Speaker 6 (01:34):
Stove, what a kind of name is that?

Speaker 7 (01:37):
It's the best name? Welcome back to another season of
it as well. My name is Chuck Powell and anders
Hurst and I are back together for another off season
season number.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
Two of Stove. Good to have you. Are we finally
ready to get into this?

Speaker 8 (01:54):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:54):
I think so.

Speaker 7 (01:54):
We.

Speaker 9 (01:55):
You know, it's been a weird off season so far
because it took a little bit for me to kind
of get ready to dive into the you know what
the maryors can do to get better, because usually I'm
all in on that even before the season ends sometimes,
but I needed some time to reflect after twenty twenty
four and I'm ready to go.

Speaker 4 (02:12):
What about you?

Speaker 7 (02:13):
Yeah, I couldn't have said it better myself. And look,
I'm like twice as old as you. So I have
been doing this and I am a nutbag when it
comes to off season and stuff. It's one of my
favorite things in the world to discuss as a sports
talk radio host. As a matter of fact, when I
used to do a comedy slash music show, the one

(02:34):
thing that I missed doing from sports talk radio was
talking about baseball.

Speaker 9 (02:39):
Offseason, baseball off season specifically.

Speaker 4 (02:41):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (02:41):
So it's like it's one of my favorite topics to
discuss on planet Earth. And yet I was the same way.
I was so disappointed, dismayed, disenchanted by how the Mariners
didn't make it to the playoffs this year. Yeah, I
needed a little bit of time. It was a little
bit of a struggle to me just to watch the playoffs,
which has ever occurred.

Speaker 9 (03:00):
Yeah, same with me. I feel the exact same way.
It's weird because baseball playoffs, I think is one of
the more underrated professional sports playoffs around the leagues. I
think it kind of gets to shuffled down towards the
bottom because everyone loves the NHL Stanley Cup playoffs. Everyone
loves the NFL playoffs obviously, and then all the college
stuff going on. But I mean, I had a tough

(03:22):
time just like it wasn't as much the big disappointment
for me about twenty twenty four. It was like, all right,
like where do we go from here? Sort of situation,
and that's kind of where I was at, and I
had to do some reflecting on what I can expect
for this next coming year, and you know, I think
I'm ready to finally get into the Okay, where where
can we go from here? So where where do you
think we can go from?

Speaker 7 (03:43):
Well, yeah, the juices are going again, and they're they're
actually at a fever pitch at this point. But you know,
I think the hurdle for me was that we've gone
through this exercise like offseason after offseason and then you know,
you know, I don't think I've ever felt great about
the Mariners offseason since I moved here, but I felt

(04:03):
it was good enough the last couple of years, and
so to go out and then you make your preseason
predictions and you feel good about those predictions and then
you realize, man, my prediction would have come through had
this team just not so grossly underachieved, And then you

(04:23):
feel like a fool, like I really want to start
this conversation over. I mean, we know we're not going
out there and getting Sodo, and bregmant.

Speaker 9 (04:31):
Come you are you're going to do this to me
now on the first episode three minutes in and say
we're not getting on Sodo.

Speaker 7 (04:40):
You know it's going to be clever, cheap, tricky, backdoor
kind of moves that once you see the final picture
come together, then you might feel good about it.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
But now it did last year. Yes, that's exactly.

Speaker 7 (04:53):
What we did this year last year, And so to
go through that process again and be like, I don't
know if I like that one, I hate that one.
That one's all right, oh, I'll actually love that and
have to wait for the process for the first time.
I'm like, I was a bit reluctant to kind of
dive into it, but the juice has recently got going.
I rolled the sleeves back, I did my annual crystal

(05:17):
Ball twenty five predictions, and it's not just a full
fledged prediction. I think this is very important because I
know we're going to discuss it for most of the
episode here. Anders it's a combination a very key thing
that I wrote in there. It's a combination of what
I think they'll do with what I want them to
do with the third thing, and that is what they

(05:39):
will be allowed to.

Speaker 8 (05:40):
Do.

Speaker 7 (05:40):
So this, to me, is a realistic way to make
this a better, more balanced World Series contender.

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Without just doing the typical.

Speaker 7 (05:52):
Fan who's good soda or bust, because I just don't
think that's realistic.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
I mean, we'll discuss it.

Speaker 7 (05:58):
We've got an entire offseason discuss Juan Soto's free agency.
But to me, this is just a realistic look of
what can be done this offseason without jacking up payroll.
And I think I've come up with a plan that
makes the team better.

Speaker 9 (06:13):
Okay, so let's dive into that. But I think the
best way to describe, at least what I'm getting from
you is that if you were Jerry Depoto and you
had the same restrictions that you believe he has, this
is what you would do.

Speaker 4 (06:27):
Yeah, and you think it's realistic.

Speaker 7 (06:29):
Not only not only is there what I think what
I would do, it's what I think can be done.

Speaker 4 (06:34):
Yeah, Yeah, which is very clear distinction.

Speaker 7 (06:36):
I think these are moves that can be done that
don't break the bank, and yet make this team more
balanced on paper, more explosive offensively, better defensively. And then
there's another element, which we'll get into during the conversation.
I think it makes them grittier and tougher as a
baseball team, and I think that was a missing element

(06:58):
this past year as well. And it's not that I
don't think that the Mariners tried. I think for the
most part, they were given tremendous effort. And I think
that they're a clubhouse that year after year seemed to
get along really well. Despite a couple of turns in
the punch bowl that they have, they seem to have
a really good camaraderie. But last year's team, in particular Anders,
I got the feeling at times that they didn't believe

(07:19):
in themselves anymore, and when they got done in the game,
it felt like they were rolling over. Yeah, everyone, with
the exception of Rayley and Raleigh, who can never they
can never be turned down. So I kind of made
a point to get more Raleigh Raleigh types. So it's
not just the talent influx. It's not just trying to
shore up weaknesses, but also that intangible that hid, an

(07:42):
intangible that holks like us really don't know. Well, yeah,
what's going on behind closed doors. But I just feel
like this team needs a new attitude going forward.

Speaker 9 (07:51):
Yeah, and that's a good distinction to make, because there's
a difference between not giving effort and that wasn't I
don't think an issue at all with the twenty twenty
four Seattle Mariners. But the mental makeup of players is
completely different. You have players like Julio Rodriguez, who's very happy,
go lucky. I'm always gonna be excited to play baseball.
I'm gonna be smiling all the time. And you have

(08:12):
players like George Kirby, who looks like he wants to
punch someone in the face every time you walk by him.
It's there's just totally different like mentalities. And I totally
agree with you. I think they need a little more grittiness.
That's no knock on any of the players, that's just
who they are. So getting more of those types of
players in the roster I think would help everyone. And
I completely agree with you. So let's dive into it

(08:35):
first move you said.

Speaker 6 (08:37):
I'm gonna read the word for word here. Thursday, November
twenty third. The headline reads Mariners wait into shallow waters
as a Thanksgiving appetizer. Depoto and Holland are complete a
minor deal for a career on base.

Speaker 9 (08:52):
Machine and that first trade is Donic Canzone for first
base Lamar characters that he invented. All right, so, dom
Ken zone for Lamontway Junior. Give us your kind of
breakdown on this one.

Speaker 7 (09:06):
Well, number one, this is you know, this is not
some major move. This would create a Snart Nato. As
I write in the article as well, people will be, oh, yeah,
sure that's the move that puts us over the top.
No it's not. But you know, I don't hate the
platoon idea, and this is not like a straight up platoon,
which we'll get into in a moment. But the idea

(09:28):
behind this is La Montway Junior is available.

Speaker 4 (09:31):
Yep. So and all of this is realistic.

Speaker 7 (09:33):
Everybody that I went after, there's a reports out there
that they are available.

Speaker 4 (09:38):
So he is available.

Speaker 7 (09:39):
He's not a guy that's going to be a big
difference maker for the Giants, but if you can put
him with a re signed Justin Turner. Nobody's doing backflips
over that first base combination. But those are two veterans
who can field their position. Yeah, you know, there's no
gold in that glove, but you got righty lefty, Now

(10:02):
one's gonna come off the bench for you at night.
They don't have to be strict platoons because Turner can
hit righty's and Wade can hit lefties. Wade was actually
better at hitting lefties this past year. But at four
million dollars to add a bench weapon and somebody that
and I know you love this that gets on base, yeah,
three seventy three two years ago, three to eighty on

(10:22):
base this past year. I think that that combination hitting
eighth in your lineup, not hitting fourth like Justin Turner
did when he arrived on the scene, but hitting eighth
in your lineup, I think works. And it's a cheap,
smart way to get quality at bats every time through

(10:42):
the lineup when either one of those two guys are playing,
and then to still have them in reserve in a
key pinch hitting spot.

Speaker 4 (10:51):
That's that's just a sort of like a.

Speaker 7 (10:53):
Cheap little move and you don't have to give up
much to get him because he's not very good and
I don't consider Dom Zone much, but maybe the San
Francisco Giants see a cheaper, younger upside guy for what
they're trying.

Speaker 4 (11:08):
To achieve, and so that's why I made that.

