Speaker 1 (00:00):
Love catching up with the Frisno State women's basketball head
coach Jamie White. How are you doing?

Speaker 2 (00:05):
It's going good?

Speaker 1 (00:06):
How are you ck doing well? So of course we
got to talk Swish and Dish. We're very excited about that.
It's gonna be taking place this Sunday. Let's go ahead
and start off with that Swish and Dish.

Speaker 2 (00:16):
Right, Well, it's our first, it's our first ever since
I've been here kickoff dinner. We decided to name it
Swish and Dish because one of our kids that is
from Clovis North High School, Lady Aminson, a local valley kid,
she named it. So it's been kind of fun to
run with. And it's gonna be fun. We're gonna have

(00:37):
some really fun activities and events there, and then we're
gonna have great auction items. Obviously, get to meet the
girls and rub elbows with the girls a little bit,
and more importantly, you're gonna be there helping us out.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
Yep, gonna have a great time out there, Swish and Dish.
And I love this because you've done an amazing job
of getting the women out there in the community. The
two scrimmages that you did at the Middle schools and
now the Swish and Dish. I mean, you guys have
been out there at farmers' markets, you name it. It's
a big deal to get out there and just rub elbows,
say hello and introduce these young women to the five

(01:12):
to five nine.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah, we've we've had a great preseason, just getting in
the community talking about our schedule, talking about our our
team and some of the new new kids that we have. Obviously,
we got to play in front of our community, which
was really fun. We had a great turnout at both
both scrimmages. They were just inner squad, but it was

(01:34):
great for our student athletes too. And then the Swish
and Dish is really kind of like a big party
to get everything rolling for the new year. It's at
the See it's at a great venue. I don't know
if you've been out there, but that's the Senior Activity
Center out there on Clovis. It's a great venue. It's
gonna be really fun. We're gonna have drink tickets, we're

(01:57):
gonna have fun games, lots of prizes, lots of just
communicating with rals and getting to know a little bit
more about our program.

Speaker 1 (02:06):
And see, that's one thing that I definitely am looking
forward to getting to know a little bit more about
this women's basketball team. Yes, there's gonna be a live auction. Yes,
there's gonna be some raffle items, even a dessert dash,
which we're very excited for. Like you said, Clovis Senior
Activity Center right there on Third Street and Clovis it's
happening this Sunday. Make sure you get your tickets because

(02:27):
you definitely not only want to come meet the players
and meet the coaches, but just have a great time
with women's basketball from Fresno State. Here's one thing I
want to talk to you about. So they were just
talking about the preseason rankings and the preseason honors, and
I kind of ignore a lot of that because I
believe that a lot of teams, especially in the transfer
portal era, you really don't know what they're really bringing

(02:49):
to the table. Okay, you're gonna put that list out
there because you have to, but I feel Fresno State's
gonna be one of those shakeup teams on that list.
But they did talk about Mia Jacobs.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Yeah, I mean it was great. Mia Jacob last year
was an honorable mention All Conference. This year, she's been
you know names preseason, All Conference, and I do think
she has an exceptional skill set. She's able to score outside, inside,
she's been rebounding efficiently. She is the highest on our team.

(03:21):
So that was really great honor for her. I agree
with you being picked ninth was an ideal, but it's
not what we're going to end and we don't feel
like it, you know, labels us in any way, We're
excited with the team we have. I think we've got
really good part inside and outside. I think we're able
to score deep, and I think we're going to get

(03:43):
out and transition and run a little bit more this year.

Speaker 1 (03:46):
And one thing I know that your teams will do
play some defense.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
That's right, That's right. It all starts on defense. You know,
we talk about all the time. We got to crash
the boards. We're excited about. We're a little more physical,
a little more aggressive inside. I think we've got some
really good size. We've got some numbers inside too, and
you know, we want to stay healthy. But we're looking
good right now and excited to get things rolling.

