Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hey, everybody, it's Menace and I'm about to interview doctor
Joyce Kong, who is an ambassador for their Breath, which
I am a huge fan of. Now we've talked about
this on The Woody Show a lot. Now, again, this
is not a sponsor podcast or anything like that, but
I really wanted to talk to doctor Kong about why
their breath is so much better than other products, and

(00:24):
maybe some tips and tricks on how you can get
better breath because it is a subject so close to
my heart and to people on the Woody Show. So
I have been accused of having bad breath in the
past in the past, and I say it was probably
because of what I ate. And then also coffee really
early in the morning, and I share a studio with

(00:45):
so many people and we're really close, We're like shoulder
to shoulder, and people would mentioned once in a while
that I had bad breath. And then I discovered Thera Breath.
Not a sponsor, but should be because I've promoted this
product so much. But what would you do you say,
is the number one cause bad breath? Is it only
food or is there other things?

Speaker 2 (01:05):
There are a lot of reasons someone could have bad breath,
and it's really a matter of figuring out what's the
origin of it. So you know, like you could have
bad breath from cavities, perodonal disease. It's a lot of
times just oral hygiene. But then if oral hygiene's not
doing it, it could also be things like tonsilstones.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Yes, tonsilstones. Now, we're a good friend of Joe Cooy,
he's a comedian and he taught us about tonsilstones because
he had them. He actually pulled one out in the
studio before. Now, you probably don't think it's gross because
you're a dentist and you deal with it a lot.
But it is fascinating that the body can produce something

(01:46):
like that and it does not smell nice at all.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
It's like a little rotten egg. I don't know, it's
just it's so fascinating to me when people pull out
their tonsilstones and then like they show their friends and
have them smell.

Speaker 1 (02:00):
Yeah, and it reminds me a lot. And it looked
a lot like kidney stones, which I suffered from for
a quite a long time and it got rid of those. Now,
the term holatosis, I don't know how it became super
popular in pop culture, But can you explain what holatosis is?

Speaker 2 (02:16):
Holatosis is just that fancy word for having bad breath.
I feel like we started talking more about bad breath
on TikTok. Actually the kids they it's something that makes
them feel really self conscious, and I have to believe
it makes a lot of people feel self conscious. But
there wasn't a lot of conversation about it because it's

(02:39):
embarrassing to admit that you have holatosis.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Maybe there's a scientific thing to this, but you know
why we really can't smell our own breath or we
just used to it, or is there something behind that
where we just I don't know, mute it out of
our smelling capabilities.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's something like that. But you know, the best way
to check if you have bad breath objectively, Like objectively
is the key word here, because it's when you're just
like cupping your hand over your mouth and you smell
your own breath. Sometimes it's hard to tell. In order
to tell, you actually lick the back of your hand
and you have to let all of the liquid evaporate

(03:18):
and then you smell it because what's left over are
the sulfur salts. If it smells bad, then you have
bad breath.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
I have never heard that before. That is a good hack.
To use the term life hack, but that is definitely
a life hack in my book.

Speaker 2 (03:33):
I think it helps because some people are like, you know,
it's very much in their heads sometimes like they're self
conscious and they just cannot tell. This is a good
way to tell.

Speaker 1 (03:43):
At what point do you think people need to start
going to the doctor or going to the dentist. What
are the signs? I would say a sign that I
heard about, probably a bleeding of the gums will probably
be like a number one sign.

Speaker 2 (03:56):
Yeah, I think a lot of it. You can start
at home just to start the process of elimination, So
drink lots of water. It's super underrated. You have to
stay hydrated because bad breath can occur when you have
like dry mouth especially. I always say try at least
for three days to cut out coffee, wine, cigarettes, onions, garlic,

(04:22):
like basically all the good stuff, and then see if
that helps. If that doesn't, then you can talk to
your dentist and see if there's some sort of disease
factor going on with the mouth, such as cavities, paradonal
disease and if your dentist gives you the clearance like
says you're all good on that front, then you go

(04:44):
to the next level, which is maybe a primary care physician.
Maybe it's coming from the gut. Even an E and
T could be those dontal stones that we were talking about.
So there are many layers to it.

Speaker 1 (04:58):
I was tired of hearing about it from the people
that I shared the studio with, and we got a
text message into the radio station saying, hey, have you
ever tried their breath? And I've probably tried every single
mouthwash out there, and I go, you know what, I
never even heard of their breath. But then there was
more texts after I mentioned it on the air, like, oh,

(05:20):
their breath, it's the best. It works. And so I
went to my local target and there's quite a few
of them actually that I didn't really even notice before
I grabbed one. I tried it, and no complaints moving
forward about my breath. Now, why do you think their
breath worked better than anybody else?

