our guy from the thirty thirteam, Steve Palozolo.

We're diving into the numbers and the grades around the
NFL with Steve Pelazolo from the thirty third team. Brought

week from ten am to eight pm, makers of Manis Paleo, Buddies,

Speaker 5 (01:58):
Now with Ian, here's Steve.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
All right, here we go. It's time to check in
with our good friend Steve Palozzolo. A couple days later
than normal. We've been doing Steve on Tuesdays during the
pre draft lead up. But here we are at the
Virginia Mason Athletics Center, getting you ready for the draft
later on tonight, just a few hours from now, the
Tennessee Titans will officially be on the clock with the
pick number one. When it's all said and done, and

(02:23):
then we have to wait seventeen picks for the Seattle
Seahawks at number eighteen. Maybe maybe not, maybe John Scheiner
makes a move along the way. But Steve Pelozol's here
with us thirty third team. Check the mic podcast. He's
got mock drafts on the podcast, him and Sam listener
mock drafts. Dame Bruglers on there as well, our guy
from the Athletic I want to talk kind of first

(02:44):
round in what you think and what should happen Steve,
kind of leading up to eighteen with Seattle, and let's
start with the Tennessee Titans. Cleveland Browns New York Giants one, two,
and three. Do you think it's more or less set
in stone? What's going to happen earlier? Do you do
you think something might change? What do you foresee happening there?

Speaker 6 (03:02):
Yeah, I think it's I mean set in stone right
now would be. I think the most common outcome is
cam Ward at one to the Titans. Definitely expecting that,
and then it seems like Travis Hunter to the Browns
and Abdul Carter to the Giants. I think that's what's
gonna happen. I don't think we get any surprises at
the top. I think all of the all of the
buzz around Shadur Sanders at quarterback for those two teams

(03:25):
at that point in the draft seems to have died down.
And then you get into how when's the when does
the next quarterback come off the board? Is it even
Shadeur Sanders? Is it Jackson Dart and are we talking
late first round? Is that the Steelers at twenty one?
So to me, that's the big story. I don't think
there's any surprises in the top three. And then the
next question is, Okay, when's who's the first ub after

(03:47):
after cam Ward?

Speaker 2 (03:49):
So let's let's talk about cam Ward for a second.
You know, we watched him play for a couple of
years at Washington State. He went down to Miami last season.
What do you what's your evaluation of cam Ward? What
do you hear from other people around the league about
cam Ward? And would he even have been a first
round pick a year ago? Let's just assume this year's
cam Ward was in the draft a year ago. Would

(04:10):
he even be a first rounder?

Speaker 6 (04:12):
No, not a first rounder a year ago. And I
don't think that is a warning sign necessarily. I think
we have a history of Joe Burrow had a year starting,
wouldn't have been a first rounder, would have been probably
a third rounder, and then comes out and looks like
the number one overall pick the next year. And rightfully so,
I think Dwayne Haskins a few years ago, Mitchell Trubisky,
Kyler Murray, these guys are all kind of one year wonders,

(04:35):
Mac Jones.

Speaker 5 (04:36):
So that happens. I think Ward's game.

Speaker 6 (04:39):
You just look at all the qbs that have hit
in the NFL for the last eight or ten years,
mostly have exceptional tools. Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Lamar Jackson,
Justin Herbert Jordan love a lot of these quarterbacks, and
I mentioned all of those guys because they had some
question marks coming out, some production questions, but they had
great physical tools that they grew into proved parts of

(05:00):
their game coming out of college.

Speaker 5 (05:02):
I think that's what the Titans are banking on with
the board.

Speaker 6 (05:04):
He obviously improved a ton last year at Miami. They're
hoping that he continues that as sense has to cut
down on some of the crazy decisions that he makes.
Definitely some wild decisions thrown back across his body. But
one of my favorite things about cam Ward is when
he does that, he comes back and still makes big plays.
He's got incredible arm talent to get the ball down
the field both in the pocket outside of the pocket,

(05:25):
moves around extremely well, knows when to run, does it effectively.
So I think there's just a lot of that theoretical
upside on cam Ward because of the arm talent, his
ability to drive the ball down the field, and that
continued growth that we saw from Washington State to Miami.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
It is Steve Palazola thirty thirteen by t by Georgetown Brewing.
We're at the Virginia Mason Athletics Center. Our coverage started
just a short time ago, and we'll go and tell
probably around nine o'clock tonight, same thing on day two
until about nine o'clock at night after rounds two and three,
and then back on the year nine am on Saturday
morning here at the Virginia mased Athletic Center, Seahawk head Quarters.

Speaker 3 (06:00):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (06:00):
Okay, let's let's get to Shaduur Sanders. I'm most places
I see and I don't know what you guys have
talked about necessarily in terms of actual slotting in grades,
but it feels like Shaduur Sanders doesn't even have a
first round grade by many people.

Speaker 3 (06:14):
What do you think?

Speaker 2 (06:16):
Look in the crystal ball? Where should he be drafted?
Is he is day two guy? And will someone actually
take a run out of him on day one?

Speaker 6 (06:23):
Yeah, I'm hearing more and more people, and you're hearing
more of that now too, because grades are finalized, teams
have had all their meetings, the Hayes in the bar
and as far as the evaluations go, and I think
just more of that information is coming out that Yeah,
there's there's gonna be a lot of individuals certainly that
don't have a first round grade on Shudur Sanders, and
there will be.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
Something that do.

Speaker 6 (06:41):
I'm believing the hype that the Saints will not take
him at nine. They're the next obvious choice, I think,
after Browns and Giants at the top.

Speaker 5 (06:49):
So if he falls past nine.

Speaker 6 (06:51):
Then you're looking at the Steelers with the next desperate
quarterback need, and then you know, you look at maybe
the Browns or the Giants are going to start trading
back in. But you know, if you're believing the hype
on Jackson Dart and Tyler shut maybe seems like those
guys a little bit better. So now you're talking fringe
first and into the second round maybe for Shadur Sanders,

(07:11):
and also for Jackson Dart. When I watched the dirt,
I think he's QB two in this class, but with
a lot of questions. He doesn't handle the pocket very well,
takes too many sacks. I wonder how much of that
is because of the terrible offensive line in Colorado. I
think that is a legit concern, either creating bad tendencies
or showing his tendencies when he's under pressure.

Speaker 5 (07:30):
I think he throws a good ball. He's accurate up
to twenty yards.

Speaker 6 (07:33):
Makes good decisions with it, has to cut down on
those negative plays as far as the sacks go, and
be more consistent throwing the ball down the field. So
you know that description doesn't scream high end first round talent,
which is why I think you're seeing more about him
on Day two and perhaps the back end of round one.

Speaker 2 (07:50):
So how likely, Steve, do you think? It feels like
it's likely. Not likely, but it feels like there's a
fairly decent chance that a guy that people thought at
one point could be the number one overall may not
just do an Aaron Rodgers slide down the first round.
He may slide all the way out of the first round.

Speaker 5 (08:07):
Yeah, And well, part of it's the need too.

Speaker 6 (08:09):
I mean last year there was three really good, I think,
pretty clear top quarterback prospects at the top and three
very clear quarterback needs. This year you have the three,
but then you had other teams that had serious quarterback needs.
This year it's the three at the top. You throw
the Saints in that bucket, maybe because of the Derek
Carr injury, and then you have the Steelers but there's

(08:29):
not and then the rest of the teams it's like
would Seattle draft the developmental guy on day two because
they don't have to have Donald for the next They're
not tied to Donald. With the Rams draft the developmental guy.
I just don't think that the demand is there. And
because of that, Yeah, you're talking about Shadur maybe going
late first round, because like if the Browns and the

(08:50):
Giants are opting into Hey, we think we have these
blue chip prospects, and the next tier of quarterbacks, however
you want to rank them, are closer. We'll get one
of them, either first or in the second round. We'll
get one of them, but we want to take our
blue chip guy first. I think that's some part of
the difference here this year. It's just not as clear
top quarterback prospects and not as much need around the

(09:11):
league like there was last year when six fewbs went
in the top twelve.

Speaker 2 (09:15):
Steve Pella's a little thirty thirteen joining us. All Right,
who's the player that you think is going to be
the most besides she, do our standards the most intriguing
first round pick in terms of moving up and surprising
people or dropping and plumbing and surprising people.