Speaker 9 (11:10):
Yep, if this trade goes through, I have one word
and that's upgrade. That's they're pretty similar makeups, to be honest,
can Zone. I Originally Lamont Wade was a corner outfielder
coming up for field exactly. Yeah, so he can fill
in on that role if you need him to. But
I do think he's going to be much better at
drawing those walks. And the biggest thing for me is

(11:32):
he's known for his clutch hitting. He has a nickname,
which I love, by the way, late Night Lamont, because
he always would come up big late in the game.
He was huge during that twenty twenty one over one
hundred win Giants team that THESS exactly. But Tepler a
manager of the ear exactly. So I actually really like

(11:55):
this move. And he he has a little bit of
injury history. Didn't play I think for like two months
to start the season last year or something like that.
But I'm all in on this one. I love it.
I've always liked Lamont Wade as a player. It doesn't
take you over the top by any means, but this
kind of gets you more towards that. Okay, this isn't
a little bit of an upgrade. I think you get

(12:16):
a little older, which I think is okay, doesn't look
like a guy that's going to be declining sharply anytime soon.
Plus he plays first base, so positionally that won't be
a huge issue. You just need him to hit, and
that hasn't been an issue for him the last couple
of years, especially with his ability to get on base.
And you mentioned it earlier the next move, I guess
I'll say it in the Voice Tuesday, November December third,

(12:40):
the headline reads another turn for Turner. So you mentioned
this in the last part with Lamont Waite, but getting
Justin Turner back as well.

Speaker 7 (12:47):
Yeah, I think that he still showed at the end
of his year, despite his advanced age, that he can
give you a quality at bad Yeah. And as you
reported when it was happy last year, the presence of him,
he is an ultimate team guy, an ultimate winner. I
thought there were moments, especially during that parade of idiotic base.

Speaker 4 (13:09):
Running moves where he did one every night.

Speaker 7 (13:12):
For three nights in a row and kind of eliminated
us from the playoffs. And you could look see the
look on Justin Turner's face of what the hell am
I a part of here? And it's just not anything
that a championship caliber team would do. Maybe once in
a great while, but three nights in a row or
whatever that rash of stupidity was, whatever the rate was.

(13:35):
And so I thought to myself, Man, this guy won't
come back here if you begged him. But it sounds
like he enjoyed his time here. It sounds like he's
somebody that the organization has engaged with and that there's
a chance to bring him back.

Speaker 4 (13:47):
Now.

Speaker 7 (13:48):
I can't bring him back at the salary he was
making a year ago, but he is a year older.
If I can give him the right sort of role
on the team, which is not play every day, but
the right kind of role on the team, and I'd
get to have my players lean on him, not just
a coaching staff, but to lean on Justin Turner for advice,

(14:10):
which he seems free to give. I think he's an asset, Yeah,
and I want to keep him.

Speaker 9 (14:15):
Yeah, I I'm with you.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
On that.

Speaker 9 (14:16):
I think he's more than anything he'll bring on the field,
it's off the field stuff. As long as he wants
to be here. I think that's a big, big distinction
with a lot of his players, And obviously, if he's
gonna sign free agency, that means he probably will want
to be here. I did see a noticeable drop in
his willingness to communicate with a bunch of players, And

(14:41):
I don't want to speculate, but it seems like that
was both management meeting Scott's service and.

Speaker 4 (14:50):
Jerry Depoto kind of telling him.

Speaker 9 (14:51):
Hey, like, let's not let's not get too into the
heads of all these younger players.

Speaker 4 (14:56):
Let's not confuse the already confused.

Speaker 9 (14:58):
Yeah, I'm not. I'm not saying that it's exactly how
it happened, but that's as someone who was down there
very often. That's kind of what it seemed like to me.
The first couple of weeks he was there, he was
talking to everybody, kind of giving him tips and tick
tricks of the trade, and then there was just a
sudden that wasn't happening anymore. So, obviously I don't know
what's happening behind the scenes. Maybe that was still happening,
and I just didn't see it, or maybe you know,

(15:21):
there was a reason for that that he wasn't doing
it as much. But I think if he's allowed to
do what he was brought in to do and be
a veteran presence to help a lot of the younger players,
especially from the hitting side, that's going to be a
huge asset for us moving forward. And it's not going to,
you know, break the bank to bring him back. He's
thirty nine years old and he's not going to hit
eight have a eight hundred ops. But he's going to

(15:43):
help players get to their potential, and I think that's
just as valuable in some ways.

Speaker 7 (15:48):
I think it's a great point to bring up, and
I think it was more than just your observation. I
think there is some substance to this. Steven Suza Junior
has said something similar. He was treated that way when
he was here. Somebody with some experience that might be
able to help a guy, a young guy in his approach,
which was.

Speaker 4 (16:09):
The word of the year, at least on the Chuck
and Buck Show.

Speaker 7 (16:12):
It's what Bucky talked about all the time, is how
frustrated he was with the Mariners approach. Well, here you've
got somebody who's still wearing the uniform, who's got one
of the classic modern day approaches to hitting.

Speaker 4 (16:22):
That there is he takes his walks, he still hits with.

Speaker 7 (16:25):
Power, even though less so now than what he did
a few years ago at age thirty nine. Just somebody
that went from is he going to make it in
the big leagues to a twenty year career for goodness say,
in the big league?

Speaker 4 (16:39):
So he might know something he thinks, so yeah, And.

Speaker 7 (16:42):
So this speaks to the biggest issue that I had
with the Mariners in twenty twenty four as an organization.
Obviously something was wrong with their offensive hitting philosophy, or
their instructors, or with the people that took the philosophy
to the instructors. There was some sort of breakdown that
took place because we had a bunch of confused hitters.

(17:03):
And so if Jerry Depoto is real when he says
we've got to rethink our entire offensive philosophy, that was
music to my ears, because your stubbornness and unwillingness to
adapt and to find credible people to teach, you know,
hitting for goodness sake, and you know, I think is
the reason we're not talking about three straight playoff appearances,

(17:26):
and so if they are being honest about the way
that they're going to change things from an offensive perspective,
then that means Edgar's going to be back. Who Julio
gave a lot of credit to recently in an interview.
I think it was with Daniel Kramer gave a lot
of credit to for the way the team hit better
in the month of September. That means Justin Turner's probably

(17:47):
going to have free access to talk to whoever he
wants do it.

Speaker 4 (17:51):
Do it.

Speaker 7 (17:51):
I want to hear any more stories that you're standing
in the way of guys who know how to hit,
helping young guys deal with slumps or struggles, or how
to approach certain pitchers. Let them share the information, let
them help each other, because I am not going to
stand for another baseball season of atrocious offense.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
Yep, I'm with you.

Speaker 9 (18:12):
And that kind of brings us to the next move,
because boy, this is the big one. I think this
is the one that has the most people talking that
read your crystal Ball article on nine three three KJR
dot com. You can find it there. By the way
Chuck explains in depth each move and what he thinks,
how he thinks that will help the team, and how
it's realistic as well.

Speaker 1 (18:33):
So breaking news and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 6 (21:38):
Wednesday, December eleventh. The headline reads Mariners Phillies pull off
winter meetings. Blockbuster activity has been slow to say the
least at the winter meetings in recent years. But Trader
Jerry has work to do in Dallas and this year
in the Big D, the Big D will stand for
deal and that deal is Seattle trades starting pitcher Luis

(22:03):
Castillo and relief pitcher Andres Munios to Philadelphia for outfielder
Kyle Schwarber, third baseman Alec Bohm and relief pitcher O'Ryan kickering.

Speaker 9 (22:17):
Is that.

Speaker 4 (22:19):
Checkering? Okay?

Speaker 9 (22:20):
Okay, yeah, we got it though. That's a huge one.
Is this is a sea blockbusters like that?

Speaker 8 (22:29):
No?

Speaker 9 (22:29):
And this is a roster shake up. This is a
distinction because I think the last few years the Mariners
have tried to keep their roster kind of looking the
same way, very pitching heavy and then just try and
fill the gaps offensively. This would shift that a little bit.
I think you take away from a strength and add
to your offense to up the floor, so to speak.

(22:52):
So explain this one. Why would you do it? Do
you think it's realistic? And how does this make the marrione?

Speaker 7 (23:01):
This starts to creep into the this is what you
should do, But I don't think they will do it. Okay,
I think they could move Castillo to try to create
money to go out and get offense. But if they
moved him, I think they want the type of moves
that Jerry and Justin make.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
They want controllable young players.

Speaker 7 (23:22):
And they might be able to Like if you did
it to Baltimore and you got maybe a Calton Kowser
or Jordan Westberg.

Speaker 4 (23:29):
Or maybe both. I don't know if you could get.

Speaker 7 (23:31):
Both of those guys for Luis Castillo. But that's that's
more like the move that they would do. I use
this because I think it gets you the most bang
for your.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
Buck, just talent wise, yes, just talent wise.

Speaker 7 (23:45):
And also you don't have to worry about a sophomore
slump or anything like that. You're getting two guys coming
off all star caliber seasons this past year who are
well into their major league careers and yet not anywhere
close to being near the end of them.

Speaker 4 (24:02):
These are shorter things.

Speaker 7 (24:04):
And so if I'm going to trade Castillo, I get
Schwarber who And this is a big part of it.
This is something that everybody's got to understand. When you
make trades in Major League Baseball, you don't trade player
for player. You trade player contract for player contract. Value wise, yes,
and that's how you determine it. So this is how
you can trade one starter with three years of control

(24:25):
for two big time hitters, one of which only has
one year of control remaining and the other one who
only has two years control remaining. So I am even
up three years of control. But three of those years
is in one player that you're sending out, yes, and
three years is in the two that are coming back.
But these moves can give you the bang for your buck.

