Of I Tell You Nichols.
Speaker 1 (00:05):
Well, good morning, Joe walking to Minnesota.
Speaker 3 (00:07):
Hey, what's up up guy?
Speaker 1 (00:09):
Are you here already?
Speaker 2 (00:10):
I am Man. I just pulled in this morning, and uh,
what a beautiful day.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Nice? What are you doing all the day?
Speaker 3 (00:15):
Man?
Speaker 1 (00:15):
You're gonna go golfing? Or what do you do?
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Man? I'm gonna first day out of this leg, so
I'm gonna, uh they got the venues, beautiful venue. I'm
gonna just hang today at the hotel, will probably go
to the gym, get a little nice, easy, relaxing day.
Iron some clothes, iron clove it relax, man, that's kind
of my relax with thing.
Speaker 1 (00:39):
That's relax. What happened to you?
Speaker 2 (00:44):
I remember what's going on dad these days? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Oh my god, oh my god.
Speaker 2 (00:50):
It's nothing I remember either.
Speaker 1 (00:52):
Hold on, do we need to prove it's Joe?
Speaker 3 (00:54):
I was gonna say, did we.
Speaker 1 (00:55):
Screen this car? Yeah? We should? This the last time.
I just started picking up our to spotlight.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
Well, Joe, if you iron clothes to relax when you're
on tour, what do you do for fun when you're
not touring?
Speaker 1 (01:07):
He probably knits?
Speaker 3 (01:08):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (01:10):
Yeah, I uh I try to spend a little time
with the kids. That's probably why Iron during the day
out on the tour, but uh, try to spend a
little time with the kids, you know, playing catch with
them my favorite things I do throughout the week. And uh,
you know, try to catch up friends. I actually got
really into writing this year. Again, you haven't been writing
for maybe fifteen years or so. It just kind of
(01:31):
let that, you know, that part of everything die. But
my time off, man, I found a little creative bug
this year, just trying to to write some old school stuff.
Got some got really good and kind of in a
groove right now, so you know, productive time off.
Speaker 1 (01:45):
Yeah, dude, I've been writing to have been using AI.
It's awesome. It's like it's like doing everything. It's like
it reads every thought, it puts them here. It's just
so great.
Speaker 2 (01:56):
I just yeah, it's kind of going to therapy of
reading reading a book, right.
Speaker 1 (01:59):
Yeah. Yeah, that's a really good point. Hey. Wait, by
the way, why did you ever give up being a
country DJ back in the day, Why did you ever
give that money?
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Huh? Money?
Speaker 1 (02:12):
No? I think uh that was a shot. Did you
hear that? He just a shot? He said money?
Speaker 3 (02:17):
And then they had an evil laugh. Yeah, as he
talks to three people at radio.
Speaker 2 (02:22):
It was it was, it's fun I got I got
fired actually, you know, from my first gig at radio. Uh,
you know, I wasn't very good at playing with the
program director wanted me to play. I've worked for a
you know, a Today's Country brand, and I would always
straight fen the program log and play the old school
stuff and my crow program. I worked overnight, so I
did midnight at six, and uh, program director was the
(02:45):
morning show guy, and he kept following me at three o'clock,
four o'clock in the morning and cussing me out, you know,
stopped playing Merle Haggard. I haven't played that in twenty years,
you know, And so eventually he let me go one
day and then I didn't know I run it to
its the fame. Today's Hot new country station got bought
by another group and converted to classic country stations, and
(03:09):
they called me back and re hired me after that,
and that was that was that's funny. But you know,
when I moved away from there, I wanted to move
to Nashville. I just kind of, you started playing more
music in bands and stuff, so just kind of pursued
that instead.
Speaker 1 (03:23):
That's the greatest story. Gosh, that's an awesome story.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
Hey, Joe, So your song broken Heartsville post Malone called
it the greatest country song of all time.
Speaker 2 (03:33):
I know he's working on a new album.
Speaker 1 (03:35):
Has he called you yet to be on the new album?
Speaker 2 (03:37):
No, damn it, you should call him?
Speaker 3 (03:42):
No, no, no, that's true.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
Yeah, like that's how that goes. Yeah, he said that
to me. I don't know if he said that in
other places, but maybe he was just being flattering to me.
