Speaker 1 (00:00):
Is the twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to
you by Coors Light, by R and R Foundation specialist
but Queen Anne bear Ho and by Fox thirteen on
Sports Radio ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
All right, here we go day three. You can crank
it up a little bit here.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Huh, let's go. Let's crank it up a little bit.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
There we go get you know what, they have a
great thing. They got coffee in the in the cafeteria here.
That's there's a there's a I don't know which one
you got on the left side. It's like juiced up coffee.

Speaker 4 (00:31):
I went left.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
Yeah, yeah, it's like the guy the gentleman said, most
people go with the one on the right. I looked
on the one on the left and it had like,
you know, it's like quadruple caffeine or.

Speaker 3 (00:40):
Something like that. So I'm glad.

Speaker 4 (00:41):
I went left.

Speaker 2 (00:42):
Took my blood pressure meds already, so I'm ready to go,
ready to go. Here we are at Virginia Mason Athletic
Center on Day three of the twenty twenty five NFL
Draft and for Dash, Rob rang is here, Jessman McIntyre's here, Hi,
Ashley Ryan back at the studios.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
Hello you, I'm great, happy to be here.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
Good deal, good deal, all right, great to have everyone
with us here, and we are starting day three. We're
gonna recap. We have a busy show coming up, and
I say, our busy show. We're on nine in noon,
Chuck Palette noon, and then Kid and Andrews will put
a wrap up on things late this afternoon. I'm guessing
somewhere around eight hours plus of coverage here from the
Virginia Mason Athletic under today for Day three the NFL Draft,

(01:18):
and we'll give you the Seahawks, what they've got coming up,
what they're doing in the next little while. Round four
is just getting underway for the NFL Draft. Sex don't
pick until number thirty five. That's a compensatory pick, so
very late in round four, so we got some time
to kind of recap what they've done so far, what
they're gonna do today. That's why we have we have mister,
Day three of the NFL Draft here, Rob Rang How

(01:40):
are you, sir?

Speaker 4 (01:40):
I'm doing very well.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
How are you I'm good, I'm good.

Speaker 2 (01:43):
Coming up in about eight or nine minutes, we're gonna
check in with Nick Sheridan. He is the and it
should be a familiar name to a lot of fans
around here.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
He was working.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
He was a tight ends coach at Washington with Kalin
de Bor, went with the Boor to Alabama, and last
season he was the quarterback coach an offensive coordinator with
the Alabama Crimson tie still is there obviously, and he
will join us. He coached a guy by the name
of Jalen Milroll, which was the headliner yesterday on Day two.
Two other really good picks, and I know Rob liked
the Seahawks made. They moved up in round two. So

(02:14):
we've got five picks schedule to be made today by
the Seahawks, pick number thirty five in the fourth round.
That's one thirty seven overall. Two picks in the fifth
round picks thirty six and thirty nine. So it could
be like a rapid fire, real busy session because you know,
we'll see where they end up going back to back
in round five was thirty six and thirty nine, but
and then two picks in round seven. We were just

(02:36):
talking a minute ago, is there a chance And I
was talking with Greg Bell from the News rebunal join us.
Do we see John Schneider moving up again, maybe kind
of not wanting to wait for an hour and a
half or two hours this morning.

Speaker 4 (02:48):
I think there's certainly a possibility, especially if, as you said,
he got the coffee on the left, you know, then
he might do right, you know, the.

Speaker 2 (02:54):
Left coffee, buddy, left coffee, you.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
Know, the rocket fuel there. You know, I do think
that there is a possibility just because the fact that
there are some really good players that are still available here.
You know, we know that on day three these are
gonna be prospects that don't have necessarily as much name
to them. But you know, just going back to the
recent history of the Seahawks, I mean just last year,

(03:19):
of course, they wound up getting too Allowmea who wound
up being the starter at the right guard position. They
got him on day three. They got a J. Barner
on day three. I mean, this is a team that
has consistently won big on day three. And obviously some
of the legends that John Schneider has drafted on day three,
the Richard Sherman's, the cam Chancellors of the world.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
You know.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
So again I know that there isn't quite as much
excitement out there from a lot of NFL draft fans
when comes to Day three. But this is where the
good teams can become great, where the bad teams can
you know, get themselves back in the playoff contention. With
the Seahawks having five selections D and I am excited
because I think that this is something that that the

(04:01):
Seahawks should be in good position to exploit and quickly
I'll run down some of the positions of concerns I
think for the club as well as some of the
positional groups that I think are strongest. I do think
that there are a number of wide receivers and defensive
linemen who who very much match up well with what

(04:22):
the Seahawks are still needing, not necessarily starting players immediately,
but I don't think that the Seahawks are looking for
stars at this point. They're looking for depth, They're looking
for special teams, looking for a possible returner. So again,
wide receiver is a position that I think you're going
to see several players come off the board pretty quickly

(04:42):
here in the fourth round and may be something good
enough to justify a move up. A Jalen Royals from
Utah State and Isaiah Bond from Texas. We talked about
Elk I you Manor and uh and Tory Horton from
Colorado State. I am Manor from Stanford UH. You know
in yesterday's show as possible late third round selections. Of course,

(05:04):
the Seahawks wound up taking Jalen Milroe instead, and again,
as we talked about last night, that is a selection
that I'm super excited about just because of the upside
that he presents. The quarterback position. Running back is also very,
very deep. I do not expect necessarily for the Seahawks
to be investing in early selection in another offensive lineman.

(05:24):
I think that they feel pretty good about the youth
and the talent of their offensive line, especially with the
first round selection a couple of days ago. Of course,
of Gray's abel, but if they wanted to go that route,
Marcus Bow from Purdue, Jalen Rivers from Miami, Bryce Cabledew
It's an interesting one from Kansas, just because the Seahawks
did bring him in for a thirty visit. One of

(05:48):
my favorite interior offensive linemen in this class is still available,
as Joshua Gray from Oregon State. He is a nice
fit in the wide zone blocking scheme that the Seahawks
are bringing in. Cornerback is a position of concern. Dorian
Strong from Virginia Tech, denzil Burke from Ohio State, Quincy Riley.
Of all the top corners that we talked about, of course,

(06:10):
we highlighted guys like Travis Hunter earlier in this you
know in the weekend. You know, Quincy Riley from Louisville
actually is the corner in this class that has the
most interceptions fifteen career interceptions and also stood out the
Senior Bowl. We know how the Seahawks love to take
players for mobile Alabama off ball linebacker another Oregon duck,

(06:32):
and you're gonna see a lot of Oregon ducks quite
literally fly off the board here.

Speaker 2 (06:37):
You know, by the way, had a historic day yesterday
or first two days with six guys in the first
two days, and.

