Speaker 1 (00:05):
Good evening everyone, and welcome the new Lexington High School.
I'm Shane Combs alongside Greg Bigham, and we are ready
for game number two for the Chilicothee Cavaliers here in
the twenty twenty four twenty twenty five season. And Greg,
it's awsome to be back with you here. I know
we enjoyed our fall and really we were talking on
the way over here tonight. We really enjoyed watching a

(00:26):
lot of these same kids throughout the football season. Thought
they represented Chili Cooffee really well, played really hard, got
better from start to finish, and a lot of optimism
here on the hardwood side as they get out of
the gate pass the other day with a win over Dina.
Before we get to the night's matchup with a really
good New lex team, let me just get an opening
comment from you. I know you followed Chili Cooffee well
over the years. Your outlook here as we get ready

(00:51):
for a new season.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Well, last year they struggled subwhat but when you looked
at it, they were starting Kate and Cox last year
as a freshman. Cooper stone King, although he as a freshman,
started last year as a sophomore. Andrew Hammond was a
sixth or seventh man as a freshman, so they were
a very young team. They didn't have a lot of
experience inside at the post position. They used, of course

(01:14):
Daniel Sissm and a couple other guys who were actually
football players, So it took him a while, and I
think they were trying to find their identity. I saw
Coach Beard's comments, and then you saw them play against
the Dean a little bit of a mismatch, but I
think he would like to play a little more pressure defense,
use the defense to create turnovers, get in the run game,

(01:36):
and so they don't have to set up the offense
as much. So on one hand, you think, man, get
all those guys back, and including Kayden Cox, who I
think is one of the best sophomores in Southern Ohio.
Hammon can shoot the ball. You got Jan Miller back
as a senior who's now third year starting as varsity member,
and I think you get a little bit excited. But
you got to remember too, these guys. You're still talking

(01:58):
about a couple of sophomores jor and Well, we'll see.
I think they're gonna have a better year this year.
We'll see how they progress. I think Coach Beard is
excited about this season.

Speaker 1 (02:08):
Well, I think Coach Beard really wanted to test them
here early in the season, and that's why you make
this type of road trip. We come over here a
New Lexington twenty one and five a year ago. They
were a Division two at that time before we now
gone to the seven divisions Division two district runner up,
lost to an outstanding warrant team there in the district championship,
and they're led by a couple of outstanding guards. Isaiah

(02:29):
Stevens second Team Ohio averaged twenty one a game and
then Bentley Hansen's another senior guard, average sixty in a game.
He was Honorable Mention Ohio on that team. So you
mentioned the defense, I'm sure it's gonna be a great
way to test some of the athleticism of Chilicoti because
it sounds like these two guards can really plug and
if Chilicopia wants to pressure, if New Lexi's two best

(02:51):
players are guards, I'm support for New Lexie two experience
guards coming back. I do know one thing.

Speaker 2 (02:56):
I'm not the smartest guy in the world, but Coach Beard,
you've got to be tickled to death and I remember
last year Forbes Hammond telling me when they switched to
classes Chilicothie. The last two years, if we did their
tournament game, they played ol in Tanzy Orange.

Speaker 1 (03:09):
I think we went to the sweet.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Sixteenth Running Clock last year they had to go to
Newark Running Clock, one of the top teams in Central Ohio.
They won't get mad, they don't have to go to
Central District, but I don't think early on, at least
then I get it matched up with one of those
huge schools, which really was a mitch match, and I
think that's a long way down the road, but much
fairer tournament wise, cup tournament time.

Speaker 1 (03:29):
For the cast.

Speaker 3 (03:30):
Well.

Speaker 1 (03:30):
I think it's an interesting point because again there's been
so much discussion of what does it mean to go
from four divisions seven divisions. I think you make a
great point. The actual teams that was meant to help
out were the teams like Chili Coffee. It was to
help the Division one and Division two there kind of
get some of the really really big schools away, and
then as you get into three, four, five, sixty seven,

(03:50):
it starts to even and that a little bit. So
you're right, I does bring a lot more optimism to
the Chili Coothie program. Agree.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Absolutely. And the other thing is the league. You were
talking a little about the conference play, and we'll see
how that goes. I think I think the Caps got
a couple of wins over McClain last year. I think
they got one mon Lague and one other win in
the league possibly, I don't recall top of my head,
but I think they'll be able to compete. There's some
big teams. Hillsboro should be good, Miami Trace good again.
So and of course Jackson has been good the last

(04:18):
several years. A lot of those athletes coming off of
football and they usually do pretty well in basketball.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
So we shall see.

Speaker 2 (04:24):
But certainly tournament time I think will be a much
better draw out of us, much better matchup come around
that time and late spring for the CA in the
early spring for the Caps.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
Well again, we're coming up on about four or forty
here in the warm up session here, getting ready to
bring you ChIL Coffee's second game of the season. Hope
you had a chance to hear us over the weekend.
As Chila CoFe got off to the one and o start,
they forced thirty one turnovers and jumped out to a
thirty one to twelve halftime advantage over Dina went on
to win that game fifty five twenty one. They were

(04:55):
led by Cayden Cox with twelve in that game, Cooper
Stone King eight and you'll say an mate, but again
a lot of that was just about two and a
half three quarters of play. So you come in tonight,
you talked about ramping it up, you talked about the
challenge ahead and the new lex. I would say, this
is a perfect measuring stick for coach Beard. What would
be a key obviously to win the game, but what

(05:15):
would be a key that Coach Beard would want to
bring out of this? You think, is we about a
week away now from FAC?

Speaker 2 (05:21):
I think early in the season is Shane, you've been
around a while too, not as old as I am,
but I think of those early games, there's a magic
timing between patients and pushing it, and I think he
doesn't want to get out of control. They've got some speed,
but I would guess one thing, certainly, you never want

(05:41):
to turn it over. I think hike twise, I should
be able to rebound. But I would think one of
the things he wants to see is early on a
little bit of experience, especially with one at the point.
Let's push it, but let's be patient, not till one passage.
Jim chuck up a three. Well, and I had a
chance to visit a practice last week.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
Appreciate Coach Beard bringing me in and and just kind
of sitting to the side and watch man, it really
jumps out at you. A really really special athleticism. Yes,
and so forth. So excited to get a going. Well,
We're going to take a quick time out and then
we'll come back with some starting lineups and be close
to tipball. You're listening to Chilicoffee Boys basketball and WBX.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Welcome back New Lexicon High School. I'm Shane Combs alongside
Greg Bighem and we're coming down under a minute to
go here and warm ups and we'll get going to
the national anthem just a second again. Chilicafee enters at
one to zero for New Lexic thon. This is their
opener on the season. Again, if you weren't with us
there in that first segment, they come in twenty one
to five. A year ago district runner up. They win

(08:49):
their small division half of the Buskingham Valley League and
as we mentioned, led by two outstanding guards. Isaiah Stevens,
who is the player of the Year in that conference
last year went on to be second Team Ohio and
then Bentley Handsome the honorable mentioned Ohio by court mate.
So again quite a challenge for Chilicothy so at this
time we're going to stay stay with it, but we're

(09:13):
going to go with the national anthem and then we'll
get some starting lineups for you and and the tip
while they've.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
Done have the I assume our first game because it
was varsity the only other night, but the Cadler JVS
went in the openers night thirty five to twenty one.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
They actually beat Zane Tracing the tip off that they
got a change to play in a morning game there
that day.

Speaker 10 (09:32):
Yep, America, please stand and join in the playing the
part national anthem.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Bt S.

Speaker 1 (11:04):
Again. A nice job by new Lexington pep band. Nice
atmosphere here for Tuesday night non league game and I'm
glad you said that. Greg. Yeah, in the tip Off
Classic where Chillicothe was playing the night kappas of varsity,
obviously the JV group got a chance to go out
that morning and play Zane Trace got him will win there.
So with the night's whin they're off to two and

(11:24):
oh start. So congratulations to the to the JV Cavaliers
starting lineups tonight. It looks like Chilicothe will go with
one Miller there in the back court. The talented senior
guard he obviously talented wide receiver. We had a chance
to watch off fall terrific athlete there in the back

(11:48):
court with him. Greg mentioned the very talented sophomore Cayden Cox.
Then he'll go Cooper stone King and Andrew Hammond across
the forward spot in h and then with the said, oh,
I'm sorry, I think we're gonna have a switch up
here tonight. It's gonna be Cam Badger. It looks like
so Cam Badger will be in the starting lineup and

(12:10):
not uh Andrew Hammond. I apologize on that, and then
uh Daniel Sism in the middle for Chilicothe's there, So
again Badger, Miller, stone King, Sism and Cox over on
the new Lexicton side, we mentioned the outstanding backcourt of
Isaiah Stevens and Bentley Hanson. They'll be joined in the

(12:31):
new lext starting lineup by Lane Ratliffe, the shooting guard,
just the sophomore, Paul Stinson, a junior forward, and then
Eli Stevens power forward, the sophomore. So again two Stevens there,
Isaiah and Eli along with Bentley Hanson, Lane Ratliffe and

(12:52):
Paul Stenson. So coming up on the final minutes here
before tip Greg kind of the first road test, even
though the first game was a little bit of a
neutral site. I guess. I know coaches always say that
first two to three minutes really important to get off
to a good start, and they're gonna be the road
Warriors for a while.

Speaker 2 (13:10):
Shane, the coach bears walk up. I think we talked about.
I think they go to Warren Saturday. Yeah, long trip
down to the river, and then they turn around and
go to Marysville.

Speaker 1 (13:18):
I've met next Tuesday, Tuesday, Saturday, Tuesday. It'll be a
while where they get to open up at at Chella Counthy.
So tonight New Lux should be a good match up.
You know, I didn't even look, and Shane, you can
help me out. I think the Calves are they D.

