Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to community viewpoints to Shawnee. Feeling blessed and highly favored.
On this Sunday morning, I am talking to a mother.
We are celebrating Women History Month, but I'm bringing a
hot topic because it's spring break, wanting everybody to just
be aware. So today I have Leatricia Taylor. She is

(00:20):
here from the Chassity Taylor Foundation. Latricia, how are you?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
I'm fine? How are you doing today?

Speaker 1 (00:26):
Blessed that I am able to talk to you. We
started this conversation about ten years ago and I thought
to check in. So if you would just tell us
a little something about Latricia Taylor and we'll get to
why you created the Chastity Taylor Foundation.

Speaker 3 (00:44):
I am Leatricia Taylor. Of course, I'm originally from Syracuse,
New York. I'm currently residing, of course, in Jacksonvithe, Florida.
I've been here over twenty years. I am a mother
of three, I have four grandchildren, and I am I
work for healthcare full time, but I'm also a real

(01:06):
estate agent. I'm an author, and of course I run
the Chassa. Taylor found Station, And of course I'm a
business owner as well. Have a food tante food shot
so I am a busy woman, and you have.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Become very busy since the last time I spoke with
you or several ten years ago. Community Shawnee speaking to
Latricia Taylor. She's here to deliver a message. But the
message I wanted everyone to be aware. While we are
celebrating the women Women in History month, we have to
be aware of certain things that make us as women.

Speaker 3 (01:41):
Stronger. Yes, yes, yes, yes, As you said ten years ago,
all the things I do now, I was not doing then.
I was just a regular mother, had one grandchild at
the time. I worked, always participated, volunteer in the community.
But I was hit with a tragic accent when I
lost my daughter November two thousand and fourteen to a

(02:05):
Duigwi car accident. From there, that propelled me to do something,
which is how I started a foundation, because I wanted
to turn my pain into purpose and through that, everything
I do is somehow related to helping, giving back, encouraging, inspiring.
It's my grief process. The more I'm able to do

(02:26):
something that's going to honor her, the better I feel.
I could be somewhere curled up in a corner for
all these years, but I knew that's not what she wanted,
and God just pushed me through it. I have times,
Don't get me wrong, anyone would have that. I have
my moments. But I have a purpose in life. And
although that's a tragic thing that happened to me, God

(02:48):
gave me a bigger purpose out of the outcome of that,
and I'm just trying to do my best to fulfill
that and give back and encourage and aspire others through
the things that I do.

Speaker 1 (03:00):
D Shawnee speaking to Leatricia Taylor talking to us about
d UI d w I and why she created the
Chastity Taylor Foundation. Now, I know I missed in August.
You had the annual give back Day. Talk to us
about that and then we'll talk about how busy you
are in the community.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
Yes, the annual give back Day is always held in August.
Her birthdays in August, so we was holding it back
to the school event and we were able to service
providing backpacks filled with school supplies, music, food, non parents
with food to families. We've given away bicycles, we've given

(03:41):
away laptops, We've done just all types and that's free,
open to the public, and that was our way to
get back to the community and support families of underserved
children in the community. This year we're going to do
with something a little different, but we will always do
something that's going to honor helping families or some type
of time to helping children.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Brindy Shawnee speaking to Latricia Taylor here from the Chasity
Taylor Foundation, driving the cause to be aware. It is
spring break. We know our children and everyone else is
out and about DUI DWI very important at this point
in life in our community. I know that this pain

(04:24):
you've turned into a purpose and you've been with us
this foundation for almost what ten years now, but you
give back so much to the community. Talk to us
about being a part of the sixth annual Stand Up
and Strive Domestic Violence Awareness Walk that will be happening
at the end.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Of the month. Yes, we like to give back as well,
not only just to the children, to other nonprofits. So
we are creating a team trying to raise money. If
you're out there and you want to walk to support
this great cause with the Hover House, join our team,
donate to our team. But we feel the need to
give back and help out and support other organizations that
have good causes because the mess of violence is.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
A huge thing.