Speaker 4 (06:42):
It's gonna wind up being a historic day today as well.
Just because Oregon set their school record. I know there's
a lot of Oregon fans out there's a lot of
people who are not Oregon fans listening. I apologize if
if by saying this it's bothersome to some, But University
of Washington set their record for the most players drafted
a year ago. This is Oregon's turn. Last year they

(07:03):
had eight players drafted that set a school record. They
are going to shatter that, you know, this weekend, and
they already had six. As you mentioned, it's weird they
were a college football playoff team last year. It's almost
like there's a correlation there, Robins. Exactly.

Speaker 2 (07:16):
The players make good players get you to the playoffs
is what happens.

Speaker 4 (07:19):
Yep, yep. And so that's so we're gonna we're gonna
see that unfold here. One of my favorite players from Oregon,
Jeffrey Bassa, the linebacker I think would make some sense
for the Seahawks or for some other clubs here in
I do expect Basa to go this round. Danny Stetsman
from Oklahoma, Smile London from Georgia, Barrett Carter from Clemson,

(07:40):
and again my favorite positional group for the Seahawks. At
this point in round four, they're about thirty five picks away.
Josh the defensive line in edge rushers Joshua Farmer from
Florida State, Ty Robinson from Nebraska, Jay Toea from UCLA.
Those are all big wrong interior defensive lineman and then

(08:02):
the edge rushers Jack Sawyer from Ohio State, Braden Swinson
from LSU, Tyler barn from Miami, Kyle Kernard from South Carolina. Last,
but not least, on my list, this is more of
a stand up outside linebacker. But another guy who starred
at the Senior Bowl, David Walker from Central Arkansas.

Speaker 2 (08:19):
All right, that is Rob Raang foxsports dot com PC
Lions Scout as well in our scout here on staff
at ninety three three point three, ninety three to three.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
I can't even talk today. What time do we leave here?
Last night? Anyway on kJ R. That's what we're not
so except we brought everything to the people. We did,
we did, We got here, all right?

Speaker 2 (08:40):
Tennessee is has their pick in they'll announcement in the
second is the first pick of the fourth round. We
don't expect to see Schudur Sanders obviously go there since
they took a quarterback number one overall. Where before we
get Nick Sheridan on where do you think we're gonna send?
You know, actually before we get shod Dour Sanders real
quick before recaps, yeh, where did you go?

Speaker 4 (09:00):
I mean it's we talked about this a little bit
last night. You know that I think at this point,
if NFL teams viewed him as highly as I did
entering this process, then he would be off the board
right now. Look, I know that there's some talk out there,
there's oh, there's collusion in the NFL. All thirty two
NFL teams are are you know, are working against this
young man. I just don't believe that could possibly be

(09:21):
the case, just because the fact that quarterbacks are needed
in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
Well, the Seahawks took a quarterback for just the third
time in sixteen years that John Schneider has been a
has been drafting for Seattle. It worked out pretty well.
The last time they took a third rounder, his name
was Russell Wilson, and that year Russ had an incredible
rookie year, went to the playoffs divisional round. Next year,
they won a little thing called the Super Bowl. Maybe

(09:47):
a longer runway for the guy they picked in the
third round yesterday, and he doesn't have quite the same
pressure to come in and play right away. But boy,
there was a ton of excitement in Seattle, in the
draft room and everywhere else when the Seahawks selected Jay
Miro with the ninety second pick overall from the University
of Alabama role tied. I can say that I got
relatives there and joining us right now on the Beacon

(10:09):
Plumbing hot line. The quarterback coach at Alabama, the co
offensive coordinator at Alabama. Former Husky tight ends coach working
with Kaylin Debor so Husky fans know him well. Nick
Sheridan joins us right now in the Beacon Plumbing hot
Line from Tuscalaloosa. Hi, Nick, how are you good?

Speaker 5 (10:27):
How are you guys doing?

Speaker 2 (10:28):
We're doing good. I gotta tell you. There was a
ton of excitement yesterday, and you know, drafting quarterbacks is fun.
There's something about this young man. And then we got
a chance to hear from him on the conference call.
And by the way, you're talking to ian Nas Rob
Rang as well from Fox Sports dot Com or here
with us on the shores of Lake Washington, a view
you know well from your time up here. Before we

(10:49):
get to Jalen Milroe, the player, Nick, we heard him yesterday.
Very impressive young man. But what are what are what
are the Seahawks getting in terms of a person?

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Well, I just think someone that's extremely committed to being
the very best that they can be. And he's just
as hard of a work and of a kid that
that you're going to find. And so he loves football.
He works extremely hard and he's completely committed to that.
And so I think, you know, the minute that he
steps in that building, I think people will recognize just
how serious he is about becoming as good as he

(11:21):
can possibly be.

Speaker 3 (11:22):
All Right, what are they getting in the player?

Speaker 5 (11:26):
Well, I think someone that's incressibly explosive. I think you know,
anybody that's followed his career, I think the production speaks
for itself. But he's just an extremely explosive player, you know,
somebody that can certainly push the ball down the field
vertically and create you know, great plays in the passing game.
But then obviously has an element that I think makes
him rare as a player. You know that a lot

(11:47):
of a lot of people they don't have, you know,
and that's his ability to extend plays and not just
get first downs, but to the explosive plays with his
legs when plays break down and gets you out of trouble.
So I think he's a an extremely rare and unique
player that has, you know, an amazing ability to pray
explosive place and his career would would speak to that,

(12:07):
you know, the production that he's had, the amount of
touchdowns he's accounted for. You know, he's a winner. And
so I think all those things, you know, when you
watch the film and you evaluate them, I think they
jump off the tape.

Speaker 4 (12:19):
Nick, this is Rob Ryan from Fox Sports. I remember,
you know, talking with you, uh, you know, and and
other members of the University of Watching Washington coaching staff
over the last couple of years. And you know, one
of the things I just want to kind of you know,
tip the cap to you and into some of the
other coaches, and then what you worked with was just
the development of Michael Panks Junior. Can you just kind

(12:41):
of compare and contrast just the work ethic, the just
the innate talents of say, you know a former quarterback
that you worked with, Michael Panks Junior, as well as
Jalen Monroe.

Speaker 5 (12:54):
Well, I think, you know, certainly, as players are, they're
different in a lot of ways. I think the things
that they they share is just what you said, you know,
the commitment to being as good as they possibly can be.
You know. I think on top of that is their
genuine care and appreciation for not just the people that
help them, you know, their family, the coaches, but also
their teammates. You know, I think they really have a
heart for others. They want to see others succeed and

(13:16):
do well.

Speaker 1 (13:17):
You know.

Speaker 5 (13:17):
I think if you watch the draft and you see
Tyler Booker getting picked, you know, I can you can
see the embrace that him and JML had, you know,
And so I think that just speaks to who they
are as people, their love and appreciation for everyone that's
been a part of their journey, and I think that
they share that in common. You know, obviously different types
of players, you know, different different things that they do

(13:37):
extremely well, but both extremely explosive in their own right,
and just you know, went about it a different way,
you know, play to the strengths to who they are
as players. But I think just who they are as people,
their hearts for others, I think, you know, they both
share that in common for sure. And you know, incredibly
hard working people that wanted to do very you know,
the very best each and every time they took the field,

(14:00):
not just for themselves but for others.

