fun A five in one week.

I haven't seen it when I've been out to the

heard they do have Washington gear.

But I think the finest.

Yeah, Sonics, we got some sonic stuff. We got some

Simply Seattle dot com. Chris Crawford is here, Nathan Bishop
is here, We're all here, the gang's all here. Let's
have some fun. Fellas a lot to talk about. Since
we were last on a couple significant injuries. We'll get

(01:23):
to that as a show goes on. Nathan's excited about
the call up yesterday. We'll get to that as well,
But let's just start with a gosh, we were all
hoping for a four and two week five and one.
When it's all said and done, and as we always say,
all we do is react to the week that just happened,
whether it be bad or hey good, Nathan, fire away.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
You know, Chris and I were talking off air. I
think the thing that this past weekend, specifically, we can
talk about that Astro series more if we want to.
I think the Murderers were to be generous, extremely fortunate
to come out with a series win against the Astros
because they did not play particularly well. But this past weekend,
you guys, this was a proof of concept. This was
a proof that this team can play well on both

(02:08):
sides of the ball against another good opponent and come
away with a badly needed sweep. I can't they didn't
need to sweep the Rangers in order to make this
a good week, but they were in danger of things
getting out of control had they been swept. So it's
about as positive as we could be given the way
that the season had started a week ago. I'm very

(02:29):
encouraged by some trends I'm seeing on the offense right now.
Not that I think this is going to be an
amazing offense, but you're seeing significant improvement over where they
were this time last year. I think that the offense
looks closer to what it was last September than last April.
And if this team can have a middling to slightly
average offense, they should be pretty good this year. So

(02:51):
lots to like. There's still tons of things that I'm
worried about on this roster, which I'm sure we'll break down.
But right now, as you said, Ian, we're reacting to
what happened. They were five and one. I've got plenty
of complaints, but why would I hear them right now.
I'm sure they'll screw up another week in the future
and I'll get to do my on brand complaining. But
for now, very very good week.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
Christopher Crawford from mile Y.

Speaker 6 (03:12):
Yeah, I mean that was fun. It was fun to
watch Seattle Mariner baseball over the weekend. It was a
terrific sports weekend. Just one of my all time favorite weekends.
Just usually the Mariners are sort of middling based on
my life history, but you know, when you get the
Masters weekend like you do, and you do get a

(03:33):
Mariner sweep, it's very hard to complain. I think that
Nathan hit the nail on the head to that is
to proof of the concept, or another way to put it,
I think is we have seen the floor of this
team when you take a look at how they played
against the Giants and how they played for most of
the series against the Tigers. But now you see the
ceiling of this team. You see a team that is
capable of pitching itself to victories, coming up with timely hits. Gosh,

(03:58):
big Dumper, what an absolute stud of a player and
so great to see him driving the baseball. Julio with
a couple of multi hit games the triple. It's just
been fun to watch the Seattle Mariners over this last week,
and I think it's huge to be able to go
five and one to get back to five hundred. And yes,
we've played almost exactly one tenth of a season, so

(04:19):
we can't go two nuts either way, but I think
getting back to five hundred before this nine game road
trip was a big thing.

Speaker 3 (04:27):
It's basically a blank slate. Now you're starting back.

Speaker 6 (04:30):
Over, and you're starting back over with a little bit
of momentum, which may be a little bit hypocritical to say,
but you've taken the positives and now you get into
this three city tour that you're going to be playing.

Speaker 3 (04:42):
It's a good time to be a Seattle Mariner fan.

Speaker 4 (04:44):
Let me start Chris Chris Crawford, Nathan Bishop, Small Lot Monday,
brought to you by Simply Sell Simplysell dot Com. Well,
let's just go with a couple of the stars of
the week. If this was the hockey world that I
live in, at least you know our three stars of
the week, I would I would venture to say the
first star is Cal raw and you know, three straight
home runs but also big ones as well.

Speaker 2 (05:03):
Right, it's like you.

Speaker 4 (05:05):
There's the we joke about it on this show all
the time, my show, especially the radio show. You know,
the Richie Sexon home run, which was always a solo
shot in the you know, top bottom of the ninth
when your team's down seven to one, makes it a
seven to two game. Pictures are just throwing strikes. And
that's the Richie sex And home run. That's not a
lot of fun. Okay, like that just that doesn't mean anything.

(05:27):
The opposite of the Richie Sexon home run might be
the big dumper home runs, sure, because it feels like
every time he hits a home run, it's a big
home run, like it has. It's not just hit a
solo shot in the third inning. No, No, when he
hits them, they seem to matter. It started on Friday, obviously,
and uh and was it Friday, Thursday, Thursday, Friday, Friday, Yeah, yeah, Friday,

(05:49):
I got it, Yeah, I got it started off Friday.
I continue, I guess Friday, Saturday, Sunday. That would be
three days in But Chris myth it is. It's radio
math and kog math, and it's not good.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
It really is.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
We go well kuks we go in increments of six six,
well eighteen pack or a case and back in the day,
that case of Heidelberg was four ninety nine.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
I digress, Chris.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
We throw around terms like superstar, probably frivolously sometimes, But
in the case of cal Raly, I don't know if
he's a He's not a superstar maybe yet in the
world of baseball, but he might be a Seattle superstar.

Speaker 2 (06:28):
What does he mean to this team so much?

Speaker 6 (06:30):
And you know, it's funny you bring up the three
star thing, because is there any baseball player that gives
you more hockey energy than cal Rawley does that he's
the goaltender for the team, but he is also that
guy who provides such huge offense as well, Like I
just don't think we can overstate how important he is

(06:51):
for this baseball team. And man, getting to see him
at least for the next six years is so wonderful
because even if there's agression with the offense coming or
regression with the glove and you move him to DH
and I think if cal ralely focus just on offense,
I think it would be a really really, really good
offensive player. Like there's just so much power in that bat.

(07:14):
And I think if you had to do that, but
you don't because he's such an awesome defensive player. But
it's just the the aura, you know, just the presence
and the you always feel good when he's at the plate.
Like I will be honest, I am the biggest Julio
Rodriguez fan in the world. There are times where I
don't feel great about Julio Rodriguez at the plate. There

(07:35):
are times where I'm like, uh, oh, slider's coming. It's
gonna be a tough one. And that's not an insult
to Julio. It's more of a compliment to cal Ralely
that even if I know or feel like the strikeout
is coming, it's gonna be a six pitch strikeout where
he makes the guy work a little bit, or it's
going to be something where he is able to get
the runner to move over. It doesn't always happen, but

(07:55):
it's that gut feeling. So it's as much internal as
it for me as it is what he gives to
that team. Long story short, God blessed col Ray because
it is so fun to watch him play, and we
should be super thankful that he took a discount to
stay with the Seattle Mariners.

Speaker 2 (08:13):
It's awesome, Nathan.

Speaker 5 (08:15):
You know, I think we've been doing this show for
too long because Chris and I are starting to have
the exact same words in our brain before we even
say because or was the word that was in my head.
The only thing bigger than that guy's backside is his aura,
because I think that it is the heartbeat that drives
this this entire roster right now. I think that, you know,
I love, God bless the starting pitchers in this rotation.

(08:38):
They are the best part of this team as far
as just skill. But pitchers don't They don't run a clubhouse.
They don't drive a team forward daily because they don't
play every single day. They're not the same as position players.
And there's something special about a catcher too. It is
kind of that goalkeeper that captain. There's a reason that
so many managers end up being ex catchers. There's just

(08:58):
a different way that enmeshed in every single part of
the sport, and the maritors have. I look, if you
want to say that Ali Rushman or maybe one or
two other guys are the best catcher in baseball, fine,
I'll hear it out. But if I say Cal Rawley
is the best catcher in baseball. I'm not wrong. No,
there's no way that you can say that that is

(09:19):
a factually incorrect statement. And I want to agree with
everything that Chris said, because when that guy is at
the plate, the feeling is not necessarily that he is
going to come through every single time, but he is
going to make the pitcher's life hell one way or
another trying to get him out, and more often than not,
it feels like he gets a great outcome. Chris, you
have something to add.

Speaker 6 (09:40):
I just have one thing to add, Seattle Mariners, stop
trying to force the big Dumper on us, as if
it's like the big Dumper. No, his name is Big Dumper,
and it's because he's got a fat butt.

Speaker 3 (09:52):
He's got cakes. We appreciate him for that.

Speaker 6 (09:55):
Stop trying to make it like, oh, no, it's the
big Dumper, like he's so strong, he's a dump ruck. No,
it's because he's got a fat ass and we love
his fat ass.