Speaker 2 (13:33):
Three then with the seven divisions, I believe I believe
it is three and a lot of the FAC teams
falling out three or four depending on how But again
I'm guessing there so I probably shouldn't do that. But
but again it goes back to much much better than
the alternative back in the Ford Division set up. Again,

(13:56):
I had mentioned Andrew Ham he had started in the
opener there for the as tonight with Cam Badger taking
to start, those six guys will play a lot of
minutes for coach Beard.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
Chilicothe has been announced. They walk out to the circle
and they're awaiting their opponent as they go through the
non starters on the New Lex side, and then they'll
go to the New Lex starters.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Yeah the other Thankshane, and you've put as any game
and we're early in the year. I think if Chilicothee
does indeed, and we talked about the best players maybe
being the guards for New Lex, I assume they'll try
to pressure, and so how how close we let your guard,
Will they let you bump, will let you shove a
little bit if you want to put pressure in the
aggressive defense, and I think Chillakopy is deep enough to

(14:44):
handle that. But that would be that's always a part
of it. You have to recognize that early when you're
playing basketball. Well, I think there's different types of that.
One is the obvious to how many different kids can
you bring in? But two, I think there's some versatility
on this Chilocoffee team. I don't think there's just one
defensive stopper.

Speaker 1 (15:00):
Like if you're wanting to play some ball, pressure I
think coach Beard has three or four different ways.

Speaker 11 (15:04):
He can go.

Speaker 1 (15:05):
He has some I wouldn't say Chilocote for this level
of high school basketball is a huge team, but they're
certainly not small. They have some some medium size, some
good links and good athleticism. So be interested how it
plays out.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
I think the capsule, if they can get some rebounds
for some chariers, they're going to push it up. I
think they have an advantage quickness and speed WIY So
we shall see what happens.

Speaker 1 (15:29):
Well, here we go about ready to get it underway.
It's going to be cocks for Chilicothee and Isaiah Stevens
for new Lux to jump circle. Cox gets up and
wins the tip backtips. It's a badger, And here we go.
As one miller brings us across the timeline. Chilcotie goes
right side. It's stone King, one says them. On the cut.
Not there, back out top, it's Miller, Miller over to Cox.

(15:54):
Chilicothe's showing some good patients here. On the opening possession,
it's stone King out top off the badger. He drives hard,
left hand down the middle all the way to the rim.
Shot won't go but we're going to have a foul.
Nice drive to the bucket. You had about a half
a step, took it down the left side of the
lane and bounder. I'm gonna talk about Cam with US

(16:17):
football or basketball. He's all over the floor, gets his
hands on the ball. Can kind of play outside or inside.
Cam coming off an injury late in the year. Great,
you'll remember what we documented that well at the end
of the fall where Chili Coffee forced to play without
Cam the last several weeks, and really he's only been

(16:37):
full go here for a week or two. First one
no good, Second one is good. Chili Cooffee on the board,
takes a one nothing lead. We're just twenty five seconds
into this one. Here comes full court pressure. We talked
about Seane Steven's across the timeline over to Hanson, comes

(16:57):
left side, wants to look in the post back outside.
If it's right left, Now it's over to Stevens. He'll reset.
Calls for the ball screen Eli Stevens comes out and
gives it to him. Good hedge from sim there. Now
it's over on the right side. That's handsome for the
deep three and again just as advertised, deep three nothing
but net Dow lefts out to the three to one advantage.

(17:18):
Just one minute into this one. Now it's Cock's right side,
watches Sism off of the ball screen in the role,
saysm gets and misses. It gets to the off, it's
read on back out and it's left side. It's Bager
for three and he knocks it down. So Bager with
all four for Chili Coffee Calves lead at four to three.

(17:41):
Canting across the timeline guarded the hereby Miller postfeed inside
Eli Stevens and looks like ChIL Cofee playing behind the
post is going to be called for coming over the top.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
You don't want you'd like for Daniel not to get
in the foul sho you just you said he playing
behind you reached over the top.

Speaker 1 (18:03):
This first team first Hanson on the inbound, nice little
rip through drive to the middle and Hanson scores once again.
He has all five for new Les. They lead at
five to ford. He's quick. Cox on the drive right hand,
comes back to the left, somewhat of a force, couldn't
get the called shot, goes off out comes new Les.

(18:25):
They'll play with moderate pace, come up, throw it into
Eli Stevens. They run a little hand off back to
Isaiah Stevens and his three is no good. Out comes Cox.
He'll look the push nothing there, He'll pitch it back.
Miller into says a great cut from stone King, bounce
past and they did everything right but finished the layup.

Speaker 2 (18:44):
Nothing doing. Out comes new Lex with a rebound. That's
two pretty much uncontested lamps so far. Mess by the
cow Yes, super cut, super pass. He lefts back here
in the half court set.

Speaker 1 (18:59):
Stevens goes the right hand, spins back to the left
and gets this strong hand the left and lays it in.
Isaiah Stevens his first bucket. Someone's telling me, I believe
he's already new Les all time leading scorer, just playing
on an opening night here in a senior season. Now
top Miller flair screen comes over to Badger on the

(19:21):
right side. He drives hard to the left hand again
and they're going to call him for steps this time
on the travel. Pretty good job from Hanson cutting him off.

Speaker 2 (19:28):
Air cam wanted to fout a little bit of contact
and went down to the deck and that's the first
turnover for either team.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
Sheilicithie continues to pick up in the full court once
new Lex waves them away. They'll stay just one on
one ball pressure and it's Hanson coming up against Miller.
How it's Eli Stevens off of a back screen. He
goes down, he catches it and lays it in as
the defense trail. New les out to a nine to
four advantage. Back comes Chilicothee Stone, team drives middle pulls

(20:03):
up on an elbow jump or no good pretty good
box out from Eli Stevens. Siem saves it for the Calves.
The new Lex will have possession. Out comes Hans, and
he'll come across the timeline. Steven's gonna set a high
ball stream now he'll he'll pop off of that. Now
it's back to Hanson. He thought about a three drives.
Middle comes left side at Steven's in the corner. He

(20:27):
gets to the middle again, the same fake and stepped through.
Better job by chilicothe that time. And I think they're
gonna get Steven's on the foul on the rebound.

Speaker 2 (20:36):
Now the Calves have opened up there one, two, three, four,
one for five from the field so far, missing a
couple fairly easy shots, so there's some contact. So off
a little bit of a cold shooting start for the
caves and we're gonna get our first up.

Speaker 1 (20:51):
Yeah, I got hamm And coming into the game for Chilcathie.
He replaces Badger over on the New Lex side. Mile
Achai Thresher enters, as does Corey Adam One Miller hard
on the drive, gonna draw contact.

Speaker 12 (21:11):
They have.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
They got ratloff on the foul.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
Ratlaf was never got out in front of one. He
was from the side and just make too much contact
picks up the foul. So a couple of quick fouls
there on New Lex out of bounds underneath the opportunity.

Speaker 1 (21:29):
Good screen from Siam and they hit ham And flying
down the middle him and lays it in for his
first bucket. It was a nice inboundce fly nine to
six New Lex just under four minutes first quarter. Good
pressure from Chilicoffee almost causes the turnover, but once they
miss New Lex able to make the long pass. It

(21:49):
gets through somehow and Isaiah Stevens is gonna get fouled and.

Speaker 2 (21:53):
Take a trip to the free throw line. First free
throws for New Lex. One attitude Kyle Line and Cam Badger,
who is one of two from the free throw line,
is going to come back in the game. A good shooter,
missus that early free throw. Sure he didn't miss many, No,
not all. With the point totals that we've been given,

(22:19):
the system's going to come out. It's got the one foul,
but mainly to give him a little bit of a
rest and miss both free throws.

Speaker 1 (22:24):
How about time Cox flies high there for the rebound.
He wanted to throw it ahead and Hanson just took
it right out of the hand, right out of the air,
two hands, good catch, good steal. Back comes new Les
Stevens down the middle to the left hand up and
under a nice soft touch in the finish Isaiah Stevens.
He has four new lex leads at eleven six were

(22:47):
three twenty five. First quarter, Miller hand off to Hammon
down on the right in the right corner. Hammon drives
hard baseline, takes the base line kick. Now it's Miller
lost that momentarily got it back. Cocks out top, guarded
by Hanson. Wants to get to his left hand. Now

(23:10):
pitches at the miller. Miller will try middle kicks out
and badger. I couldn't tell if he was behind the
three point line. Grave they got him in contact on
the shot. Are they going to give him three?

Speaker 2 (23:20):
Here got a leef, so Cam was shot the only
prethos one out of two, and I think he's going
to get three. One of those where the defense or
come defensive man came flying out and couldn't stop his
momentum and Billy hit Cam after he took the shot.

Speaker 1 (23:38):
Cam will go to the line. First one is good.
I didn't see who they called that foul on, but
I think that's their Their fourth team file might have
been twenty two. Second one good.

Speaker 2 (23:55):
Off the bench. That would be Thresher. Another coach wasn't
too happy with them.

Speaker 1 (24:00):
Hew, you fly at that three point shooter and you
got to let him come dance right. Good job, he's
good on all three of them, so Badgeer're off to
a four for five start from the line. He has
seven of the chili coffee nine. New Leux leads an
eleven nine that comes Hanton up top. Thresher now over

(24:21):
to Stevens. Back up to Hanson wants to go one
on one. Pretty good job there by Miller off the
dribble defensively. Now it's Stevens outside guarded by Cox, New
left showing some patient two and a half minutes here,
first quarter, New Leux leads an eleven nine. Hanson has
it out top one of our longer possessions of the

(24:42):
first quarter with Chilicoffee doing a great job on the
lo ball defense. Now it's rattlerff Over on the left
side goes to drive on stone King and I think
they're gonna get him on the bump. I think that's
his second, isn't it. I think so? And quickly some
for the Caps.

Speaker 2 (24:59):
Carte ligan outstanding freshman football player going to come in
the game, and Cooper will come out.

Speaker 1 (25:09):
Tobie underneath. They go out top thresher. Then they want
to run a little flex action and Steven's as a
result comes off for three no good loose ball lig
and diving to the floor, bodies flying ball out of bounds.
I think it's going to favor the Cavaliers and they'll
take the possession. Look like a hot potato.