Speaker 4 (14:03):
Thank you. That does kind of, you know, portray some
of the strengths and weakness or excuse me, the differences
between those two quarterbacks. I'm gonna ask you a kind
of a tough question here for a second, just because
you know, the pressure at Alabama, of course, is just
so intense, and you know, unless you're holding up the
national championship at the very end, then for some it's

(14:25):
going to be viewed as a as a difficult season
for the Crimson Tide. One of the things that really
struck me about Jale Milroe yesterday and in his introductory
press conference that we got to talk with him, is
is he kind of champion the fact that he has
never lost two games in a row in his entire life.
Can you just talk, you know, kind of give us

(14:45):
a peek behind the scenes a little bit. When Alabama
did have a loss this past season, can you just
talk about how did Milroe react to that and how
did his teammates respond?

Speaker 5 (14:58):
Well, I think, you know, he kind of mentioned it
and I give him a ton of credit for that,
you know, and truthfully, you know, that's what the National
Football League is. You know, it's it's a long season
that your ability to kind of stayed the course and
withstand some of those ups and downs that occur, you know,
just naturally by playing in the National Football League. And
so the thing that I give him credit, and I
give all the guys a ton of credit, is that

(15:18):
they did just that they stayed the course. You know,
it never deterred them and never shook them, and never
you know, prevented them from just continuing to buy into
the process and just put their next step forward, you know,
and do the very best that they could. And so
I think that speaks to the character of who he is.
And certainly as a leader of the team or two
time captain, I think that, you know, moments like that

(15:40):
require you to step up, and I certainly felt like
he did that, and and I give him a ton
of credit, and I have a ton of respect for
how he handled, you know, just some of the adversity
that we experienced this past season. And I think it
speaks to who he is, who his family is, who
his parents are. Just a great kid from a great
family that you know, has experienced adversity. And I think
that that'll, you know, serve him well as he transitions

(16:02):
to being a pro football player, because ultimately those things
are going to happen in the National Football League. And
I think he's he's uniquely prepared to handle you know,
what comes with being an NFL quarterback, you know, the
attention that goes into being a quarterback here at Alabama
and all the things, all the all the you know,
just eys that are on you. I think he's uniquely

(16:24):
prepared to handle that, and he did it with grace
and class and integrity. His work ethic was never deterred.
He stayed the course, and I give him a ton
of credit for for you know, it revealed who he
was as a person. And I think it's you know,
one that everyone that has been a part of his
journey is super proud of how he handled, you know,
all the adversity that came his way and how he

(16:45):
responded in such a positive way.

Speaker 3 (16:48):
It is a Nick Sheridan.

Speaker 2 (16:49):
He is the offensive coordinator quarterbacks coach at Alabama under
with Kaalin de Bor coach Dalen Milrose. Seattle's third round
pick on Friday in the twenty twenty five NFL dropped
just the third quarterback select by John Schneider since coming
here in twenty ten. C you know, it's a special
pick for him. He was enthused last night, Nick John
Schneider like it's you know, we've been covering these things
for a long long time, longer than even before Schneider

(17:11):
was here. It's been a while since I've seen him
come out with that kind of enthusiasm talking about the
final pick on day two and listening to you. We
can tell why our QB one, Hugh Millen, who you know,
is not here this morning with us. But yeah, I'll
do my very best to ask a question that I
think he would want because we talked about it last night.
Milroe has all the physical tools. One of the things, though,
I think, is, you know, obviously accuracy. Maybe it's mechanics,

(17:34):
maybe it's not, but it feels like that's one of
those things that you know, especially if you have time
and you can sit behind Sam Darnold for a little bit,
you can get to that point. What does he need
to work on in terms of just accuracy and throwing
and how can he and I'm assuming you're confident he
can get to that point.

Speaker 5 (17:49):
Well, I don't think there's anything that he can't do
as a player. I think if you were to study
the film and watch the tape closely, I think you
see examples of him executing in all areas of the
game and an extra only a high level. I think
anytime in a college quarterback transitions to the NFL is
just you know, diving into what they're going to ask
him to do and how they're going to ask him
to do it, you know, because you know, there's different

(18:10):
ways to approach the game, different ways to structure your
offense or ask them to do certain things. And so
I think that transition is not unique to him. I
think that's for any rookie quarterback as they go to
the next level. But I think the thing that I
would say about you know, Jalen is he has an
ability to do something that nobody else can. I think
that's hard to find in a draft, you know, when

(18:31):
it's a skill set that is incredibly unique, and you
know that's his explosiveness to extend plays and as a runner,
you know, and I know you know, there's always going
to be things that he's going to continue to work on.
I think that's where every player. I think he embraces that.
I think he loves that part of, you know, playing
football because that you're always trying to find ways to improve,
and he loves football. He works incredibly hard, and so

(18:55):
I don't think there's anything that he can't do. You know,
it'll be just him diving into what they're going to
ask him to do, and the coaches and on the
footwork and the timing and all those different things that
are unique to each different offense that you're a part of.
But like I said, there's nothing that he can't do.
And I think if you watch the film, you have
seen examples of him executing all areas of his game
in the extremely high level.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, Nick, is interesting last night because the first thing
we started talking about is, you know, is he going
to sit behind Donald? They just resign Drew Locke, and
then you know, then we started daring to dream a
little bit. Is there a Taysom Hill type of package
for him along the way? And then John Schneider and
Mike McDonald talked about it last night and they said
what they say Rob was something like, you know, there's
like a a he's gonna be on the field next year,
not in that role, but probably you know, whether it

(19:38):
be like a wildcat package, you know, something along those lines.
He's going to get snaps on the field next year.
He'll be active on game days next year. And Nick,
I'm sure as you're talking about there's nothing he can't do.
The explosiveness of his running ability. We've seen the throws
he made. Hell the year before he got that, you
guys got there, the throw he made against Auburn, right,
I mean it was it was Auburn on fourth down,

(19:58):
right that. Yeah, I mean the guy has this. This
guy can do at all. I would assume that seems
like it might make sense to kind of ease him
in there a little some some different packages to get
him on the field.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
Nick, I think he adds value to your team immediately,
you know, And and what that role looks like and
what they ask him to do certainly will be up
to the staff in the organization. But I think he
provides value for you immediately, you know, because of the
skill set that he has, his competitive nature, his team
first mentality, and so you know that'll obviously, you know,

(20:30):
he'll earn a role there like all rookies do. But
you know, certainly there's a lot lot there to build on,
and you know that will help you win in a
short term, not to mention what you know the long
term may look like in the development for him and
getting accustomed to so what they're going to ask him
to do. But I think certainly, you know, there's there's

(20:51):
there's a lot there too, uh to be excited about,
you know, in the short term and then certainly in
the long term as well.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
I'll let you go after just one of one more
quick one. You guys played, I believe against South Carolina
last year.

