What happened to summer? It was like summer yesterday and
now we're getting ready to talk about the holidays?
Speaker 3 (00:19):
It is.
Speaker 2 (00:19):
We have Stephanie McCurdy here from the Holiday Galleria Committee,
because yes, indeed it is Wichita's Holiday Galleria time once again.
Holiday Galleria is coming up October third through sixth. Stephanie,
it sure is.
Speaker 3 (00:33):
It's coming fast.
Speaker 2 (00:34):
Are you guys ready?
Speaker 3 (00:35):
We are.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
What kind of things can we expect from this year's
Holiday Galleria.
Speaker 4 (00:39):
Well, we're bringing back all of everyone's favorites. We're gonna
kick off on Thursday, October third with our premiere party night,
and that is the most favorite night for most people.
So you come out doors open at six o'clock and
for the first five hundred in the door, you.
Speaker 3 (00:53):
Get a swag bag filled with.
Speaker 4 (00:55):
All sorts of goodies and then you're gonna get the
coveted Holiday Galleria wine tumblr for the year.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
It is a big deal.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Oh home, Now, this is at Century two.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
We are we at Century two this year?
Speaker 2 (01:07):
That premiere party from six to nine pm? How do
we get into the premier party?
Speaker 3 (01:12):
Sure?
Speaker 4 (01:13):
So you can buy your tickets online already, So you
go to select a seat dot com slash Galleria and
they will get those tickets out to you. You can
pick those up at will call and you can also
order them ahead of time.
Speaker 2 (01:26):
You made it easy, we try. Really, you really made
it easy, and it's so much fun. I know that
the folks that go to Holiday Galleria every year just
rave about the fun things that happen to this event.
But for somebody who's never been, kind of lay it
out for them, what can they expect at Holiday Galleria.
Speaker 4 (01:43):
So we start off with about one hundred and twenty
national and regional merchants and then also some of our
most loved local merchants from the Witch Toohn Sedgway County area.
So they move into Century two. We kick it off
on Thursday. You come in, you shop, you can have fun.
We have a couple of bars set up throughout the event.
You can buy food for purchase unless you're coming to
(02:03):
Premiere night. Premiere Night is all you can drink, all
you can eat, just snacks for everybody so they can
enjoy the whole week. Then we have Dj Carbon who's
going to be spinning the beats on Thursday night, and
then Friday for Girls Day and night Out. Girls Day
Night Out on Friday starts at ten am and goes
till nine pm this year, so it's a full day
(02:23):
of fun. And then on Saturday you can come out
and join us. That starts at ten am. We're going
to go till five. That is going to be our
fun General Admission Day, so that is also Healthcare Hero
and Teacher and staff Appreciation Day, So if you're a
healthcare hero or teacher or a staff from one of
our schools, you get free admission to come out and
(02:43):
shop and have a good time. So then on Sunday,
our last day, October sixth, General Mission starts at ten am.
It goes in till five that day. That is also
our Military Apprecia Dation Day, so if you come out
in your military show us your ID, you get in
free for the event. Same thing on Friday and Saturday
and Sunday. It's all the shop and that you can
imagine and you can start all of your holiday Gallera
(03:06):
shopping early.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Boy, you would think that Junior League's been around for
a while. With all the activities you've got going on at.
Speaker 3 (03:12):
Holiday, you would it for just a little bit.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, what was it one hundred years? Is that the
celebrations coming up?
Speaker 4 (03:20):
It is in January of twenty twenty five. It'll be
our one hundredth anniversary of the Junior League of Wichita.
Speaker 2 (03:25):
One hundred years of doing great stuff in this community.
I mean, honestly, we.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Get the opportunity to serve this community on a really
great level, not just with our money and our financial
gifts that we give, but also with our volunteer and
our members doing great work like joining boards, being a
part of nonprofits, and then also serving their community as
the Junior League of Wichita.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
In case you just joined us, we're visiting with Stephanie McCurdy.
She is from the Holiday Galleria Committee. Well, you wear
several other hats besides that, but that's the main reason
that you're coming to is today and Stephanie is here
to tell us all about Holiday Galleria. How many years
for Holiday Galleria, Stephanie, do you know?
Speaker 4 (04:06):
So we started this event in two thousand and five,
and so we've carried on the tradition. We've only had
a couple of years during the COVID era where we
didn't have Holiday Galleria, so we were two years short.
But this is our nineteenth year in total.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Wow. So this is the big event for the year
for Junior League.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
This is our premiere fundraising event. So this is the
money that allows us to do all the great work
in the community that we get to do. So we
have grants that are available for nonprofits that also include
financial gifts as well as volunteer hours from our membership,
and then we also have other things in the community
that we get to do as a group, projects and
things like that. And so our big one coming up
(04:46):
is our one hundredth anniversary gift and that is going
to be for the playscape at Exploration Place and it
should be opening here in twenty twenty five.
Speaker 2 (04:54):
They're working on that right now as we speak.
Speaker 3 (04:56):
They are.
Speaker 4 (04:57):
I actually just drove by there on my way and
I I always have to drive really slow and gok
because I'm so excited to see all the things that
are going into the playsgate there and we're really really
humbled to be partners with them.
Speaker 2 (05:09):
Don't you just want to climb that fence and take
a look and see and I do. Wow. So that's
exciting and what a great project for you guys to
get behind.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
It's wonderful.
Speaker 4 (05:19):
It's an opportunity to us to leave a lasting gift
for the community and with the Exploration place and be
able to do things that's going to be able to
serve generations to come.
