Speaker 1 (00:00):
All right, San Antonio, you ready for this always, let's

(00:02):
dive in. It's a wild one out there today, icy roads,
oak wilt ev and get this, NBA stars going global.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
Oh yeah, we've got a lot to cover today, I do.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
We've got weather forecasts, traffic, local news, you name it
all to bring you up to speed on what's happening
in San Antonio right now.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
What I think is really interesting here is that even
with this crazy winter weather right San Antonio doesn't really stop.

Speaker 1 (00:32):
It just kind of adapts totally. So let's start with
that winter storm that just blew through.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (00:37):
I know a lot of you are probably waking up
to a winter weather advisory.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
And you know, it's not unusual to see some ice
in San Antonio this time of year. Yeah, but this storm,
this one brought some pretty unique challenges. Several counties even
had winter storm warnings issued. Oh wow, we're talking Atascosa,
besar Co, mal quite.

Speaker 1 (00:57):
A few actually, and we've got that hard freeze expected over.
Can you imagine I'm already picturing all those videos of
you know, Texans trying to walk on ice. Right.

Speaker 2 (01:06):
Hopefully everyone is staying safe and warm inside, though for sure,
definitely not a day to be, you know, taking any
chances on those roads. Absolutely, speaking of things being closed,
it seems like a lot of San Antonio is hitting
the pause button today. Schools, universities, lots of businesses.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Even HGB has adjusted hours. Yeah, which, let's be honest,
is basically the ultimate snow day indicator in San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (01:31):
Totally. It really is the zoo, SeaWorld, six flags. They're
all closed up today. It's like the whole city decided
to just like take a collective breathe.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
I love that, a collective breath. You know. I know
a lot of parents out there are probably wondering how
they're going to entertain energetic kids and maybe a few
stir crazy puppies all day long.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Oh for sure, it's definitely a challenge. But hey, maybe
it's a good chance to break out those board games, right,
build a pillow for it, or just enjoy some you know,
some quality family time.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yeah, that's a good point. And for those of you
who don't have kids running around, maybe you're enjoying the
peace and quiet.

Speaker 2 (02:05):
Yeah, catching up on a good book, finally tackling that
project you've been putting off, or maybe just maybe you're
dreaming of warmer weather and Paris.

Speaker 1 (02:15):
Oh, Paris. Okay, now this is where things get interesting.
The Spurs are heading to Paris for two games. Can
you believe it?

Speaker 2 (02:23):
It's pretty exciting, and of course all eyes are going
to be on our very own Victor Wembuanyama, I know
what a moment for San Antonio it really is to
have our rooky sensation showcase on the international stage like that.

Speaker 1 (02:36):
Wim Banyamdi is real, folks, rookie of the year, likely
All Star this season. Absolutely, he's already a hometown hero.

Speaker 2 (02:43):
And it's not just about basketball either. This trip is
a cultural exchange, a chance to showcase San Antonio's unique
spirit to the world.

Speaker 1 (02:52):
Okay, now back on the home front, let's talk about
something that's important for all of us San Antonio nature
lovers out there. Oak wilt. Yes, it's a serious threat
to our amazing oak trees, especially this time of year.

Speaker 2 (03:04):
Absolutely, if you haven't already, you'll want to familiarize yourself
with the signs of oak wilt, browning leaves on the
outer branches, those are a key indicator. And remember avoid
pruning between February and June. Oh that's right, that's peak
season for the beetles that spread this disease.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
Got it? So no DIY tree surgery, no matter how tempting.

Speaker 2 (03:22):
Exactly if you must prune seal any cuts immediately, and
if you have any concerns at all, call a certified arborist.
Better safe than sorry when it comes to our beloved oaks.

Speaker 1 (03:33):
Couldn't agree more. Speaking of things we love in San Antonio,
how about some pop culture buzz. Get this. San Antonio
is hosting its very first Big Texas Terra con. Oh wow,
and they just announced their first star guest, Juliet Lewis.
Now this is exciting. I know.

Speaker 2 (03:52):
Lewis is a horror icon, from natural born killers to Yellowjackets.
She's brought some truly unforgettable characters to like.

Speaker 1 (03:59):
Oh for sure.

Speaker 2 (04:00):
I'm sure it's going to be a huge limp with
horror fans here in San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
I think so too. It's happening June fourteenth and fifteenth
at the Henry be Gonzalez Convention Center, So mark your
calendars everyone. I have a feeling tickets are going to
go fast for that one.

