Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, San Antonio, ready for another deep dive into what's

(00:03):
happening in our city today. I've got a whole stack
of news here, some events, some announcements, oh yeah, even
a little weather to spice things up.

Speaker 2 (00:11):
Yeah. Keeping up with what's going on locally, I mean
that's the key to you know, really being a part
of the city.

Speaker 1 (00:16):
Absolutely.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
It's amazing what you learn about just by you know,
keeping your ear to the ground.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Yeah, for sure. So let's start with the weekend weather.
I'm seeing a bit of a temperature swing here. Highs
in the fifties and sixties during the day, but then
dropping down to the twenties at night.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
Oh okay, some bundle up, San Antonio. Right, yeah, And
and there's a chance of showers on Sunday with a
cold front moving through.

Speaker 1 (00:41):
And you know what that that actually might play into
something we're going to talk about a little later. Oh really,
the crawfish situation.

Speaker 2 (00:47):
Ooh okay, I'm intrigued. Now you've got to tell me
more about that. But first, we've got some exciting news
for all the Spurs fans out there. Rookie Stefan Castle,
oh yeah, is going to be competing in the NBA
Dunk Contest. Wow, that's that's amazing. He's the first Spur
to be in the contest since nineteen eighty eight. I know, right,
I wonder if we're seeing like a resurgence of you know,

(01:10):
that high flying Spurs style.

Speaker 1 (01:12):
Maybe. So yeah, And I think he's got a good
shot at winning. He's been averaging twenty five dunks this season,
which is the most of any point guard in the
entire league. Wow. So very impressive. Now, speaking of exciting
things happening in San Antono, how about this. The San
Antonio Zoo is having a Pokemon Go Community Day on
January twenty fifth, from two to five pm.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
I actually play Pokemon Go.

Speaker 1 (01:34):
Oh you do, Okay, well then you definitely can't miss this.
They've got eighteen poke stops lures to attract tons of
wild Pokemon. And get this, the first two hundred players
who catch ten raults after two pm are going to
get exclusive Zoo collectible cards.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
That's that's awesome. You know. I love that the Zoo
is doing things like that to kind of, you know,
bring in new people and get them excited about you know,
wildlife and conservation.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
Definitely. So you mentioned the crop situation, earlier, and I
know that's on a lot of people's minds here in
San Antonio, but I'm hearing that winter Storm Enzo could
be causing a bit of a crawfish shortage.

Speaker 2 (02:09):
Yeah, that's right, the colder temperatures. You know, craw they
don't do so well in the cold, so it's definitely
going to have some impact.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
So no more crawfish boils.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
Well, hold on. I was talking to some local restaurant
owners and they're saying that it shouldn't be too bad,
maybe just a delay of a couple weeks, okay, And
apparently it's been a really good season so far, so
there's a good supply already out there.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
Okay, Well that's a relief. I was getting worried there
for a second. But let's switch gears a little bit
now and talk about something a little different. Did you
know that there's a San Antonio director, C. J. Goodwin
who has a new thriller coming out. It's called Sherlock
Holmes Mayor of the Night.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
Oh yeah, Goodwin, I've heard of him. He's got a
really unique style, like visually, yeah, and I've heard this
new one is like a psychological thriller looking at the
Darker side of Lock Holmes.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
Oh wow.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
You know, like Later in his Life sounds really interesting?

Speaker 1 (03:03):
It does, and it's playing right here in San Antonio
at City Based Theater starting January twenty fourth.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Cool.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
So if you want to support local film, yeah, definitely
check that out.

Speaker 2 (03:14):
I love seeing our local film scene doing so well.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Me too. And speaking of things doing well, the retail
scene in San Antonio has also seen some growth. Marshalls
in Burlington are expanding their presence here.

