(00:21):
at Bell Grove knows how much funit is. An incredible afternoon of fun
with your friends. But you know, there are a lot of folks who
are new to Shenandoah Country, eitherthey've just moved in or their new listeners
have never been before. Can youtell us a little bit about it,
what it's like, and then we'lltalk about what's new this year? Sure.
So. Bell Grove is a historicsite in Middletown, Virginia, just

we have a huge property, beautifulview the mass Nut Mountain historic home that

to keep the doors open the lightson, but why not have a lot
of fun at the same time.So this is one of our most important

fundraisers of the year and we reallyuse it to highlight local businesses and agriculture.

a fun fundraiser. So wine Festhas been going on for years. This
one again just to remind every one, Saturday, August twenty six, from
eleven till six. What is newthis year? Yeah, so we have
(01:23):
a lot of great things to taste. It's great to go out to a
winery in a weekend, but maybeyou want to just get a handle on
who you like and who you mightwant to spend more time with. We've
got eight great wineries from around theregion this year. A new thing is
we have actually three providers of mead, which is honey wine, and so
new folks to the area that havenever been to our event before got Ciderizo

here just be you know, servingsome beer. You want to give a
taste They've got really interesting stuff ontap, always something creative, So if
you've got a beard drinker in yourgroup, they'll like it. And then
Copper Fox Distillery and Sperryville, whomakes Bell Grove seventeen ninety seven whiskey,
will also be there. I lovethis because you know how it is,
(02:08):
you got a group of people youwant to go, Well, Tammy doesn't
drink wine or whatever it is,right, so I can't imagine there's a
Tammy who doesn't drink wine, butthere might be. And so you've got
all the other things there. Soreally, no matter what it is you
like to enjoy, it's going tobe there at Bell Grove Winefest. So

we've got some great food trucks comingto and I love that. This is
Bellgrove Winefest, Saturday, August twentysix, starts at eleven am, goes

(03:36):
another fun thing going on during thewinefest. We also do chef demonstrations and
this year we're making a special emphasison historic recipes and food ways. And
this is part of a new eventthat they're having in Winchester, Frederick County
and Clark County called Hungry for History. It starts on August twenty six and
it goes through September fourth, Andwe've got a whole bunch of different oral
(04:00):
organizations, breweries, restaurants, allwith this focus on culinary history. So
our four chef demonstrations in the afternoonat Wine Festival all feature historic food.
Well, when you see historic food, like where in history are we talking?
Well, Bell Grove. We haveinformation from the Hype family about a
cookbook that they had, So wehave a wonderful volunteer who takes those recipes
(04:23):
brings them up to modern day andshe'll talk about that process. So we've
got a rice batter bread that she'sgoing to be producing. We've got someone
from the Wayside coming over and they'regoing to talk about what they do at
the Wayside in and how they tieinto history. And they're going to make
a Thomas Jefferson's bread pudding. Yeah, Chef Rachel Wood going to make a
classic recipe from an amazing African Americanchef Abbey Fisher. It's an eighteen eighty
(04:47):
one chicken gumbo. And then ChefBill Anderson from the Chef's Corner is going
to make he calls it Shendo achicken salad, and he's going to talk
about how in the eighteen hundreds thiswould have been how you would make food
like that, what would have beenavailable to you then, So step back
in history, we're in about food. That sounds really cool. I don't
think I've seen that anywhere before,and I really that's a very exciting.
