmet, an outstanding athlete, came up halfway through her

(10:40):
freshman year to the varsity last year and made that
tournament run. Got some good experience she's been on the
varsity and a starter halfway through the season as a sophomore.
Quick hands and didn't get rattled by throwing her way,
made a steel herself and now we'll go to the
free throw line for two.

Speaker 4 (10:57):
A little bit short on the first.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
That's kind of an interesting play there, Brett that curious
Schmidt's made the steal but then didn't have anything to
do with it. And then Meredith Helmets, she just took
it right back from her got to the free throw line.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
Helmas second one on the way, nothing but nylon one
of two nine six and favorite Holland Christian full court
pressure after the make always two two one for South Christian.
Nice job of Holland Christian crosscourt passed abandoned boss brings
at across the timeline herself skip pass over to the
right wing, extra passing the corner on the way, No,
that would short battle for the rebound and hauling it

(11:31):
down is gam Boonstra good box out at that time
for South Christian. Up ahead to helmets Helmus dribbles around
the defender. Oh, can't finish off the front of the rim.
Rebound cleared by nihawk nihawf just missed that three, She's
not afraid to pull the trigger down low Phelps reading
inside the Apple doorm got it knocked away, but then
back out to Phelps the reset right wing and now

(11:53):
through the hands of the intended receiver, here comes South Christian.
This is where the Sailors love to get out and
transition after a steal.

Speaker 4 (11:59):
They're so deadly.

Speaker 2 (12:00):
Yes, this has been great so far. Great up and
down the court action.

Speaker 1 (12:05):
Here's the slasher out top crafty point guards Sophia friends
and I know Drew Knights would like the facts. She's
left handed Friends now dribbling through traffic. There you see
the finish off the window. Can't get the kiss to
go a little bit too strong. Rebound cleared by Kate
van Apple Doorm. Now it's Kira Smit's out top Felps

(12:28):
Fake's left, wants to go right on France, nice dish
on the back door, cut Oh getting a pieceman with
woldheights on the block that time against Nihoff, bodies hit
the deck in Wow. Tie Ball situation good sportsmanship though
that time between Meredith Almus who went flying and Van
Appledorn and tie Ball gonna stay with Holland Christian to

(12:48):
our left.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
Wow.

Speaker 2 (12:50):
But they're already here in the first quarter. We're seeing
the intensity usually see at the end of the game.
These teams are really going after each other.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Brett Page Phelps the senior guard checking in. I want
to correct myself. I said Brooklyn was of the Phelps sisters,
the older she's the junior. Now Paige, you just checked in,
is the senior. And it was emotional for Kyle on
Senior night just a couple of weeks ago, he said,
I'm coaching these girls that are seniors now with my

(13:18):
oldest daughter since they were just little kids. In the
driveway nine to six hours score Holland Christian buy three
is we go unto the halfway point getting stolen. Sophia
friends with Nihoff, the quick hands back to the way,
Cam goes up No, Helmas thought she got a clean
block that time, but the official disagrees. Vandon Bosh. They

(13:41):
say she got some of the body and Cam will
go to the charity stripeer up air.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah, Meredith Helmets might have a good case there. She
had looked like a clean block. But you got to
give cam Van and Boss credit being aggressive taking it
hard to the basket and most of the time you
get rewarded when you do that.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
I'm so impressed with Cam too. She's grown a little,
but she's always had size, but just you can see
her strength in physicality, which she plays like a guard.
She can play physical. University Toledo's getting a good one. Oh,
she missed them both, which is a rarity. Coming down
with the rebound is Lizzie waldheis quick outlet up ahead
of Sofia, brands down the left sideline, gets to the baseline,
feed in the middle. Nice spin move to free herself

(14:18):
up and in strong move that time cleared down some space.
That's Rihanna not and.

Speaker 2 (14:24):
Just like that the Sailors are back to it in
one here Brett not Another one of the senior.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Leaders, Erica Brown, talked about the pre game coming off
the bench, Bandon Bosch airbollmb the three goes out of bounds.
No one touched it, so South Christian will get it back.
Just a one point game, nine to eight as we
go under three minute mark. Left to go here in
the opening quarter. Great pace to this one already little
one two chi matchup zone. I'll they leave wide open

(14:50):
and she kicks it out after she got it. Now
they try to feed it back to not knocked away,
but friends digs it out to Waldheus out top. They'll
reset with Meredith Helmets running the point in the circles
wide opening. It is not boy, she's got a lot
of space this time, wheels and deals to the left
side and with a finish with the left hand. Boy,
just too much open space in the lane for her.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
That's right, and give credit to South for really exploiting that.

Speaker 3 (15:13):
Just you're gonna give it to us. We're gonna take it.

Speaker 4 (15:16):
Half court trapped as they crossed the timeline.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
Now South fisted against the Maroons, they really can pick
up the defensive intensive their long arms. Now Bandonbosch for
the lane, got it blocked, running it down though defensively
Paige Phelps now reset the Vanden Bosch watched by Prince,
kicks it left side tock Corey rit Or ankor just
check in that junior shooting guard now bandonboss for three
from the front, no long care. Sophia Prince, great rebounder

(15:41):
at four per game, runs it down friends on the
left side lane with a strong hand, can't finish over
Vandon Bosch tapped out. They're gonna say last touch by
the Sailor's boy. South Christian is kidding. When you look
at their shot charts and good looks in the bank,
they just can't get it to trot.

Speaker 2 (15:55):
You had no question about it, Sophia waiting for Sophia
Prince to get going. You know the Maroons know all
about her. It was last year in the district finals.
Sophia Prin's a career high thirty points in that game,
double overtime win for the Sailors.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
He's gotten some good looks already in this one. Bold
court pressure all almost a step in steel. Oh Brett
Pakita with the save there knocking it away for South Christian.
Was Abby Prince freshman just checking in the younger sister.
You talk about a family of fair tom You're gonna
see it as these benches go deeper ten to nine
south fisted by one. After that last bucket, one point

(16:31):
thirty left to go on this opening quarter. Nice kick
opposite against the matchup's own very active. Now another deflection
you see knocked away Lily knits in the front court
and traveling into the call Cam Boonsta lost to handle.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
We'll go back to the way and by the way.

Speaker 1 (16:44):
This opening quarter with unbelievable pace brought to you by
a straight line Fence, a fencing company, Grand Rapids with
a personal touch, offering both residential and commercial fencing projects
serving central, Northern.

Speaker 4 (16:54):
And West Michigan.

Speaker 1 (16:54):
Call today for your free estimate at six one six
three four four nine or because it stree Line Fences
dot com. Repikeet along with Tom Kendra. Now the officials
are waiting for something to clear. I don't know if
there was a moisture on the floor or not, but
here we go. Holland Christian on the imbounds across the

(17:17):
timeline with the dribble Brooklyn Phelps kick opposite three on
the way too strong that time. On the step in
by Page Phelps gets the rebound kick opposite Nihoff. They
the three a dribbles around her defender went up and
got her shot blocked. Good job by Briannon Nod. He's
been active in the paint on both ends. Friends pushing

(17:37):
up ahead, here's Booster. Booster goes baseline way too strong,
off the top of the board, no call, and then
hitting the deck hard as she tried to follow. It
was the freshman Abbey Prins. She was hammered and we'll
go to the free throw line for repair.

Speaker 2 (17:51):
Kind of interesting so far, Brett. We're seeing a lot
of zone defenses by both teams. But what I've been
impressed with is the offense is the way they attack
the zones. Yeah, I think tom Izzo Spartans could learn
something about the way you're supposed to attack a zone defense,
getting it into the middle and being aggressive.

Speaker 1 (18:08):
I told you both these teams. I hadn't seen howand
Christian this year in person. I've seen South twice, but
really good and passing the basketball. It doesn't stay in
one player's hands, and that's going to get you a
lot of easy buckets and a lot of good looks
at three as Prince knocks out the first.

Speaker 4 (18:23):
But I'm seeing the same thing, like you said with Holland.

Speaker 1 (18:25):
CHRISTI they're feeding the middle at the free throw line
and then kicking opposite and getting a good look at threes.
He just can't knock it down. Happy Prince gets some boats,
she'll check out Lizzie woldheist back in for Erica Brown
is South Christian. Now he's going their lead to the
biggest so far to Night three, twelve nine, with forty
nine point three seconds left to go in this opening
quarter District Trophy championship on the line, trying to get

(18:49):
to the regional next week. It'll be Monday and Wednesday
games for the ladies to stay opposite. The boys will
have quarterfinals on Tuesday. Trying to feed the post, oh
and knock away from behind, and I know the South
Christian fans didn't like to call. They're trying to get
it to Kira Smith's and a reach around. Let's see
who they get on the foul and they're gonna find

(19:14):
four South Christian Bannon not now wide open on the inbounds.
Good playoff of screen. They go to the big Gal
Smith's five eleven senior in the post.

Speaker 2 (19:24):
Yeah they just lost her there an easy lay up there.
That was one of those where the screener then rolls
to the basket. Was open down low, unable to finish
that time was lily knits, bodies hit the deck, tied
up possession.

Speaker 1 (19:37):
Are gonna stay with South Christian to our right, twelve
eleven Sailors by one, sixteen point six seconds left to go.
South Christian won way back December sixth by eleven in
the regular season inning fifty five to forty four. Holland
Christian on a deflection on the inbounds but right to
a Sailor and now on the way the South fall
can't dial it up for Boonstrow rebound Vandenbosch. She'll bring

(20:00):
in the front quarter South down to five seconds, down
to four guarded by woldheis dribbling around left wing. Gonna
pull the trigger for three to two strong and that's
the way the quarter ends after eight minutes. In the book,
say this Division two District final for the ladies. Our
score South Christian twelve, Holland Christian eleven back with second
quarter action after this, as you're listening to the road

(20:21):
of the pluson center presented by MKD Funeral homes here
on ninety six to one the game twelve eleven. South
Christian over Holland Christian after one tonight starting lineups brought
to you by Sporting You branding your success since twenty twelve,
and they have what you need to look your best.
They make us look our best on Friday nights, whether

(20:42):
it's football and basketball season. Check out their gear and
imager around line at Sporting the Letter YOUU dot com.
After the quarter breakdown low, oh, how did that bounce out?
It was behind the rim kind of bouncing there for
a second and falled off the right side unable to
convert was Kate Van Appeldorn. Beautiful high low that time,
right out of the set out of the quarter break

(21:04):
and a beautiful pass to set her up that time
by Smith's two free throws first one too strong by
Van Apple, doorm.

Speaker 4 (21:13):
And Tom.

