Speaker 1 (00:00):
Quint you Can't tear our picks one oh six. In
nineteen eighty nine, College Music Journal called the Gin Blossoms
the best unsigned band in the country, and the rest
is history. It's Robin Wilson on the phone.

Speaker 2 (00:10):
From the Gin Blossoms. Morning, Robin, Hey, good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
How are you.

Speaker 2 (00:14):
We're excellent. We're gonna see you guys play Belmont on Broadway.
This is part of the Belmont Racing Festival in Saratoga
coming up on Wednesday. Have you ever played a horse
race before?

Speaker 3 (00:26):
Oh, yeah, we've We've played many horse races and hotel lobbies,
auto dealership, parking lots. Yeah, we've done it all.

Speaker 2 (00:38):
Well, this is actually cool. They shut down the street
and thousands will come out to see this show. I
saw you guys on Kimmel. What were you guys doing
on Kimmel this week?

Speaker 3 (00:46):
We were playing music to promote the tour. You know,
nothing nefarious.

Speaker 1 (00:51):
No, it sounded we were just.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
Given the opportunity to get out there and promote the tour,
and we decided to do it as a mashup and
it worked out pretty good. You know, we're just getting
to know those guys in Blues Traveler. Despite the fact
that we've we were label mates, and we've met each
other several times, but this was this is going to
be the first time we've toured together, so it's coming

(01:17):
together pretty good. Actually, yeah, that's shocking tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (01:20):
I know, it's shocking to me that you've never been
paired with Blues Traveler since you guys kind of hit
and blew up at the same time.

Speaker 3 (01:27):
Exactly. You know, as I said, we've crossed paths with
them many times, but we've just never been on tour
with them. But also on the bill, we've got Spin Doctors,
and this is a band that we have toured with
more than any other band ever. So it's going to
be good to be reuniting with those guys.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
I saw the front they have of the Spin Doctor
say he lost about a decade smoking too much weed.
I think he's sober now.

Speaker 1 (01:53):
I love that guy.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
He might he might be I don't know. I'll I
guess I'll find out pretty And he's coming over to
my house on Monday. We're going to record together.

Speaker 2 (02:03):
Oh cool, so cool. That's cool.

Speaker 1 (02:05):
Robin Wilson from the Gin Blossoms. It's Quinn Canterra picks
one oh six Robins. The longevity of the Gin Blossoms.
You know, you guys been through some hard stuff and
out of the gate with the death of you know,
your lead songwriter Doug Hopkins. What do you I mean?
You must be very proud of yourself for being in

(02:25):
the same band for going on what forty five years now?

Speaker 3 (02:30):
Well, we've been at it now for thirty seven years,
almost thirty eight years. Yes, extremely excuse me, extremely proud also,
you know, kind of amazed that we've been able to
keep it going and you know, we've we've developed a

(02:51):
very strong brotherhood within the group. Nice and it feels great.
It feels great. Nobody tells you when you're twenty three
years old you know that you'll be able to, you know,
do it into your sixties. You know, no one expects that,
and it feels great. Go figure.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
It's that Robin Wilson from the Gin Glossoms. We'll see them.
We'll see them Wednesday for Belmont on Broadway. Where are
you from and how where are you from? First of all,
where'd you grow up, Robin?

Speaker 3 (03:21):
Well, I grew up in Tempe, Arizona. Along with my bandmates,
we're all from Tempe, which is a great, great place,
and it was such an awesome place to be a
kid in the seventies and eighties. But now I live
on Long Island here in New York. I live in
the shadow of JFK, just outside of Queens.

Speaker 2 (03:42):
Okay, because you're in the Long Island Music Hall of Fames,
you must have been in Long Island a while.

Speaker 3 (03:47):
Yeah, I've been here for a while. My ex wife
is from this town. It's called Valley Stream, and right
now I'm on my bike heading to the Valley Stream
State Park, gets some exercise, and it's a decent town.
You know, Long Island is very different from Arizona. It's
like a whole different country. You know, we got great

(04:09):
certain things are awesome. The neighborhoods are great, people are great,
but the infrastructure sucks. So you know, it's just part
of being a New Yorker and living this close to
the city.

Speaker 1 (04:20):
You know, Robin Will will the del Montes show up
in a surprise show at a local tavern next week.

Speaker 3 (04:28):
We might we might show up, you know, the del Montese.
So our alter ego was something we more or less retired.
It was something we only really did at this one
club in Tempe. Called Long Longs, and that's where we
always appeared as the del Montese. So I don't think
we're going to get on stage and declare it, but

(04:50):
there's always a little bit of that spirit within us,
you know.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
Well, will any of you guys actually come to the racetrack.
It's like the Fenway Park of racetracks. It's god a
ton of history, beautiful.

Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, it's pretty nice. Actually, we I'm pretty sure we
have been there before, okay, and so I'm I'm expecting
for it to be somewhat familiar. Uh uh. And I've
been around horses a little bit in my lifetime, but
I've never never raced them. But you know, I'll if

(05:23):
somebody asked me to, I'll give it a trot.

Speaker 2 (05:26):
All right. We'll set you up in the box. Jim Blossoms,
Bellman on Broadway, Robin Wilson can't wait to see you man.

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Thanks for the time, Thank you, thank you very much,
looking forward you guys.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Have a good day, you too.

Speaker 1 (05:37):