Speaker 5 (21:02):
Right we did? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (21:04):
Okay?

Speaker 2 (21:05):
So as the as the offensive coordinator, you would have
had to watch another Seahawk draft pick yesterday. That would
be Nick i'mna worry from South Carolina the safety they
kind of Kyle Hamilton camp Chance or type comparisons. What
can you tell Seahawks fans up here in Seattle about
what they're getting in a guy that you're probably glad
you don't have to see anymore.

Speaker 5 (21:26):
I thought he was a great player, and I think
they do a tremendous job their staff and their whole program.
And he's certainly was somebody that that you took note of,
extremely productive, universatile player that that you know, I know,
he's got a bright future ahead of him as well.
And so yeah, he was an excellent player and and
certainly had our attention and our respect, There's no doubt

(21:47):
about it.

Speaker 2 (21:49):
Well, listen, best of luckdown in Alabama. I'm a Cougar fan,
Cougar alum, and so I'm glad I can. I love
Calin de Borg, one of the nicest men I've ever
met in sports, and the staff it sounds like the
way talking to you. I'm glad I can root for
you guys now as most of my family and most
of my inlaws, almost all my in laws are are
Obama fans. They're all my wifes from down there in
Alabama and everyone down there that's I get roll tied

(22:11):
hashtags to my text chain all the time. They were
Jack last night, so people were and stews about what
you guys got going on. So hey, good luck to
you down there, all right hopefully. Yeah, let's let's go
get another national title for my second team, which also
wears Crimson. It just Crimson cream instead of Crimson and Gray. So, uh, Nick,
thank you so much for coming on.

Speaker 5 (22:30):
Nick, take care, you gotta take care guys.

Speaker 3 (22:34):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
That is Nick Sheridan. He is the offensive coordinator and
quarterbacks coach for Alabama.

Speaker 3 (22:40):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (22:40):
And some good things to say there Rob about Jalen Milroll.

Speaker 4 (22:43):
Yeah exactly, I think that. Uh, I mean just kind
of effusive and it's praise as you'd expect, you know,
of a former coach talking about his his for his
star pupil there. But at the same time, it was
just the fact that he kind of was, you know,
really focusing on the idea that there's nothing that Jail
Milroe can't do on the football field. Yeah, And that

(23:05):
to me is one of the most exciting elements of
this because it does allow you to kind of just
dream about the different possibilities that the Seahawks might be
able to come up with here with how Milrae might
be able to get himself onto the football field early on.
I do think that he is a quarterback first and foremost.
But at the same time, when you have a guy
that can run like this guy King is built like

(23:26):
the way he is, then it just makes your imagination
kind of just go wild with the possibilities.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
He's gonna be on the field next year. That's the
thing that's gonna be. That's the fun that we heard
that last night. Barring something strange, he'll be on the field.
And as Nick said, that's a perfect way to do it.
Work on the other things, doesn't have to come in
and play right away. But yeah, the enthusiasm and the
excitement for him is there. Guess who's here. Chuck Powell
is here. Ladies and gentlemen, you know what we're gonna do.
Since you're here and you're not eating breakfast, We're gonna
put you on for a couple of minutes coming up

(23:54):
in the next segment and get our morning show host,
the anchor of the great show in the morning.

Speaker 3 (23:59):
I don't see any sign of the the other guy.
Where's the other guy?

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Nah, probably yelling at baseball nine year old baseball kid somewhere.
Ashley's doing the show today. Chucks here, we'll hear from
Chuck Peell, the King of Draft miss, what he thinks
of the Seahawks have done so far. We'll give you
an update on what's going on as fourth round is
underwagas Sale hasn't picked for a while. Last one of
the last picks in the fourth round, number thirty five
overall in this round. We'll check in with Chuck coming

(24:22):
up next nine three point three KJFM and.

Speaker 1 (24:24):
The twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to you
by Coors Life, by R and R Foundation specialists, The
Queen Anne Beerho and by Fox thirteen on Sports Radio
ninety three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 2 (24:39):
We are back at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center, day
three of the twenty twenty five NFL Draft. Seahawks were
picking in the fourth round. They have five picks scheduled today.
Their fourth round pick doesn't happen until late in the
fourth round. It is a compensate Tory pick, Ashley, are
you back there right now?

Speaker 3 (24:53):
Can you hear me?

Speaker 4 (24:53):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (24:54):
I can hear ye. Okay. There was a I don't
know if you have it? You're ready?

Speaker 2 (24:58):
When I was listening to the morning show driving around
this past week, last couple of weeks, there was this
really cool song. A sultry female voice was singing it.
I'll say that. Hopefully HR doesn't call me. Uh do
you have that? Is that at the ready? Because I
feel like I need a better introduction for our next guest.
Do you have that song?

Speaker 4 (25:15):
Is that?

Speaker 3 (25:15):
Can you find that? How quick? There? There? Hang up?
Draft there?

Speaker 2 (25:33):
Wed there?

Speaker 3 (25:35):
Okay? Oh? Do you like that? Oh man? Is that
a soothing tone of puts you in the season? Yeah?
I've already had thirteen eggnogs Thursday, but I think I'm
gonna get another one.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
You might as well. Why would you not that? Of
course the voice of Chuck pal Actually, by the.

Speaker 3 (25:50):
Way, great job on that song. Thank you. You must
be the Queen of karaeok and mill Creek. We've challenged
people at iHeart and they're all cower.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Yeah, I'd want no part of it, to be honest
with you, I'd want no part of it with you.

Speaker 3 (26:05):
Of that.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
But Chuck Powell, of course, our morning show host is
here with us. My friend, how are you?

Speaker 3 (26:10):
I'm great, I'm great. Mary Draft means happy all of
you and we're all here.

Speaker 2 (26:16):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, you know we've got else running around
doing their thing. You know, there's a really tall elf
named Hugh Millen here a couple of days ago. Yeah,
a loud elf. His name is Softie. Oh loudy elf.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
He did.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
He did a show that the entire John Schneider could
listen to his show down the hall through closed doors
in the draft room. It's it's just a remarkable thing.
They have magic else do.

Speaker 3 (26:41):
I often put on his headsets after he's done from
the night before his show, and that's a that's an experience. Yeah.
I feel like Pete Townsend and the Who every time
I'm finished with a softy headset. He needs a headset
that's not like he's listening to fame. Uh, we'll move on.

Speaker 2 (27:06):
Chuck is gonna be on the headsets at noon today,
you got here to check out the fourth round and
I saw him walking by. I said, I can't just
let you walk by, not jump on. We haven't heard
from you obviously yesterday morning, but since day two has happened,
so let's just kind of reak at Grayzabele, Nick Kamana
Wari the safety out of South Carolina yesterday, Elijah Royal,
the tight end of Miami, and Jalen Milroll. Those are

(27:27):
your four Sea OWK picks through two days.