Speaker 1 (21:14):
That's been kind of the story of the night for both teams.
I think the quality of shots that coaches gotta be
happy you can't knock him down.

Speaker 2 (21:20):
That's right there, maybe before maybe rushing the shots a
little bit once they're there, because they know the pressure
is coming. The long arms and legs of a South
Christian and makes it hard to get shots off sometimes.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
So Van Apple Doorn misses a bust remains a one
point game in favorite South Christian twelve eleven. How about
our leading scorers Tom both ways after one. I know
it's pretty balanced both sides.

Speaker 2 (21:43):
Yeah, very balanced scoring and I guess no surprise Cam
van Denbosh the star player for Holland Christian, she's got
five points, but the leading scorer for South Christian off
the bench Brianna Not with a couple of buckets and
four points.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
Brianna Not just got to block their down low by
Van der Bosh, and I think three seconds going to
be the call against South Christian. So Holland Christian gets
it back here.

Speaker 2 (22:08):
They're sticking with that two to two to one full
court pressure they've had since the beginning of the game. Again,
I think to try to speed things up. They want
a higher scoring game, well schooled.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Though they break it across the time by vandabots double team.
Now waldeye get a little gravvy right in front of
the South Christian bench.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
Helmus was over there too.

Speaker 1 (22:27):
Let's us make sure it was on woldheist, but an
easy call for the official. It was goldheis her first,
by the way, coming back in after the quarter break,
and I think she's been great as far as not
hesitating to fire it is. Adeline Nihoff is now the
deflection on the inbounds for Holland Christian.

Speaker 4 (22:44):
Tied up possessionar are.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
Going to go on favorite South Christian South Christian. The
way I can best describe to our audits if you
haven't seen them, as I told you, they're long athletes,
They're very active, and they're very handsy. What I mean
by that they get a lot of deflections on loose balls.
Tough to pass against them, whether it's against their full
court pressure or in the half court when they do
the matchup zone. Meredith Helms has it left side, try

(23:06):
to skip it over. As I say that right at
Q Holland Christian did the same thing back to them.
Good read on the deflection by Phelps right wing with
it Brooklyn Phelps in the middle pass opposite that's ny
haf Nihoff now to a cutting Phelps too hot, couldn't
handle it rebound, I should say, steal by Sophia Prince
tripling through traffic.

Speaker 4 (23:26):
Nice pass over to.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
Her teammate laying it up and in his lily Nits
boy nich just is always right around the basket and
always has her hands ready for a pass. Beautiful assist
by Sophia Prince.

Speaker 2 (23:38):
Yeah, you're right, she was ready, and Prinz knows knows
where to get the ball to her teammates extra.

Speaker 1 (23:43):
Passover Nihoff, one of their better three point shooters, air ball,
but right to camp Vandabot's No.

Speaker 5 (23:48):
One.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
They are the backside rebounding for South Christian.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
No, you gotta be gotta be alert and you know,
bock somebody out.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
They didn't do it at that time. It was easy
put back for Van.

Speaker 1 (23:58):
Denbosch six fifteen and Tikey left to go. First half,
still a one point game in favor of the Sailors
fourteen thirteen. Prince and Helma's out front attacking kind of
a one to two two or three two if you
will match up zone. They feed the middle, kick out corner. Yes,
that's Mitts credit the assists that time to Rihanna Nott.
How about senior to senior there Tom Kendrick.

Speaker 2 (24:19):
Yes, and that's textbook. That's how you break his own.
You get it into the middle, it collapses, you kick
it out for an open three.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
How about this kick opposite Nihof for three? No, and
what do we have. We're gonna get an a legal
screen that time to free Nihoff. Guilty party is gonna
be Kate Van Apple Door on the six to one
junior center, Erica Brown calling Lily Knits over real quick.
That's just the first, by the way on Van Apple
Door and she might be the name of the Knight

(24:45):
seventeen thirteen South Christian by four looking to add to
their lead here. Well, the Sailors have been aggressive in
the kit going great ball movement. That's been a big
key for them.

Speaker 4 (24:55):
Tonight.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
Helmus feeds the middle, trying it back her way down.
Oh nice block that Abby Prince tried to follow it
after the block that time as they got it in
the post to Brandon not but a beautiful block by
Van Apple doorm. And I love the way she kept
her for the county, didn't just reach over the top
and got the deflection.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Yeah, she's you know Van Apple dorm. She's six to one,
tallest player out there. She can doesn't always need to jump.

Speaker 1 (25:20):
Sophia Prince on the baseline cut off gets a dough
to not now high pass to Helmets down the lane
with a stoop upping in Meredith Helmus is super sophomore
with a nice finish and that's where she's at her best.

Speaker 4 (25:33):
Off the dribble.

Speaker 2 (25:34):
Yeah, nice aggressive take to the basket for a sophomore.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
Gotta be king good young players out here.

Speaker 1 (25:39):
Brett Oh abandon Bosh to a cutting Phelps, can't get
the runner to go battle for the rebound. I'll box
out Waldheiss Oh almost threw it away, gets it to
her junior backcourt mate, Sophia Prince. Push up to Meredith
Helmets right baseline, now to Prince. Beautiful pass and what
a finish with a strong hand the left hand Helmas
to Prince and the lead has grown to eight. Time out.

(26:02):
Holland Christian pretty basketball sailor, faithful on their feet. We'll
see if it's a thirty or a full time out.
It's full, so we'll step us out as well. South
Christian twenty one, Holland Christian thirteen four to forty seven
left to go. First half as your listened. Division two
District Fauna with the Ladies Tonight, brought to you by
lmcu here on ninety six to one the game. Repigin

(26:33):
and Tom Kendrim courtside here at Hopkins time. Joe aired
the third member of our career. You're gonna hear from
Joe coming up with a rapid radio scoreboard updates. That's
all the Wholt Steps in Physical Therapy halftime show. We've
still got four to forty seven left to play in
the second quarter, but tonight's players have worked hard to
get their bodies ready for competition, and Host Steps in
Physical Therapy wants you to stay at the game no
matter what level of activity you desire. They get patients

(26:55):
it within twenty four to forty eight hours. Host Jepson
Physical Therapy twenty three plus lowcation across West Michigan to
serve you and growing, restoring body, reviving spirit.

Speaker 4 (27:05):
Holland Christian.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Now after the time out of the basketball, deflected away
Helmets with a steal up ahead, leads to pack and
lays it up and in Meredith helmet is picking it
up here in the second court of the lead is.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
Ten wow and eleven to two edge in the second
corridor for South Christian Helmets with four points. Lily knits
the senior with five points. Holland Christian is a little
bit of a danger zone right here, Brett. They need
to settle themselves down before this game gets away from them.

Speaker 4 (27:33):
See what I was talking about.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
Where South Christian, those deflections just kick their transition games
sort of like Michigan State right into full court motor.
They can put a run on you down low, kick opposite.
Now trying to go baseline, Nihoff goes up not stronger
than the basketball knocked away. Abby Prians up ahead to
older sisters. Sophia Prince ahead of the pack, lays it
up and in no one back for Holland Christian and
the Sailors, making them bay Wow up.

Speaker 3 (27:57):
To a thirteen to two run. Brett. It was just
a one point lead at the quarter. Now they're up twelve.

Speaker 1 (28:02):
Now reach in foul South Christian. But that's okay. Here
her teammates cheering her on because they love the aggressiveness.
Lily Nit's gonna get called with her hand.

Speaker 4 (28:11):
In the cookie jar.

Speaker 1 (28:12):
But you know, on the other end, Holland Christian has
had a nice job of getting it inside or where
they've dribble penetrated. They just haven't taken up very strong,
and South Christian's getting inflections and it's.

Speaker 4 (28:22):
Leaving his steals and back the other way.

Speaker 1 (28:25):
Got to make sure and go up strong to make
the official blow that whistle.

Speaker 2 (28:29):
And those are things you can get away with against
the inferior competition. Right when you're playing a team like
South Christian, you like you say, you've got to go
up strong with the ball.

Speaker 1 (28:37):
Look at him extend out that two three matchup zone.
Nice kick opposite right wing. Oh, they just cannot get
a three to go down. Another good look as coming
off the bench for Holland Christian Abigail Paxson, the five
to nine junior number forty, and she could knock it down.
Rebound tapped out of bounds will break for the Maroons.
They'll keep the possession of the far into our left.

Speaker 2 (28:56):
I mentioned in the first meeting Colin Christian with zero threes,
just one and by cam Vandenbosch so far tonight.

Speaker 1 (29:03):
Yeah, and she tried to dial up a deep three
there no back to the way Net's block by vandon Bosch.
Sophia Prince has it now hits the deck, loses it
running it down though, Aby Prince to the rescue the
freshman younger sister. Here's Meredith Helmet's on there deck. Get
said jan so quick with that first step is number
fourteen and Meredith Helms beautiful drive that time and a

(29:25):
finish you'leven and one opportunity.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
Yeah, you're seeing the quickness of South Christian is a
little bit more athletic and it's showing they, like I said,
they want this game to be fast, and right now
it's a very fast game.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
How about Meredith Helms.

Speaker 2 (29:39):
She is a great athlete, just a sophomore and she's
gonna be a name to remember.

Speaker 1 (29:44):
Averaging seven points per game. But that just keeps creeping
up as the season goes on. And before she can
shoot the free throw, we'll see it's a thirty second
time out.

Speaker 4 (29:53):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (29:54):
We'll keep it right here. Remind you this road to
the brus and Center coverage for both the boys and
the Girls being brought to you by m A Funeral Homes,
every story, every moment, every day since nineteen thirty seven,
folks through four generations. That respective family tradition continues at
MKD Funeral Homes by creating distinctive celebrations of life at
the greatest possible value. For more information about pre planning priser.

(30:16):
To find a location near you, go to mkdfeuderal home
dot com. Now with eight locations in West Michigan, to
serve you. So after the thirty second time out, Meredith Helmets,
the sophomore at the free throw line, trying to convert
the three point play of the old fashioned way, and
if she does, it'll give South Fisting their biggest lead
of the night.

Speaker 4 (30:34):
At fifteen.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
Spins, little ball rotation on the way left it short
battle for the rebound. Look at Helmets, she runs it
down and another look on the opportunity and the offensive
set for South Christian. Kyle Phelps not happy. He is
Roman marching up and down the sidelines.

Speaker 2 (30:49):
And right now every loose ball, every fifty to fifty
ball is going the way a South Christian. Holland Christian
has got to dig in right now, just.

Speaker 4 (30:56):
The effort plays.