Speaker 5 (10:03):
Embrace the donk.

Speaker 2 (10:04):
Mariners. Uh, you guys are a treat.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
And know we call it cakes. This is what call him.
He's got cakes for days.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
He's That's the kind of commentary you can't get on
any other show. So no like separating ourselves from the market.
Right here we are you guys are, yes, big industry leaders.

Speaker 2 (10:22):
I can't.

Speaker 4 (10:23):
I like the fact that Chris is telling us what
the kids say. I none of us are kids. You know,
A couple of us have kids. But even I don't
know if I've heard him say that. If I said that,
my son would laugh at me. All right, let's uh,
let's hey, in all seriousness, what okay? We I think
I talked about this with one of my other baseball
guys during the week last week or two weeks ago.

(10:45):
The whole Chris, the whole torpedo bat thing that that
came up this week with Big Dumper.

Speaker 7 (10:51):
Is that a thing?

Speaker 2 (10:52):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (10:52):
Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 6 (10:53):
Well here's where it's mostly the thing you can talk
about all the surface area. It's about the confidence that
you have swinging the stick. Like the ability to feel
confident that you're going to make hard contact is such
an important part of hitting and it's worth pointing out.
And I think Dave Valley brought this up that he's

(11:13):
not swinging that stick when he's sitting from the right
side because he's not comfortable yet with how he feels
with that having the comfort having a comfortability with that
bat is a huge part of it.

Speaker 3 (11:25):
But it's also just like there's so much more service area.
There's so much better of a chance of you barreling
the baseball with these torpedo bats. It's absolutely something that matters.
I hope more and more players are swinging these in
practice until you feel comfortable with them, because they're probably
gonna get banned in a couple of years, so you
might as well enjoy them while you can. But yeah,

(11:48):
it's the comfortability and just the fact that there's so
much surface area on these bats.

Speaker 2 (11:53):
Nate Jet want to add something before I move on.

Speaker 5 (11:55):
Oh, I just really hope they don't ban them, because
everything in modern baseball tilted towards the pitcher's advantage. It's
so exciting to see something come to kind of even
a little bit even out the field. This is like,
you know, allowing a defense to actually play defense in
the NFL for once without coming up with seventeen different
ways you can't touch the quarterback during an offseason, Like
we're finally seeing a little bit of a shift back
towards an offensive player getting an advantage. So I hope

(12:18):
they don't ban it's it's a it makes the game
more fun in my opinion, and that's a win for everybody.

Speaker 4 (12:23):
I want to want Monday brought to my Simply Shadow
simply shaddle dot com. Nathan Chris were here. Okay, I
want to touch in on a topic we had last week.
It kind of ended up being, you know, sports radio
hot topic last week a little bit on our station,
Huil Rodriguez did an extended interview with Hugh Millen and
Dave Sofsey Maller. We played some of the cuts on Friday.

(12:44):
I admittedly I have another job. I didn't listen to
the interview. I listened to the long form cuts on Friday.
We went through it to Andrews and I Awnders and
I went through it on Friday, listened to it, you know,
and I know our Midday New Midday guy Mark James
a little bit critical of who others have been critical
of Julio. I resist being critical of Julio outside of

(13:05):
the fact I'd like to see him start better, a
season better. I guess maybe he is starting this season
by his standards, slightly better. Still, probably not to his level,
although he's got multi hits in the last couple of games.
You know it's on base percentage is okay thanks to
Walks as batting average is awful. His ops is right
around average, maybe a little below average, et cetera. Chris,

(13:28):
I'll start with you if in your other world, your
other jobs, rotal world mile why but just especially if
you're talking to other guys around the country. I know,
by the way, shout out to Joe Shean, who joins
us on Tuesdays, gave Chris Crawford a shout out. I
like that guy I follow all the time, check his
stuff out. But if Joe Shean or somebody else says, hey, Chris,
who and what is Chris? Is Julio Rodriguez, how do

(13:51):
you answer that?

Speaker 6 (13:52):
It's a good one. By the way, I have to
give you guys a ton of credit. I listened to
that conversation while I was driving around, and it was
the rare KJR base segment that didn't make me want
to punch people. So I was very proud of you
guys for handling that very very well. It's interesting because
the national perspective of Julio Rodriguez is that he is
an incredible talent, but that he does still have a

(14:14):
lot of things to work on, and you know what,
there are a lot of things still for Julio Rodriguez
to work on.

Speaker 3 (14:20):
There's a.

Speaker 6 (14:24):
We've been kind of spoiled by how good a lot
of young players have been in baseball, like Juan Soto
and Ronald d'acunya and Mike Trout. Outside of his first
portion of Major League baseball, where he was just absolute
ten pounds of crap in five pounds bag, he was
excellent after that portion of his campaign or his first campaign.

(14:44):
There's a perception that young players are just supposed to
be these elite guys. And sure, Julio Rodriguez has more
experience than a lot of these guys, but age matters.
He's still a twenty four year old. He's not going
to be a twenty five year old until the very
end of December. But the national perspective is is this
guy has a chance to be a superstar, Like this

(15:04):
is a guy who's already had two top ten MVP
finishes and is some of that based on his defense,
of course, like a lot of it is based on
his defense, But this guy's put up above average offensive
seasons every single year he's played, and we also have
to get used to a seven to fifty five OPS
used to be a barely middling number. If Leo Rodriguez

(15:26):
posts a seven to fifty five OPS with the defense
that he plays, he's going to be about a five
win player. And there are not a whole lot of
five win players in Major League Baseball anymore, not consistently anyway.
So to answer your question, and the national perspective is,
Julio Rodriguez has a chance to be one of the
MLB greats, as a chance to be a future Hall
of Famer, but still needs to take that next step

(15:50):
before he's considered that top five player in baseball.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
He's not there yet.

Speaker 6 (15:55):
He's probably already a top fifteen player in baseball just
because of what he gives you with the glove and
what he gives you on the basis. But there is
that chance for more, and I don't blame fans for
being a little frustrated that he's not more yet. But
I think it's coming and we should still be very
appreciative of what Julio Rodriguez has given the Mariners.

Speaker 2 (16:15):
Nathon.

Speaker 5 (16:17):
Well, look, we've talked about Julio ad nauseum on this
show but based on the broader conversation that was being
had last week, here's here's the two outcomes. If you're
focusing on the negatives of Julio Rodriguez's game, and you
have a platform and you're using it to focus on
those negatives, there are two potential scenarios. One you're just
leveraging outrage for attention, or two you don't know ball.

(16:40):
So that's the two potential things here. You either are
just pretending that he's bad so that you can get
people upset and get engagement, something that I do online
all the time, so I know it when I see it,
or you don't know anything about baseball, and that's also
perfectly fine, and if you don't, you should just be
adding it. Be honest and say I'm not a baseball guy,
but here's what I see. And maybe you could listen
to a conversation like this show where we all know

(17:01):
ball and we can appreciate Julio Rodriguez and we don't
just need to see a guy coming into Chris's point,
be Mike literally Mike Trout and be a ten win
player at the age of twenty, because Julio Rodriguez is
not Mike Trout is not a shot at Julio Rodriguez.
Nobody is Mike Trout, nobody is Won Soto. If that's
the standard you're going to hold Julio two, you're never
going to be satisfied as a baseball fan. And if

(17:22):
you can't consider the idea that a guy who is
average offensively to slightly above average can still be a superstar, again,
you don't understand the way that defense works. You don't
understand the way base running works. You don't know ball,
and that's frankly not my problem. You need to get
educated and learn why this guy is great.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Hell yeah, his We.

Speaker 4 (17:42):
Brought it up on Friday because I don't know ball,
but I know how to look things up, and they
have cool stuff that you know. Alex Mayor and the
Mariners provides some pretty good information. Julio's war in his
career as a center fielder is fourth all time at
his age. In his experience, the guys ahead of him
one guy played in nineteen twenty, and even though I

(18:04):
was close to being around, I don't remember him. The
other guy's names were Mazed, Dimagio, and Trout.

Speaker 3 (18:10):
Heard of him.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
They're good company. I think they're good at baseball. I believe.

Speaker 4 (18:14):
I could be wrong, but I think those guys are
good at baseball. Like it's higher than Griffi's was. Yeah, Yeah,
he was really good at baseball. I think as a
center fielder.

Speaker 2 (18:23):
I believe.