Speaker 2 (04:13):
Oh yeah, definitely. Now let's shift gears a bit from
the high energy world of horror conventions to a coffee
shop that actually encourages you to disconnect.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
Okay, this sounds intriguing. Tell me more about this digital
detox coffee shop. What's the story here.

Speaker 2 (04:31):
Well, it's called no Fi no Fi and yes, you
heard that right, no Wi Fi.

Speaker 1 (04:35):
Wait, no Wi Fi in a coffee shop. That's like
unheard of. What's the thinking behind that?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
It's all about encouraging genuine human connection. They have this
no Wi Fi, no to go policy. They're promoting these
slow bar experiences. You linger, you chat, you really savor
your coffee. It's a fascinating concept, isn't it. It is
kind of a rebellion against our hyper connected totally.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
I can see it now, long philosophical conversations over steaming
cups of coffee, no scrolling, no distractions. I don't know
about you, but I'm kind of curious to see how
I would handle the coffee shop with no Wi Fi.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Me too, Me too.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Maybe it's just what we all needed to actually be
present in the moment.

Speaker 2 (05:14):
Yeah, maybe maybe we'll all discover a newfound appreciation for
those simple pleasures like conversation and connection.

Speaker 1 (05:23):
Yeah, you know. On that note, let's talk about something
a little more well connected. Did you know that Texas
ranks as the ninth the best state for driving?

Speaker 2 (05:34):
Wow?

Speaker 1 (05:35):
I was surprised by that.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Yeah, I was too, actually, But then when you consider
the factors they looked at road quality, traffic, congestion, gas prices,
it kind of starts to make sense. Yeah, Texas has
that extensive highway system and relatively low fuel costs. Sure
that definitely helps.

Speaker 1 (05:51):
Of course, we can't ignore the traffic challenges in our
bigger cities like Houston and Dallas.

Speaker 2 (05:56):
Oh, yeah, for sure.

Speaker 1 (05:58):
But hey, at least we're not at the bottom of
the list, That's right.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
And it's a good reminder that even with our our
sprawling urban areas, Texas still offers those wide open spaces
and scenic drives yees, that so many people love.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
All right, and to wrap up this whirlwind tour of
San Antonio today, let's do a quick fire around to
some other interesting news and information.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
All right, bring it on, I'm ready, Okay, First.

Speaker 1 (06:19):
Up, get ready for a blast from the past. A
Goony's sequel is in the works, potentially with the original cast. Wow.
Can you imagine? Talk about a nostalgia trip?

Speaker 2 (06:30):
I know, I can already hear that Goonies are a
good enough theme song playing in my head.

Speaker 1 (06:34):
I love it. It'll be interesting to see if they
can capture the magic of the original right for sure. Now,
for those of you battling sniffles and coughs at home,
here are a few home remedies to try. Saline drops
for stuffy noses, fruit cocktail syrup for nausea.

Speaker 2 (06:50):
Fruit cocktail syrup.

Speaker 1 (06:51):
Yeah, apparently that's an old school remedy making a comeback.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Huh, I've heard about that. Supposedly, it like coats the snomach,
eases those queasy feelings.

Speaker 1 (07:01):
Yeah. And then, of course there's honey for sore throats
for kids over one year old, ginger tea for upset tummies,
eucalyptus baths for congestion, and most importantly, plenty of rest
and fluids.

Speaker 2 (07:13):
Those are all great tips. Sometimes those simple remedies are
the most effective.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
Totally agree. Now for a quick update from the world
of social media, Instagram is adding a new reels feed
that shows you what your friends have liked. They're hoping
to boost interaction and make the platform more well social.

Speaker 2 (07:30):
Hm. It makes you wonder, though, will it actually lead
to more genuine connection or just add to the pressure of,
you know, keeping up with everyone online.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Good question. We'll have to wait and see how it
plays out. Meanwhile, TikTokers can breathe a sigh of relief.
The TikTok band has been delayed for seventy five days
to allow for negotiations.

Speaker 2 (07:53):
Well, that'll make a lot of people happy, it will.

Speaker 1 (07:55):
And finally, a little lighthearted anecdote to leave you with
a smile. Remember at Donald Trump's inauguration when Barack Obama
playfully remarked that George W. Bush just barely behaved.

Speaker 2 (08:07):
Oh classic Obama, always with the witty comments.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Well, on that note, we're gonna take a quick break.
Don't go anywhere. When we come back, we'll dive a
little deeper into some of these topics and explore what
they all mean for San Antonio today. Stay tuned, see
us soon.