Speaker 1 (30:57):
You're absolutely right, Lily Nitch going baseline, good job cutting
her off. Holland Christian trying to turn up the defense Coxing,
good job. Abby Prins down the lane, drives no, but
she was fouled, got over the body to cam vand
in bosh And how about the freshman confident to make
that dribble drive through traffic.

Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah, we're seeing the youth lead the way, not only
Meredith Helmas. There, Abby Prin's getting involved.

Speaker 4 (31:24):
Isn't it funny too?

Speaker 1 (31:25):
Like I said, not necessarily the same with the Woldheigh sisters,
because Lizzie is pretty good size as a junior. But
when you look at Sophia and then you look at Abby,
you would think Sophia is the freshman and younger because
of the size diffrigerator and different players. I mean, Abby's
more of a post player and could do that with
her size, where Sofia the point guard. No doubt about it.
For South Christian, Abby can't get the second one, missed

(31:48):
him both. Twenty seven thirteen Rebound Holland Christian. Here's the
player they got to get going. Their senior leader Cam
Vandenbosch said, a rough shooting night. Credit the South Christian defense.
Dribles down the left side of lane underneath the basket,
kicks out ball rotation. Good look at a three, but
that one's way off the mark. Airball by Brooklyn Phelps
did not go out of bounce though, save by Abby Prince.

(32:10):
Here come the sailor's back on the attack. Look at
friends down the lane. No one picked her up to
the rack. Can't finish it, rolls off the front of
the rim. Rebound cleared there by Apple Dorm.

Speaker 2 (32:19):
Critical final two minutes here for Holland Christian. They gotta
get a couple of buckets, least get some confidence. They
only have two points this quarter.

Speaker 1 (32:27):
I think your goal's got to be to try to
get in single digits right before they head to the
locker room.

Speaker 4 (32:31):
Van Apple Door down low against Abby Prince.

Speaker 2 (32:34):
Or at least get something positive going, some kind of
something to feel good about.

Speaker 1 (32:38):
Van Appledorm against Abby Prince. I thought she got fouled
a little bit, no call, so did Kyle Phelps ball
loose bandiboss trying to run it down, saves it, but
right to Meredith Almes and she dribbled off a foot.
Look at Lily Knits hit the deck and say it
for South Christian. Over to Sophia Prince in the corner,
goes baseline kick opposite Waldheis. Does it take the three

(32:58):
drive finish with the left and half No. Abby Prince
out comes flying in. She gets the rebounded as fouled
as she tries to go back up. It's almost like
right now, with the effort we're seeing from South Christian,
they're playing with an extra player.

Speaker 4 (33:11):
It looks like that out there.

Speaker 2 (33:12):
It does look that way, and you think it would
be the other way around. You think it would be
Holland Christian, you know, looking to get get a little payback,
but really impressed so far with the Sailors.

Speaker 3 (33:21):
They are energized tonight.

Speaker 1 (33:24):
And how about this thirteen game winning streak coming in
as the freshman Abbey Prince rattles the first one home
twenty one and two overall folks eleven and one in
what I would say maybe next to only the Okay Red,
the toughest Oka Division and girls basketball there was.

Speaker 4 (33:38):
And the ok Gold. You're looking at whaling in there.
Who is in this district?

Speaker 1 (33:42):
You're looking at Norfew who's improved this year? Obviously West
Catholic who is trying to make four straight runs to
the Breslin Center if they can pull it off this year,
Still alive in district lay tonight, I mean unbelievable. Then
South Christian and South Christian West Catholic end up being
coach Champson splitting it trends. Couldn't get the free throw
on the second attempt. Here comes Holland Christian. Finally, Abby

(34:03):
Friends gonna be whistled for a file. I think Holland
Christian fans have said, oh, we'll wait for that a
couple of minutes ago as but that the Phelps gets
knocked to the deck.

Speaker 2 (34:12):
You know, Bret, you make a very good point there
about the Okay goal, how strong it is when you
play that game in, game out type of competition. It
makes you better, There's no question about it. And I
think that's really helped this South Christian team.

Speaker 1 (34:27):
And Okay Black division that Holland Christian went out right
not bad, but I wouldn't say as deep certainly as
what we've seen of the Okay goal. To your point,
town banded boss Ribling to look at her double teams
with helmets helping now tries to leave it for coxin
and she is fouled a little bit too aggressive that
time was Lily Nitz the senior find to reach in

(34:48):
and knock it away.

Speaker 4 (34:49):
Twenty eight to thirteen.

Speaker 1 (34:50):
South Christian biggest in the nine fifteen with fifty four
point two seconds left, and that will be because of
their aggressive play. The fifth foul this quarter against South Christian.
So it's gonna send Abigail Coxon to.

Speaker 2 (35:02):
The Firth Hill line trying to end an almost six
minute scoring drought here for the Maroons.

Speaker 1 (35:07):
Boy, that was a line drive, no good off the
back guard. The other thing that people need to understand
with the rule change is no more one in one.

Speaker 4 (35:14):
It doesn't exist.

Speaker 1 (35:15):
It's all two shots now once you get to the bonus,
which again in girls basketball, as I was telling you, Tom,
you just don't see very often.

Speaker 4 (35:22):
Tough to get to five thousand a quarter.

Speaker 1 (35:24):
If you do, it's like this where there's less than
a minute left and stepping over the line is Coxon.

Speaker 4 (35:30):
So a missed opportunity here for Holly Christian Boy.

Speaker 1 (35:32):
They have really struggled tonight, Tom, But this first half
of the free throw line.

Speaker 2 (35:35):
Yeah, they just seem to be completely out of sync
after a great start. Really, they got off to a
good start in this game. But they've scored about four
points I think over the last twelve minutes of the game.

Speaker 1 (35:47):
Down low, Oh, great block that time Nihoff coming over
to help. I don't think, not realize you was there.
Thought she was all on the left block. Now, Sophia
Prince getting it back. Trible drive of the baseline kick
opposit and the trip all is up and good. Lizzie Waldheiser, second.

Speaker 6 (36:02):
Of a game.

Speaker 4 (36:04):
That's what she does best.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
And now in trouble vandabass so Fia friends with a
steal and Niha fowls her otherwise there's gonna be a breakaway.
See if she's all right? Gie. It was in at Burke,
but she took a slap right across the face. Boy,
you know the other way I would describe South Christian defensively.

Speaker 4 (36:21):
You just don't see this too often.

Speaker 1 (36:23):
A girl's basketball relentless. I mean, they just keep coming,
don't they When they smell blood in the water. Look
out and right now Holland Christian just trying to survive,
to get to the locker room in the court and
the halftime break. So Fia Prince, silky smooth with the
first high arching shot, knocks it down.

Speaker 4 (36:43):
Coming in for the Sailors.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
By the way, Kayleie Quist senior also getting in there.
Natalie woldheis for the first time tonight. She's the freshman,
younger sister of Lizzie Woldeice. Sofia Prince too strong of
the second rebound Van Appldoorn. Let's see if Polan Christian
you can get something going here. They get to Cam
Vandon Bosh cam left wing working against Quist gets it

(37:07):
over to Brook, then Phelps back to cam see if
they use a high screen. Four we're down to eight.
We're down to seven vanditbosh left had to dribble down
the lane. Float No, but she's smiled. Help sign coming over.
Let's see you. It's against for South Christian. Four point
seven seconds left and I think they're gonna get Kaylee

(37:28):
Quist on the file for South Christian or first bandon
Bosh boy. They are just off too strong. How many
miss free throws is? That seems like about six or
seven at least.

Speaker 4 (37:41):
One more upcoming.

Speaker 2 (37:42):
Then they're zero for six from the free throw line.
Now they're one for seven from the free throw line
in the second quarter.

Speaker 1 (37:48):
Wow, and you mentioned the stat oh for eighteen from
three point land in the first meeting. Runner by Fritz
got it to go. Wow, the soft time pots looking
the smiles for South Christian and one away to finish
the half. They beat the buzzer and they'll go into
the locker room up twenty at the break thirty four
fourteen over Holland Christian. Stay with us the host Jefson

(38:09):
Physical Therapy halftime show.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
Is coming up next.

Speaker 1 (38:12):
We'll send it back to the studio and we've got
a sponsor spotlight with Kids Food Basket, our great friends
and how you can help with the cause of volunteering.
Plus we'll tell you about their new location coming soon
in Misskegan. That's all we continue as you're listening to
the Road to the Rusident Center presented by MKD Funderholmes Live.
You're on ninety six to one the game back here

(38:44):
court Sun as we get set to start the second
half reficket along with Tom Kenner, we apologize.

Speaker 4 (38:48):
With technical difficulties.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
Got a brand new system we're kind of working in
and so we got it taking care of Thank you,
Joe ern just underweight here, Holland Christian to start the
second half of the basketball down twenty what around by
South Christian down low, that's the way you want to
start it. They feed on the low block to Kia Spitz.
She gets the bucket at his file. That that'll give
us a chance to go through our first half. Individual
scoring summary, Tom, it was all South Christian, especially that

(39:13):
second quarter.

Speaker 3 (39:13):
No question about it.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
The two leading scorers for South Christian, neither of them
had a basket in the first quarter, but in that
second quarter, it was Sophia Prince and Meredith Helmus both
with seven.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Points to lead the way.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
It's Natalie Woldheisch has six, Lily Knits with five, Brianna
Knatt off the bench with four, and Abby Prins off
the bench with three.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Cammy Boonster has two.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
For Holland Christian, it's been just they got to get
someone besides cam Vandenbosch going. She had eight of the
fourteen points. No one else with more than two points.
Brooklyn Phelps with two, Abby Coxon with two and Adeline
Nihoff with two.

Speaker 1 (39:50):
Kiera Smitch just converted a free throw too, which was
a thorn in their side. For Holland Christian, they did
not shoot the ball on the first half to get
heard the three point play, so maybe that gets him going. Meanwhile,
the other Boonstra on the extra pass in the middle
from not got the layup. And now Brooklyn Phelps has
traveled shuffled defeat that time against the matchup zone of
South Christians.

Speaker 4 (40:10):
So we'll go back to the Sailors thirty six to seventeen.

Speaker 1 (40:13):
The first half scoring summary brought to you by MKD
Funeral Homes. Go to MKD funeral home dot com. That's singular.
Now to find out more about which location is near you.
They have eight in West Michigan and also information about
pre planning, pricing and more. Thirty six to seventeen District
final action tonight on the road to the Buzzd's Center
here on ninety six to one the game repecket along
with Tom Kendra nice bounce pass opposite oh Waldeyes missed

(40:35):
the bunny off the feed from not but that was
the difference Tome Tenner the first half that extra pass
for easy looks for South Christian banded Boss trying to
answer off the mark off the right side of the rim.