Speaker 6 (09:31):
I mean, I think the Ashton genty discussion is going
to be really interesting if the Bears take him at
ten or if the Jaguars want to take him as
high as five. I think just he's an awesome player,
fantastic running back prospect, elite prospect, but it's a deep
running back class, and we know about running back value
in the first round not always good bang for your buck.
I think the way I think the offensive lineman end

(09:52):
up going a little bit higher always than we expect.
Will Campbell, I'm on membu Kelvin Banks. You know, maybe
three tackles end up going in the top ten, whereas
a lot of times we have those guys maybe spread
out across a lot of different mock drafts. And the
other intriguing name for me is Shamar Stewart, the edge
rusher out of Texas A and M. Just because from
a scouting and evaluation perspective, anytime you have the freak

(10:16):
athlete who is underwhelming from a production standpoint, it's just
always interesting to see which team is buying into that
or which team is going to try to develop that
guy because there's not a great history of doing that,
but it's not enough to preclude teams from trying. So
Shamar Stewart's always intriguing to me just to see, you know,
he's got Miles Garrett type of measurables, but not even

(10:36):
close to Miles Garrett type of production in which he
might want to take a shot on him in the
first round.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
Okay, so let's go back to asking Genty for a
second running back out of Boise State with him.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Do you think that there was a or is.

Speaker 2 (10:48):
There a push for the running back position even though
in a deep class if you can find a guy
that is that much of a difference maker because of
what we saw last year from Saquon Barkley. In other words,
is there a sake one Barkley effect on running backs
in the draft?

Speaker 5 (11:04):
There may be, but if you look deeper, there shouldn't be.

Speaker 7 (11:06):
Right.

Speaker 6 (11:07):
So it's Barkley was fantastic, but let's be honest, he
was the cherry on top of a very very strong
foundation that Philadelphia had already built. They have a running quarterback,
a great offensive line, and two unbelievable outside playmakers and
a good tight end. And then Barkley comes in and
he just takes advantage of all that and he's fantastic.
But all those pieces were in place, much like Derrick

(11:27):
Henry went to a place where the pieces were in place.
The other part of that is big Saquon's value was.
I mean, he was cheap on the free agent market
relative to other running backs. So the two things you
have to look at is are the Jacksonville Jaguars the Raiders.
Are they gonna look at Genty as saving their run
game when they still have questions up front from a

(11:48):
run blocking perspective. The Bears have at least put those
pieces in place. They've spent a lot this offseason on
the offensive line. They could probably justify it a little
bit more. The other aspect of the running back value
thing is because of the way the contract slot Genty immediately,
if he gets drafted in the top ten, he immediately
gets paid essentially like a top ten running back, whereas
a top ten edge rusher gets paid like the fortieth

(12:11):
highest edge rusher.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
You know.

Speaker 5 (12:12):
So there's that's.

Speaker 6 (12:13):
Where some of the financial value comes in. In addition
to on the field, the running back can only do
so much when the run blocking is not.

Speaker 5 (12:22):
As good upfront.

Speaker 6 (12:23):
So I think, look, I think he'll probably go in
the top ten, but I don't know that it's a
because Saquon Barkley had so much success.

Speaker 5 (12:30):
I think you have to look a little deeper than that.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
All right, I buried the lead long enough. Eighteen overall,
who's going to be there for Seattle? And who do
you think they're going to take?

Speaker 6 (12:40):
So is this the year John drafted guard?

Speaker 7 (12:44):
I don't think so.

Speaker 5 (12:45):
I don't think that's it.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
I don't think it.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
No, No, I don't think so.

Speaker 6 (12:49):
I mean, look, I want to, like, I want to
repackage what the first round is, right, it's it should
be this place where you get You have this opportunity
to get a really cost effective, good player at a
valuable position. And that's why you teams don't draft guards
as high. That's why they're not taking safeties. So I
would look. I gave them Johad Campbell in my mack

(13:11):
a couple of weeks ago.

Speaker 5 (13:11):
I would love that.

Speaker 6 (13:13):
It's a lower value position, but I think he's a
clear cut top linebacker prospect in this draft. I would
love to hote Campbell there. I could see them going
with that next, Like if Mikel Williams is there from
Georgia on the edge, I could see them doing a
Shamar Stewart draft and developed type of option. I think
they're going to get a premium position type of player
on the defensive line, or maybe a high end linebacker

(13:36):
prospect like a jahat Campbell.

Speaker 5 (13:37):
I think that'd be a really next fit at eighteen.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
What are you got coming up? On the podcast? Check
the Mike Podcast courtesy of the thirty thirteen.

Speaker 1 (14:40):
Now back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center and the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to you by
Coors Life, by R and R Foundation specialists, the Queen
Anne Beer Home, and by Fox thirteen. On Sports Radio
ninety three point three kjr FM.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
All right, welcome back in Sports Radio ninety three point
three kJ FM. He in forness with you, and I'm
sitting here probably a room that our next guest knows
very well, the Defensive Meeting Room up on the second
floor of the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. It's where the
media is stationed for the draft, which begins tonight five
o'clock Pacific time. Our coverage here in KJR goes until

(15:25):
nine pm. Same thing tomorrow starts at nine am on Saturday.
I'm wanna take people back in time. The year is
twenty ten. The Seahawks, under John Schneider and Pete Carroll
their first ever draft. They've taken Russell Okung, offensive tackle
from Oklahoma State with the six overall pick. They have
a second pick in the first round, and at number fourteen,
they're sitting there. They need a safety. We all know

(15:46):
they need a safety. People in Seattle are saying, we
gotta get Taylor Mays. He played for Pete at USC.
We gotta get that guy. And instead they go up
to the podium and they say, with the fourteenth pick,
the Seattle Seahawks take from Texas, the University of Texas.
Look home, Lawrence, Earl Thomas. And there were people saying,
what's gonna happen here? Well, you know what, I'll tell
you what happened here. I'm gonna give you a spoiler

(16:07):
alert because all this guy did, all he did during
his career besides winning Super Bowl, was be a five
time AP All Pro player and a seven time Pro Bowler.
He is back with us for the first time on
KJAR in a long time. Earl Thomas, how the hell
are you.

Speaker 7 (16:22):
I'm doing really good. That was a really really warm
welcome right there. I really appreciate that.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
Hey, can you First of all, I know how it
is because every time any of us in the media
interviewed you for ten years, you told us that you
had a chip on your shoulder, and we asked, Earl,
you were a first round pick, buddy, you got picked
fourteenth overall. Man, why do you have a chip on
your shoulder? But you played like that all the time,
And I'm sure part of it is you probably heard
of people saying they should take Taylor Mays. What do
you remember about that night sixteen years ago? What do

(16:51):
you remember about draft night?

Speaker 7 (16:53):
Yeah, I just wanted to be around family. I made
sure I just had it at my church, and my
grandfather built that church break by Brick, so I wanted
to show him some appreciation. He was sick at the time.
He ended up passing away a little bit after the draft,
but I definitely wanted to spend some time with him
and coach family. So it was a great night. All
the cameras and the ESPN crew, they came down to Orange,

(17:15):
Texas to be with me, to make sure that the
world got to see me get drafted for a teenth
pitch in the first round. So it was a really
good experience.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
You came to Seattle. Do you remember the call? Did
Pete call you?

Speaker 7 (17:27):
You?

Speaker 3 (17:27):
Did John call you? What do you remember from that night?

Speaker 7 (17:30):
Yeah? So I remember talking to Coach Carroll. I remember
talking to Coach Carroll before I even got drafted. We
actually had lunch basically for my pro dad, Texas Pro Day,
so he just took me behind scenes and said that
he was really interested in drafted me and he said
if I would be there, he would take me, and
he ended up doing that. So I'll definitely remember those

(17:52):
conversations that I had with Coach Carroll right before I
got drafted.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
It's amazing, girl, because you came in and it was
the way he wanted to put that deep together. And
it took a couple of years because you know, then
in twenty ten they took a guy named Cam Chancellor
a much later in the draft, and then you know,
a couple of years later and a year later they
took a guy you might have heard of him, Richard Sherman,
good player, kJ Wrights. Twenty twelve, some guy named Wagner

(18:16):
Bobby First name all those guys, but you were the key.
Did he tell you, hey, man, this is how I
want to build a defense. I need a guy that's
going to play center field and be out there. I
need I need Earl Thomas, I need your skill.

Speaker 7 (18:27):
Set right, So I knew that coach would do a
good job of putting the right pieces around me. Like
you said, we uh premiere at cover three and they
gave me a lot of room to adjust the plays.
Diagnosed plays be over the top, so how big corners
can press these guys and you know catch out interceptions.