Speaker 2 (25:27):
About five guys had a hold of it, kept bouncing
off everyone and finally went out of bounds.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Coming up on two minutes here in the opening quarter,
New Lex leads at eleven nine. Miller shouts out direction,
walks it across the timeline, goes left side badger. Badger
looks to drive, falls down and as a result he's
going to travel Hopefully he's okay, looks like just lost
his footing and obviously once he went down, Reth had
no choice but to call the travel.

Speaker 2 (25:57):
Not for many he turned his ankle, but he just
his footing went to the deck. As the Cavs third
turnover in the first quarter, new les you have to
have a turnover, and there's one of their first one.

Speaker 1 (26:08):
Isaiah Stevens loses it, out comes cocks. He drives hard
to the left hand cut off there by right loft.
He stayed with it into a post up opportunity. And
I think if that's on right, if I think that's
his second which is going to draw a sub from
the new Lex bench, I think both teams should be
shooting now right. Let's see.

Speaker 13 (26:40):
Everywhere you look, things are getting more expensive. So at
Consumer Cellular we're lowering the price for those fifty in up.
Now you can get unlimited talk, text and data for
thirty dollars a line when you buy two. That's just
sixty dollars a month for two unlimited lines. So if
you're fifteen up, make the switch and save come onlearn
this call one eight eight eight freedom or visit consumer

(27:04):
cellular dot com today requires two lines of service, age
validation and credit approval subject to system and area limits,
taxes and other FeAs of pie.

Speaker 1 (27:13):
Back with you, sorry about the technical problem. Cayden Cox
missed both free throws read by Hanson of new Lex,
and that keeps new Lex out in front of eleven
to nine. We come up under a minute and a
half here in the opening quarter. Its left side over
the fence and tries the throat in the post and
off the way. Nice job by the chilicoffee defense this

(27:34):
Eli Stevens returns replacing Thresher there for the Panthers, and
Sism will return for the Calves, replacing Badger. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (27:48):
With Sism out, Hamlin was playing a defensive post position
and al Saism back in there. All nice dish.

Speaker 1 (27:54):
Outstanding action off the ob under they get. Hanson steps
into the middle, dumps the pie Eli Stevens. He lays
it in. Nicely done by Hanson to set up his
post player for the easy too. Thirteen to nine New
LECs under a minute to play now in the first quarter.
Chilcoffee back on the other end. It's hamming off the
right hand dribble, pulls up with the free throw line.

(28:15):
No good, and I think they're going to get chili
coffee up over the top on the rebound, it says
the second and he's going to come right back out certainly,
don't doubt the effort. Just gotta be careful in the
contact there with the foul trouble fifty seconds in the

(28:37):
opening quarter. Here, we'll see what new Lex decides they do.
It'd be a long time to hold it against the
ball pressure. And speaking of ball pressure, Kayman Cox forces
a carry there on Isaiah Stevenson. So chilicothee doing a
nice job, and now they're going to talk about it.
I don't know that they did. They have an indvertent whistle.
I mean he certainly carried it up on his shoulder.

Speaker 2 (29:01):
Yeah, he he lost control, went up high, but he
didn't continue to dribbled.

Speaker 1 (29:05):
When it came down.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
He stopped. And I think that's what they're correcting now,
that it was not a carrying the basketball or travel
because he did pull up the stump.

Speaker 1 (29:15):
New Lex will maintain possession forty five seconds remaining Cox
again outstanding ball pressure against stevens Now it's hands and
up top back over to Stevens. He lets a three
fly no good rebound for Hammon. Thirty seconds to play
out comes Schilicoffee. Miller will look to push a little bit,
drives hard right hand middle, does a good job with

(29:37):
his feet to avoid the travel, but then as he
tries to get the layup up on the rim, unable
to do so, and ball comes out and looks like
we're going the other way. Looks like we have a
cavalier foul. So fouls on lawn.

Speaker 2 (29:55):
Tried to drive down the lane and then in trying
to shot an air ball and heavy trap if he
tried to get the ball back and picked up the foul,
and you send a good shooter to the foul line
and Hanson although u luxo for two from the Charity
strike here in the first quarter. Hanson's first one is good.

Speaker 1 (30:17):
He'll get another chillicothe You'll have nineteen point eight to
go the other way and try to cut into this
early new Lex lead, which is currently fourteen to nine.
Make it fifteen to nine. It's Hanson makes good on
the second one. He has seven fifteen to nine new les.
Here comes Chilicothee, looking for the final shot of the court.
Miller gives way to Hammon. Now it's over on the

(30:39):
left side. It's Cox. Cox with a hand off the
badger out top to the ligand he drives hard right
hand down. The middle ball comes loose. Ligan gets it
back momentarily, and then that's going to be the buzzer
to bring us to the end of the first quarter.
At the end of one here at new Lexington High School,
New Lexington leads Chilicothee fifteen to nine. We'll take a

(30:59):
quick time out the Shane Colmes and Greg Big. If

Speaker 13 (31:50):
Everywhere you look, things are getting more expensive. So at
Consumer Cellular we're lowering the price for those fifty and up.
Now you can get unlimited architect and data for thirty
dollars a line when you buy two. That's just sixty
dollars a month for two unlimited lines. So if you're
fifty and up, make the switch and save. Come on,
you've earned this call one eight eight eight freedom or

(32:13):
visit Consumer Cellular dot com today requires two lines of service,
AH validation and credit approval, such a tidsystem and area limits.
Taxes another FeAs apply.

Speaker 2 (32:24):
So quick stants here Shane for cavaliers just two of
eight from the floor, and there are four to seven
from the foul line. New Lex sixty percent or six
of ten, but they're two of four from the file line.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
Caps have four turnovers. New Lex just the one first
possessionator to start to second quarter. A little quick hitter
action and new Lex is able to spring Bentley Hansen free.
He knocks down the triple, and he's all to an
out standing start.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
Three for three, two for two from the three point line,
gets ter obviously absolutely new Leux is doubled up.

Speaker 1 (32:56):
Chelkazi now eighteen to nine. Back home the Calves, it's
Cocks over on the right wing. Over to the left side.
It's Badger looking to go one on one, drives down
the middle and he's gonna be called for the offensive foul.
They're gonna take it the other way. Pretty good help
defense there from the Panthers. So at the offensive foul,

(33:25):
new Lex will have it in the full court on
the spot Chila coffee as they did in the first quarter,
picking up a little token man to man. Stevens will
bring it up one on one against Cox, Spend dribble
across the timeline, now down the middle to his left hand,
gets it up on the rim. No good, strong rebound Badger.
He'll look to turn and push. Stephen knocks it away

(33:47):
from behind and it's a turnover for Chillicothee and New
Lex will regain possession. Six turnovers for the Calves. That's
something I'm sure Coach Beard didn't want to see. Left side.
It was out of He's not only swinging all the
way around again, Hanson with an outstanding pass to the
thresher looked like he was going to fall out of bounds.
He dumps it underneath the thresher and he lays it in.

(34:09):
That's his first bucket of the night. But you know, Greg,
the Hanson kids outstanding player off to ten points. I
know it's his second outstanding pass that's given a teammate
an easy one. And as it's just a short time out,
we'll stay here. But just your your thoughts are nearly going.
I know statistically you're talking about Charlic Hathey needing to
be a little bit more efficient on the offensive end. Well,

(34:30):
they're they're doing a good job.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
They're keeping a hand up in the face and a
lot of pressure on Isaiah Stevens's their second team turning
All Ohio player. But Hanson, the other senior, I think
you said he was horrible mention he had missed a shot.
He's perfect from the foul line, he's perfect from the field.
He's got eight points and right now the Cavs are
getting a good matchup. KOs has done a pretty nice

(34:52):
job on Stevens. He's got that length to height on him.
But Stevens is not a real big kid, but he's
just quick and he right now. That's the big mismatch
for the cabs. They gotta figure out something to stop you.
I think it's well said on your part.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
I think for the size, really bothering Stevens at the rim,
out of the time out Chilocafee possession. Cock strives hard
down the middle, pushes the ball out in front contact
at the rim, no call out comes to new Lex.
They'll look to push with numbers left side, three ball up.
No good. So that was Adam on the shot. Now
it's Hansome. He finally misses a shot and out comes

(35:28):
ligging with the rebound for Chill Coffee. Cox will look
to push up the left side. Thought about the three.
Now we'll pull up at the free throw line. No
good outstanding rebound from cartap ligan to win. Chili coathe
another possession. Now Miller, he got a little quick. He's
going to be called for the travel and again Chili
Cofee turns it over.

Speaker 2 (35:51):
Again and much like Flash. I mean, the calves like
to run. They don't have an inside presence. Sism is out.
They don't really have a big man insight. But right
now everything is from the firmator and based on somebody
trying to drive to the bucket and they're not getting
a lot of clean goods.

Speaker 1 (36:06):
Click clean shots cows Supilian for the first time for
new Lex. Chili Coffee defends the first action pretty well,
so Stevens will step back and reset it. He Lex
keeps the middle pretty open there, looks to go off
the dribble. Pretty good job by stone King to cut
it off. Now Stevens for three on the outside and

(36:28):
pretty good position for Chili Coffee. They're going to draw
the foul in the rebound. One of Chili Coofee's most
sound defensive possessions, and it ends with a good box out.

Speaker 2 (36:36):
Stevens the all Ohio players has miss five shots. Now
he is only two of five two layups that he
was able to get to the bucket, and he's over
from the three point line.

Speaker 1 (36:47):
Von Miller pitches it right side Haim and he'll swing
it all the way over left side to stone Jam
cut off there by hands and now it's cocks back
up top to Hammon again. Chilicafee on the drive, pretty handsy,
but new Lex been able to keep him out of
the middle. Now Miller will look to drive, he'll spend,
he'll get deep all one out stone King for three

(37:08):
had a good look at it, no good and on
the rebound, well, I thank ham and that might have
been they're going to go the other way. That might
have been a in set of call in a fiule.
I'm gonna get all the new Lex here, because again
they could have easily maybe had hamming from behind.

