and this game will secure their spotin the seven eight playoffs, making it
a high stakes match for both ofthese teams tonight. Last year, Dothan
High in a flag ridden fourteen toseven final, came away with that win

in the playoff first but over likea high school determined to turn the tables
this time around tonight and try toavoid their first losing seasons. It's nineteen
ninety five and they add the excitementhere at Bulldog Stadium tonight. It's also
homecoming tonight in the final regular seasonmatchup for the Bulldogs here in twenty twenty
three. We said way back inWeek one the Dogs didn't want any extra
time for trick or trading this year, so it's time to punch set ticket

man. I didn't much like thattrip we took last week, and hopefully

today is my granddaughter's birthday and she'sa senior cheerleader. So we got a

Coach, is hard to believe herewe are already. It just seems like
just a few days ago we weresitting here business before the Thompson game,
and here we are the final regularseason game, and I know excited for

the kids to get out here andplay in front of a big, packed
house here tonight. It has beena really fast season. I'll say that
is what happens when you got agreat bunch of kids that are fun to
be around, and you know,this season's really flown by. And here
we are, you know, likeyou said, the last home game,
regular season home game, and youknow we playoff implications on the line,

So it's gonna be a big gametonight. Hopefully the crowd will be here
and be really loud for us.Yeah, very similar situation like you were
in last season. Got to winagainst this doping team, you had to
go on the road and play themlast year. You get them here in
front of a packed house here atBulldog Stadium tonight. It is homecoming.
Just talk about the advantage of playingat home. You've been very good here
inside Bulldog Stadium this year. Yeah, this year and then in the past.

You know, it's just it's completelydifferent. It's hard to go on
the road in seven A and winagainst the teams that you have to play.
And then you know, in caselast year, we had some some
other issues during the game that youknow, we're beyond our control. And
I think everybody knows what we're talkingcome back on that, but uh,
you know, it's gonna be niceto be back home tonight. It is
homecoming. We had to wait laterin the year. We just went with
only having four games. We hadto pick and choose. We couldn't do

it earlier in the year with theleague game, and so we you know,
and obviously you're not going to pickAuburn, So we had to move
it back to this week. Sohopefully people will come back and be really
happy tonight after the game. Andyou played on Thursday night last week.
I know it was a tough loss. At Enterprise. They were able to
really move the move the football onthe ground and and you had trouble stopping
the run. But then also onmy offense had trouble kind of getting the

run game going. Yeah, wedid. It was uh, you know,
and that's been you know, thetimes that we haven't played great.
That's been the recipe for disaster,I guess is the best way to put
it. The Theodore game. Andthen last week we we didn't do a
great job of stopping the run,and then we couldn't get our run game
going. And when we're playing ourbest, that's what what we do.

Is stop the run. And youknow, Ben put his big kid last
week at quarterback and then they've gota big tail back to so we struggled
on that end, and then uhyou know, just couldn't get anything going
offensively with our run game versus theirtheir defensive line. So uh, that's
what we worked on this week.We've actually had probably our best two days
of practice this week as far asMondays and Tuesdays go. So the kids

are excited about tonight, and uhso are the coaches. I know,
the health of your team. Uhyou know, you lost your big tailback
in Calvin Hugley for a little bit, and how is everybody else health wise
across the board? Yeah, we'rewe're you know, got a few guys
banged up, but uh, youknow that's that's just how it is this
time of year. You're gonna havesome injuries. And uh, you know,
with the schedule that we play andthe teams that are in this this

region, Uh, it's a physicalgame every Friday night or Thursday last you
know, as far as last weekgoes. But uh, you know,
we've got basically everybody that we relyon is healthy tonight, so it should
be a good night for us.One part of your team that's been really
good here at home, that's thepassing game Roman and getting his receivers open
downfield. I know that would bekey tonight if they can get rolling.

Yeah, we've got to be ableto throw the ball, uh, you
know, as well is run it. You know, the games that we've
played really well, we've been ableto take some deep shots and hit them
and it kind of loosens up thedefense a little bit and it helps our
run game. You know, ouroffensive line is not the biggest uh,
you know, and they get inthere and fight and scratch and claw for
every yard, but you know,we're just not big enough to knock people

off the ball. So we haveto really loosen up the linebackers and safeties
and make sure they're not adding extrapeople down end of the run game.
And we do that by being ableto throw the ball. And you know
we're gonna have to do that tonightif we're gonna win. As head coach

to believe. Dothan Wolves come intonight, win or go home for the
openaka Bulldogs tonight. Coach, youknow, that's pretty much all you got
to tell your guys. And Ithink after we visited last week after the
Enterprise game, you said, ourplayoffs really start tonight night. When you're
in and come up with a lossin your season's over. Yeah, we

used the example last week. Enterprisewas in the exact same situation last week.
Uh, they had to had tobeat us to make sure that they
stayed in. Uh, and they'reactually probably gonna end up as the two
seed by staying in the playoffs.Had we been able to pull off that
win last week, the Enterprise wouldhave been out of the playoffs. So
we've got to take the same approachthat Enterprise did last week, and uh,

the same intensity, same focus tonightand basically, you know, for
doth then it's the same way.Uh. You know, whoever wins this
game is going to be in theplayoffs, and whoever loses the game is
gonna be out. So basically,this is a playoff game. You know,
it's the last game of the season. So we told the kids,
uh, you know last Friday whenthey were here a meeting with us since
it was a Thursday game, thatyou know, the playoffs start next Monday.