Speaker 3 (05:03):
It's support of women and that's what we're about, so
we get back to them. We've given back to Ronal
McDonald's house. So we just try to support other nonprofits
through whatever endeavors that we can as.

Speaker 1 (05:13):
Well empowering women Women History Month. Johnny's speaking to Letricia Taylor.
She's here to help us understand how to maneuver through
life when God places something that is devastating in our way.
Losing a child is very hard. How have you with

(05:34):
all the things that you're doing, how have you overcome?
And what does mental health mean to you?

Speaker 3 (05:42):
Mental health means a lot to me. Prior to this accent,
I did not think going to a therapist would be beneficial.
But I am a very much an advocate of going
to a therapist, talking to someone, someone that helped guide you,
give you tools to help keep your men to health
at peace. I do have a lot of tools in

(06:05):
my toolkit. I think it's very important for people to
understand that if your mental health is not well, your
body is not well, you can make yourself sick. So
it's very important to have some times zen time, downtime,
peace time, and if you out there and you feel
like you're overwhelmed, your stress, whatever you've gone through, just

(06:25):
seek someone to talk to you. It is amazing to
be able to talk to professionals that can help support
you and provide you with the tools you need to
create a task or I guess a tool or for
you to be able to have your great mental health.
I guess that's what I'm going to say, because I

(06:45):
know with my tools, I was able to even like now,
when I'm going through things or things that trigger me,
I'm able to recognize them pull out my tools to
help me get through that so that I don't have
as many meltdowns as I used to have. I can function,
can be a supportive a wife, I can be a grandmother,
I can be a mother to my other children because

(07:08):
I can control my mental health meanly.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
Shawnee speaking to Latricia Taylor from the Chasity Taylor Foundation,
building awareness on DUI d WI. You said something that
we need to talk about it. We need to express
ourselves or find someone that we are comfortable with to
talk about it. So you are doing great things with
this Chassity Taylor Foundation. You have upcoming soon the fifth

(07:34):
annual CTF team talk talk to us about that. Why
did you create that?

Speaker 3 (07:40):
I created that because I felt that we needed to
give our children an outlet. It's tied to mental health.
There's so much happening in the schools that the teachers
and you know, they're not able to do everything, and
we don't know what households are and parents can even
sometimes recognize it's not their fault. Just sometimes kids just
need outlet outside of their parents. So we created to

(08:00):
give them a way to talk about the issues that
they may be dealing with in school that they're unable
to talk to talk to their parents about anyone, so bullying,
relationship issues, life skills. Teach them life skills, talk to
them about career choices that maybe not going to college
is not an option, so they want to do other
task things they can do in careers they can go

(08:21):
on that doesn't require college, that can make them good income.
So I just wanted to pour back into our children
because our youth is our next leaders in our community,
in the world. So pouring into them helps create our
great leaders that is our future.

Speaker 1 (08:38):
Letricia, I know that the last ten years we both
have lost someone in our family and we keep going
right as women Women History Month highlighting, I wanted to
bring you in just to say I am proud of
you because you did not stop. I remember the first
first interview, So thank you so much for not stop

(09:00):
and showing the community that you are thriving and surviving.
You have many arms, to your business, to your person
right now, so I know that you have a word
for anyone that has received a blow like that to
your heart, to your person, to your household. What is
a verse that you used to keep going? What's in

(09:21):
that toolboxy? Well?

Speaker 3 (09:23):
First, I want to say thank you for recognizing everything
I've done, because when I came to you the first time,
I barely could speak, but I did it and you
made me feel comfortable. But I will tell people the
verse I've have. I actually been using it since my
daughter passed. Is I walk by faith. I walk by
faith and not by sight. I don't know what my
day to day. I didn't know what my day day

(09:44):
was going to be and what it was going to
look like. But I walk by faith and I just
use that every day. So if you just walk by faith,
understand that you're meant to be here despite what you're
going through You're meant to be everything that you think
you should be, and just keep walking by faith. It
will help.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Thank you so much. Letricia Taylor here from the Chasity
Taylor Foundation. We're going to get some information from you
so that they can see what's going on with your
organization or the foundation. I could place that on our
community calendar page such so that if people want to
pour into you or just get connected. I know that
you're always looking for volunteers when you do your and
you'll give back day share your information so people can

(10:25):
connect with you, and then I'll put the information you
give me on our website.

