This is the Mad's Own Mom Squad podcast, a production
of iHeartRadio. Hard working real mamas having real conversations. Now
sit back, relax, and get ready to talk mom life
with Christa and her Squad.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
Well, let me guess that Karna coming in here looking
all bustled up.
Speaker 3 (00:21):
You're stressed out right now for the holiday out.
Speaker 4 (00:23):
I have an acne patch on my forehead because I'm
so stressedful. I saw that, but I wasn't gonna say
I mean of Coursey one, because moms, no, like I
see you, Yeah, in your acne patch.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
It's okay, I've got like hives in the back of
my eye.
Speaker 4 (00:36):
It is a. It's a it's a time of the year.
It's the time of the year.
Speaker 3 (00:40):
Isn't it crazy? Though?
Speaker 2 (00:42):
It's you know, I came across an article and it
was about moms who share how they deal with this
mental load during the holidays, because if you think about it,
it seems like the woman is typically the one that
takes on all the duties. I mean, you know, decoring house, getting.
Speaker 4 (01:01):
All the getting, yes, wrapping them all, wrapping them all,
creating the magic and all this, and then and then
all the credit has given to this white fat man
with a beard.
Speaker 3 (01:10):
Right, no, right, Sannah, No, he can't get all the credit. Hello.
I mean I just don't think that's fair. It's not fair.
It's not fair whatsoever. And then you know, well then
there's school stuff. There's some teachers.
Speaker 4 (01:21):
Yes, the mailman, the mailman. Oh, we love the mailman.
I mean we love the mailman. We have to give
the mailman. And if you live in an apartment, the
door man, yes, I have that. You know, it's weird that.
Speaker 5 (01:31):
Sitters, house cleaners, all these things.
Speaker 2 (01:33):
It's weird because I live in an apartment. And for
some reason now the the uh Uber drivers or you
know not Amazon drivers excuse me, cannot go into my facility,
into the delivery room anymore. So they put all the
gifts like out on the floor. I was like, anyone
can come pick up these things? There's Christmas there?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
Yeah, high those are my presence sting it.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
And I can't tell you how many times that I've
been on line now shopping, Like I came across what
the average American will spend this holiday season and it's
two thousand dollars.
Speaker 3 (02:07):
Shot the front door.
Speaker 4 (02:09):
Yeah, I'm probably there, Oh for sure, I'm probably there now,
and I still haven't gotten my in laws.
Speaker 3 (02:14):
I still haven't gotten.
Speaker 4 (02:14):
My ann and not to mention, you're shipping all this stuff,
so can we add that into the gift thing?
Speaker 3 (02:20):
Well, see, like that's part of the gift.
Speaker 4 (02:23):
Right, the shipping, well, dollars on shipping.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Do you know how much this was? By god? Yeah,
that is funny though.
Speaker 4 (02:30):
Here's my Dollar Store gift and then the shipping. I
love the Dollar Store, by the way, I do too.
Do you know it's like a great place to find
a core. I absolutely agree with you. But you know
one thing, I want to circle back around with all
the cost stuff. I will say I'm a huge thrifter.
Oh yeah, I really really believe in that, because I'll
tell you why you can find really amazing things.
Speaker 3 (02:51):
I know, I can't see her. I just see your
lips moving.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
I see, I can't see.
Speaker 3 (02:59):
That's how we just like, you know, selling it over here.
Speaker 5 (03:02):
Sah, it's all good now I see your face. Yeah,
No one needs to see our faces.
Speaker 2 (03:08):
No, because we're stressed out. But it's very awkward to
talk to someone and you're not looking at their face.
But this is the person radio, you know, face off,
face off, face off.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
That's what I asked Santa for. By the way, a
new face, A new face. Your face is beautiful?
Speaker 2 (03:23):
Is that now I'm forty seven? I am inching it
towards those fifties. No, you're not even closer. You look
like you're forties.
Speaker 3 (03:31):
Oh you're sweet. Okay, okay, I'll take that. You could
be sisters, Okay, I'll take it. Uh no, you could
be like my daughter. No, no, no, no, no, okay.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
Well let's circle back around this because we are stressed retired, right,
we don't want to age another year just because the
holidays are around the corner. But let's talk about this.
What are some things at work?
Speaker 5 (03:48):
What have worked?
Speaker 4 (03:49):
What?
Speaker 3 (03:50):
What's working for you? To say? Ordering online?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Yep, I'm I do a lot of online shopping. I
don't like going into the stores. That drives me crazy personally.
I can can't take that amount of people around me.
It causes me anxiety, a little anxious. And believe me,
I'm not one to like stand around on a Black
Friday for two hours in line to get a gift.
Speaker 3 (04:10):
But I didn't once at coals, did you really? I did?