Speaker 5 (18:24):
And you're going to use war Ian like Ward is
one stat And we've also talked in this show about
how it's just one way to measure things. But since
Julio broke in twenty twenty two, by war there are
four players in the American League that have been better
than him. It's Aaron Judge, Bobby Witt, Jose Ramirez, and
Jordan Alvarez. And that's it. That's the entire list. And
that's the who's who of the best players in the

(18:44):
American League. So that's the kind of company that Julio
was keeping.

Speaker 4 (18:48):
Well think about this when he was you know, I
I bring this up all the time just for people
that are new to the Malliwap Mondaday World. We started
at Malliwap Monday because former President Kevin not current President
Kevin may Mather or not Martinez was the one that
you know, took a shot at Julio could he can't
speak English, and this and that, among other things he did.
That's where I first met met Chris and Nathan courtesy

(19:10):
of Ryan Divish, introducing us through Kevin Shockey.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
What a world we live in now? Right?

Speaker 5 (19:14):
They both had to skip town?

Speaker 2 (19:15):
No, they did.

Speaker 4 (19:17):
They both the hell out of dots after that. But
remember that, and that's what it was. Well, part of
the thing was there was a legitimate question, can he
play center field?

Speaker 8 (19:25):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yeah, wasn't that question, Chris, can you play center field?

Speaker 3 (19:29):
It wasn't even a question. It was like, this is
a silly idea.

Speaker 6 (19:32):
And now he's become one of the best defensive players
in baseball, and he doesn't get nearly enough credit for
how hard he worked to become a great center fielder.

Speaker 2 (19:40):
That's the thing is.

Speaker 4 (19:41):
And last I check, that's that's a fairly difficult outfield
position to play, right, if I'm not mistaken.

Speaker 6 (19:48):
Right, hasn't exactly been given the benefit of the doubt
of having great corner outfielders next to him either. He
has had to cover a like watching Luke Rayley let
that ball fly uh next to him? And I heard
a bunch of people online blaming Julio Rodriguez for an
obvious flyball to the right fielder, Like he has had
to cover so much ground and done it. You know,

(20:11):
there's been a few defensive gaffs here and there are
no you occasionally make a throw that's not exactly picturesque,
but like he has become one of the very, very
very best defensive players in baseball. And we were talking
about him being a corner out fielder coming up literally
until he started playing centerfield.

Speaker 2 (20:28):
Yeah, that's that's the thing.

Speaker 4 (20:29):
I just I think we're, you know, in a town
that's you know, void of true superstars in all of
our sports. I mean, you can't really find one with
the Seahawks, you can't really find one with this, with
the Kraken for sure, and there's the Mariners are hoping
to have some maybe the pictures at some point we'll
get to that level. None of them want to say
young last I checked, and you know, the only one's

(20:50):
been an All Star since coming to Seattle. That'd be
Logan Gilbert if I'm not mistaken, right, So, you know,
Julio isn't there yet. Col's not there yet. But the
runway is still pretty long for those guys, and we
should be we should be enjoying what they're doing in
my opinion, along the way again, not that there is
a criticism available, like Julio needs to be better at

(21:13):
the start of seasons. He needs to, But I mean
last week they won that game on Wednesday because of
one guy. I mean, I mean a Rose Raina hit
the Grand Slam. But Juio's that bat oh so good?

Speaker 2 (21:25):
Right?

Speaker 6 (21:26):
I wick we could have mollywat Monday that day so
bad because that's as good a piece of hitting as
I've seen from a Seattle Mariner in so long. That
was such a well located pitch. And to be able
to drive that ball into the rights into right field
with ninety nine miles for our exit velocity on the
pitch where he was basically off balanced. There's very few

(21:46):
baseball players who can do that.

Speaker 4 (21:48):
All right, take a break. We'll come back and do
a quick short segment to wrap things up. I'll let
Nathan make the big announcement on the roster move the
Mariners made yesterday on that and we'll come back with
more brot to by simply sattle to some moll want
Monday coming up next.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
You're listening to the Home of the Huskies, the Kraken
and Seattle's best NFL Draft coverage Jen the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft. Now back to Ian furnesz probably brought
to you by Snowball Me Casino on Sports Radio ninety
three point three kJ R FM.

Speaker 4 (22:26):
All right, moll, we want abn to continues with Nathan
and Chris, brought to you by Simply Seattle, Simple Seattle
Dot Calm. All right, boys, Nathan, what was the Do
you want to go ahead and make the roster move
made official yesterday by the bar?

Speaker 5 (22:38):
Sure we haven't even talked about Yeah, we didn't even
talk about Ryan Bliss going down with a bicep tear,
which is obviously a really, really, really tough outcome for
a guy who had had a promising start to the season.

Speaker 2 (22:48):
Uh.

Speaker 5 (22:48):
As the Marriers realize that they have possibly the least
talented infield in Major League Baseball, they have decided to
call up a future utility man, Ben Williamson from Tacoma,
who I think has just a handful more at bats
than Mike Sanino did before he was rushed to the
big leagues in twenty fifteen. As always, the caveat for

(23:09):
me with these things is I'm happy for the kid
anytime somebody makes the major league roster, it's a huge,
huge accomplishment for them and their family. I hope he
does really, really well. This seems really really rushed to me.
I'm not a huge fan of Ben Williamson's skill set
at third base. He has, as I was corrected last week,
four professional home runs, not five. I believe one of

(23:29):
those was inside the park. He is going to struggle
to slug more than three point fifty at the major
league level. But I also think, and this is when
we were talking about Jerry Depoto being an evil saw
puppet the designs intricate torture devices to make my brain
go crazy, I also think he makes the major league
team better because he is so good at defense at

(23:50):
third base, and this team has no infielders, so it's
at least gonna be something fun. He is going to
make Chris will know I have a much more in
depth scouting report, but having watched somehighlights, he will make
your jaw drop on defense at third base. Probably this
week you're going to see a play that you have
not seen since at least Kyle Seeger and probably closer
to Adrian Beltra years at third base for your Seattle Mariners.

Speaker 4 (24:13):
All right, Chris, give us a scouting report on Ben
Williamson with I think less than two hundred minor week
get bats, but glove is what they're looking for right now.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Yeah, I mean, he's just a.

Speaker 6 (24:24):
Such a marked improvement over what they will be getting
from if Jorge Polanca was healthy enough to play third base.
It doesn't matter if JORGEE. Polanca was as healthy as possible.
Ben Williamson is a massive upgrade defensively. This is a
guy who gets on the twenty eighty scouting scale seventy
grades with his glove, and he has a good throwing

(24:44):
arm as well his excellent instincts. He is a work
in progress offensively, and honestly that's a little misleading because
I think he might be kind of dumped veloping in
terms of what he is. But I do think he
has a go quality hit tool. I think he's gonna
put the ball in play. I think he's gonna be

(25:04):
the type of guy that you could maybe hit and
run with as he gets a little more comfortable at
the plates, you know, that type of guy that you
could put some runners in motion. And they have some
guys with some speed I'm just super grateful to the
Mariners giving Ben Williamson a chance because I can't watch
Miles Master, Bony and Luis Revos and the ghost of

(25:27):
Jeff Monto play third base for this team, man, I can't.
I can't do it. So watching an actual quality defensive
third base. And look, we've been spoiled in Seattle very little,
but we've been spoiled with two things. One great defense
in center field and two great defense at third base.
We have had Adrian Beltre, we have had Kyle Seger,

(25:48):
we have had Russ Davis. Just kidding, but we have
had lots of really good defense at third and I
need to see it, and Ben Williamson is going to
provide it. Run prevention is still the most important thing
for the Seattle Mariners. You can talk about the offense
and how it has to improve, of course it does,
but if they're going to win the Al West, if
they're going to make a run in the postseason, their

(26:10):
run prevention has to be as good as anyone. And
Ben Williamson should be able to help at least with
the run prevention, even if the offense is going to
be lackluster.

Speaker 4 (26:22):
Let me just point out you missed one in that list,
and that was former Mariner All Star one time all
started because every team had to have one, Jim Presley.

Speaker 2 (26:29):
But that's fine. I'll let you slide on that one.

Speaker 4 (26:33):
Yeah, I did appreciate the Russ Davis reference too. That
was perfect, all right, Nathan rollblists out for probably well
until July mid July, whenever you're right starting right field
or your leadoff hitter Bliss as you mentioned a four
A player. I think that was your tweet, So maybe
not as big a deal, but two significant injuries. I'll

(26:54):
let you take it wherever you want. What hurts the
most between what's happened and is Polanco just I'm throwing
a whole bunch of stuff at you. Is Plonco just
should we just resign to him being a DH?