(18:51):
Also with Cam just understanding how big is and you
know the threat that he brought to the defense. So yeah,
I'm knew Coach Kroll was putting all the pieces around me,
just like you did with us Wilson. You wanted the
rest to have a good old lineman, uh, some good
receivers and you know Marshawn Lynch that he can depend on.
So it was the same thing on defense.

Speaker 2 (19:09):
It is Earl Thomas joining us here on the b
comploying holland Jess. Do you have our surprise?

Speaker 3 (19:13):
I do.

Speaker 2 (19:14):
You might have known him, Earl, and I think he
might have coached you a little bit and he had
a hell of a season last year with the Commanders.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
You remember Earl Thomas. Do you remember a guy named
Dan Quinn?

Speaker 7 (19:23):
Yes? I remember Dann question my de coordinator, Earl.

Speaker 9 (19:29):
Earl Thomas is one of the very best, not even
say like this is a long list and some Hall
of famers I coached. He's one of the very best
competitors I've ever met in my entire life, Like an
absolute badass. From the time I saw him working out
at UH at Austin, he ran like a four or
four at the combines, so I'm gonna do better. Busted

(19:50):
his ass, ran like four to three at Austin and uh.
I remember going back to Seattle to say, man, like
I would STI love to coach this guy holy and
uh means that competitives nature and the standard that he
set has left it. You know, such an impression on
to me about what greatness and competing and going for

(20:13):
it at the highest level can look like. And it's
it's not for everybody, but for the guys that are
about it like Earl's about it.

Speaker 5 (20:22):
And uh, man, it's such a high standard.

Speaker 9 (20:24):
So when I heard you wrong, I'm calling from DC
and I said, that's a real one right there.

Speaker 2 (20:30):
Earl, What does that mean to hear that from coach
the day the day of the draft man?

Speaker 3 (20:34):
What does that mean to hear from him?

Speaker 7 (20:36):
It means a lot. So you can tell in this
competition he knows who he is as a coach. You
can tell he's gonna have a long coach career. That's
why so complimentative with me, just telling in the spirit
so you know he trust his game and he understands competitors.
We talked about some Michael Jordan books, because you know,
Michael Jordan is one of the best, greatest competitors ever.

(20:58):
And we talked about just being a clean and that
was just mean, just keeping the post clean, making these
tacles look normal. You know, when I have opportunities for
tipping over those catch interceptions, we get those big great communicator,
helping guys get lined up, diagnosi plays before it happened,
stuff like that. But you know, d Q, he was
a great motivator. He always talked about that boxing mentality,

(21:22):
and you know, in the whole room, we took that
mentality and we bought it to the field, and we
was hard to deal with every time we stepped out.

Speaker 3 (21:28):
There, Dan, I know you're busy.

Speaker 10 (21:31):
Dan.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
We appreciate calling in man. This is awesome. Great, Hey,
congratulations on a hell of a year last year. You
got a lot of fans out here in Seattle. Still
you know that just at the top of the list,
some guy named Wagner still plays for you. Along the way, Hey, Dan,
let me wrap it up this real quick. We're reminiscing
with Earl, So Dan, I'll let you get the last
word before we turn the loose. Just what was that defense?
When we look at those guys? I hear about the

(21:52):
Ravens defense back in the in two thousand.

Speaker 3 (21:54):
What have you?

Speaker 2 (21:54):
The Bears and all that, Dan, You've been on this
game for a long time. What is it about Earl
and that defense that just separated them from everybody else?

Speaker 9 (22:01):
I would say their relentlessness and connection together was unmatched.
Like you got one like there. There wasn't anybody that
they wouldn't fight for. And UH, as a coach to
watch that, to see that and the standard that they
set for themselves, it was amazing. I can remember an
Earl will tell the story. We were in another team's

(22:24):
facility getting ready to practice and they had a stat
on the wall that was you know, don't allow sew
and such points and uh there was earl and one
of the guys say, man, we got to take that down.

Speaker 5 (22:34):
Like the goal or before the goal is no points
in a game.

Speaker 9 (22:40):
I said, damn right, bro, And so uh, I would
say they taught me a mindset of like what a
group can do together, and uh, I've been chasing it
ever since, man, because uh, it's like as powerful a
thing when you're a part of something like that and
you see it, you feel it.

Speaker 5 (22:57):
There may not be a metric on it.

Speaker 9 (22:58):
But like it's you can It's the easiest thing to
see in the world.

Speaker 5 (23:02):
So he's one of one.

Speaker 10 (23:04):
Man.

Speaker 5 (23:04):
I'm glad you're on with him.

Speaker 9 (23:05):
And just hearing what a real competitor looks like sounds
like feels like he's rare. So all you guys enjoy
tonight and I gotta I gotta kick back to this preparation.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
I'm out, all right, thanks to coach.

Speaker 5 (23:19):
Appreciate Bob.

Speaker 7 (23:20):
Yeah, yeah, So the commanders were very sneaky good this year,
so I'm very very proud. So he's showing he can
do it anywhere you go.

Speaker 3 (23:28):
So you gotta love that. You gotta love that, Earl.

Speaker 2 (23:31):
Just what would your advice be the young guys coming
out tonight, you know, in the next couple of nights
in the draft that are coming in. I mean everyone's
a star in college like you were. You came out
as at a really young age. What would an elder
Earl Thomas like to be telling an Earl Thomas back
in twenty ten.

Speaker 7 (23:48):
Yeah, I would just say, uh, just get the directions
down on much expected of you because you got to
go through the interview process. They gotta basically let the
city know that you're you're actually part of team. People
want to see your face. So I would just say,
just get with the people that you need to get with,
and uh, make sure you got a good itinerary.

Speaker 2 (24:09):
Earl, what what was your favorite I mean winning a
Super Bowl? I know number one, But when you look
back on your time at Seattle, what what are some
of the things that pop out? Is it the teammates,
is it the coaching staff, the fans? What is it
about your time here in Seattle that was so special
besides besides the fact that you've got to ring my friend.

Speaker 7 (24:25):
Yeah, it was just a I think what makes Seattle
so stuffial. It was. It was the opportunity for me
to showcase my skills. Uh. I think I did that.
I think I got to play a great group of
great group of guys. Uh and we're still bunning to
this day. Uh yeah. I just just basically got to
show how good I was and to say that nobody

(24:46):
was thinking about Seattle. We we was weaving in this
corner and to see all the success that we put
out there over the years. That that's that's what I
think about to today. So when I'm walking around Orange,
my hometown, or here back in Seattle, people are gonna
always remember they stop and say, hey, I had to
sign some autographs at the at the air foid so
on stepped out the airplane. And I haven't been back

(25:06):
in Seattle since twenty eighteen, so that was really good
for me to see I still have fans on here.

Speaker 3 (25:12):
Well, you're beloved.

Speaker 7 (25:13):
You know.

Speaker 2 (25:13):
The next step is a ring of honor. I mean,
at some point it's gonna be Canton, Ohio. It should
be Canton, Ohio. But at some point we're gonna see
you up. Then that ring of honor here in Seattle.

Speaker 7 (25:22):
Yes, that's that's always been a go I saw, I
saw Steve Larger, you know, Jersey hanging up there every
every home game. So I always told myself that's what
I wanted. So I'm glad you bought it up. So
we can keep putting it, putting it out there to
the universe, and it's gonna work out.

Speaker 3 (25:38):
Oh well, I'm screaming from the mountaintops, man. I mean,
you're we like I have people all the time.

Speaker 2 (25:43):
When I'm doing radio shot, it hits from people across
the country, like, hey man, you know Russell Wilson led
them to Super Bowl or so and so I said
it was a collective effort. But I'm telling you right now,
there's a handful of guys that don't win the Super
Bowl with and you know thirty one and twenty nine
and the secondary twenty five, Big Mike Cliff, some guy
named Marshawn. You might have heard of him. I heard
he was. What was he like to practice against? By

(26:04):
the way, with Marshawn? And did he just kind of
chill and do his own thing?

Speaker 7 (26:08):
It depends. It depends. Some days. I think he just
listens to his body really well. So but here here'll
give He'll give us some great looks. He gave me
some great open field tallical situations. Uh wad He just
put his head down and he wanted to see if
Earl was tough. So I did my job of just
standing my ground, standing them up a little bit. And
you know those form talcles that I had in the game,

(26:29):
It comes with all the type of situations where I
visualize it and then it happens.

Speaker 2 (26:34):
And one final thing for you, you played next to
the man, the enforcer, the one of the baddest dudes
to ever play in the in the National Football League?
What was what was it like and what was your relationship?
And it just felt like there was a natural chemistry
between you and and Cam Chancellor.

