Houston's Best Forride the eighties, nineties and Today I'm Dane
with producer Anthony Well at six forty. We learned that
the key to a kid's success lots of books around
(04:09):
when they're growing up, and that kind of led Anthony
and I to talk about our favorite books. One of
my favorites. It was such a heart wrenching book, so
well written with sounder and again, I grew up in
the New York school district. So maybe the book isn't here,
but it was definitely very popular there. Anthony, you were
the THEMS books exactly. And then my really brilliant middle
(04:33):
child is Super Diaper Baby books that had been banned
in many schools.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
You said that you had a problem with the misspelling,

you've had with books and to share it with us.
And we have got Shelby calling in from Sealy on
your way to work in Katie. What's been your book experience?
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I actually grew up with the agent reader by brothers
all the time. But when I got into middle school,
I grew up in North Carolina and we had a
thing called Battle of Books where you basically would read
books and then you would go to this competition to
answer questions about the book.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
Oh my gosh, I'm getting nervous, just reprehension, exfinitely.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
And I preached that with my son and he's actually
a little heart at reading, but he has that part.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
Down that Isa, Wow, that's incredible.
Speaker 1 (05:25):
It's a lot of times, you know, it's one thing
to read to the kids, but then asking questions.
Speaker 4 (05:31):
Oh yeah, so that was the fun part about it
because it was one of those they asked you a
questions and you would have to tell them what book
it was and if it was one that it could
be in more than one book you can contest it.
And then you would have to find the book, the page,
the chapter, everything.
Speaker 1 (05:45):
For It's like, how old were you when you did this?
Speaker 4 (05:49):
Oh? I think it was like thirteen.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Yeah, that's something.
Speaker 1 (05:52):
Were there any prizes up for grabs?
Speaker 4 (05:55):
So the winners of the competition got like some kind
of people apart. It wasn't something big, but it was
fun to do.
Speaker 1 (06:01):
What a great we can.
Speaker 2 (06:02):
Do that in our homes really, and the skills you
learned from that, yeez shall be.

Speaker 3 (06:08):
Right, Yes, I love it. Well, thanks for sharing.
Speaker 1 (06:12):
And what was the name of the contest again?
Speaker 4 (06:14):
Of the book?
Speaker 3 (06:15):
I love that battle of the book. Yeah, it's so good. Well, Shelby,
thanks so much for sharing. And it's so funny. She
says that because her hers was actually hard. We've got
our Battle of the Urbs coming up at eight ten,
and you you don't have to have read any books
in your whole.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Life, and you'll be to answer these questions.
