Speaker 1 (00:00):
I'm Jeff Stevens. Thanks for listening to my eighties show podcast.
I have two guests for the price of one this time.
I am talking to Damon Elliott, amazing producer and the
son of Miss Dion Warwick, and fab more Van aka
Millie of Millie for Millie. I've got them both on here.

Speaker 2 (00:17):
Hi, guys, how are you hey?

Speaker 3 (00:22):
Nice to go, Nice to talk to you guys.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
All right, Damon, I got to ask how proud were
you of your mom last weekend?

Speaker 4 (00:28):
Man, words can't even express My cheeks are still hurting
from smiling so huge from.

Speaker 1 (00:36):
Yeah, that's so great. Did you get to attend the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Speaker 4 (00:39):
I did, Man, I actually just got back from Cleveland.
We got back yesterday and it was it was wonderful.
The weather was great, which was nice. Also, yeah, it
was raining and we had to blame that on the rain.

Speaker 1 (00:52):
Right, well done, well done, un intended.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Well, I just wanted to start by saying that your
mom is an absolute treasure and uh I got to
actually speak to both of you a couple of years
ago at the same time, which was which was so cool.
But yeah, your mom's a legend. And so cool to
see her get the recognition last weekend.

Speaker 4 (01:14):
Indeed, thank you, I'll pass that forward.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Awesome and fab so nice to meet.

Speaker 2 (01:18):
You, Pleasure, Pleasure, Chip, there's I will tell.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
You there's a picture of you and me laying around
from about nineteen ninety two that I won't I won't
show you now.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
Yeah, but we've got to help.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
Where were we?

Speaker 3 (01:34):
I think where were we?

Speaker 1 (01:35):
I think we were in San Francisco, like the Gavin
Music Convention or something. If I'm not mistaken, that's where
it was.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
But uh wow, the convention. Yeah remember that? Yees, yeah,
that was a minute for sure. Yes, well it's been
a minute. Yeah. Well I'm still here. You know.

Speaker 5 (01:51):
I'm the father of four now and been performing for
years in Europe. I'm located in Europe and been performing
those songs. At first, I was not getting that many shows,
but then through the years it added up and added up,
and then started performing with the band. And this is
where I'm at right now. And the documentary came out
in twenty twenty three, the movie The Living in League GIRNALLYS.

(02:12):
Throe movie came out in twenty four this year, and
then Monsters came around So this whole resurgence of the
songs is amazing because now you've got my god daughter
in La telling me that.

Speaker 2 (02:24):
Kids are singing blaming on the ring. You know.

Speaker 5 (02:26):
But Demon, we worked on it, like seven months ago.
You talked to me like, Yo, I'm doing I want
to do this one can I have the blessings?

Speaker 2 (02:33):
I was like, yo, of course, man, you got my blessings.

Speaker 5 (02:35):
And then someone everything escalated. So you know, the word
that comes to mind is serendipitous.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
Yeah, that's how it comes, you know.

Speaker 5 (02:44):
So we're just riding the wave and just having some
fun and you know, like them, you know, a few
days ago, Mom is like, you know, inducted, and it's
nothing but good things happening, good vibe that we're riding
that wave right now.

Speaker 2 (02:57):
Yeh what I'm doing?

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, that's seems to be the case. And so so damon,
what made you go, Okay, you know what, I want
to put my own twist on this. I want to
put my own I want to put my own touch
on this. You've worked with so many people and obviously
the you know, blame it on the rain has you know,
as Fab was just saying, the monsters, the lion Lyle
and Eric Menendez story, that song is brought back to

(03:20):
life now and what what what put it in front
of you?

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Well, put it in front of Diane Warren. First of all. Yeah,
I worked with her and we're doing a tribute album.
We're doing a tribute album to Diane and the reggae,
the Island reggae genre, which I've had a lot of
success as nomad, you know. And so I went to
Diane and I said, you know, hey, I want to
cover you know, blame It on the Rain for my
contribution to this to this album, and and she said,

(03:44):
go for it. So I did, and that's what I
called fab. I was like, hey, man, you know I
want to cover Blame It on the Rain. Bro.

Speaker 3 (03:50):
You cool with that?