Speaker 3 (10:30):
Yes, you can follow us on Facebook. That's the best way.
It has everything that we're doing, our calendars, our flyers,
all the information. It's the Chassity Taylor Foundation on Facebook.
Follow us on Instagram. It's at Chassi Taylor Foundation. Even
one of those sites, you will find out everything that
we have going on, what we're doing. There's a link
to figure out how to get in touch with us,

(10:51):
reach out to us. We love to have volunteers at
our events. It means a lot to us and get
connected and stay connected with us. We have a lot that's.

Speaker 1 (10:59):
Going on, Litricia, stay empowered. Thank you so much for
your time today, thank you for your drive, and thank
you for those words of wisdom. We always got to
walk in faith, so thank you.

Speaker 3 (11:10):
Thank you so much again for having me. Thank you
for recognizing me. I've been doing this, like you said,
for ten years, and sometimes we're doing it small with
our head down, but it's nice to know that people
are paying attention to what we're doing and recognizing it.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
Thank you for your vision.

Speaker 3 (11:27):
I stay pretty busy, but you know, my baby is
always the foundation. I'm always gonna put that first. But
the drive and what I do, it keeps me going.
It keeps me from sitting idle, keeps me from, you know,
having certain thoughts that you don't want to have. So
the more I'm busy, the better it is. But there's
something good that comes out of it. So I'm happy.

Speaker 1 (11:47):
Welcome back to Community Viewpoints and Shawnee feeling blessed and
highly favored. On this Sunday Warning, we are lifting every
voice in our community and around the globe. Today, I
have community advocate. Her name is Sylvia Nixon. She's a mom,
a friend, and a spiritual leader in our community. Good morning, Sylvia.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Good morning, Good morning to everyone you know.

Speaker 1 (12:14):
It's Sylvia. I wanted to talk to you because you
have been growing on social media, growing in our eyes,
and you have a growing daughter. So we're in History Month.
I wanted to highlight you because you also advocate for
so many things in our community. So I wanted to
just touch base with you. Tell us a little something

(12:34):
about Sylvia Nixon.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Well, yes, my name is Sylvia Nixon. I am a
good forty six years old and I am a business
owner of course, a mom, a wife of almost twenty years.
I have a heart for people as a whole. I

(13:01):
love community and I love to encourage women, and so
that that just about sums up my entire life. That
is Sylvia Nixon, community, encouragement and just people.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
I love people, Sylvia, Women History Month. There are women
all around the globe, women in our community, but you
are one of those women who you know, you shine
a light, you speak the word, and you are a mom.
I know you have a beautiful daughter. Talk to us
about your daughter and being a mom.

Speaker 2 (13:39):
Andrew and I and my husband, we are blessed to
have one child and her name is Chloe. She's sixteen
years old. And she's a dancer. She wants to grow
in the dancing field, and we support her one hundred

(14:00):
percent as a as a mother, she has taught me
a lot, you know, personally and relationally and spiritually. Chloe
has taught me a lot. And I can I can
say this. Being a mom has stretched me as a woman.
But I had to come to the realization to understand

(14:23):
those seasons of stretching as a woman and as a mom.
I think there's two levels, right, And you stretch as
a woman and and you're mature as a woman as
you are raising your child, and you stretch as a mother.
You know what I mean, like, what's best for my child?

(14:47):
How do I uh serve her in the season that
she is in? And because our children go through seasons,
and so you know a lot of times as moms,
we can treat the last season like the season that
we're in right now, so we'll miss that moment with
our children. And so this is why I say Chloe

(15:08):
has stretched me tremendously to keep my face before God
because I meet His wisdom in order to help raise
her community.