Speaker 2 (37:22):
Nonetheless, new Lex possession to your best score is stone
King and Cox. They're zero for five from the field
in the early gone. But I haven't got a lot
of clean looks, kind of shooting on the move or
not getting both feet have a chance to get set.

Speaker 1 (37:35):
Well, there's a travel maybe Hanson gets really deep again
another nice pass, but this time Rupe unable to finish.
Out come Chilicaifie with one of their best open court
opportunities and card a Liggan and Cayden Cox. They execute
two on one. Ligan dumps it off and Cox lays
it in. Nicely done, twenty to eleven. New les out

(37:56):
in front were coming up on four and a half
minutes to halftime. Group over on the left side wants
to back in on Liga. He walls up pretty well
to jump up no good. Nice job by the freshman
defensively that balls knocked out. So again Roupe trying to
isolate Ligan there down into the block, and thought the
freshman did a nice job of walling up and holding

(38:17):
this position. Well. I had the ball entered in here
and I think we had time out over on the
side here. Yeah, hell, New Lex had substitution when ahead
and called the time out short time out here again,

(38:39):
we'll just study here. And I thought that last opportunity
out in the open court shows a little bit what
Chilicafee can get from their defense and from the defensive rebounds.
If they're able to continue to shore up the defensive end,
I think that's certainly somewhere that they could find some
easy points.

Speaker 2 (38:56):
They I think they've gotten in the last couple of
times the New Lex went inside. You two guys who
were off the not didn't start the game Thresher and Route,
and they weren't able to down deep.

Speaker 1 (39:06):
With the low post.

Speaker 2 (39:07):
Score that they're not much as much of a scoring threat.
So they've shut down Stevens. But again the key has
been pretty ventry Hanson, and again they did following force
him to.

Speaker 1 (39:18):
Miss a shot.

Speaker 2 (39:20):
See if the Cavs try something, maybe they can post
up and then go inside back out.

Speaker 1 (39:25):
They do get tried to get some outside picks. Now
kind of looks like they run a little ball screen
series here, but I think I think they're going to
get an I legal screen. I think I think Ligan
kind of got the hip out there to the right
as as Hammond was coming off of we're gonna have
an offensive foul ball. It was a ball screen. They're dribbling.

Speaker 2 (39:45):
Ligan tried to set it and didn't quite get set.

Speaker 1 (39:47):
Called for the offense is a legal pick. Hanson brings
it back across the timeline, guarded by Miller. Out's over
on the right side. Steven off of Baalstreen, gets the
left hand in the middle. His shot up on the rim.
No good, but they're gonna call foul. I think they
got Cocks on the contact. I couldn't see the number.

(40:10):
Might have been. It might have been ligging. Surely Carte
was called for the foul. Maybe it was Cocks.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
And now Steven is so good again this air opening game.
But this guy's over three from the foul line and
he's missed what we'll tell you, six straight shots in
the field. So opening night, I almost wonder if he
played football. Sometimes it takes a.

Speaker 1 (40:32):
Little little wall to come off of football. Well, I
think all I think all five starters were on their
football team. That was a regional semi final. Just here said,
probably haven't been in the Jackson. That's well called on
your part. Probably only been in the gym. What'd you
say two a half three weeks.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
I think Steven's picked up that foul trying to contest
the rebound as well. But the Caps only eleven point
Shane and three and a half to play in halftime.

Speaker 1 (41:01):
Yeah, they trail twenty to eleven. Now it's badger hard
on the drive, got all the way to the rim,
couldn't finish it. Good hustle from Cox to keep it alive.
He knocks it back out Stone King had a good
look at it. His three ball won't fall out comes
new Lex with the rebound. Hanson coming up the right side,
wants to play downhill, but Miller up to the challenge
on the on ball defense. Ken Miller and Cox done

(41:23):
a pretty good job defensively out top here for Chory
Coffee over on the right side. Hanson calls the ball
screen away. Now he'll go out top. It's Adam left
side Stevens. Stevens showing patience again, and I think Hammon's
going to be called for the foul. Flitch. Beard can't

(41:46):
even show his hands.

Speaker 2 (41:49):
Eli Stevens gonna come back in. He's got two buckets
inside four points. Pretty good minutes off the bench from
Rupe wasn't able to hit a shy bit, probably biggest
guy inside of these banging around in there on the boards.

Speaker 1 (42:04):
Twenty to eleven. New Lex leads it two point fifty
four left in the half. It's hid him on the
step through leaning shot. No good out comes Cox. At
ChIL Cothe, he goes right side. Miller spotted up for
three and he got it, knocked it down. They had
a whistle. I think there was a call away from
the ball. Let's see if the SHOT's going to be counting.

(42:26):
He does count it, but it looks like it's going
to go the other way on Chilacathe. But give one
Miller the three ball. It's his first three of the game.
Cuts it to twenty to fourteen.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
Second three of the night for the Cavs. Batcher hit one.
Now the foul that was ather thout. Believe they called
on twelve. Maybe on Andrew Hammond underneath trying to look
for a rebound, and we're going to walk to the
other end and Panther's going to get his shoot to
free throws. The three pointer that Shane just told you.

Speaker 1 (42:58):
It was good.

Speaker 2 (42:58):
Finally got the calves off the number eleven. They'd only
scored two points in the first six or first five
minutes of this second quarter.

Speaker 1 (43:06):
To take that back there, they're showing twenty thirteen on
the board. I'm wanting to guess they had a foot
on the line there. It's only gonna be a two,
So that's a two for one. Miller on the other end. Now,
Hanson's first free throw is good. He'll get another shot,

(43:28):
rolls in nice touch from Hannsen. He's four for four
from the charity strike. He's been outstanding here in the
first half. Twenty two thirteen. New Lex leads at two
thirty five remaining in the first half. Miller comes up
and backs it out and points some directions and now
he'll come off a ball screen from Cox. He'll go
right side stone King. Stone King thought about the three

(43:49):
that he picked up his dribble out top Cox. He'll
swing it left side, hamming over right side Cox. Cox
will drive hard to the middle, cut off off there
out stone King on the drive. He gets all the
way to the rim and unable to lay it in
and again Chilicothee been to the rim about three times,
unable to get at the fall.

Speaker 2 (44:08):
Cooper is just there's a lid on the bucket for
Cooper tonight. He just can't get a lay up to
drop four threes ozh for five from the field. A
little bit frustrated. He couldn't believe that didn't go in.

Speaker 1 (44:18):
Hanson and Stevens played a little uh scissor action off
of the high post shot no good from Hanson. Out
comes Badger at Chilicothee. Stone King up top, goes left side,
cocks out's over left side the stone King.

Speaker 2 (44:37):
Yeah for nobody in the from and or five guys
way on the outside on the perimeter offense here for Chilicothee.

Speaker 1 (44:43):
There we go penetration from Badger kicks it out left
corner and stone King knocks down the triple much needed
for Chilicothee, and Chilicothee cuts it to twenty two sixteen
one nineteen to go. Chilicoffee with a chance kind of
to survive the half here, but they've had trouble scoring
the basketball over on the right side. It's Isaiah Stevens

(45:06):
guarded by Miller, tries to get down the middle. Great
job by Miller walls up. Now a back door Outam
and they just lost him on the cut. Corey Itam
lays it in twenty four to sixteen. Were under a
minute to play right side of him and back out
top Byger wants to go one on one, spins the middle,

(45:26):
draws the contact. Then he's gonna go to the free
throw line. Cam Badger's certainly been aggressive. He shot five
free throws there in the first quarter. Now he's gonna
get a chance to go to the line and shoot
two more.

Speaker 2 (45:39):
If Cam hit the early three, then four foul shots,
he's got seven. He had seven of the first nine
for Chilicon out heat and then gonna go back to
the line shoot two more.

Speaker 1 (45:50):
Again, big free throws for chili kythe a chance to
just kind of survived the half a little bit. But
the first one no good. It's like a living is
gonna come back. I can and Coach Beard signals that
he's for the shooter, so Cam Biger will get one
more here. If he's able to knock it down, then
Ligan will enter the game for him four fifth or

(46:13):
excuse me, forty five point one remaining until halftime. New
Le's up twenty four to sixteen. Bager's second free throw
is good. So again, as we said, Ligan winner the
game for Bager twenty four to seventeen. Let's see if
New Lex attempts to hold it for one shot Chilicothy's
going to extend it out on a Chilicothe's got to

(46:34):
be careful here because they've got New Lex into the
bonus situations. You don't want to cheap foul and put
him on the free throw line. Stevens comes across the
timeline guarded by Cox. As Greg said, Cox done a
really nice job on him here in the first half,
hands it off to Hanson again. New Lex will play

(46:54):
a little time and score as it looks like they're
going to try to knock this clock all the way
down and see if he and get the final shot
of the half. Stevens bakes it out a little bit
more all the way out, just shy of the half
court line. Cox walks out there with him a little
bit to get the five count. Now, Stevens comes down
Kitchens into the game for chilicothe does a nice job

(47:16):
on the help. Now it's going to be a deep
three for and then the offensive rebound item sneaks in
and Adam grabs the board and is going to get
fout on the pickoff. So with one second remaining, going
to be a chilicoffee file. Chilicothee had had to stop.
But now it's twenty four to seventeen. New Les going

(47:37):
to get a couple of free throw opportunities from Corey.
Adam first free throw, no good. One second, probably not
enough to do anything offensively, but this defensive rebound becomes
important if he does miss him shot up no good,
ball bounces around and I'll do We've come to the half.

(48:01):
New Lex leads at twenty four to seventeen over Chili
Cofee Shane Colmebs and Greg Bige. We'll take a time.

Welcome back This Shane comes alongside Greg Bigham. Appreciate you
being with us tonight for Chilicothe boys basketball. If you're
out there listening on fourteen ninety WBX, or over on
the FM side at ninety two seven, or out there
on the iHeart, we certainly appreciate having and we certainly
appreciate all of our sponsors. You're great. You take a
look here at in the first half. In the first quarter,

(51:58):
new Lex jumps out to fifteen nine advantage Chilicoffee. I thought,
started to find a little bit more rhythm in the
second quarter offensively, maybe couldn't get the ball to go
in to have much to show for it. And we
arrive here at the half with Chilicoffee down twenty four
to seventeen.