Speaker 4 (40:46):
Rebound cleared by Waldeyes.

Speaker 1 (40:48):
Now needs some help, so he picked up for dribble
close to a ten second called now Steel had to
just get rid of it. Brooklyn Phelps bounce passed down
low blocked by Sophia Friends that time against the much
taller Schmid's What a block by Prims not to fall.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
Wow, great job that time.

Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yeah against the six to one Apple Van appledoring there
now the bounce pass down lo.

Speaker 1 (41:10):
Yes, Hannawan just like we saw earlier. Kiera Smith's five
eleven senior. She's a power forward, very strong on that
post and she is a mismatch for South christ That's
the one thing South Christian doesn't necessarily have. They have size,
and they have different athletes with size, but they don't

(41:31):
have really a bolk type of player to match up
with the size of Smith's.

Speaker 3 (41:36):
That's right, they're uh talland skinny.

Speaker 1 (41:40):
Waldheis probably might be the best defender that junior, but
she's more of a perimeter player. And how about Smith's
back to back and ones And it's now a sixteen
point game. Both core pressure by the Maroons and now
Meredith Helmus didn't realize the defense was there on the
far sideline. Dribbles a lot of bounds and the Maroon
faithful on their fear. Here comes Holland Christian.

Speaker 2 (41:59):
Yeah, a little sick to two run to start the
second half here and now they got the ball again.
This would be huge if they were able to get
another bucket or maybe a three.

Speaker 4 (42:06):
Here.

Speaker 1 (42:07):
Brett definitely working it inside. You can see that as
now phelps with the runner no off the window, follow
by Apple going up and in. They're going right to
their size with Smith's and Apple going and out.

Speaker 4 (42:18):
Eric G.

Speaker 1 (42:19):
Brown gonna take a time out. The lead is cut
to fourteen top Kenry.

Speaker 3 (42:23):
Hey, what give them credit?

Speaker 2 (42:25):
They came out of the half motivated and they're trying
to get back into this game.

Speaker 1 (42:30):
Said twenty win team. It's a full time out, so
we'll step aside as well. We'll trying to get some
scores from Joe Aaron on the backside. Six twenty one
left to go into third. It's now a fourteen point game.
South Christian thirty six Island Christian twenty two.

Speaker 4 (42:41):
On the road to the Resident Center. You're on ninety
six to one. The game.

Speaker 7 (42:50):
Back inside the nine six won the game Studios Quick
Rapid Radio scoreboard and other district finals here in girls basketball,
Grant leads part of twenty to seven at the half
Rockford over a moment, sure is thirty six thirteen. Oh's
with that, and while Catholic Central big on Grand Rivers Christian.

Speaker 1 (43:05):
Thirty six to thirteen.

Speaker 7 (43:07):
Let's head back to Hobskin High School for South Christian
and Holland Christian. Brett Pakita and Tom Kendra.

Speaker 1 (43:13):
All right, Joe, we'll keep an eye on those. Plus
the Red Wings in action over I'm talking call thirty eight.
They need a win so badly at Washington against alex
Ovechkin and the Capitols. South Christian almost turned it over again.
Holland Christian got a deflection. Now they beat the full
court pressure helmets out top between the rings. We'll set
up the offense for Eric Brown and the Sailors thirty

(43:35):
six twenty two on this run to start the third
quarter by Holland Christian. To tighten things up, Helmus kicks
right side. Abby Prin's in the other freshman along with
Lizzie woldheis, Brianna not Is in the middle. Sophia Prins
out of the perimeter as well. Little Michigan State weave
out front. Abby Prince picked up at dumber right side.
Now here's helmets. Helmas has the mismatch too quick. It

(43:57):
just beats the defender that time. And at nice scoop
under she got the matchup with Kira Smitch.

Speaker 4 (44:03):
It just too quick for.

Speaker 2 (44:05):
Just great speed and athletic ability by Helmus. She's been great.

Speaker 1 (44:10):
Smit's on the feed against the pressure of South Christian
lost the handle deflected a bounds they say, last touch
by Holland Christian.

Speaker 2 (44:17):
Holland Christian doing better with those two big girls like
you mentioned in the first half. Kyria Smith's just two points.
She has six in this quarter. And then Kate van
Appeldorn was scoreless in the first half the six to
one center for Holland Christian, and she's got a bucket
here in the second half. So getting those two going.

Speaker 1 (44:36):
Excuse me, tell what do they say? Teams that press
don't like to be pressed. Right now, Holland Christian has
turned the tables on South Christian. A force of Sophia
Prin's travel, she carried it so back to the Maroons
and they get it on the inbounds on the sideline
of the front court. Kyle Phelps barking out the instructions
thirty eight twenty two cam vandibasch on top against his
two to three matchup zone dribbling and deflected offer leg

(45:00):
and out of bounds. I think it's gonna be South
Christian basketball. Evelin Klingenberg five four senior check it in.

Speaker 4 (45:09):
It's good call.

Speaker 1 (45:10):
Christal's got together what off of Klingenberg's legacy. Tried to
dribble penetrate and again there's those long arms a South
Christian in that matchup's own just creating havoc.

Speaker 4 (45:19):
Abby Prince now up.

Speaker 1 (45:21):
Ahead of Sophia Prince nobody back. Sophia has her eyes
on the rim, takes it strong, no, but was bumped,
couldn't finish with the left hand. She'll get a couple
of free throws. And that's the one thing, Holland Christian.
Because they're down double digits, they have to push the
pressure up and there was no one home on the backside.

Speaker 4 (45:39):
That's aye once they beat that pressure.

Speaker 2 (45:40):
That's the problem when you when you press, you may
get a turnover too, but you're also going to give
up some easy buckets. And you know, again, Holland Christian,
that's not really their game, but it has to be
their game.

Speaker 3 (45:52):
They don't have any other choice here.

Speaker 2 (45:54):
They need to do something to try to get back
into this game in a hurry.

Speaker 1 (45:57):
Sofia Prince an outstanding free throw sho the South Bass
sets fires, leading scorer coming in at thirteen point five
per game, gets them both. If you're just tuned in.
By the way, it was a one point game. Holland
Christian got off to a great start. They only trailed
by one after eight twelve to eleven, and then South
Christian with their pressure and turnovers and fast break exploded
in that second quarter. They outscored the Maroons twenty two

(46:20):
to three to lead it by twenty at the break,
now up eighteen as we approached the midway point of
the third quarter, trying to feed it download of Smith's
don't one again, granted not. She gets to Lizzie Woldheys
in South Christany'll take their time now as they dribbled
across the timeline, leaves it for Sophia Prince, watched by Klingenberg,
feed the middle to Knot match up Manda Man pressure

(46:43):
by Holland Christian Now as Helm is guarded by Phelps,
dribble drive friends cut off nice lob over the top
tabby Prince couldn't control it, stolen by Apple dorm now
to cam Vandenbosh, who's been awful quiet that Toledo commit
pretty good deep by wold heeis honor. Klingenberg feeds it
to Smid's back to Klingenberg in the paint kick back

(47:05):
out faking the three good defense at time, Abbey prians
to know and I'm gonna call for the reach in
trying to tie up, but a little bit late Paige
Phelps that time Abby is a little too aggressive as
now wholesale substitutions for Coach Phelps, vanden Bosch, Apple Dorn

(47:26):
and Paige Phelps all check out second file against Abbey Prince.

Speaker 4 (47:30):
Third this quarter for South.

Speaker 1 (47:32):
Christian forty twenty two Sailors, trying to get back to
the regionals like they did a year ago they beat
helland Christian remember the district final in double over time
night Hawk feeding it in the middle, Brooklyn Phelps gets
it right, corner drives baseline runner no bothered by Abby Prince,

(47:52):
follow up on the backside up in good that time.
Nice job by l O Westerbeak. Ellen is doing it
first time.

Speaker 2 (48:02):
The Maroon's doing a great job on the board's offensive
rebounding here in the second half. You know, the one
thing that helps a comeback is three point shooting again,
Holland Christian just not ice cold from behind the arc
just one three. If they can get hot from behind
the three point line, then they have a chance to
cut into this lead.

Speaker 4 (48:21):
And you don't get to going now. A nice steal.

Speaker 1 (48:23):
Smith's on the reach in Klingenberg digs it out in
Here come the Maroons.

Speaker 4 (48:28):
Forty twenty four, just over three and change left to go.
Third quarter.

Speaker 1 (48:32):
Here we go Nihop dialing up the three too strong
off the backyard. Oh battle for the rebound, and wow,
what a collision that time, Abby Prince the fifteen for
South Christian running into Westerbeak the five to ten junior
for Holland Christian. And that will be against Abbey Prince.
That's her third. By the way, you gotta keep an

(48:54):
eye on this. Quietly, it's become a factor. So Lily
Nitz is on the bench with three, and now I
got Abby Friends the freshman off the bench, or usually
replaced her with three.

Speaker 4 (49:02):
Oh Smitz wasn't looking, she was open.

Speaker 1 (49:04):
But wow, what a break and unable to get the bunny.
But to follow Smith's no, oh, there's just to lid
on the rim for Holland Christian.

Speaker 4 (49:13):
Great first effort by Western Beak who couldn't get it
to go.

Speaker 2 (49:15):
Tom Yeah, and again good work on the boards, kyrias
Smith's is having a great second half. Well, you know,
just a moment ago, you had another open three for
Holland Christian. Addie Nihoff, she's a great three point shooter
and she just can't get one to fall tonight.

Speaker 1 (49:33):
Deep knee bend Smit's rolls off the front of the rim. No,
she'll get one more scoreboard up day with those district
final scores from here, Oh Joe Airpine. Brought to you
by Rapid Radios. Instantaneous communication provided.

Speaker 4 (49:45):
By Rapid Radios.

Speaker 1 (49:46):
They provided pushed to talk nationwide Walkie Chalky system with
no monthly fees and unlimited range. Great for families, kids
and businesses. Go to Rapid Radios dot com to learn more.
That's Rapid Radios dot Com. Second one out of the
way for since she knocks it down, nothing but nylon,
it's back to fifteen tom.

Speaker 4 (50:04):
Let's see what they can do here.

Speaker 1 (50:05):
They've got just under three minutes left to go in
the third or trying to make a signal day of game.
They get a steal there, dribbled off the foot down
load nithoff off the feet from banda vibes. Want to turnaround.
This is just like South Christian did to Holland christ
in the second quarter.