Speaker 7 (26:50):
Yeah, it definitely was a national chemistry.

Speaker 11 (26:52):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (26:53):
He just had the carrying attitude because he's so big.
I think that just comes with the territory of tall
guy like a center. He always want to protect everybody
around him. Uh and just be just being the best
attitude possible because you know what he brings to the game,
and that's just that pounding mentality. Uh you know that enforcer. Uh,
the running back is gonna be thinking about where Cam

(27:15):
Chancellor is. Uh tight ends. They do the same thing.
So yeah, you just you just have that that nature
bottom that everybody on the team gravitated towards. And you
know he used to play quarterbacks, so he's a very
smart football player.

Speaker 3 (27:28):
Finally, what are you up to these days? What's the
world doing these days?

Speaker 7 (27:32):
Uh? Well, right now, I'm I'm collecting my NFL checks.
I'm being a great dad. Uh yeah, so I'm just
just being around, uh, staying in shape, playing basketball all
the time, watching sports, grouting on. I love Boston and
bost Celtics. They're gonna win up championship this year. And yeah,
so I've just been watching, just watching sports. Man, just

(27:53):
stay connected to the game. I have kids, so I'll
be going to the sporting events. So yeah, I just
keep myself busy.

Speaker 2 (28:00):
I'm sitting here the Vmax. Should John give you a
sholl you ready to go? Can you still play?

Speaker 7 (28:03):
Yeah? You know I still can play.

Speaker 8 (28:05):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (28:05):
You know, teams just gotta they just gotta like me.

Speaker 10 (28:08):
Uh.

Speaker 7 (28:08):
I know with my leg injury, Uh that was on
some red flags. But you know, once I'm out there,
I know what I'm doing. I'm did in Baltimore win.
I lost two games, but that was just a red
flag to some some teams, and you know, most of
the time or I'm knowing my situation, nobody really explained
to me exactly what was going on, so I just
I'll just kind of put two and two together. So

(28:29):
I wanted to be this guy wondering what if what
could I just it's just my leg, So teams just
not want to take a chance with my leg injury.
So I'm I'm cool with that. I'm I'm cool with
just sleeping in. I get a lot of resk. I
look young, I'm handsome, so I'm i'm I'm I'm happy
about that.

Speaker 3 (28:49):
I know you are.

Speaker 2 (28:49):
By the way, Earl Thomas at the Suquamish Clearwater Casino
Resort and Convention Center tonight for a Super Bowl party. Seahawks,
Julian Love, Kenny Macintosh, tight End actually's now fullback. They
just say now he's a full back. Brady Russell are
all going to be there, some former Seahawks like Sam Adams,
Ranald Morris, a Lonzo Mitz is more. It's a Quamish
Clearwater Casino Resort Convention Center. I believe it might be
sold out, but they can go online and check that out.

(29:10):
At Clearwatercasino dot Com. Finally, Earl, what do you want
to say to Seahawk fans as I let you go?

Speaker 5 (29:15):
Oh?

Speaker 7 (29:15):
Thanks, thank you guys for supporting me. It's definitely going
to be sold out. And you know, I've been hearing
from the team that put this whole thing together that
everybody really wanted to see me. So I'm excited about that.

Speaker 3 (29:26):
Earl.

Speaker 2 (29:26):
I can't believe we got you on with dan Quinn.
Thank you so much. Great to hear your voice.

Speaker 7 (29:29):
Thank you, Thank you guys. Today I need to hear
coach dan Quinn. It was cool. That was big, especially
as draft Knight. What pick the uh does the commander
have the commander's half tonight?

Speaker 2 (29:39):
Well, it's after eighteen because they had a good year, man,
I can tell you that. I'd have to look that up.
Hanging out a second, I'll tell you right now. The
commanders are picking. They're at twenty nine. They're at number
twenty nine. Pick number twenty nine.

Speaker 7 (29:49):
That's good, that's good. It's my jergy number.

Speaker 2 (29:51):
I forgot it there exactly. That thing should be hanging
up in the Ring of honors. What it should be, Earl,
Thanks again, buddy.

Speaker 7 (29:56):
I appreciate it all right, Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
Earl Thomas there you go. Caught up with Earl and
got a chance to talk to him, and it was
a ton of fun. And I think with Earle there's
a lot there. And obviously what happened in the final
game that he played with Seattle on the thirtieth of
September twenty eighteen, and the frustration that he had, and
obviously you know the middle finger and all that stuff,
and I know people have thoughts on that four nine

(30:21):
four five one on the text line. It's an interesting dynamic.
We'll touch in on the next segment because I did
see the reaction on social media yesterday when we posted
that we're gonna have Earl on today, and there are
some that you know, he needs to apologize and he
needs to do that, and I didn't want to go
down that road with him today that today wasn't the
day to do that. But I'll touch it on and

(30:42):
tell you my thoughts on that next segment. Is someone
who was there covering it, who was there through all
these things and all the drama that this team had
over the years, and good and bad. I didn't view
that as a as a big deal, but maybe others do.
We'll talk about that next. It's Draft Day twenty twenty
five where at the Virginia Mason Athletic Center ninety three
point three and Fox streaming in Fox Local nine three
point three KJFM.

Speaker 8 (31:02):
Welcome to the NFL Draft.

Speaker 1 (31:04):
Now back to the Virginia Mason Athletics Center and the
twenty twenty five NFL Draft and brought to you by
gors Light, by R and R Foundation specialists, the Queen
Anne Beerho and by Fox thirteen on Sports Radio ninety
three point three KJR FM.

Speaker 2 (31:23):
And welcome back in we are the Virginia Mason Athletics Center.
Big thanks to Seahawks and their public relations staff as
they have been working hard getting everything set up here
for the media for the next three days. We always
kind of ask for a little special permission to get
in early to do this show.

Speaker 3 (31:38):
One to three.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Softy and Hugh and Mike Holmgren are here at three
o'clock today as we get you ready Round one today,
rounds two and three tomorrow. Five picks in the first
ninety two for Seattle over the first two days, one
pick today, number eighteen overall for Seattle, and big thanks
Earl Thomas. I know there's a lot of stuff on
the text line. We'll get to that coming up at
two thirty. Some thoughts from everybody on that at two today.

(32:00):
In terms of the Earl Thomas interview, I just want
to share something real quick before we go back to
the draft, Jess if I can, because I did see
some stuff last night about Earl and I understand what
happened at the end, and I understand, you know, the
frustration that he had when he was being carted off
the field in Arizona. I was there, I saw him
in the hallway afterwards. That there were a couple moments

(32:21):
like that with other guys two over the years. I mean,
if you remember, you know Kandrey Diggs kind of lost
his mind a little bit as well. Every situation is different.
I think with Earle that there were some I mean,
there's no doubt that there were hard feelings at the
end when he left here, and there were hard feelings
to a certain extent with with you know, contract in

(32:41):
front office and so on and so forth. That's not
out of the norm that happens all the time. This
is a team that famously had one of his best
players of all time sue them in Kenny Easley, and
it took a while to get over that before Kenny
was you know, ends up being a Hall of Famer
and ends up being in the Ring of Honor as well.
But you know, every situation is different, Every situation is different,
Every situation that we look at different. You know, I

(33:03):
bring up Russell a lot and people, you know, we're
comparing that a little bit. There is a difference with
Russell and Earl. Earl was mad about money and a
contract and was frustrated because he knew his season had
come to an end in a contract year and all
those things, and the heat of the moment in a
game I think is a little bit more forgivable in
my mind.

Speaker 3 (33:20):
Jess then say what.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Happened with with Russell Wilson and trying to you know.

Speaker 10 (33:26):
Well, heat of the moment in a game with an injury,
with an ending in a contract year, in a contract
year exactly, And so.

Speaker 2 (33:33):
I give him a little bit more grace and forgiveness
the Russell thing, And why I'm hard on him because
people are asking him like why the double Standard's not
a double standard. It's two different situations. The difference is
this Russ tried to exert some sort of weird control
and pressure and get things done, get people fired, get
people turfed. Russ had a whole different agenda, and I

(33:55):
think that's what was That's what to me is different.
That's why I lost a lot of respect for Russell
will at the end. And we've you know, listen, we've
seen a guy that has gone from here to Denver,
uh and then obviously Pittsburgh for a year and now
onto the Giants that just kind of wore out his
welcome at times. And you know, Richard Sherman didn't have
the best you know, divorce and so to speak from

(34:16):
the Seahawks, but he's been welcome back in. Mike Bennett
at times had some issues with Pete and you know,
remember reading the book and the meetings and things like that.
He's now on the broadcast here. This is a very
forgiving organization. It certainly was under Pete Carroll, and I
think with John Schneider it is as well. And that
goes all the way from you know, from Schneider through
his staff. You know, Mike McDonald didn't coach these guys,

(34:38):
but you know, Chuck Arnold, who's the president, was around
so it's a it's a very different every situation is different.

