Speaker 1 (00:03):
And now.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
From the New York Giants broadcast team, It's John Smelk.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Good morning, gentlemen.

Speaker 1 (00:13):
Johnny so exciting.

Speaker 2 (00:15):
What time did the draft rap What time did the
draft wrap up last night?

Speaker 3 (00:20):
I probably walked out of the building around like one.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Well, thank you for getting up for us this morning.
We appreciate it.

Speaker 4 (00:27):
No words that guys. By the way, you did not
wake me up by a two year old and a
seven year old. They they did that for you.

Speaker 2 (00:33):
Well, I mean, I think it was an exciting night
for the Giants. First of all, they double dip, they
go back, they get Jackson Dark let's talk about it.
But what about the schefter report that the Giants had
a package to move up to number one.

Speaker 3 (00:46):
I mean, I'm not surprised by that.

Speaker 4 (00:47):
I think, you know, we talked about it when we
were at the combine a lot on our on our
programming that the Giants were looking for a quarterback and
you know, cam Ward was the guy. He was the
best quarterback in this class and it wasn't particularly close.
So the fact that the Giants had tried to move
up to one throughout this process is not a surprise
to me at all. I mean, I think they had
never said it publicly, but I think I don't think

(01:09):
they were hiding from it either, and the Titans.

Speaker 3 (01:11):
Decide they wanted to make the pick.

Speaker 4 (01:12):
So the Giants were kind of in a tough spot
the way they were last year when they tried to
trade off for one of those good quarterbacks and they
just couldn't find a dance partner.

Speaker 2 (01:19):
So the Jackson Dart trading back into the first round
that was planned b probably right, Yeah, I.

Speaker 4 (01:25):
Mean, I think they wanted to get a quarterback, and
they were worried about waiting until pick thirty four with
the Browns picking it picked thirty three, and then you
know the Rams. In theory, the team that traded out
after the Giants selected Dart, they could have picked the quarterback.
There in theory, the Browns could still pick one of
thirty three. Another team could have traded.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
Back into the first round. Quarterback. Well, I think they.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
I think they think that Jackson Darts a better quarterback
for them heading into this process.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
And I think I said this to you guys yesterday.

Speaker 4 (01:54):
You know, I think the league was probably fifty to
fifty on who the second best quarterback in this draft was.
Half the league thought we should wear standers. The other
half thought it was Jackson Dart, and I think there
were some people, by the way that thought it was
Tyler Shook, the quarterback out of Louisville. So I think
it depends on the team you spoke to. And I
guess the Giants came down on that that that they
would prefer.

Speaker 2 (02:13):
To have dark and then no surprise at the defensive
end from Penn State, Abdul Carter, you called, but everyone
called that you were Giants fans are happy with that,
I assume.

Speaker 4 (02:23):
Yeah, I think so, And I think Giant fans are
the most part are happy they figured out a way
to get a quarterback. I think some people, you know,
you know, maybe maybe prefer a different quarterback.

Speaker 3 (02:31):
But yeah, I mean, I think you have to be
happy with Abdul Carter.

Speaker 4 (02:34):
The guy is the best pass rusher in the draft.
He's your traditional top of the draft edge rusher who's
just a really, really good player that's gonna help this
team win a lot of football games.

Speaker 3 (02:42):
So that made sense.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
I can't imagine any Giant fans are are upset about that.

Speaker 5 (02:47):
And you know, Abdull Carter is in person, but he's
got something. Man he's gonna he's gonna be he's gonna
scare some people.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
Like, yeah, he's a Philly guy. He's very seriou is
in locked in. He's got a serious edge to him
with the way he plays, which I think is what
you want out of a you know, edge player. And
look he's he's a really really good player. And I
think it's it's it's it's as simple as that.

Speaker 1 (03:12):
Is that his nicknames, they call him the edge.

Speaker 4 (03:16):
Oh no, no, no, I I just say he's an
edge player because no, no, no, he in Uh. In
the bowl game of the playoff game, he wore it's
not a nickname, but he wore EyeBlack that I think
said Darth Vader on it because he had to rehab
a lot of shoulder injury and he was in kind
of one of those like Darth Vader like healing tubes.

Speaker 3 (03:36):
So I think he has some you know, some like
that zones.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
How far can Sanders slide?

Speaker 3 (03:45):
That's good question.

Speaker 4 (03:46):
I mean I think the Browns he might not saw
it at all. The Browns could theoretically pick him at
thirty three. Uh, the Saints could pick him in this
round though I understood my my I've heard throughout the
process that they.

Speaker 3 (03:56):
Like Tyler Shook.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
You could have the Jets take him. You could have
I mean the Raiders. You know they have Geno Smith there,
but you know he's only he's over thirty four. He
to signed a shorter term contract extension, so you could
always picture work and put him in in Vegas as
a long term quarterback. I mentioned the Saints.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Uh, and then I guess.

Speaker 4 (04:16):
The Steelers always trade back into the round.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
To take him if they want to do that. So
there are options here.

Speaker 4 (04:21):
But I mean, could he have a little bit of
a weight, So yeah, I think it's possible.

Speaker 5 (04:25):
What's that guy? Travis Hunter?

Speaker 2 (04:26):
Can't Travis Hunter? Well that I had that question. So
Cleveland what they Jacksonville gives up two first right and
a second round for the.

Speaker 4 (04:35):
Second round there. Yeah, that was a very very steep price.
I don't think Cleveland wanted to trade the pick, so
I think to get him to do it, Jacksonville had
to give them a lot like that is a full
quarterback tax to move from five to two to go
up and get Travis on theme.

Speaker 1 (04:51):
It was.

Speaker 5 (04:52):
It was a lot I saw, yeah, and I couldn't
stop picturing as he's so happy and running through the
tunnel and and in dancing and doing his whatever dance
And what if something happened to him, the tragedy in
the back of my head, that's his game, man.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Yeah, and he is. He is such a good athlete.
I don't think a little dance is gonna hurt him.
I think. And by the way, just just just so
you guys are aware, that guy loves football clearly, Like
I've been told, he cares about three things, basically religious,
catching touchdowns, catching interceptions, and fishing. He doesn't party. He

(05:37):
doesn't party, he doesn't drink, he doesn't do any of
that stuff. He is apparently like an a plus plus
plus plus human being and just then unbelievable kid trap.

Speaker 5 (05:47):
Mom seems like a pistol too.

Speaker 3 (05:48):
By the way, he.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Called him the best player in the best player by
far in the draft. So rounds two and three tonight,
seven o'clock, the Giants are on the clock.

Speaker 4 (05:57):
Win tonight, John h Yeah, the Giants because of the trade,
and then in order to move up they ate the trade.
They basically swap picked twenty five for thirty four with
the Texans, so the Giants don't have their second round
pick because of that swap, and to make that swap
the Giant that they give him pick ninety nine, which
is tonight, and then a third round pick next year.
So basically they will only pick once tonight and that

(06:20):
is it, pick sixty five.

Speaker 1 (06:21):
I have dinner at five thirty standing.

Speaker 4 (06:24):
You'll be fine, good, yeah, yeah, I will'd say pick
pick sixty five is the first pick of round three.
If the draft starts at seven figure, that'll probably be
around like a thirty nine o'clock.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
Or something like that. There's a lot of guys out
there doing maths tonight.

Speaker 4 (06:38):
That's great.

Speaker 5 (06:40):
I love it.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
John Schwell, the Giants broadcast team will check. We'll do
one more time on Monday morning for a final recap.

Speaker 1 (06:45):
Thanks Bdaks, Johnny.

Speaker 3 (06:47):
Absolutely, guys,
