Speaker 1 (00:00):
Straight from Pakistan to La to Boston on the line
right now. This song is such a vibe man. So
so we got the man himself. Oh deals on, Oh deal,
what up? Man?

Speaker 2 (00:08):
I'm blessed, I'm bless How you doing, man.

Speaker 3 (00:10):
I'm great man. You had a busy last couple of years.

Speaker 2 (00:13):
Bro, it has been, Actually it has been. I can't lie.

Speaker 3 (00:18):
That's a great thing. I know that's what you strive for.
But let's talk about this.

Speaker 2 (00:21):
Man.

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Dropping two projects at a time is pretty consistent.

Speaker 4 (00:24):
For you, do you know what I think. It's just
become almost a habit. I've made it a habit since
twenty seventeen to as much as I can every year
and make sure I feed my my fan base needs supporters,
you know what I mean, And like supports has been
been with me from the start. I make sure that
they get an R and B project in the winter
and in the summer, like a more experimental project in

(00:46):
the summer where it be afrofusion, afro house anything of
that's so okay.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
You know, I had to give them both. So I
feel like it's just been.

Speaker 4 (00:55):
I made a habit of it since like twenty seventeen,
you know, so so I.

Speaker 2 (00:59):
Was already fresh.

Speaker 3 (01:00):
Yeah, you're used to this, this is what you do.

Speaker 5 (01:03):
Yeah, okay, all right, Well I love the fact that
you said that because over here I did an R
and B gig right, And when I was about to
walk in to do that, they were like, all right,
we're just doing R and B tonight, no AfroB right,
And I was like, in my mind, okay, as a
as a DJ, I feel like the beats are African influence,

(01:24):
but your lyrics, like some of the some of the
you guys are saying, so it is R and B
just on Afro.

Speaker 2 (01:29):
Beats off beats, right, yeah, okay.

Speaker 3 (01:33):
So could I play afrobeats at R and B at
RMB night?

Speaker 2 (01:36):
You can? You can pay afro so and R and
B afro Okay.

Speaker 6 (01:41):
So I guess they were kind of right, like I
would love to drop so so on the R and
B night because I just feel like that has an
R and B vibe to it too, though, No.

Speaker 2 (01:53):
Like you could take the drums out all right?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
Man, All right now, bro, you you grew up everywhere man,
obviously in London right now, But musically did you get
a lot of influence from I saw you were a
little bit in Germany for a little bit.

Speaker 3 (02:09):
You moved around a lot as a kid.

Speaker 2 (02:12):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I did, literally I was.

Speaker 4 (02:15):
I grew up in Germany, moved to Spain because my
dad had a boutique there, and then from there I
moved on to I went to Nigeria for a while,
States and then went to the UK. So yeah, that's yeah,
moved the wrong quite a lot to me. Fair went
back to Nigeria for like two years while the while in.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
That boarding school, you know what I mean. So yeah,
I came back to the UK.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
So now in the UK and Canada and some of
the obviously the cultures that we hang around with, Afrobeats
has been a big part of the London culture for sure.
The reggae and the afrobeat has been a big part
of that culture for a long time. But talk about
the explosion worldwide now with the US and everybody else
coming on. How good does that feel that everybody's been
on this afrobeats wagon for the last three years now

(03:00):
four years now.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
I'm grateful.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
I feel like it's incredible that the rest of the
world that really like tapping in and that afrobeats has
gone further than Africa, you know, and it's transcended and
it now allows for other people in the diaspora to
like tap in and be able to show what their
take is on it, you know what I mean. It's incredible,
and it's also allowed me to be able to find

(03:24):
my place within it. You know, because afrobeats before it
actually went worldwide, was it sounded a certain way. And
then when it actually went global, you're now starting to
see these fusions and these different sounds, and it's now
allowing other people, like again, as I said, people of
the diaspea to find their place, you know, on their
feet within the genre.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
You know. So I'm grateful.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Does anything negative come out of musically from that side
because we all all I hear is all the good vibes,
the positive vibes, and instantly when that beat kicks in,
you just want to move.

Speaker 3 (03:57):
Do you Is there like trap out there? Is there
like do they get really like street out there when
it comes to music or No. Everybody's just always in
a good place.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Everyone's in a good place.

Speaker 4 (04:07):
I feel like, as long as it's good music and
you're moving, you're moving the sound forward and you're staying authentic. YEP,
it's all good. Things, you know what I mean. And
one thing I really love about the African communities. They
really champion each other, you know, ye, and everyone knows
what's up, and everyone really you know, if you're doing
what you're if you're doing the right thing, you know

(04:29):
what I mean, And you're really moving this sound forward.
There's some people are gonna praise you for it.

Speaker 1 (04:34):
I mean no, I definitely do. Like I said, it's
just always a feel good vibe. And then your R
and B, the R and B Project you. I love
this one record you have on their show Biz is
that's my ish man. I love that record on there.