Speaker 3 (34:43):
But I'm glad we got.

Speaker 2 (34:44):
A Earl on today. I thought it was fun to
get the I mean, the conversation with dan Quinn was awesome. Yeah,
I try to figure out, like if people understand what
a what a remarkable thing is. And I appreciate you
just your connections with Dan and friendship with him.

Speaker 10 (34:58):
Yet people behind the scenes on that when just so
that they understand how much he loves him. So dan
Quim was the defensive coordinator during the legion of Boom Era,
and I, you know, I've known him since for decades
and so.

Speaker 3 (35:11):
I coached with your dad.

Speaker 10 (35:12):
He coached with my dad when I was in junior
high school. So it was a long time ago and
not that long ago. I'm not that old, but he anyway,
I texted him because I very vividly remember how much
he loved Earl's competitive nature. And I texted him telling
him that we were going to have Earl on and
that we were taping with him, and he facetimed me immediately.

(35:33):
This is a head coach the day before the draft,
who is facetiming me because he thought that I was
like with him and he wanted to say hi. So
then I said, hey, you know, do you want to
jump on on the phone and he came right on.
That's how much respect he has a month.

Speaker 2 (35:50):
That might have been one of the coolest things we've
done in this show in a long time. So I
thank you for that.

Speaker 4 (35:54):
And but that's great.

Speaker 2 (35:55):
I want people think about that for saying, that's the
head coach of an NFL team that was a playoff
team last season, went to conference championship game.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Right yep. And that called in the day of the
draft to.

Speaker 4 (36:07):
Talk to Earl talk to Earl talent.

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Like that's insane, I mean, but also tells you the
connection to this organization like that. That group was so
special on so many different levels, and I don't know
if it can be replicated again. I know there's a
lot of teams that were our favorite teams in this
era in this area. The ninety six Sonics people love.

Speaker 3 (36:26):
I get that.

Speaker 2 (36:27):
I didn't have that same affinity for them as I
did for because I am, well, the seventy nine Sonics
that won a title. I compare that team a lot
to the Seahawks that won the Super Bowl in twenty thirteen.
They were very similar in this sense. Massive egos, massive personalities,
but a massive amount of talent. And oh, by the way,
they won a title and they overcame everything and won

(36:47):
a title. That's what the twenty thirteen Seahawks were. They
had the biggest personalities in the league. They had the
loudest personalities in the league, but they had the most
talent in the league. But they also had some internal
battles they had to go through and fight through and
still find a way to win. I think very similar teams.
But you know when you hear the coach calling in
to talk to Earl, that was that was cool. So
four nine four five, won't we get your thoughts on
that as well? Seahawks again number eighteen pick today. We're

(37:11):
gonna be on until nine pm tonight. Corbus Smith's gonna
join me in just a couple of seconds here from
Animal City Spectrum Our. Seahawks writer will get to him
in just a minute and kind of go through what
we're expecting to happen the next couple days. That should
be a fun conversation with Corbyn. But remember we're on
until nine pm tonight here on KJR. We'll be back
on tomorrow one o'clock from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center

(37:32):
till nine o'clock tomorrow for rounds two and three. Back
on the air on Saturday morning, starting at nine. I'm
gonna go nine to noon with Rob Rang. Chuck Powell
takes over at noon, and then I believe Anders and
Chris Kidd wrapped things up at the wrap up show
late afternoon Saturday. So if you're out and about, you're
driving around, you're doing your thing on Saturday afternoon, Saturday morning,
and you want to keep up on the draft, and
you don't really care what the Jacksonville Jaguars and the

(37:54):
New York Giants are doing in the third and fourth
rounds or fourth and fifth rounds.

Speaker 3 (37:58):
Just tune into here. We will have it all.

Speaker 2 (38:00):
You will recap what happened on the first two days
on Saturday morning, and Chuck will do the same thing
in the afternoon. And I I do like to pump
our tires here between the knowledge of a guy like
Hugh Millen, the knowledge of every guy that's in the draft,
like Rob Rang has all the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh
rounders that sometimes will get taken on that third day
that Ranger, has our other experts, all of our hosts.

(38:23):
We really try to hit this thing out of the
ballpark every year, and I think we do. And we'll
be on the air for a ton of hours out
here to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. All right, we'll
take a break, we'll come back, we'll check in. Corben
Smith's going to join me his weekly visit from Emeralds
that he spectrum on Day one of the twenty twenty
five NFL Draft.

Speaker 1 (38:37):
Oh from the Star Rentals Sports to us your ninety
three point three KKRFMS sports headlines.

Speaker 2 (38:43):
Headlines are brought to you by Frost Brewed Corps Light
Choose Chill. Day one of the twenty twenty five NFL
Draft is here. It's upon a Seahawks taking and pick
number eighteen in the first round. He set's a schedule
five picks in the first ninety two. When it's all
said done over Days one and two, Rounds two and
three are to more rounds four through seven coming up
on Saturday. We will have coverage of course here on

(39:03):
niney three point three KJFM throughout the draft. We're on
the year live tonight until nine pm. Same with tomorrow
until nine pm and starting at nine am on Saturday morning,
your home for the best NFL Draft covers Night three
point three KJRFM. All right, Mariner is gonna win today
over Boston for to three. What a great road trip
they win all three series. Brian Woo gets the win.
Six innings, three hits, two earned runs, eight strikeouts and

(39:26):
just one walk for the Mariners in that game. They
just kind of chipped away and got the four runs.
Mitch Garver at two run double, I guess would be
the biggest hit along the way.

Speaker 3 (39:35):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (39:36):
Dylan Moore and Julio both with RBIs as well. M's
return home take on Miami tomorrow, start a home stand
against the Marlins.

Speaker 3 (39:44):
That's enough, we need to get right to it. Let's
talk draft with Corbyn Smith.

Speaker 1 (39:48):
Well, NFL Draft coming to you live from the Virginia
Mason Athletics Center. This is the twenty twenty five NFL
Draft and brought to you by gors Life, by r
n Are Foundation specialist the Queen Anne bear Ho and
by Fox thirteen. Now day three the NFL Draft and
your host Ian Furness.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
All right, we're back here at the Virginia Mason Athletics
Center and a shout out to the great pr staff
here with the Seahawks. This is always a long three days,
but they treat us well. They set this thing up perfectly,
and it's a ton of fun to come out and
cover this thing every single year, going back to the
days at Northwest College for some of us, not Corbyn,

(40:30):
but the rest of us. And obviously we'll be here
all day today, all day tomorrow into the early evening
until nine pm the next two nights, and then starting
at nine am on Saturday. Rob rang will be with us.
Hugh Millan will be with us. Mike Holmgren is actually
here walking around. I tried to get him kicked out.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
You see that.

Speaker 12 (40:46):
Yeah, I was with you. It's just you can't have contractions,
can't have.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Riff raff like that walking around. Holdgrian just walks in
here a little while ago, like stuff getting set up.
No one else is allowed in here. Nless you go like,
well they just let anybody you had to get escorted
up here.

Speaker 3 (41:02):
Yeah I did it.

Speaker 2 (41:02):
He just walked You know who didn't the guy that
built this place and designed it.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
He just walked in. It's like I'm home going.

Speaker 2 (41:09):
Corbin Smith is year Emerald City Spectrum. What he got
up on the website real quick?

Speaker 12 (41:13):
Right now, yeah, right now, we I just put up
our track or obviously we don't have any picks up yet,
but you can check that all evening while this is unfolding.
I've got all my scheme fits on there for college,
including guards and centers for zone blocking. We've got big
body receivers. You can also check out nose tackles, which
now is an even bigger deal. With Cameron Young being

(41:34):
waived yesterday.

Speaker 3 (41:35):
What do you think of that?

Speaker 12 (41:36):
By the way, I'm not surprised, to be honest, with
the knee thing last year seemed pretty ominous, especially when
he only lasted one game that had to go back on.
I'm assuming with the timing of that that they probably
had a physical or something that happened and it just
just wasn't healthy. But we haven't had any information come
out from the team on that funx So all right,
let's get to the draft itself.

Speaker 3 (41:56):
Corbin Smith here with us.