Speaker 5 (27:05):
I think that Polonko's I think Jrgeo Polanco's best spot
is at DH for a couple of reasons. One, he
is just a disastrous defensive player. He's he was not
a good defensive second baseman, which is his natural position.
He's not healthy one hundred percent. And two he's one
of the few guys that has been absolutely raking since
day one. With this team and they need every bat

(27:26):
from him that they can possibly get, and if he
can stay healthy at DH, I think that's the best place.
I mean, Lord knows, you got to get your Mitch
Carver at bats in there somewhere, maybe Rowdy to Leslie's
to go down to DH or no, I'm just kidding.
Put Jorge Polanco at DH and let him take those
at bats. As far as the injuries, well, it's it's
two things. And maybe calling Ryan Bliss a quad A
players is not fair to Ryan Bliss. I think maybe

(27:46):
he's a little bit better than that. But again, I
like to ravel Rouse online. But I think that the
thing is Victor Ropus is a better player than Ryan Bliss,
So theoretically that injury is more impactful, except for the
fact that, as we're seeing with Ben Williamson's call up,
there's just no floor here for how bad this infield
can get, so losing an infielder to injury really gets

(28:07):
you into a tough spot with this organization. So I'm
gonna say the robust injury is more impactful and hurts,
but the encouraging thing is, unlike Bliss, it sounds like
Victor should be able to come back at least for
the second half of this season. But it's a tough spot.
This was a thin roster coming into the year. As
we've already talked about, they're already down, George Kirby. They
really can't handle any more significant injuries before the roster

(28:30):
is gonna start getting really sketchy.

Speaker 6 (28:32):
Chris, Yeah, I think the Robos injury is the bigger deal,
which is crazy to say, because you know, it seems
like just a natural thing to do to move Luke
Rayley to the outfield, but he's not a great defensive player,
and golly, to say that he is a platoon player
is such an understatement, Like he just flat out cannot

(28:52):
hit left handed pitching.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
Can't do it.

Speaker 6 (28:54):
Whereas Miles master Boney, who is played pretty decently. I think,
you know, I think he'd had a really big hit
in that game we talked about Wednesday, and I think
he looked solid with the glove. He has a purpose
on a roster. That purpose is not starting second basement
and Dylan Moore. You know, by the way, with all
of these injuries, and Dylan Moore is still not getting

(29:14):
every day playing time against right handed pitching. I think
it shells that the Mariners have very little confidence in
that being anything more than utility and platoon. You got
to go get a right handed hitting outfielder. It would
be the number one priority for me, because.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
Nobody in the miners right is David. I mean, Ken
Zone was a call up, so it's obviously got nobody down.

Speaker 3 (29:33):
There, right. Yeah, and that went super well.

Speaker 6 (29:38):
By the way, it's so interesting seeing Bliss and Canzone.
The Paul Seawall trade at the time one of my
least favorite, and while the results have not been disastrous,
they still hate that trade ever so much. Yeah, you've
got nothing in the farm system that's ready for right
handed hitting outfielder, and you got to probably get a
guy who can play every day because ideally, now you

(30:02):
move Rayley back to first base and you move Rowdy
to Les to somewhere else. I'm sorry, Like, I know
he hit the homer, and I know that the triple
was I love my triple b's, I love my big
beefy boys. I really wish this was working out. He's
just not a good enough hitter. He's not a good
enough hitter, and at some point the Seattle Manners are

(30:22):
going to have to move on, and you need to
go get a right handed hitting outfielder because Rayley's gonna
have to be your first baseman.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
All right, Nathan, fire away the week ahead? What are
we looking for? They have it today, they're off, then
they go to Cincinnati, Ohio.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
And after that, what is it? After that? It's it's
a Boston Toronto.

Speaker 4 (30:43):
Yeah, so the games we're worried about our Cincinnati and
then Boston.

Speaker 2 (30:47):
Nathan, what are you looking for?

Speaker 5 (30:48):
I'm fascinated by this Reds team.

Speaker 3 (30:50):
Man.

Speaker 5 (30:50):
They became the Seattle Mariners of the National League so
quickly and nobody even noticed. This team plays one nothing
games like it's going out of style. It's going to
be so interesting because that ballpark tradition is such a
hitters paradise. I again, I need to see a four
to two week I need to see some proof of
concept on the road. This team thrived at Tea Mobile
last year. They got their feet under them this week

(31:11):
at Team Mobile. They've only played three road games. I
want to see that run prevention model they're so good
at continue to hold up while they're playing against quality
opponents on the road, which I think the Reds are
no great shakes but they are not a bad team.
They are going to throw some real good arms at
the Mariners and they are going to challenge the hitters
and then Toronto. I mean, they are a very flawed roster,

(31:31):
but they've got some big upside bats in that lineup
and again on the road. I want to see the
starting pitching continue to keep this team in games. And
a thing to note and a trend that I'd really
want to see hold. Through sixteen games last year, Mariner
hitters struck out ten or more times in eleven of
those sixteen games. Thus far this year, they've only struck
out ten times in three games. I would love to

(31:54):
see that trend to continue. And obviously I want to
go four and two or better.

Speaker 2 (31:57):
Where can we find your work?

Speaker 5 (31:58):
Oh, I'm sorry. You can read my work at thelightbat
dot substack dot com two articles a week and a
podcast every other week. It is one percent free, Chris.

Speaker 6 (32:09):
So yeah, I want to see them go three and three.
I think three and three is fine. I just don't
want to see any type of sweeps like we saw
against the Giants. What I mainly want to see is
them not touch that chili in Cincinnati. That is absolutely
discussing you're a bad person. If you like Cincinnati Chili,
you can find my work at NBC Sports. You can

(32:32):
find my work at my oy my YouTube channel. Please

Speaker 4 (33:01):
Happy birthday Grandma at ninety five. Oh can we all
be around at ninety five? That'd be awesome, thank you.

Speaker 2 (33:07):
Yes.

Speaker 4 (33:09):

Is there a reason you're speaking in the Canadian Act?

Speaker 2 (34:55):
Now?

Speaker 4 (34:56):
Kings Kings Oilers tonight. Both teams have clinched a spot
in the postseason, but Edmonton is two points behind the
Kings and Andrews we can.

Speaker 7 (35:08):
Say something else. No, I was, I was setting you up.

Speaker 4 (35:11):
But Edmonton ninety nine points, the Kings one hundred and
one points. Edmonton has two games left to go, including tonight.
The Kings have three, including tonight and tomorrow, then one more.
If Edmonton, well, if the Kings win tonight, I would
expect to as much as you can do this time

of year, although they'll fake it with emergency call ups
and stuff. Probably a skeleton crew for the Kings tomorrow
against Seattle. David Riddick will being goal. Probably Edmonton wins

of an interesting game for the Kings, in a little
more needed one for tomorrow. If I mean second and
third you're in the division, I mean.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
How many matchups are all set in Stone Down? I
think just two? Just too.

Speaker 4 (36:28):
So I got to find a way to get the

fans come up to him. He gets really nice.

Speaker 7 (37:30):
I'll go ground, I'll go yeah, hey, hey, have some fun.
We're gonna go heckle the captain because he just like
try not to focus.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
Say I say, hey, this guy here hates all things LA,
especially the Dodgers.

Speaker 7 (37:44):
Yeah, the opposite, especially the Dodgers. Hates the Dodgers.

Speaker 10 (37:48):
We don't even know you.

Speaker 4 (37:49):
Yeah, he's a big giant San Francisco Giants guy.

Speaker 7 (37:52):

No Red's Toronto Boston. Right, it is correct, Thank you
very much. How about that though? Big Dumper, by the way,

(39:08):
home runs in three straight games using the torpedo bat
when he hits from the left side. I think it
is right one of the yes, that is correct. Okay,
wait are you telling me I got breaking news in baseball?

Speaker 2 (39:17):
What is it?

Speaker 7 (39:17):
I mean, I don't know if it's breaking newsworthy, but
we do have an a L player of the week
announced Dumper Dumper three straight home runs. It is none
other than Dumper former maritor ty France in Minnesota. Why
can't we have nice things?

Speaker 4 (39:34):
I don't know, because they get they're coming off a
second the baseball team coming off a five and one
week in a sweep of the Rangers.

Speaker 7 (39:43):
And what did you just tell me? Ty France is
your American League player of the week. Lovin hits two
of them runs six RBIs with a one point two
six to zero ops last week. That's good, that's fun.