Speaker 2 (05:28):
Yeah, that's going to be around for a long time
and people are really going to enjoy it. So good
on Junior League. But you know, the topic for today,
primarily the main topic is Holiday Gallery. In case you
just joined us, we're kicking it off Thursday, October third
with the premiere party and Stephanie you say the premiere
(05:49):
party is not to be missed.
Speaker 3 (05:50):
It is not.
Speaker 4 (05:51):
That is really the b scene event for the year,
So come out and join us. It starts doors open
right at six. We have food and beverages. DJ Carbon
is going to be spinning our beats. We have all
of our merchants that'll be open already. It's about one
hundred and twenty national and regional and some of our
most loved local merchants that are going to be with
us this year, which we're incredibly honored that they're going
(06:13):
to come be with us for the weekend and have
a great time.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
All right. That is Thursday night, October third, And again, Stephanie,
how do we get tickets for the premier party?
Speaker 4 (06:22):
Yep, tickets are already on sale down at Select a
seat down at Century two. You can either do a
walk up window the day of the event, or you
can order your tickets already online, so you can go
to Select to seed dot com, slash Galleia and those
will be available for you, and you can choose any
of our events that we have throughout the weekend. We
even have a couple of exciting events that we're doing
(06:43):
this year with Paint with Tanganikas. We're going to be
painting one of the animals from Tanganika on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker 2 (06:48):
Hold on painting a live animal.
Speaker 4 (06:51):
We are, and they're going to come out and they're
going to do special pictures with everybody.
Speaker 3 (06:55):
It's going to be so fun.
Speaker 2 (06:57):
Do you know what animal we're painting.
Speaker 4 (06:59):
We don't know oh yet, but I have a feeling
it has two little feet.
Speaker 2 (07:04):
Okay, that's a great, great clue. I love it and
you're just gonna have to come out to Holiday Galeria.
Speaker 3 (07:10):
Have to come out and see and paint.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Get ready to do some painting with Tanganika. Tell me
about this wine tumblr. Is this a collectible?
Speaker 3 (07:19):
It's becoming a collectible.
Speaker 4 (07:20):
So we have something each year that we put from
the Junior League of Wichita in the bag from them,
we have a sponsor that sponsors with us every year
to put these in and these are the cutest little
silicone wine tumblers this year. So you can use your
wine tumbler on Thursday night and then if you're one
of the first five hundred in the door on Friday
for Girls Day and Night out, we'll also be available
(07:40):
for those as well.
Speaker 2 (07:41):
Can you bring them in for free refills on Friday?
Speaker 3 (07:44):
It is so if.
Speaker 4 (07:45):
You buy the twenty five dollars risk band it's called
a jingle bangle, you take that up to the bar
and they'll get you some drinks.
Speaker 2 (07:52):
Well, moly, I was just kidding about that. But you
guys have thought about everything.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
So we want everyone to come out and have a
great time, enjoy it. Start your shopping early and then
know that the proceeds from Holiday Galleria go right back
into the Wichita community.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
I got to ask you Stephanie, Are you one of
these people that gets your holiday shopping done like by
Holiday Galleria every year?
Speaker 3 (08:11):
I might be, you might be.
Speaker 4 (08:13):
I find lots of treasures every year at Holiday Galeria.
I start my shopping early and hopefully I'll finish it
by the end of the.
Speaker 3 (08:20):
Gallery of this year.
Speaker 2 (08:21):
Speaking as one who has yet to ever complete mine
on time. That's kind of a tempting idea to come
out early October, get some inspiration, get some great ideas.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
It's the first shot at all the cool items of
the season with a lot of our retailers that join
us for the weekend, and so you'll get to see
everything first before anyone else has the chance.
Speaker 3 (08:42):
To get to it.
Speaker 2 (08:42):
Okay, so you got any hot tips on anything that's
going to be a special.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
I've only seen a few of the things. So hair
tools are going to be great this year. Okay, for women,
some of the new outfits that are going to be displayed,
and we'll have animal items as well, So if you
have one of those really cute animals that you need
to jazz up their wardrobe or their collar, we've got
that for you too.
Speaker 2 (09:04):
All right, Well, looking forward to Holiday Gallery. It's going
to be fantastic, you know, when you guys put all
this work into something that happens in early October. I
mean this is you've got to be prepared for this.
I mean you must start the day after holiday galeria,
you know, to plan for the following year.
Speaker 4 (09:24):
We actually start planning for the galleria for the following
year in the middle of the show, so before some
of our merchants even leave, they are signed up to
join us the following year, and so that way we
can help them throughout the year make sure they're bringing
the right things in for their merchants.
Speaker 2 (09:38):
That's kind of thing one hundred years of experience will
bring you right. Yes, exactly, you've got one hundred years
of practice. You're smart on how to put these things together.
Speaker 4 (09:46):
We sure try so. The one thing that we really
pride ourselves in is making sure that everyone that comes
in and joins us for the week as well taken
care of, whether that be a patron that's coming out
to shop with us or one of our merchants that's
joining us for the weekend as well.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
All right, I bet it's already on on your calendar.
October third through six Thursday night of course, October third,
the premiere party and Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Lots of
great things happening at Century two. And go to Holiday
Galleria dot org if you want to learn some more
about the event. If we've gone too quickly for you.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Today, we have everything online for you to see at
Holiday Gallery.
Speaker 2 (10:21):
All right, Stephanie mccurty, it's been so cool to have
you on Wichita Weekend. I'm kind of getting that holiday
spirit already. And like I say, yesterday it was eighty
five degrees outside and now you.
Speaker 3 (10:31):

Speaker 2 (10:33):
