Hey, good evening, everyone, and welcome to the LSB. Hatton
Memorial Gymnasium here at Chilicopy High School. I'm Shane Colmes
alongside Greg Bigan, and we were sitting courtside at the
newly named Thomas M.

Cup at court and great. Great to be back with you.

Speaker 2 (00:28):
I know this Chilicopee team, you know, at four and
seven overall, two and two inside the fac certainly have
played a tough schedule, probably have left a little on
the table, but I know that we've been very optimistic
about the group and as we enter second half of
the league play here, I'm excited to see the improvements.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Give me your.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
Thoughts first half Chilicothee Cavaliers this year.

Speaker 4 (00:51):
And on one side of it, and I don't know
if this is a I don't know how much of
a positive coach Beard might not agree, but to some
degree it's probably one of the best four and seven
teams around. I mean, they really not have comitted and
gotten blown out by hardly anyone.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
They've been in a lot of ball games.

Speaker 4 (01:10):
Even last week when I had the game Jackson, who's
currently second place in the FAC they lose by two,
came from eleven down tide the game with and guy
beating the final ten seconds.

Speaker 3 (01:21):
It's been that kind of year. I don't think they've.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
Played real well against Portsmouth, but uh, I don't know,
and Shane, we've talked a lot about it. I don't know,
if you can put your finger on one thing. Why
so close? They're pretty young. I think that's number one,
and I think they really they need a big win.
We were talking a moment ago, and I'm jumping to
not answering your question, but tournament time, they don't. They

don't have to go to Central District and play D
one this year, so they'd, like you said, second half
of the season, they've got a bit of a role
start playing. They've not played poorly, but if they can
get some wins, win some close games at the end,
I think that'll really say something when it comes tournament,
and when I think they'll match up well against a
lot of the teams out of the Southeast and East

that are.

Division three like them, well, taking a look at some
of the numbers here just to kind of illustrate your point.
You know, you talked about the you know, being maybe
better than the four and seven mark. You know, you
look at some of the losses at New Lex, at Warn,
at Marysville.

At Miami Trace.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
This team we're going to see here tonight eleven and
O coming in hilliary Davidson. You mentioned the Jackson game
they lost where they give up to.

Speaker 3 (02:26):

It's it's a team on paper, not not very many
four and seven teams have a.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
Plus differential, which they do.

You know, they score fifty three and I only give
up fifty two, So they're obviously in every game, like
you said, maybe getting that signature win. I think this
was a team that was hurt, as all teams were.
This is a team that was hurt by the weather.
I thought they were starting to roll in certain areas
where some of that the breaks probably did not come
at the best time. But as you come in, what
an opportunity here tonight eleven and O.

You know, you go back on December seventeenth, Miami Trace
beat Chilicoffee fifty six forty seven you and I were.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
Talking off there. We thought like that was a competitive
I was a closer game than the nine points. So
you're talking about a signature win. What better opportunity than
right here in fac.

Play trying to get the pattens popping as I like
this hatzy to get the crowd into a little bit.

See I can come up with a big win. Huh,
you could get a huge win. You got greenom Kentucky
we know nothing about. But another home game tomorrow night.
You got two games with McLain coming up. But it's tough,
I know, especially at McClain there late in the season.
You got to go to Hillsboro and but all those
are wonnerable games and all of a sudden, you know,
four and seven, all of a sudden, you know, maybe

it's a it's a nine and eight record, it's a
ten and nine. You get a winning record going into
the term, and I think it could happen. I think
one of the things that I talked to coach Daniel
Sisson will not be coming back to the team. That
was one of their bit of inside presents, and had
they filled in for him.

Speaker 2 (03:55):
Yeah, I thought, I think that.

Speaker 4 (03:58):
Andrew Hammond is done a great job doing a lot
of the work inside because of his height inside as
well as we talk a lot about cam Badger where
it has hurt him and for Chillakathy, not having sism
is the bench. And we've said this almost every week.
Carte Legan, I can't wait to watch him play football
the next three years. But he's that kind of athlete

and he's gotten better and better. Hitchins has come in
the spells him that doesn't look much to shoot, but
I thought they're depth wise for Coach Beard, and you
look at games at the end, in.