Speaker 4 (39:57):
Okay, Rory won the Masters. Will talk up that with
Bobby Casper in a second cracking back. At tomorrow final
game of the season, they'll take on the Kings seven
thirty Drive of the Puck seven o'clock pregame with your
friend the Captain, Mike Benton. A WNBA draft takes place
today starting at four to thirty. Storm had the number
two pick. Paige Becker's from Yukon expected to go number
one overall. Haley van Lift is expected to also go

(40:18):
sometime in the first round. But I think picking the
Pride of Kashmir, right is that where she's from Cashmere,
I believe it might be a little bit of stretch
at number two. We'll see what they do. And that's
a four point thirty three thirty. If you're into the
w NBA draft. My friends at the Queen Anne Beer Hall,
we're having a big bash. Head on up there and
say hi to everybody. All right, hit the music well

(40:46):
last time, I guess technically we get to hear that
with this year the great theme from CBS and the
Masters music and it's mentioned in the headlines just a
second and go what what a day yesterday, what a
golf tournament, what a finish? History was made? And there's
we gotta check back in with our guy, Bobby Casper.
Real Golf Radio's joining us right now in transit somewhere

(41:07):
between Augusta National and Salt Lake City, which is his home. Bobby,
in between flights, thanks for joining us, my friend.

Speaker 7 (41:14):
How are you?

Speaker 11 (41:16):
I'm doing great? Ian Wow, what a day is?

Speaker 2 (41:18):
Right?

Speaker 4 (41:19):
I don't know how many of these you've been to.
You could tell me where does this one rank?

Speaker 7 (41:23):
Though, you know.

Speaker 11 (41:26):
When I was thinking about it, you know, twenty nineteen
was pretty cool when Tiger won and making his comeback
and getting another major ticking off off the box. But
I'll tell you this one was extra special, not only
because Rory finally got a screen jacket, but everything he
had to go through, the adversity, everything of that final round,

(41:48):
two shots swing on the first hole, two shots swing
on the fourth hole, back to his then also making
that double bogie on the thirteenth hole, coming in with
two birdies and making bogie on the last hole, and
then playing a phenomenal playoff hole on eighteen with a
drive in a gap wedge and making birdie. But to

(42:10):
sum that all up, it was also career Grand Slam,
which huge in the history or the Annals of Golf.
Only five guys have done it and now six with Rory. Yeah,
it was amazing, great, great, great Masters Championship.

Speaker 4 (42:25):
I'm trying to put into words I want to put
into words and maybe have you give like the non
golf fan, just the sports fan that maybe isn't a golfer,
maybe doesn't follow the sport, to put it in perspective. So,
as Bobby just mentioned, six career Grand Slams have been accomplished,

(42:45):
and that means winning the Masters, the PGA Championship, the
US Open, and the Open Championship aka the British Open.
Only it's only been happened six times. Last time was
Tiger what twenty four years ago, twenty five years ago?
I mean, so it's been a long time and for
someone to do that, I don't even know what the
comp would be in another sport, Bobby, but maybe you

(43:06):
can speak how challenging, how difficult it is. Golf's been
being played for well over a centuries, only happened six times.
It's an amazing accomplishment.

Speaker 11 (43:14):
Well, golf's an individual sport. You're not relying on the
rest of your team or anything. You have to get
it done yourself. And that's what's so amazing about it.
I mean, you got Jen Saracen, Gary Player, Ben Hogan,
Jack Nicholas Tiger Woods, and now Rory McElroy Tiger Woods
and Jack Nicholas both have two career Grand Slams basically

(43:36):
with their wins and their majors. But yeah, it's it's
you know, this is the only place where you go
back to every year and play at the same golf course.
All the other Grand Slam events are played at different
golf courses every year, although they rotate through and that

(43:56):
kind of thing. But it's it's a phenomenal f and
Rory's had an opportunity to knock this off eleven times
prior and hasn't been able to do it until this time.
And uh and you know he ends up beating his
his buddy Justin Rose in a playoff, just like my
dad beat his buddy from San Diego, Gene Littler in

(44:19):
a playoff, and uh, yeah, it's it's extra special. Brian
and Brian Taylor and I were standing in the media
area where they have where all the players come walking
up for scoring and we were there when when Rory
came walking in after he had won, and Shane Lowry

(44:39):
was standing there. Rory was balling, He had tears coming
down his face. Was there for his buddy to give
him a big, huge hug. And you know, some other
guys were there besides Justin Rose, a whole bunch of
Ryder Cup guys that he's played with and guys he's
played with on the DP World Tour. It was amazing
and it was very very touching as far as emotional

(45:03):
emotions are concerned. And you know, he cried in the
presentation with with Jim Nantz. He cried in there, got emotional.
Then he got emotional on the on the practice screen
when they did the green Jacket ceremony outside, and he
got emotional in the press room too. So this was
a big one for him. He gutted it out. He

(45:24):
was able to, as I said, kind of exercise the demons.
And now it's what's really going to be amazing is
to see what he's able to do. Because in the
press conference when he came in, he said, I got
a question for you guys, Now, what are we going
to talk about when we come back to Augusta. So
it's it was It was pretty cool and the patrons

(45:46):
as well as the media. Everybody loved what was able
to happen with the history and it's going to be
great for golf.

Speaker 4 (45:53):
Bobby Casper, Real Golf Radio joining us here on the
Beacon Plumbing hotline. Remarkable day for Justin Rose.

Speaker 7 (46:00):
Oh what was it?

Speaker 4 (46:01):
Six under par sixty six to get into that playoff?

Speaker 11 (46:05):
Did ye?

Speaker 12 (46:06):
Did?

Speaker 2 (46:06):
I mean? If? If?

Speaker 4 (46:07):
What would the what would the storyline have been if
Rose would have won in the playoff?

Speaker 11 (46:12):
You know, it would have been a Rory let it
slip away. I think it would have been the biggest thing,
especially on the on the the final Elite team and
on the thirteenth told when he hit it in the water.
But I you know, it would have been great for
Justin Rose. It was his twentieth start at the At

(46:34):
the Masters, Sergio Garcia won it in his nineteenth start,
so it had been the biggest amount of starts before
a champion. Uh and Tiger wanted on or not Tiger,
but Rory wanted on a seventeenth start, So yeah, it
would have been It would have been huge for Justin Rose,
especially coming off a second place finish at the at

(46:56):
the Open Championship last fall or last August and and uh, yeah,
it would have been great, but it was it was Rory's.
It was Rory's to win or lose.

Speaker 4 (47:07):
Bobby Casper a few more moments with US Real Golf
Radio bryceon d Schambeau started the day two shots back.
He actually, you know, uh pulled even right and uh
and actually took the lead. Yeah, won a shot ahead
after the second hole when he was eleven under and
Rory was ten under par. Rory doubles the first hole
and then I mean, ye, back and forth all day.
Did d Chambeau just I mean, did this his poor

(47:29):
striking of the ball catch up to him? What happened
to him? Because he's he ends up shooting a three
over seventy five, really was kind of out of it
by the time they got to the turn. He was
five shots back after the tenth hole. What happened to
d Chambau?

Speaker 11 (47:43):
Well, I think you know the thing was is he
was he was driving the ball relatively well. He was
chipping and putting well, but his iron shots into the
greens are what we're suffering. And so eventually that's going
to catch up to you, especially around Augusta where everything's
on a knife edge and you miss it one way
or another by five or six inches a foot, it

(48:03):
can it can create a birdie, or it can create
you know, an opportunity to save par, but but more
chance like making a bogie. So yeah, eventually it caught
up with him. It was it was pretty much smoking
mirrors for for the final round and he was able
to make make that you know, shot two shots swing

(48:25):
on the first hole, but then but then from there on,
it was it was really.

Speaker 7 (48:29):
Tough for him, Bobby.

Speaker 4 (48:31):
The pressure involved in this particular sport, as you mentioned,
an individual sport in which you only get a handful
of opportunities to I mean, winning a major puts you
in a different category as a golfer. Your dad knew that.
Everyone who's won just one major knows it. It puts you
in a different category as opposed to say he's in
ten time winner on the tour. That's great, but if

(48:52):
you haven't won a major, nobody cares. Grand Slam whole
new level, as we mentioned, only six times has been done.
But we saw the pressure that was involved. You're out there,
you've walked the course. Is there any other sport and
anything in another sport you can compare the pressure to
that Rory was facing yesterday.