Speaker 1 (04:12):
So of course we have Swish and Dish that's going
to be coming up this Sunday. We want everyone to
be out there. But we also got to remind everyone Monday,
November fourth, the season will kick off against Fresne Pacific.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah, we I'm really excited. We'll play across town Presne
Pacific at six o'clock that day, and then even before that,
we have our free exhibition, yes, on Friday night at
six o'clock.

Speaker 1 (04:37):
That's right, that's right. Tell everyone about it.

Speaker 2 (04:40):
Well, I mean, we got women's basketball every day this week,
the Monterey Bay team. You know, we have the ability
to do a closed door scrimmage. We did that earlier
this or last week, and then we get to have
the exhibition game, which is exactly like a game. It's
really your first chance to come into Save Mart and

(05:01):
see our team play somebody else. And you know, we
usually will play a Division two team or something early
just to get going. But it's our first it's our
first stand at home. We're going to do autographs after
the game. It can be your chance to get the
swish and dish tickets. It can be your chance to

(05:21):
I can't remember if we're going to shoot the half
court shot, but just get get a chance to get
our eyes on our players and get excited about the season.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Yeah, very excited about that, and once again that is
happening this Friday night. It actually is kind of one
of those events that can help kick off homecoming weekend
if you will.

Speaker 2 (05:39):
That's right, that's right, you know. And thing to remember
is women's basketball has free parking all year long. Yes,
so this is the first time ever we've been able
to have free parking, and we're so excited about that.
We fought for that and that makes that free exhibition
truly free.

Speaker 1 (05:59):
Yeah. Yeah, this Friday night free exhibition, truly free. Get
out there, possibly win Swish in dish tickets, and of
course support women's basketball before we let you go, Do
you want to talk about any other new faces that
people are going to be able to see Friday night
and at the upcoming game against Frisne Pacific as well.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Yeah, we have some great transfers. One is Mariah Elahim.
She is from LA but she transferred from Long Island University.
She is a deep three. She is our Caitlin Clark.
And then we've got Saga you Conan. She's from Finland.
She came from she transferred from Texas Tech, and she

(06:39):
is as tough as nails. She can defend all you
know full court. She she can you know, pull up,
she can hit threes, she can play just about any
any position. We've changed our offense a little bit. We've
we've put some up up tempo stuff in, so we're
really excited about that. And then in the post we've
got six or four kid from Australia, Holly Griffiths, and

(07:03):
we have Maria Constantinedo back who sees as tough as
any she's she can bang inside, but then she can
step out and hit the three too. So uh. Two
local kids we have on our team, Laney Emerson. I
talked about her a little bit. She she also can
face up, hit the three, great basketball player, comes from
a great basketball family in the valley. And then a

(07:26):
Lonnie Oliver from Buchanan High School, really quick guard. So
we're just really excited about our team. They get along great,
we have great culture, been working so hard and our
girls are really excited to play in front of the
red waves and show them, show them what we got.

Speaker 1 (07:42):
So once again, Friday night, save mar Center Free scrimmage,
get out there, support this team. Homecoming weekend. It's happening
all weekend long, and of course join US Swish and
Dish on Sunday in Clovis, starting at four o'clock. Is
there a website you want to tell people to go to.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
Yeah, if you want to sign up for the Swish
and Dish, it is at go Bulldogs Backslash or go
Bulldogs dot com Backslash events and then just go to
the Swish and Dish and you're able to sign up.
In fact, we're having a flash sale right now until
Thursday at noon. They were originally one hundred dollars. The
tickets right now are on sale for seventy five dollars.

Speaker 1 (08:22):
Nice. Nice, Jamie White. Can't wait to hang out with
you on Sunday. Can't wait to go out there and
support this women's basketball team. Always appreciate you coming on.
And you have to promise me this throughout the season,
when you get a minute, you'll come on the show.

Speaker 2 (08:37):
Absolutely. We love the support, We love to get out
there and we love talking to you. Ck. We appreciate it.