Speaker 2 (08:20):
It's interesting, isn't it, This kind of juxtaposition we're seeing
in San Antonio today. Well, on the one hand, we
have this unexpected pause brought on by the winter storm. Right,
schools are closed, businesses are working on limited hours, people
are hunkering down at home.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
It's true, it really does feel like this rare moment
of stillness for a city that's constantly on the move.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Right, But at the same time, yeah, you have this
vibrant energy kind of bubbling beneath the surface, the Spurs
getting ready for their international debut in Paris, the excitement
building for that big Texas terra con. Yes, we're even
seeing those new trends emerge, like that slow bar experience

(09:05):
at No FI.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
I think that's what makes San Antonio so special. You know,
it embraces both tradition and innovation. It's this place where
you can find a quiet corner to just reflect, right,
and then you know, a bustling scene to celebrate totally.

Speaker 2 (09:19):
And speaking of celebration, let's circle back to the Spurs
for a minute. Victor Wee Banyama's rise to stardom. I mean,
it's a story that's captivated not just San Antonio, but
the entire basketball world.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
It's true, it's hard to believe he's just a rookie.
I know, he's already making such a huge impact on
the team absolutely and the city as a whole.

Speaker 2 (09:39):
What I find really remarkable is, you know, his humility
and composure amidst all that hype. Yeah, he seems genuinely
focused on the game totally and on representing San Antonio
with pride.

Speaker 1 (09:52):
And that resonates with San Antonio fans, it does. We
appreciate that hard work, that dedication, yeah, a love for
the game.

Speaker 2 (09:59):
It's almost as if when Banyama just embodies the spirit
of San Antonio, you know, that mix of talent and
determination and genuine warmth.

Speaker 1 (10:10):
Okay, so let's shift gears a little bit and talk
about a trend that's capturing attention, not just in San Antonio,
across the country. Really, the goony sequel, The Goonies. It's
amazing how a movie from the eighties can still hold
such a powerful grip on our kind of collective imagination.

Speaker 2 (10:31):
It's a testament to those, you know, enduring themes friendship, adventure,
the power of believing in the impossible right, themes that
resonate just as strongly today as they did back then.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
I think for a lot of people, the Goonies represents,
you know, a time of care free childhood adventures, you know,
exploring hidden worlds and facing fears with your best friends
by your side, and.

Speaker 2 (10:55):
In a world that you know often feels increasingly complex
and uncertain. That that nostalgia for for simpler times, for
pure escapism. It's it's incredibly appealing.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
It makes you wonder if the sequel can really capture
that same magic. I know, will it live up to
the expectations of a generation that grew up with the original.

Speaker 2 (11:16):
It's a tall order, that's for sure, but I have
to admit I'm curious to see what they come up with,
and who knows, maybe it'll inspire a whole new generation
of Gooni's totally okay.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Speaking of inspiration, I think it's time we talk about
no fi, yes, and this idea of disconnecting from the
digital world.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (11:33):
Yeah, it's definitely like a countercultural concept. It is, especially
in a city that's, you know, rapidly embracing all these
technological advancements right right.

Speaker 2 (11:43):
What I find fascinating about Nophi is that it's not
just about the absence of Wi fi, you know, It's
about creating an environment that encourages intentional connection, mindful conversation,
a slower pace of life.

Speaker 1 (11:58):
It's like a mini retreat in the heart of the city.
It is a place where you can just unplug, recharge,
and actually, you know, engage with the people around.

Speaker 2 (12:05):
You, and in a world that's you know, constantly bombarding
us with information and distractions. Totally, that's that's a pretty
radical idea.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
It is. It makes you wonder, are we so tethered
to our devices that we've just forgotten how to you know,
simply be present in the moment.

Speaker 2 (12:22):
It's a great question, and maybe no Fi is offering
us this, you know, gentle reminder that there's value in
slowing down, in savoring those those simple pleasures. Yeah, A
face to face conversation, a shared laugh, a moment of
genuine connection.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Absolutely. Okay, before we wrap up this segment, I want
to touch on a couple of news items that highlight
the intersection of you know, technology in everyday life. First up,
Instagram's new reels feed. Yes, this shows you what your
friends have liked, right. It's interesting this new feature. It

(13:00):
raises some questions about the you know, the evolving nature
of social media. Oh for is it is it a
genuine attempt to foster connection or just another way to
you know, keep us glued to our screens. As to
the question, isn't it that's a bit of a you know,
double edged sword, isn't it. Yeah, On the one hand,
it could it could help us discover new content and
steam more connected with our friends interests. But on the

(13:21):
other hand, it could also fuel you know, comparison, competition,
a constant need for validation.