(24:48):
And I just I told you before, I can't suffer
another atrocious offensive season. And if you do these Jorge Polanco,
Mitch Garver, you know, middle of the rain, which maybe
they are smart moves that just did not work out,
you know, you do run the risk of them tanking
or bottoming out. I don't think that you can mess

(25:09):
these two up. I think Alec Bohm has arrived as
at least a good third baseman, and Kyle Schwarber is
what Kyle Schwarber is. He's coming off a thirty eight
homer season, which I think is his lowest total in
the last three years. He gets on base, which Jerry loves.
He's an on base machine. And sure he strikes out
a lot, but we've learned to live with that. So

(25:30):
to me, this is too middle of the order. Guys,
twenty eight million dollars combined versus twenty four that's going
out the door.

Speaker 4 (25:38):
I don't want to trade a starting pitcher, but if
they're not going to spend money on the free agent
market to bring in difference makers on the offensive side
of the ball, then you have no choice anders but
to trade from depth.

Speaker 7 (25:53):
And rather than give out a Logan Gilbert who makes
basically nothing, or a George Kirby who makes basically nothing,
we know Wu and Miller don't make anything. Yet you
move your twenty four million dollar piece, and that gives
you an opportunity to trade for twenty to thirty million
dollars in offensive contracts to come and help this offense

(26:13):
immediately and avoid any fear of it being an atrocious
offense next year.

Speaker 9 (26:20):
Okay, I have thoughts. I have many thoughts on this.
First thought would be kind of what I mentioned when
I first introduced it, and that was this would change
your roster makeup. And I don't know if that's something
that Jerry and Justin want to do. As you mentioned,
they probably will go the route that they have the
last couple of years in that they want to stay

(26:42):
pitching heavy and stay like that is our strength of
the team. We want to keep that as intact as
possible and then just try and fill the gaps offensively
and hope we kind of get something there. This would
not be that right. This would take away one of
your best starting pitchers. And I know people it was
pretty popular to kind of bag on Louis Castile last year.
I think it was just that everyone else was really

(27:03):
good and it made him not seem as ace like
as normal. But he was still had a very good year.
And this is not a critique on Luist Castile. This
is a compliment. Yes, I move you because I can
get value for you exactly, and that it's not a
salary dump by any means whatsoever. I am a little
reluctant because I think.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
You can get.

Speaker 9 (27:27):
More value for one of the younger guys. I'm not
saying I don't like what we get in return. I
actually really like Kyle Schwerber. I you know me. I'm
a new analytics guy. I don't care about batting average mariners.
Fans will hate it if this happens because he's gonna
hit two ten, but he's going to be your best hitter.
And so if this happens like yeah, Manen.

Speaker 4 (27:48):
Layer doesn't stop this.

Speaker 7 (27:49):
No, So if he had thirty five homers, that's the
floor he's going to get.

Speaker 9 (27:53):
On base at least four hundred. He's gonna have at
least four hundred on base percentage, going to hit thirty
five home run. He gets on base and he slugs this.
He's the modern era baseball player. And there's a reason
he's always.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
I don't want nine guys like no, but to put
him in the middle of the order. And he hit
leadoff for the Phillies, by the way, but that's with
a much more loaded line up. Yes, So to put
him in the middle of the order, to me, it
feels like it's a missing piece.

Speaker 9 (28:22):
I completely agree. I think offensively, he significantly raises your floor,
and especially when you Pairrot with Alec Bohm, who's kind
of the opposite. He's a very contact hitter, more gap
to gap guy four doubles exactly. I'm a little worry.
I'm more word about Alec Bohm and a regression there
because last year was really his only year where he

(28:43):
was a significantly above average hitter, especially when you rely
on the kind of contact bapep luck ish sort of situation,
There's lots of room for regression. He's not an elite
third baseman by any means.

Speaker 4 (28:57):
He's neither was rohas sores when they got it.

Speaker 9 (29:01):
They're not so he We can hope maybe Perry Hill
can change that if that's the case. But I like
the combination of those two come together because they kind
of offset their styles together by both bringing more to
the table offensively than what you have. I'm most worried
about giving up andres Munyes, well, let.

Speaker 7 (29:18):
Me just address a bomb first, okay, because keep this
in my boom was like a top.

Speaker 9 (29:24):
Pig on the drafts. The draft.

Speaker 7 (29:27):
He's six foot five, big guy, okay, and he's just
now starting to fill out his body. He's supposed to
be at this point like a thirty home run guy
at fifteen last year. Yeah, so I think there's power potential.

Speaker 4 (29:40):
I get it. Everybody listening to this.

Speaker 7 (29:41):
Not here, No, he'll hit seven home runs here. But
I think even the Phillies who are trying to, you know,
trying to trade him, I think, in an honest moment,
they're like well, he's got twenty five thirty homes run
his value. Yeah, and I mean you saw him in
the home run Derby last year just launching balls out,
So the power is there.

Speaker 4 (30:01):
He's he just didn't hit home runs this past season.

Speaker 7 (30:04):
So if he can take those forty four doubles, take
ten of them, you know, turnham into home runs.

Speaker 4 (30:11):
Now you got twenty five homer guy, thirty five double.

Speaker 7 (30:15):
I don't think he's ever going to be a star superstar,
but I think he can be a star level performer
for you. And he is somebody that I think is
a shorter thing than what you have currently, So to
get him, plus this is a big factor. Eight million dollars, yeah,
you know that's nothing for an all star caliber third baseman.

Speaker 4 (30:35):
And uh yeah. He finished week for the Philadelphia Phillies last.

Speaker 9 (30:39):
Season hot, hot start, but then kind of fell off yet.
But overall he.

Speaker 7 (30:43):
Was productive and he seemed to be likable. The players
on the Phillies seem to really like the kid, and so.

Speaker 9 (30:52):
I think he's a great guy too.

Speaker 7 (30:55):
I'll take him. I'll take him on my team. So
that's that's the that's the reason behind trade. And then
for the most part, that is it. It's the Castillo
for Schwarber and Bolm. But then I was thinking to
get to Munio's. I was thinking, all right, they might
want a little bit more. Yeah, maybe need me to
sweeten this a little bit more. And for a team

(31:16):
trying to win, Now, what's a nice little complimentary couple
of pieces to throw into this deal?

Speaker 4 (31:23):
Right?

Speaker 9 (31:24):
I I'm very hesitant. I love Andreis Munnos just as
a picture.

Speaker 4 (31:29):
I love Luis.

Speaker 9 (31:30):
I loved Castillo too.

Speaker 4 (31:32):
One of my favorite people on the team too. He's
such a sweetheart. He's such a good young man.

Speaker 9 (31:36):
Saying with Castillo too, like very fun to be around,
like there's no issues whatsoever. He's a great locker in presence,
he's so fun to root for. He's a great picture.
So it's hard for me to be okay, like mentally
with this.

Speaker 4 (31:51):
I wonder if.

Speaker 1 (31:53):
Breaking news and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (31:56):

Speaker 9 (34:56):
Radio instead of giving up Castio ann munios. And then
actually no, And now that I think about it, I
was thinking, maybe you do only one of like Gilbert
or Kirby and then get those two guys. That way,
because of the value of the contract, you're sweetening it
more without having to give up two players.

Speaker 4 (35:16):
But that's taken on a lot of salary, which.

Speaker 9 (35:19):
They won't do. So and now that I say that,
I don't see that happening. But I think this is
a big question for Jerry and Justin and I don't
know the answer, to be honest, if the best route
for this team to be successful is to stick with
what they have has made them somewhat successful up to
this point and be the best pitching team in MLB

(35:42):
and then just try and be average offensively, or you
maybe take a couple of ticks down from that pitching,
at least the ceiling of that pitching, and then have
at least an average offensive team. Because I think if
this goes through, you have the veteran presence of Justin,
you have a little bit of an upgrade of Lamont

(36:02):
Way junior over Dom Canzone that can play first base,
some more lefty pop bringing Kyle Schwarber. I also think
Kyle Schwarber is a great veteran presence, excellent. He's gonna
be really helping those young guys with here's the word
again approach. This is what we look for and what
it takes to be a winner exactly. He's been in
the playoffs almost every single year he's been in the MLB,

(36:24):
and not to mention the World Series a couple times.
So he's the real deal. I love Kyle Schwarber, and
I think Alec Bohlm has the pieces to be that
good too, especially if you can get the most out
of his defensive work at third base. I just don't
know if the best way for this team to be
successful moving forward is to totally shift their roster in

(36:47):
that way. I wish we didn't have to give up
something to get to that point. I wish we could
just add and be like, all right, well, now we
have a good offense and still have the best pitching
in the MLB, right, But that's not realistic.

Speaker 4 (36:58):
And I see what you're thinking.

Speaker 7 (36:59):
Here's here's my response to that, because and I mean
this is all honesty, because I've I've backed this roster
two years in a row, predicting it to make the
playoffs and then being dangerous in the postseason, but we
didn't get to the playoffs. If you're saying I can't
trade a starting pitcher, and I'm not saying you're Sara,

(37:20):
but anyone in general, if we can't trade a starting pitcher,
then you are endorsing what the organization did the last
two years full scale, Because theoretically, I agree with you
that this starting pitching is so flipping good that all
you need is an average offense and you're in the

(37:41):
playoffs and you're dangerous in the postseason. I thought the
organization each of the last two years put together produced
an average offense. They did their job and what should
have been an average offer talent wise. Yes, right, and
so just because the players failed to live up to
what's on the back of their baseball cards by not

(38:03):
being forget about, give me your career worst year. If
they would have done that, we were in the playoffs
a year ago. You had eight guys on your team
that had disastrous offensive season. I'll say seven. Rayley was fine,
Raleigh was fine. Seven guys who so underperformed what they

(38:26):
were supposed.