Speaker 3 (27:29):
I'd say it's the most fascinating for some of picks
since I came to town. And that's now been a decade,
believe it or not, that I've been here. You know,
it remains, it always does remain to be seen. I
don't think it's a crap shoot. Otherwise, why are we
doing this. I think it's an inexact science. So you
got to figure out that equation and see how guys

(27:49):
progress and how they adapt to the league, and how
you insert them and so there's a lot to figure
out with any draft group. But so I'm not here
to tell you, oh, heading to the super Bowl, thanks
for some but I will say it's the most fascinating
group that I think he's ever drafted through the first
two days of the NFL Draft.

Speaker 4 (28:07):
Yeah, well, one hundred percent agree with you. And we
tried to make the point last night that, you know,
when when Schneider and mcdonne we're out here talking, they
Schneider kind of said that. I think it was kind
of offhand, but he basically just said, like, if Elijah
Royo hadn't suffered the knee injury, then this might have
been a top fifteen selection, And then clearly with Jaylen Milroe,
when you see him at his absolute best, there are

(28:29):
first round traits. So I think that you could make
the argument, and maybe this is from you know, Seahawk
blue colored glasses, but you can make the argument the
Seahawks have four players here who are legitimate first round
caliber prospects, and and so's it's hard not to get
excited about that when this just felt like a Seahawks
squad there for a while that was kind of capped
at you know, maybe competing for the playoffs. But even

(28:51):
if they got in that they weren't going to really
make a run. But now you've got some guys that
really have some juice to them that if you hit
on these players, and you've got a legitimate weapon now
with em and War. You addressed your biggest area of
concern with your very first pick in Gray's Abel, who
was pretty much universally regarded as uh, you know, a safe, secure,

(29:14):
starting caliber guard. And and then of course when you
have a player that has the potential of a of
Elijah Royo and Jaln Milroe. It's again to me. John
Shaw came in yesterday our last night as excited as
I've ever seen him, especially after Day two of the
draft and h and I think that he feels that energy,

(29:36):
and I think the Seahawk fans are going to feel that.

Speaker 3 (29:37):
As well already thirteen Schneiderbuck's worth a player so far?
You fourteen fourteen? Hey, but he's right.

Speaker 2 (29:45):
It was it was a weird you know, we've ben,
you know, for sixteen years watching John Schnyder come out
during these things, and.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
He had a different the last time.

Speaker 2 (29:54):
I kind of remember that type of like as you
would say, juice or enthusiasm, kind of that little twinkle
in on the on draft massive or what have you.
Was when he took Russ in the third round. And
I remember when he did that. We sat here that
night and he takes Russ, and I remember was Hugh
and me and Rob and it was like, what, like,
Matt Flynn, you just signed Matt Flynn. Yeah, like you

(30:16):
just took Russ. And then he came in. They started
talking about Russ and I was talking to some guys
in the hallway behind the scenes some of the football
and they're like, you're not gonna leave this guy, like
the personality and this, you know, old Russ pre Sierra Russ.
Let's just say that I could. I'll be the guy
that says that's fine. But there was something there. Listen

(30:36):
Milroe And the best thing about Milrose he doesn't have
to come like sam Donold's not Matt Flynn, right, Like
That's the thing I thought was really interesting last night,
Chuck is he they you know, we on the air
were going live and you know how it is, You're
reacting to stuff as it happens, and we're like, okay,
what do they do? The first thing we started talking
about Hugh and Robin, I was, well, Taysom Hill, like,
this is a Taysom Hill thing. You look at the size,

(30:57):
you look at everything he's got, and that was asked
and they said no. But he will be on the
field this year, So they are going to activate him.
They're going to have three quarterbacks active, which has never
happened in this team franchise's history. But he will be
with a ten percent he's saying he's got like a
package of like ten percent of that was a number
to one out there. He will be on the field.

Speaker 3 (31:17):
A lot of people throw that out and then you
never truly see it.

Speaker 4 (31:20):
Yea.

Speaker 3 (31:21):
I will wait to see how they would incorporate that
ten percent, but there's certainly an opportunity to use him
as a weapon. I mean, he is a dynamic athlete.

Speaker 2 (31:31):
I know, I know it's different quarterback in a different
offensive coordinator yea. But the common denominator with this team
over the last few years is the red zone offense
has been horrific. Yeah, like it's killed them, you know,
and maybe it a lot of it was, I mean,
the geno interceptions we all know, but he just overall
that their goal to goal offense I believe was bottom
three to the last two or three years, right, first

(31:52):
and goal. I mean, it's like all those things. So
if he gives you something, But I think it's an interesting.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Twenty rushing touchdowns, yeah, last year a quarterback and it's
not Tim Tebow just diving over the pile either that
those you know, not all of those touchdown runs were
one yard. Yeah, his explosion.

Speaker 2 (32:11):
Bill Pollion this morning driving in on the NFL Network
talking about like there's a make you missibility, Like there's
a power to his running game. There's a there's obviously
a speed was running game, but there's a make you
missibility to which is which is fun to watch. I
don't want to take all your juice for noon. Let
me let me throw this at you because you'll be
able to react to it by the time you come on.

(32:32):
Rob already kind of talked about the things they need.
I think an next receiver is just has to be
at the top of the list. They Rob again, what's
the stat for the receiver of.

Speaker 4 (32:40):
The nine wide receivers they currently on the roster, they
only have two of them. They've run in anything in
the four fours.

Speaker 3 (32:46):
Yeah, they need speed. Yeah, a wide receiver, So what
do you want to see him be today? That that
would be top of the list for me. I don't
know if because you went first round offensive line, I
was I thought they'd go a few more bites at
the apple, maybe three guys in the draft. But maybe
since you've already declared we just drafted our left guard,

(33:08):
that maybe you're not going to take as many. But
I would think there's another shot here somewhere with the
offensive line, considering all the issues with it. You know
they're going to take an edge and you know they're
going to take a corner at some point during today.
And I think corner kind of snuck up on us
in the mornings. Maybe not the two of you, but
I got about a week and a half away from

(33:29):
the draft, and I'm like, have we not talked about
cornerbacking up? Because I think this team has a cornerback need.
Riek Willan has not played all that well the last
couple of years, and I saw a depth chart with
Neamiah Pritchett as a starter. No, no, no, So cornerback
I think is well we're talking and speed receiver I
think are your two biggest needs today?