Speaker 2 (13:28):
It'll be interesting to see how, you know, how users
respond and how this feature shapes the overall Instagram experience.
Will it enhance you know, genuine interaction or simply amplify
the noise.

Speaker 1 (13:42):
And on the topic of social media, you know, we
can't ignore the ongoing debate surrounding TikTok. The recent delay
of the ban has given TikTokers a temporary reprieve, it has,
but the larger questions you know, about data privacy, national security,
the role of government regularly in the tech industry, they remain.

Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, it's a complex issue with no easy answers, and
it highlights the need for you know, for thoughtful dialogue
and careful consideration as we as we navigate these you know,
increasingly blurred lines between technology and personal freedom and national interests.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
All right, Well, as we wrap up this segment of
our deep dive, yeah, I want to leave our listeners
with a thought to ponder. Okay, we've talked about the
winter storm bringing a pause to San Antonio, about the
spurs representing our city on the world stage, and about
you know, new trends like no Fi challenging us to
disconnect and reconnect and meaningful ways.

Speaker 2 (14:39):
What's striking is how, you know, all of these seemingly
disparate threads are kind of interwoven into the tapestry of
San Antonio today. It's true, this city that's constantly evolving, adapting,
redefining itself while still holding onto its unique charm and traditions.

Speaker 1 (14:57):
With city that embraces change, it does, brates its heritage, yes,
and continues to surprise us with its resilience and vibrant spirit.

Speaker 2 (15:06):
And that, I believe is what makes San Antonio such
a such a fascinating and inspiring place to be.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
We'll be write back with our final thoughts on what
it means to be a part of San Antonio today.
Welcome back to the deep dive.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
You know, it's been amazing unpacking all these different aspects
of San Antonio today, and it's really striking, you know,
just how much the city embodies this blend of old
and new, tradition and innovation. It really is. It's like
this city is constantly in conversation with itself, you know,
finding ways to honor its past but also embrace the

(15:41):
possibilities of the future.

Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, and we see it everywhere, right in the architecture
of the food, the way people interact with each other. Oh. Absolutely,
It's a city that's both like familiar and surprising, a
place where you can feel grounded in history, but you
also sense that something new is always just around the corner.

Speaker 2 (15:58):
It's exciting, and that's sense of possibility, that openness to
new experiences and ideas. That's what makes San Antonio so vibrant,
so dynamic.

Speaker 1 (16:09):
Totally. We were talking about the Spurs playing in Paris,
and that's a perfect example. It's this moment of pride,
you know for San Antonio, seeing our team, our city
represented on the world stage. But it's also this incredible
opportunity to learn, right, connect with different cultures and to
expand our own horizons.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
And that same spirit of exploration you see it reflected
in those those places like No Fi. Totally, this whole
idea of intentionally disconnecting from the digital world, slowing down
and savoring those those simple pleasures of conversation and connection.
I mean, it's a trend that's gaining traction, not just
here but all over.

Speaker 1 (16:45):
It makes you wonder, you know, have we reached this
tipping point?

Speaker 2 (16:50):
Maybe?

Speaker 1 (16:51):
Yeah, have we become so overloaded with information, so tethered
to our devices that we're like craving a return into
something more, more authentic, more human.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
It's possible. Maybe these these slow bar experiences are a
sign that we're starting to recognize the value, you know,
of just being present in the moment, right, engaging with
the world around us in a in a more mindful way.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
I love that, and maybe that's a lesson we can
all take to heart, right, whether we're sipping coffee in
a Wi Fi free zone or just taking a moment
to appreciate the beauty of a winter day, even with
those icy challenges.

Speaker 2 (17:27):
It's a good reminder for sure. Sometimes the most the
most meaningful experiences are found in those those simplest moments. Yeah,
those connections we make with each other and with the
world around us.

Speaker 1 (17:37):
So, as we wrap up this deep dive into San
Antonio today, I'm going to leave you with this final thought.
Embrace the blend under the traditions that make this city
so unique, but don't be afraid to explore the new,
the unexpected, Engage in conversations that challenge your perspective, connect
with people from all walks of life, and just savor
those moments that make San Antonio such a special place.

Speaker 2 (18:00):
To call home, because in the end, it's those connections,
those shared experiences, that truly define the heart and soul
of this city.

Speaker 1 (18:06):
Thanks for joining us on this journey of discovery. We'll
catch you next time for another deep dive into the
world around us.
