I mean he's been really encouraging.Uh. Jay has made great strides,
continues to make great strides, andyou know a piece of that is uh,

you know, we see the pointproduction. But he can really really
guard. He's you know, he'she's a longer six one. Uh,
he's very athletic. Uh, he'sgot a feel, he can rebound the
ball. Uh, he can guardsmaller guards, he can guard some smaller
bigs. Really versatile. You know, he just he just keeps showing him

that he can do more things allthe time. You guys have won four
of your last five. Now,what do you attribute the most to the
recent success? You know, that'sthat's that's hard to say because every game
is kind of a new challenge initself. You know, I just think

the kids when the kids are lockedin uh and play as hard as they
can. You have just a muchbetter chance of having success if if that
weren't the case. And I thinkthey've been able to keep their focus.
I think they've been able to keeptheir effort and that has certainly helped a
great deal. You're taking on Johnstonon the road. What do road environments

how they're always tough throughout the regularseason, but man, you bring in
the postseason and they just they justcrank it up a different level. Yeah,
that's true. I guess, youknow, having been to almost all
of them, I guess that's whatI'm saying. I'm old every place is
a little bit different, and Johnson'sa unique place. We'll really have to

see what it's what it's like whenwe get there. But I think kids
have been in some very difficult environmentsthroughout the season and are prepared for that.
And I don't I don't think themoment, as far as the crowd
is gonna be what it's about.I think it's going to be about our
effort, our focus, and juststaying together. You bring up focus has

kind of been the point of emphasisthroughout practice this week, just playing our
strengths. You know being us,and you know, you get into playoffs,
you want to continue to improve,that's number one. But then you
want to be you. You knowyou are going to change your identity here
in the last week of the season, heading into the state tournament or anything
like that. You just got tobeat you and be the best version of

you you can be. He playsas close to you as soon as you
possibly can, and usually you havea chance to win most games. Rebounding
was kind of an issue towards theend of the game or just throughout the
game against Mason City. How doyou plan to attack the glass with more
efficiency against the Dragons. Well,it has been a we call it a

KPI key performance syndicator. It hasbeen ours. We knew it was going
to be a concern way back inJune, Like we knew it was a
concern back and you know, assoon as those kids graduated last March,
as Frank and La walked out thedoor. Uh, and we we just
continue to try to emphasize a highpercentage of blockouts. If we can put

bodies on people, it increases ourour chances of getting getting defensive rebounds.
And we've just we've got to dobetter than that. That was the first
thing in film that we addressed thenext day after the Basis City game.
We've worked on it, but youwant to get terribly physical this time of
year just because you want it.You want to be safe. Uh you

know, we've been uh bitten bya few injuries, so we want to
be safe. And uh so youjust continue to emphasize it, look at
it and film practice technique, anduh, we'll see where it Texas tonight,
has anyone on the squad with itbecoming postseason play kind of stepped up
maybe their leadership either vocally or justbuy what they do on the court more

or I don't want to say more, but just has anyone kind of cranked
it up a different notch that haskind of made the rest of the team
look around and go, Okay,here we go, let's put in the
work. I can't say that anyindividual has been exceptional, but I think
the big three have really done anice job. You know, when you
talk to JMO and Jack and A, I think they've really done a nice

job of continuing to work, keepus headed in the right direction and being
really supportive of other guys because sometimesyounger guys. This can be a frustrating
time to year, just because there'sso many emotions involved. There's these things
are a little more intense or intensethan maybe at other times. And I

think those big three have done avery good job. What can you tell
us about Johnstone? What do youexpect out of the Dragons? Exceptional team,
well coached, very disciplined, terrificpoint guard. I really liked the
big in Houston. Number five isa terrific shooter as well. I think

he's the second leading score. He'sa handful because he's got a drive game,
an inside game. But uh andobviously against you shoot games forty plus
percent from behind the arc, andthen Bauer is forty four percent from the
arc, So you know, it'sit's a handful. I mean, Cavil,
it's all. It starts with Cavil. He's he's a tremendous point guard.

He's showing he's a four year starterin the Great Basketball But then the
supporting cast is very talented. Andthen they've had a few injuries, you
know, so we don't quite knowwho's who's the next guy coming off the
bench. They can they can sepeven more size if they would like,
and then they have some really talentedcards they can move into the lineup.

They can They are really kind ofyou know, I say, dual threats.
They can drive you, they canthey can shoot really welcome to three.
So I just think they're an outstandingteam. I think they maybe didn't
put it all together early, justkind of feeling each other out from a
chemistry stamp. I think you're playingreally good basketball in there, and we're

match and that is where Ames ofcourse won that one. But it has

not been easy sledding against the Dragons. Johnson has won seven of the last
nine matchups. Ames has not wonback to back games against the Dragons since
twenty thirteen and then again in twentyfifteen, have not actually won in the
Johnston High School since two thy andten. Ames of course took down Mason

City in the first round seventy oneto thirty five to improve to a seventeen
and six overall record and now moveforward into the second round where they will
be the visiting little Cyclones against theDragons, who last Thursday in their season
finale, lost nineteen points against theAnchony Centennial Jaguars fifty nine to forty to

fall to twelve and nine on theseason, but still a strong season at
a first year head coach court Andwho came from Hoover. But man,
these two teams, we were wrappingthe stats and looking at him at the
pregame could not match up any better. Both our defensive minded teams who liked
to dig into that shot talk.But points scored per game Ames fifty seven

fifty six for Johnston points allowed.That's the big one. Ames forty one
points allowed per game, Johnston fiftyone. So if the Dragons want to
come out on top, then hemake this a fifty plus point effort out

three fouls early he had to setfor a while. Three fouls on Jack
Winner and they had two on nine, two on Boss two on Dow five

Richardson on the season only averaging ten. He came off of a three

difficult for him as he only hadfive points, but goes on seven straight