Speaker 2 (41:57):
We're also stream live right now on the Fox Local stream,
and we big shout out to the folks there with
the folks at Fox thirteen who've been they've I mean
they'll be here Aaron, and don't listen everybody as well.
Let's talk about what should happen, what could happen, what
may happen. Based on history, we know this, they'll take
offensive lineman. Let's just start there for a second, because

(42:20):
I think that's the biggest thing that people. It's almost
a misnomer. It's like, oh, they got to take some
offensive lineman. It's like what it said like that, It's
almost like, well, they've never taken offensive lineman. Since twenty
ten when John Schwinder first got here, fifteen drafts, he's
taken twenty eight offensive lineman, fourteen tackles, twelve guards, and
two centers. Now, those positions also were interchangeable. Some guys
like Britt moved a center who was a tackle and

(42:41):
all those things. But that's the most of any position
group since he's been here. They've taken offensive lineman. The
problem is, have they taken quality offensive lineman. Not really,
let's start.

Speaker 12 (42:51):
Haven't developed them either, and that's something you think that's
the issue. Schneyder's talked about that a lot this offseason.
I think that was a big part of them bringing
in John Benton, who has been in the offensive line
coaching world in the NFL for twenty five plus years,
So you bring in somebody that's really well versed, and
I think last year it was clear that Scott Huff

(43:11):
was just kind of over its head last year in
his first year in the NFL, and they wanted to
go the opposite direction and really good experience. So they're
banking a lot on the guys they've drafted the last
three years, getting coached up by Benton and Rick Dennison
and everybody else that's been brought in this coaching staff,
which is why I will be surprised if they draft
more than two offensive linemen with these ten picks.

Speaker 2 (43:32):
So the guys they already have here, we know the
two tackles, and I just saw Charles Cross actually earlier
walking down looking good, looking healthy, and Abe Lucas is
apparently going to be healthy for the first time in a.

Speaker 3 (43:43):
Long long he looks great the videos I've seen here.

Speaker 2 (43:46):
So the tackles are fine, it's the guards and the
centers were looking at They have Ola, Timmy, Mike Devitski,
and Jalen Sindel all listed his centers on the roster
right now. Ye Christian Haynes and Anthony Bradford, Josh Jones
is aw and then obviously you got some other guards
in there too, including La Maya would fit into that category.

Speaker 3 (44:06):
Two.

Speaker 2 (44:07):
They've got some bodies. The question is which of those
bodies can truly develop and take that next step. Because
a year ago on Friday, we sat here in this
seat and we had Jim Mora Junior on He's telling
us Christian Haynes, third round pick, we're all expecting this
guy to start, and it just didn't work. Scheme wise
or whatever. It just didn't work for Hanes. So let's

(44:28):
start with Christian Hanes, a third round pick last year.
Is he ready to step in?

Speaker 12 (44:32):
Do you think that's the player from this group that
I still think has Pro Bowl or even All Pro
potential if you can just get him in the right system.
And I think this will be the right system for him.
When you turn on the Yukon tape, there's some nastiness
to him. He can drive guys off the ball. Mora
told us that last year. But he is a plus
athlete at the guard spot. He is really good at
his own blocking, and I think getting him on the

(44:54):
move is going to bring out more in his game.

Speaker 3 (44:57):
And honestly, when you went back and watched when he
played last year, were there some mistakes? Yeah?

Speaker 12 (45:02):
But I kept wondering why isn't he getting more opportunities?
And I don't know if Scott Huff just had some
issues with him or what, but I think John Benton
is really gonna like this kid. So Christian Haynes is
the one from that guard group that I still think. Look,
it's been one season. We've seen a lot of times
where guys have disappointing rookie years and then they turn
things around, especially there's a coaching staff change. I still

(45:23):
think Christian Haynes has the talent to be a really
good starter.

Speaker 3 (45:25):
Because you can't miss on the third round pick. Let's
be honest.

Speaker 2 (45:27):
I mean, if you're picking a guard in the third round,
you're expecting him to come in and not just play
for you, but start for you as well. You know,
It's one thing lat In May was a six round pick,
so that's a little different deal.

Speaker 12 (45:35):
If he develops great, If not, then he's still He
still had some good moments last year too. That's the
reason again I'm not necessarily defending John Schneider on saying
that we you know, we just like all the guys
we had from last year. But those guys are gonna
be in their second season like you expect them to
get better. So I understand that rationale. And that's why again,
I don't think they're gonna be going out. Some fans

(45:56):
are mock drafting like six guards. They're not gonna be
doing that.

Speaker 2 (46:00):
What would surprise you at eighteen? What was if they
made a pick, not even a player, just position group
or something. At eighteen they pick something that surprises you,
what would it be? There's only three positions that I
would put on there. Center because this is a terrible
center class, quarterback because you just signed Drew Locke. And
that doesn't mean they couldn't draft when at some point,

(46:20):
I just I see no way they're doing in the
first round and running back if they trade Ken Walker
something during the draft, and there's been some stuff, there's.

Speaker 3 (46:28):
Some rumors about that, but I don't know buying it.
I'm not buying it for one thing.

Speaker 12 (46:32):
Who's going to give up any draft picks for running back?
This is the best running back draft class in twenty
five years.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
I think that because Cornas Smith would you're using common
sense and I hate when people do use common sense
on sports radio, because that's not what we're supposed to
be doing here.

Speaker 3 (46:46):
Just it's ridiculous. You can't do that. No, but you're right,
Like as deep.

Speaker 2 (46:50):
As this running back class is, and even though ken
Walker is an established NFL player and has times flash brilliance,
he's also been banged up a lot. You're in all
last year of his contract too, so you're not gonna
get value for him in a trade. You're better off
holding on to him if you want to draft the
guy later and to go with McIntosh and Sharpona and him. Fine,
but I'm with you. I can't see a running back
going early. I can't see I certainly not a center.

Speaker 5 (47:13):
What else?

Speaker 3 (47:14):
Quarterback?

Speaker 12 (47:14):
Those are the three positions, but I could see I
can see linebacker. Look, Tyree's Knight was good last year.
But if you can get Jihad Campbell, j Hid Campbell
can mush off the edge and he is the best
cover linebacker in this draft by a very large margin. Cornerback,
there's some really fun players like if Will Johnson somehow
falls near lap Shavin Ravel. I know he's come out

(47:34):
of an ACL injury, but six' three looks like he
was carved By greek, gods had two picks and three
games last. Year he's a fantastic player that was getting
first round buzz before that. Injury Jday baron's a really
good player that kind of Has Devin witherspoon. Trades you
could mix those two guys inside and. OUT i could
keep going on with those. Positions Nicka minawari is a
fantastic football.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
Player And i'm. Tired, Listen i'm gonna rant here for a.

Speaker 12 (47:58):
SECOND i during this time of a, YEAR i get
so tired of the character assassinations that we see on
so many of these. Kids i've talked to two teammates
Of A mentawari From South carolina this, week and there's
been all these reports like the question about is love
of football and his. Leadership both teammates THAT i talked
to who are starters on that Game cox. Team so
the dude, eats, sleeps and breathes, football and he was

(48:21):
awesome in the locker. Room and So i'm talking to
guys that were actually in the locker. ROOM i just
feel like there's so much just throwing stuff on a,
wall just trying to make guys look bad that doesn't you,
know if it's somebody Like Mike.

Speaker 3 (48:31):
Green that has a history of doing, stuff that's.

Speaker 2 (48:33):
Different but, WELL i Think, corbyn what what you look
at this time of the. Year there's a lot of
stuff going on and that type of, thing a character,
assassination is going to come with the territory that agents
are trying to float stuff out. There teams are trying
to float stuff out there because everyone's trying to, maneuver
whether it's a client into a better position to getting,
drafted or maybe it's a team trying to put a
smoke screen up and get somebody to stay away from

(48:55):
a player along the. Way SO i think if, you're
if you're at this time of the year one of
the those, guys you just got to have thick, skin
sit back and, say, Listen i've done my thirty. Visits
the guys know WHO i. Am, away we go and move.
On let me just. TALK i want to get back
to the eighteenth pick in a second for something, else
but let me just talk quarterback for a, second BECAUSE
i think it's an interesting. Thing so they obviously Signed Sam.
Donald it was The donald For Gino smith. Trade we've

(49:17):
all talked about that seems to be better, here younger,
quarterback less, money blah blah, blah not tied into him
for too.

Speaker 3 (49:23):
Long things like.