Speaker 3 (50:18):
Unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (50:19):
And if they can get this down down to ten
going into the fourth quarter, they got a real shot.

Speaker 4 (50:24):
Look at helm.

Speaker 1 (50:25):
It's nice feed to prims. Oh she missed the bunny
tapped out of there. Holland Christian trying to keep it alive,
Natalie Wold heist does and now do they throw it away?

Speaker 5 (50:34):
No?

Speaker 1 (50:35):
Wow, Lily knits and it was knocked away. Last touch,
they say by Brooklyn Phelps, what action here in this game?
It's been crazy.

Speaker 2 (50:44):
He's on the first half Holland Christian was very timid.
The second half they're playing much much more aggressive and
they're being rewarded for it.

Speaker 4 (50:52):
Credit coach Phelps and the understanding of you know what,
we have to do this.

Speaker 1 (50:56):
We have to go after them. We can't just sit
back with that lead. And that's what South to them
in the second quarter. The more aggressive team.

Speaker 3 (51:03):
Sometimes desperation is what a team needs.

Speaker 1 (51:07):
Ooh, nit's almost traveled and they're gonna say tie possession.

Speaker 4 (51:11):
They tied her up. It's gonna stay with South Christian
to are left.

Speaker 1 (51:14):
This third quarter flying by being brought to you by
Kids Food Basket, our official nonprofit for the LMCU High
School basketball Game of the Week. With our Baskets were
Kids campaign, I'm proud to announce LMCU donated forty eight
hundred dollars with made threes fifty per three and before
the inbound we're gonna have a reach in foul.

Speaker 4 (51:32):
Yep, Nihoff not in position that time.

Speaker 1 (51:34):
Good job by Wolfe's sneaking side of her on the
inbounds play underneath their own basket.

Speaker 4 (51:40):
Oh, that's gonna be Nihoff's third.

Speaker 1 (51:42):
Keep an eye on that is Smith's checks out back
in for Holland Christian is van appledorn down low, nourishing
local kids to reach their foot potential. That's what Kids
Food Basket is all about, folks. Almost eleven thousand meals
a school day in a four county community here West Michigan.

(52:02):
Thank you LMCU, Thank you Kids Food Basket. Forty twenty seven.
South Christian with the lead in the basketball. So we
approach two minutes left to going to the third quarter.
Holland Christian. Nice come back here in the third Helm
is now dribbling in traffic, tries to get it back
out and a turnover.

Speaker 4 (52:17):
Trying to get it to.

Speaker 1 (52:18):
Waldheis Meretith saying I got hit on the arm. No call,
But again the Maroons come up with another turnover.

Speaker 2 (52:24):
Yeah, those hands who are talking about in the first
half the hands of South Christian, it's the hands of
Holland Christian. So in the second half, getting in there
knocking the ball loose and off of South Christian. Hey
with a three pointer. Right here, we're back to a
ten point game. It was a twenty point game at
the half.

Speaker 1 (52:41):
Can you tell their rivals Tom Kendrick and with the
effort here tonight, they don't like to lose to one another,
that's for sure. A bandon boss to Brooklyn Phelps goes
Baseline nice chop to Smith's. She's been the go to
gal for Holland Christian. She's got two more, but credit
the penetration and nice assist by Brooklyn Phelps.

Speaker 2 (52:59):
Yeah, Kiria Smith's two points in the first half, nine
points in the second.

Speaker 4 (53:04):
Oh, almost another turnover.

Speaker 1 (53:06):
Waldheist was trying to get it to Knits and they're
gonna whistle foul Kyle Phelps and the whole Holland Christian
bench up on that. One guilty party is gonna be
Van Appledorn her second five files against South Christian, so
shooting the rest away as Waldheys got a RiPP away,
but Helmt's there to dig it out. She'll being across
the timeline herself so fast with a dribble gets into.

Speaker 4 (53:27):
Lilly Knits three fouls.

Speaker 1 (53:29):
By the way, this quarter for Holland Christian, who's been
more of the aggressor than South Christian defensively, it's kind
of surprising. Sophia Prinz now hesitation dribbled down the lane
walled up by Smith's out to waldheis good looking, a
three that's off the mark, right side, long carim mout
to to helmet. She runs it down and South Christian
will reset between the rings. Waldheis dribble driver a ron
Smith's with the left hand scoop popping the good nice

(53:52):
move by the junior.

Speaker 2 (53:53):
Lizzie waldheiss, Yeah, great job there's he's known as a
three point shooter.

Speaker 3 (53:57):
That time a great drive to the basket and finish
then I needed it.

Speaker 1 (54:01):
Yeah, I was gonna say, stops the bleeding for South Christian.
Bandon Bosh now gets it back between the rings. Let's
see if number four could get going. Been awful quiet
more of a distributor here, gets to the Brooklyn phelps
pull up jumper, airballed. Look at the battle van apple
doorm down low, tries to go back up and she's
fouled and if that's knits, that's her fourth. No, they're
gonna get number eleven for South Christian out of the

(54:23):
reach and that's Brianna knots that's her second.

Speaker 4 (54:26):
But every foul.

Speaker 1 (54:27):
Now I know there's only thirty three seconds left shooting
for Holland Christian.

Speaker 2 (54:31):
It's just funny the way momentum whork's in the game
of basketball, Brett. In the first half, every loose ball
was going to a South Christian. Here in the third quarter,
every loose ball was going to the Maroons.

Speaker 1 (54:42):
And now Holland Christian's starting to at least are not
hitting their threes but knocking down their free throws. First,
one high archer up and good for Van Appledorn, she
gets this one.

Speaker 4 (54:51):
Tom.

Speaker 1 (54:52):
Like you mentioned, it's an eleven point game on the way,
got it forty two thirty one. Full court pressure there,
keep it a loud and why not for the Maroons
into Wald heis back to nits Nit's dribbles up ahead,
all deflection and coming up with it. Oh, Phelps are
gonna say, step down the sideline cow Phelps is saying,
on you sure, and the official turns around and says, yep,

(55:14):
I am.

Speaker 4 (55:15):
But he loves the effort.

Speaker 1 (55:16):
Another deflection there, Try to get it to Sophia Prince.

Speaker 2 (55:20):
Yeah, you made another great point Brett earlier and he
said a team that presses doesn't like to be pressed,
and it doesn't right now.

Speaker 1 (55:26):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (55:27):
South Christian not doing a good job.

Speaker 2 (55:30):
It's almost like they're trying to get the vault the
court too quickly and they're turning it over.

Speaker 1 (55:35):
Really extending out their pressure to Holland Christian like we
saw South Christian do in this one to two matchups oone.
They get it in the middle, right elbow, look out
for the backside. Not almost got it. Stripped down to six,
down to five, Sophia Prince had to drive off the window.
No rebound cleared. They don't realize they got to heave
it three quarter a corner. It won't even get there,
but a great attempt. Nonetheless, I didn't think they were

(55:56):
even gonna get it off by Brooklyn Phelps, So things
up a bit. Holland Christian winning that third quarter and
it's eleven point game as we head to the final
eight minutes. South Christian forty two, Holland Christian thirty one.
You're listening to Division two District Final live from Hopkins
Eye on a Friday night here on ninety six to one.

Speaker 4 (56:15):
The game.

Speaker 7 (56:18):
Back in the nine six one the game Studios Quick
Rapid Radio scoreboard. You heard Brapakeita mentioned the Red Wings
in dire need of a win tonight. At the end
of the first period over on Talk twelve thirty w KEKG,
the Red Wings lead the Capitals two to one. We'll
keep you posted as this game goes on. Let's head
back quart side Brepaketo and Tom Kenjock.

Speaker 4 (56:37):
All right, thank you, Joe.

Speaker 1 (56:38):
Yeah, they need one and cam Vandenbosh almost diled up
at three. It popped out battle for the rebound and
Alan Christian thought it should be their basketball deflect off
of South Christian, but officials disagree. Full court pressure by
the Maroons after the miss deflection, Bandon Bosch trying to
dig it out and oh they're gonna get kam Vandenbosch
with the file.

Speaker 4 (56:57):
That's a tough one. I agree with Kyle Phelps.

Speaker 1 (56:59):
I thought you got a piece of the ball before
the contact. Nonetheless, it's only at first She's not in
any foul trouble.

Speaker 4 (57:08):
Eleven point games.

Speaker 1 (57:09):
South Christian on the inbound Sofia Prince now brings across
the time by who almost lost it and carried it,
but they say play on man and man pressure defense.
Now by Howland Christian switching things up, and it's vandenbosh
On Prince pressing her out top. Prince has her with
a speed category. But let's see what South Christian wants
to do here. Remember no shot clock in high school basketball, Tom.

Speaker 2 (57:34):
No, don't need one today though. The way these two
teams are going at each other, it's been fun.

Speaker 4 (57:38):
Forty two thirty one.

Speaker 1 (57:44):
Erica Brown wants to take some time with the Sailors,
try to milk the clock here Meredith Helmets drilling out front.
It's Van apple Dorn and she lost the handle and
out of bounce, trying to be aggressive. And now I
think Kyle Phelps is saying I want to talk things
over and maybe switch his defensive started. Let's see if
it's a thirty or a full. It's gonna be a

(58:07):
full timeout, so we'll step uside as well. Seven oh
one left to go on this one Division two District final.
South Christian on the girls side of Rholland Christian forty
two thirty one back with board Mike Gains Gymnasium.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
After this on ninety six to one, the game.

Speaker 1 (58:30):
Repicated Tom Gndra back here in court sid Hopkins High School,
full court pressure after the time out by South Christian
and they get a tie up and it's in favor
of the Sailors, So turn over by the Maroons. Just
under seven minutes left to go on this. When we
get a chance, we'll do our wing doozy fan of
the game. Remember if you've been a win doozy fan
of the game this season. As booster turned wide open,

(58:52):
the free thrown said, I'm just gonna fire. That was
halfway down, but pops out rebound Brookly then Pelps working
against Helmets cut off there.

Speaker 4 (58:59):
Good job by Meredith down low.

Speaker 1 (59:02):
Now Van Apple Doorn step through and can't finish battle
for the rebound. Lizzie Wolhei sticks it out for South Christian.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
Big opportunity loss there for Holland Christian and easy easy
layout just couldn't get it.

Speaker 5 (59:17):
You go.

Speaker 1 (59:19):
Both teams got to be a little bit careful here
with their dribble penetration just because they're kind of getting
lulled into maybe a Steeler someone deflecting it from behind
to the side. Sophia France Oh against Vnapple door and
she's got the advantage there and out of wolheis extra.

Speaker 4 (59:35):
Pass but deflected.