Speaker 2 (52:13):
What do you got for us there in the first half, Well,
very unofficially breaking me into a new new thing there,
But you know, twenty four seventeen four New Lex in
the first half.

Speaker 1 (52:23):
I have them nine of twenty one. They were sixty
percent in the first quarter.

Speaker 2 (52:28):
Slowed down a little bit in the second quarter, but
they wind up nine of twenty one forty three percent
from the floor, and they were only four of ten
from the foul on. If they shot in their free throws,
they'd be up by double figures. But likewise, Chili Coffee
didn't shoot pree throws real well either. But nine of
twenty one forty three percent Chaneil gave you the scoring
in the month, but they're led by Hanson on the night.

(52:51):
I only have new Lex with two turnovers. That certainly
was a key in the first half where chilicoth they
have them with seven, although they went to final three
or four minutes without a turnover. But I have them
unofficially seven turnovers. For the Cavaliers, I have them five
of sixteen from the floor for thirty one percent and
five of nine from the foul line for fifty five

(53:13):
and a half percent. All their fre throughs have come
from cam Badger, who's five of seven.

Speaker 1 (53:18):
From the foul line.

Speaker 2 (53:19):
Caden coxmissed it says only two, so they are five
of nine from the charity striping again on officially with
seven turnovers, So the Cavs is shooting just a little
over thirty percent. They have the two threes on the night,
although one Millers did go back.

Speaker 1 (53:35):
They changed that back.

Speaker 2 (53:36):
Cooper stone King has a three and Cam Badger has
a three, so they are two threes. And I didn't
total that out, but I'm guessing they're probably somewhere around
two for six two for seven from the three point line.
So right now they can't seem to find something to
go to and it's early in the season. They're spread

(53:58):
out there trying to drive it to the hole, get
things to happen, and hopefully the second half they'll be
able to adjust and maybe if they drive it inside,
kick it out, get some good looks at the bucket.
And Cooper made that at last three that hopefully Shane
will help out.

Speaker 1 (54:11):
He was struggling.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
He missed two or three layups shots he normally easily
makes with his eyes shut, and he did hit that
one to three. Lady missed a couple, so maybe Cooper
can get gone well. Sometimes you see it go through
a little bit. Top starts a little bit on the
scoring column.

Speaker 1 (54:25):
There tight some individual point totals to the great shooting totals.
A cam Badger leads the way for Chilicofee with eight points.
Cooper stone King, as you mentioned, knocked down the triple.
He has three and then two apiece for Andrew Hammond,
Cayden Cox and one Miller Around. Out the seventeen total

(54:45):
for chillicofee over on the new left side to get
to their twenty four, half of those belonged to Bentley Hanson.
He has twelve, four for Isaiah Stevens, two for Corey Adam,
two for MICHAELA. Thresher and then four for Eli Stevens,
but again the twelve for Bentley Hanson. Obviously he's an
outstanding player. But Greg, I know you were impressed with

(55:06):
how Chilla Coffee guarded the very talented Isaiah Stevens, holding
him to four points, but really kind of a rough
first half shooting for him. I know you're pretty impressed
with Chila Cofee's the defensive effort there. Yeah, I mentioneding
you you said the same thing.

Speaker 2 (55:19):
I think Caden Cox says once he listened six to
six y threes long and he's quick enough that even
though Stevens was able to get by him a couple
of times with that length and getting a hand up,
he didn't shoot the ball real well. I think part
of that was Kayden Cox's defense on him. Van Miller
on the other side, I thought he adjusted, you have
to figure it out. And he was guarding the other

(55:41):
quick guard, Hanson, who started off on fire. But I
think One adjusted a little bit, maybe give him a
little room. They started getting some weak side help and
Hanson didn't hurt him nearly as bad in the second quarter.

Speaker 1 (55:52):
And I thought Hanson was pretty good away from the ball.
New Lex runs some pretty good action for him, so
I thought, I thought One was really up to the
challenge on the on ball. De maybe lost team off
of some screens every now and then allowed Hanson to
get a step. So again, twenty four to seventeen. New
Les out in front. We'll take a couple of minutes
time out. We'll come back here and bring you the
second half action. You're listening to Chillicothee Boys basketball in WVEEX.

Speaker 1 (58:21):
Welcome back, Shane Colmbs, Greg Bighem here on fourteen ninety
WBX chilicoffee boys basketball New Lex leads at twenty four
to seventeen and we are ready for second half action
Chili coffee possession. As they come out looking to cut
into this seven point deficit. Cox will hand it off
over on the left side. Badger Stone King out Top
drives hard in the middle jump stop through is going

(58:43):
to be called for a little bit of a bump
as a stone King, nice aggressive drive there. Chili Cooffee
comes out pretty much the way they started. It looks
like here Badger, stone King, Cox sism and Miller ob underneath.
They throw it out top to Cox. Now he goes
right side Badger, they weave it out top. It's stone King.

(59:04):
Stone King pitches the Miller much better ball movement. Player
movement for Chilia.

Speaker 2 (59:11):
You've seen definitely, and they're getting to says them up
with the high post, setting some picks away from the basketball,
trying to not depend everything on driving penetration.

Speaker 1 (59:21):
Badger with a pull up from the left elbow, no
good out comes. New Lex with the rebound. Hanson will
bring it up against ball pressure from Miller up top
Elis Stevens. They'll they'll play a little fake hand off.
He'll go down the middle. That ball is knocked out,
Chilocothe knocks it away. We'll stay on this end with

(59:42):
new Lex Phobe underneath. For the Panthers, they they break
Stevens wide open to the left side. I was Eli
Stevens and he just plane missed it, so out comes
Chilo Coothie. Well, then they turn it over in the backboard.
Now it's Isaiah Stevenson with a little step through and
he lays it in. Isaiah Stevens kept trying to quiet

(01:00:03):
there in the first half. He's on the board here
in the second a half twenty six seventeen. New Lex
leads it. I'll top stone King for Chilcithe whose left
side to Miller over on the right side, it's him
and he drives. Now kicks it right corner stone King
three ball. He's got a nice penetration from him, and

(01:00:24):
to set up his teammate Cooper stone King his second
triple with the ninety s six. The new Lex lead
is six at twenty six to twenty.

Speaker 2 (01:00:32):
Yeah, Cooper hit what we talked about that last one,
you said, Shane, sometimes you hit that one and get.

Speaker 1 (01:00:36):
You going now hard on the drive, it's Layne rat
left cut off there by stone King and Riotleof's going
to be called for the travel. So stone King knocks
it down on one end offensively, then up to the
defensive challenge on the other forces the turnover.

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
He lets only two turnovers unofficially in the first half.
That's two quick ones to start.

Speaker 1 (01:00:57):
The third quarter. Chillicothe comes back. Jack Miller goes right
side Badger, gonna play off a ball screen from Sism,
nothing there, left side cocks he'll also play off. And
now the role of Sism and Sism shot fake up
gets a hansoon. Now excuse me, I think that was
Stenson up in the air, comes down, draws the foul,

(01:01:18):
but because he was on the floor, he's unable to
get the shot up. It's just gonna be ov underneath Stenson,
who battled foul trouble that whole first half, is going
to do it again here in the third quarter, and
they're going to have to go to the new Lex
bench and bring back Corey Adam ice ob under right
down the middle, stone Wall throws it around on the

(01:01:39):
rim and wishes it in and the ball does what
it was told and it falls forward. Twenty six twenty
two chilicoffee within four deep three there off of off
the left side. No good, chiliocoffee out of the rebound,
a chance to get even closer. Stone King drives hard,
dumps it off to the right side to Sism and

(01:02:00):
he lays it in. Nice job. By Chilicofe to jump
in and we'll get a full time out. We'll take
it with them. Twenty six twenty four New lex leads Chilocafee.
We'll be back in one minute. You're listening to Chili
Cooffee boys Basketball in WBX.

Speaker 1 (01:03:15):
Twenty six twenty nine, Welcome back here to New Lex
High School. Shane Holmes, Greg Big and Chilicothee Cavaliers on
a seven to o run. What was a twenty six
seventeen deficit now just at two at twenty six twenty
four forced the New Lex time out.

Speaker 2 (01:03:35):
They were thirty one percent the first app but they
come out here in the second half and three of
the first four good for Chilicothy, including that three by Cooper.

Speaker 1 (01:03:44):
Certainly more energy, just a little bit more pepping. The
step crossed, all the body language and everything. Good ball
pressure here from Chilicothe got New Lex kind of pushed
out on their offense a little bit. Now it's Hanson
wanting to drive right side, hits Stevens flying down the middle,
and it's host player Eli. Stevens goes off as he
had a pretty good look from Hanson, unable to handle it,

(01:04:04):
and then again another turnover forced by Chilicothe's defense two
in the first half. Three in the first three minute.

Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
They've only taken two shots a second half at New
Lex because of the turnovers.

Speaker 1 (01:04:15):
Great activity from Chilicothe. Ball stream out Top says them
for Badger. Badger is going to step back try a three.
Couldn't tell if it was deflected or not. Now they
just came up short. Going to go back over to
New Lex. Chilicothe will pick up in the full court.
Von Miller going to apply ball pressure to Bentley Hanson,

(01:04:37):
the outstanding guard for New Lex. Honorable mention, Ohio. Last year.
We were telling you in the pregame. Man over on
the right side. Now all alone from three, they just
back off Corey Item and he makes good of the
wide open opportunity and knocks down a triple twenty nine
to twenty four. New Lex back on top by five.

(01:04:59):
Se King looks to drive nothing there, back out, Miller
says them. To the high post. They'll throw it there
and play off of him at the elbow. Now he'll
look to go one on one and he's going to
shuffle the feed and travel four seventeen left here in
the third quarter, New Lex leads at twenty nine to

(01:05:19):
twenty four and they'll have it at full length the
court as Chilicothie, as they've done most of the night.
We'll pick up here a little bit in the full
court and Coach stone King there off the bench, just
putting a little wrinkle turning Cox around. And I don't
think Stevens noticed it. Greg he just went to throw
it in and lead his guard and throw it right
into the Chili Cooffee bench. So yeah, just like that turnover.