Speaker 2 (49:24):
That good fit for, now especially in a weak quarterback,
class like we can't get past. That this is a
weak quarterback. Class neither one of these two top guys
or three if you want to Include jackson Dart. Right
our guys that would have been picked in the first
round a year. Ago And i'm not saying a year ago,
now like say they had their same seasons they just
had and they're in this draft with the other six.
Guys they wouldn't be first round. Picks Ken ward wouldn't

(49:46):
be a first round, pick more than likely In shador for,
sure and he may not be a first round pick.
Anyway so you stay away from those. Guys but the
interesting thing is.

Speaker 3 (49:54):
The Drew lock.

Speaker 2 (49:54):
Part they're effusive in his praise for. Him they bring
him in as a backup To. Donald still young enough
guy to. Me that tells me that if you're gonna
take a, quarterback it's going to be quite late and
it's gonna be very much a developmental.

Speaker 3 (50:06):
Guy, yeah the one.

Speaker 12 (50:07):
Name, look my final mock draft THAT i posted On,
MONDAY i used a seventh round pick on, him and
some of my listeners are, like we don't want Another Kirk.
Cousins Like Kirk cousins has had a really good, career
and that Is Curtis rourke For. Indiana the dude played
all of last year on a torn acl twenty nine
touchdown passes in five. Interceptions he Took indiana from being

(50:29):
a Perennial big ten cellar dweller to The College Football
playoff last. Year incredibly, accurate very quick, release and when he's,
Healthy he's not like a super dual threat or, anything
but when he's healthy he moves fairly. Well you could
tell last year something was not, right BUT i watched
recent video, clip but he's already out.

Speaker 3 (50:46):
Throwing he's moving really.

Speaker 12 (50:47):
Well you could red shirt him for a year though In,
seattle and then he could come in and he could
Give Sam darnold to rent for his, money BECAUSE i
think if he wouldn't have been, hurt we're talking about
him getting drafted.

Speaker 2 (50:57):
MUCH i mean that makes sense to. Me, like like
the weird one is like what If schadu are sitting
there at? Eighteen there's just just you can't do. THAT i,
Mean i'll we'll talk to you about it later in this.
WEEK i mean he he basically, said eighth. Grade you,
know watch an eighth grade you, know recess with this,
guy you, know running around footworks. Awful all the different
things you see that he sees as a quarterback THAT i.
Don't but you, KNOW i Just i've Got Jackson darta

(51:18):
ahead of him one, man and it feels like that's
coming up. Now that might be also part of what
you just talked, about is the character assassination that that takes,
place you, know like that's that's one of the other
things that kind of goes.

Speaker 3 (51:27):
On and so maybe that, is but you didn't have
to look too far to see.

Speaker 2 (51:30):
That like just watch a, game AND i MEAN i
go back to The wazoo game a year ago In,
pullman he tapped, Out dion tapped out like that to
me is a massive red.

Speaker 3 (51:39):
Flag like they tapped. OUT i don't. SEE i just
don't see a guy that's got a high.

Speaker 12 (51:44):
CEILING i think he can come in and compete for
a starting role for a few teams.

Speaker 3 (51:48):
Right, now BUT i don't.

Speaker 12 (51:49):
SEE i don't see a guy that's going to elevate
himself to being a top TEN qb in the.

Speaker 2 (51:52):
League, uh if If loveland's there the tight end From
michigan at, Eighteen i've been hearing some things about medical
that would maybe concern me a little.

Speaker 12 (52:01):
Bit it all depends on what The seahawks think on that.
Front obviously missed some time last. Year there's been some
talk about knee. Issues but if he's, healthy smooth route,
running tight, end and this offense is going to use tight,
Ends Klinck koobiak is going to throw the have the
ball thrown to tight, ends that is going to be an.
Emphasis they're gonna run a lot of two and three
tight end. Sets so if you think that he can

(52:22):
come in and immediately work a, LOT i mean he AND. A.
J barner played together for a, Year so if you
don't Think. NO A fan is going to be here
beyond this upcoming, season then that would make some. Sense
but there's so many other positions that are strong in
this draft. TOO i don't know that that necessarily would
be the best move for The.

Speaker 2 (52:38):
Seahawks Corpus Smith Emerald City spectrum with us here at
The Virginia Mason Athletics center were two hours and forty
four minutes away from the start of the draft twenty twenty.

Speaker 3 (52:48):
FIVE i can't get here soon.

Speaker 2 (52:49):
Enough i've all talked about it, endlessly and we'll get
to that. Point the wide receiver positions an interesting one
In seattle as. Well they don't really have unless you
want to Call Marcus Feldis gantling that. Guy but by
all accounts probably lost a little bit of a step here.
There they don't really have AN x.

Speaker 12 (53:05):
Like they have the slowest receiving core in THE nfl right,
now they have two guys in their roster that ran
a four four nine or faster at pro daser.

Speaker 3 (53:13):
Combines, yeah they are the slowest.

Speaker 2 (53:16):
Roster let me go through, this So scantling is would
be considered still, okay faster.

Speaker 12 (53:20):
Scant scantling And Drek young are the two receivers that
would check that box. Off everybody else was four or
five cup In jigba In jigba ran a four to
five to Two John reeves.

Speaker 2 (53:32):
Plumbly we Know bobo didn't come. Close we know Why
Jake bobo didn't get Drafted River. Craycraft he's, quick not. Fast,
yeah so, yeah so that has to be a, need,
Right it?

Speaker 12 (53:45):
Does look if, ten if tenoroa McMillan drops to number.
EIGHTEEN i think you absolutely have to consider it because
he has the ability to take a top off the.

Speaker 3 (53:54):
Defense he's six foot, four he can win the jump.

Speaker 12 (53:57):
Balls there's some after the catch, ability BUT i actually
like a couple other receivers better at that. SPOT A
mecca At buka From Ohio, State, Spanaway, Washington, BUDDY i
love the.

Speaker 3 (54:08):
Kids what do you like about? Him just his route
running savvy and.

Speaker 12 (54:11):
Listen there's a lot of people, saying, well he's an
identical To jacksmith And, jig BUT i don't see. THAT
i see a guy that's got a little more big
playability in terms of getting. Downfield but he's another guy
that can create after the. Catch he's a tough minded,
blocker and he's an outstanding locker room. Guy everybody you
talk to about this kid just raves about. Him So
igbuka would make. Sense Luther, burden the third From missouri

(54:33):
might be the best after the catch receiver in this entire.
Draft maybe after a trade down you would go that.
Route And i'm gonna throw one more name out here
That i'm higher on than a lot of. People Jaden
higgins From Iowa State he is built very similarly To tetoa,
McMillan but he's.

Speaker 3 (54:47):
Faster he ran in a low four. Fours he has
the ability to create.

Speaker 12 (54:51):
Separation he did not have as many contested catch opportunities
Of Iowa state because he's better at separating than What
tetroha McMillan is not as. Many and he also is
a really good run blocker and gets after. It AND
i will, state you don't play if you can't run.
BLOCK i just don't Think higgins is an underrated asset
in this. Draft all, Right so we look at we
look at what they've got going on as far as the.

(55:12):
Draft we'll wrap it up With Corbyn Smith Emerald City.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
Spectrum so we talked about the five picks in the
first ninety, two, right is that it is, yeah.

Speaker 3 (55:18):
First ninety only team that has that. Many and then.

Speaker 2 (55:21):
After that they've got, one, two, three, four five more,
Picks so you got ten picks. Total why DON'T i know,
That i'm my mind's already. Emotion we're day one in the. Draft,
Uh snyder's never moved up in the. DRAFT i can't
see that happening this. Year it feels like there's a
lot of teams that do want to move. Down so
it feels like this is a year we're probably not
gonna have a lot of. Drama we're gonna. Stand he's
gonna stand pad at. Eighteen, yeah we'll.

Speaker 3 (55:43):
See this is the most un say that by the,
way it's gonna. Happen there's gonna be.

Speaker 12 (55:47):
Changes, watch but this is the most unpredictable draft That
i've covered SINCE i have been in the business in terms.

Speaker 3 (55:53):
Of justaghe league.

Speaker 12 (55:55):
White, yeah just trying to figure out if there's gonna
be movement or, not because if you would have asked
me that question two weeks, AGO i, said nobody's moved
from their native, picks which is. Unprecedented at this, POINT
i just don't know that you're gonna see. Movement but
Now i'm feeling like we could see after the first
fifteen picks or, so you've got like forty players bunched
together that are similar, grades that are fringe first second

(56:17):
round picks in this. Class if there's a lot of
starter caliber guys that aren't blue, Chippers.

