Speaker 1 (00:01):
Sunday ninety nine point one Houston's Best Variety of the
eighties nineties, And today I'm Dana with producer Anthony, and
it is a feel good Friday the thirteenth, and here
are the three things you need to know to get
your day started. Not only is it a feel good Friday,
but like I said, it's Friday the thirteenth, the only
time this is going to happen in twenty twenty five.
(00:22):
So if you have trisk guidecaphobia, which is the fear
of the number thirteen, you have to worry after today,
you're good to go. And the origin of that bad
thirteen vibe apparently goes back to Biblical times. Just when
Judas goes to the Last Supper, he was the thirteenth
guest and he's the one who betrayed Jesus. So that's
(00:44):
where you get that from, So just be aware of that.
HISD had some positivity at a board meeting last night
celebrating star test results, biology improving by twenty three points
in two years, algebra by sei seventeen points. Superintendent Mike
Miles said it was proof of a turnaround since the
state took over. This is the third year in third
(01:08):
through eighth grade star testing. HISD apparently outperformed the state
in six categories. And we had two tornadoes touchdown in
Wharton County yesterday, no one hurt. Fortunately, one hundred mile
per hour wins, the other seventy five mile per hour wins. Today,
we've got a beautiful start to our day. We are
supposed to have some rain. Fifty percent chance. We're going
(01:30):
to go up to eighty four right now, seventy four
in uptown, and you're up to date from Sunday ninety
nine point one. Tell me something good brought to us
by our friends at Goodwill Houston. Well, Kya Harvey is
a senior who didn't get to go to her prom
because a designer she hired to make her dress.
Speaker 2 (01:50):
Didn't finish it in time.
Speaker 1 (01:52):
Can you imagine she went to the studio where he
was supposed to be doing it, realized it wasn't going
to be done. It was devastating. Well Danny Newyn's studio.
Danny Newynn is a designer. His wife heard about the
story and told Danny about Kaya, and he was like,
you know what, why can't you know she didn't get
(02:12):
to go to a prom that doesn't mean she can't
have her dream dress. So they contacted Kaya Harvey and
her mom brought them to.
Speaker 2 (02:20):
Danny Newinn's studio.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
They kind of played around with some designs and he
ended up making her the perfect prom dress. Now again,
she didn't get to go, but she's got her perfect
prom dress. She's gonna have some amazing pictures taken. But
it's the moral of the story that's so important that
someone who's like an ultimate designer took time out for
(02:43):
just a young lady who was in distress to kind
of bring some.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Joy to her Life's huge.
Speaker 3 (02:48):
Yeah, that great.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
I love that so Danny Newynn beautiful, beautiful act of
kindness producer Anthony Dane.
Speaker 2 (02:54):

Speaker 3 (02:55):
There's a specialty and gift shop proudly showcasing the work
of local artists and make from the LGBTQ plus community,
and I love the name. It's called the Feisty Collective.
It opened up just a few months ago and it's
already having an impact in the community.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Chris Owens, the owner. She says that she.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
Really wanted a place where people can come and know
that their money's going back to these communities to try
and help one another, but also create a space where
artists and makers can thrive. They host several community events
including clothing swaps, diay projects, and various support grooves. It
looks really cool. It's over in the Heights. It's called
the Feisty Collective. You can find it off Lawrence Street.
That is amazing and the winner.
Speaker 1 (03:29):
Of the Top Chef is Houston's Tristan Epps. Yet the
award winning chef wins season twenty two last night.
Speaker 2 (03:38):

actually the first Top Chef for a win in Houston
after a few close calls over the years. Also a
fave on the Restaurant Wars. He is such a dynamic
personality and his cuisine explores Africa and is crisscrossing the
(04:00):
globe as a Trinidad American military kid.