Speaker 2 (04:13):
I spent an hour and it was like one o'clock
in the morning, and I was falling asleep while I
was in line, So I'm like, screw this.
Speaker 3 (04:19):
Yeah, I took all those that I had.
Speaker 2 (04:21):
And I hit it so I could go back the
next day and it was there. So you hit in
the store, Yeah, I hit all the stuff that I
wanted to buy.
Speaker 3 (04:28):
I know what he took it?
Speaker 2 (04:30):
No, because I hit it like under like you know
a department's, you know, wheel of clothes.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
So I hit it, I stashed it. I did money.
Speaker 2 (04:38):
It was close to the wall, so I stashed it,
and I'm like, oh, I'll come tomorrow, and it was there.
So yeah, so a little sign note, But yeah, did
you get the deals? Oh no, I didn't.
Speaker 3 (04:50):
Okay, yeah, okay, I screwed myself over see.
Speaker 4 (04:53):
Now, the only thing I would say about places like
Coal's or Walmart or Target is you can go in
with a list and you can get a lot of
things for a lot of people in one go. Sure, right,
oh yeah, that's the one benefit of it, like stores
like that.
Speaker 5 (05:08):
But I am with you. I do a lot of
the drive ups.
Speaker 4 (05:11):
I don't do so much of the shipping, but like
I'll pick like all the stuff for the teachers or
all the stuff for in laws, and I order it
for drive ups because you know stores do that.
Speaker 3 (05:22):
Now what is a drive up?
Speaker 4 (05:23):
So like at Target you can you can plug in
what you want and you press it has to be
on your app.
Speaker 3 (05:29):
Okay, okay, now you are acting for you.
Speaker 2 (05:33):
You mean like when you order online kind of like
door dash, but you're going to the You're still going
to the store.
Speaker 4 (05:39):
Yeah, but they just give it to you in your window.
You never even get out of the car.
Speaker 2 (05:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (05:42):
No, I haven't done that yet. What No, I absolutely
have not done that.
Speaker 5 (05:46):
Gosh, what age are you living in?
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Where? I mean, where is there a drive up where
you go to Target and they like hand you this
stuff through a freindoware.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Really single Target?
Speaker 5 (05:54):
So you basically get the app.
Speaker 3 (05:56):
I feel like I'm talking. I have no idea.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Okay, yes, all right, now I am your.
Speaker 3 (06:00):
No no, no, no, no. You don't literally.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Order this on your app and then you say I'm
driving up and it's all connected to your car and
everything in your car. You write down your car and
then you drive into Targets parking lot. You say I'm
in slot three and they just walk out with your stuff.
You can actually opt out of bags so you can
bring your own tots and they just put it in
the back of your car and then you just drive home.
Speaker 3 (06:24):
You never get out.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
And it's so great with you know, little kids like
you know how annoying.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
It is to pull them out your car seats all that, and.
Speaker 4 (06:31):
If it's cold or if you don't Also, I'll tell
you another thing that's great about it is if you
do the drive up, you get less crap because you're
not in the store of buying stuff. You're saving your mind.
Speaker 3 (06:43):
Yeah, no, I'm gonna I'm gonna set you up with this.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (06:44):
I can't believe you don't.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
Know the alls I've been doing since I broke my
damn foot in five areas since August. For three months now,
I've been grocery shopping through door dash.
Speaker 3 (06:56):
I mean that kind of is the same thing. Isn't
as it expensive?
Speaker 2 (07:00):
No?
Speaker 5 (07:01):
I mean no, it costs nothing. You're literally just driving up.
But it's only specific places.
Speaker 3 (07:07):
Isn't that like a variety of places?
Speaker 2 (07:09):
Well?
Speaker 3 (07:09):
Yeah, and it costs money.
Speaker 5 (07:10):
Oh yeah, I have holidays on this tip.
Speaker 3 (07:14):
Merry Christmas. I want to check this is. This is
my helpful tip for you I.
Speaker 2 (07:20):
Know, I know well, and you also gave me a
beautiful Christmas gift.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
By the way, well soap is like it's the best.
I love soap.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
So I mean too, is that weird and pretty soap?
Speaker 2 (07:31):
No, it has to be pretty and it has to
smell good. And the reason why because the way I distress.
And I do this every day. I take three vasa day.
I know you know this, but it's a real thing.
I just had one of my coworkers here at iHeart say,
do you really take three vasa day because it's in
my bio, and I said, yes, I do.
Speaker 5 (07:48):
But do you doing morning?
Speaker 2 (07:50):
I'll do well, I yuess, I'll do it in the
morning before work, and then I always take one when
I come home, and then I will usually take another
like either during the day. It just depends. But I
don't soak in the bath. I'm only in there for
like five minutes. It's just to get my ginger skin warm.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Oh interesting. Do you know this in the summer?