Speaker 4 (03:51):
And he's like, man, go get him. And that's literally
how it happened. And like he said, you know, this
was seven seven, eight months ago, you know when we
did it, and we obviously were timing the single to
come out around this time, but had no clue that
there would be this monster resurgence of the original song.
You know, it had no clue, just like and now

(04:13):
it's just like, you know, for for the genre that
I represent, which is the Island reggae market. It's blowing
up many another version and having you know, it's kind
of got to say this, having the blessing of both
Diane and Fab, the support of Fab, you know, he's
super busy obviously with you know what he's working on,
you know, with his music and then the other version

(04:35):
that the original blowing up and I'm sure his phone
just ringing off the hook.

Speaker 2 (04:38):
But having the support and the love.

Speaker 4 (04:41):
Man, it's just it's just I can't express at this
point in my life and career. You know, it's just
amazing because it's it's we're doing it for the Polynesian
culture and the islands and and it's great.

Speaker 1 (04:52):
Well, damon, I mean, your your list is is an
a list. It's Christina Aguilera and Jessica Simpson, and it's
Brittany and Macy and and now and now it's Fab
and a fab that made you feel good too, that
that's somebody that's got so many skills wanted to connect
with you.

Speaker 5 (05:10):
But dude, it's but you know, Jeff, Jeff, Jeff, Yeah,
take us out. You know we Dinmon and I were
connected back in the day. Oh yeah, in Beverly Hills.

Speaker 2 (05:18):
Oh yeah, yeo, we go way back. That's cool.

Speaker 5 (05:23):
Yeah, we used to hang out in the clubs in
Beverly Hills Centrick Club one, you know.

Speaker 2 (05:28):
Over you it's so rocks.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
Very yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:31):
Now we're back. Three years later we joined forces and music.

Speaker 5 (05:35):
You know, music is the glue, music is killing, Music
is powerful, and it has a way to bring people together.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
And that's what he is for us.

Speaker 1 (05:42):
Absolutely, that's very well put and fab First of all,
is it knocking your socks off that it's been thirty
five years that all these songs were just I mean
number one song after number one song after number one song?

Speaker 5 (05:54):
It's insane because you know, I'm on stage every weekend, right,
and I performed those songs and people still react the
same way. And for me, it's like feels like time
machine because I'm like, okay, where I'm at.

Speaker 2 (06:04):
Is that eighty nine or is it twenty twenty four?

Speaker 3 (06:07):
Right?

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Because the music, you know, I'm always stepping into that
time machine. Yeah, every time I get on stage, and
then I can still perform, you know, physically I'm fit.

Speaker 2 (06:16):
You know, I don't feel the difference. Not now. I'm
still good. Yeah, you know, so.

Speaker 5 (06:20):
People will experience that part of me, and I can't
wait to just you know, continue this journey down this path.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Damian and I are going to join forces. I have
joined forces, but we're going to go.

Speaker 5 (06:30):
A little deeper in our relationship now because you know
it is it is that the energy is pulling us together.

Speaker 2 (06:35):
So we can't say no to that energy. Right, You're
going to keep going.

Speaker 3 (06:38):
That is great to hear.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
And I hope I know you said you're doing a
lot of stuff overseas. I hope it's something you bring
to the US because obviously you know, obviously things you
know ended not so well, you know in the Milli
Vanilli story, but you know your music lives on and
things are so great for you now and especially connecting
with Damon and the resurgence of your songs. We would
love to say in the US we'd love a tour.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Oh I will.

Speaker 5 (07:02):
I will for sure, But when I come, it's gonna
be what is gonna be fired when I come.

Speaker 2 (07:07):
I know that the United States. I know how you
guys play Yes.

Speaker 5 (07:11):
I live there for question time and you know I
can only come correct yes, and that's going to be
with a full on stage. You know, it's got to
be to be right, you know. So I'm a patient
man and have been a patient man, and and you
have to stay, come collect it and only come with quality.
That's very important. Yes, quality is number one for me.
So I will be there. I will be there.

Speaker 1 (07:34):
You heard it well. Congratulations, Fab and Damon. Thank you
guys so much for sharing some time with me. And
we are just going to continue, uh playing those great
songs on the radio, and we look forward to when
you are bringing it here and we get to see
it live. And in the meantime, uh, you know, I
just hope folks stream the heck out of the new
the new version of Blame It.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
On the rain.

Speaker 2 (07:55):
Do that. Let's do it all right.

Speaker 3 (07:57):
Thank you guys, great to talk to you.

Speaker 2 (07:59):
A nice so
