Speaker 1 (00:00):
Everybody. Ryan Schmells, Fox correspondent in DC, joining US now
is Congress is back to work this week. Ryan, welcome in,
Thanks for being here.

Speaker 2 (00:08):
Of course, are you jj doing pretty good?

Speaker 1 (00:10):
So what are some of the major things to look
forward to this week?

Speaker 2 (00:13):
I mean, the one Big Beautiful Bill is probably the
biggest update we've got seeing where they go, how the
spending cuts are going to work, and how the taxes
are going to work. So if they get some type
of framework together this week, that'll be I think a
step in the forward direction.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Are we feeling optimistic about this? Have there been concessions
made both sides? Or they still got a lot of
work to do.

Speaker 2 (00:34):
I think they still got a lot of work to do.
You know, it's like they're trying to find one point
five trillion in spending cuts over a ten year period.
But they're going to have to do that in a
way that's not going to lose them Republican votes. And
you know President Trump and said he doesn't want to
touch entitlements. But I think there's a consensus that it's
very hard to be able to make that kind of
dent and spending unless you're going to go one or

(00:55):
two places, and that's either going to be entitlement spending
or it's going to be military are spending.

Speaker 1 (01:00):
Well, when you talk about the bill or what deadline
are we on with this as far as government shutdown
things like that, Yeah.

Speaker 2 (01:08):
Well there's no like necessary need to pass this at
any time. Speaker Johnson wants it done before the more
and then of course you want to talk about government shutdowns.
I mean, they haven't even gotten started on the appropriations process,
which would be twelve individual spending bills that would fund
the government through the next fiscal year. They haven't passed
a single one of those bills yet, so they're they're

(01:29):
a little behind on the eight ball. And it didn't
help that, you know, they didn't get this process started
until like what late March, because that's when they passed
the last government funding bill. So if they want to
get that process started, they need to do it as
soon as possible.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Any bills coming forward they'd have anything to do with
Trump's agenda as far as maybe immigration goes or policies
it will help clean up the crime in our country.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Well, there's a couple that have been floated and have
been passed the Senate, the Senate has to bring some
of them to the floor. I know there's been a
bill that was passed, asked, was it a couple of
weeks ago that would deal with the Save Act, which
is a bill that would require proof citizenship to vote
in federal elections. That's been now across the finish line
on the House side. The Senate, you have to bring

(02:13):
it to the floor, but the only problem is I'm
not quite sure the votes are going to be there.
That's to be determined.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
Yeah, and they're all back in today getting busy. After all,
they've been on a nice break for a while. So
look forward for the updates later in the week. Ryan,
I appreciate the update this morning. Thank you very much,
