Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to another episode of I Tell You What. They
got the dude, this guy that they're looking for all weekend,
close to close to forty eight hours they were looking
for vance Bolter, but last night looks like it came
in right around nine o'clock or so. He was arrested.
And this is the guy who's looks like he's gonna
be charged with two counts of second degree murder and
two counts of attempted second degree murder. Vance Bolter was
(00:22):
taken into custody on two hundred Street in green Isle
after a manhunt that went on for what forty three hours?
And everybody knows the news that happened, Dubbs. You and
I were fairly close to the that perimeter that they
for in Brooklyn Park over by Edinburgh and.
Speaker 2 (00:43):
Right across the street from the from the golf course.
Speaker 1 (00:46):
So they're on lockdown. Yep. Wow. And it's just I mean,
where do you go? I mean here, here we are again,
and it's we're a country music station first and foremost
and everything, and we are here for entertainment value and
mostly many times and times like this obviously get the
word out and to talk about these things, but to
offer up a distraction as well. For all the ick
(01:07):
that's in the world, there are other stations to cover
it far more intricately, I guess. But hey man, this
is right in our backyard. This is right in our hometown.
And a lot of people were scared all weekend long.
I mean, they're jumping at everything when this guy was
on the loose. But thank god that did get him.
And it's wild how it all it comes so close
to home. And here's two people I'm friends with. Two
(01:28):
of the people more of an acquaintance with the Vett
Hoffman who used to be on WLOL years ago, is
Kelly Fox and just a sweetheart of a human being,
and she was shot in her home. Her husband is
John Hoffman. I'm friends with somebody who was on what
they call the hit list. Heather Gustafson used to work
here at kaiweon O two. She's Heather Cassidy. She used
to do middays here for those number years ago, back
(01:50):
in the early two thousands. And just a couple of
great quality human beings. And just seeing the stuff on
social media and all the finger pointed in all the
politics and everything else, and man, this just really comes
down to you take politics and brush it off to
the side. I know a lot of people are They're
going to shred this and feel free because that's what
(02:11):
people do. I saw, I've seen it all over social already. Yes,
there is probably there's political motives behind things, but it's
next level. When you go to kill somebody, that is
that next level element, that is that's beyond, that's that's individual,
that's what's gone out with this dude's head.
Speaker 2 (02:29):
Yeah, it goes way far beyond anything that could ever
be considered okay anywhere. I just think that it is
a scary, scary thought when someone can be involved in politics,
can put themselves out there, can try to stand up
and represent people, and then have to fear for their life.
It's just not what it should be happening.
Speaker 1 (02:48):
Yeah, and just a typical house in a suburb, normal
old home. Yeah, one two car garage. I mean, it's
not they don't live in these ostentatious castles. They're just
their public servants.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
These are normal people. And a lot of the public servants,
I mean they do live in very very normal homes
because they don't really get paid that well usually and
so especially just at the state level. But regardless of
what they're paid, what party they represent, what they say,
what they do, petion and no, and they shouldn't have to.
You should be able to safely exercise your right to
(03:20):
be in politics, to speak your mind, freedom of your
country exactly. And so it just is such a scary,
scary thought that every elected representative and senator and everyone
this weekend has fearing for their life and now probably
will think twice when they have to stand up and
say things that a lot of people won't like. And
(03:42):
usually at least half the people listening to you don't
like what you say, and so it is just a
really really scary thought. And having spent years in news
talk radio, for me, I it's it is like scary
to put yourself out there to make statements and have
opinions on politics, because you know there are people out
there that take things too far, and that's one of
(04:05):
the really scary elements of it. And so I just
my heart goes out to these families and to everyone
that was on this hit list. What a scary, scary thing.
I just can't even wrap my head around what that
must be like. And to the Hortman family, to the
Hoffman family.
Speaker 1 (04:23):
Yeah, the Hortmans are no longer here.
Speaker 2 (04:25):
They know that is they have two kids. There's two
kids that don't have their parents anymore as of this weekend.
They weren't able to celebrate Father's Day with their dad.
Speaker 1 (04:33):
And if that went straight to her daughter Hope, I mean,
and basically enveloped her and tried to protect her from
the gunfire. Yeah, that was I was taken back by that.
Speaker 2 (04:42):
When they said that the Hoffman's were trying to shield
their daughter more than themselves.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
I was like, whoa, Yeah, it's amazing that they are
still here.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
It really is, what I mean, what a blessing that
they're still here. And I wish that the Hortmans were
still here. They should all still be here. And it's
just a really really scary thing and you never think
it's going to happen in your community and then it does.
Speaker 1 (05:06):
So I'm friends with the vet on social and she says,
John isn't during many surgeries. Right now is closer every
hour to being out of the woods. He took nine
bullet hits. I took eight, and we were both incredibly
lucky to be alive. Wow, they're just devastated. She goes
on saying, we're devastated by the loss of Melissa and
Mark and we have no words. There is never a
(05:27):
place for this kind of political hate. Thank you for
your friendship. Always, Minnesotans are at our very best when
we stand together. And she said, yeah, feel free to
share this statement that which is a public statement. It
was not directed right to me and Heather. I looked
at she and I are been friends for a long time.
She was on this hit list that was out there,
and she just says, We're incredibly grateful to the law
(05:47):
enforcement community for their dedication, protection and strength throughout this
terrifying ordeal. In particular, heartfelt thanks to go out to
Ramsay County Sheriff's Office for the care and protection they
showed our family during such an unimaginable time. Yeah, to
be living on edge like that, that is I mean,
this person again is absolutely I don't know how else
to put it. I mean, don't want to be disrespectful
(06:08):
of my wording here, but it was next level evil
and very premeditated and had that manifesto. And I mean, again,
we're a country. The juxtaposition here, in a sense, I
guess is here's we're a country. So many people are
in Washington, d C. You know, celebrating the Army's birthday,
the two hundred and fiftieth anniversary of our army and
everything else at the same time. Again, everybody saying, well,
(06:31):
you know that are not necessarily opposed to the army,
but opposed to the person running the country, and that's America. Yeah,
you know, and peacefully having our demonstrations is kind of
where it's at. But when it goes to a level
like this, it's down right diabolical. And that's to me again, Yes,
I know, politically motivated. You could say that all you want,
(06:52):
but there's something, there's something way more beyond that. When
it gets physical like this, and when the words get
that strong and lead to stif.
Speaker 2 (07:00):
This it is just evil. It's true evil.
Speaker 1 (07:02):
And and you look at social media and it just
gets worse even after something like this. It's like, calm
it down, everybody. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
I feel like at first the initial reactions on social
media people were reasonable at first from what I saw,
where people are, you know, saying, regardless of political anything,
this is terrible, but you're right, it's.
Speaker 1 (07:23):
Like, well, then the pointing fingers came out.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
Yeah, a couple a couple of days go by and
I'm like, that's just awful. No, this is a bad
person that did bad things to people who did not
deserve to be hurt.
Speaker 1 (07:34):
The uagn piece, yes, which is so wrong. I'm not
talking about just like, I'm not talking about people in
politics or people that are you know, paid to be
in politics. I'm talking to just regular people. Just it's
becomes this their promotional platform.
Speaker 2 (07:47):
Which is wrong, because it's like it's so wrong. People
lost their lives over this, good people and it just.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
Lets sit and mourn. Yes, you know.
Speaker 2 (07:58):
These are these are good people, good civil servants, and
they lost their lives for doing you know, what they
were elected to do.
Speaker 1 (08:06):