Speaker 11 (49:10):
No, and the reason you can is what we've already said.
You're on your own that that eighteenth hole. Okay, he
misses the putt from about five or six feet in
regulation on the seventy second hole, and then and then
he's alone on an island. It's basically him to have
an opportunity to make the putt and wind. You know,

(49:33):
the atmosphere, the air is thick, you can cut it
with a knife. And he was able to settle his nerves,
he was able to go through his routine and he
was able to knock that four foot or in and
when when the green jacket. But yeah, it's it's you know,
it's it's like a time out in basketball. You know

(49:56):
who won? Three seconds left? Okay, who's going to take
the shot? You know, Michael wanted to shot, My dad
wanted the shot. He said, you can pour as much
of that nervousness and that tension and everything on me
because I thrived under that situation. And for the most part,
that's what those guys do. They've learned how to do it,

(50:16):
and Rory has two. It's just this one has eluded him.
For so long and he's been very, very close and
it's the last one that he needed for the career
Grand Slam, and he was able to get through it.

Speaker 4 (50:28):
TV numbers were really big over the weekend, especially yesterday.
People watch, they tuned in. It's history, we don't get
I mean, watching history. Even if you're a fan of
the game or not, it doesn't matter. It's I mean
just the amount of history and the pressure and everything
of all the emotion that he poured out at the end,
all those things. It just was a remarkable day for
the game of golf. There's no doubt final thing for you, Bobby,

(50:48):
just wrapping it up. I look ahead, des Chambeau. I mean,
I think he's about as polarizing a figure as there
isn't golf. It feels like watching it. He's really kind
of turned in to a fan favorite and people like
he can and I don't know, you tell me it
helped me out here.

Speaker 7 (51:05):
Is it real? Is it fake?

Speaker 4 (51:07):
Is this a guy that because he to me, he's
good for the game of golf. I wish he was
back on the regular tour. Hopefully we'll have some unifications
soon because to me, Bryson d Chambeau is a whether
he's a villain, whether he's the foil, whatever he might be.
Uh and again he fell And listen, his iron game
caught up to him. You talked about it earlier. It's true,
it wasn't going to be sustainable. The fact he was

(51:27):
in it was remarkable. Shows what a great player he is.
But does does golf need the Bryson D. Schambeaus of
the world in terms of personalities? And what's what does
he really like? Is it fake?

Speaker 12 (51:36):
Is it real?

Speaker 2 (51:37):
What is it?

Speaker 11 (51:38):
No? I think it. I think it's more so. It's
more so real now than it's ever been, simply from
the standpoint that he's endeared himself with social media, with
YouTube TV or not YouTube, his YouTube channel, everything that
he's doing to bolst to bolster his image and everything.

(51:59):
He's been through different renditions of himself. But this one's
a good one. This one's a good one. I haven't
always been a Bryson fan, but I I like Bryson D.
Chambeau now. And uh, and it's he's a guy that'll
be there. He's already he's already won two majors and
two US Opens And uh, and I think he's gonna
have an opportunity to win more. The interesting thing about

(52:21):
the next major that we're playing is the PGA Championship
at coyle Hollow. Rory's won there like three or four
times already at coyle Hollow, so that's could be a
good one for him. Then we got the US Open
at Oakmont that should be a great golf course for
him as well. And then they're playing in Northern Ireland
for the Open Championship. And although he didn't play there

(52:42):
a good lot the last time they played there and
Shane Lowry won, he has won a lot of junior
golf events and amateur events in the country of Northern
Ireland at that very golf course. So the majors are
setting up really really well for Rory. He's got the
girl up off his back now and I would expect

(53:03):
him to play really well the next for you as well.

Speaker 4 (53:05):
I would too, And I just I think going back,
I mean having a Rory guy and having Rory is
great for the game of golf. He's been the he's
carried the torch for the PGA Tour in the Battle
with Live and I think there's a ton of pressure
on him and I think it is a golf fan.
You got to appreciate what Rory did. I'm glad he
got his stuff accomplished. It's just I look through the
sport and you know, we need personalities. I think d
Schambau has that the best player in the world is

(53:25):
Scotty Scheffler, and he's just kind of he's seems like
a good enough guys just kind of bland right, just
goes out there and wins and plays great, doesn't have
a ton of emotion.

Speaker 7 (53:33):
Jordan Speith has too much emotion.

Speaker 4 (53:34):
He's yelling at grow or growers yelling back at him
as Caddy from gig Harbor out here, Grell telling him
at one point has caught up on the on the microphones.
You know, get over it, tells Jordan, get over it,
which I love, you know. I mean, he's combustible, but
he's good for the game of golf. You got guys
like Mari Cowell who don't want to talk to the
media and he's like, dude, stop it. Like you like
we need Rory, we need d Shambeau for those of

(53:55):
us that love the game and want to see it grow,
at least in terms of people watching it.

Speaker 7 (53:58):
We need guys like that.

Speaker 11 (54:00):
Yeah, and these two, these two because of this, what
they've what happened at the US Opened last year when
when Bryson won, and what happened now at the at
the Masters, these two were probably the closest to be
in rivalries that that we would have in the game
of golf. And maybe this will continue to build on
each other. But that's the interesting thing about golf is

(54:23):
you don't have teams again, you have individuals, so those
opportunities don't come around very often.

Speaker 7 (54:28):
Tell people about Real Golf Radio, sir, Yeah.

Speaker 11 (54:31):
Real Golf Radio. You can catch us on all our
podcasting sites, on iHeartRadio and on Saturday mornings from eight
to ten Mountain time on our affiliates Sports Byline and
also those podcasts.

Speaker 4 (54:48):
So I can tell you this as we and by
the way, you can't hear right now we're playing the
Masters music on the way out here as we say goodbye, Bobby,
we're playing we love that music. It's just it's a
beautiful sound. And Jess, I believe Real Golf Radio. You
can hear Chrusy the iHeartRadio app. Have you seen the
new ar Heart radio apps?

Speaker 8 (55:02):
And you know what I have if you know, it's
new and improved that you can reset your preset.

Speaker 4 (55:07):
You could actually preset you can Real Golf Radio Golf
Radio on the iHeartRadio app. So let's do that. Support
support Bobby, and support Brian. We will talk to you
before the PGA Championship. My friends, safe travels back to
Salt Lake City.

Speaker 7 (55:20):
Thanks Bobby, take care, Bud. I'm gonna play out.

Speaker 4 (55:29):
Hello friends, Hello friends, what a tournament it was yesterday.
Thank you Bobby for coming on. We appreciate that. Bobby Casper,
Real Golf Radio, Realgolfradio dot Com Again. You can hear
it on the iHeartRadio app The Master.

Speaker 7 (55:47):
I just can't hear this music without hearing Jim Nance.

Speaker 4 (55:52):
I gotta say, I'll go back one thing with what
happened yesterday. I think Rory's accomplishment, like a lot of
accomplishments and sports today are greater than the previous generations.
And this isn't a Lebron versus Michael debates or anything
like that. It's a The world that we live in

(56:13):
now is so much smaller. Globalization of most sports is
so much.

Speaker 7 (56:19):
Bigger, you know.

Speaker 4 (56:21):
I mean, I believe that Jack right, all the ones
won before Americans, right, that.

Speaker 2 (56:29):
Were what that won the Slam.

Speaker 7 (56:31):
Yes, he is the first international.

Speaker 4 (56:34):
Because because it's it's now we have his talent pool.
The point is this, the talent pool is that much
deeper in golf.

Speaker 7 (56:42):
And that's the case with a lot of sports, almost
every sport.

Speaker 4 (56:45):
Baseball guys that you know, we're playing thirty forty years ago,
by and large, I mean, it was a huge deal
when we finally broke the color barrier, right with both
Jackie Robinson then Larry Doby.

Speaker 7 (56:58):
But then like the Panese influence and.

Speaker 4 (57:01):
The Latin players, yeah, and Asian players, Latin players, et cetera,
and baseball that's changed. Basketball for sure has become a
really global sport now whether I mean it was a
big deal and Andrew Gays from Australia, the Olympic star
played in the NBA, right and Seton Hall. I think
is Ordy plays college ball anyway? Like that was now
Like look around the league you've had international players be

(57:23):
MVPs Johannest jo Kich guys like that. Right, So it
what Rory accomplished as an Irishman to beat the field
that he had to beat, which is deeper, better and frankly,
guys are just in better shape, you know. Like Rory's
Rory's pre pre tournament routine. He works out for an hour,
works up a lather before he goes out and hits

(57:45):
balls for a while. Bryson's a nut job.

Speaker 2 (57:47):
He hit.

Speaker 4 (57:48):
They showed a graphic yesterday how many balls he hit
on the practice range, like each round.

Speaker 7 (57:53):
It was crazy.

Speaker 10 (57:54):
I mean, are you worried about wearing that's crazy?