Speaker 9 (38:27):
To do, significantly under here and not.

Speaker 7 (38:29):
What the Mariners thought they were supposed to do, everyone
what everyone in baseball thought that they were supposed to do.
I mean, you have two or three guys like that
and you're.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
Upset they had seven of them. So I'm with you.
You should be able to win.

Speaker 7 (38:44):
They should have won the last two years at least
got into the playoffs and then see what you can
do with your starting pitching in a postseason format. So
I'm with you, But it hasn't worked two years in
a row. So are you going to try the same approach.
Are you going to do the exact same thing or
are you going to shake it up a little bit?
Are you going to say, we believe in Emerson Hancock

(39:06):
and that he can handle the five spot in a
phenomenal rotation even without Luis Castillo, and we can get
surer things, as I said earlier, not sure things, but
surer things than what you picked up a year ago
in Schwarber and Bohm versus Polonko and Garverer. Now you're

(39:27):
saying there's no way that our floor isn't adequate. Yeah,
I mean there's no way that we can be atrocious
adding these two guys to the middle of our order,
as long as we stay healthy.

Speaker 9 (39:40):
Yeah, And I'll even one up you on that. I
think Kyle s Forber is about as close to a
sure thing as you're gonna get.

Speaker 4 (39:46):
He is what he is.

Speaker 7 (39:47):
Yeah, he's already five to forty five homers. You're right,
he hit to forty last year. He's probably gonna hit
two tens.

Speaker 9 (39:53):
Yeah, But like people need to, he's a modern day
baseball player. He's not gonna worry about his batting average.
Look at how and he gets on base, and look
at his slugging percentage.

Speaker 7 (40:02):
And his home runs are not wall scrapers. He's not
going to be scared about him cold shirt. Yeah, he
played in Philly. He's not worried about playing in cold air,
coastal air. I mean, he's he's going to he's still
he's still going to hit your thirty five to forty
five home runs.

Speaker 9 (40:18):
And get on base close to a four hundred clip. Yeah,
which I think this team needs desperately.

Speaker 4 (40:22):
Yeah, but I get you.

Speaker 7 (40:24):
I hear you, like, I don't feel comfortable trading the
starting pitching and breaking up what they do best.

Speaker 4 (40:30):
That's what they're saying too. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (40:31):
I agree with that, but that's what they've done the
last two years to what I thought was at least
an effective level.

Speaker 4 (40:38):
Yeah, and it doesn't work. Get the job done. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (40:41):
And there's a couple ways I want to think about this.
We talked in our Mariners forty seventh Annual. Mariners One
invited the World Series podcast, which, by the way, is
up on almost every page here on KJR. It's on
Chuck and Buck Morning page, It's on the Anders Mariners
Weekly page. It's also on Ian Farness's podcast page. Because
the Molliwop boys joined us.

Speaker 4 (41:02):
And we got along all right.

Speaker 9 (41:03):
Well, yeah, weirdly enough, I didn't have to stand in
the middle between you guys because they weren't in the room,
that's true. But Nathan Bishop didn't make a really good point.
And yes, the Mariners probably have the best pitching overall
in Major League Baseball? How valuable is that? Now? If
you were to choose one area to be the best

(41:25):
in between offense, bullpen pitching, and I guess you can
throw defense in there as well, or just we'll say
line up, I would argue, I think lineup is becoming,
especially the last couple of years, more important than starting pitching,
especially in the regular season.

Speaker 4 (41:44):
Yeah, regular season, I agree with you, in.

Speaker 9 (41:46):
Order even in the postseason. The two teams that were
in the World Series didn't have lights out starting rotations.

Speaker 7 (41:54):
And yet guess what got them there. It was their pitching.
And they didn't for it to be that way. Now,
they planned for their team to be an offensive juggernaut
that could not be stopped by any pitching group ever assembled.
But what got them there is that the San Diego Padres,
who were up in the series, somehow got shut out

(42:15):
in back to back games by a myriad of cheap
pitchers who did not perform near to that level during
the regular season. Same thing happened to the Rangers the
year before. They were an offensive baseball team that got
into the playoffs.

Speaker 4 (42:29):
And no, they didn't win the division.

Speaker 7 (42:32):
They got into the playoffs because of their offense. But
what won the World Series for them? For some reason,
douchebags like Jason Spores and jose Leclurk and all of
these dudes that got lit up during the regular season.

Speaker 8 (42:50):
Couldn't be touched.

Speaker 7 (42:51):
Yeah, so you can't predict that, But what you can
do is try to try to fail safe your way
to creating Like if we could put together a good
enough bullpen, this is what the Dodgers did that you know,
you know, at least if our offense isn't going.

Speaker 4 (43:08):
Can they step up? And they stepped up. I'm with you.

Speaker 7 (43:13):
Susan made the same argument and the other podcast that
we did, the Players Only podcast with him and Bucky,
and I'm with you. I think offense is the way
to get yourself into the playoffs, and then pitching in
defense and particularly bullpens, yeah, is the way to win
in the playoffs. The Dodgers were amazingly constructed, best team

(43:34):
money can buy. But the only reason that they won
the World Series is because when they weren't hitting, they
weren't allowing any runs. And not with any household names.
Tyler Glasnow is on the injured list. You know, their
entire pitching staff was on the injured list. Tony Goslin
was on the injured list. They won, or yeah, they

(43:57):
won because weird guys, weird dudes that hadn't shown up
for years, weren't allowing any runs. Right, That's the only
reason they advanced past the Padres, and it's the only
reason that they won the NLCS and then the World Series.

Speaker 4 (44:12):
The offense Freddy Freeman stepped up.

Speaker 9 (44:14):
Yeah, yeah, and I so, I guess you can look
at it the opposite way too, where I think offense
is you're more likely to get over performances, especially in
the playoffs, from the pitching side than you are the
offensive side. I think that used to be the opposite
about ten years ago, maybe five, six, seven years ago,

(44:36):
where you could have random guys from like the Cardinals
and the Giants when they were going they had random
offensive players stepped up. The Hunter Pences of the world,
the David Freezes of the world, right, Cody Ross exactly,
Marko Scooter Yeah, right, So I think it's shifted from
random offensive guys stepping up. Now you get random pitching

(44:57):
guys stepping up. And it's the offensive lineups that have
been doing it all year continue to do it. But
you just need that one lightning in a bottle coming
from the pitching site on.

Speaker 7 (45:06):
The Major League postseason is just a crap show. Yeah,
I mean, that's face it. I mean it is who
gets hot at the right time. That's why I said,
all he's got to get there. I just want to
get into the tournament.

Speaker 9 (45:15):
So what gets you there?

Speaker 4 (45:16):
Offense?

Speaker 7 (45:17):
Yes, trying to improve the offense. Yes, So to me,
if you're sitting there saying you can't win with the
four starting pitchers that you have remaining, if you were
to trade Castiel, you're out.

Speaker 4 (45:28):
Of your mind. Yeah, because the Dodgers. Maybe the Dodgers
are a bad example, but because of how much money
that they spent. Yeah, but I mean the Mariners. Last year,
the Dodgers use seventeen starting pitchers, the Mariners use seven.

pitching better than they had all year long.

Speaker 4 (49:07):
When the season ended. Yeah, were that Dodgers ended up
with They didn't even have a starting pitcher to go
in Game three of the playoffs. Yeah, they had to
go to a bullpen game with their season on the line.
That's how.

Speaker 7 (49:22):
That's how crazy the postseason is in Major League Baseball.
You can't just think that we got to have a
World Series team. No, you have to have a playoff team. Yeah,
build a playoff team and then worry about the wonky
ass tournament when you get there.

Speaker 4 (49:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (49:38):
And I think we've said the last three years, if
the Marriers get there, they're one of the most dangerous
teams in the playoffs because of their pitching. I think
this hurt this trade would have hurt that a little bit,
but I still think this would give you a better
chance to get there because of the offensive floor of
your team. Now, I agree, and I've talked myself do it.

(50:01):
It's it's hard for me because Castume and Munos are
probably my two favorite players in the team, two of mine,
and I it would hurt me to get rid of them,
But I think I would do this trade.

Speaker 4 (50:12):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (50:13):
Let me explain the Munyo's thing really quickly because and
I hate say this about.

Speaker 4 (50:16):
Him, but this is Stove Podcasts and we get to
get we get to go off here.

Speaker 7 (50:21):
I think Andre's Munyos has been outstanding, and he had
There were times last year where we talked about whether
or not he was the MVP.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
Of the team orderline the MVP last year.

Speaker 7 (50:30):
Yeah, but they used him more than they've used him.

Speaker 4 (50:35):
He led the league in.

Speaker 7 (50:36):
Four out plus saves. He was starting to run out
of gas in September.

Speaker 9 (50:44):
Did the same thing in twenty twenty three as well,
after they traded Paul seawalld.

Speaker 7 (50:48):
He he barely got through the year with all the
injuries that he was dealing with. I kind of, and
I hate to say this, Please forgive.

Speaker 9 (50:58):
Me for cent give me Lord, for I watched.

Speaker 7 (51:01):
Matt Brash the year before and I'm like, he's gonna
get hurt next year. Yeah, And that's kind of.

Speaker 4 (51:06):
The way I feel with Monyos. Maybe me saying it
reverses it, you know what I'm saying, Because he does
not have the best body in the world. You've seen
him up close.

Speaker 7 (51:18):
He's twenty four years old and he's a little sloppy,
so he's he's not the greatest at taking care of
his body.