Speaker 2 (33:51):
Well, we're talking about Josh Job of all the respect
as a guy that is going to be pushing to
be a starter. That's they go big nickel. Though, if
they go big nickel, it sounds like a great country man.
I'm gonna go watch them tonight. They're playing it out
in Black Diamond right next to Ravensdale. Uh the come
on out, Chuck. We'll buy you a drink. I'll buy
you ah in honor of our guy, I'll buy you

(34:12):
a bush light. The But you know, like he was
talking about this last night, you go big nickel with
a Mona Warri and he's your slot guy because you
got the two guys in the back end, and then
all of a sudden, Witherspoon can play on the outside
and you kind of take a little bit of that
need away maybe as well. But I mean, that's that's
what they're gonna want to go big nickel with with

(34:32):
with those three safeties. Like, I don't think there's any
doubt that's what Mike McDonald wants to do. We saw it,
We saw what he wanted to do because we saw
it in Baltimore, right, So, but you're right, we did
talk about corners the other day. Like there's Witherspoon, last
year of his deal, right, got more, one more.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
One more?

Speaker 2 (34:48):
You're gonna pick up the third? Yes, exactly, Well he's
on our first round pick though, so I'm sorry that said.
We got one more year so that that might be
in again. If your Trey Brown's gone, pritchet along the way.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
All right, we will see you at noon. Okay, great stuff,
some grab some turkey sounce going to ye sure, yes, yes, yes,
and watch a little more. A few more draft picks
come off the board here.

Speaker 2 (35:16):
When we come back, we'll recap what's happened in the
fourth round today a cup. Well, at least one big
name is off the board. We'll tell you who that
is from the Big twelve coming up next.

Speaker 1 (35:26):
Oh, back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center and the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to you by
cors Life, by R and R Foundation specialist the Queen
Anne Beerho and by Fox thirteen on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ R fam.

Speaker 2 (35:44):
All right, we're back at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center
in for nest Rob rang Jasaman McIntyre's here, Ashley Ryan
back at the studio. Chuck Powell is here. He'll be
on with you coming up at noon today as our
coverage will continue throughout the day here on ninety three
point three KJRFM, as we bring you Day three draft
coverage the best there is. We were on the air
from the Virginia Mason Athletics Center about I did the

(36:09):
math lesson almost eighteen hours on days one and two,
and probably another eight or so hours today and happy
to be here. If you're driving around doing stuff with
the kids, you got things going on, honeydew list, maybe
you just want to get the hell out of the house,
whatever it might have been.

Speaker 3 (36:23):
Thanks for joining us. We'll keep you updated on.

Speaker 2 (36:25):
What Seattle does, obviously that's kind of our focus, and
what the Seahawks have done, what they will do. We'll
get through all those things. Seahawks don't pick now until
the end of the fourth round, so we got a
little time to go. Let's recap though, what has happened
so far today we started the show, rob was talking
about some of the guys that the Seahawks could be targeting.

(36:46):
One of those I believe was defensive tackle Ty Robinson.

Speaker 4 (36:49):
Was it not, Yeah, it was, and just the case
of the rich getting richer. The Philadelphia Eagles selected ty Robinson.
He's a guy.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Should there be a limit there on how many defensive players,
the good defensive players they can get?

Speaker 4 (37:00):
It certainly feels like there should be, you know. I mean,
that's the thing is, you know, almost it's getting to
the point now the Philadelphia Eagles that it's like there
that they have so many good players that you know,
then you're hoping that maybe they're gonna cut somebody or something,
because they've got a lot of good ones. Ty Robinson's
very different, of course than like a guy like a
Jalen Carter and you know, Jordan Davis, some of their

(37:23):
early round selections here in the last few days. In
the six foot five is two hundred and eighty eight pounds,
he's playing more on that outside defensive end kind of
a role. He really can hold the point of attack nicely.
He can slide inside and play defensive tackle. One of
the reasons I liked him specifically for the Seahawks is
that not only is he a very effective defensive lineman,

(37:44):
can like I said, hold the point, but he also
gets his hands up at the lion of scrimmage knocks
down a bunch of passes, and then he actually played
the fullback role for the Cornhuskers this past season as well.
Wasn't the receiver, but he was a very good effective
lead blocker, and so to me that that kind of

(38:05):
positional versatility I thought would have been very intriguing to
the Seahawks. Unfortunately, he is off the board. Another one
that just came off the board here to another heated
rival of the Seahawks, Samansko forty nine ers taking the
defensive tackle CJ. West, who is another good run plugging
kind of a guy. I was surprised to see him

(38:25):
come off the board quite this early, just because the
fact that he basically was a one year standout of Indiana.
But this is a guy who was a six' one
two or excuse, me three hundred and twenty pounds and
he is just a fire hydrant in the. Middle and
so for A San Franscoforti iras team that THAT i
believe Released Javon hargrave in their their salary, cup salary,

(38:47):
cat salary cap easy for me to, say salary, cap blood.
Letting then they basically get a replacement here in the fourth,
round and that again is the point is that these
aren't necessarily the most elite athletes at this, point but
they are the kind of players that can plug holes
for your. SQUAD i believe again that The seahawks are
likely you'd be looking at a wide, receiver a corner

(39:10):
or again defensive lineman here when they are up in
about another twenty.

Speaker 2 (39:14):
Selections all, right forty, NINE i want to go back
to to tease the big twelve. Player we'll tell you
who that is in a second from a Foreigner pac twelve.
School we'll get to that in. Heartbeat the forty nine.
Ers just stay with them just for a, second if
we can, one, two, three, four five. Picks so far
every player on the defensive, side two defensive, tackles an edge,
player and a. Cornerback so far for the forty nine.

(39:37):
Ers they are loading up on defense down in The
Bay area right, Now, robin they really.

Speaker 4 (39:41):
Are And i'll have to kind of refresh my screen
here to see exactly all their players, here but they.

Speaker 2 (39:47):
Are get it back to, you So Michael williams with
the edge From. Georgia Alfred, collins defensive tackle From, Texas Nick,
martin the linebacker From Oklahoma, State upton stout From Western
kentucky and as we mentioned just a moment, go they
took west From.

Speaker 4 (40:02):
Indiana so, yeah that's forty. Nine its defensive line is,
back you, know that's the. Thing and like So Mikel
williams is starting off from the. Top. Uh you, know
he is a guy that, again this is gonna not
gonna be a comparison The losiak fans are gonna. Love
but he reminds me a little bit Of Justin smith
and just a guy that is NOT i don't know
That Mikeel williams.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Cowboy, Yes, uh guy just terrorized.

Speaker 4 (40:26):
This place exact and just the physicality with which he.
PLAYED i, mean there's there's some guys out there who,
are you, know very good pass, rushers AND i think
it's almost unfortunate sometimes that if you're not getting, sacks
then there's a lot of fans out there who don't
appreciate a defensive lineman for just being just a brawler
at the point of. Attack and that's What Mikel williams.

(40:49):
Is HE i think he wound up with like four
and a half sacks this past, season so people were
kind of knocking him and he was what people forget
is that he suffered an ankle injury early in the
year and battled through that all year. LONG i Remember
Justin smith doing the same kind of. Thing he would
get nicked, up but there was no way that he wasn't.
Playing that's the kind of guy That Mikel williams, is
and again that the forty nine ers. Are they're a

(41:14):
team that prioritizes, physicality always have, been and they definitely
have gotten a lot more physical at the point of
attack in this draft so.