Speaker 1 (59:36):
Nihoff back to the way, has a clear lane of
the basket, goes up and puts it in. Maybe that'll
get her going. Adlin Nihoff another senior playing with some desperation.
It's a nine point game.

Speaker 2 (59:47):
Yeah, the Maroons back in the game despite their star
cam Vandenbosch.

Speaker 3 (59:51):
She hasn't scored in this half, so if she gets.

Speaker 1 (59:53):
Going, look out with the runner in a fowl. How
about that answer by the junior point guard for the Sailors,
and and one opportunity coming up, and let's do it
right now. We'll take caller four to our studios. Joe
Aeron stating, by our wing Doosey, fan of the game,
you're gonna score. Twenty five dollars gift guard to the
best wings in West Michigan and Oldo's fries. So good
that number six, one, six, four, five, four, thirty seven,

(01:00:18):
seventy six. Remember, if you won during the basketball season,
you're not eligible for the football season.

Speaker 4 (01:00:22):
That's fine, we reset for the season.

Speaker 1 (01:00:24):
Twenty five dollars gift guard to wing Doozy call her
four to our studio lines.

Speaker 4 (01:00:28):
Sophia friz easily knocks down the.

Speaker 1 (01:00:31):
Three point player making the free throw and against sixty
one six four five, four thirty seven seventy six good
luck foul was whistled by the way against Phelps her
third forty five thirty three deep three Van and Boss
just can't tile it up, Van Apple during got her
hand on it, deflected out last touch by Holland Christian Boy.

Speaker 4 (01:00:53):
Just a rough shooting night for a senior.

Speaker 1 (01:00:55):
And what could be your final game before she's off
to the University Toledo. And I've seen her when she
can fill it up, Tom, she's just off a little bit,
catching it the front of the ram or the back
of the ram. Sofia Prince dribbling around the double team
up ahead to Abby, her younger sister kicking the corner.
Wald Heys for three, got it, Lizzie Walheis? How big
was that triple? To give them some breathing room, how.

Speaker 3 (01:01:17):
Their two stars are getting going.

Speaker 2 (01:01:19):
Sofia Prins and Lizzie waldth Hee's with their first buckets
of the second half to extend.

Speaker 3 (01:01:24):
The lead back to fifteen.

Speaker 1 (01:01:26):
And Tom, what was the key again? Passing against the pressure,
the extra pass for the wide open three. Yes, and
that that's what that's what Lizzie Waldheys does. She just
spots up.

Speaker 2 (01:01:35):
She loves that shot in the corner, just drains it again,
a forty one percent three point shooter.

Speaker 3 (01:01:42):
Those are great NBA numbers.

Speaker 1 (01:01:43):
And how about Abby Prince the extra pass by the
freshman to her teammate in the corner for the wide
opening three.

Speaker 4 (01:01:49):
What she does best.

Speaker 1 (01:01:50):
And now we're gonna have a reaching foul yep, good call.
Van Appledorn's getting pushed from behind. We're gonna get Brianna
knot so forty eight thirty three the leaps throwing back
up to fifteen after that triple by Woldheis And now
not with four gonna come out Lily Nitch, who's got three,
will come in biggest players trying to match up with
Van Appleton and Holland Christian oh Nihoff as Sophia Princess

(01:02:13):
fell asleep and she got a block. Good help by
her sister Abbey to save the day. Now Waldheis up ahead,
bounced past the Helmets office on the other side, Meredith
wit'sing up and end time out.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
Holland Christian back to a seventeen point game. What a
game of runs in this one.

Speaker 1 (01:02:29):
South Christian, Holly Christian.

Speaker 2 (01:02:31):
Now the Sailors answer back, Yeah, seven to zero run
there by South Christian Kyle Phelps with a thirty second
time out.

Speaker 1 (01:02:38):
I want to remind you we're taking the phone calls
with the Wing Doozy fan of the game, named the
best chicken wings in West Michigan three years running, and
all those fries. They've got four different flavored fries to
check out with locations of Wyoming and the Metro Health
Village right up of Byron Center Avenue my favorite, or
just off Chicago Drive in Hutsville. They got more of
the sports bar room and themed there with the gemens
Ace hardware right next to that. So Wing dosy a

(01:03:01):
proud sponsor. Thank you so much to the crew man.
They do a great job. But we were there on
Sunday picking up some wings. Maybe I have to do
that again this Sunday with Michigan Michigan State at.

Speaker 2 (01:03:12):
High noon tom high noon, that would be a perfect
time to do just that. South Christian would love to
win this game. They host the regional next week, so
if they're able to hold on and.

Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
Get this win.

Speaker 1 (01:03:25):
Both the boys teams for these programs outstanding years, but
are out of the tournament. Now is not off with
the answer just to two inside the yard, but stops
the bleeding momentarily fifty to thirty five with the four
to twenty eight.

Speaker 4 (01:03:37):
And tike you left to go.

Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
Wow, that's the first outside shot I can remember Poland
Christian hitting since Vandenbosch did early in the first quarter.

Speaker 3 (01:03:46):
They just haven't been able to make anything.

Speaker 4 (01:03:47):
Here's help us on the attack.

Speaker 1 (01:03:49):
Bounce pass downloaded knits opposite Knits had trouble catching it,
but now finishes with a half looking good, always looking
for that extra teammate on the backside is South Christian
and you just can't double Sophia Prince. She dribbles through
those traps. Kick left side Vandon Boss still yet to
get going. Good defense, turn around jumper up No, but

(01:04:10):
she will draw the contact and go to the free
throw line.

Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
Good decision that time by Cam instead of shooting the three.
She's been cold from out there, put it on the ground,
attack the basket and drew the foul.

Speaker 4 (01:04:30):
Congratulations. Are Wing too is a fan of the game.
Co number four.

Speaker 1 (01:04:33):
I know he's a big Howling Christian fan. The great
sponsor of ours, Eric Craftsman, of Holland. Tune it in
to see how the Maroons are doing right now.

Speaker 4 (01:04:44):
They need your help.

Speaker 1 (01:04:45):
Eric fifty two to thirty five, Van in Bosh, no
good on the first second one on the way, Yes,
that's the b nylon for Cam fifty two.

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
To thirty six.

Speaker 1 (01:04:53):
But congratulations Eric, I know he's gonna get some wings
for the Mischigan Michigan State game coming up. By the way,
we will have both broadcasts on our Heart media stations
on Sunday eleven AM. Pregame coverage with the President Center
for Michigan State fans over on Big One on one
point three FM Michigan Fans twelve. I'm sorry eleven thirty
for the pregame coverage over on Wood Radio. Congratulations that

(01:05:14):
Tom isn't when Michigan State outright Big ten regular season champs,
but it's gonna be Senior Day when the Spartans coming up.
Helmus extra passover Waldheie couldn't get that three off the
front rim Smit's with the rebound now reach in foul
gonna be called against Sophia. Friends, that's not what you
want to do with South Christian here, even though it's
only their fourth teen foul one more, I'll put on
Christian and the bonus.

Speaker 4 (01:05:34):
But you don't want to stop the flock.

Speaker 3 (01:05:35):
No, not at all. And Erica Brown indicated that she's like,
come on, girls, no need for that one.

Speaker 1 (01:05:42):
You know what I love here too, is she's not
pulling back still the full court pressure by South Christian
that built this lead for them. They're still in attack mode,
just trying to play a little bit smarter. Niha for
three gets it going. You talked about she's a really
good three point shuter. Got a good look from the
top of the key that time.

Speaker 2 (01:05:58):
That's right, and that's an end up being a too little,
too late. But yeah, just a beautiful stroke that she has.
Addie Nyoff, she's a senior as well, playing her maybe
her final game.

Speaker 1 (01:06:10):
Fifty two thirty nine. The lead is just thirteen, but
we're rolling under three minutes left to go. South Christian
going to a spread here with Sophia Prince. They've got
ball handler's Helmuts, bold Heiss, even Abby Prince, the freshmen
working against Van apple Doorn. The quickness is going to
be a problem here for Holland Christian. They're gonna have
to trap Abby Prince dribbles around or tries to force

(01:06:32):
that one up. I'll advise you don't need it there,
and that's what Erica Brown is saying. Rebound Holland Christian
another opportunity bandon Bosh jee three lets it fly no again?
Halfway down, pops out, battle for a rebound, tied up and.

Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Let's see what they get.

Speaker 1 (01:06:46):
Lily Knits is always in there with Van Appledorn and
Possessionari are going to stay with holand Christy. You are
right boy, how many of those have looked good coming
off her hand? But just kind of rattle out if
you will, if if you're CAMDB.

Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
Yeah, that one looked really good.

Speaker 2 (01:07:01):
You put a little more elevation under it, and I
thought it was going down, but nope, not today.

Speaker 1 (01:07:05):
Well they get into Smid's on the inbounds, she can't
finish on the turnaround jumper rebound, Sofia Prince, She's so
good as the smallest player, usually on the floor rebounding
friends back the other way with the right hand, no
fouled five vanden Bosh Sophia Prince having a night again.
She is definitely one of their leaders and her junior
backcourt mate Lizzie woldheist right there with her. But I

(01:07:28):
really love and Erica Brown talked about that in our
pregame conversation Tom.

Speaker 4 (01:07:32):
It's a unique team for her.

Speaker 1 (01:07:34):
Sophia hits the first because they have different players and
they all contribute at different age levels. So the seniors
are great leaders and they're kind of the role players.
Then you have the stars that are juniors. Then they
have the younger players that are just coming on with
confidence like a Meredith Helmets.

Speaker 4 (01:07:48):
That's right.

Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
And they all seem to play cohesively too. And Sophia
Prinz is their leader, no question about it. And she
knows how to She's a true point guard. She knows
how to distriby and to get the get the ball
to the other players where they want it.

Speaker 3 (01:08:04):
And yeah, they're gonna be a very tough out here, Brett,
I think.

Speaker 1 (01:08:07):
So too, is Prince got them both And now a
turnover Holland Christian threw it away against the pressure, and
how the Bruins are forced to foul with one fifty
eight left to go fifty four to thirty nine. They'll
probably try a couple more see how it results. They
do have a file to give there, but you know
if this one gets out of hands with a free
throw situation, I think Kyle Phelps will call off the dogs.

Speaker 2 (01:08:28):
I would think so one person you don't want to
foul again. As the girl we've just been talking about,
Sophia Prins eighty four percent free throw shooter.

