(00:00):
Hello, it's Angie Ward. Thankyou so much for joining me on my
podcast today. I'm so excited totalk to an old friend, Chris Lane.
Chris and I have known each otherfirst. I don't even want to
tell you how many years. Okayto the point where before you even signed
a record deal, he used tocome hang out in the studio with me

(00:20):
as I was doing my radio show. So today we talked to Chris about
some fun things we used to doin the past and his brand new EP
that just came out. Angie,my love. Oh my gosh, Chris,
how are you. I'm great.I'm great. I'm so excited to
talk to you more big things.Oh my gosh. When I saw your

(00:42):
name, I was, I wasvery freaking excited. How are you being.
I'm good. I'm good. Iwas. I was thinking about you
the other day. It's fair season, right, and you and I spent
so many falls at the Carolina ClassicFair in Winston Salem, North Carolina.
You play in the clock tower.Stay. How many years did you do

(01:03):
that? Oh my gosh. Somebodysent me a picture from the sign that
said Chris Lane Band, and itgave all the times that I was playing
at the cro Tower stage and itwas like four separate shows. Like that's
crazy to think about a good time. Right, you've gone from the clock
Tower stage too. I know youplayed overseas that big Sea four CE festival.

(01:26):
It's just been so awesome in myhonor to watch your star rise all
the way from Kernersville, North Carolina. And I'm so proud that you're my
friend. First of all, Igot to get I got to get some
things out of the way. Howare Lauren and the boys? Lauren and
the Boys are doing fantastic. Bakerjust turned one two days ago and Dunton

(01:46):
turned two this summer, so weare, as you know, stealing the
thick of it and grinding it out. But it's been amazing and very exhausting
all of the time, right right, I know, I know. And
you've been working on a new albumthat's coming out. Yeah, you spent
a long time coming. I feellike I've started my fans long enough.
You know. It was twenty eighteen, twenty nineteen is since I've released my

(02:08):
last like little body of Work, minus a few songs sprinkled in from there.
But very excited to have these firstfive songs and many to come out
into the world and just could notbe more proud to be a writer on
them. And I feel like it'svery me high energy, just fun songs,
and I feel like these are someof the best songs that I've had

(02:30):
throughout my career, so prompted toobviously get back out on the road and
play them live. But you know, first step get the fans to hear
them, and that starts now.So yes, check it out. It
is out now, the new EPwhere I'm Sipping, and the new single
is find Another Bar. Tell mea little about that, Yeah, find
Another Bar. You know, Ihaven't recorded a ton of breakup slash heartbreak

(02:53):
songs throughout my career, and itis country music, you got to have
a few of those. So Iwrote this song with another artist, Josh
Thompson, and one that I kindof had, you know, for the
last three years. I've just beenlistening to the demo and still loved everything
about it and grateful I finally gotto record it and it was the first

(03:15):
song that we put out off ofthe EP. I feel every every artist
needs a good breakup song, andI felt like this was a cool way
to write one. And you clearedthat with Lauren, Like you went in
and said, honey, I'm I'mreleasing this song. Please don't take it
as anything, right, Yeah, absolutely, And I said, you know,
if you ever divorced me, thisis gonna be our song. No,

(03:39):
that would never happen, all right, So it changed from big,
big plans to find another part.Right, you'd have the whole spectrum,
but we're not. We're not evenputting that out in the universe. I
guess we did, but I knowyou and I were both pretty sad about
our braves. Oh my gosh,I've never been more heartbroken in my entire
life. Like it's I'm still hurt. You know, I'm gonna tell you,

(04:00):
as your friend, you should probablytake a queue for Morgan Wallen and
you know he had ninety eight braves. You should get on it and write
twenty three braves, and I shouldtwenty three braves. It's a it was
an incredible year in a tough let. Now it was awful. Like I'm
still like, every time I thinkabout it, I just get sick at
my stomach. I'm like, whatit's it's I think it's bad for a

(04:25):
fan because we're just sitting there helpless, right, we can't do anything.
I agree it was. It wasincredibly tough to watch, and I feel
like the falls room now, youknow, even my Panthers, we haven't
won a game. All those kids. We cannot talk about the Panthers.
I mean, I'd love them too, but it's just I'm pretending it's not
even football season. I'm just like, it doesn't feel like football season right

(04:48):
now. I know, I know, at least I still have my Steelers,
and I mean the Falcons, Icheer for them too, But yeah,
right, it is fall. Halloween'scoming up. What are what are
the boys going to dress up as? Or is that a Lauren question?
Yeah, so we've kind of figuredit out and we're still figuring out how
to execute it, but we're goingto do it. I feel like as

(05:09):
a little boy doesn't reminds me alittle bit of Kevin from Home Along,
So we're going to dress him upas Kevin from Home Along, and Lauren
and I are going to be Harryand Marv. I love it. That's
fantastic. I love it when youguys do that. Well. I'm very
excited to hear the rest of thealbum. You've given me a few little
sneak feaks here and there. Howdo you like? I know this is
a little inside baseball and kind ofbehind the scenes, but something big that's

(05:31):
happened to you in the last years. You have changed record labels, right,
so now you're working with new people, one of them being Jada Marcus
of Rascal Flats. How is that? Because he's such a legend. I
know, it's been amazing. Youknow. I was out on tour with
Rascal Flats years ago and got toknow him really well and had kind of
reached this beautiful part in my careerwhere I could take more ownership and that

(05:57):
allowed me to create my own recordlabel, which then I partnered with Red
Street, And it's really been adream collab and obviously a dream for me
to to start my own record labeland to do something completely different. And
now I have a lot more creativecontrol over over the songs I write and
the songs I record, and I'mjust a so proud and hamped again to

(06:20):
get these first five songs out there. And Jay's been amazing to wurk with.
We even worked a little bit intothe studio on some of these songs,
and obviously with the level of successthat the Flats have had. I
was all ears and he really coachedme up in a great way and in
a different way than I've been usedto in the past, and made a

(06:41):
great collaboration. I'm very excited foreverybody to hear these songs. It's a
new EP. It is out calledwhere I'm Sipping. I almost thought it
said where I'm Slipping, and Ithought, now, he's not falling down.
It should be as many times haveI fallen on stage, it should
be from where I'm slipping. Listen, You're no Luke Bryan so in that

(07:03):
aspect, Chris Lane. Everybody pleasecheck out the new ep, where I'm
Sipping. The new song is findAnother Bar. You better give Lauren and
the boys a little smooch and hugfor me. Okay, I definitely will,
thank you very much,
