boys basketball team, Vans Downs.First off, Coach, thank you so
much for joining us. Thanks forhaving me, Justin. I started my
interview with Cole Cook, the girlshead coach, same as I'm going to

start with you, aims on toughtwo game losing streak. How much of
that is because of the hectic fourgames and six days scheduling. You know,
it's hard to tell. I didn't. I really didn't think it effected
as Friday. I thought our kidsplayed extremely hard Friday night. Saturday.
You kind of see the effects ofit. But I do think it's something

you had to go through. Maybenot four in a week, but you
know, if you want to getto a championship, you get played three
in a week. So the backto backs are something we've got to do
a better job with. But Ithought we had tremendous effort Friday night.
I'm really proud of the kids,and I thought we had good efforts Saturday,
but we were just not able tokeep our focus. We couldn't sustain

our focus, and that created problemsfor us. That's a really good point,
coach, because you bring up howto win a state title you need
to string together consecutive wins in consecutivedays. So is this almost like a
blessing in disguise? Well, that'sa great that's a good question. I

guess I'll tell you down the road. I don't have a crystal ball,
but I do know you have todo some of this. You have to
have some back to backs so thatyou can prepare for it. And usually
the the you know, at leastin the state tournament, the first back
to back is the toughest, andthen the third day you're just playing on
a dregaline anyway, but you haveto do this to go through it,

have some experience with it. Andwe're relatively young even, you know,
even our one senior starter is,you know, chronologically is a very young
man. So you know, wejust got to go through this. How
have the players adjusted, I assumebecause just watching them on the court,
they're a well connected group. Theyalways look like they're having fun, have

practices taken a hit at all,or is this team still jeered and ready
to go despite you know, Imean, tonight you'll finish a game and
then you'll have one day rest backat it on Thursday. Well, practices
have taken a hit, but moreby design, not by you know that
anything the kids have done. Wejust, you know, it's impossible to

ask for the kids to have normalpractices in between these games. So we've
just scaled back to really about gosh, if we run the four sixty minutes
ninety minutes tops is really all wecan ask and they aren't terribly intense,
just be because you can't play fourin a week and do that. So

it's been more by design, certainly, not by any lack of from the
lack of effort for the players.So in that, in that regard,
I think the kids have done anice job. Someone who's been playing really
well in the past two games wasIsaiah Knight, someone who doesn't get a

whole lot of starting time, butit comes off the bench with some key
minutes. I had thirty one pointsin the last two games. What has
made him so successful? Well,I mean, Zay first of all,
is a good player. It's justtaking some time to develop. And you
know, it's kind of a goodlesson for all of us. It happens

in time if you keep working.And you know it's certainly going well for
Isaiah right now, and you knowwe need him to continue to get better.
Your opponent tonight coaches the des MoinesHoover Huskies. What have you seen
from them so far? Well,I think you're getting better every day.
I think West does a great jobwith them. They're young, you know,

they're kind of playing with house money. They have nothing to lose,
you know, a unique piece totheir game right now, as they'll sit
in the two three zone and waitout and if you're if you gamble too
much or if you take bad shots, they'll certainly take advantage of that.

So you know, what we're lookingfor is making sure that we give the
best effort possible with great focus.We gave good effort Saturday, not great
focus. We need to come backtoday and put both of those together.
One of the key players for Hooveris war He's a team high in average
per points with twelve a game.How do you plan to slow him down?

(07:20):
Because Hoover they're a tough team allthe points you just mentioned are all
true, but they also don't havegreat depth. So how do you plan
to take advantage of that? Well, you know, we haven't made a
final decision on who the matchup isgoing to be at this point in time,
but we have talked about his gameand collectively trying to slow him down

a little bit, not give himsecond opportunities, find him in transition,
load the floor when he's there,and you know, not put too much
pressure on one defender. And youknow he's got a game that's really hard
to deal with. You can doa little bit of everything. But I
think collectively, if we're focused gyis and we don't have the second opportunities,

I think we're okay. That wasvance Down's the boys varsity head coach

sprained ankle. For the boys,won their starters. Jamison Poe has not
played since January twenty third against Aone Lincoln. He is in street closed
here tonight, so more than likelywe'll see Isaiah and Knight come in in
his position and start. Like wetalked with coach Vans Downs at the coaches
interview, He's had thirty one pointscombined in the last two games. He's

really filled that starter role easily andwell since Jamison Poe has been out.
Let's see if he can do ittonight. I think he'll have a really
good opportunity to do it tonight.Stames little side clones. Like we said,
despite dropping two straight games, they'restill in control of the Iowa Alliance
Conference with a five to zero undefeatedconference record eight and five overall only lost

by three against Cedar Falls, butdid struggle against Norwalk, which a lot
of teams have normalk only one losson the season sixty two to forty one.
But Ames has won four straight againstHoover since twenty twenty in our three
and one when coming off of aloss, So a lot of opportunities have
presented themselves year tonight, and itwill come down to the turnovers games.

A really good defensive team, Hoovera team that struggles greatly with turning the
ball over twenty turnovers a game forthe Huskies, so if games can get
out and run, that'll be huge. Sports role players also out onto the
court. Huskies not a great indepth team. The really World War number

twenty one, the sophomore leaves theteam endpoints the second and assist in rebounds,
so he's the main guy to watchout for. And then finally hit
threes. Put pressure on the Huskiesbecause poor three point shooting has hit this
Hoover team hard. Only one threepointer since January nineteenth, that is not
that is four games for the Huskiesthat they have gone with only one three

pointer. Combined, Ames thirteen threepointers in just three games, so they're
trying to feed it up from beyondthe yard. Now let's go into a
little deeper dive for the Huskies.They've lost ten in a row after losing
to Dowling eighty five to thirteen,have only, like we said, made
one three pointers since January nineteenth.The last two games the teams have outscored

them ninety to thirty one, andI think that's due to a huge part
in the depth issue for the Huskies. Like we said, turnovers will be
huge and also kind of the wearand tear on both teams. That's something
we need to mention. Ames,playing their fourth game in six days,
will have a day off tomorrow,then come back home to face De Moine

North on Thursday night. And thenfor the Huskies, this is now their
second straight day of having to playa basketball game, so not a lot