Speaker 2 (04:46):
Thank you.

Speaker 3 (04:47):
There's a couple of bars.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
I know we all take music our own way, but
you said pockets full but got a hole in it?
It gets dark when your soul's in it. Like that
hits home so hard for me because when you go
after your passion for me, when I heard that, you
lose a lot of your friends that don't understand the
same vision or why you're going so hard for to
make something happen that you believe in exactly.

Speaker 2 (05:08):
Yeah, that's that's really yeah.

Speaker 4 (05:09):
Yeah, it gets dark with your souls in it, Like
if when you're that invested in it. You can see
how you know, when you get lost in something, you
know almost like let's say if as myself as an artist,
I used to literally record until I look outside and
it's dark. Now do you know what I mean? It's
like the same thing where it's like you lose every
like you use a lot of people around you. People

(05:30):
don't understand things change, like the industry becomes its own thing.
The business becomes its own thing. But it's like you're
so invested in this thing called music that you in
order to just get that to chase that feeling. When
you're chasing that feeling, a lot a lot of things
come with it, you know what I mean. You lose
a lot in order to just get to you know,
certain certain places and just you know what I mean.

(05:52):
It's interesting, it's interesting, but yeah, and holding your pockets
as well. It's just like, yeah, it's like you make
money and at the end of the day, like where
does it go?

Speaker 2 (06:03):
You know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
It's like people around you and everyone else around you.
As you're moving up in this industry, it's like you
spend more and it's like, yo, where is it going?
A lot of it goes to kind of like you
almost feel like you owe the people around you, right, you.

Speaker 2 (06:19):
Know what I mean.

Speaker 4 (06:20):
It's a lot of artists have spoken about it, you
know what I mean about like getting it for us,
bagging and where did they go to and all that stuff.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
It's just yeah, just highlighting that kind of stuff. You know.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
No, I love it, man, And you said a lot
in that that whole bar right there. They call it
show business. Everybody's got no business in a crowd. You
feel alone business you're a star that comes with it.
You just don't lose your soul. Just don't lose your
soul in it. So many lines in that. So, what's
an advice now that you've been doing it for a
while and getting this new success. If you were able
to go back to Odell from twenty fourteen twenty fifteen,
what are you telling Odell?

Speaker 4 (06:49):
I'm definitely telling them, just stay true to yourself. Everything's
going to be okay.

Speaker 2 (06:54):
Number one.

Speaker 4 (06:56):
It's like whatever habits you had before fame or for
anything to only get bigger when once everything comes. So
it's like the main thing is just to focus on yourself,
focused on making sure that your that your morals are
in check. Make sure that your mentals in check, because
when everything else comes is it's literally the old and

(07:18):
old ads are on. You're in the snow. We'll go
over more. You know, space for error, do you know
what I mean? Which can come if you're not really
doing the work on yourself.

Speaker 2 (07:26):
You know.

Speaker 1 (07:26):
I love it, man, Odeal's on right now obviously, so
so is the record that's exploding again. You all your
records really just take off, man, But this is the
one that we've been playing here. So while I got
you on, before we get into that song, go to
introduce it for everybody, and we'll come back with tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Deal you all my people? Is odell? All right? Now
you're listening to so so DJ popular, So.

Speaker 1 (08:06):
There is so so right there. Bro, since I got
you on, you got to teach us what are you
saying here? Skid o?

Speaker 3 (08:11):
Why money?

Speaker 2 (08:12):
Mo wa?

Speaker 3 (08:13):
What does that mean? And how do we how do
we say that over here?

Speaker 5 (08:16):
Let's let's know, I'm a DJ, I'm not an artist, bro.

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Don't worry about just vibe. This is cool like crazy.

Speaker 3 (08:29):
Man anything, It's just is there a meaning behind it?

Speaker 4 (08:35):
No? No, I think that the whole essence of the
whole song is just like a whole like it's a
whole vibe and the chorus, you know, gotta god, that's
what it is.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
In the choruses. This is melodies, you know. So yeah,
that's that.

Speaker 3 (08:49):
I love.

Speaker 5 (08:49):
Man.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
You got a lot of a dope records, man, I get.
I got lost in it, man. Sunday at Zuri's is
out right now if you want that. Afrobb Vibes. The
R and B and Soul Project is out too, Man,
I definitely go check that out. And I heard you're
gonna be starting to make your way out to the
US too. We're gonna be doing some shows out here
hopefully soon too.

Speaker 2 (09:05):
One hundred percent. Yep, coming soon.

Speaker 3 (09:09):
And then we got to do this in the studio.

Speaker 2 (09:11):
One hundred percent. Man. I'd love to them all.

Speaker 1 (09:13):
Right, perfect, man, guy, thank you so much for checking in.
I know you're moving around out there, but I appreciate
you taking the time and jumping on there with me.

Speaker 2 (09:18):
Thank you so much. Man. I have a great day.