Speaker 9 (51:25):
Pitchers are weird like that sometimes.

Speaker 7 (51:27):
And now he's been overused to a degree. So I'm
a little worried about that.

Speaker 4 (51:33):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (51:33):
Now Phillies know this as well, yep. But the idea
behind it is the Phillies are so hell bent on
Wait a minute, we got Bryce Harper in his prime,
we I win a championship right now?

Speaker 4 (51:43):
What the effort we doing that? They'll take the All
Star closer.

Speaker 7 (51:48):
And the All Star starter to add there. They're already
impressive starting rotation. Then we're gonna go pay for offense
Bregman whoever, Yeah, to add to the offense to make
up for the slack that we just lost. They have
that ability and the willingness.

Speaker 4 (52:03):
To spend that kind of money. Yes.

Speaker 7 (52:05):
Meanwhile, we say, all right, well, if you want our
All Star closer coming off his best year making only
three million dollars, then we want Keckering because I think
Keckering is on the verge of becoming the better picture
of the two anyway.

Speaker 9 (52:18):
Really, Okay, that's a hot take, because uh, he old
is a twenty three.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
Yeah, he numbers weren't too different. This past year.

Speaker 9 (52:27):
Wasn't different, but he was in a different role. He
wasn't their closer.

Speaker 7 (52:29):
True, I'm not necessarily saying he's going to be the closure,
right but him brash back Santos, I think you can
and and Woodworth's success with finding gems, I think that
you can still put together a representative bullpen and you
still have a great rotation even without Castillo.

Speaker 4 (52:51):
Nobody's got the four guys that we have.

Speaker 9 (52:53):
I'm not super high on it. Maybe the Phillies now, yeah, yeah, seriously, no, yeah,
because they already have kids starting pitching, Zach Wheeler and
Nolan Now. I had Luis Castillo, that would be and
Christopher Sanchez. Maybe that would be a really really good team.

Speaker 4 (53:07):
They are really good. Yeah, that started of not winning
a champions Yeah.

Speaker 9 (53:11):
Yeah, they want to go all in. I'm with you. Yeah,
it's it's weird because that would change their kind of
put a roster makeup as well, because that's Schwarber's a
big part of that team. He's a huge part of
that team and it has been for the last three years. So,
but they would be more like, no, we want to

(53:32):
we need to go all in on the pitching. We
need to have the best pitching in baseball. Yeah, I'm
with you. I I buy it, I do it. It's
really hard for me to be okay with getting rid
of those guys, but I think I'd do it. I
I think having a at least average offensive team is

(53:56):
important in this year, especially, not have one.

Speaker 4 (54:00):
No, we can't do that again. We can't waste this pitching. Nothing.
It's been wasted two years in a row.

Speaker 9 (54:08):
It has been and if for nothing else, for no
other reason. And I know this is kind of stupid,
but this is the fan speaking from me. Give us
some entertainment. I know people can be okay with watching
really good starting pitching every single night.

Speaker 4 (54:20):
That's great. That gives you a chance to win in
the playoffs, YadA, YadA, YadA.

Speaker 6 (54:23):
But let's see some offense.

Speaker 9 (54:25):
Oh my god, let's entertain the Seattle fans and not
be all pissed off about what their approach looks like
and striking out too many times and that's still probably yeah,
and just having those frustrations all summer is I can't
do that again.

Speaker 7 (54:39):
Not sit here and wait for the sacrifice fly that
doesn't come. Let's hit one two feet.

Speaker 4 (54:45):
Over the wall.

Speaker 9 (54:45):
Yeah, thank you, Yeah, thank you. I'm with you on that.
So for that reason alone, I think I'd be in
on that. But I think this helps your team get
to that postseason spot, and who knows what can happen.

Speaker 7 (54:56):
I knew that it was gonna be a bit controversy, yeah,
but I just would say to everybody else. I mean,
I get that a lot of Mariner fans are out
there and they just want them to spend.

Speaker 4 (55:05):
I just don't operate in this world. I mean I
want them too as well. It's realistic.

Speaker 7 (55:10):
You and I every year we'll talk about Sodo and
you'll fit with the Mariners on what it would take
to get him at some point this offseason. But the
truth of the matter is, I'm trying to give you
a realistic outlook. I mean, you guys that have lived
with this ownership for forty years keep expecting them to
change overnight. I've been here ten years. I figured this
out nine years ago. Okay, they're not going to change

(55:33):
their strikes and they're not going to sell and they're
not going to sell. So where we're at, I think
they will add a little bit to payroll, but we're
going to have to rely on some creative moves in
order to get you over the top. And it can
be done. This team's not that far away from winning
a championship. No matter how many times you've convinced yourself
in the last two years that they're terrible, I'm here

(55:55):
to tell you they're a successful move or two away
from winning the whole damn thing.

Speaker 4 (56:02):
Yeah, and I agree with you.

Speaker 9 (56:04):
It's just it's we're also a successful move or two
away from being a playoff team, which, as we've said before,
if you're in, who knows what can happen?

Speaker 4 (56:12):
Right, So that's all I'm trying to get done. Yeah,
it's in the tournament.

Speaker 9 (56:14):
Yeah, all right, let's let's move on to the next
move here. We spent a lot of time on that one,
but I think that was worth kind of diving in
a little bit. On Monday December twenty third, I was.

Speaker 4 (56:25):
Thinking about hiring Liamnes Great.

Speaker 6 (56:30):
Monday December twenty third, the headline reads, Santa delivers a
second Sacker.

Three years, twenty four million for Infielder High Song, Kim.

Speaker 4 (59:48):
You said it the right way, Hi song very important.

Speaker 9 (59:51):
There's two different Kims that sound very similar, that pay
the same position, that are from the same country. This
is high song him, the one from Korea that played
in Korea last year. Yes, so I'd rather have Ha
Soong Okay place to the padres right now. I think
he played last year. I really like it.

Speaker 4 (01:00:08):
I like him too.

Speaker 7 (01:00:09):
Any play and we already know he can play at
this level. He had a little bit of a down
season this year because he had some injury stuff that
popped up with him, but the year before he was
in the MVP conversation until he had a bad September
and then he kind of and he was the Padres
MVP two years ago when they made the playoffs. For
goodness sake, I that's the one I prefer. The only

(01:00:30):
reason I went with High Song is because of the
salary and again trying to be realistic on what they're
going to be willing to do. If Hasong is asking
for fifteen million a year and High Songs offering asking
for eight, then to me, the Mariners will probably.

Speaker 4 (01:00:47):
Go with the eight. Yeah. Right.

Speaker 7 (01:00:49):
So I've not seen Hi Song Kim play at all,
but what I have witnessed is Korean baseball players getting
better every single year, and so Kim to me, is
very indicative if this guy follows in his footsteps. If
he follows in his footsteps, by the way, he's going
to struggle his first year here, which is a little disconcerting.

(01:01:11):
But the idea of I love that Asian ballplayer grit
that we talked about at the beginning of the show.

Speaker 4 (01:01:19):
I mean, they're going to give you one hundred percent. Yeah,
all right. I like fundamentals putting the ball in play.

Speaker 7 (01:01:25):
It was important last year when we made a big
deal out of it, and we just didn't do it.
We just struck out more than what we did the
previous year. But the philosophy behind it was sound. We
got to get the ball and play more. We got
to make more things happen on the bass pass. So
this guy's known for being a contact hitter, known for
some speed, a little bit of pop, played multiple defensive

(01:01:47):
positions at a pretty high level. And so to me,
that's your next attempt at solving the mystery of who's
going to play second base well for the Seattle Mayor.
It's been a long time since we've been able to
pinpoint that guy.

Speaker 9 (01:02:03):
Yeah, I don't like if. Similar to you, I don't
know a ton about him. I can't judge on if
I think he's going to be good in the MLB
or not. We just don't know. It's also similar to you,
I'd rather have the proven Kim.

Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:02:17):
He'd probably cost more, but you know that he's a
good Major League baseball player already.

Speaker 4 (01:02:22):
Let's get him.

Speaker 7 (01:02:22):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:02:23):
But yeah, i'd be found with that too.

Speaker 6 (01:02:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:02:25):
Uh, but I'm good with taking a shot here. I think.
I think it's been well documented that the Mariners have
wanted an Asian posted player for the last couple of years.
I think they really wanted to Massa Taka Yoshida a
couple of years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
All right, let's get Sasaki.

Speaker 9 (01:02:45):
Yeah, why not? There you go, Let's let's replace the
least castillo you're feeling. I am, yeah, probably not realistic,
but I mean, why not?

Speaker 4 (01:02:57):
Why not?

Speaker 9 (01:02:58):
I'm in well, I'm in on that. I this one,
I don't know that. I just don't know this one
combined with the next one, actually the next two, I
should say, I'm not sure about it's you'd be doing

(01:03:18):
some unknowns because I think with our offense, what we've
been doing is kind of trading away unknowns with dom
can zone and then filling in pieces. When you're trading
away starting pitching for known commodities on offense, and you
know that what they're going to bring is going to
be okay at this ballpark, which we know makes everyone

(01:03:39):
struggle for whatever reason, in this system, which we know
makes everyone struggle for whatever reason, this one is questionable,
and he probably ninety percent successful, ninety percent sure he'll
bring good above average defense at least, But you just
don't know about the hitting, and I don't know if
that's something I want to do, especially if you need

(01:04:04):
to do the next thing.

Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
Well, what is the other Yeah? Yeah, what's the other option?

Speaker 6 (01:04:07):
Though?