Speaker 2 (41:20):
Far all, right That's rob brang ganfinaced with you or
The Virginia Mason Athletic. Center what's before the final few
minutes before the top of the, Atta let's recap what
has happened in round four. Again The seahawks. Pick near
the end of the fourth. Round we are thirteen twelve
picks into the fourth. Round that'll be the first of
five picks day For, seattle the name from the and
there is a run right. Now there is definitely a

(41:42):
run on that deep running back, Class rob that you've talked,
about because they have won Two three running backs have
already gone in the first twelve picks of this. Round
Cam skataboo going one oh five over're all the third
pick in the fourth, Round Camp scataboo From Arizona state.

Speaker 3 (42:00):
To The New York.

Speaker 4 (42:00):
GIANTS i, Mean i'm dating myself with this, reference but
some of us will remember a Great giants running back
NAMED O. J anderson Or Otis anderson just a just
a brawling kind of a. PLAYER i mean just physical
that would you, know just barrel down Hill and, that
to me is what this young man plays. Like and

(42:23):
He that's the thing is that you see all the
highlight reels of him just bouncing off of. Contact you,
know what you don't often see is how impactful he
was on special, teams how good of a wide receiver
that he. Is but we talked about when when The
seahawks made this selection Of Jaylen. Milroe you know there
was A Taco oh is it gonna be A Taysom

(42:44):
hill kind of a. Guy it's got about to, me
what is The Taysom hill kind of guy in this draft?
CLASS i, mean he is a guy that no matter
where you put. Him you can put him a wildcat,
quarterback you can put him as a traditional running, back
you can put him anywhere that you. Want and this
guy just makes, plays he plays with THE aggressi sharing that.
Again the physicality is the word you're gonna Keep you're
gonna hear me keep, saying because there's only it's it's.

(43:06):
Funny football is obviously a game of, physicality but there
are some guys who just stand apart in that. Way
scottabo is one of those. Guys we remember When pete
first got. Here that was kind of the trademark Of Pete. Carroll,
Right you're not just like everyone's, physical everyone's, tough but
then there's different levels of that and that's what they're looking.

Speaker 2 (43:24):
For all, right let me get to. This we haven't
discussed it. Yet we spent a lot of time the
last couple of days doing it AND i understand, why
but we'll do it for the first time. Now Shador
sanders is still on the. Board we are now and
and you, know teams that could have taken him are
starting to. Dwindle The raiders have passed on him five

(43:45):
six times, already, right And New orleans is not gonna take,
him but people are just joining. Us New orleans took
a quarterback last. Night we're kind of down To, pittsburgh
are we? Not? Like is it kind of that's where
we're looking at and just in terms of a team
that may sense for where he could. Go so Dur
standers is still. There i'm just looking Through. Houston this

(44:05):
is the next few picks in the fourth.

Speaker 3 (44:07):
Round.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
HOUSTON i, MEAN i can't imagine he drops out of
the fourth, round But, Houston, Indianapolis, Atlanta, Cincinnati, Tennessee Tampa, Bay,
Carolina pittsburgh at number twenty one in this round seems
to be the next best opportunity For Shadeur.

Speaker 3 (44:22):
Sanders.

Speaker 4 (44:23):
YEAH i think that the teams that have a clear
need for, quarterback Then pittsburgh would make the most. Sense
and you know WHAT i was starting to think about
ian is not so much about which teams need a,
quarterback because, clearly if a team needed a, quarterback Then
Shuduar sanders would be off the. Board IF nfl teams
felt AS i, did That Chaduar sanders has the traits

(44:46):
that you're looking for to be. Successful look, again there's
this talk about collusion and things like. That IF nfl
teams view you as a potential starting, quarterback then there's
no way in hell you're dropping the fourth. Round and
SO i think the teams just don't view his skill
set as translating as well to THE nfl AS i.

Speaker 5 (45:06):
Did.

Speaker 4 (45:07):
Uh you, Know i've cited the fact that he led
college football with a seventy four percent completion, rate As
Hugh millen articulated in the last couple of. DAYS i,
mean if you look, at you, know beyond just the
lion of scrimmage in the short pass and that The
colorado excelled, with then Then Shadull sanders' accuracy does fall
off the. Board there's no question that he runs himself

(45:28):
into as many sacks as he ran away from the
leadership traits that you're that are required at the quarterback,
position And sanders has shown repeatedly that that he is
lacking in some of those. Things the immaturity. Here so to,
me what this comes down to, IS i if If
Shodure sanders is, drafted BECAUSE i don't think that it's
a given at this. Point if he's fallen this, FAR
i think there's a possibility he keeps on falling Because

(45:49):
i'm looking at some of the other quarterbacks on the.
BOARD i Like Quinn, EWERS i Like kyle. McCord, uh you,
know they are also still waiting to be. Selected they
would not shock me to see either of the them
get drafted ahead of Saduor. Sanders AND i think that
there's a lot OF nfl teams out there who are
going to View Shaduar sanders as a, liability as a,

(46:10):
distraction all the media, hype all the you, know Is
dion gonna walk in at some point in, uh you
know and try to kind of push his way.

Speaker 3 (46:18):
Around. Uh you.

Speaker 4 (46:19):
KNOW i think all of these different factors are WHY
nfl teams are just, like you know, what peace on that.
Idea i'm. Out we have no interest in adding a
player that is going to distract from the. Team AND
i don't think that that's really fair To Shduear sanders
or his, Father Dion. Senners but at the same, time
it's just the reality of.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
It, well it's the bed they've. MADE i, mean you
sleep in the bed you've. Made AND i think that's
the problem is that you, know you, know we talked
To Nick sheridan just a little while. Ago if you're
just joining, us we talked to the offensive coordinator quarterbacks
Coach Nick sheridan At, alabama And kaitlin De boor was
also What washington is a tight ends coach and Coach
Jalen miller Mill over last, year we talked To Jalen.
Milroll will hear from him coming up at the top
of the hour the press, conference you get, Seat you're

(46:59):
gonna love when you hear this. KID i, mean you're
gonna absolutely fall in love with. HIM i, mean says
all the right, things you, know says what you want to,
hear talks. About you, know basically from his, Standpoint, Hey
i'm gonna come in here and, Learn i'm gonna work,
Hard i'm gonna do all these. THINGS i think when
you have at this, point unless It's, pittsburgh which is
really the one place maybe he could go and compete

(47:19):
right now for a starting, position you're talking about a
guy that's gonna come in and have to basically humble,
himself be a, backup, learn be a good, teammate be
a guy in the film, room all those. Things and
the reality is is he has not shown to be
the type of guy that's team first, guy which is
all those things we just, described, humble which certainly he's.