Speaker 2 (03:26):
Oh wow.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
Burlington is moving into some of the spaces left by
CON's Home plus and bed bath and beyond.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
Oh interesting.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
And Marshall's is building a brand new store at the Rim.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Hmmm. You know it's interesting because so much retail has
gone online these days. Yeah, but it seems like these
these brick and mortar stores are still holding their own right.
Maybe people still like that in person experience.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
I think so. And I think these brands have also
just been really good at adapting to help people shop.

Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Speaking of exciting destinations, have you heard about this? North
Padre Island has been named the top spring break destination
in Texas.

Speaker 2 (04:02):
Oh wow, I can see why. It's got that like
laid back shell vibe, you know, compared to South Padre,
which is much more commercialized.

Speaker 1 (04:09):
Right, it's a totally different experience and there's so much
to do there. You've got the Padre Island National Seashore, camping,
horseback riding, fishing. Wow, it's a great option if you
want to have a more outdoorsy spring break.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
Sounds amazing.

Speaker 1 (04:21):
All right. So before we move on to our next segment,
I just want to run through a few other news
items that you should know about, just some quick hits
to keep you extra informed.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Okay, let's hear them.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
Well. A new study has linked ADHD to a reduced
life expectancy.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Oh wow, that's that's a serious issue.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
Yeah it is.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
You know. It really highlights the importance of early diagnosis
and proper treatment for ADHD. We need to make sure
that people have the support they need to live long
and healthy lives.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Absolutely. Now, on a completely different note, be on the
lookout for scams involving unsolicited packages that have QR codes
on them. Oh really, yeah, what's the scam?

Speaker 2 (05:00):
Well, these QR codes could lead to malicious websites or
phishing attempts, so definitely don't scan them.

Speaker 1 (05:06):
Okay, good to know, yeah, just report them instead. And
if you're flying on Spirit Airlines anytime soon, just a
heads up. They've got a new dress code that's cracking
down on offensive clothing and tattoos.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
Hmm.

Speaker 1 (05:18):
Interesting, So just something to keep in mind when you're packing.
Now for some good news, Kendrick Lamar has been announced
as the Super Bowl halftime show performer. Oh wow, and
he'll be joined by sca cool. So that's going to
be an amazing show, I think. And in case you
have looked up lately, we've got six planets that are
currently aligned in the night sky.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Oh wow. You know I haven't been stargazing in a.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
While, Well, now's the time. Yeah, it's quite a sight.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
It really makes you appreciate the vastness of space.

Speaker 1 (05:46):
You know, absolutely. And speaking of things that put on
your calendar, just a quick reminder that the real ID
deadline is May seven, twenty twenty five. You'll need that
to board domestic flights and enter certain federal facilities. So
if you don't have one yet, make sure you start
the process of getting one.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
Good reminder.

Speaker 1 (06:01):
And last but not least, for all you movie buffs
out there, a sequel to the nineteen eighty six cult
classic Labyrinth is in development.

Speaker 2 (06:09):
Labyrinth really yeah wow.

Speaker 1 (06:11):
And Robert Eggers, the director behind films like The Witch
and the Lighthouse, is going to be directing it.

Speaker 2 (06:17):
Oh wow, Eggers. That's that's really interesting. I wonder what
his take on Labyrinth is going to be.

Speaker 1 (06:22):
I know, me too.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
Very cool.

Speaker 1 (06:24):
Yeah. So there you have it, folks, a whole bunch
of news and information to keep you in the loop
on what's happening in San Antonio.

Speaker 2 (06:32):
Wow, that's a lot to take in.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
It is. There's always something going on in this.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
City, always something new to discover.

Speaker 1 (06:37):
Exactly, and that's what makes it so exciting to live here.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
I agree.

Speaker 1 (06:41):
So stay tuned because in our next segment, we're going
to dive even deeper into some of these topics and
explore what they mean for San Antonio and its residents.
Caun't wait, all right, we'll be right back after a
quick break.