Speaker 7 (01:04:08):
At second base you're gonna put you know, Louis Revos,
Leo Rivas there.

Speaker 9 (01:04:13):
Josh Rojass played that two years ago.

Speaker 7 (01:04:16):
I haven't moved him. No, yeah, I didn't move in
the crystal ball. He's not on my roster, but I haven't.
I haven't moved him at this point. So to me,
this is a little bit of the gamble of maybe
I can get some upside ye this. Yeah, and I
absolutely have to have the defense. I mean, that's the
dirty little secret about Polonco, is that not he was
so disappointing defensive or offensively that it it sucked to

(01:04:44):
point out how terrible he was defensively. But I kind
of knew he wasn't going to be any good so defensively,
as a matter of fact, I spent some time, if
you remember, in hot Stove, thinking that he could be
some d h sometimes because I didn't want him on
the field all the time. No, yeah, you're right, So
I knew he was bad defensively, I didn't know he
was at he was atrocious last year defensively and then
never did add the offense.

Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
And so this is a little bit of gamble. It
could be a.

Speaker 7 (01:05:08):
Year in which he really struggles. Like I said, I'd
rather have Hasan Kim, the more proven player, but I
at least have to have a solid defense, a second base.

Speaker 4 (01:05:19):
I at least have to get that out of this
player this year.

Speaker 9 (01:05:21):
We Leo Revos brings that. Josh Rojas proved that he
did that as well for the half a year he
still in the organization.

Speaker 4 (01:05:29):
So may the best man win the position.

Speaker 8 (01:05:31):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:05:32):
The one thing that worries me about this is having
to do the next thing, and that is.

Speaker 6 (01:05:38):
Wednesday, January fifteenth, the headline reads.

Speaker 4 (01:05:42):
You're about to be taken.

Speaker 9 (01:05:44):
Crawford sent packing. Mariners trade shortstop JP Crawford to LA
Dodgers the right relief pitcher Anthony Banda. And all I'm
going to say is, if if we had to do
this because we signed I sunk Kim to the free

(01:06:05):
agent contract, I would rather do neither than both.

Speaker 4 (01:06:11):
If that makes sense.

Speaker 7 (01:06:11):
You have Crawford, yes, I would, I guess I'm okay
with that. I get the point that you're bringing to
the table. If you don't do one, then you don't
have to do the.

Speaker 9 (01:06:24):
Other exactly, because this is a salary dumb, clear salary,
full on salary dumb.

Speaker 7 (01:06:28):
Yeah, and so that's you believing that I've seen enough
of JP Crawford that I think he can have a
bounce back. Because I'm gonna tell you something right now.
He was terrible his past year.

Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
He's very bad.

Speaker 7 (01:06:42):
And it wasn't just the batting average this is Bucky.

Speaker 4 (01:06:48):
It was the approach. Yeah, it was like, what are you?
What happened to you? How could you have that good
of a year the year before?

Speaker 9 (01:06:55):
And his approach was insane, perfect, perfect.

Speaker 4 (01:06:58):
Approach, And then all of a sudden, you come back
the next year and you're just swinging from the heels.
You're not a home run hitter. What are you doing.

Speaker 7 (01:07:09):
I think he's a good guy. Yeah, I think he's
a very liked person in that clubhouse.

Speaker 4 (01:07:15):
But he's getting slower every year. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:07:18):
He actually had a little bit of a bounce back
defensively according to the metrics this past season. But he
doesn't have great range because even though when he gets
the speed up.

Speaker 4 (01:07:27):
He's fast, he's one of he's not quick. Yeah, he's
not quick. It's so maybe it's the dreadlocks. I get
what you're saying.

Speaker 7 (01:07:35):
And fine, you don't go and get a free agent
second basement for eight dollars and you just go ahead
and keep your short stop at eleven million dollars. But
I'm ready to try something different. Yeah, and that's sort
of the impetus behind this.

Speaker 4 (01:07:47):
I'm open to it. Yeah, so I need to.

Speaker 7 (01:07:50):
We know they're going to do a salary dump trade
this offseason. You know, if they can't get rid of
Hanneger or Garver, which they're not going to be able to,
then the next guy in lines eleven million dollars for
a P.

Speaker 4 (01:08:00):
Crawford. And so don't look at this as what did
we get back? Who cares? It's a salary dome.

Speaker 7 (01:08:06):
We just got a left handed reliever because we really
don't have one in the organization worth of damn.

Speaker 9 (01:08:10):
It's the same thing with the Suarez thing last year,
like everyone looked at, oh, you traded a Suarez for
a backup catcher. That's not what you traded for. You
traded Sarez for Jope Polonco basically exactly because the Twins
salary dumped him to you. So man meant you were
taking on money. But it's the money that you got

(01:08:31):
rid of for a so I always think of for
Jee Polonko. That's basically in terms of the trade.

Speaker 7 (01:08:37):
Yeah, absolutely, But in hindsight, yeah don't really don't.

Speaker 9 (01:08:44):
But you know, but that's how it works. It's all
about the value that you're giving away. And you're not
going to get anything value for giving away JP.

Speaker 4 (01:08:52):
Coff, you're not, you're not.

Speaker 7 (01:08:53):
And and I picked the Dodgers because they're an organization
that just prints money and they need a short stuff,
they need a short stuffy. So and I think JP's
going to fit in any clubhouse. I think he's a
really likable guy.

Speaker 9 (01:09:04):
He's going to hit two seventies twenty home runs.

Speaker 7 (01:09:06):
Okay, all right, okay, you said that I convinced you
on the previous one. Maybe you convinced me. Yeah, you
want to give JP another shot? Yeah, fine, we'll give it.
But now I'm adding six million dollars to the payroll
as opposed to three. So oh no, burn down the
house still another half backborn room.

Speaker 4 (01:09:31):
Might be too rich for there blood. But I'm I
like JP. You know.

Speaker 7 (01:09:37):
Yeah, And I said this five years ago when people
were or four years ago and people were trying to
run him out of town.

Speaker 4 (01:09:42):
You can win a World Series with JP Crawford.

Speaker 9 (01:09:44):
He should be your nine hitter.

Speaker 4 (01:09:46):
So, yes, he should be your nine hitter. I'm not
expecting him to bounce back to where he was in
twenty twenty three.

Speaker 9 (01:09:52):
He won't be as bad as last year, but he.

Speaker 7 (01:09:54):
Won't be as bad as last year. So but I
need that middle ground to be a lot closer to
twenty twenty three then twenty twenty four. So if you
think he's capable of that, and you want to bring
him back at eleven million dollars and not Mott, sign
one of my kims, then one.

Speaker 9 (01:10:08):
Of your kims. Yeah, you own both of them. I'm
open to it. Honestly, you have to do one of
the other. I mean, obviously you just have to have
something at shortstop. I think we can get to the
next one in a second. I would be open to
either one. I just think.

Speaker 2 (01:10:27):

Speaker 9 (01:13:31):
It's a little more of a known commodity what you
have with JP Crawford than High Song Kim. And I
think there's a better chance that JP Crawford has a
better twenty twenty five than Hi Song Kim because you mentioned, like, okay,
if he follows the same career path as Haw Song Kim,
which it's unfair to put someone who has a similar
name as like the same player, but it's hard. They

(01:13:55):
play the same position.

Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
One hits left hand and one hits right.

Speaker 9 (01:13:57):
Okay, good, okay, perfectly, we found a different so yeah,
besides the why, but I still think that there's a
better chance that Crawford bounces back closer to what he
was in twenty twenty three than high song. Kim comes
and you know, kind of shoots it right off the bat, but.

Speaker 4 (01:14:12):
Now we don't have Anthony Banda. It spanks a lot.

Speaker 9 (01:14:15):
Geez ah man another relief pitcher. Well, let's let's go
to the next one, because I think you can do
either one with those two. But the next one is
is another kind of bigger discussion.

Speaker 4 (01:14:25):
Here.

Speaker 6 (01:14:27):
Thursday, January sixteenth, the headline reads Mariner's Reroute Randy Rose
Arena trade.

Speaker 9 (01:14:35):
The Mariners send outfield or Randy Rose Arena to the
Chicago Cubs for middle infielder Nico Horner. I know you've
been wanting Horner for the last couple of years. Now,
I am not as convinced as you are. I know
what he brings defensively, and that kind of really ups
his value. He's a little hit or miss with the offense,
and I think Randy, if put in a better offense

(01:14:59):
around him, would thrive personally. I know he's frustrating for
some Mariner fans, but tell me what you think about
trading Randy Roserena for Nico Horner.

Speaker 7 (01:15:07):
Well, I'll start by saying this because the word reroute,
that's why I used it in the story, was used
and it made everybody panic. Now, if re routing means
salary dump, I don't want to do it.

Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
It's not that.

Speaker 7 (01:15:19):
If re routing means we've gotten to watch this guy
play with our group and we can't take this anymore,
and so let's trade him and flip him for a
player of comparable financial value and maybe comparable on field
value that.

Speaker 4 (01:15:35):
Just fits our needs more.