Speaker 2 (56:21):
So you go first, fifteen That's indianapolis Fourteen totlanta's. Fifteen
then he Goes Arizona, Cincinnati, Seattle Tampa, Bay, Denver Pittsburgh,
Chargers Green, bay et.

Speaker 12 (56:29):
Cetera there's one pick THAT i would watch, There atlanta
at number. Fifteen The falcons have only five selections right
now in this. Draft if the right offensive, lineman let's,
say if Somehow Kelvin Banks junior From texas OR i
don't Think Will campbell's gonna fall past the top, five
But i'm just, saying if one of those top tackles
that could play guard drops, there or there's a defender

(56:51):
that The seahawks are intrigued, by you only have to
move up three. Spots you could move one of your third,
rounders and if you want to recoup that or recoop
a pick, later you can trade back with one of
Those day two. Selections the other thing that might happen
That John schnider's never. Done you have all those picks day.
Two if there's another player you really, want end of
the first early, second they could go.

Speaker 3 (57:09):
Up they could, pick they could make two picks. TONIGHT
i think there is a decent chance that could, happen
so straight back into the first round later to take it.

Speaker 12 (57:15):
Away Donovan jackson From Ohio, state who is fringe, first early.
Second but if there's been a run on, lineman that
is a guy that would be an excellent fit in this,
offense go get him late in the.

Speaker 3 (57:25):
First now you have the fifth year option to go with.

Speaker 2 (57:27):
It so you even though you were kind of high
on a couple of the returning, guards you still think
that could.

Speaker 12 (57:32):
HAPPEN i still think you have to take a guard
with the first three, picks with fifty and fifty two
or your first. ROUNDER i just don't don't force it at.
Eighteen AND i know some people hate that, usage that,
verbiage but that's the way it. Works you don't want
to pick somebody just based on. Need if there's a,
Player if you Think Kenneth grant is the best player
on your, board you need a nose, tackle go make it.
Happen he's a dynamic nose. Tackle if you Think Donovan

(57:55):
ezeraku From Boston college is the best player, available second
in the nation in, sacks outstanding team guy That Bill,
brian LONGTIME nfl, coach had just raided, about then you go.

Speaker 3 (58:04):
Drafting, see and that's what we didn't talk about that. Much.

Speaker 2 (58:06):
CORMAN i there is a need for an. Edge there
is a definite need for an. EDGE i, mean mafe
had to drop off was my.

Speaker 12 (58:13):
PICK i had him trading down with The chargers in
my last mock, Draft chargers going up and Get love And.
Loveland because he played For harball At. Michigan that to
me is a natural fit to keep an eye on
if he's still in that.

Speaker 3 (58:24):
Because you've got.

Speaker 2 (58:24):
LISTEN i, mean, Look mafay is gonna be out for
the or. Not Mafay, newels who's gonna be out for
maybe the start of the, season we'll, see but it's.
Good he's gonna be pushing the finish line, there and
Then Mafey.

Speaker 12 (58:34):
Hall mafey is a free agent after this, year and
you got to decide is he going to be somebody
we're going to give a contract. To SO i Think edge,
is LIKE i, SAID I i picked As, Araku And
i've heard. Grumblings Really Marcus lawrence is thirty, two by the,
Way so, Yeah i've heard some rumblings since the combine
That ezraku is a player that this this organization holds

(58:56):
higher guard.

Speaker 2 (58:56):
For shameless self. Promotion, sir what do you, Got, Yeah
Emeralds spectrum Dot.

Speaker 12 (59:00):

yeah barning, questions the essential.

Happens gorbyan thinks maybe there might be a little. Surprised
maybe they could find a way to have a second
prick in the first, round move one of those those
second or third rounders to try to jump up a little.
Bit so we'll see if that. Happens, jess let's get
to some texts at four, nine four five. One i'm,
stunned but apparently The Earl thomas interview had a lot

(01:01:58):
of feedback.

Speaker 4 (01:01:58):
Today it does appear doesn't stun me at.

Speaker 10 (01:02:01):
All that was a really special time to talk to,
him his first time back even in the state Of
washington since twenty.

Speaker 4 (01:02:07):
Eighteen.

Speaker 2 (01:02:08):
Too, yeah you know when HE i didn't that didn't
really kind of resonate with me first for. Time when
you get, Old, jess it just kind of doesn't mean.

Speaker 4 (01:02:16):
As much how long that. Was, yeah twenty eighteen was a.

Speaker 2 (01:02:18):
Long damn time here. Was it's a, pandemic could, go
is what it. Was, yeah the first time he's been
back here since. Then so cool to hear From. Earl
four two Five Earl, thomas the bad the, badass and
the bad ass is.

Wow gave me chills from the two o. Six hearing
From Earl.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
Thomas there's an interesting part Because i'm not there's SOMETHING
i can't read for obvious, reasons either in The fox
stream OR. Kjr But earl's he is. Polarizing there's no
doubt about. That he's a very polarizing guy in so
many different. Ways ring Of honors for great players and honorable.
People earl does not qualify in the, latter says the two.

Speaker 10 (01:02:58):
Six people have different opinions on the way that he.

Speaker 2 (01:03:03):
LEFT i, think, WELL i, WOULD i, WOULD i would
counter with. This do you Think Richard sherman will be
in The ring Of?

Speaker 5 (01:03:12):
Honor?

Speaker 3 (01:03:12):
Yes do you think do you Think Russell wilson will
be in The ring Of? Honor? Yes, Okay so.

Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
All different, exits by the, way.

Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Very different, exits very different situations off the field as
well as on the. Field all of them had different
types of things going. On and YET i think all
three of those guys will be in The ring Of.
Honor you, know it's that's just the way. It's you
can't can he easily suit the, team like sue the.
Organization he's in The ring.

Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
Of honor and The hall Of fame right.

Speaker 2 (01:03:42):
Now so stoked That earl was on blank him meaning to.
APOLOGIZE i get why he was, upset.

Speaker 3 (01:03:48):
Says The Two Less.

Speaker 10 (01:03:49):
Six, yeah we touched on that, earlier that it was
not only the heat of the battle when he made
his final appearance to The, twelves if you, will but
it was also after a season ending injury without a contract,
extension and he still played his butt off enough to
get season ending.

Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
Injury during that, time he was pissed for many.

Speaker 10 (01:04:08):
Reasons, Yeah i'm just.

Speaker 2 (01:04:12):
Looking i'm trying to find ONES i can actually read
on the. Air, ian thank you for keeping The Earl
thomas interview. Positive, yeah, LISTEN i went back and forth
on that about whether or not to talk about different.
THINGS i certainly wasn't going to talk about what a
lot of you guys are texting about right. Now about
whatever he wants to do in his own personal, life
that's up to him and that's not my, business and,
frankly it's none of your damn business. Either it's, slacious it's,

(01:04:34):
fun it's. Crazy you talk about all you, want but very.

Speaker 4 (01:04:37):
Tmz.

Speaker 2 (01:04:38):
Yeah the only thing THAT i was debating about whether
or not was talking about his exit From, seattle AND
i just didn't feel like that was the time to do.

Speaker 10 (01:04:44):
SO i also think that you teat him much to
say what he wanted to say to the people Of
seattle towards the end of that, interview and that will
be up later for people who may have missed.

Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
It the full interview will be.

Speaker 2 (01:04:54):
Up and if you missed the best part of it
Was Dan Quinn.

Speaker 4 (01:04:56):
Colin, yeah you.

Speaker 10 (01:04:58):
GOTTA i MEAN I i think the point of that
is to show how special the coaches Were beer him
AND dk worked with him the closest as the defensive
coordinator during that legion Of boom.

Speaker 2 (01:05:09):
Era it's just it also, speaks as we're Talking earl about,
that the success That John schneider and his staff had early.

wagner's going to be A hall Of. Famer on the
very first, Ball Russell wilson enough, said Super bowl winning
quarterback and me just go through these. Guys that that
was the first three. Drafts he just hit the whole.
Runs he's been better, lately Has schneider and his. Staff
they haven't been great over the probably the two thousand.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
And thirteen ish through.

Speaker 2 (01:06:20):
Really twenty twenty not very, good but they've been better.
Lately Jackson smith And jagba and Obviously Devin Witherspoon Byron.
MURPHY i don't want to see the jury still out on,
him BUT i THINK i think they'll be fine there as.

that was a good.

Speaker 3 (01:06:59):
INTERVIEW i would just say THAT i think.

Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
OPINIONS i think the issues with the former quarterback run
deeper than they do with with what with our guy
with With, EARL i would JUST i WOULD i would
just say THAT i think THAT i think THEY i
think they kind of run.

Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
