Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, let's dive right in today we're talking all

(00:03):
things san Antonio. Oh like right now, what's happening in
the city. We've got local news, some national stories that
have a San Antonio angle, you know, all sorts of stuff.
It'll be fun.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
It's really interesting, you know to see how like a
school closing or some kind of event ties into things
that are happening nationally or even globally.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Yeah, for sure. And you know what, speaking of things
happen right now, this cold snap we're in, I mean,
headlines are calling a bitter cold. It's barely getting out
of the deans. It's serious.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Yeah, and you know it's got us all thinking about
that snow earlier this week. We hardly ever get snow here, right,
I mean a tenth of an inch, and it's a
big deal.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
It's crazy how even that little bit can disrupt everything.
And speaking of disruptions, SASD they're closed today. All those
kids walk into school waiting to bus stops. Not good
in this weather.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Yeah, safety first, right, and you know this brings up
that whole thing with saves Dy's older buildings and the
heating problems they've had in the past. This weather really
It makes you realize how tough it is to keep
those old buildings running. And it's not just safety, it's
districts all over facing this problem.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Absolutely. Okay, so enough about the cold. Let's talk about
something that's got everyone fired up. Victor Wimbanyama. This guy
is making headlines before he even plays a game. Here.
Did you see the unveiling of those basketball courts he
designed in France, his hometown.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Oh yeah, that was cool. And it's more than just
a design, right, It's like he took pieces of the
Spurs and his town, La Chesney and blended them together.
And it's all part of this play Paris thing, which
is awesome. The Spurs are using basketball to like build
connections and help kids. It's really cool.

Speaker 1 (01:38):
It shows how sports can connect people across the world.
And speaking of that, the NBA is really going global.
The Spurs and the Pacers playing games in Paris and
then you've got one Banyama essentially coming home as an
NBA player just adds a whole other level to it.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
Absolutely, Paris has such a big basketball history and now
San Antonio is right there in the center of the
global basketball world. It's amazing what one player can do
you know, they can put a whole city on the map.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Now, while everyone's watching GWe Banyama, we can't forget about
coach Popovich. He's still recovering from that stroke he had
back in November. It's amazing he's still involved with the
team even from Afar.

Speaker 2 (02:16):
It really shows how dedicated he is. The interim coach,
Mitch Johnson talks about how much pop is still involved,
you know, talking strategy and working with players. Even though
he's not there physically, you can feel his presence.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
It's amazing. Yeah. Okay, so we've talked weather, we've talked
gem Banyama. But what about some fun stuff happening in
San Antonio right now? For anyone who likes those big,
loud trucks, there's actually a Monster Jam truck on display
at the Northern Tool on four to ten. You can
go see it up close, take pictures, even talk to
one of the true members. Pretty cool, you know what.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
I'm not even that into monster trucks, but seeing one
of those things up close, it's pretty impressive. They're like
these big, powerful, uh works of art almost It's fun
to see.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
Absolutely, And speaking of fun, something else is back in town.
Girl Scout Cookie season. You know it's serious when those
boxes start appearing everywhere. You can find them starting today
all the way through March second, at booths, Agb's, walmarts, everywhere.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
It's a yearly ritual, isn't it. And this year is
a little special. It's the last year for the Esmore's cookies.
They're retiring them after this season. So if you love those,
get them while you can't.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
That's a good point. And don't forget when you buy
those cookies, you're not just getting a treat, You're supporting
the Girl Scouts. Five bucks a box goes a long
way to help them do all those cool things they do,
from community projects to summer camps, really important stuff.

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah. Definitely supporting a good cause and getting some delicious cookies.
Win win. So you know, let's zoom out a little
look at some things happening, well, not just in San Antonio,
you know, national stuff, even global things, but with a
San Antonio twist.

Speaker 1 (03:50):
Okay, I like where this is going? What have you got?

Speaker 2 (03:54):
All? Right? So Bridgerton, have you seen the show? It's
like a romance, you know, set way back in the day,
like all fancy and stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Oh yeah, Bridgerton. I mean it's kind of hard to miss, right,
the costumes, all the drama. Yeah, it's everywhere these days.
What's the San Antonio connection though.

Speaker 2 (04:11):
Well, for starters, they're doing a Bridgerton thing for Valentine's Day.
It'll have the couple, the main couple from season four.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
Oh Valentine's Day. That makes sense, I guess for that show. Right.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
But here's what's cool. They're doing these candlelight concerts. And
it's not just a few places. They're doing them in
over two hundred cities all over the world, including San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (04:32):
Wow, so they're really going all out. Huh, candlelight concerts.
That's pretty creative. I wonder do you think this is
like the future of entertainment, like making it a whole experience,
not just watching something. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (04:43):
Maybe I think people are looking for more than just
you know, sitting on the couch and watching. They want
to feel like they're part of it, you know, I.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
See what you mean. And when you do something like
this in a city like San Antonio with all the
history and you know, the river walk and everything, it
probably works really well.

Speaker 2 (04:59):
Yeah, and you have to think about the impact on
the city too. All those people coming for the events,
staying in hotels, eating at restaurants. It's a big boost
for San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
Sure, for sure. Okay, so from fancy period dramas to
something well a bit more modern. Remember that diet coke button,
the one they used to have in the Oval office, so.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
When the president could press and get a diet coke
whenever he wanted. Yeah, I remember that.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
Well it's back. But it got me thinking if I
had a button like that, it wouldn't be for a
diet coke. It would be for chips and queso.