Speaker 2 (05:40):
Fair breath is legit. I mean I had my doubts.
You know, all the kids on TikTok we're talking about
their breath. And I went and I bought it myself
as well. But it really does work. I think it's
because it's it's powered by oxy D eight and that
general rates oxygen, so bad breath bacteria usually like to

(06:04):
live in anaerobic environments and the oxygen introducing the oxygen
just kills a lot of that bad breath bacteria. And
I'm going to tell you pair it with tongue scraping.
It is like that duo. It works so well.

Speaker 1 (06:20):
Yeah, I keep it in the office now, I have
it at home, and then they even have the travel size,
which I love, and I just take it with me everywhere.
And I just found, like all the other ones, it'll
work for the moment, but their breath will last all
day long and it's it's great. I love it. Do
you have a favorite flavor of their breath?

Speaker 2 (06:41):
My favorite is mild mint, which sometimes it shocks people
because it doesn't burn like other traditional mouth princes. But
I love that. I also gargle with it, like you
have to get it to the back, the back of
the throat that's where all the bad breath bacteria live,
So you tongue scrape, you gargle it to the back

(07:01):
of your throat and like literally, it will kill all
the snow after like I use it, especially like after
I have Korean barbecue. There's like tons of garlic and onion,
so good if you like more of that tingling sensation.
The invigorating icy mint is really good too.

Speaker 1 (07:19):
Yeah, you just said both of my favorites. But there's
so many different ones that are available. Okay, now I'm
gonna throw this out here. Now, you're a big fan
of the products as am I and other than me,
and we work in like the the endorsement space. Other
than myself, who would you love to see be the
endorser for their breath?

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I would love for my son to be an endorse
He's only three, so you know he has some years
to go. Because their breath actually has really good kids'
mouth rins.

Speaker 1 (07:49):
How do you know that?

Speaker 2 (07:50):
Yeah? They and it's not full of all the weird
chemicals and stuff that a lot of the mouthprinces have.
And the flavors are so good, like U watermelon. I
know that he's going to love it, but usually we
wait till kids are around age six until or they
can like actually spit out. He's a little bit too young,
but I would love to have him on on board

(08:11):
as a fan as well.

Speaker 1 (08:13):
I think that'd be great. I've learned so much today
from you and I just want to thank you that
licking at the back of the hand, I'm telling you,
the people that listen to this interview, there's probably very
very few that I've heard that before, and it's going
to help so many people, I hope.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
So you know, I hope that it helps people like
really stay objective about this and not get into their
own heads. And you know, at least there are really
good products out there to help. And you can even
put it in your water pick.

Speaker 1 (08:40):
That's another at Ooh okay, oh, I have one more
question I just thought of now for it. The people
I work with, they're very direct that are radio DJs, right,
so they have like no filter. Do you have any recommendations?
Maybe you don't on how would you break the news
to somebody that they have bad breath?

Speaker 2 (08:59):
Oh? That is so hard?

Speaker 1 (09:02):
Yeah, how could you do that in a like a
nice way to say, hey, have you heard of their breath? Yeah?

Speaker 2 (09:08):
That's what I would do. Yeah, I would just like
get a bottle or you know, you know what those
tiny ones that you were talking about that are tsa friendly.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
Uh huh.

Speaker 2 (09:17):
You should just be like, hey, have you tried this?
It is so good, it works so well, and then
just give them out.

Speaker 1 (09:23):
Yeah, I think you would have to buy the whole
office floor, Like, oh hey, guys, you know, I was
listening to this, this interview about thorough breath, and I
entered a contest and I got the whole office some.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Does someone in the office have bad breath? This is
this directed to me?

Speaker 1 (09:37):
No, no, no, no, no. I mean I probably was
that person in the office. But I know of you know,
friends that I have who talk about people in the
office that have really bad breath, but they don't want
to like confront them about it and say anything directly
about them and have like a hostile work environment. But
everybody's talking about it. So like I'm trying to figure
out a nice way of getting them in a used

(10:00):
to this product.

Speaker 2 (10:01):
I just give him a gift. I put their breath
on the counter for my husband so that he has
to use it, just like I put floss in front
of him and sunscreen and everything else I want him
to use, implying yes, like this is a non negotiable
you have to do these things.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
Thank you, doctor Joyce Kong ambassador to their breath which
has saved my life. If you want to get some
thorough breath, I normally get it at Target, but I've
seen it in other grocery stores and things like that.
So if you want to change your life like I did,
go pick up some today.