Speaker 2 (01:05:41):
Well I had one guy to throw it into Hanson
and Coach stone King said double team and they don't
have your mouse up the floor and they feel away.

Speaker 1 (01:05:49):
Hobie underneath Cock's over on the right side, hand off.
Miller now will play ball stream with sism over left side,
Badger back out top stone King right side. Now Cock
is of working hard for position. How it's stone King
on the drive and he's going to get called for
the off arm offensive file on the push off. So

(01:06:12):
again new LUTs with a five point lead, they'll get
it back and again Julik Coffee causing all sorts of
fits just with some full court man demand now Miller
guarding Isaiah Stevens, and Miller just simply takes it away
from him. Now it's Cox on the sprint out. He
gets out in the open court, up and under a

(01:06:32):
little bit no good, and now we've got an issue
getting back on the other end as Hanson breaks out
and he goes and he lays it in Bentley Hanson
after twelve points in the first half, he gets his
first bucket and Chilli Kathy, trying to get in the hurry,
throws it away up the right side.

Speaker 2 (01:06:50):
Well with cash play. Those first two minutes of this
quarter were by far their best. They're playing for some turnovers,
hitting shots, say, and now all of a sudden things
have gone the other way for the Calves. They've they've
had four turnovers here in the last several minutes and
eleven for the game.

Speaker 1 (01:07:06):
He had had to lay up on on on one
end to cut to three, and it comes back the
other way, and all of a sudden it's seven. There's
that high elbow action off of Stevens. They've been playing.
Now it's Eli Stevens. He steps through and up and
under a little bit of a shuffle with the feet,
no call, knocks it down on the little lean end.

(01:07:26):
Eli Stevens has six. The leads all the way to
nine at thirty three twenty four for new legs. Al
Sism drops stepping hard. Good help there from Isaiah Stevens,
and as he knocks it away, it's gonna be last
touch by the Cavaliers.

Speaker 2 (01:07:41):
Another turnover is again you're trying to make something happen,
but when you're dribbling, especially Daniel trying to dribble down
through the middle, they just got double team on him
and knocked it away. Last touch with the Calves, but
the Calves all of a sudden with twelve turnovers they
had seven in the first half.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
Five here in the third quarter, down under three minutes.
Here in the third quarter, thirty three twenty four, new
Lex and as they're running the offense, it was it
was lane ratleft with an outstanding catch, kind of went
up and still happy there. It looked like card pay.

Speaker 2 (01:08:19):
Yeah, cart Tay look thought he was playing defensive safety
there in contact trying to intercept it.

Speaker 1 (01:08:25):
Oh b under They run the little flex action that
we watched in the first half there now the off
hand from Stevens, no call and as as Miller goes down,
Isaiah Stephens just simply wide open knocks down the easy jumper.
New Lex with its biggest lead of the night at
thirty five twenty four, two and a half minutes to
go third quarter.

Speaker 2 (01:08:44):
So they've stopped their turnovers and they've hit their last
five shots in a row, last four shots in a
row for New Lux on.

Speaker 1 (01:08:50):
Nice drive, Legan just drives right by him and lays
it in and coach Pier are going to take a
quick time Outlegan's first points of the evening cuts at
the thirty five twenty six We got a short time out,
So let's stay here, Greg, I'll tell you why you
you were talking about us. Let's let's touch on a
little bit more. The seven to ozer run that forced

(01:09:10):
a new Lex timeout had us at twenty six twenty four.
Come back out. Chillicothe misses a couple of easy opportunities
at the rim. New Lex kind of goes out the
other way. Yeah, back to eleven. Now with the ligging
lay up, back to nine. What's Chillicothy got to do
here in these final a couple of minutes in the
third quarter, just the wather of the storm, I.

Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
Like the first couple of possessions and they moved the
ball well side to side out front, reversed it, and
they got picks away from the basketball. Last couple of
times down it's been the old. Okay, I'm going to
go one on one and try to get down between
five white shirts. I'm exaggerating a little bit, but but
again I think maybe a little more patient on offense.

(01:09:55):
I'd like to assume me and you also got the
guy with the hot hand, Cooper stone King had hit
a late three in the first half another three year,
but he gotten found. You know, he's out on found troubles.
That's sort of offensively as well.

Speaker 1 (01:10:07):
That's a great point back to actioneer new Leux ball
out top, Miller dock to the way. Momentarily, Hanson gets
it back. Now Hampson on the drive, forced to pick
it up out the ratlift. Ratlift guarded by the Ligan ratleft,
looks into the post, wants to get Eli Stevens. He
gives it to him, drops that move nothing there, reverse

(01:10:27):
pivot shot up, no good and is Is Stevens and
Ligan go up for the rebound. They both come down
together with it and we're gonna have a tie up
situation jump ball possession. Arrow will stay with the Panthers.

Speaker 2 (01:10:42):
Well again, I will talk a lot about Cartel Ligan
in his great football season as a freshman. He's starting
to fit right in, you know right there. I mean
came down with almost that rebound. Good defense.

Speaker 1 (01:10:55):
Yeah, Hanson might have got away with a little bit
of a walk there on. The staff got out into
the open there a little bit, tried to push the
drible on in front and just simply lost. They kicked
it out of bounds. Turn over back to the caves.
One thirty five, third quarter, thirty five twenty six. New
Lux need a bucket here. Miller right side Hammon, He'll
use the dribble to reverse it over left side Byger

(01:11:17):
hand off the Cox over to the right side Hamming.
Hammon looks to drive, kicks it right corner. Miller three ball,
No good. Thresher of New Lux down with the rebound.
If that comes Hanson guarded by Cox, He'll take a
high ball screen to get rid of Cox. Momentarily now
thresher down the middle. They're going to call the block

(01:11:39):
on the floor. No shot again, Chili cofee he filed
I'm gonna give New Lux to basketball and an obi
under opportunity. As the clock sits at one o six again,
New Lux thirty five twenty six over the cave, says
I'm gonna return for chillicothe He's going to replace Carte ligant.

Speaker 2 (01:12:04):
Good job at Cartaking, made a big bucket there to
stop that run, and good job defensively the last time
down as well.

Speaker 1 (01:12:13):
Hanson takes on the inbound shot up. No good. Sism
comes out with the defensive rebound, looks to push at
the Hammond loose ball, ball flying all over the place.
No call out comes, new Les clock ticking at fifty seconds.
Let's see if New Lucks will slow this down and
try to take the last shot they did earlier in
the game. Let's see if they're successful here in time

(01:12:35):
and score. They lead at thirty five twenty six. Isaiah
Stevens out top.

Speaker 20 (01:12:46):
Tonight, the Columbus Blue Jackets are looking to stay hot.
They'll try for their sixth win in their last seven
games as they're in Calgary taking on the Flames. Blue
Jackets Hockey starts right now.

Speaker 21 (01:12:59):
Haggard Heating, Cooling, and plumbing.

Speaker 1 (01:13:06):
Welcome to Columbus bloom Jackets hockey. Isaiah Steven's gonna drive
hard to the left hand, shot up, No good Chillacothee
comes out to one. As Badger comes up, he lets
the three of ball fly and it's short. We've come
to the end of the third quarter. New Lex leads
Chillicathee thirty five twenty six. Stay with us, I'm Shane

(01:13:27):
Colmes here with Greg Bigham. We'll be back fourth quarter action.
Listen to Chilicothee Boys Basketball and wb e X.

Speaker 21 (01:13:46):
Tusted since nineteen seventy seven, providing high quality residential and
commercial services, call to schedule and apployment today at seven
four zero two ninety nine, twenty six, twenty nine.

Speaker 17 (01:14:00):
For over fifty years, the Haller family has been here
to help families in our area remember the life of
a loved one, sure that loved one's legacy into heal
as they go through the grieving process. The Hewler family
continues to remember Sharon Hill with the area's largest, most
modern facility on site crematory, and most importantly, with their

(01:14:22):
selecting how her funeral home ensures their tribute will be
just as unique. How her funeral home helping families remember,
share and heal.

Speaker 1 (01:14:33):
Back here at New Lex High School, Shane Holmes greg Big,
I'm here on fourteen ninety WBX chilicothe and we get
ready for fourth quarter action with New Lex leading Chilcofee.
Thirty five twenty six. Coach Beard will run out stone King, Miller, Hammond,
Sism and Cox to start the final quarter. Chilicothee certainly

(01:14:55):
had their opportunities there in the third quarter, but New
Lex answered their run with one of its own. Achi
you'll have first possession. Hammond looks to drive, knocked away
from help defender Chilikathie will maintain possession.

Speaker 2 (01:15:07):
Each team had six turnovers in the third quarter. New
lext five to ten from the floor caps four of nine,
so not bad shooting. Each team made one to three
in that quarter. Miller kicks it right corner hamm and
he's got a three. Much needed there. Thirty five twenty nine.
Chilicothee cuts the lead to six. Miller at the ball pressure.

Speaker 1 (01:15:29):
Now they'll look to trap Stevens that download to right
left over left side three ball up. No good there
from Adam out comes Chilicofee with the rebound. Miller looks
to push out top stone King. Stone King will drive
hard down the middle right hand layup, no good Scism
on the put back, no good, golden opportunity. Chilicothee had

(01:15:52):
it at the rim twice, unable to finish. The lead
will remain thirty five twenty nine. But just like that,
new Lex gets in a hurry, throws it up the
left side, froze it away seven o three, remaining in
the game again. Chili Coathi right there at thirty five
twenty nine. They've had their chances here to cut this

(01:16:13):
back to one possession. Right side, it's Hammond. It's gonna
come out top Stone King, little flare screen to Hammon.
Sism gonna set a ball screen and roll nice pass
from hamm And and Sism will lay it in Daniel
Sism with a bucket set up well from hamm And
on the two man game thirty five thirty one Chili

(01:16:35):
Coffee within four Stevens up the right side, guarded by Miller.
Sism will throw a little trap in there and I'll
come out top. It's it's Eli Stevens and he'll hand
it back to Isaiah Stephens and and then now we're
gonna have one Miller on the on the foul got
a little over aggressive there, just a common foul this

(01:16:56):
side out of bounds.