Speaker 4 (57:57):
Wearing terror would be what But see Bryson just they
showed some stuff on Live from the other day, like
he's hitting balls at eight fifteen at night on Walking Saturday,
ten pm and just like just and he's getting mad
about the you know, yeah, and there's a reason for that.
He solidly played gesture. Yeah, but yeah, I think what
Rory accomplished aes me to put a ball on it
is one of the most remarkable things.

Speaker 1 (58:18):
Really.

Speaker 4 (58:18):
In the last week, we've seen two of the most
remarkable things as sports, Wayne Gretzky's gold records broken in
the NHL, and for just the sixth time, in the
first time in two decades, a player wins the Grand
Slam in golf as well.

Speaker 7 (58:30):
So quite two questions or two things. One is a
question and then an observation. Number one, is he the
best non American golfer of all time? Rory McIlroy. Resume
says yes, I think so too. The resume says yes.

Speaker 10 (58:41):
I think now you can put that feather in the cap.

Speaker 4 (58:44):
Yeah the resume. The resume says yes. So I'm sure
those guys have won more tournaments.

Speaker 7 (58:47):
I have to look at the Faldo won six majors, right,
but Roy's won the career Grand Slam, and I think
that Trump said a little bit, it's five now, so.

Speaker 10 (58:55):
He's also like playing against the best of the best.
You know, do you get that Grand Slam? I think
it's harder.

Speaker 4 (59:00):
Yeah, I think the answer is yes, yeah, yeah, because
to win that fourth one is it's obviously one of
the hardest things to do in sports.

Speaker 7 (59:09):
Yeah, it is because of how few times it's happened, right.
And then the other thing was I made this observation
on Twitter right after it happened. But it's the first
time I've seen in any sport something where I know
there's a lot of adversity, like maybe throughout a season
for teams and players and things you have to overcome.
But I've never seen that amount of adversity in one

(59:30):
round one day for one person that he had to over.

Speaker 4 (59:34):
And I felt what Bobby said, there's like it's an
individual sport. Yes, Like we saw a couple epic meltdowns
where guys couldn't finish in the NCAA tournament, both Duke
and Houston, Right, both of those teams couldn't get it done.
But you're looking around and it's not just Cooper flag,
you know, one against five. He's got four teammates on
the floor. Houston's got four other guys.

Speaker 7 (59:53):
And one person doesn't perform, right, we'll pick you up.

Speaker 4 (59:55):
Yes, yeah, you have nobody, no one, your caddie can't
take that four foot hut for you.

Speaker 2 (01:00:01):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (01:00:01):
So that pressure and being clutched like that is his second.

Speaker 8 (01:00:04):
And that nineteenth hole, Yeah, I mean that is the
ultimate ultimate ultimate pressure.

Speaker 10 (01:00:10):
Literally old is watching you.

Speaker 7 (01:00:12):
Especially after you had missed the putt to win it
and not have to go back. I thought for sure
once he went to a playoff, I'm like, oh, he's
just done. He's losing it because that.

Speaker 4 (01:00:19):
Chance to win it, and it's like, yeah, when Rose
hit that second shot, yeah, and he's within ten feet
or so okay. So I'm like, Rory, can you answer that,
because this dude's gonna and when he missed it. I
Faine and I were talking about that earlier. I think
if if Rose hits that Birdie put on the set
in the playoff, I don't know if I don't know
if if Rory would.

Speaker 7 (01:00:38):
Have hit the putt. To me, it took ten years
to take the putt.

Speaker 12 (01:00:41):
My got it.

Speaker 7 (01:00:42):
Chailing is inner. Mike Benton there, who's that?

Speaker 8 (01:00:44):
Oh? Uh?

Speaker 12 (01:00:44):
Justin he is. It takes ten years to hit a shot.

Speaker 7 (01:00:48):
He is the king of Mike Benton.

Speaker 10 (01:00:51):
My god, Oh, you've broke with him at the y.
The staff gut together. I forgot about that.

Speaker 7 (01:00:56):
We could say that because it was Cary came right.
Let's take it. We'll take a break. Come back.

Speaker 4 (01:01:01):
Check the text line four nine, four or five one thoughts, comments, questions,
and concerns today.

Speaker 1 (01:01:06):
Next, you're listening to the Home of the Husky, the Kraken,
and Seattle's best NFL Draft coverage in the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft. Now back to Ian Fernetz, probably brought
to you by Snowball me Casino on Sports Radio ninety
three point three K j R F M.

Speaker 4 (01:01:40):
Man, I'll tell you, I'm a little bummed like stuff
and seal keeps closing like iconic kind of iconic places.

Speaker 7 (01:01:45):
You know where now Virginia Inn, which.

Speaker 10 (01:01:48):
Is a restaurant first, No, no, I looked at place.

Speaker 4 (01:01:51):
One hundred and twenty years least got terminated. I think
part of it is Pike Place people. It's it's a
it's an issue that the city needs to address when
iconic places the Merchant's Cafe almost did and they're renovating
and they reopen.

Speaker 7 (01:02:06):
I guess we lost the J and M years ago.

Speaker 4 (01:02:08):
Virginia, Like Virginia is one of those places if you
if you're old enough, you've been there a handful of times,
if you.

Speaker 12 (01:02:14):
Know, you know, you know, you know.

Speaker 10 (01:02:16):
I just it's and then Fido a while back, Yeah,
that one crushed my soul.

Speaker 7 (01:02:21):
Yeah, I just I don't know. Man, Let's come on
our city, let's get our blank together.

Speaker 4 (01:02:24):
By the way, before we go to text. Four nine
four to five to one CBS is a final round
of The Masters. Twelve point seven million viewers, thirty three
percent from a year ago, most watched since twenty eighteen,
even more than nineteen with Tiger. Yeah, it's ane of
the strongest without Tiger as well. Ever, and understanding that

(01:02:47):
how we consume television is so much different now that
those numbers are never going to be topped from all
those years ago because you have so many different options
like that. And yeah, so that speaks a million people
watching listen. I think we all like a couple of things, uh,
history and greatness, things like that, or maybe watching a
train wreck and that could have been all those things

(01:03:09):
everything into one, which it kind of was yesterday, especially
for the last forty five minute hour or so that
of that tern. Let's get to text four nine four
to five one on the still unnamed unrestricted free agent
right now is the text line.

Speaker 7 (01:03:23):
It's it's a UFA. If you want your business to
be like said every day, use text.

Speaker 8 (01:03:27):
On every single show and most shows. Yeah yeah, and
also I think our show not to hype us up
or anything. Really we go we embellish a lot on
whoever that.

Speaker 13 (01:03:39):
Text time, it's text time, text time, and it is
your time, it is our time.

Speaker 7 (01:03:45):
Yeah, Okay, what do we just got here? I saw
a few texts we fire away, fire away, We talked
about if was the best non American golfer. I forgot
Gary Player was not American. Yes, he has a better
uh these guys. He has a Grand Slam and nine Majors,
so he's a het.

Speaker 4 (01:04:02):
Rory.

Speaker 7 (01:04:03):
I apologize to the people that about that, but I
think you could say Roy is the best European golfer
of all time. There you go, that's kind of I'm
amending my statement. Okay, I'm with you. I made the same.
Let's see do ben. Oh god, I saw that.

Speaker 4 (01:04:23):
If it wasn't for Rory, everyone would be talking about
Jackson's doppel gang or bouncing in an eagle on seventeen.
If people don't know, we're talking about our guy. Jackson
Felts has a twin brother. Yes, his name is Patrick Reid,
and I mean they are identical twins in every way,
shape or form. The best thing I saw Jackson's day.

(01:04:45):
He probably the station playing out there today.

Speaker 10 (01:04:47):
Okay, good, he's recording Sounders weekly or something right now.

Speaker 4 (01:04:52):
So I Jackson's walking into the station. I was walking
down the hall. You go to the restaurant and he
walks in. Hey, Jackson, a big win by your team
this week and get win by the Sounders.

Speaker 7 (01:05:02):
Yeah, like just just like head down.

Speaker 12 (01:05:04):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (01:05:05):
And I was like looking at him like that's ridiculous, Like,
fella like you are, Patrick Reid, we're talking about that.
We'll talk about it with Softy and Fan Okay. It's
like yeah, so yeah, Ben, You're right, we would all
be talking because Jackson's doppel ganger did Bouncing an Eagle
on seventeen.

Speaker 7 (01:05:21):
For like one fifteen out. I don't think that's a
that's a shot. Because Patrick Reed's an attractive dude.

Speaker 8 (01:05:27):
I think he looks like Adam Scott as well, the actor.
Oh yeah, Adam Scott, Parks and Rex Severance.