Speaker 2 (06:52):
It's really interesting, how you know, all these different stories
we've been talking about, they kind of paint a picture
of what life is like in San.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
Antonio right now. Yeah, I see what you mean. Yeah,
Like you've got the cold front affecting the crawfish and
then Stefan Castle representing the Spurs and even the fact
that North Padre Island is becoming this popular spring break spot.
It's all connected to who we are as a city exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:15):
And it shows how interconnected everything is, you know, even
though San Antonio is such a big and diverse city.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
Yeah, this connections aren't always obvious, you know.

Speaker 2 (07:22):
Like take that study about ADHD and reduced life expectancy.
That might seem like a national issue, right, but it
has very real implications for people right here in San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (07:32):
It does, and it makes you think about what kind
of support systems we have in place for people with ADHD.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
Well. We do have some great organizations doing good work,
like the San Antonio ADHD Resource Group.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Oh yeah, I've heard of them.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Yeah. They offer support groups, educational workshops, and even advocacy
for people with ADHD and their families. That's great, but
you know, there's always a need for more awareness and understanding.

Speaker 1 (07:57):
Absolutely, yeah, And it just shows how important it is
take care of each other and make sure everyone in
our community has the chance to thrive.

Speaker 2 (08:04):
I agree. Now, going back to that Pokemon Go Community
Day at the Zoo, I think it's a great example
of how local institutions can think outside the box and
connect with new audiences.

Speaker 1 (08:15):
Yeah, you know, I'll admit I was a bit skeptical
about Pokemon Go when it first came out. Really yeah,
but I've actually come to appreciate how it encourages people
to get outdoors and explore their surroundings.

Speaker 2 (08:26):
Right, and when you combine that with the Zoo's mission
of conservation and education, it's.

Speaker 1 (08:31):
Really a win win, Definitely. It's a great example of
how something fun and trendy can actually have a positive impact.

Speaker 2 (08:38):
And speaking of looking up and exploring, let's talk about
those six planets that are aligned in the night sky.
I don't know about you, but seeing something like that
always makes me feel so small, yeah, but also connected
to something much bigger than myself.

Speaker 1 (08:51):
I know what you mean. It's definitely a humbling experience.
It kind of puts things in perspective for sure.

Speaker 2 (08:56):
Now, of course, we've been talking about all these exciting
things happening in San Antonio, but it's also important to
be aware of the potential pitfalls, like those scam packages
with QR codes. We need to stay informed and protect ourselves.

Speaker 1 (09:08):
Absolutely, It's amazing how scammers are always finding new ways
to trick people.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
It's true, and with technology constantly evolving, we have to
be more vigilant than ever.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
Yeah, for sure. And you mentioned earlier about Spirit airlines
new dress code. Yeah, what are your thoughts on that?

Speaker 2 (09:23):
Well, it's definitely a complex issue, right, I mean, on
the one hand, airlines have a responsibility to create a
safe and comfortable environment for all their passengers.

Speaker 1 (09:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:31):
But on the other hand, they also need to be
mindful of individual rights and avoid unnecessary censorship.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
It's a tough balance, Yeah, it is, and it raises
questions about who gets to decide what's considered offensive and
how those decisions might unfairly target certain groups exactly.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
Those are important conversations to be having. You know, we
need to think carefully about how we create rules and
policies that affect public spaces without stifling individuality and freedom
of expression.

Speaker 1 (09:57):
Well said. Okay, so let's move on to something a
bit more like hearted. How about that Super Bowl halftime
show Kendrick Lamar and SCA. What a duo I.

Speaker 2 (10:07):
Know, right. Lamar is known for his amazing stage presence
and his lyrics are always so thought provoking.

Speaker 1 (10:13):
Yeah, I'm really curious to see how he'll use this
platform to address important issues and connects with such a
huge global audience.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Me too. I think it's going to be a performance
that sparks a lot of conversations.