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Yes, but I cool, I cooled well, I'm freezing during
the winter and the summer.
Speaker 3 (08:16):
In the summer, I'll still take a warm bath.
Speaker 2 (08:19):
Yeah, I just it just feels good on again, my
old ass bone because I.
Speaker 3 (08:24):
Am already seven year old. I'm not forty seven. Until
you said you didn't know about Target drive.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
That's the only thing that's each I need to be
sponsored by Target, that's anywhere.
Speaker 3 (08:34):
Okay, yeah, we're doing us. We don't endorse Target just
so you know.
Speaker 2 (08:38):
By the way, Ga had her very first play, Oh
I saw, I know how was not proud of her?
She did amazing her Now she was absolutely amazing, And
it was just such a fun journey to go through
this for you know, a couple of months. We're going
through the lines and having her, you know, act out
(08:59):
her character and talking about tech and you know, all.
Speaker 3 (09:02):
This fun stuff.
Speaker 2 (09:02):
I'm like, you know, I'm like, I always wondered if
my daughter would follow those shoes of mine.
Speaker 5 (09:09):
Oh yeah, I mean you can see that she's got
yeah confidence.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
Oh yeah, but she's really good.
Speaker 4 (09:14):
Was it a lot of preparation and auditioning and work
for her?
Speaker 3 (09:18):
Was that part part of it? Well? Yeah, she had
to do like a ban a log, which is adorable.
I know, I know it. I'm so excited, I thought.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
But you know, she goes to you know, you know,
her high school is like with what is it elementary
through senior. So it was a smaller play, not one
that's well known, but it was so stink and cute.
It was about forty five minutes. And uh, she actually
played Fred number two. There was a Fred number one
and her Fred number two friend or Fred Fred.
Speaker 3 (09:47):
Yeah, she played a boy.
Speaker 2 (09:49):
She did awesome though, But she's basically just you know,
being herself, gaming and doing pilates, which she called pillatese.
Speaker 3 (09:58):
They're not called PILATESE. They're called pilates. But did they
correct her?
Speaker 4 (10:00):
Her character was supposed to say, oh, I say, okay
that part of the script.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
So yeah, no, it's super cute and just to you know,
that distressed me.
Speaker 4 (10:09):
Well, I think that's the thing that when it comes
to the holidays, is to really focus and harness on
the things that make you feel good, taking baths, enjoying
what your kids enjoy because really, if you think about it,
I saw this quote this morning about how, you know
the kid we create magic for kids, but we also
realize that that's the magic for us in a lot
of ways too, And I thought about that. You know,
(10:31):
when you do think about all the stress, like the
shopping for every single person on the planet, Yes, and
moms especially get weighted down with all of the tasks
of decorating and getting this stuff and playing Santa. Really
but also looking at your kids, because when I think
about my childhood, and of course I'm aware that everybody
doesn't have this, but you know, we didn't come from
(10:53):
a wealthy family at all, but we did a lot
of things.
Speaker 3 (10:56):
We made cookies, we decorated.
Speaker 4 (10:58):
We had orange juice with sparkling water and pretended it
was champagne as kids, you know, like any little things
that were kind of fun. And my mom my dad
did all this crafts, you know, and I think, you know,
they probably were really stressed out, but like I can
only think of that magic that they created for me.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Sure, and I try to recognize that too, you know.
Speaker 4 (11:19):
Just to remember that you are creating this magic for
your kids, but really it's switched to like I'm also
doing something for their future families or their future lives
and that cycle of magic. And if you grew up
in a home without magic, then you have this opportunity
to And I really do want to stress, like we
are stressed out, but you know, there are great ways
(11:41):
of making things less stress. There's good stress or yeah,
and also ordering things.
Speaker 5 (11:46):
Online, yeah, store dashes.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
I'm a big component of sticking to lists. Yeah, you know,
I have a list of things that I have to do.
I have a list of things that I would like
help with, and I actually am very vocal about that.
I look at my husband and I'll say, like, this
is the list of things that.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
We both can do. Oh, I like it.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
That's a great way to make your man do something well.
And it's not passive aggressive, Okay, all right, right, it's
literally just a list that says, here's my list, and
it's like really frickin' long, okay.
Speaker 3 (12:15):
And then here's something. Is this another.
Speaker 2 (12:18):
Fabulous tip from Karna to keep a happy marriage with
her hot husband.
Speaker 3 (12:25):
Puggy the Yogi. Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (12:28):
It just kind of works.
Speaker 4 (12:29):
I feel like my husband is very similar to a
lot of men where they're.
Speaker 3 (12:33):
Very linear, you like, just tell me what to do.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
Like one time I said to him, like early in
our relationship, I said, how.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Come you never clean the bathroom? And he's like, well,
it's always clean.