Speaker 7 (01:05:34):
Yeah, not fault, not tracking what you know who he is?

Speaker 8 (01:05:39):
If he saw him Step Brothers. You know, you know Stepbrothers,
he's the obnoxious rich brother. You haven't seen any of those.

Speaker 7 (01:05:47):
I don't know, don't.

Speaker 2 (01:05:48):
I don't know.

Speaker 7 (01:05:48):
Maybe I have, I don't know. I listen, you know me,
I'm not the movie guy that's he has a little
Adam Scott too. I still think it looks more.

Speaker 10 (01:05:54):
I think he's a mix. Oh he looks exactly like
Patrick Reid.

Speaker 8 (01:05:58):
But I'm saying like if Adam Scott and uh, he
could be the obnoxious younger brother to both of them
as twins.

Speaker 10 (01:06:05):
How about that forty five?

Speaker 7 (01:06:06):
How did Jess survive? M Jane Vegas? M Jane the
Midday with Justin and Knock and Tyre. She's here with
She's here with the Woman of Cage and the mom
of Oh God, she's out here doing stuff right now
here we are.

Speaker 4 (01:06:20):
I got Circa. We're at Circa. I got one for you,
Colin lur the mayor says no, but I'm telling you,
Colin Marica is going to get the time.

Speaker 7 (01:06:27):
I'm telling him. I put a lot about it that
right now. I know he kind of Uh so, how
did it go to?

Speaker 10 (01:06:34):
It was really great? Circa was amazing, So I have credit.

Speaker 7 (01:06:37):
It is unbelievable to the I'm really jealous.

Speaker 10 (01:06:41):
Yeah, I know, I wish you were there with me.
No no offense to Mark. But but the sports book.

Speaker 4 (01:06:47):
From the like the pool, so that's like like in
the pool, you're watching like all these games and like
like a Jerry sports book.

Speaker 8 (01:06:55):
It's a Jerry World size screen that they have that
you can see from all the different pools. And they
put us up on this fifth floor cabana with a
private pool that we got to use.

Speaker 13 (01:07:05):
After the show, too, by the way, So we had
this whole thing to ourselves and I know, and so yeah,
we had it for two days and then we were
just watching literally, I would say, just so the Masters
was the majority of the screen, and then you know
you had NBA, NHL all and MLB all on the sides,

(01:07:26):
and then there's a sports book right below it and
some very tasty drinks that were served.

Speaker 2 (01:07:31):
Okay, great.

Speaker 7 (01:07:34):
That He's like, I mean, we're done talking, We're done. Okay,
we got we got Keith Miller, Oh god, Keith. Any
cracking Hockey Network off season hair rituals for the mayor
or John Forzy, John Bond FORCI, the John Bond Forcy
thing when the Krake and we're playing in Vegas on Thursday,

(01:07:57):
righty because chess. Yeah, yeah, Thursday game. So there's like
they John Jo John bon Jovi was in the in
the stands in Vegas. They showed him and it turned
into about a ten minute Edzo dissertation on how his
hair looks like John Foreslan's how they looked like doppelgangers,
and they went back and forth. They really don't.

Speaker 4 (01:08:18):
But as soon as John pushed back then edso just
it was like a dog latching onto the leg, wouldn't
let go. Yeah, And some guy at the Cracking game
on Saturday had a T shirt that said John Bond
for Seed.

Speaker 10 (01:08:31):
That is awesome.

Speaker 7 (01:08:32):
Yeah, so I don't know what.

Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
I don't know what what what John's off season hair rituals. Well,
he'll be calling games on tn T for the playoffs. Mine,
I am thinking about a change.

Speaker 10 (01:08:43):
Oh okay, think about the beard.

Speaker 7 (01:08:49):
I know, and I'm not sure yet. I like the bear,
thinking about doing it though, We'll wait and see.

Speaker 8 (01:08:52):
I will say on that Jones soda bottle that I
saw at the Virginia Mee is an athletics center.

Speaker 10 (01:08:57):
He looked extremely handsome thing and shaven.

Speaker 7 (01:09:00):
But I was also like, he looks like a baby.
I was also like, thirty.

Speaker 10 (01:09:04):
Five, it doesn't matter, he's still still.

Speaker 7 (01:09:08):
That's mild ex change. Outside that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
The hair is all I got going for I keep
up keep okay. And my son daughter Bull said that
my wife doesn't care.

Speaker 10 (01:09:18):
That's what I was gonna say.

Speaker 7 (01:09:19):
That's really there. That's interesting.

Speaker 10 (01:09:21):
Yeah, that's if Mike shapes this beard all.

Speaker 7 (01:09:24):
What's the what's the GAF meter on the wife and

doesn't matter. I'm going to gym. Like I'm doing that.

Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
I've done, I've done. Yeah, I've been doing that so great. Yeah,
but I don't know if that really matters at this point.

Speaker 7 (01:09:49):
It's what I feel.

Speaker 4 (01:09:51):
She did ask my buddy. I told you guys this
last week. She asked my buddy Darren, Uh, like, what
what station I'm on?

Speaker 8 (01:10:00):
Way?

Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
Well, no, way, Well, she didn't know. In her defense,
she knew was KJR. She didn't know that number. She
thought it was still nine to fifty. Because we have
a we have a relative in town. He's a traveling
nurse from Alabama and he's working up at Harbor View
and he's like, hey, I want to listen to in
I listen. He listens on the Arhartrapp done and in Alabama.
Old cousin Eric, if you're listening right now, what's up?

(01:10:21):
Because he went home for a few days because they
go seven on, seven off. But he was like, hey,
I want to listen to the car. Because he's born
my mother in laws car doesn't have app and stuff,
and Tama goes, oh, it's KJR.

Speaker 7 (01:10:30):
It's like nine to.

Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Fifty, and he's like, that is correct. It's like the
coach at Green Bay, Wisconsin is on right now, Doug
gott leaving, and she's like, well, no, it's not. I'm
sure it's KJR. Anyway, Yeah, I love you Hunt. But
we've been on the FM now for about almost five years.
We went to the FM the day Russ got traded.

(01:10:51):

Speaker 7 (01:10:53):

Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (01:11:00):
I was working over Red Fox with you at the time.

Speaker 4 (01:11:03):

Speaker 12 (01:11:19):

Speaker 11 (01:11:31):

wasn't it. No, it's like twenty years ago. It was
a long time.

Speaker 7 (01:13:19):
I thought I was here when you did that.

Speaker 12 (01:13:21):
You may have been, but how long have you been here?

Speaker 4 (01:13:23):

Because I remember how I first teached out geeked out.

Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
You were for.

Speaker 12 (01:13:30):
Both you and I were both you and I were fat.
I remember that.

Speaker 7 (01:13:33):
True, that's true.

Speaker 9 (01:13:35):
So I I go online and I do what anybody
would do to prep for an interview. I go to Wikipedia, right,
and I'm working at all this stuff on Billy D Williams.

Speaker 12 (01:13:43):
And there was a story about about Billy D.

Speaker 9 (01:13:46):
He was doing like some old English commercial or whatever,
and apparently he just like wanted to get paid in
beer or something like that. Okay, And so I brought
that up in the Q and A in front of
like five thousand nerds, and he looks at me, he says,
none of what you just said is true.

Speaker 12 (01:14:03):
It's like, okay, I remember, yeah, I was here for that.

Speaker 7 (01:14:05):
I remember that.

Speaker 12 (01:14:06):

for me? It was twenty years ago, so back in
the day, the Wikipedia page took four four days to low.

Speaker 12 (01:14:51):
Well, that's kind of your fault for not double checking that.

Speaker 10 (01:14:53):
I can never double check that, man, Dude, I don't
know what's going to come out.

Speaker 7 (01:14:56):
Of anything that's producer right there.

Speaker 12 (01:14:58):

Speaker 2 (01:15:01):
Was just something?

Speaker 4 (01:15:01):

surly look on his face, kind of like he just
walked in can't say anything.

Speaker 9 (01:15:07):
Well, look, oh Jackson or Patrick Reid has a sort
of look on his face. I think you meant Patrick Reed. Yes, okay,
i'd say Patrick Reid has a little more baby fat
than Jackson.

Speaker 4 (01:15:18):
I agree with Jackson's Jackson's and Jackson's a lot more
spelt than I don't.

Speaker 7 (01:15:23):
Think it's a I don't think it's a bad thing
that Patrick Reid's a good looking dude.

Speaker 10 (01:15:27):
Yeah, Jackson's in better shape.

Speaker 12 (01:15:29):