Speaker 1 (15:21):
Shawnee speaking to a community advocate, Sylvia Nixon. She's here
to talk to us about herself being an advocate. I
am highlighting her as this is Women's History Month and
as she said, as a mom, children stretch us. Sylvia.
I saw that you wrote on a Facebook that how

(15:42):
do you handle when you know they keep growing and
they keep getting prettier and you're like.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Ohmge what is happening? Yes?

Speaker 1 (15:52):
And their baby girls? Right, So talk to us about
that emotion and how you are dealing with that. Being
a mom with a daughter who is a flower that
is blooming.

Speaker 2 (16:06):
I tell you that's beautiful, Shawnie.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
You know I always say who is supporting me in this?
You know, in this effort of raising this this girl?
You know what I mean? Like she is a flower,
she is blooming. But I know as moms we need
we need to support each other, and you know, we
need to support group. We need to hold each other's hand,

(16:31):
encourage each other, lift us up. I mean, because it
can be you know, not just challenging, but it is
also rewarding to and to see her blossom and to
a young lady is mind blowing to me. You know.

(16:52):
I remember when Chloe went to high school, how it's like, oh, okay,
let school. I can't believe that she's in high school
and now I'm thinking this term next year she's going
to be going into our senior year of high school.
What has happened with time, you know what I mean?
And what's gonna be next for her? So it's definitely

(17:15):
a journey that I love. I support her one hundred percent,
and you know it's I I really think that this
journey has fostered some good communication with her to see
where her head is and to also see how I
can support her for her next phase of life.

Speaker 1 (17:38):
Mindy Shawnie is speaking to Sylvia nixton a mom Women
in History Month. We highlight the strong moms out there
who are juggling life, being a wife, being an entrepreneur,
and also being there for our children. Sylvia, I see
that you are there for your daughter. She has grown
into a beautiful young life. I also see that you

(18:02):
do work in the community. I saw you doing some
work with the shawls Bocker Center. Talk to us about
advocating in the community and what you're doing.

Speaker 2 (18:12):
Prior to the pandemic. Where we started off going to
the Salzbalker downtown, they didn't even have the Salzbocker Village
in that area at all, it was just only the
Salsboker downtown. So when the we would go every other
month and serve the community there, it was men and women,

(18:35):
and so Andrew would serve the men's side and I
would serve the women's side. And once the pandemic happened
in twenty twenty, we couldn't go anymore, and so it
did not leave the heart this time of serving and
giving to the community there the sus Bocker Center, and

(18:59):
so you know, we started back up last year serving
their community. And you know, as as they transition into
new seasons and learn, you know, what's next for them
in their life. It is a blessing just to go
there and encourage them, because that's what we do. We go,

(19:21):
we eat together, and we encourage them that this season
that they're in is only temporary, It is not forever,
and you know, just to encourage them that there is
hope in this next season and to trust God right

(19:41):
as God is just going to bring them out of
season that they're in into the next season. And not
only is their hope, there is life for them and
letting them know like this season is only temporary. So
it is a lot of encouragement during that time. It's
a lot of connection theme and I love to connect

(20:02):
that one on one. Everybody has a story and we
don't know what people are dealing with because you know,
we live in such a fast taste world. We just
walk past each other so quickly, but we have to
slow down. And being able to serve the Salzbocker community

(20:23):
allows me to slow down and to hear and to
see and to see how I can serve them better.
And also more people in the community.

Speaker 1 (20:36):
Highlighting women doing the work in the community for Women
History Months. Johnny speaking to Sylvia Nixon. Now, Sylvia, how
can the community get involved? I know that sometimes you
need donations for toilet trees or just things that will
help those individuals transitioning. How can the community rally behind

(20:57):
you and assist?