Speaker 7 (01:15:38):
And let's face it just helps us win baseball games.
I think Nico Horner helps you win baseball games even
without the home runs that he hits. And look, if
we're going to talk about analytics and wars, not a
perfect statistic, He's ad a thirteen war over the last
three years, Randy rose Arena has had an eight. Yeah, okay,
So to me, he's just the better player, whether he's

(01:16:02):
as fantastic or he you know, his showman ship leaves
something to be desired unlike a rose Arena, or he
can't get on one of those Rose Arena tears like
we saw a couple of years ago. Yeah, he might
not be capable of that, but over the aggregate, over
one hundred and sixty two games, the little things that
this guy does. I remember I said, I want a

(01:16:24):
grittier team this year. I don't want guys who hit
third in the order, stepping out of the batter's box
on two O pitches. I want somebody that wants to
drill a two to oh fastball between the eyes of
the pitcher. Yeah, because he hits the ball so hard
up the middle, Horner's going to put the ball in play.
There are no analytics out there, there's no teaching, no
instruction that's going to screw that up. He does not

(01:16:45):
strike out, and he plays great defense whether you put
him at second base or whether you put him at shortstop.
So no, this is not the flashiest guy to have
on your roster, But this roster needs more substance.

Speaker 4 (01:16:58):
And I think Nico Horner day in and day out.

Speaker 7 (01:17:01):
Now, I got him with Shober, and I got him
with Raleigh, and I got him with Rayley, and I
got him now, I got him with Roblaze playing with
his hair on fire. I got guys that want to
win out there on the baseball field and not just
try to make highlights by stepping out of the batter's
box so I can ambush a three to zero fastball

(01:17:22):
one time I try it out of twenty.

Speaker 9 (01:17:24):
Yeah. I understand the frustration with Randy, I really do.
I still believe he's a higher end player, especially offensively,
which I think this team needs to keep on their team.
It reminds me a little bit of when you know,
there was frustration around Taoscar Hernandez and what he was
bringing in just watching his at bats. Maybe not to
the same extent as Randy, but watching his at bats

(01:17:46):
was just a chore for a lot of Mariners fans.
But he had the upside and giving up on him
so quickly after you traded for him it turned out
to be not a great move.

Speaker 4 (01:17:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:18:00):
Similar with au Heno Suarez. I know a lot of
people actually liked au Heniel Suarez, but.

Speaker 7 (01:18:04):
I liked him a lot, I know, and he don't
like Randy Rosie, right, I mean, at least the way
he plays.

Speaker 9 (01:18:09):
Like the way he plays, I still think I would
rather keep the higher end talent, especially like again, especially offensively,
which I think is more important for this team, and
especially if you kept JP Crawford, then you could fill
in the holes in the middle endfield and I want
to keep the bigger bat. Now, not that Nico Horner
isn't a great hitter, He's a league average hitter. Uh

(01:18:29):
ops plus the past four years one O one, one
O two, one oh five, one O six and one
on one and one O two are the last two years.
So he's a league average hitter. Puts the ball in play,
doesn't strike out, doesn't walk, plays very good shortstop defense,
which I think is where a lot of his value
comes from in terms of his war and that's where

(01:18:52):
you would be getting him for. So if you are
getting rid of JP Crawford, then I think, yes, you
need to sign do something to get Nico Horner. I
would be reluctant to give up Randy. I still think
he's gonna have a bounce back year. And not even
that he was bad. He had a one eighteen ops
plus with the Mariners, which means he was eighteen percent
above ly.

Speaker 4 (01:19:09):
Yeah, which is a.

Speaker 9 (01:19:11):
Man may not have been the most beautiful thing to
watch on earth. He wasn't a guy that would get
his you know, jersey dirty every single day. I mean,
he made some good catches in left field. But he's
not a great fielder either.

Speaker 4 (01:19:25):
Not a good one, No, not even an average one.

Speaker 9 (01:19:28):
So I I still would be willing to bet on
the Maybe it's the hindsight of a similar vibe with
ta Oscar Hernandez, where I was like, all right, I'm
done with you, you can go move on. Yeah, and then
look what he does the next year. I'm I'm willing
to take one more year of Randy since you've already
committed to that in terms of financially, They've they picked

(01:19:51):
up his option.

Speaker 4 (01:19:54):
I guess what did he have an option? No, he
was arbitration. Okay, arbitration for one more year.

Speaker 9 (01:19:59):
Yeah, So I just think I would give Randy one
more year before I kind of gave up on him.
And if even if not one more year, one more
half a year, and if you needed to train him
at the deadline, you can do that.

Speaker 7 (01:20:13):
But I've had the most pushback probably on this. Yeah,
and and but I just think that's somebody that I
think those are people that just love the extra base hits,
and he's just gonna he's gonna get more than Nico
Horner's gonna hit more home runs. He's gonna hit more doubles.

Speaker 4 (01:20:32):
I think this team needs some slug in it.

Speaker 7 (01:20:34):
Not now that I have schwarburn boem on it fair,
no big picture fair. Uh So to me, I think
Nico Horner is just the better player and he helps
you win baseball games. And that's all I'm after, you know,
And I don't care if somebody you know, it's such
a showman that they ride a pony out the left

(01:20:55):
field between innings. If you produce he was.

Speaker 4 (01:20:59):
Okay, he was okay.

Speaker 7 (01:21:01):
But over the course of the last three years, Horner's
been the better play not the better hitter, the better player, right,
uh than what a Rose arena is. And I think
you need more guys like Horner, I really do. I
mean to have those three base running gaffs and those
three days, I mean, was just embarrassing.

Speaker 4 (01:21:21):
Did Randy have any of them? It was Julio and
Julio Roeblis, there was one other. I think Julio twice.
Was it Julio twice? There was something yeah, I think
it was. Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:21:31):
But anyway, so that's just the mentality of it. And
plus I want Raley to play. Yeah, I want Raley
to play. I got Roblaze and left I got Julio
and center, I got Raley and right field. Not platooning
this year. I know he doesn't hit lefties as well,
but he does those little things that help you win games.
And if I really face a really tough lefty, I mean,

(01:21:53):
that's what Dylan Moore is for, to come in and
spell for a start, as opposed to playing every day
like he did a year ago.

Speaker 4 (01:22:02):
So that's the idea behind that.

Speaker 9 (01:22:05):
I see you're thinking, I am a little more reluctant
to do that. I think if you're gonna do get
rid of him to make someone else play, it has
to be for a better player than Luke Raley. Now
I realized Luke Raley had a really good year last year,
and he's fun to watch. He's a good middle to
lower batting order guy. I two, get rid of one

(01:22:31):
of your objectively more talented players in Randia Rose Arena,
just to have someone else be able to play, and
not just that, because you obviously would be Gettingnika Horner
in return. And theoretically, if you didn't have JP Crawford,
you need someone to play shortstop. All the pieces kind
of moved together, I think overall, with all of these moves.
That makes a ton of sense, and I would be

(01:22:54):
doing that. I would still feel a little icky about it.
I still think he's going to have a bounce back year.
I think he's going to bring a lot to this
offense specifically.

Speaker 4 (01:23:07):
I think him and you.

Speaker 7 (01:23:08):
Would rather have a Rose Arena Crawford and Revos.

Speaker 4 (01:23:16):
You would rather have that than Horner, Rayley and Kim.

Speaker 9 (01:23:22):
Yes, and you still have for yours, you still have
Rojas to bring it off the bench, YadA, YadA, YadA.

Speaker 4 (01:23:28):
For me, I still have Relely. It's not like you're
getting rid of Ralely.

Speaker 8 (01:23:31):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:23:32):
You can platoon him in any spots everywhere. But yeah,
in terms of just moving pieces around, Yes, I like
the first group.

Speaker 4 (01:23:38):
Better look at that lineup. Look at that. It's a
great lineup.

Speaker 9 (01:23:41):
I I And honestly, I'm not saying because I don't
like Nico Horner. I think he is about as steady
as a baseball player as there is. You know exactly
what you're going to get from him every single time,
which is one of the reasons I really liked Heno
Suarez as well. You knew exactly what he was going
to bring every single day. He's going to strike out breaking.

Speaker 1 (01:24:00):
News and this one is almost unbelievable.

Speaker 9 (01:27:04):
But he's gonna play great defense, he's gonna hit thirty
home runs plus, and he's gonna be a great clubhouse guy.

Speaker 4 (01:27:09):
Right.

Speaker 9 (01:27:09):
That's a Nico Horner. He's going to play amazing shortstop.
He's gonna or or second base. He's gonna put the
ball in play and steel bases, steel bases, and he's
gonna play hard. Yeah, So that's him I every day.
He's not going to give you more than that. He's
not gonna be a eight hundred oh ps guy ever,

(01:27:31):
He's not going to be a twenty home run guy ever.
He's you know, exactly what he's bringing every single day.
And I think there is value in that. I'm not
saying there's not. I just would be it's hard for
me to get rid of the upside. And again, a
lot of that is PRIs the hindsight of Mariners trying
trying to reposition a lot of their lineup, getting rid
of more talented players for less talented players because they

(01:27:52):
think they bring a higher floor.

Speaker 4 (01:27:54):
And I think that's kind of similar to what this
would be.

Speaker 9 (01:27:57):
But I think over as a as a full off season.

Speaker 4 (01:28:02):
I was an exercise.

Speaker 9 (01:28:04):
Yeah, I would be happy with that.

Speaker 11 (01:28:05):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:28:06):
Again, a lot of this is from the lens of
I thought last year your crystal ball predictions and what
eventually turned out to be the off season was good
and I was excited and it didn't work out that
I know.

Speaker 4 (01:28:18):
So it's it's definitely a different approach.

Speaker 7 (01:28:20):
Yes, this is the middest shake up I've ever given
the crystal Ball. So a lineup of Horner, Roblace, Julio's,
Schoreber Bohm, Raleigh, Raleigh, Turner, Wade and Kim yep is
the lineup and still have a starting rotation of Gilbert, Kirby, Miller,

(01:28:41):
Wu and Hancock yep and a Bullpen Sands Munjos replaced
with Keckering with Santos and Brash returning from injury yep.
I think that's a more well rounded complete, can't miss.