(47:42):
Not and The Dion factory h talked about it last.
NIGHT i mean a guy that probably wants to be
in THE nfl at some point as a head. Coach
i'll give you another, one a weird, one this one man's.
OPINION i could be completely wrong, here BUT i think
perception is reality. Sometimes the whole Hubbub and you, know
people getting up in arms about The jersey retirement thing

(48:06):
with With Schudor sanders And Travis. Hunter, well one guy
won A. Heisman yeah that that those those do get
your number, Retired like that's a different level of. Good
but the other guy was a sub five hundred quarterback
and one in seven to one and nine against top
twenty five. Teams he has number. Retired like if you're
AN nfl team and you're looking, around going, AH i don't, know, Man,

(48:27):
like why would you want to have that distraction in?
There why would you want to have all of that
there as your backup? Quarterback, Yeah i'll go back years
ago because you brought up the Name Colin kaepernick last,
night AND i was thinking about this driving home last.

Speaker 3 (48:40):
Night.

Speaker 2 (48:40):
ROB i thought it was a good comparison because, when
oh my, god new, roster this exciting. Stuff let's, go
huh new?

Speaker 3 (48:49):
Roster? When? When?

Speaker 2 (48:53):
When When Colin kaepernick was out and, available and the
whole thought, Was, hey you Know, Seahawks Pete carroll's going
to talk to, Him Pete el's gonna you, know they
should bring him in here and all. That they had
an established starter already In Russell. Wilson and that was
Before russ went Sideways, russ, right that was before all
that stuff.

Speaker 3 (49:08):
Happened AND i.

Speaker 2 (49:10):
Believe at the time now they may have had a
need for a backup because maybe it Was boykan or
one of the guys that couldn't play was a, backup
BUT i think it was it was Post. Tavarus But, rob,
like why would you bring that in unless you're gonna
be the starting? Quarterback why would you bring in all the,
headaches all the, distractions all the questions that would come with.
That why would you you, know maybe there were, guys

(49:32):
there would be guys in this locker room that Wanted
Colin kaepernick to, start you know, THAT i mean because
they were if for no other, Reason rich and others sure,
him they were Anti. Russ, Ye so why would you
bring that? In, well it goes back if you can.
Play Mike green's a good. Example the edge rusher From
West virginia, right. Yep you lead the nation in sacks last.
Year did got some allegations against him off field, Activity

(49:56):
he's denied. It titan said they did all their due.
Diligence he can play. Cam he's gonna step on the
field right away and be the impact. Guy you'll deal with,
that right, YEAH i don't know if you want to
deal with the other.

Speaker 4 (50:06):
Stuff well that's the thing is that, again if if
teams felt confident That Shadull sanders was gonna be able
to come in and, play you, know compete for starting
reps at the quarterback, position then he would be off
the board at this. Point distractions be, damned they still
would take. Him but THERE i think that there is
this belief now that that maybe he was a little

(50:27):
bit of a product of the. System and and that's
one of the things that, uh you know THAT i
was excited, about uh with With Shaduur sanders is because
he did make strides this past, year AS i, mentioned
leading the country and completion. Percentage and this wasn't some
gimmicky college. OFFENSE i mean his offensive. Court While Dion
sanders is obviously his head, Coach Pat schumer was his offensive.

(50:50):
Coordinator now the Name Pat schumer is. Familiar it should
be because he was a three TIME nfl head. Coach so,
again this is a guy that has been successful in
a pro style. OFFENSE i, mean that's. Undeniable and while
he certainly had an elite talent at the wide receiver
position In Travis, hunter The Heisman trophy, winner at the same,

(51:10):
time there wasn't a lot of talent around. Him so
again that's one of the reasons WHY i and many
many others Had Shuduur sander's rank so. Highly but, again
at the same, time if it doesn't matter how good
you were at the college, level if you don't have
the traits THAT nfl teams believe are critically important at,
quarterback then why select that Player when this is a

(51:32):
draft that is very good along the line of, scrimmage
that has some dynamic talent at wide, receiver running. Back
just move. On and so, ultimately WHAT i GUESS i
would kind of wrap this, up at least in my
thoughts On Shador sanders IS i don't think that this
is anymore about THE nfl team that has a whole at,
Quarterback like as we've talked About Pittsburgh, steelers are one

(51:54):
of the only teams right now that feel like on
paper that they have a whole at, quarterback and maybe
they don't actually have a hole because maybe there's already
basically an agreement in place With Aaron rodgers or whatever
the case might.

Speaker 3 (52:05):
Be actually up. There that's a hell of a.

Speaker 2 (52:07):
Point that's a hell of a point because if that's the,
case ain't no way they're drafted.

Speaker 4 (52:12):
Exactly and that's the.

Speaker 3 (52:13):
THING i don't know what your backup and be done with.

Speaker 4 (52:16):
It and that's the Mason and especially when the quarterback
class is upcoming year looks like it's going to be
a very good. ONE i, mean there's some speculation that the,
theory well there's some there's some talk out there that that, maybe,
uh some teams might be looking to kind of tank
a little bit this season Because Arch, manning there's so
much excitement about, him uh and some of the other

(52:36):
quarterbacks that are. Available and that's my er lsu as
a legitimate. Player so, again there there is some excitement
about this upcoming year's quarterback class that there wasn't for this.
Year so WHAT i would kind of leave on this
note is THAT i don't think it's so much about
THE nfl teams that have a need for a, quarterback
it's who is the, coach who's the head, coach the

(52:58):
general manager that is secure enough in their job that
they're not worried about taking a player who is a
little bit of a. DISTRACTION i mean to, me there's
only maybe a handful of coaches in general manager combinations
that are so, established so safe in their position that
they would be willing to take on a distraction like.

(53:18):
THIS i, mean who has that type of juice to
use that word, AGAIN i mean to, Me Mike. Tomlin
that's one of the reasons why we keep Mentioning Pittsburgh
steelers Because tomlin has that type of. INFLUENCE i think
In pittsburgh he is that type of a. LEADER i
Think sean McVay for The La, RAMS i think That Kyle, shanahan,
Certainly John schneider And mike. McDonald but at the same, time,
again this is a team That harry has five quarterbacks

(53:40):
in the. Roster they're not going to go that route,
anymore you, Know so there's only so many guys out.
THERE i just have a hard time imagining a scenario
which a first year coach like. A Kellen moore To
New Orleans saints that they would be willing to roll
the dice in a quarterback like, this even though there
might be a perception that they need help with the quarterback.
Position top of.

Speaker 2 (53:59):
There at ten, o'clock we'll take a quick, break we'll come.
Back we'll hear from The seahawks. Quarterback selected for just
the third time Under John, schneier third time in sixteen,
years The seahawks took a, Quarterback Jalen milroll From. Alabama
is that man we heard from him last. Night seahawks,
fans if you weren't listening at nine o'clock last night
for the first, time you'll hear from the New seahawks,

(54:20):
Quarterback Jalen mille when we come back in ninety three