Speaker 4 (12:43):
I said, because I'm doing that's right, And he's like,
just put it on a list.
Speaker 3 (12:47):
I'll do it, but you have to.
Speaker 5 (12:48):
I was like, oh my god, It's like, how is
that possible?
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Yeah, it's I guessing my fourteen year old daughter Jia
to do the dishes. What she'll do in her mind
is think, oh, I'll just take out the clean ones,
but I will put the new dirty ones in there, right,
But she doesn't think the whole process. She just thinks
it's half half. Yeah, we don't complete the whole task.
It's just half the task. So you have to see
(13:12):
the whole day I do. I have to Yes, yeah,
same thing with laundry. Oh my gosh, yes, laundry the
never ending. So we need to fold the laundry now
that you moved it from, you know, under the dryer.
Speaker 3 (13:24):
So yeah, we're we're getting there. But no, I'm just
I think those are great, you know, headless.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
What else do you do to like? Well?
Speaker 2 (13:32):
We always Well, one of the favorite things that brings
happiness to me is I love decorating. So I always
enjoy this time of year because I enjoy having a
you know, a beautiful home that's sparkly and stuff.
Speaker 3 (13:46):
So that brings joy to me.
Speaker 2 (13:47):
Even though the fact that I needed to ask to
my neighbors to go to my storage and bring that
day Christmas tree out because I could not walk in
my wheelchair.
Speaker 3 (13:56):
But no, so that was really fun.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
Always watching the holiday movies National Lampoon's Christmas, Love It,
Bad Santa, Yes, Bad Mom's Christmas, Bad Moms that I
don't know. Watching the movies definitely is one thing that
we enjoy. Yeah, and just relaxing, you know. But yeah,
so anyway, for the moms out there, we know that
you take on everything and everything. This is not something
(14:22):
that's kept a secret.
Speaker 5 (14:23):
And we see you.
Speaker 4 (14:24):
Yeah, we know it's not just Santa. No, that's right.
We know it's not Santa. I should clear that up.
Speaker 2 (14:31):
It's it's it's Mom, It's but don't don't you know,
fred to ask for help. That's one thing if you
need help in something, if you know, like you know,
I've got people coming over and I was supposed.
Speaker 3 (14:43):
To make the dessert.
Speaker 2 (14:44):
You call Karna because Karna knows how to bake. And
so that's why I had a conversation with her the
other night. I'm like, can you teach me how to
make soup? And we got to do that.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Yeah, we'll do it.
Speaker 5 (14:55):
Yeah, but I will teach you how to make soup, please.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
Teach me how to make soup. I don't know what
I can teach to you.
Speaker 4 (15:00):
You have taught me so much and you've given me
this opportunity. You know.
Speaker 3 (15:05):
That's the other thing about holidays.
Speaker 4 (15:06):
It's also being grateful for Oh yeah, okay, look at
where I am right now, a stressed out about the holidays. Yes,
but I'm here with friends. So that's the other thing too,
is ask for help. But then also call that friend
over and watch that Christmas movie with her or him
or whoever, and and surround yourself with people.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
Then inspire you just make smire me.
Speaker 3 (15:26):
Just make sure you bring me a Christmas gift.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
If you didn't, I would be really or at Christmas cookie. No,
but I'm laughing because actually she just did bring me
all these yummy goodies and a beautiful Christmas gift. So
and I didn't get you anything.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
No, you got me, which I'm so happy.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
You're so great. Great.
Speaker 2 (15:46):
Oh well, I'll give you some passes to things, and
I'll give you another zero or four T shirt and
pink they have pink. Yeah, I found them. I thought
I went rambling through the office. Okay, I'll kill the swag.
I'll give it all.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Right, my love, I love you.
Speaker 2 (16:02):
I hope you have a fabulous you know, Christmas, I know,
you know, you.
Speaker 3 (16:07):
Know, holidays, a happy holidays, Oh my gosh. And then
the New Year. We got to talk about that. Oh
my goodness. Yeah, it's coming quick. It is so quick.
New Year, new you. Yes, oh what a cliche new year?
Do you like your best like you know? I don't know,
uh yeah, voiceover, your voiceover?
Speaker 2 (16:26):
Oh yeah, so Karina Krena, Yeah, she was a fabulous
model in Chicago and she's been in TV ads, so
I don't know, put on your.
Speaker 5 (16:34):
Well, I mean, what is this a commercial for the year? Yes, yes, well,
like I wouldn't even do it sexy.
Speaker 4 (16:40):
Okay, okay, this is the time for the new year
and the new you.
Speaker 3 (16:47):
There you go, there you go. Let's change that up
a little bit. That's that's our next show. We're going
to get into that. We're gonna get that, all right, honey.
I love you, I love you. Happy holidays everyone, Holidays.
Speaker 1 (16:59):