Speaker 1 (10:25):
Definitely. Now let's talk about the art scene here in
San Antonio. CJ. Goodwin's new film is a great example
of how local artists are pushing boundaries and telling compelling stories.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
I agree. It's really exciting to see a San Antonio
director tackling such an iconic character like Sherlock Holmes.

Speaker 1 (10:43):
Yeah, and it shows that we have world class talent
right here in our city.

Speaker 2 (10:46):
Absolutely. So how do you think we can get the
better job of supporting our local artists?

Speaker 1 (10:51):
Hmm, that's a good question. Well, I think it starts
with simply showing up, you know, yeah, attending their shows,
buying their art, spreading the word about their work.

Speaker 2 (11:01):
Right, and we can also advocate for more funding for
arts organizations and programs.

Speaker 1 (11:06):
Definitely, even small access support can make a big difference.

Speaker 2 (11:09):
I love that it's a reminder that we all have
a role to play in nurturing the creative spirit of
San Antonio.

Speaker 1 (11:14):
Absolutely. Okay, So let's talk about something that might not
be as glamorous, but is definitely important. Yeah, the real
ID deadline, Oh yeah, it might seem far off, but
May seven, twenty twenty five is going to be here
before we know it, right, And remember, you're going to
need a real ID to board domestic flights and enter
certain federal facilities.

Speaker 2 (11:33):
So if you don't have one yet, now's the time
to start the process.

Speaker 1 (11:36):
Yeah, exactly. And while we're on the topic of being prepared,
let's revisit those scam packages with QR codes.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Oh yeah, good point. It's so important to be vigilant
about online safety these days.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
It really is. It's scary how easy it is to
fall victim to these scams, especially when they look so harmless.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
I know. So it's crucial to be aware of the
red flags like unsolicited packages, unfamiliar centers, or QR codes
that just seem out of place.

Speaker 1 (12:02):
Right, And if you're ever in doubt, it's always better
to err on the side of caution, exactly.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
And remember you can always report any suspicious activity to
the authorities. They're there to help protect us.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
Okay, So, for all you movie buffs out there, get
ready for this. A sequel to the nineteen eighty six
cult classic Labyrinth is in development. Labyrinth.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Wow. I love that movie as a kid.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
It's a classic. And Robert Eggers is directing.

Speaker 2 (12:25):
Wow Eggers, that's so interesting. He's such a talented director
he is.

Speaker 1 (12:29):
I can't wait to see what he does with this story.

Speaker 2 (12:31):
Me neither. It's going to be fascinating to see how
he reimagines this beloved film nearly forty years later.

Speaker 1 (12:38):
Right. And it just shows how powerful storytelling can be.
These stories can stay with us for decades.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
Absolutely, they challenge us, move us, and make us think
about the world in new ways.

Speaker 1 (12:49):
Well said. So, we've covered a lot of ground in
this segment, everything from serious issues like ADHD and online
scams to more lighthearted topics like the Super Bowl halftime
show and the Labyrinth SQL.

Speaker 2 (13:00):
Right, and it all ties back to what's happening here
in San Antonio exactly.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
And I think it highlights the fact that San Antonio
is a city that's constantly evolving and growing.

Speaker 2 (13:09):
Absolutely, but at the same time, we're also a city
that's grounded in our traditions and our sense of community.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
I love that. It's a unique blend of gold and news.

Speaker 2 (13:17):
Yeah, and it's what makes San Antonio such a special place.

Speaker 1 (13:20):
I agree. So what do you think are some of
the biggest challenges facing San Antonio right now?

Speaker 2 (13:25):
Well, I think one of the biggest challenges is ensuring
that everyone in our community has the opportunity to thrive, right.
You know, we need to address issues like poverty, inequality,
and access to healthcare and education.

Speaker 1 (13:37):
Absolutely, And I think another challenge is balancing growth and
development with preserving our city's unique character and charm.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
Yeah. I agree. We don't want to lose what makes
San Antonio so special exactly.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
But I'm optimistic about the future me too. I think
San Antonio has a lot to offer, and I'm excited
to see what the next chapter holds.