Speaker 3 (04:30):
Close games in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
I think that's part of it, Shane is is they're
just not very deep. And part of that is you
lose sism and it just drops your depth down by
by one big person. Give me your thoughts on the
six to sixth sophomore no matter as I've watched him
throughout the years JDM Varsity, I feel like his skill
sets improving, certainly a presence defensively. Is he someone that
can give Coach Beard a spark the second half the year.

He came in the other night and actually I looked
up against Jackson and they were down.

Speaker 3 (04:58):
They brought him in and he did.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
He had a block, and he had a couple of
big rebounds, and I think he made two free throws,
and so coach relied on him a bit.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Whereas back to that second week of the.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Season, Noah comes in as a as a young guy,
a sophomore, and probably just tries to blend in, you know.
Then he stepped up and yes, to answer your question,
is he going to score ten or twelve? But if
he comes in, he gets a couple of rebounds, gets
a couple of buckets, I think he can help him.

Speaker 2 (05:25):
He's gonna have to give him some depth. Well, you
look at the FAC is what's weird about the schedule
right now is when you go through weather and you
go through cancelations, not everybody cancels on the same night.

Speaker 3 (05:36):
Not everybody plays on the same night.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
So some of these games are going to be half
games in the win column, half games and the lost column.
So board the Miami Trace, as they said, comes in
four and zero and FAC play Jackson a half game
back at four and one, Washington Courthouse three and three,
Chili Coffee two and two, Hills Row one in three.
I understand they might have might be down a post player.

I was trying to get some more information on that.
We'll look into that. That game rescheduled is going to
be Wednesday night. We're hoping to put that on the air.
That'll be Wednesday night at hills Brough. That reschedule, I
mean McLean and oh and five and Greg, I bring
I bring the standings to the attention because I looked
back at last year's standings at well ChIL Coffee already
two and too. Chili Coffee went two and eight and
f they see play. So to illustrate again your point

in the opening, this is a team that's much improved
from a year ago. You really hope the fan base
and and and the overall studid body hangs with them,
because I still think their best basketball is ahead up.

Yeah, I don't.

I don't think if you've come to a game and
watch Chill Kathy, you went home totally disappointed, like, man
we got blown out, or man, that team's just so
young or not very good. That they play an exciting brand,
and uh they they're not too far off, as you said,
they're not far off, and they need a couple maybe,
I don't know. Signature wins would be tonight obviously an
undefeated Miami face, but uh, they need I don't know

if it's confidence the right word. I think they have
some cup but I think that they can finish and
finish strong like they did. You had them to night
at Hillsboro and you said they were able to do
it that night. If they can get a few of
that and get down the stretch, down that final three
or four minutes of the game and come up with
a big shot and get it get a couple wins,
I think that'll be big fun.

a lot of times you'll see eleven and other team
and you'll think, oh my goodness, hey has come out
and they just beat everybody to death, like twenty five
thirty points.

That really hasn't been the case.

It's a team that they know who they are, they
play a specific way, they use their big zone and
and probably what seven of those games are by ten
or last furth, So they won a lot of close
games too.

For Chilicothy to try to put themselves in a position
to get this.

One stop Guthrie.

