Speaker 1 (00:00):
Star Family, we want to talk a little bit about
my absence my kidney transplants. But we can't do all
that without a guest on the show. I mean, we've
got to bring Lisa in. Lisa is the hero of
all heroes that that gave me my brand new kidney.
(00:20):
Welcome to the broadcast, Lisa. How are you doing this morning?
Doing good? Very good.
Speaker 2 (00:26):
I'm glad to hear you back.
Speaker 1 (00:28):
Man. It feels so good, Lisa. It feels so good
to be doing something again.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (00:35):
So Lisa and I, if you're Star Family, if you're
not caught up, Lisa and I have known each other
for over twenty years and we've been friends for a
very long time. Lisa thought she was a different blood
type than I was, and she's been was so very
supportive through my entire process of being on dialysis. And
(00:56):
then Lisa found out quite by accident. Yeah, we were
a blood type. We were the same blood type. And
and Lisa, I mean from what you immediately went and
got tested as soon as you found that out.
Speaker 2 (01:13):
Yeah. Yeah, I was laying a bed. I think it
was like at nine o'clock at night, and I was
looking through my I had unexpected surgery in March, but
it was a couples a couple months later looking at
my paperwork for some reason, and I just saw that
I was positive and immediately text I immediately text you
(01:34):
and said, what do I need to do to see
if by chance I'm a match? And it just happened
by accident.
Speaker 1 (01:42):
And then it happened fast. It really did, did not.
It was so fast. It was unrelatedly looking back, of course,
there was a lot of anticipations in the last few
days seemed like they went forever. But in all and all,
I mean, it was fast.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Way faster than I thought.
Speaker 1 (01:56):
Yeah, Lisa, when did you make that all?
Speaker 2 (01:58):
Josh?
Speaker 1 (01:59):
When when was the timeline on that?
Speaker 2 (02:01):
When did you make that call to Josh? Well, as
soon as I saw it, I mean, as soon as
I realized I was so positive, I text Josh and said, hey,
guess what I mean? For really, I think it was
like nine o'clock.
Speaker 1 (02:15):
At night when it was. It was after the hurricanes,
so it was sometime early early to mid November, I believe.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
Oh, I didn't realize it was that fast. That's what
I was curious about. How fast and how long did
it take? And wow, you guys were in the operating
room within a few weeks.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Yeah. Well, they told me that a lot of it
was based on the donor because of their schedule. Not
everybody had the luxury of just being able to go anytime.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
Yeah, you know, I could go.
Speaker 2 (02:44):
Anytime because I wasn't working at it held off until
after the surgery or once I foid it, once I
found out if I was able to do it or not.
So once I did something and it was a go
to a well wait we can do this, We'll do
it whenever.
Speaker 1 (03:03):
You can do it.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
I'm like, I can do it tomorrow. So we had
the luxury of the freedom of my schedule because they
said usually that holds it up quite a bit.
Speaker 1 (03:16):
When it comes to kidney transplants, it's all about the match.
It's there's a lot that needs to match beyond just
just the blood type. There's things called antibodies, and then
they do all these I mean, Lisa's been Lisa's had
the most thorough examining of anybody. They put you through
everything before they allow you to give a kidney, and
(03:36):
through the doctors literally said the kidney of a twenty
year old, how about I love it? And I I
was blessed that Lisa wanted to give me a kidney.
I was blessed that Lisa did give me a kidney,
(03:58):
and I was triple blessed because I got an absolutely
amazing kidney. It is doing absolutely marvelous. Every single test result,
everything they measure is just through the roof perfect. And
it has been had a little bit of issues with
my blood pressure that has nothing to do with the kidney,
that was getting medicine rates. That's all fixed up right now.