Speaker 1 (01:08:35):
Yeah, she is your perfect point guard, right, you want
it in her hands. Trust her IQ or confidence, tough
of the left hand, realizes when she's getting trapped to
can dribble through it and out of it as they do.
Foul and it'll be Wildtheist go into the free throw line.
Foul was whistled against Cora Borman. They have that writer

(01:09:00):
is that Waltheis? They have four, they have a change
yet Walheist gets the free throw Nihoff gonna go out
checking in also is page Phelps where coach Phelps and
Van Appeldorno come out.

Speaker 4 (01:09:14):
Might be.

Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Trying to get his seniors in there one final time
to play together.

Speaker 4 (01:09:21):
What a year for the Maroons outright? Okay, Black champs.

Speaker 1 (01:09:24):
We mentioned twenty and three overall, coming in South Christian
twenty one and two, and Waltheis gets them both seventeen
point advantage fifty six thirty nine. You have to go
back to that second quarter they outscored and the Maroons
twenty two to three.

Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
Really the difference in this ball game.

Speaker 1 (01:09:38):
Now, Smid's off the feed from Vandon Bosh and the
paint gets the runner to go. Get shooters touch full
court pressure and they'll foul. Sophia Prince, stay with us
for the Discount Door postgame show once we're done here tonight.
It's brought to you by our friends a discount door

first talking so much about her. But discount doorgr dot

(01:10:22):
com coming up in the postgame show stick.

Speaker 4 (01:10:24):
Around with our Jad's family stores. Highlight of the game.

Speaker 1 (01:10:26):
Tom's gonna select her uptown cheapskate offensive player of the game.

Speaker 4 (01:10:29):
I'll select our boy.

Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
She missed them both fow that's a rarety popped out
Bandonboss with the rebound across the timeline. Got a hurry,
now Cam top of the key, watch my helmets. Kicks
it right side to Brooklyn Phelps back to Cam, sets
fires for three.

Speaker 4 (01:10:46):
Got it finally Cam Vandenboss.

Speaker 1 (01:10:48):
The lid comes off a little too late for fifty
six forty four and now trying to tie up Sophia friends.
So they say that Cam Vanabos did knock it away
from Sophia Prince, but it was she was stepping on
the sideline when that happened, So it'll stay with Blue.

Speaker 4 (01:11:09):
Good explanational by the official right in front of us.

Speaker 1 (01:11:12):
Might have even heard it with our microphones, so it'll
be Abby Prince imbounds right near the timeline those in
the backcourt to older sister Sophia, and now she's matched
up with Page Felts. See if they commit a foule.
Helmus now dribble penetration kicks left side to Abby, back
out to Meredith and now Cam gonna file Meredith Helmus

(01:11:33):
with one minute exactly left to go in the ballgame
fifty six forty four, sending the sophomore to the charity strike.
So next up we will have regional final coverage next Wednesday.

Speaker 4 (01:11:51):
When it comes to the girls.

Speaker 1 (01:11:52):
Sign of our coverage brought to you by MKD Feuner
Holmes says, Meredith bounces the first one out. She's not
gonna be happy with herself. I know her as a
can competitor, plays soccer with my daughter on the well.

Speaker 4 (01:12:04):
Just so good good teammate.

Speaker 1 (01:12:08):
But we cover the Whaling game the same thing kind
of happened now the stretch she missed some free throws
and I was talking to her parents afterwards that she
was not happy with herself.

Speaker 4 (01:12:17):
Second one on the way and Shooter's touch rattles that
one in.

Speaker 1 (01:12:24):
Fifty six make that fifty seven forty four thirteen point
of bands for South Christian Vandon Bosh against the two
three matchup right wing to Brooklyn Phelps. Now they feed
it down low to Smid's getting it back out right corner.
That's Cora Ritterink and now back out top brook that

(01:12:44):
Phelps couldn't get the three just off the market and
Holland Christian forced to foul.

Speaker 4 (01:12:50):
Thirty eight point eight seconds left.

Speaker 1 (01:12:52):
I wouldn't be surprised after these free throws if you see,
Holland Christian.

Speaker 4 (01:12:55):
Just kind of back off. What a year for the Maroons.

Speaker 1 (01:12:59):
And as you mentioned, South Christian going home for the regionals,
which don't forget regional semi final action. They got to
turn right back around. It's a short weekend because they
have to play on Monday due to the fact that
the boys quarterfinals are on Tuesday, tom that's right.

Speaker 2 (01:13:11):
Yeah, So that's a quick turnaround for what will be
a big game. They're gonna play the winner of the
South Haven District. That's Papa playing at Sego tonight. So
South Christian will play the winner of that game.

Speaker 1 (01:13:25):
Oh and Abby Prins misses them both. Something's in the
water with the Prince sisters missing their free throws. Fifty
seven forty four final thirty three seconds in regulation, good
extra pass in the corner from Brooklyn Phelps and knocking
down the three core rittering and a quick time out
by Kyle Phelps.

Speaker 4 (01:13:42):
We'll keep it right here.

Speaker 2 (01:13:44):
You know, just think Brett, if Colin Christian could have
made a few more threes. I mean you look at
they've made what three threes I think here in the
fourth quarter after making just one in the first three
quarters of the game, and that's how you get back
in the game.

Speaker 3 (01:14:00):
They got it down to ten, but it's probably not
gonna quite be enough.

Speaker 4 (01:14:03):
And think about this.

Speaker 1 (01:14:04):
You had the stat of the game as far as
our broadcast in the lead in in that eleven point
loss in the regular season way back in early December,
they were over eighteen. Holland Christian was from behind the
arc and they only lost by eleven. Here not a
good shooting night from behind the arc and they're only
down ten. Granted there's twenty six seconds left, but like
you said, would it should have.

Speaker 4 (01:14:24):
Could or right?

Speaker 2 (01:14:25):
That's right, and normally maybe against any other team except
South Christian. Right, they're a good three point shooting team.
But something I don't know, if it's about the speed
or the length of South Christian or something, they just
don't shoot well when they play the Sailors.

Speaker 1 (01:14:39):
We don't know yet where we're going to be as
far as regional final action for the girls. We want
to see what happens tonight and maybe even Monday. We
will say as far as our quarterfinal coverage from the boys,
we have decided to go to the Division two quarterfinal
not far from where we are here, Hamilton High School
on Tuesday night for Grand Up, it's Catholic Central against Marshall.
Marshall knocking off the Holland Christian Boys last night, so

(01:15:02):
Division two quarterfinals six to forty five with Jenning's Family
Store's pregame show coverage from the home of the Hawkeys
Hamilton High for Grand Affans Catholic Central and Marshall. Seven
o'clock tip up ahead, so Fia Prince after beating the
pressure on the assist from Meredith helmets and that should
do it. Final eight seconds. South Christian fans to their feet.
Oh wow, Vandenboss rozen a long three and the time

(01:15:27):
will run out. So Cam got a couple in the
fourth quarter, but South Christian gets the last laugh here
as they're advancing to the regional semi finals. Your Division
two district champs here at Hopkins High. South Christian wins
it tonight by a final of fifty nine to fifty
over Holland Christian.

Speaker 2 (01:15:45):
Yeah, great job by the sailors. Give Holland Christian credit.
They were down twenty at halftime, they could have given up.
They came back and turned it into a game. But
South Christian I think just too much depth, too much speed,
too much length, a very impressive team that I think
is going to be a threat to make a run

(01:16:05):
maybe possibly to the Breslan.

Speaker 1 (01:16:08):
We will see, of course, individual medals and a trophy
presentation coming up for Erica Brown and the Sailors of
South Kristina. She's hopping with her team fifty nine to fifty.
The final stay with us coming up next after the
time out the Discount Door postgame show brought you by
Discount Door in grund Rapids. That's when we continue on
the road to the Presidents that I hope you're enjoying
it brought to you by mkd F. You know Holmes

(01:16:29):
right here on your home for high school sports ninety
six to one the game. Welcome into the Discount Door
postgame show. And that's my favorite part of basketball celebrations
because we're so close. Tom Kendrick Court sign is when

(01:16:49):
they give up the championship trophy or whatever it is,
whatever level to the coach and then just swarmed almost
knocked down by your players.

Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
Was Erica Brown.

Speaker 1 (01:16:57):
They didn't though, and back to back strict championships for
the Sailors of South Christian On the girls sign as
they win it by nine tonight fifty nine fifty, and
we mentioned the discount Door post game shall brought to
you by discount Door with the five star rating on
Google and Facebook. Find out more at discountdoorgr dot com.
Let's take you through the individual team scoring summary, and
this one brought to you by mkde Funderholmes. I'll start

(01:17:20):
it was a one point game, as we expected Tom
Kendra after one, twelve to eleven in favorite South fifty
after Holland Christian.

Speaker 3 (01:17:26):
Got the early lead.

Speaker 1 (01:17:27):
Then it was that second quarter that Holland Christian would
like to forget. They got outscored twenty two to three
in the second eight minutes of this one to trial
by twenty at.

Speaker 4 (01:17:36):
The break thirty four to fourteen. However, they didn't quit.
They clawed their way back.

Speaker 1 (01:17:40):
It was an eleven point game after three as they
outscored South Christian.

Speaker 4 (01:17:44):
Little full court pressure to start.

Speaker 1 (01:17:46):
The second half seventeen to eight, forty two thirty one
Sailors after the third quarter and then just putting them away.
Didn't necessarily hit all their free throws, but made enough plays.
South Christian wins it by nine. Here the final fifty
nine fifty.

Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
Yeah, a great job by the South Christian. Again, they
showed how explosive they can be in that second quarter.
When they start playing their game, start running, start hitting
the three, they can score points in bunches. But again
give credit to Holland Christian. They're a twenty win team
for a reason. They started getting the ball inside to
their big girls and they got to be thinking, right now, geez,

(01:18:23):
if we had done that right from the get go,
could this have been a different outcome.

Speaker 3 (01:18:28):
Perhaps.

Speaker 1 (01:18:29):
Let's take you through the individual score to this one.
We'll start with Holland Christian and finally she had a
couple threes. Late, cam Vandenbosh got going.

Speaker 4 (01:18:36):
A little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:18:36):
Yeah, she started well and ended well. It's kind of
quiet in the middle.

Speaker 2 (01:18:40):
But cam Vandenbosch again, the talented six foot senior who
is headed to Toledo next year. She finishes the leading
scorer for the Maroons with fifteen points, and then a
great second half for another senior, the six footer Kyria
Smith's thirteen points. She finished with a great final game
for her. The next leading scorer was Adeline Naihoff, another senior.