But but Guthrie's not the type of kid that it's
gonna shoot every time. It's almost I find the times
I've seen Miami Trace twice this year against Chilicoth. They
saw him against Circleville. Guthrie was setting a twelve, thirteen
points or whatever. And but down the stretch at Miami
Traced a lot of games when it's you know, it
was a two or three point game and they played
Circleville was like three or four point lead for him,

and it got down to crunch time and they said
we're going we're going to ride the big man and
he scores six eight points in a row. Guys, good luck,
and I'm interested to see how we I think we're
gonna need to hit some. There are Miami Trace you
mentioned this last time. They're athletic, they're long, and we

love to drive to the bucket. That's tough to do
against the team. It's a long team and a six
to seven guy standing under the bucket. I'll see how
they do. But bottom line, if we stay close, Guthri
can't just.

we said there in the opening, when Miami Trace comes
in with eleven and oh, Mark and four and O
inside fac play and let's go to the starting lineups,
and take a look at some of the matchups that

Greg and I were talking about throughout the pre game. First,
for your own Chillicothee Cavaliers, Coach Bearer to run them
out with senior point guard Ron Miller, sophomore guard Caden Cox,
three guard set, puts another junior guard in the backboard
with Cooper Stone team, and then on the front line
it's six to four sophomore Andrew Hammond and six to

three senior Cam Badger Again for Coach Beard, that's Miller, Cox, Hammond, Stone,
King and Badger. Over on the Miami tray side are
expected starters. Freshman point guard Gage Bwers, a six footer,
does a nice job running the show for the Panthers,
very athletic and Julian Baker six to three sophomore. Then

they have a pair of six four seniors that play
the forward position and Sky Silers and Trey Robinette. And then,
of course, as we highlighted in the pre game, the
six seven junior Adam Guthrie.

getting a ton of looks at some of the highest
Division one football schools. And you could see why when
you see a size and then you see his skill
and foot footwork here on the basketball court almost look
like he I won't say slimmed down, but you can

tell he's really worked in the weight room.

He's just solid. Beside being dick against his own stone

got it one. Miller shot the ball extremely well over

night that the Calves didn't have sism to football off

and Daniel's not on the team anymore, but nobody plays
hard and cam badger Ham and we talked about, you know,

looks like he's grown an instance the season began, but
they're just no match physically for Guthrie and he's just
establishing position on the low block that time the rebound
and they call time out.

I'm not sure what you do, but they tried to
play behind him the first two times they were digging
down that last, and then they tried to front and
they went over the top. And then that time he
just went to the offensive last. So again he shows
off a lot of the different skill set and as
you said, very disciplined group understanding where they want to
put the ball out of the time out, tilicop and
basketball Miller walks it up, comes right point to stone

In the left corner, the Cox trying to stretch the
zone out a little bit and see if they could

no good, almost almost like a flex action whether when
they stretch that zone out. They scream the baseline and
Cox comes flashing into the middle. It's a good look,
gets the free throw line. Let's see if he can
convert the second one second one's up and it is good.

So Caden Cox will cut the lead the nine to four.
Just over three minutes into this one, Sours will walk
it up for Miami trays. Bowers has it on the
left side.

Out top robbingette back to Bowers. Now, Guthrie will dive
into the middle. Siwers will try a three no good

Cox will try a three, no good him and will
run down the offensive rebound to give the paves another
possession and Cox will bring it out up while the

Gives away the stone King. Stone King and Miller up
top of a two guard set again. They're trying to
stretch it out and Badger's working the middle there. Cox
has it right corner, Miller to stone King, the ham
and all the way around now underneath the Cox a
nice look at it. Couldn't get it the finish over
the size of Guffery and out comes fin any trace

with the rebound. Bowers pushes left side, robbing at Robbinette.
Wanted Guphrie, couldn't get it to him. Give back to
Bowers and no reset right side. Siwars right in front
of the Chili Cooffee student section skips a cross court.
Bowers back up top Robinette, Chili Cooffee doing a pretty
good job on Gufrie. Bowers shot fake penetrates to the baseline,

dishes off the Guthrie shot.

Fall out of bounds goes back to Chiliki fell pretty
good possession for the Cavaliers there containing the basketball. For
the most part, Guthrie did get the look, but not
nearly the clo we.

had him in the air and he couldn't connect on well.
The last time now Cox had a great look, but
even though Guthrie wasn't there and he's back inside again.
Even though Cox got inside, Guthrie didn't block a shot.