Speaker 2 (01:16:57):
Either team has shot a foul shot in the second half.
Team shot foul shots well in the first half, the
Elects four to ten, the Caps five of nine. It
might come down to the fouling. I think more time,
we'll get to the endo. Well, I guess we're just
starting out the fourth quarter. There's got to be five thousand.
It could come down to the fouling. Oh Walkee traveled.

Speaker 1 (01:17:18):
Hanson all the way down the middle, uses a little
spin action, as Greg said, might have got away with
a half a step or so, and nonetheless leads and
in pushes the lead back to thirty seven thirty one.
Hanson having a big night here on New Lex opening.
He's been key Henney sheen. Yeah, three ball stones, no
good hamming with the offensive rebound and he puts it
back in Andrew Hammond giving the Chillicothee Cavaliers some good minutes.

(01:17:42):
Thirty seven thirty three New Lex ChIL Coffee won't go
away back to within four stevens across the timeline guarded
by Miller's right side. It's Stenson. Now they'll drop it
into the post to Eli Stevens. He'll go one on
one with Siam. He walls up. Nice job. He's forced
to kick it back out. Hanson thought about a three

(01:18:04):
drives to the middle, his little step through and scooped.
Nicely done. He's really a clever shot taker and maker.
Now he's not very big. All my is thrown away.
Jilakafie throws it away. Back comes the Panthers. It's rattler.
He'll wisely bring it back out and I don't think

(01:18:28):
New Lux liked for that possession. Was going to call
time out. Thirty nine, thirty three, looks like it's going
to be a short one. We'll stay here here. New
Lux leads it by six and again Chila Coofee with
every opportunity, just unable to convert a couple times there
at the rim and overall, I guess if you're gonna

(01:18:50):
look for a positive that coach Beard's got to love
how his kids are stayed with it. I don't think
they've ever been in perfect rhythm offensively, but I do
feel like Chili Coothie's effort and willingness to continue to
pete Harb on the defensive end has him here in
the fourth quarter on the road with a chance.

Speaker 2 (01:19:03):
To maybe steal one. You know, they've made another comeback.
They got it back, I'd believe within four there, and
came down and just a crazy mistake to just throwing
the ball and one wasn't looking, I wasn't expecting to
pass and it turned over and they go back down
to the other end. So just again, it's early in
the season, but enough mistakes, calvs. I have them unofficially

(01:19:24):
with fourteen turnovers, but again second game of the season,
but probably fourteen, a few more than coach Bier would
like to have. It's a lot of possessions you don't
get a chance on.

Speaker 1 (01:19:33):
Absolutely. Back to action here, New Lex possession. Isaiah Stevens
rejects the ball strain, he spins down the middle, scoop
up in good Isaiah Stevens been held in check pretty well,
but all of a sudden in the double figures as
he lays that one in back on the other end,
it was hamming on a little jump hop no good
out comes New Lex with the rebound. Steven's over to

(01:19:56):
the left side and wow, I'm gonna line up a
three ball and he's gonna knock it down and that
matches the biggest lead of the evening as New Lex
leads at forty four forty three timeout Coach Beard full
time out. We'll take it with them. We'll be back
in one minute. You're listening to Chili Coffee Boys basketball

(01:20:17):
WBX chulcoffin.

Speaker 18 (01:20:20):

Speaker 19 (01:20:35):

seven twenty nine to nine one twenty four. Participate in

That's eight four four eight four four iHeart.

Speaker 1 (01:21:21):
Welcome back here. Four thirty seven. Remaining in tonight's game
is new Lex leads Chilli Cothee forty four thirty three
and Greg. It just seems like Chilli Cofee every time
they knock on the door. Yeah, got within three or four.
New Lex pushes it back to double digits within four and.

Speaker 2 (01:21:36):
Now seven ozer run. That was a big three. But
a guy had come off the bench. Yeah. You look
at the game show. You look at Oh there's a
nice pass inside of thrown away.

Speaker 1 (01:21:46):
Yeah, Chilli coaffee on the possession out of the time out,
trying to run a little set.

Speaker 2 (01:21:49):
New Lex doesn't look that athletic per sae as far
as basketball, but what they execute pretty well on Their
guards are good. We talked about that well. Two outstanding
guards and you know guard play can win. That's a
three ball tip at the left corner there. That was Stenson.
Loose ball comes out, good hustle from Chilikathe. It's gonna
go the cavalier way, and they're gonna get the possession back.

(01:22:11):
And again certainly coming up on some go time here
as you're down before eleven in the game and you
trail by eleven, Miller across the timeline, Gonna use a
little high ball screen from him, and who will come
right off a player's screen from that nothing there, back
over to Miller. Now it's in the Cox who's posting
up the smaller right left, and you're gonna get a

(01:22:34):
hand one opportunities.

Speaker 1 (01:22:35):
He scores and draws the foul. That's a nice recognition
of the of the mismatch. Got rattleft down on the post.
Cox spins to his strong hand, which is the left hand,
finishes it and we'll get one free throw to go
with it.

Speaker 2 (01:22:52):
Cox is actually you talked about when we're coming down
the shaying. He can hang in the air, handles himself well,
sophomore of it. He's almost more effective insight of shots.
Free throw up and rolls it in good old fashion.
Three cuts it the forty four thirty six, still plenty
of time, three fifty five remaining in the game.

Speaker 1 (01:23:11):
Chila coffee, the whole court trap. Now they'll apply another
trap in the ten second call could be in the
play here as they finally throwed across the Stevens who
throws it down and new Lux disciplined not to take
the three, gonna pull it back out good, try to
run some clocks. They didn't need that three. That was
a good point, good good note shot by new LUs
and they got chilikathe chase a little bit, almost threw

(01:23:34):
it away there. Now they're going to bring it back
out Hanson and Stevens. This is where their experience goes
a long way at the guard position and they lose
at them down under an eighth. Great we'll find from
Isaiah Stevens, Corey Adam and all of a sudden, from
a role player situation, Corey Adam has ten lead back
to ten at forty six thirty six. Hammon on the

(01:23:56):
three ball from the right corner, no good. Cox high
the offensive put back, but got caught under the rim
and unable to finish the put back. Out comes new Legs.
Stevens all the way down block momentarily gets it back
and this time is going to be fouled. Isaiah Stevens.
That got to the right hand and it was a
block to believe it was badger on the block, but

(01:24:18):
he gets it back. I'm going to draw the file.
I believe that was Ham and Steven's gonna go to
the line to shoot two with his last two ammons.
Three was down in and pop back out and then
a great rebound inside and couldn't get it to go in.
First free throw no good. And Isaiah Stevens obviously a
very gifted player. You can see the skill set, just

(01:24:40):
having a heck of a time getting a free throw
to go down for him.

Speaker 2 (01:24:44):
Here to Stevens, I think he's like, oh for five
or six from the charity striving. He misses another.

Speaker 1 (01:24:50):
Missed, the big opportunity for Chilicoffee. They dodge a bullet
outcomes cos he'll look to push it and he was
going to pitch it back to stone King. They lost it.
An out come had him He's going to jump stop
and lay it in. Cory Adam having himself a night
seven fourth quarter points ten here in the second half,
twelve overall. Now pushed his new Lets out to its

(01:25:12):
biggest lead of the night at forty eight thirty six.
Miller with a jump shot just inside the three point line.
He knocks it down quick time out for coach Beard.
We'll stay here this time. That jump shot from Miller,
he's got four on the night. It cuts it to ten.
And you know, we're starting to see Chill Cothy push

(01:25:35):
the defense even more, starting to trap a little bit.
And as we we highlighted Isaiah Stevens and Bentley Hansen
their scoring ability, Greg, but here's where their experience in
ball handling really start to play a factor in time
and score.

Speaker 2 (01:25:49):
Wouldn't you agree absolutely? And I was looking here, I
don't think that one. I believe new Lex one, two, three, four, five.
They've made their last six shots in a row. There
are six of their last seven here in the quarter.
And meanwhile the Cabs are up to sixteen turnovers. But
you look at those shots. They've hit a couple of threes,

(01:26:09):
and you mentioned Adam off the bench, but almost all
the other shots, those threes that Adam made have been layups,
and we depend side where they've gotten loose.

Speaker 1 (01:26:17):
And they're a smart team. They've been very facient.

Speaker 2 (01:26:19):
They knew they had to lead, they didn't rush it,
spread it around, and they've done that twice for layups.

Speaker 12 (01:26:24):
You got.

Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
So that's an experienced team that's a team with experienced guards.

Speaker 1 (01:26:27):
Well, and it is. And I tell you it's the
experience of the guards that we just mentioned, but it's
also the experience of playing with those guards. Whenever you're
a role player and you're playing with two o ohio guards,
if you learn how to play without the ball, it's
awfully easy to lose you because there's a lot of
eyeballs obviously on those two. So Corey Adam a senior,
really coming up big here on the opening night for

(01:26:50):
New Lex. Just out of the time out, they throw
it away. Cox picks it off and lays it in.
That cuts it to eight forty eight. Team to go.
Stevens across the timeline, breaks the pressure back out to
Hanson coach Beard asking him to bring it out. He
flies down the middle. They missed the lay up and
don't finish with the rebound as Eli Stevens comes in

(01:27:13):
with an offensive rebound and a put back. No lamp
pushes at to fifty to forty. Miller looks to push hard,
jump stop, reverse pivot into the middle. Shot up. No good.
Now time starts to work against the Cabs. We're all
the way under two minutes. New Lex leads at fifty
to forty, and we're going to have a foul only

(01:27:35):
the caves thirteen files, so we're still not going to
get new Lex into the bonus. It's going to be
a side out of bounds and Chilicathie will look to
push out and deny hard here in bound into Stenson
back out Stevens. Stevens will draw the file there Cox.