Speaker 2 (13:56):
I think we're on the cusp of something really special.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
I agree. Now up this segment. I want to leave
our listeners with something to think about. Okay, how can
we each contribute to making San Antonio an even better
place to live, work, and play.

Speaker 2 (14:09):
That's a great question. It's something we should.

Speaker 1 (14:12):
All be thinking about, absolutely, because at the end of
the day, it's up to all of us to shape
the future of our city.

Speaker 2 (14:18):
Yeah, it's a good reminder that, you know, sometimes you
just got to laugh at yourself and not take everything
so seriously exactly.

Speaker 1 (14:24):
You know, a little levity goes a long way, especially
when things are feeling a little overwhelming.

Speaker 2 (14:28):
For sure. You got to find the humor in the
every day, you know, roll with the punches absolutely.

Speaker 1 (14:35):
Now, speaking of extraordinary things, how about those six planets
aligned in the night sky.

Speaker 2 (14:41):
Oh yeah, that's pretty amazing. I mean it's not something
you see every day, No, it's not.

Speaker 1 (14:46):
It really makes you think about how vast and mysterious
the universe is.

Speaker 2 (14:51):
Yeah, it puts things in perspective, for sure. Makes you
feel pretty.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Small, it does, but in a good way, you know,
like it makes you appreciate the bigger picture.

Speaker 2 (14:59):
I know you mean. So, you know we were talking
about inspiring stories earlier and Stefan Castle's journey to the
Slam Dunk Contest, I mean, talk about defying the odds.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
It really is an incredible story. You know, he wasn't
a big name coming out of college, but his hard
work and dedication have really paid off.

Speaker 2 (15:16):
Yeah, and now he's representing San Antonio on a national stage.

Speaker 1 (15:19):
It's a great reminder that anything is possible if you
set your mind to it.

Speaker 2 (15:24):
Exactly. Talent and determination can take you far.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
Absolutely, And speaking of businesses making a splash in San Antonio,
we've got to give a shout out to Marshall's and
Burlington for expanding their footprint here.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Yeah. It's a good sign for the local economy and
it shows that those brands are confident in San Antonio's future.

Speaker 1 (15:41):
Yeah, for sure. And it's a reminder that businesses need
to be adaptable and responsive to what consumers want.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Definitely, they're clearly doing something right and their success is
good for the whole city.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Absolutely. Now let's talk about one of my favorite places
in San Antonio, the Zoo. They're doing such great work
connecting with the community and promoting conservation. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
The Zoos is a real asset to San Antonio. You know,
they're not just about entertainment. They're also playing a vital
role in education and research exactly.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
And I love how they're always coming up with new
and creative ways to engage visitors, like that Pokemon Go event.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
Yeah, that's a great example and it's a fun way
to learn about animals and conservation.

Speaker 1 (16:22):
Definitely. Now, for those of you who are looking for
a little get away this spring, North Padre Island is
calling your name.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
I mean, who doesn't love a beautiful beach, and North
Padre has that laid back vibe that's perfect for relaxing
vacation exactly.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
It's a great place to unwind, reconnect with nature, and
just enjoy the simple things in life.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
Absolutely, and speaking of escaping into other worlds, we can't
forget about that Labyrinth sequel that's in the works.

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Oh yeah, I'm really curious to see what they do
with that. I love the original movie.

Speaker 2 (16:52):
It's a classic, and with Robert Eggers directing, it's bound
to be visually stunning and thought provoking.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
I can't wait. Yeah, well, it sounds like we've got
a lot to look forward to in San Antonio. There's
always something happening here.

Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah. It's a city that's full of surprises.

Speaker 1 (17:06):
And that's what makes it so much fun to explore.
So as we wrap up today's deep dive, I want
to encourage all of our listeners to stay curious, stay engaged,