That so we've treated this week justlike we would a playoff week.
And and uh, like I saidearlier, we had two really good days
of practice. Uh and Wednesday wasyou know, our walkthroughs and uh,
you know, so should be agood night and uh, we're excited about
playing. Coach Darlington the offensive coordinatorfor Dothan, same one you had had
to prepare for last year. Hewas an Enterprise for a number of years

as their head coach. It's avery run heavy offense that you've got to
really be disciplined on defense. Andwhen you're trying to defend this, you
can't get out of position or orthey can make you pay. Yeah,
it's a completely different offense. Andyou you know, the fans that come
tonight, if they didn't watch usplay Dothan last year on TV or go
down there and watch it's it's asingle wing offense, a lot of misdirection

you know, quarterbacks sometimes will spinaround and hand it to one of any
three guys. And uh so thisweek we've we've done a lot of things,
you know, you really you know, it's kind of strange, but
you actually practice without a football,so everybody's going where they're supposed to be
going, nobody has the ball.Because in order to defend this, you
have to, you know, playexactly who you're supposed to play and not

get caught looking in the backfield tryingto find the football. It's very similar
to what teams do when you playthe old Georgia Tech or Avy, uh,
those types of option teams. Andthen this one has the quarterback that
I actually will spend completely around andhand it off. So uh, it's
a big week for the defense,uh to make sure that their eyes are

in the right spot. And thenwe've also got to do a great job
of tackling. We didn't we didn'ttackle very well last week, you know,
especially on their big running back.And uh, this week we're going
to have to really make sure thatour eyes were they're supposed to be and
we tackle the ball. Career allright, I know you've been a football
coach this week where you're going tobe a dad also tonight, Sarah Kate
on the homecoming court tonight. Soyou're gonna go run and put your town
and your code are going to stayin your coaching gear. Well, actually,

uh we you know we I gotto do it last year and it's
you know, a cool moment asa dad and uh, you know,
excited for her. But I'm goingto do the pregame and then uh,
she even told me, she said, look, you've got a job to
do. So Bryce is going tocome back. He's coming home this weekend,
so he's actually going to do thehalftime. So uh, you know
last year he was playing and couldn'tdo it. So this year she just

told me, hey, you needto be in there with your And that
says a lot about her and justhow she understands as a coach's kid what
goes on. And so I'll getto do the pre game and then Bryce
will do it for it at halftimeand but cool moment for her, all

that that is just about all thatthey do, they're passing game is not

very good. They they don't theydon't throw very very often, maybe eight
times eight nine times a game.But they run the football and their quarterback
is the key and he does everything. You people that are old enough to
remember single wing full of football orthe no Notre Dame box uh that used

to be running college and high school. Uh it. You have to be
a discipline defense to stop this thing. So uh I know, Eric and
have worked all week on stopping therun. That's what we're gonna have to
do. And and if we getthem in a third down situation, which
we should. Uh, we gotto stop the third down conversions. Uh.

I think you know if you goback and look at the Enterprise game
last week too, we didn't showup offensively when was scoring off points.
We didn't run the ball well,we didn't throw the ball well. It
was in their kicking game wasn't verygood. It was not a good night

defensive end coach. One thing thatreally stood out to me when I was
looking at these guys across the board, especially on defense. They're not extremely
big upfront on defense, two hundredand fifteen pounds seniors starting at defensive tackle,
but they do have Xavian Navara whois a huge defensive tackle five to

eleven, three oh five coach.He's a freshman over there on that defensive
line outside though the linebackers two ten, one eighty five to twenty seven Aaron
Scott linebacker. He's a big playmakerback there for him at two twenty seven,
one sixty five, one seventy.They're not going to overpower you,
but they can move around. They'requick guys up there that can you know,

get get through a block pretty quick. And that's one thing that's made
them successful. It seems like atleast on film, well you you know,
that big guy has gotten to drawdouble teams, so that's probably the
reason they've got him in there andwhat they can't move in. But ud
Dophan's always had really really good athletesall the way back to when we played
them in high school and I canremember a lot of great Dothan teams,

and now you come and bind Northviewand Dothan, and you've got the best
at the leagues. Send doth thatat one school. So that's one of
the reasons they're in the spot.They are competing for a playoff spot tonight.

we never got going there. Iknow, we started back on our one
or yeah, our one yard lineon that one and just never really recovered
offensively until we got it going,you know, early in the fourth,

late the third and opened up.But you know, UH made it,
you know, I made a touchdown, got the on side kick, got
a lot of momentum back fans.Fans always evolved, and it just it
just didn't go around. We knewwe had to have that second on side

But they fought all the way.They didn't quit, they didn't give up.

to stop the run. And theclock goes by so fast, guys,
and that's just a it's hard tocome back on a team that's got a

makes things very frustrating as a fanand as a player and as a coach
because you can't do anything to stopthat clock because you only have three timeouts