Speaker 8 (01:28:55):
What do you?

Speaker 4 (01:28:56):
What are you with? Handger? Wave him? Really? Yeah, just
eat the money. I mean you really? I mean.

Speaker 7 (01:29:04):
I like him, but he's when they pulled off the
trade last year and still I said, I don't like it.
And it's not because just because of the injury history.
I don't think he can play anymore. He can't play anymore.

Speaker 4 (01:29:18):
No, he can't leave.

Speaker 7 (01:29:18):
So and he's and even though there is some leadership
abilities with him, because he works so hard and he's
very consistent, and he's likable and he will I guess
according to what I've heard he'll tell a player if
the player's out of line. He's not afraid to tell
that player that he's, by his own admission, he's not

(01:29:39):
a leader.

Speaker 4 (01:29:39):
By example.

Speaker 7 (01:29:40):
Now you have a seventeen million dollar player that you're
just pinch hitting every once in a while to try
to find a time for him to play. I just
don't see. I think there's just a better way to
use that roster spot. And since you can't get rid
of the money, you might as well just eat it
and use.

Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
The roster spot better. Yeah, that's what I I would say.

Speaker 9 (01:30:00):
Yeah, and maybe that's a spot to call up one
of your youngsters.

Speaker 4 (01:30:04):
Yeah, you're already eating. You already got twelve with Garver.

Speaker 9 (01:30:07):
A lot of people are clamoring for Cole Young at
some point. Yeah, maybe not, maybe not to start the year,
but I think he might be ready mid year slash September,
So I don't know.

Speaker 4 (01:30:17):
We'll see what happens.

Speaker 7 (01:30:18):
I like it, even the bench, like you got turn
away to whoever's not starting. Yep, Garver's your backup catcher,
because that's that's the best role we can find for him.

Speaker 4 (01:30:26):
And that's fine at this point. One more year of
that and.

Speaker 7 (01:30:28):
Dylan Moore is your super utility guy, and then you're
choosing between row Os, Revos and Haggarty to fill the
other spot. And I think that's an improved bullpen a
I mean a bench overlash Well.

Speaker 9 (01:30:39):
And that's the other thing I think Without mun Yos,
this is a unknown on the bullpen side. You're putting
Keckering into a bigger role than he's used to.

Speaker 4 (01:30:50):
Now.

Speaker 9 (01:30:50):
I know the magic that Pete would work produces a lot,
so you expect if in any situation where that works
would be here. Hopefully Brash gets healthy, Hopefully Santos stays healthy.
I still think that's a shorter bullpen with a team
that you know, wins a lot of one run games.

(01:31:10):
But then again, this is a different roster construction than
what we've had the year before, so maybe we don't
have to rely on that as much moving forward.

Speaker 4 (01:31:17):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:31:18):
I like Troy Taylor, Yeah too last year. Okay, but
you're only really subtracting Munyos and you're adding Cockering. Yeah,
and if I end up having Cockering in June while
Munos is out with Tommy Jones, You're gonna be.

Speaker 4 (01:31:31):
Like, Wow, what a great decision that, Yeah, what.

Speaker 9 (01:31:35):
A great decision with great decision. All right, Well I
like the predictions. Yeah, I I look at that lineup,
there's fewer holes. I also think a little bit higher floor.
Especially the big one is Kyle Schwarber. For me, if
that weren't there, I would be a little worried.

Speaker 7 (01:31:55):
Uh.

Speaker 9 (01:31:55):
But then again, like he's he's about as sure thing
as you're gonna get MLB today. We could talk about
like line up position later at a different time. But
I like everyone at that spot. I like Victor Robos.
I think what he showed us last year is not
just a couple months less sure hope so lucky situation,

(01:32:15):
and that would be another reason to keep Randy, just
in case that isn't what we expect it to be.
For me, at least, it's tough to get rid of Castillo,
it's tough to get rid of Moods, and I still
it would be tough for me to get rid of Randy.
I'd be okay with getting rid of JP for Kim.
Either one of those could work, but I'd probably bet
on JP again. I just I really hope that this

(01:32:40):
team finds a way to get their offense going. That's
the that's the bottom line. Going forward, and I'm at
a point where I don't even know anymore. Without getting like,
without getting sure things where you know it's going to
be good, I can't trust anything else. And hopefully they
change their approach to where they can get the most
out of these younger players, right.

Speaker 7 (01:32:57):
And I would also say this because this is our
first episode Stove for this brand new year, and we
will I mean, we did this article and we spent
the entire time talking about it. But just a little
bit of news. I guess they're already talking to Carlos Santana.
Oh really, And that would.

Speaker 4 (01:33:13):
Not be a surprise to me at all. Okay, And
of course that.

Speaker 7 (01:33:16):
Brings a sledgehammer to either Wait or Turner or maybe both,
maybe both if they if they were to go down
that road.

Speaker 9 (01:33:22):
The Turner Carlos Santana platoon would be awesome. Two old
guys that are just playing first base. That would be
so great. We have an eighty year old first base.

Speaker 4 (01:33:33):
Come come bin. Yeah.

Speaker 9 (01:33:36):
So basically, yeah, all right, well, I uh, if you
guys want to check out the full article, it's on
our It's on our page on ninety three three nine
three three KJR dot com. You can find it under
the Chuck and Buck page. Chuck also posted it on
his Twitter, retweeted by the KJR account. You'll you'll find
it basically anywhere that you can look for it. I

(01:33:58):
recommend going through it and kind of really reading through
it without judgment. I mean, you can't judge if you
want it. It's the fun of it. But just have
some open mind with what mariners can do and what
they will do and what they're able to do. It's
kind of the three categories that you're looking at there.
Really quick, before we go, I want to dive in

(01:34:18):
for a few minutes about the Hall of Fame as
it's started, kind of the voting process. Now, two Mariners
are introduced in it, with Felix Hernandez and Eachiro Suzuki.
I don't know if they put the last name on
the ballot, but what are your thoughts. Do you think
Eachiro is a first ballot guy? Do you think he's

(01:34:40):
a unanimous guy. Do you think Felix Hernandez has a
shot to stand in the ballot? Do you think he
gets in.

Speaker 7 (01:34:47):
I'm gonna say each Row is in for sure on
first ballot, He's gonna fall short of unanimous but he'll
be in the upper nineties. I would think Felix will
stay on the ballot, but I really do doubt if
he'll get in. I think that he has a better
chance today because analytics is used so much more and

(01:35:11):
the analytics like him a lot, yeah than it used
to be, But he certainly is going to have to
wait a little while, yeah, that I know for sure.
The thing about historically with the Hall of Fame vote
is they tend to reward long careers of being good
too great versus short careers with greatness in them. Don

(01:35:34):
Mattingly's not in the Hall of Fame, which is a joke.
Dale Murphy's not in the Hall of Fame, which is
a joke. And I think Felix Hernandez was great for
nearly a decade and should be in the Hall of Fame.
But the way they've voted historically usually doesn't include guys
who stuck around for a long career but weren't that
effective in the last four to five years of that career.

(01:35:57):
So I think he's got his work cut out for
him getting in, But hopefully eventually he lands, because I
think he should.

Speaker 9 (01:36:03):
We had Jason Stark from the athletic on the Infnest
Show on Monday, and he mentioned that a lot of
he compares his career to Johan Santana, where there was
like a four or.

Speaker 7 (01:36:15):
Five year Fields was a little better longer, right than Santana.
Maybe maybe not, but with like four or five years
of one of the top two or three best pitchers
in baseball. Yeah, and if you look at from I
think there was a twenty ten to two thousand and
fifteen or two thousand and nine, two thousand, I don't know,

(01:36:35):
there was a stretch where best right hander was Felix
Snanda's best left handed with Clayton Kershaw, and it was
like not even close to either one of those.

Speaker 9 (01:36:43):
So I think he should get in. I think his
personality helps him. It sucks that he never had a
playoff run. That'll hurt him, but there's there's examples of
players that were in that situation. You know, the classics
are any never played a playoff game, but a different

(01:37:03):
scenario for sure. But I think as many teams made
the playoffs. Yeah, exactly, he has a chance. I don't
think he'll get in this year. He'll I think he'll
stay on the ballot. There's gonna be a lot of
people that don't vote for Etro but then vote for.

Speaker 4 (01:37:17):
Felix just so he stays on the ballot.

Speaker 9 (01:37:18):
So it'll keep i Tro from being unanimous, but it'll
keep Felix on the ballot, which I'm okay with that
trade off.

Speaker 4 (01:37:23):
It's a weird yeah process from me, that's what all happened.

Speaker 9 (01:37:26):
Yeah, and then I really hope eventually he gets in
because I think he deserves that. He's one of my
favorite Marriagers that I've ever watched. So yeah, I'm a
big fan of this.

Speaker 4 (01:37:33):
Yeah, yeah, King Felix.

Speaker 7 (01:37:35):
I mean, it kind of be nice to have a
Cooper's down Mariner day with both of them a game
at the same time.

Speaker 4 (01:37:41):
No, it's not gonna happen. All right, Well, we're gonna
do this again next week. We'll be done. We're done
crystal balling. So next week we'll we'll rely on the
news of the day.

Speaker 7 (01:37:50):
Just starting to react to you come on, getting someone
into some of the free agents out there, including Juan Soto.

Speaker 4 (01:37:56):
Who we will discuss, yes we will, but that'll do
it for this.