(01:27:56):
That'll be the fourteenth foule. So the next foul will
put new Lex on the free throw line to shoot
two here in our quarter bonus rule five in the quarter,
the one in one no longer exists. Everything will be
the two shot foul side o b here, Steven's trying
to get it in out the Hanson. They're going to

(01:28:17):
trap him. I would think you'd want him give it up.
Now it's it's Adam. He'll go left corner. Stevens thought
about the three turned down some shots, and this is
again where new Less their time and score and their
experience starting to play a factor. Stenson had to lay
up opportunity back out. They're just gonna play keep away

(01:28:38):
from the Chilicoffee Cavaliers. As the clock ticks to one
seventeen over on the left side, now Stevens will go
ahead and let a three fly any berries that that
could be the backbreaker. Stevens with nine and a half
as he comes on here. Now Miller pushing it back
the other way, shot up off the glass. No good
new Lex has the rebound. They lead it by thirteen

(01:29:01):
and have the ball, and there's gonna be a file
in the back court and we're gonna walk to the
other end. It'll be Isaiah Stevens going back to the
free throw line. Fifty three to forty fifty five seconds
to play again. Chilli Kathee been knocking on the door

(01:29:24):
there a couple of times. They wouldn't go away all night,
and here in the last couple of minutes just gonna
get away from him a little bit. First free throw
is good, new Lux.

Speaker 2 (01:29:38):
Of all the things that they've shot the ball well,
expeing here in a second happened they were four or
twelve in the file line before. That makes one thing
they haven't done well.

Speaker 1 (01:29:47):
Second free throw good, chill Kythie'll try to go quick.
Stone King pushes it up here, ask for a ball
screen from him, and he's gonna pull up from fifteen.
No good, good rebound from badge or put back no
good and chilicothe just can't buy the bucket out comes
New Lex. We'll see at Chilli Coathee fouls or if

(01:30:09):
they decide just to let New Lex pull it out.
It looks like both teams are gonna be okay with
New Lex just pulling it out and holding Here as
the clock is at twenty five seconds and ticking. Handsome
of New Lex been outstanding tonight, we'll hold the ball
out by the scorers table and that's going to do

(01:30:32):
it here as we come up on ten seconds. Bros.
Opening night for New Lex and their home opener, Chili
coathe came in at one and oh, they're going to
drop the one in one. New Lex will start one
and oh with a fifty five forty win over Chillcathe
Shane Colmbs and Greg Bigham. We'll take a quick time
out and we'll come back and give you some postgame

Speaker 1 (01:34:05):
Welcome back here on the post game. I'm Shane Colmbs
alongside Greg Bigham, and you know Greg will get some
numbers in a second. First of all, let's get just
get a thought. I I guess my takeaway is, you
know Chilicathi, certainly. I think some of their best offensive
basketball still out in front of them as they find
their rhythm. I thought they struggled to find their rhythm
throughout the night. I thought they stayed with the competed
awfully hard for three and a half quarters. Just your

(01:34:28):
takeaway here on your first look at the Cavs here
in twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five, Well, I can't.

Speaker 2 (01:34:34):
I thought early in the second half, early in the
fourth quarter, they made a couple of runs, got it
back to within four.

Speaker 1 (01:34:39):
I think each time for it kind of fell apart.

Speaker 2 (01:34:41):
But I thought the second half they had a couple
of spells where I think rhythms a great word. They
got into some rhythm, They got into attacking the offense
and getting some rhythm and getting some good open shots
that weren't somewhat forced. And that happens early in the year.
I thought in the first half they spent a lot
of times still with that, And again you were working

(01:35:03):
the ball around they were doing when sism's not the game.
They play an open post, you're trying to penetrate wealth
to dribble, and that happened to them last year. I
think it's tough to get some good shots doing that.
They missed a couple of probably easy ones. But I
thought the second half a little bit of improvement. I
think the biggest thing, the biggest thing you're going to
look at is and it's early in the season, but

(01:35:24):
there wasn't full court pressure, and you had sixteen turnovers,
and I think that's something they're going to have to
cut down. But got enough good ball handlers, and I
think part of that you're trying to force it down inside.

Speaker 1 (01:35:35):
You're gonna have some early mistakes.

Speaker 2 (01:35:36):
And I thought the negative side that the sixteen turnovers,
and we'll do some other look at the stats again,
but all in all, I don't know how good New
Lux is, to be truthful, That's what I couldn't decide.
They came off a great year last year. They lost
a couple of kids. They certainly have two outstanding guards.
You can tell a couple of those kids are coming
off along football season, and I thought they would. I

(01:36:00):
thought it might be a little closer tonight. I think
a little bit.

Speaker 1 (01:36:02):
I don't.

Speaker 2 (01:36:03):
Again, I'm not really sure how good New Lex is
what exactly they had coming back.

Speaker 1 (01:36:07):
Well, I certainly have always been a big believer that,
you know, guard play can can win out in a
lot of different ways. And I thought Isaiah Stevens and
Bentley Hansen, as you said, coming off football season, maybe
still trying to find their rhythm as well, certainly ended
up getting getting there's by the end of the night.
But I go back to the before we get to

(01:36:28):
the numbers, I'll go back to a point you made
without the full core pressure of the sixteen turnovers. I
won't say that New Les didn't have good help defense
because I thought they did a good job of keeping
Chili Cooffee out of the paint tonight. And certainly the
game was called kind of loose on the perimeter in
terms of the hand check and some arm bars and
so forth. But don't you think that's a little bit
of the rhythm and identity where Chili Coffee sometimes just

(01:36:50):
a little bit in between on what they wanted to
do there on the drive?

Speaker 2 (01:36:54):
Yeah, I agree, I think that's part of it. And
you know Cooper's unfortunately Cooper got going, he was he
couldn't get a layup to drop, he couldn't get missed
a couple. He hit that three at the end of
the half. Game right back hit a three and a
two start a second half and then picked up his
third foul. Broke the rhythm a little bit. But yeah,
I don't and again I'm not sure when you watch practice,

(01:37:16):
what's coach peard what they want to do offensive? Then
they like to without a pivot presence, says them somewhat.
But he was in and out a lot. But without
that and you got five guys outside, they're going to
have to kind of find what works for him, and
that may take a few games.

Speaker 1 (01:37:32):
I agree. Tell you what, let's break down some numbers there.
What do you have for us well?

Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
For in the second half, good shooting for New lux
I had them twelve of twenty and the second half
or sixty percent. They wound up in the second half
of two of two from the foul line there late
in the game, so they shot sixty percent in the
second half. For the game, New lex I had them
twenty one of forty one. They shot over fifty percent,

(01:37:58):
had a lot of good layups in the second half,
working the ball around, but they shot over fifty percent
on the night. They had ten turnovers unofficially for the Cavaliers.
After struggling in that first half, they were thirty one
percent in the first half. They did come back to
hit ten of twenty five for forty percent. They had
a lot of misses late in the game. They were
shooting almost fifty percent till about four final four or

(01:38:20):
five minutes forty percent in the second half, and for
the game, fifteen of forty one or chilli count they
thirty six and a half percent. They were six out
of ten from the foul line. New lect six out
of twelve from the foul line, and to repeat that
other stet again second game of the season. But still
sixteen turnovers quite a few for the cab That took

(01:38:41):
away a lot of offensive possessions. But all in all, yeah, Shane,
I'm not sure. You look at it, and I thought,
chill coth. They played really hard on defense, they pressured
the basketball. How did new Leck shoot fifty one percent?
Because I thought, but I think sometimes especially late when
you're pressuring and trying to get to the wall and
you're up close, got beat on some back door cuts,

(01:39:04):
got beat on a couple of fast breaks, and then
they got in the open floor New's got some really
good looks when they ran off that run to go
up the double figures. But all in all, I thought
the Calves played hard to kind of got away from. Defensively,
they're late, particularly in the fourth quarter.

Speaker 1 (01:39:18):
I agree, when you're playing from behind, especially against big
guards in the final three or four minutes, sometimes your
defensive statistics get really misleading. Because I think if you
were to break down this film and you were to
look at the first three and a half minutes, where
both teams were playing pretty normal, I would say Chili
Coffee would grade out pretty well. On the defensive end.
They lost some things away from the ball, where again

(01:39:39):
they were paying close attention to some elite players. But
then obviously when you're behind and you start chasing and
extending the floor, obviously that plays right into their hand.
Just to add on to your point totals, to look
at some individual totals, we'll start on the ChIL Coffee side.
It looks like they had one, two, three, four, five, six,
seven Calves in the scoring column to equal their forty

(01:39:59):
points this evening. They were led by cam Badger with eight,
all of those coming in the first half. Cooper stone
King knocked down two triples and scored eight. Then Caden
Cox had seven, as did Andrew Hammond, and then four
a piece for Jan Miller and Daniel Sissam, and then
two for the freshman Carte Liggan. Again, that's forty for

(01:40:21):
Chilicathe Over on the winning side, Bentley Hanson had the
big first half, was really pretty consistent throughout. He finished
with a game high eighteen points. Isaiah Stevens didn't have
his best shooting night, still finds a way to score
fifteen by the Knight's in third Panther and double figure
was Corey Adam and I thought the senior guard. I

(01:40:44):
thought his twelve points can really backbreaking at time, really
really go. And then only five total Panthers score. Eli
Stevens ads eight and then Malachi Thresher with two, and
again you add all that up to the fifty five
forty win. So again we'll take a two minute time out.
We'll come back. If we can get Coach Beard, we'll

(01:41:04):
talk to him. If not, we'll cap it for the night.

Got it back maybe one time to two points a
couple of times tofore, but never could get in the

Speaker 1 (01:44:07):
Well, I think that's the story of the game. And
again New LEC's coming off a great year, great guard play,
and it proved just a little too much to overcome
there once they had fallen down by double figures a
couple of different times there in the second half. So
I think the best basketball ahead for the Cats. I
think this team has a lot of potential. I think
they're going to be fun to watch, and I think
you you really give them four or five games, especially

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