But it was great, you know, it was a great
comp man. I think Broken Hartsfield is a really good song.
But yeah, it's that's really fun working with him.
Speaker 1 (04:05):
Man.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
I can tell he loves this genre of music. I know,
I can. I can tell he loves the fans. You
know it couldn't it's.
Speaker 1 (04:13):
Some great Screw him Malone interview. This is a interview, No, y'all,
I'm catching up with one of the dudes man back
in the early two thousands. I just love your music. So,
which one of your songs, which song generates the biggest
I just I think I already know the answer. What
song of yours generates the biggest reaction?
Speaker 2 (04:32):
In the crowd Tequila.
Speaker 1 (04:34):
Yeah, yeah, I just make one.
Speaker 2 (04:39):
I gotta tell you, my my personal favorite is Broken Hartsville,
just because that was my first, you know, stamp song,
uh you know, just first signature song, and uh just
it takes me back to kind of when it started
and it gets a huge reaction. Still. I think it's
it's turned into one of those you know a little
bit of a timeless song.
Speaker 3 (04:58):
When you played tequila makes her close b off? Do
people ever start just taking their clothes off?
Speaker 2 (05:03):
Yes?
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Man, that's why that's the crowd reaction. And we were
it was suddenly referenced. What do you think they're putting
them on?
Speaker 2 (05:13):
You'd be surprised. People get a little crazy.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
Man.
Speaker 2 (05:16):
I played a bike rally one time and I thought
I thought it was in a different world play that
song and then went wow.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
So Joe Nechos is at the Ledge tonight everybody, and
he's in Mancato at the Veterstone Amphitheater tomorrow night. Now,
since you're in Minnesota here for like a two nights day,
are you going to change any of your songs to
kind of more of a Minnesota style, Like can you
like an accident? Like can you can you take yet
and turn it.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Into yeah oh yeah, oh yeah, yeah. I thought you
were gonna go like I thought you're gonna go like
Bob Dylan or something like turning. No, no, no, no, no,
I was not thinking Minnesota.
Speaker 1 (05:56):
Okay, no, Well that's nice of you to think that way,
because the person that did the movie didn't. They only
had Minnesota in there for about a half a second.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
But yeah, what's that all about.
Speaker 1 (06:04):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (06:05):
That's crazy.
Speaker 1 (06:06):
Yeah, but if you change he had, oh yeah, you
bet you, Holy shit, they would go wild. Dude, I'm
telling you seventy no, no, no, Sonny in seventy five is
Claudy in seventy five below?
Speaker 2 (06:19):
You don't think that'd be patronizing a little bit, you know,
I think people could be a little fended.
Speaker 3 (06:22):
Oh no, Minnesotans love embracing Minnesotan stereotypes.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Absolutely. No.
Speaker 2 (06:28):
I'll try it out for y'all. I'll try it outright.
Speaker 1 (06:30):
Before before we let you go. Is there a professional
baseball team that you dislike more than other professional baseball teams?
Speaker 3 (06:39):
Ooh?
Speaker 2 (06:40):
Dislike?
Speaker 1 (06:42):
Man?
Speaker 2 (06:42):
I don't know if I dislike any team. I grew
up Cardinals fan, so the Cubs, has you know, been.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
Kind of you know, yeah, come on, Yeah, that's what
I wanted right there, because I got a Diehardt. He's
from South Chicago.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
So you're you're from south side Chicago and you're a
Cubs fan. Yes, not a White Sox fan, no, oh man, okay.
Speaker 1 (07:03):
Yeah outside Yeah, it's like south south side of Chicago.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
All right. So you're you're a cardinal hater. Yes, that's
all right. You know, we get along for a great
rivalry in baseball, kind of get along better than Yankees
Red Sox. But it is a good rivalry. Man's that's
always a spicy, spicy series always.
Speaker 1 (07:22):
This is not the way this was working out in
my I I was hoping is boring there. I was
hoping we're gonna have doves and doves up there and
you could give them a little swirly or something. I
don't know. Well, Joe, hey, thank you. It's great to
catch up and really looking forward to all the fun
you're gonna have here this weekend. You get good way.