(04:22):
Everything's been perfect since day one. Incredible, And you know that.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
It's still hard for me to wrap my head around
it that it because it happened so fast and went
so I guess smoothly. I mean, we just didn't have
hiccups and it just it just it's amazing, and I
know what It's had such an impact on you and
(04:47):
your family of course, but it hasn't had an unexpected
impact as well. It's been the whole experience has been crazy.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Now, we had the done at Prisma down in Greenville,
South Carolina, and first off, I want to shout out
to the entire team down there, that transplant team. They're
they're unbelie beautiful people. Inside and outs. I trust them
with my body one thousand percent. They've done nothing but
great work the entire time. And they, oh my gosh,
(05:20):
do they love Lisa.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
They took such good care of me. I mean I
still get phone calls. Kensley still checks in on me,
you know, and it's yeah, they're amazing. Every single person
that came in contact with was amazing.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
Now, at List, I want you to be honest with
the Star family and tell them what, in a few words,
what your experience was, and be honest, like, was there
a lot of pain? Was and was there any at
any point did you think, oh what am I doing here?
And what donors standpoint? What was it like?
Speaker 2 (05:55):
I don't know why, but I never never hesitated. I
mean I just didn't. There was never a time I went, oo,
do I want to do this? Or the biggest thing
I dreaded out of all of it was telling my dad.
But it has changed my dad's life. He texted me
yesterday at noon saying, oh, big day for Josh. He
(06:16):
loved Josh. And then when they scored seven. You know,
it's but I never never have hesitated. For some reason,
I just felt like if I could do it, there
was why wouldn't I do it? The pain very very minimal.
(06:37):
I had, Like I said, I had a surgery in March.
It was a complete hysterectomy, quite a bit more than
the pain, and recovery was much worse for that. Believe
it or not. Yeah, I mean it it was crazy.
It's it's.
Speaker 1 (06:57):
Hearing like within a I saw you, I like, is
a saperhero My gosh, that's really Yeah, you went out
to Silverado's and yeah, it was volunteering for the hurricane
really though superhero right, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:11):
It was two weeks to the day that I did it.
Speaker 1 (07:16):
Just I mean, I won't say.
Speaker 2 (07:18):
There was no soreness, no, I mean it was just
what was people would expect on a regular surgery. It
was nothing extreme. But I will say to the people
that are listening that have never considered donating, do it,
because I'm not kidding it. It just changes in a
(07:40):
weird way. It's just changed me, my life, my family's life.
I mean outside of yours, Josh. I mean, I know
your family's changed, but it's my dad, who was the
one person that was a little hesitant about me doing it.
Didn't take too long to get on board. But yeah,
your little true he's a true believer. Anything he sees
(08:05):
now it's kidney related. He records and says, hey, come
down and watch this with me, you know, and he
just he just yeah. He talks about Josh all the time,
and yeah.
Speaker 1 (08:17):
It's one of the awesome parts. As if having someone
else's kidney inside you working amazingly isn't magical enough. It's
also it's been like the melding of the two families.
Speaker 2 (08:26):
We because exactly your mom. Oh my gosh, it's changed
my life. I love your brother.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
It's crazy. Well, we got one more thing we got
to discuss. We've decided that we need to name the kidney. Okay,
spot I started. We started out with Bob just as
a very generic name at the beginning of the show,
but then Ariel suggested it needed to be an Eagles player.
And I mean, I, I what do you think about
(08:57):
Nicky for for for Nick Foles, the great the greatest
QB in history that gave us a Super Bowl. Would
would you mind your your your kiddy being named Nikki?
Speaker 2 (09:04):
I would not mind that at all. I think that's
a great idea.
Speaker 1 (09:09):
I love it. I love it, Lisa, I love you
and thank you so much for the kidney, thank you
for the friendship and the love and and and thank
you for calling in today. We love you so very Hey,
I do it.
Speaker 2 (09:22):
I'd do it one hundred times over. I mean I'd
do it over and over.
Speaker 1 (09:26):
Awesome.
Speaker 2 (09:27):
And then again, I strongly suggest anybody listening if you
ever considered it, even if you don't know somebody, the
impact it has, it's just it's it's life changing. Amen
for everybody.
Speaker 1 (09:40):
Amen. Yeah, Lisa, We love you. Thank you so much,
and I hope you have a lovely day. Ladies and gentlemen.