(01:19:04):
She had nine points, and we go to Kate van
Appledorn the six to one junior four points, Cora rick
Drink had three, l O Westerbeak with two points off
the bench a round out the scoring for the Maroons
and then over to a South Christian good balance scoring
three players in double figures, led by their junior point

(01:19:28):
guard Sophia Prince fourteen points, Natalie walt Heice excuse me,
Lizzie Waldheist the junior she had thirteen points, and then
the speedy sophomore Meredith Helmus she finished with twelve.

Speaker 3 (01:19:42):
Other scorers for the Sailors Lily.

Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
Knits with seven, Brianna Knott and Cammy Boonstra both had four,
and the freshman Abbey Prince had three.

Speaker 4 (01:19:53):
All Right, there you go.

Speaker 1 (01:19:54):

Hopkins High School Brefecket along with Tom Kendra fifty nine

(01:20:48):
fifty the Sailors of South Christian win another district championship
Division two against their rival Holling Christian. Join us right
now is Sailors head coach Erica Brown. I saw you
as excited as the players when you grab that trophy.
This really means a lot. And I know you have
a lot of respect for the team you beat tonight
because they did not quit. They came out hard in
that third quarter.

Speaker 6 (01:21:07):
Orc they did yeah, and that's what I said at halftime.
They're too good not to make a run on us,
and they want it as bad as we do.

Speaker 5 (01:21:13):
And they're coached well and they have great players, and
we got to be able to handle a run and
that's exactly what they did because they're a really good team.
Lots of respect there for Kyle.

Speaker 2 (01:21:22):
Yeah, the one girl I thought was really impressed with
in the first half was your sophomore Meredith Helmus. Just
her her speed, her ability to break down a defense
with her speed when maybe nothing else is really going on.
Talk about her kind of athlete she is.

Speaker 6 (01:21:37):
Yep, she's blossomed for US.

Speaker 5 (01:21:39):
I pulled her up halfway through her freshman year last year,
which I think was a huge turning point for her
and her confidence and her being able to step in
this year and play a role that you know, next
to Sophia and another ball handler for US.

Speaker 1 (01:21:52):
But she does.

Speaker 6 (01:21:52):
She has speed like no other.

Speaker 5 (01:21:54):
I mean, we sometimes catch ourselves laughing in practice how
fast in the head she is than everybody else. She is.

Speaker 1 (01:22:01):
She's so fast with the basketball, which is a rare
to usually have slowed down a little bit. But I
look at your ball handling, Erika and complimenting that is
the unselfish play. And you just told us something off
the ear of you know, teaching. Okay, this is a
good shot, but maybe if I make one more pass,
I've got a better shot or I've got a layup,
I've got to open three.

Speaker 4 (01:22:19):
You guys really work on that, don't we do.

Speaker 6 (01:22:21):
We preach that a lot.

Speaker 5 (01:22:22):
It's uh, we call it A shots shots, sea shots,
and we know we have a bunch of people on
this team that can make great plays. But it doesn't
take one, it takes all five. And if you're working
hard off the ball, just as you are working hard
on the ball, we need to reward our teammates for.

Speaker 6 (01:22:37):
That as well and look for those A shots. So
we talk a lot about that.

Speaker 2 (01:22:41):
I was really impressed with your some of your subs
who came in off the bench. I mean, I'm talking
about Lehanna, not Appy Prins, Natalie Woldheist. I gotta believe
you must have some really intense practices.

Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
We do, we do we That has been something we've
been focusing on this year, getting after each other and
sometimes with girls it's a little but I have I've
been blessed with a group this year that likes to compete,
and they compete with respect and love, and that just
propels you because it's like, hey, if you're gonna go
hard for an hour and a half and get what
we need to get done in here, then we're out.

Speaker 6 (01:23:13):
And they respect that and they get after each other
and push each other.

Speaker 5 (01:23:16):
So it's been that right there has just been a
huge part of who we are this season and understanding that.

Speaker 1 (01:23:24):
Lastly, I don't want to rush this championship because you
just want it. But this is what's unique about the tournament.
Quick turnaround because you've got to play Monday already. Now,
the good news is you get to be at home. Right,
you guys are hosting the regionals. So what do you
do over the weekend? Then, I mean, there's not really
a day off for the girls, because he can't, right,
not a.

Speaker 5 (01:23:41):
Day off, not an hour off. Right, We're gonna dig
right into film when we get home tonight. Just tell
you it's the truth, just to see. We'll look up scores,
we'll see who we're playing. We'll start, you know, getting
some eyes on film and then trying to get what
we need to end up in one practice before.

Speaker 1 (01:23:54):
Wow, yep, Well, like I said, enjoy this first and
then we'll worry about the retails. But congratulates his team
really played well tonight, and hey, the road of the
Buses Center continues.

Speaker 6 (01:24:04):
One game, one possession at a time. That's what we say.

Speaker 4 (01:24:06):
Thank you Erica so much, appreciate it.

Speaker 3 (01:24:08):
Thank you. Enjoy the ride.

Speaker 1 (01:24:11):
And you've got little ones that want to Now she
can be coach mom, as I call her. Enjoy that
one tonight. And uh, what a great family, Danny Brown.
If you don't know the story, her husband is the
football coach for South Bristin.

Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
We've got a.

Speaker 1 (01:24:22):
Chance to cover, so I feel like I know the
family well. But uh, championships across the board. And you know,
it's kind of an interesting relationship they have too, Because
I said, well, what do you guys do with each other?
They said, actually, we're great with each other when we're
in season, and the person who's not in season, right
can be kind of that tough love or ask those questions.

Speaker 4 (01:24:40):
So they love the coaching element of the relationship they have.

Speaker 1 (01:24:43):
And you heard her talk about love with their teammates.

Speaker 4 (01:24:45):
They have that situation as husband and wife.

Speaker 3 (01:24:48):
Yeah they do.

Speaker 2 (01:24:48):
And they're a neat couple and they their teams play
the play the way they do they play. They with
having a lot of fun out there and uh, yeah,
it's just great to see here at Healthcare.

Speaker 1 (01:25:00):
I like to remind Danny that at least there's one
coach in the family. So Erica Brown and the South
Christian Sailors get it tonight and with the victory, they
improved to twenty two and two overall your okay, gold
cold champs with West Catholic back to back now district champions,
and they'll be back in action regional semi finals at
South Christian for all your sailor fantasy. Don't have to

(01:25:20):
travel far coming up on Monday night, like she said,
we'll see what the final scores are, who they play,
and then Wednesday night would be the regional final for
Hollow Christian and Kyle Phelps want to thank them for
helping us with our broadcast tonight. What a great team
led by some great seniors. Best of luck to camp
Bandon Bosh. He's gonna go on and play at University Toledo.
But I mean, you watch this game tonight. It was
two great teams they and the year at twenty and

(01:25:42):
four overall time.

Speaker 2 (01:25:43):
Yeah, great year for them again the same as last year.
Their season ends in the district finals against South Christian.
But yeah, they're gonna look back at that second quarter
tonight twenty two to three. You know they lose the
game by nine, they get out scored by nineteen in
that quarter. They would love to have that back, but
that's the way it is in March. It's one, one
and done, and unfortunately for them, this is the end

(01:26:05):
of the road.

Speaker 4 (01:26:06):
All Right.

Speaker 1 (01:26:06):
We've had the individual medals handed out, we've had the
district championship trophy. Now we've got to hand out our awards.
And I'll start tonight with you, tom our uptown cheapskate.
Offensive player of the game.

Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Yeah, and there's a many choices again for South Christian,
three players in double figures, but I'm gonna go with
the sophomore, the speedy sophmore, Meredith Helms. I thought there
were points in that game where her speed, her ability
just to drive and get to the basket really made
a difference. That was an element that Holland Christian did
not have. They didn't have that type of speedy player

(01:26:37):
out there. I thought she was the difference tonight. So
as far as the offensive player of the game goes,
I'm gonna go with the sophomore. Twelve points tonight, Meredith Helmas.

Speaker 1 (01:26:47):
Number fourteen, And you're right, she's a difference maker, great
athlete for South Christian. Congratulations sir, our Uptown Chief Skate
Offensive player of the Game. She's gonna do some shopping
on us. She gets a twenty five dollars gift card
for that honor. Congratulations Meredith, and she can go to
any three locations Granville, Kentwood and Holland.

Speaker 4 (01:27:04):
Uptown Chief Skate.

Speaker 4 (01:27:13):
And you know what, I'm gonna go with another underclass.

Speaker 1 (01:27:15):
But how scary is this South Kriston team for year
she had a great offensive game, but she did the
little things to the point guard. You said it so
well on our broadcast, Tom need to do to win.
Set up your teammates with assist, get steals, defensively, knock
down your free throws. And of course I'm talking about
the outstanding junior point guard number twelve, their leading scorer

(01:27:36):
coming in Sophia Prinz. Tonight's Montel Construction Defensive Player of
the Game, brought to you by my home team, Montel
Construction Spring US right around the corner. Think of them
for your next sixteen project at Montel Construction dot com.
And you know what, we had so many standouts for
South Christia, we want to honor one more with our
J and H Family Stores highlight of the game. She
was big knocking down threes, which is probably her best attribute.

(01:27:59):
We're talking about Lizzie Walldheis. Sophia Prinz dribbling around the
double team up ahead to abbey her younger sister, kicking
the corner.

Speaker 4 (01:28:06):
Wald heis for three?

Speaker 5 (01:28:07):
Got it?

Speaker 1 (01:28:08):
Lizzie Walheis? How big was that triple?

Speaker 4 (01:28:11):
To give them some breathing room?

Speaker 2 (01:28:13):
How their two stars are getting going, Sophia Prinz and
Lizzie Waldheis with their first buckets of the second half.

Speaker 1 (01:28:22):
And that was our J and H's Family Stores highlight
of the game, brought to you by our friends of
jan H's Family Stores, now with sixty plus locations to
serve you across Michigan jan H's Family Stores stopping on
the way to your next game. We're on your way
home well, Tom Kendra, as we wrap things up, final thoughts,
thanks again for helping me out tonight. Really enjoyed the broadcast.
And next up for the girls will be next Wednesday

(01:28:42):
night with regional final action. But South Christian a winner
here again tonight in the rematch with Holland Christian fifty
nine fifty.

Speaker 3 (01:28:49):
Yeah, a great game.

Speaker 2 (01:28:50):
You know, it's hard to beat March Madness, outstanding and
you know it's it's a lot of basketball. But for
us basketball junkies, you know, you can't get enough of it.
You already looking forward to the next game next week.
What are the matchups? But hopefully, you know, South Christian
take a moment and enjoy this back to back district titles.
That's something special.

Speaker 1 (01:29:10):
Our next broadcast, by the way, speaking of that with