Speaker 2 (20:59):
Thank you so much so. I can be found on
all social media streams uh TikTok, uh, Facebook and Instagram
under Sylvia Nixon, and my website is Fierce f I
E R C E the letter N and then Strong

(21:19):
s t R O n G dot com. So if
anyone would like to donate, they can just go right
to Fierce and Strong dot com and connect with me
there uh, we always uh take toiletry items. We like
to take full size items. And I mean it's anything

(21:39):
from toiletry items to close to bodycare. You know, bodycare,
body sprays, towels, washclaw, socks, and underwear, toothbrush, tootha We
need all of that. And so we set up every
time we go to the Sauce Boxer, which is every

(22:02):
other month, we set up a giving room. So after
our time of eating and encouragement, we let them come
into the giving room and they get whatever they need.
And I tell you, it is you know for people
that will never come that just give from all over

(22:24):
the world. You know, they'll never know how deep it
touches them that somebody thought about them. You know, just
last week when we went, one lady, she came back
in the room and she was like, I just cannot
believe that all of this was for me. I told her,

(22:44):
I said this, you deserve this and more. Just believe
God for your next And you know, just I'm so
thankful for the community. Thank you for our friends and
our families all over the world that give, that donate
and they're just open to just be the hands extended

(23:06):
to love on those that they'll probably.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
Never see community, just sharing the strength and guidance that's
in the community through our women that are paving the
way for the next person. Sylvia, you are a light
with this conversation, but I also get LFE from you
in the morning through COVID, through life. You have a

(23:31):
word every morning on Facebook, and I wanted to thank
you for that because I often need that. And so yeah,
I really know that you are embedded in the Word
and in God. Tell us a phrase or something that
keeps you grounded to keep.

Speaker 2 (23:49):
Giving Seannie in this season, I think the strong word
for all women, not just me, is for us to
know our purpose. And I know that people talk about
knowing you know, knowing your purpose and how important it
is all the time. But when you know your purpose,

(24:11):
you can truly live. And that is my heart, is
that the life that I've been given, that I can
live my life on purpose, which you know allows me
to serve the community. And and know, you know, even
with my devotional books and stuff things of that nature,

(24:32):
you know, I know exactly what I'm called to do.
I know my purpose. I know what's what God wants
for me in the area of helping others. And so
that I can serve better.

Speaker 3 (24:46):
And so.

Speaker 2 (24:48):
You know, I just I just say to the women,
know your purpose, seek wisdom for your purpose, so you
can live. So many people Shawnee are is just existing.
They're waking up doing the day to day things and
not really living with purpose and on purpose. And so

(25:10):
that's something that I encourage women all the time. Let's
not waste time. We don't have time to waste. And
so with the life that you've been given, what is
it that you are called to do? Right, and let's
not procrastinate in that. Know what you were created to do.
Do that and be intentional in it. Don't delay, don't procrastinate,

(25:35):
and know that you are worthy to receive all things
in life and more. I think about Ephesians three and twenty.
You know, the Lord is ready to give us exceeding
abundantly above all that we could ever ask, think or imagine.

(25:57):
And I mean you think about it like I'm going
to get more than what I think about. Yes, He's
ready to give that to us, but we have to
position ourselves in order to receive it. How do I
position myself in order to receive it? I know my worth, right,
I know my purpose, and I walk in that by faith,

(26:20):
right in faith, through faith, and I can receive all
things that are due to me. Now, let me just
say this, that does not exempt us from going through
trials and circumstances. But I tell you this, you are
not your trial. You are not the circumstance. It's something

(26:43):
that will stretch you. It's something that you can learn
from so you can move forward and continue to serve
as God has purposed in your heart. And so that
is definitely the word that I will share with the
women out there. Come on, seek knowledge in the purpose

(27:03):
that has already been given to you, as God has
created you in His image and his blackness.

Speaker 1 (27:10):
Lifting every voice in the community. Shaannnie speaking to Sylvia Nixon. Sylvia,

History Month. Please share your website one more time so
that we can help you as you move forward and

Thank you so much. The website is www dot fearce
s I e r ce the letter in and then
strong s t r o n G dot com, fiercenstrong
dot com because we are fierce and we are strong
as women.

Speaker 1 (27:47):
Thank you so much for your delivery Thank you Sylvia
for empowering us. Thank you for being a light in
our community and not thinking it robbery to help the
underserved or the people that are transitioning to another season.