Speaker 2 (05:32):
Huh. Now that's a button I could get behind. Seriously,
it just screams san Antonio, doesn't it.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
It does, right, Yeah, I mean you can't get more
san Antonio than chips and queso. But it's also about,
you know, those little things that make a place unique,
the things that make it feel like home.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
Yeah. Absolutely, it's more than just food too. It's Fiesta,
It's the river walk, the spurs, all those things together
that's what makes San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
Special for sure. So speaking of special things, big news
in the sports world, row CC Savathia and Billy Wagner,
they all just got into the Baseball Hall.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
Of fame, huge news, and even though they didn't play here,
you know, in San Antonio. Baseball has that power to
connect people. You know, no matter where you are.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
It does whether you're in New York or Seattle or
right here. It's those stories, you know. And maybe someday
we'll have our own Hall of Famers from San Antonio.
Maybe one, but Yama, who knows.

Speaker 2 (06:23):
Speaking of future hall of Famers, that new Mowana movie,
the sequel, it just hit a billion dollars at the
box office.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
That's incredible. Disney's really doing something right. But what's interesting
to me is that Mowana, even though it's not set here,
you know, in Texas, it has some themes that kind
of remind me of San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Yeah, I see what you mean. Family, tradition, finding your
place in the world. Those are big things in San
Antonio too, Right, This city was built by families, people
coming here for a better life for generations.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Yeah, that's a good point. Even with these huge movies,
it's those stories that connect with everyone that really.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Stick with you absolutely. And speaking of things that connect
with people, in the music world, the iHeartRadio Music Awards
are coming up, and Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen. They're
the top nominees this year.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
Oh wow, ten nominations each. Those award shows. You know,
some people think they're not a big deal, but they
kind of show you what people are listening to, what's
popular right now.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
Yeah, and in a world where everyone's listening to music
on their phones, these shows are a way for artists
to like connect with their fans in a different.

Speaker 1 (07:24):
Way, right right. It's interesting to see how technology changes things,
even in music. And speaking of things changing, remember the
Razzie Awards, the ones that make fun of bad movies.

Speaker 2 (07:35):
Oh yeah, how could I forget so bad? They're good?

Speaker 1 (07:37):
Right? Well, it looks like Borderlands, the Joker sequel, Madam Webb, Megalopolis,
and the Reagan Movie. They are the top nominees this year,
six nominations each. Ouch.

Speaker 2 (07:47):
It always makes you think, you know, what makes a
movie bad? Is it just someone's opinion or is there
like a real way to measure it exactly?

Speaker 1 (07:56):
And sometimes movies that everyone hates when they come out
end up becoming cult classics later on.

Speaker 2 (08:01):
You know, yeah, that's true. Tastes change, and even in
bad movies, you can sometimes find something good, something interesting.
It kind of reminds me of how San Antonio has changed.
You know, it used to be this quiet town and
now it's a big city, but it still has its
own unique vibe.

Speaker 1 (08:17):
That's a great point. Speaking of change, there's some big
news and mental health. There's a new nasal spray for
depression that just got approved by the FDA.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Yeah, it's called Spravado. It's for people who haven't had
success with other antidepressants. It's a big deal. You know,
it could really help people who are struggling.

Speaker 1 (08:34):
It's amazing how science keeps finding new ways to help people,
even with really tough problems. And speaking of tough problems,
it looks like Netflix is raising prices again.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
Not again, How much are they going up this time?

Speaker 1 (08:46):
So the plan without ads is going to be almost
eighteen bucks a month, and the one with all the
bells and whistles is going up to twenty five.

Speaker 2 (08:53):
Wow, that's a pretty big jump. I wonder how people
are going to react to that.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. Netflix says they need
the money to make more shows movies, but you know
it's a tough balance. If they raise prices too much,
people would just cancel.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
Yeah, they've got to be careful. It's a tough market
out there, and there's a lot of competition from other
streaming services. It's a constant battle to you know, keep
people happy and keep the business going.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Yeah, it's crazy how fast things are changing. But okay,
let's bring it back to San Antonio. We've talked about
a lot today. I mean, from the crazy cold weather
to when Banyama national news and you know, all those
little things that make San Antonio what it is.

Speaker 2 (09:30):
You know, it's funny when you think about it, all
these things like school closings and that diet coke button
and all the excitement about WM Banyama, they all kind
of come together to paint this picture of what San
Antonio is like right now at this moment. It's like
like we're watching the city change and grow right in

(09:50):
front of us.

Speaker 1 (09:51):
That's a great way to put it. It's easy to forget,
you know, everything happening in the world, that what's happening
right here in our own city is important too. It's
those everyday things, the things that make a city unique.
That's what makes it special.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
And San Antonio is definitely special. So as you go
about your week, think about what's catching your attention here.
Are you going to be following the one Banyama story?
Or maybe you'll buy some Girl Scout cookies, Or maybe
you'll grab some Chicks and Queso and think about the
latest Bridgerton episode.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Who knows so many options? And you know, maybe you'll
even find your own little piece of San Antonio to
share with everyone. Thanks for joining us on this deep
dive into our city. We'll see you next time.
